Carol L. (Wittman) Gregg – age 73, died Sunday, February 23, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born July 17, 1946, in Hays, Kansas to Vernon M. and Armella 
M. (Herl) Wittman.&nbsp; She married Eldon Gregg on May 21, 1966, in Hays, 
Kansas.

She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Hays for 24 and ½
 years, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Glassman Corporation, Waffle Crete, 
and retired in 2006.

She grew up in Victoria and was the 1964 Class Valedictorian at Victoria High School.

Carol was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, the 
Telephone Pioneers of America, a past board member of Cancer Council of 
Ellis County, and a past board member of the United Way of Ellis 
County.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and her family.

Survivors include her husband, Eldon Gregg, of the home; one son, 
Daryl Gregg, Hays, KS; one daughter, Denise VanderGiesen and her 
husband, Bill, Mulvane, KS;&nbsp; one brother, Lloyd Wittman and his wife, 
Diana, Andover, KS; one sister, Connie Wittman, Kearney, NE; four 
grandchildren, Matea Gregg; Torrie Gregg; Kyler VanderGiesen and Ainsley
 VanderGiesen.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

The family suggests memorial to the Cancer Council of Ellis County.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 27, 2020, 
at St. Nicholas of&nbsp; Myra Catholic Church, 2901 East 13th Street,&nbsp; Hays,

Dan Ochs Jr., 94, passed away February 24, 2020, at Clara Barton 
Hospital, Hoisington. He was born on October 31, 1925, at Otis, to Dan 
Ochs, Sr. &amp; Violet (Schutler) Ochs. He married Catherine Martin on 
September 31, 1945, at Hays. She died November 21, 2009.

A lifetime Barton and Rush County resident, Dan currently resided in 
Great Bend. Dan was a farmer and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah
 Witness'. He served in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed farming 
and chasing the grandkids.

He is survived by two sons, Michael Ochs and wife Stella of Great 
Bend, and Roy Ochs and wife Julie of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Norma 
Jean Ochs of Holdrege, Neb., and Donna Smolick and husband Richard of 
Timken; eight grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and one great 
great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, 
Wanda Jacobs, and Leona Reinhart; and one grandson, Aaron Ochs.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place and a 
Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2020, at 
the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness’ in Great Bend, with Lewis Smith 
presiding.

He was born January 28, 1946 in Smith Center, KS the son of Tom Highley, Sr. and Faith (Fortin) Highley.

The Rev. William "Bill" Harden Sr., 71, passed away February 23, 2020 at Sandpiper Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wichita, KS.

He was born October 23, 1948 in Winnfield, LA, the son of Nathan and 
Cora Lee Austin Harden.&nbsp; Originally living in Louisiana, he moved to 
McPherson, Kansas and then to Larned, Kansas in 1992.&nbsp; He was a devoted 
minister, spending every Sunday at Church and was also a bus driver for 
USD 495, Larned.

He was a member of the Escue Chapel, CME Church, Larned and Second 
Baptist Church, Great Bend.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing and going to church.

On July 16, 1975, he married Katherine “Kat” Guye in Winnfield, LA. 
She died August 27, 2010.&nbsp; On May 26, 2012 he married Shirley Williams 
in Wichita.&nbsp; She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, William “Junior” (Lindy) Harden,
 Lawrence, KS, Shawn (Katelyn Shnuerlee) Harden, Hays, KS, Rodney 
Harden, Louisiana; two daughters, Renia Harden, Houston, TX, Lekisha 
Magee, Louisiana; brother, Roy Harden, McPherson, KS; and eight 
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; two sisters, Corene Foster and Erlene Magee.

Kenneth Gene Wolf, age 81, of Ellis, 
Kansas passed away Friday, February 21, 2020 at Hays Med. He was born 
November 29, 1938 in Ellis, Kansas to William and Catherine (Sauer) 
Wolf. He graduated from Ellis High School in 1956. On February 8, 1964 
he married Kathleen (Windholz) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis.

Kenny worked in the furniture business 
for most of his working career. He owned Wolf Furniture Galleries in 
Hays. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and He was a US Army
 Veteran serving in Korea. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but especially
 his family and grandchildren and the times they spent together. Kenny 
also enjoyed playing blackjack and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of
 his great granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy of 
Ellis; a son, Preston Wolf and wife Julianne of Hays; a daughter, Sue 
Ann Tebo and husband Brad of Ellis; two brothers, Steve Wolf of Great 
Bend, KS and Dennis Wolf of Salina, KS; three grandchildren, Paris Wolf,
 Skyler Tebo and Tori Tebo; a great grandson, Ryker Tebo as well as his 
companion, Reno.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Clark, Bill, Lawrence, Jack and Jim and one sister, Margaret Moore.

Kenneth Gene Wolf

Daniel Roeten, 21, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at his residence in Colby, Kansas.


Daniel, a nationally registered Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, 
was employed at Thomas County EMS in Colby.  He loved his job, the town,
 and his coworkers and had recently started pursuing his dream of 
obtaining his Paramedic certification.


Daniel was born in Hoorn, the Netherlands, on Sunday, December 20, 1998.
  He lived in the Poughkeepsie, New York area for most of his life.  He 
attended Faith Christian Academy and Roy C. Ketcham High School, 
graduating in 2017.  He was a member of the National English Honor 
Society and a recipient of both the Charles E. and Mabel E. Conklin 
Scholarship for Academic Excellence and the New Hackensack Fire Company 
Scholarship.


While in high school, Daniel joined the Dutchess County Cadet Squadron 
of the Civil Air Patrol, where he quickly developed a passion for 
Emergency Services.  He attended the Civil Air Patrol’s National 
Emergency Services Academy at Camp Atturbury, Indiana to obtain his 
Ground Search and Rescue Advanced certification.  He served as his 
squadron’s Safety Officer and had recently been promoted to Second 
Lieutenant.


Daniel also served as a volunteer firefighter with the New Hackensack 
Fire Department for several years, during which he received his interior
 rating and served as Editor in Chief and Layout Editor of the New 
Hackensack Fire Company’s annual newspaper in 2017.


Daniel was a big fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, and was a licensed HAM 
radio operator.  He had a passionate interest in meteorology from a 
young age, was a talented writer, and enjoyed composing electronic 
music.  Nothing could keep him away from a good pizza!


Daniel is survived by his mother, Michelle (Hennet) Roeten, of 
Poughkeepsie, NY; father, Paul Roeten, the Netherlands; siblings, Yael 
Roeten, Sacha Roeten and Joy Roeten; grandparents, Peter and Angela 
(Cipriano) Hennet, of Wappingers Falls, NY; several aunts, uncles and 
cousins, and his two cats, Breezy and Katrina.

Daniel Roeten

Barbara "Bobbie" Joanne (Cathcart) Hammit was born on February 28, 1943,&nbsp; in Lamar, CO to Paul and Abigail Cathcart. She went to be with her Lord 
and Savior on February 21, 2020, at the age of 76.


On July 17, 1967, she was united in marriage to Charles Hammit in 
Amarillo, TX. Bobbie touched many lives as she loved her family well and
 was always willing to bring others into her home and make them a part 
of her family too.  She enjoyed playing softball, tennis, and cards.  
You could be certain that she would be the first one on the dance floor 
the minute her favorite song began to play. People were guaranteed a 
great home cooked meal whether at her house or her restaurant. Bobbie 
knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior and desired the same for others.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie Hammit; 
brother, Jerry Cathcart; sister, Pauline Stillons; and daughter, Truddi 
Gail Hammit. 


Survivors include her sons Larry (Bobbie Jo) Hammit, of Hugo, CO and

 </figure>Barbara "Bobbie" Joanne (Cathcart) Hammit was born on February 28, 1943,&nbsp; in Lamar, CO to Paul and Abigail Cathcart. She went to be with her Lord 
and Savior on February 21, 2020, at the age of 76.
On July 17, 1967, she was united in marriage to Charles Hammit in 
Amarillo, TX. Bobbie touched many lives as she loved her family well and
 was always willing to bring others into her home and make them a part 
of her family too. She enjoyed playing softball, tennis, and cards. 
You could be certain that she would be the first one on the dance floor 
the minute her favorite song began to play. People were guaranteed a 
great home cooked meal whether at her house or her restaurant. Bobbie 
knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior and desired the same for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie Hammit; 
brother, Jerry Cathcart; sister, Pauline Stillons; and daughter, Truddi 
Gail Hammit. 
Survivors include her sons Larry (Bobbie Jo) Hammit, of Hugo, CO and 
Chad (Tasha) Hammit, of Krum, TX; daughters Vicki (Damian) Duran, of

Barbara 'Bobbie' Joanne (Cathcart) Hammit

John Keith Mick, age 71, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. 

 He was born on June 12, 1948, in Plainville, Kansas, the son of Frank J. &amp; Mary V. Thummel Mick.  John was a resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1967 moving from Lincoln, Kansas and was a appliance repair technician.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include One Brother - Ronald &amp; Loretta Mick of Perryton, Texas, One Sister - Margaret &amp; Charles Strouse of Ellsworth, Kansas and Numerous Nieces &amp; Nephews.

John was preceded in death by his Parents, Three Brothers - Jerome Mick, Richard Mick, David Mick and Three Sisters - Cathy Mick, Marilee Cramer and Marlene O’Connor.

Jerry P. Wendel, 89, passed away Feburary 24, 2020, at River Bend 
Assisted Living, Great Bend. He was born on October 15, 1930, at 
Ellinwood, the son of Peter L. &amp; Bertha A. (Steimel) Wendel. He 
married Theda Jo Whelan on November 30, 1957 at Great Bend. She 
survives.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Jerry was the division manager for 
Centel/Western Plains Energy for 19 years. After working for 40 years 
there, he retired on February 1, 1993. He was a member of Prince of 
Peace Parish at St. Rose and Knights of Columbus. He had been active in 
many areas within the community, such as a director for CKMC, Kansas 
Association of Commerce and Industry, an inside chairman for the 3I 
Exhibition and Central Kansas Development, as well as, the Great Bend 
Lions Club, Elks Lodge, Chamber of Commerce, Vintage Wheel Antique Auto 
Club, MACK Flying Club, Kansas Calvary and the Great Bend County Club.

Survivors include, his wife, Theda Jo Wendel of the home; a brother, 
Thomas Wendel of Hutchinson; and many nieces and nephews, and great 
nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two 
sisters, Catherine Birzer and Audrey Puckett.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place and the register book will be available to sign, Wednesday, February 26th to Friday, February 28th,
 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., 
Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial

Joyce Elaine (Schoen) Preston, beloved daughter of Alvin and Effie (Kirk) Schoen, was born in Leota Township located in Norton County, Kansas, on October 29, 1931, and peacefully passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, on February 21, 2020, at the age of 88.

Joyce grew up in Norton County where she attended school at the Valley View District #40,  and attended the Norton Jr High and High and graduated from Norton Community High School in 1949.

On, August 18, 1957, Joyce was united in marriage in Norton, Kansas, to the love of her life, Lee Preston, and they were married for over 62 years.  Joyce started her working career in Norton, working for Andy Larson for USD 211. 

They lived in Anderson, Indiana from 1957-58, Las Animas, Colorado, 1958-65, Denver, Colorado, 1965-75, Monta Vista, Colorado, from 1975-78, Grand Junction, Colorado, 1978-2007. 

While in Colorado, Joyce was sought by the U.S. Department of Energy to help develop annual budgets.  She held the position of Executive Secretary for heads of companies contracting with the Department of Energy for Uranium remediation on the Colorado Western Slopes. 

Joyce was the founding president of the Las Animas Jayce Janes.

They returned back to home in Norton in 2007, where Joyce was an active member of the churches where her husband would Pastor.  During her life, Joyce enjoyed being her Pastor's "special assistant" with four different congregations.   Joyce loved to teach Sunday School and enjoyed being a vocalist, singing as a soloist in trios and quartets, as well as being a pianist.  

Her greatest love was her family, especially her husband Lee.

Survivors include:  Her loving husband, Lee; niece, Bev Miller; Grand Nieces and Nephews and many other friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ila Marie Ritter, and step mother Mary Schoen.

Joyce Elaine (Schoen) Preston

Leonard Duane Wertz was born June 14, 1940, and bounded into eternity February 21, 2020.

Born to Richard and Pearl Wertz in Las Animas, Colorado, Len was the youngest of four children. His childhood stories seemed larger than life: seeing electricity come to the McClave area, bareback horse riding, nearly drowning in John Martin Reservoir, 4H and FFA exploits, and meeting President Eisenhower. After graduating from McClave High School, he went on to receive a biology degree with minors in music and horticulture from Colorado State University. He then taught chemistry in the Peace Corps in Ghana, Africa, bringing home tales of eating rat meat.

Upon returning home from Ghana, he swept Ronda Hostetler off her feet and married her on September 23, 1967. They traveled extensively across the USA and enjoyed multiple trips to Israel, Europe, and the UK. Together they raised two boys, Brad and Todd, who went on to marry and bring nine grandchildren into his life. He was a proud “Gramps," interested in praying for and promoting their adventures while watching them grow up to be productive young men and women.&nbsp; He also enjoyed two great-grandchildren who made him smile even when he could no longer pick them up, one of whom prayed with him the day before he passed into eternity.

In 1975, Len started Youth Retreat, a summer discipleship camp in the Rockies designed to teach young people the joy of knowing Jesus through Biblical instruction. He is remembered by many for charging up a mountain trail with Bible under one arm, a poster board under the other, with forty youth following close behind. As a minister in the Dunkard Brethren Church, Len conducted revival meetings all over the United States. Through these, he influenced many and was keen on motivating believers away from the status quo toward robust, faith-filled living.

His unending optimism was grounded in a firm faith in Jesus as his Savior and Lord. His seemingly tireless energy and determination to be productive amazed all who knew him. Len loved life and poured his passion into people. Over the years he was a biology teacher, florist, chemist, sales rep, and finally served as a paraeducator in the Quinter public schools. He enjoyed travel, gardening, floral design, barbershop, studying prophecy, and Youth Retreat, and taught his family to celebrate Christmas wholeheartedly. To Len, no meal was complete without dessert, his favorite part of eating.&nbsp;

On this side of eternity, he left his wife Ronda Wertz of Quinter; sons, Brad (Kirsten) and Todd (Ricki); grandsons Matthias (Cassie, Blaine, Corey, Keegan, Aiden; granddaughters Kimberly, Liberty, Autumn, and Jillian, all of Quinter; great-grandchildren Liam and Lauren Wertz of Quinter; and three siblings: Etta &nbsp; Clayton, Ivan Wertz (Edna, Wanda Lutz (John). He was preceded in death by his parents; Lawrence Clayton (brother-in-law); and granddaughter Elizabeth Wertz.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 2, 2020 at Quinter Church of the Brethren, with burial to follow at Baker Township cemetery.&nbsp;

Leonard Duane Wertz

Mirl E. Barnett, 86, Rexford, passed away February 21, 2020 at Prairie Senior Living, Colby. 


He was born on August 17, 1933 on the family farm in Thomas County, 
Kansas north of Rexford, to Jesse E. and Edna F. (Chadd) Barnett. He was
 a 1951 graduate of Rexford High School.  


Mirl married Evelyn W. Walters on September 27, 1952, in Rexford, 
Kansas. Throughout his life he was a farmer as well as the feed mill 
operator for COOP. In addition, he spent many years driving trucks for 
Short &amp; Son, and M &amp; A Barnett Trucking.  After retirement, he 
hauled grain for Wark Farms and was the caretaker of the Rexford 
Cemetery.


He was a lifelong race fan.  He began his driving career in 1954, 
one of his highlights was driving for Lonnie Morosic out of McCook, 
Nebraska in the propane powered #9 Sprint Car.  He was inducted into the
 Big Car Racing Association Hall of Fame on June 14, 2013.  He was 
extremely proud of this accomplishment.  


Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of 67 years of Rexford, Kansas; 
one son, Troy Barnett and his wife Connie of Elkhart, Kansas; two 
daughters, Kandi Washburn and husband Fred of Hoxie and Kris Hagans and 
husband Kirby of Wellington, Kansas; one sister, Opal Moss and husband 
Earl of Hoxie, Kansas; four grandchildren: Steve Washburn and wife Amber
 of Gorham, Kansas, Shawna Martinez and husband Lolo of Hobbs, New 
Mexico, Amy Brillhart and husband Dusty of Elkhart, Kansas, and Kade 
Hagans of Hays, Kansas; eight great-grandchildren: Ashtyn Washburn, 
Easton Washburn, Danzy Martinez, Izabelle Martinez, Zander Martinez, 
Madyson Brillhart, Mason Brillhart, and Emmalyn Brillhart.


He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roy Barnett
 (in infancy, Elgin Barnett, Darrell Barnett; one sister, Virginia 
Allison; one grandson, Jason Barnett and one great-grandson, Zalin 
Martinez. 


Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, February 26, 2020 
at the Rexford Community Church. Burial will follow at the Rexford

Todd Eugene Bellinger

Ruth L. Bitter Ochs Howard, age 92, died February 21, 2020 at Rhode 
Island Suites, Ransom, Kansas where she had been residing since 2012. 


She was born March 27, 1927 in Barton County, Kansas the daughter of 
Julius Bitter and Emilie Schmidt Bitter. Ruth completed 8th 
grade in Barton County at a one-room schoolhouse. She attended Salt Lake
 City Business College at age 16 in Hutchinson, Kansas. On May 5, 1946 
she married Leonard Ochs in Barton County. Leonard died on May 26, 1964.
 She went back to high school in 1966 and graduated Salutatorian from 
Utica High School in 1968. She married Donald “D.D.” Howard on October 
25, 1968 in Jennings, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 7, 
2019. Also preceding her in death were her two brothers Harry and Eugene
 Bitter.

Ruth was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church and 
the United Methodist Women of Utica and WaKeeney. She was also a member 
of the Starlight Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by a daughter, Marlene Hord and her husband, Karl, of
 Nixa, Missouri; four sons, John Ochs and his wife, Julie, of Seminole, 
Alabama; Tom Ochs and his wife, Kris, of Utica; Leonard D. Ochs and his 
wife, Cynthia, of Utica; and Hardy Howard and his wife, Dawn, of 
WaKeeney; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 7 step-great 
grandchildren and 1 step-great great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church, Utica
 on Friday, February 28, 2020, 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Bud Tuxhorn 
presiding. Inurnment in the Utica cemetery following the service. 
Friends may sign the memorial book at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City
 on Thursday, February 27 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family
 present from 5-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the United

Ruth Leona Howard

Betty Mattas, age 87 of Wilson, passed away on Friday, February 21, 
2020, in Tipton, Kansas surrounded by her loved ones. Betty was born to 
Henry J. Kepka and Charlotte (Lilak) Kepka on December 17, 1932, in 
rural Dorrance, Kansas. She had five siblings; Raymond, Harold, Leonard,
 Alice, and Adeline.


Betty grew up in Dorrance where she attended Dorrance High School 
and graduated with the Class of 1950. Following high school, she went on
 to attend Marymount College in Salina for two years. She then returned 
to rural Dorrance where she met Emil F. Mattas. They were united in 
marriage on April 3, 1956, in Wilson, Kansas. Betty and Emil moved to a 
family farm east of Wilson where they raised their four children: 
Kathleen, Teresa, Francis, and Rosemary. Due to scarlet fever at age 5, 
Betty was deaf for a lot of her life and she became a talented, 
self-taught, lip reader. She enjoyed polka dancing, crocheting, the 
farm, and being outside. She loved her farm animals, especially the 
dogs.  Betty was an extremely hard worker, never known to complain; she 
was humble and will be remembered for her contagious chuckle and smile 
that never faded. A devout Catholic, she was a member of the St. 
Wenceslaus Church Altar Society. Her church family will remember her 
usual place in the front right, and although now empty, her memory will 
be cherished.


A hardworking woman of faith, hope, and love, Betty showed us all by
 her life that the greatest of these is love. Although she will be 
greatly missed, she will live forever in the hearts of those who knew 
her best, for they were greatly loved.


Betty is survived by her children, Francis (Stephanie) Mattas of 
Greenville, SC; Kathleen (Wendell) Willis of Lenexa, KS; and Teresa 
(Tom) Gasper, of Tipton, KS; brother, Raymond (Arnelda) Kepka of 
Dorrance, KS; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Charlotte Kepka; 
daughter, Rosemary Dlabal; and siblings, Harold and Leonard Kepka, Alice
 Gerritzen, and Adeline Bechard.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 
2020, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church at 10:30 AM. Burial will 
follow at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on 
Monday, February 24, 2020, 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the funeral home in 
Wilson and 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the church with a Vigil Service and 
Rosary at 7:00PM.

Betty Mattas

Robert “Bob” K. Kiser, 81, Salina, was born December 14, 1938 in rural Cloud County Kansas and died February 19, 2020 at his home.

Raised in the Delphos community graduated in 1956 a Delphos Maroon attended Kansas State University then graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Emporia State University.

Bob worked as a schoolteacher, coach, farmer, and retired from Exide Industries as a battery operator.&nbsp; Bob married Nancy Joan Richards in Scottsville, Kansas on April 13, 1968. She passed away February 14, 2004.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Cristina (Donald) Scheibler of Hays; his son, Terry (Elizabeth) of Powell, Wyoming; six grandchildren, Chase (Lexi) Scheibler, Augusta, Ky (Ashley) Scheibler, Dylan Scheibler all of Hays, Hunter, Hannah, and Noah Kiser all of Powell, Wyoming; four great grandchildren, Emma, Kaycee, Charli, and Remington; and his sister, Phyllis Maxine Shivers of Coffeyville, Kansas.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy; brother Grant Edward; &nbsp;brother-in-law, Raymond Shivers; nephew, Doug Kiser; and two nieces, Brenda Shivers and Lorri Scheibler.

				Kathy Jo Holsman, 66, of Gem, died Friday, February 21, 2020 at 
Citizens Medical Center, Colby.  She was born August 26, 1953, in 
Stillwell, OK, to Lester and Bernice (Worley) Holiman. Kathy loved to 
cook, read, fish and garden. On May 26, 1992, she married Edwin Holsman.


She was preceded in death by her parents; son Curtis Sporing; brother Don Worley and sister Ann Bowen. 


She is survived by her husband, Edwin Holsman; son Kenneth (Cheryl) 
Holiman; sisters, Rhonda Morris and Gail Dodds; sister-in-law, Leona 
Worley; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 


Cremation was chosen. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. –

Kathy Jo Holsman

Clifford “Cliff” R. Jordan, 87, passed away February 21, 2020, at 
Almost Home, Inc., Great Bend. Cliff was born December 5, 1932 in 
Claflin, to Elmer Charles, Jr. and Georgia Martha Jordan. He married 
Joanna “Jo” Miller August 30, 1959, in Great Bend. A lifetime 
Barton County resident, Clifford lived in Great Bend. He was a meter 
reader for 48 years for Centel, formerly Western Power, a member of 
First Christian Church, and former Scout leader and church youth leader.
 He was passionate about the outdoors, enjoying gardening, cactus 
collecting, and walking the neighborhood. His love of the outdoors led 
him to 25 years of service as a local weather monitor/recorder for the 
National Weather Service. Above all, Cliff was known as a loving 
dedicated family man. 

Survivors include, his wife, Jo; two sons, Michael Jordan and wife 
Kathy of Hutchinson, and Scott Jordan and wife Heather of Denver, Colo.;
 a sister, Lois Nichols of Salina; and two grandchildren, Caroline, and 
Grant Jordan. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bob 
Jordan; and a sister, Mae Eaton.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at 
First Christian Church in Great Bend, with Rev. Josh Leu presiding. 
Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend. Visitation

Cheryl G. Keener, 59, passed away Friday, February 21, 2020, at Hays 
Medical Center, Hays. She was born September 21, 1960, at Great Bend, 
the daughter of Allan and Sharon (Foos) Roach. Cheryl was united in 
marriage to Thomas Keener April 1, 1984, in Larned.

Cheryl, a Great Bend resident, was a long-time manager of Zip Stop, 
Ellinwood, more recently working at Sutherlands in Great Bend. Cheryl 
was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her husband Thomas Keener of the home; two sons, 
Chris Keener and wife Ecco, and Kevin Keener both of Great Bend; two 
grandchildren, Jonathan P. and Temperance N. Keener. She was preceded in
 death by her parents Allan and Sharon Roach, and two brothers, Samuel 
and Bradley Roach.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held later.

Dominican Sisters’ convent infirmary, Great Bend. She was born June 21, 
1928, in Willowdale, KS, the daughter of Conrad and Anna Gehlen Miller. 
She entered the Dominican Sisters Community in 1947 and pronounced vows 
in 1950. Sister Mary Conrad ministered as a teacher and principal from 
1952 - 2013. Sister Mary Conrad was preceded in death by her parents, 
three brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by two sisters, Leona 
Henning of Wichita and Alfreda Youngers Bock of Kingman, as well as the 
Dominican Sisters of Peace.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 25, 
2020. A Vigil Service will be held Monday, February 24, at 7:00 PM. Both
 will take place at the Sisters’ Convent. Friends may call at the

Sister Mary Conrad Miller

Jackie LeRoy Miller Jr., 52, passed away February 19, 2020, at 
Salina Regional Health Center, Salina. He was born on October 16, 1967, 
to Jackie LeRoy &amp; Peggy Lee (Harrell) Miller, at Great Bend. He 
married Carmen G. McGee on October 17, 1998, at Halstead. She survives.

Jackie was a current Great Bend resident. He was a welder for 
Mountain West Oilfield Service in Vernal, Utah and most recently a 
shipping and receiving clerk at Tortilla King in Moundridge, until his 
retirement in 2014. He was a member of the Wichita Darting Association. 
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, camping, shooting and anything 
outdoors. He was a hobby tattoo artist, liked eagles, and was an x box 
World of Tanks enthusiast.

Survivors include, his wife, Carmen Miller of the home; three sons, 
John Alvie Miller and wife Annie, and Brian James Miller, all of Vernal,
 Utah, and Kenton Grauerholz and wife Brittany of Great Bend; a

 </figure>Jackie LeRoy Miller Jr., 52, passed away February 19, 2020, at 
Salina Regional Health Center, Salina. He was born on October 16, 1967, 
to Jackie LeRoy &amp; Peggy Lee (Harrell) Miller, at Great Bend. He 
married Carmen G. McGee on October 17, 1998, at Halstead. She survives.Jackie was a current Great Bend resident. He was a welder for 
Mountain West Oilfield Service in Vernal, Utah and most recently a 
shipping and receiving clerk at Tortilla King in Moundridge, until his 
retirement in 2014. He was a member of the Wichita Darting Association. 
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, camping, shooting and anything 
outdoors. He was a hobby tattoo artist, liked eagles, and was an x box 
World of Tanks enthusiast.Survivors include, his wife, Carmen Miller of the home; three sons, 
John Alvie Miller and wife Annie, and Brian James Miller, all of Vernal,
 Utah, and Kenton Grauerholz and wife Brittany of Great Bend; a 
daughter, Natasha Taylor and husband Chris of Vernal, Utah; mother in

SMITH CENTER-   W.G. “Bill” Hawes, The Great White Hunter, age 88, 
passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at the SunPorch of Smith 
Center, KS.  He was born October 9, 1931 in Wakefield, KS to Elmer and 
Evelyn (Gaston) Hawes.  He was a pharmacist.


Bill is survived by his wife Carolyn of Smith Center;   sons, Drew 
(Emily) of Kansas City and Kirk (Mary) of Atlanta, GA; sister Dea Adent;
 step-son Kelly Smith of Kensington, KS;   step daughter Crystal Roberts
 of Ashland, KS; sisters in law Connie Kelley and Linda Carnes   and 1 
granddaughter Dylan Solida.

Lifelong Goodland, KS, resident Robert Lynn Reed, 67, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, CO.

He was born on November 29, 1952 in Scott City, KS to Lavern Dale and Shirley Maxine (Rapier) Reed.&nbsp; He was one of 5 children.&nbsp; Robert attended school in Goodland.

Robert had three children; Brian, Shawn and Kerri.&nbsp; He worked for the Sugar Beet Factory, City of Goodland as a cemetery caretaker and then a parks groundskeeper for many years.&nbsp; He was also part of the Sherman County Sherriff’s Reserve.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, fishing, muscle cars, playing the lottery, drinking coffee at the Cowboy Corner, driving around town, and most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving family includes his children Brian Pettit of Denver, Colorado, Shawn Reed of Manhattan, KS and Kerri (Jr.) Vasquez of Goodland, KS.&nbsp; He is also survived by his grandchildren Haley, Melinda and Nat Vasquez, Kiley, Austin and Brandon Pettit and Taylor Owings and his great granddaughter Dahlia Hunter; three brothers Barry (Dianna) Reed of Alliance, NE, David (Denise) Reed of Lee’s Summit, MO and Ronnie (Debbie) Reed of Goodland, KS, and one sister Teresa (Brian) Vance of Wray, CO. &nbsp;

Funeral services for Robert will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 1:30 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland with Pastor Brent Flanders officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland.
