Carlyn Murphy, age 87, formerly of Hays, died Sunday, May 10, at Midland Care in Topeka. She was born August 29, 1932 in Abilene Kansas to Walter D. and Pauline (Jeffcoat) Burcham. She graduated from Abilene High School and attended Emporia State University.
She married Harlan F. Murphy on January 3, 1953 in Abilene. The family moved to Hays in 1965. She was a retail sales clerk in a dress shop and later owned a basket shop-The Wicker Hang Up. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, playing bridge with friends, and had a love for cats.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie Bollig, Hays, KS. Three grandchildren, Alison (Corey) Alfonsi, Topeka; Ryan Bollig, Kansas City, MO; and Aaron (Melissa) Bollig, Leawood, KS. Four great grandchildren; Carson and Caylee Alfonsi and Kinley and Landrey Bollig.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Cindy Murphy, and a son in law, Bob Bollig.
The family will have a private burial service at a later date.
