Joann Micheli, 90, McCracken, Kansas, died Thursday, April 9, 2020, at her home.

Mrs. Micheli was born July 20, 1929, in McCracken, Kansas, the 
daughter of Chester and Fern (VanWinkle) Juvenal.&nbsp; She was a resident of
 McCracken, Kansas, most of her life, however, she also lived in 
Littleton, Colorado, and Houston, Texas.

A 1947 graduate of McCracken High School, McCracken, Kansas, she was 
an office administrator in education, and a florist before retiring.&nbsp; 
After retirement, she became a volunteer at St. John’s Hospice in 
Denver, Colorado.

She had a strong faith, and attended both, Methodist and Catholic churches.

Joann loved gardening and working in her yard. At the end of the day,
 she could be found sitting outside admiring the sunset with a crossword
 puzzle close by. She had fun playing Scrabble and usually came out on 
top of that game. Above all, Joann loved her grandchildren and great 
grandchilden and she was looking forward to the birth of her next great 
grandchild this coming June.&nbsp;

Joann was the type of person that you leaned into. You wanted to hear
 all of her thoughts. You somehow knew that all of her conversations 
were intimate and that you would be thinking about them for days.&nbsp; Where
 she went, she brought with her a loving, open heart. She walked through
 life with resilience and authenticity. She was your best friend who 
always met you with honesty, wit, and kindness. Because kindness is what
 she brought to every conversation as well as every situation. She was, 
without a doubt, the strongest and most gentle person that we could all 
have had the privilege to know. Joann was magic in motion and we are all
 better off to have known and loved her.&nbsp;

She married Emerson Sloan in 1951.&nbsp; This marriage ended in divorce.&nbsp; She married Bob Micheli in 1984.&nbsp; He preceded her in death.

Survivors include:&nbsp; her son, Steve Sloan, McCracken, Kansas; her 
daughter, Linda Dale, McCracken, Kansas; four grandchildren, Kelli 
Ramirez, McCracken, Kansas, Robert Sloan (Dylana, Hutchinson, Kansas, 
Audra Holland (Flynn, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Evan Dale, Denver, 
Colorado; three great grandchildren, Bella and Drake Ramirez, and Perrin
 Holland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands: and her sister, Jackie.

Because of the current challenges the world is facing at the present 
time, the family will host a Celebration of Life in the future, to be 
announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the McCracken Public Library, McCracken, Kansas.

Joann Micheli

Hanora Gertrude Homburg, age 87, of 
Ellis, Kansas passed away at her daughter’s home in Ellis on April 16, 
2020. She was born on October 27, 1932 in Ellis, Kansas the daughter of 
Clarence and Gertrude (Lynd) Shubert. Hanora married Arnold Homburg on 
June 19, 1965 in rural Ellis, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on 
November 2, 2002.

Hanora was a farmer and stockwoman. She
 was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Rural Ellis where she taught 
Sunday School and was a dedicated room mother for all three of her 
children.&nbsp; She was a member of the WELCA and HDU. Hanora loved being a 
grandmother and great grandmother.&nbsp; She was a hard worker on the farm 
and had a special photogenic memory and could match baby calves and 
their mommas without ear tags.&nbsp;

She is survived by two sons, Steve 
(Jeri) Homburg, Ellis and Tim (Mary Beth) Homburg, Overland Park; her 
daughter Kathy Desaire Ellis;&nbsp; grandchildren, Danny and Kimberly 
Desaire, Hannah, Emma and Kara Homburg; step grandchildren, Korwin 
(Alicia) Wyatt, Ellis and Kasi(David) Wyatt-Smith, Olathe; great 
grandchildren, Parker and Briella Desaire, Ellis and step great 
grandchildren Aiden and Sera Wyatt, Ellis and Jude, Reese and Leo Smith 
of Olathe.

Hanora was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers; Clarence, Keith, Elivn and John, son-in-law, Bill Desaire.

A Celebration of life service will be 
held and announced at a later date when the gathering restrictions due 
to the Covid 19 virus have been lifted.&nbsp;

Jorge Saavedra, 43, passed away April 18, 2020 at the University of Kansas Health System Pawnee Valley Campus, Larned

He was born February 10, 1977 in Escondido, California; the son of Vincent and Maria I. Elizondo Saavedra.&nbsp;

Survivors include; his mother, Maria Saavedra; a son, Jorge Saavedra 
Jr.; three daughters, Rachel Saavedra, Kayle Saavedra Starlee Saavedra, 
his significant other, Amber Clark, all of Larned; a brother, Sergio 
Saavedra, Belpre; two sisters, Ileana Saavedra, Baja, California and 
Marcela Saavedra, Santa Barbara, California.

He was preceded in death by: his father Vincent Saavedra, and two sisters, Lupe Saavedra and Maria Gomez.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.&nbsp;

Harold Edmund "Edd" Jackson, 68, passed away April 15, 2020, at his 
home in Olpe.&nbsp; He was born on July 7th, 1951, in Kansas City, Mo.&nbsp; He 
grew up on a ranch in the Flint Hills of Greenwood County Kan., the son 
of Harry “Hap” &amp; Kathryn (Palmer) Jackson.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Following the boom of the oilfields he landed in Great Bend.&nbsp; 
Eventually meeting Pamela (Day) Jackson through a mutual friend.&nbsp; On 
August 28, 1982 the two were married at their home in Great Bend.&nbsp; It 
was there they raised their three sons.&nbsp; Edd was preceded in death by 
his devoted wife of 32 years on April 7,2015.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After his retirement of a life long love of driving a truck for Jomax
 Pipeline Construction Co., he moved back closer to family and the Flint
 Hills.&nbsp; An active member of the Olpe community since July of 2017, he 
was part of the Lyons Club and the Olpe volunteer fire dept.&nbsp; He was a 
member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend and a member of the 
Central States Synod Companion Synod Committee.&nbsp; He Made two trips to 
Russia to further the word of Christ.&nbsp; Edd was currently attending a 
small country church, like he grew up in, the Ebenezer United Methodist 
Church in Olpe.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Edd enjoyed attending his grandchildren's various programs, sporting 
events, and school functions.&nbsp; He also enjoyed sharing his rich baritone
 voice in church choir and an occasional solo.&nbsp; He loved to travel, KU 
basketball, and The Kansas City Royals.&nbsp; Recently returning his 
interests in summering cattle in Greenwood County.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Edd is survived by his three sons,&nbsp;Jeff Jackson and wife Alexandra of
 Olpe, Chris Short and wife Jennifer of Andover, and Daylin Short of 
Lakewood, Colo.;&nbsp;nine grandchildren, Evie Jackson, Sophia Jackson, Emery
 Jackson, Harlow Jackson, Matthew Short, Christiane Short, J.T. Short, 
Claire Short, and Halle Short;&nbsp;two sisters, Kathy Drake and husband 
Raymond of Wichita and their sons Ryan, Scott and Troy Drake, and Margie
 Swisher and husband Brian of Independence and their children Bri Berry 
and Russell Swisher.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Services 
are pending and will be announced at a later date. Memorials are

Ida Marie Shelton, 88, passed away April 16, 2020 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born November 17, 1931 in La Crosse to Ralph and Roxie Woods McNemee.

A longtime area resident she was a homemaker and a secretary. She 
attended the First Southern Baptist Church, Larned and was involved with
 the Welcome Inn Senior Center, Larned.

On July 23, 1949 she married Donald Shelton in Sharon Springs, they later divorced. He passed away December 17, 2000.

Survivors include: three sons, Ronald (Marletta) Shelton, Richard 
“Dick” (Rosie) Shelton, and Kenny (Jenny) Shelton, all of Larned; 
daughter, Donna Martin, Larned; daughter-in-law Mary Shelton, Larned; 
brother Dan Sinklier, Colorado Springs, Colorado; eleven grandchildren 
and fifteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gary Shelton; four 
brothers Ralph McNemee, Everett McNemee, Jim Sinklier and Mike 
Sinklier.; infant sister Elizabeth Ann McNemee; and an additional set of
 parents, Clarence and Lena Unruh.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Larned Cemetery, 
Larned, with Pastor Mark Slattery presiding. Visitation 1:00 p.m. to 
8:00 p.m. Sunday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Jan E. Schneider, 79, of Osborne, KS died on Sunday, April 12, 2020 
at Parkview Care Center of Osborne, KS. &nbsp;She was born on December 26, 
1940 to General Lafayette &amp; Nita (Love) Henderson at&nbsp;Bellevue, CO.

Jan's education was through the 9th grade. &nbsp;She later married Vernon L. Schneider and to this union 2 children were born.

As well as Jan being a homemaker, she was a self-employeed business owner.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, and son, Frank Moore.

Jan is survived by her daughter;&nbsp;Susan (Ronnie) Lynn of Osborne, KS; 
sister: Barbara Overmeyer of Loveland, CO; brother: James Henderson of 
Ft. Collins, CO; 5 grandchildren.

Jan E. Schneider

Abram S. “Abe” Goodwin, 89, passed away April 16, 2020, at 
Medicalodges of Great Bend. He was born on March 4, 1931, at Great Bend,
 the son of Abram &amp; Twila (Glenn) Goodwin. He married Imogene Reeves
 McCord on December 20, 1986, in Pawnee Rock. She survives.

Abram attended Great Bend High School. He moved to Cody, Wyo., in 
1948 and worked for an electrical contractor. He enlisted in the Wyoming
 National Guard, the 300th AFA BN was activated at the beginning of the 
Korean conflict. His unit was awarded two Presidential Unit citations. 
He was discharged with the rank of SFC.

Abram was a member of the St. John Episcopal Church, American Legion 
Post #180, and Great Bend Alcoholics Anonymous. He worked the last 36 
years at Midwest Energy. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and just being
 with his family and loved ones.

Survivors include, his wife Imogene of the home; two sons, Mark 
Goodwin and wife Bokti of Vermont, and Rodney Goodwin and wife Susy of 
Lindsborg; two grandchildren, Daniel Goodwin and Andrew Goodwin; four 
stepchildren, Bill and Tanya McCord of Ellinwood, Larry and Diana McCord
 of Hawthorne, Fla., Daniel and Carolyn Maser of Great Bend, and Doug 
and Shirley Flick of Great Bend; nine step grandchildren, Shannaon 
Stephens, Dale Peterson, Christopher Maser, Brandon Maser, Ryan Flick, 
Daniel Flick, Heather Dombroski, Christopher McCord, and Jason Daily; 
and fourteen step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 
parents; and a sister.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 
21, 2020, and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at 
Bryant Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., 
Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at the Great Bend Cemetery, with Pastor Tim 
Singleton. Military Rites will be conducted by the Kansas National 
Guard. Memorials are suggested to The Fallen Lineman Organization, in 
care of Bryant Funeral Home.

 </figure>Abram S. “Abe” Goodwin, 89, passed away April 16, 2020, at 
Medicalodges of Great Bend. He was born on March 4, 1931, at Great Bend,
 the son of Abram &amp; Twila (Glenn) Goodwin. He married Imogene Reeves
 McCord on December 20, 1986, in Pawnee Rock. She survives.Abram attended Great Bend High School. He moved to Cody, Wyo., in 
1948 and worked for an electrical contractor. He enlisted in the Wyoming
 National Guard, the 300th AFA BN was activated at the beginning of the 
Korean conflict. His unit was awarded two Presidential Unit citations. 
He was discharged with the rank of SFC.Abram was a member of the St. John Episcopal Church, American Legion 
Post #180, and Great Bend Alcoholics Anonymous. He worked the last 36 
years at Midwest Energy. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and just being
 with his family and loved ones.Survivors include, his wife Imogene of the home; two sons, Mark 
Goodwin and wife Bokti of Vermont, and Rodney Goodwin and wife Susy of 
Lindsborg; two grandchildren, Daniel Goodwin and Andrew Goodwin; four 
stepchildren, Bill and Tanya McCord of Ellinwood, Larry and Diana McCord
 of Hawthorne, Fla., Daniel and Carolyn Maser of Great Bend, and Doug 
and Shirley Flick of Great Bend; nine step grandchildren, Shannaon 
Stephens, Dale Peterson, Christopher Maser, Brandon Maser, Ryan Flick, 
Daniel Flick, Heather Dombroski, Christopher McCord, and Jason Daily; 
and fourteen step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 
parents; and a sister.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 
21, 2020, and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at 
Bryant Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., 
Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at the Great Bend Cemetery, with Pastor Tim 
Singleton. Military Rites will be conducted by the Kansas National 
Guard. Memorials are suggested to The Fallen Lineman Organization, in

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW, Scott City Shrine Club, Masonic Lodge #284, Lions Club and Eastern Star all of Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; Kenneth was a US Army Veteran serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict.

On September 27, 1943 he married Vera Alberta Schlegel in Bison, Kansas.&nbsp; She passed away on October 18, 2008 in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors included his Three Sons - Kenneth Jr. &amp; Charlene Fyler of Wichita, Kansas, Michael &amp; Melinda Fyler of McPherson, Kansas,&nbsp; Steven &amp; Loretta Fyler of Scott City, Kansas, Two Sisters - Joyce &amp; Dean Buchholz of California, Beverly Steitz of Elkhart, Kansas, Fourteen Grandchildren, Forty Four Great Grandchildren, and Twelve Great Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife - Vera, Two Brothers and One Sister.

Due to the current virus situation, Private Family Graveside services will be heldlater this week with Rev. Larry Danforth presiding.

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp;

Bonnie Craig, age 63, died on Thursday, April 16, 2020 in Garden City, Kansas.  She was born on July 31, 1956, the daughter of Doy and Ruth Dolsby Harp in Scott City, Kansas.

She was a long time member of the Scott City and Garden City communities and worked for USD 466 as a custodian until her retirement.

Warren Dale Jones passed away on Tuesday April 7, 2020, at Parkview 
Care Center in Osborne, KS. &nbsp;Dale was born on July 8, 1945 to LeRoy 
"Roy" &amp; Clara Bell (Pick) Jones at the Harwood Nursing Home in 
Stockton, KS. &nbsp;Dale was one of several children.

Dale graduated from Woodston High School and attended Fort Hays State
 University. &nbsp;He was a retired member of the Phillipsburg National 
Guard.

Dale lived most of his life in the Woodston/Stockton area. &nbsp;He spent 
most of his adult life in and around the harvest field as a custom 
harvester.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dale&nbsp;was quite a storyteller. &nbsp;He also enjoyed&nbsp;going to the 
horse races.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Richard 
"Duane"&nbsp;Jones;&nbsp;William E. "Bill"&nbsp;Jones; sisters: Ruth Darlene Jones; 
Marie (Jones) Dix.

Dale is survived by his children;&nbsp;son: Todd (Sherida) Jones 
of&nbsp;Wichita, KS; daughter: Kimberly (Clint) Hill of Surprise, AZ; 
brother: Kenneth (Carol) Jones of Kirwin, KS; 5 grandchildren; friend 
&amp;&nbsp;caregiver Molene Green Hartzler of Stockton, KS; and many friends 
from Oklahoma to North Dakota.

Rozanne Augustine, age 87, of Hays, 
Kansas passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020 in Overland Park, Kansas. 
She was born on March 11, 1933 in&nbsp;Hays, KS to Adam and Anna (Polifka) 
Walters. She married Marvin “Murph” Augustine on Sept. 23, 1954 in 
Severin, KS. He preceded her in death on August 6, 2012&nbsp;

She lived in Lacrosse, KS for 33 years 
where she was a homemaker and worked at Rick's Food Store. After she 
moved to Hays in 1989 with Murph, she worked at Hays International 
Mailing before retiring in 1998.

Survivors include three daughters: 
Debbie Wasinger and husband, Lloyd, Manhattan, Kansas, Becky Sledd, 
Overland Park, and Kelly Augustine, Shawnee, Kansas; a son, Dave 
Augustine, Lawrence, Kansas; two sisters, Eileen Leiker and husband, 
Wif,&nbsp; and Dorothy Goetz, both of Hays; and one brother, Ken Walters, 
Bend, OR; six grandchildren, Laura Wasinger, Nick Wasinger, Danielle 
Farha, Taylor Augustine, Brooke Sledd, Blake Sledd; and six 
great-grandchildren, Evan Wasinger, Max Villigram, Briggs Villigram, 
Finley Villigram, Bowen Villigram and Rory Sledd.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents; four brothers, Ernest, Harold, Irvin and William Walters; one 
sister, Mary Frances Dreiling; and two grandchildren, Brady Sledd and

Berdetta B. Branan was called to Heaven on April 13, 2020, at 
Mennonite Friendship Community, Hutchinson, KS. Berdetta was born 
October 10, 1925, in Beloit, KS to Everitt and Burnettie (Sloan) 
Burkhead. She grew up on the family farm seven miles south of Beloit 
with her three siblings and her loving parents.

Berdetta graduated from Beloit High School after attending a one room
 school house less than a half mile from the family farmstead. Berdetta 
then attended Colorado Women's College in Denver, CO, for two years and 
then continued her education at Kansas State University in Manhattan, 
KS. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and then 
returned to the Beloit farmstead to teach school in the one room school 
house that she attended as a child.

The following fall Berdetta was married to Robert Lynn Branan and 
returned to Manhattan for her new husband to finish up his last year of 
his college education. The young couple moved to Claflin where they 
started a family. Robert and Berdetta divorced twenty three years later.
 Berdetta stayed in Claflin to raise her children and live her life. 
Berdetta was an avid reader and was active in Independence Township 
Public Library serving on the board for two terms. Berdetta was active 
in the Methodist Women's organization. She loved to sew and her favorite
 sewing projects was making costumes for Cabbage Patch Dolls for her 
friends grandchildren. Berdetta doted on her one grandchild treating him
 like he was a little prince.

Berdetta is survived by her children, Laurie Branan of Independence, 
MO, Thomas Branan of Claflin, KS, and James Branan of Hutchinson, KS; a 
grandson, Dexter Branan and wife Olive; and great grandchild David. 
Preceding her in death are her parents, Everitt and Burnettie Burkhead; 
her first born baby boy Branan; two sisters Joan Apple, and Ihla Miller;
 and a brother, Melvin Burkhead.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
services are pending and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of 
flowers, memorials are suggested to the Independent Township Public 
Library, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Saundra L. Olson, 57, died  Sunday April 12, 2020, at her home in 
Dighton, Kansas.  Sandy was born February 27, 1963, in Johnson, Kansas,&nbsp; the daughter of Bill and Alice (Mohr) Scheferkort.


Sandy lived in Johnson and Ulysses before moving to Scott City and then 
to Dighton in 2014. She enjoyed anything arts and crafts and loved 
painting trinkets and figurines.


Survivors include her Children- Matt Scheferkort, Luke Yousey, and 
Natasha Bennett, Grandchildren- Sophie, Keith, Dakota, Isaac, and 
Coleson. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.

Charity Pearl Brown passed away in Woodston, Kansas on April 9, 2020, at
 the age of 36. She was born in Colby, Kansas to Richard Drullinger, Sr.
 and Leona (Blair) Drullinger on July 30, 1983.


Charity grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska until high school when the 
family moved to McCook, Nebraska. She finished her GED while in McCook 
and went on to receive training as a Certified Nursing Assistant and a 
Med-Aide. Charity worked for a traveling agency that hired out CNAs and 
Med-Aides around Nebraska. She was a mother to six children: Dakota, 
JaeLynn, Bryce, Michaela, Logan, and Breanna; and to a step-daughter, 
Elayna.


Charity was so full of life, outspoken and honest to a fault. She 
had an infectious and strong personality that rubbed off on everyone she
 met. She shared her strength and wisdom with those who needed it and 
never stopped fighting for the things she wanted in life. She was 
interested in legal research, crafts, and décor. Charity was passionate 
about her Native American heritage. She will forever be remembered as 
putting her kids first, being proud of her kids, and doing anything she 
could to provide a better life for them.


Charity is survived by her mother, Leona Drullinger of McCook; 
children, Dakota Drullinger of McCook, JaeLynn (Peyton) Wayman of 
Bartley, NE, Bryce Shafer of McCook, Michael Brown of Woodston, Logan 
Brown of Woodston, Breanna Brown of Woodston, and step-daughter, Elayna 
Herbel of Woodston; siblings, Richard (Tamara) Drullinger, Jr. of

(Kyle) Blackman of McCook; grandpa, Lewis “Roy” Drullinger of Woodston;

Joseph Wasinger, age 90, died peacefully on April 12, 2020 in Arvada, Colorado.&nbsp;

Joseph was born March 1, 1930, in Hays, Kansas, the son of  the late Martin and Mary Wasinger. 

Joseph is survived by four children 
including two daughters, Sheryl and Joann; two sons, Mark and Greg; four
 grandchildren: Amy, Jared, Easton, and Mary and one great-grandchild: 
Alyson.

A talented athlete in high school, Joseph
 attended Fort Hays State University on a football scholarship. It was there 
he met his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Ann. Joseph served in the 
United States Army during the Korean War.  

In 1955, he and Mary Ann moved to Denver,
 CO where Joseph began his career in the Steel Industry.  He worked many
 years as a Sales Manager. After retirement, he and Mary Ann moved to 
Sun City West, AZ and enjoyed 20 wonderful years there together. He 
loved the desert climate and always liked to say “another great day in 
the desert!”  He enjoyed fishing and golfing and “going up the river” to
 his favorite casino. He loved watching sports in his spare time.  After
 Mary Ann passed away in 2018, Joseph moved to Colorado to live with his
 children.

Joseph Wasinger

Fay Darlene Foos, age 94, passed away at her home in Wichita on April
 12, 2020. She was born on August 22, 1925 in Lucas, Kansas the daughter
 of Charles and Lydia Heinze Votruba.

Fay married Lee Dale Foos on September 12, 1948 in Hays, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 13, 1999.

She is survived by her son, Blake Foos and his wife, Karen; her 
daughter Charissa Roots; her sister Delores Pack; three grandchildren 
and two great grandchildren.&nbsp; Fay was preceded in death by her parents, 
husband, and her son-in-law, Ron Roots.

Graveside services are planned for Saturday, April 18, 2020,1:30 p.m. at Bazine Cemetery, Bazine, Kansas.

Joan Luella Brown, 66, passed away April 11, 2020, at Promise Skilled
 Nursing, Overland Park. She was born on September 20, 1953, at Great 
Bend, to Malvern &amp; Evelyn (Burhenn) Schartz. She married William 
Gary Brown on December 27, 1971, at Ellinwood. He survives.

A Raymond resident for 41 years, Joan was a medical aide at Woodhaven
 Care Center, Ellinwood. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church 
in Ellinwood. Joan enjoyed decorating, shopping and gardening, but 
especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include, her husband, William Gary Brown of the home; a 
son, Travis Brown and wife Heather of Slovan, Pa.; a daughter, Jennifer 
Mantz and husband Dean of Little River; two sisters, Darlene Jenisch and
 Karen Jameson; and three grandchildren, Raegan Mantz, Dalton Mantz, and
 Creighton Mantz. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, 
Alvin Schartz; and a sister, Connie Grossardt.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2020,
 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
 A private family funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, April

Joan Luella Brown

W. Jerome "Rudy" Rudolph, son of Floyd and Freda (Lehman) Rudolph, was born January 3, 1933, in Smith Center, Kansas, and went to be with his heavenly father on April 13, 2020, at the Bertrand Nursing and Assisted Living Facility in Bertrand, Nebraska, at the age of 87.

Jerome grew up in Smith County and graduated from high school.  He also served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army.  On October 25, 1959, Jerome and Leeta Lou Sears were united in marriage in Norton, Kansas.  They were blessed with 10 children.  They made their home in Norton until 1970, when they moved their family to Calvert.  Jerome was a mason by trade for 50 years and his exceptional work can be seen all over the area.  He took great pride in his work, much of which is in and on homes in the Norton area. 

Jerome was a member of the Crossroads Church (formerly Full Gospel Community Church) in Norton.  Jerome was very active in the church where he served as Deacon/Elder, song leader, and taught Sunday School for many years.  He was also known to fill in for the pastor on occasion.  He deeply loved God and his family.  Jerome was also a member of the Gideon's and the Bricklayers Union.  Jerome was an avid hunter.  Nothing made him happier than to go hunting with his brothers and sons.  He also loved watching sports on TV and going to see his grandchildren's games.

Survivors include:  his 10 children, JoAnn (Wayne) Rupke, Prairie View, Kansas; Gene (Bill) Blair, Salina, Kansas; Erika (Marty) Borquez, Brighton, Colorado; Claudette (Leo) Graham, Long Island, Kansas; Kerry (Bev) Rudolph, Prairie View, Kansas; Jane (Chris) Noel, Norton, Kansas; Jeff (Charlene) Rudolph, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Dena (Mark) Estes, Glendale, Oregon; Donna Jones, Lenexa, Kansas; and Danice (Brett) Hinson, Bertrand, Nebraska;  two brothers, Larry (Willa) Rudolph, Arkansas City, Kansas; and Kelly Rudolph, Salina, Kansas; one brother-in-law, Keith (Betty) Sears, Smith Center, Kansas; one sister, Colleen Ryan, Smith Center, Kansas;  three sisters-in-law, Shirley Rudolph, Mankato, Kansas; Pam Rudolph, Troy, Illinois; and Melba Lister, Beloit, Kansas; 27 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leeta, of 46 years, two brothers, Billy and Floyd, Jr., two sisters, Donna Rudolph and Phyllis Bargman, two brothers-in-law, Fredrick Bargman and Bill Ryan, one sister-in-law, Connie Rudolph, and two sons-in-law, Barry Jones and Tony Shocinski, and numerous siblings of his wife.

Burial will take place in the Cedar Cemetery in Cedar, Kansas, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date at the Crossroads Church in Norton, Kansas. Kevin John Urban, 56, was called to a better life April 14, 2020 at 
Wheatland Nursing Center, in Russell, Kansas. He was born November 25, 
1963, in Hoisington, KS, the son of Julius and Ann (Tinkel) Urban.

Unfortunately, Kevin faced many challenges in his life, suffering a 
devastating car accident at 18 and serious physical and property damage 
in 2001’s tornado. While Kevin will be missed deeply, he will be 
remembered by his family and friends as the fun-loving teenager who 
loved to play pool and listen to rock 'n' roll music.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by: his 
brother, Tom (Barbara) Urban; two sisters, Patty (Duane) Polzin and 
Geneva (Dennis) Applebee; eight nieces and nephews, Travis Urban, 
Timothy Urban, Tiffany Urban, Tanner Polzin, Turner Polzin, Ryan 
Applebee, Tucker Applebee, and Jalisa Applebee; and nine grandnieces and
 grandnephews.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Hoisington, Kansas.

Kevin John Urban

Wayne Edward Windholz, 72, of Victoria, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2020, at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Wayne was born October 20, 1947, in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He was the first of two sons born to Edward and Virginia (Weigel) Windholz.&nbsp; He grew up in the Gorham area and graduated from Gorham High School, Class of 1965.

Wayne was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, enlisting in 1966.&nbsp; He served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the 27th Artillery Unit, reaching the rank of SP5.&nbsp; Upon completion of his service, he returned home to Gorham in 1969.&nbsp; He attended Ft. Hays State University and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1972.

Wayne was united in marriage to Carolyn Ann Werth on June 8, 1970, in Schoenchen, Kansas.&nbsp; This union was blessed with five children; Rachelle, Jeffrey, Cory, Jessica and Justin.&nbsp; They made their home in the Hays and Russell areas.

Wayne was the epitome of entrepreneurial spirit.&nbsp; He enjoyed the challenge of creating new businesses and developing ideas.&nbsp; As an independent businessman he was involved in starting numerous small businesses in the Russell and Hays areas, including T&amp;W Convenience Store, Showcase Jewelers, and 8th Street Autos, to name a few.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gorham, and the Russell Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; He was a life member of Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, a life member of the Russell American Legion Post #99, and the Hays VVA (Vietnam Veterans of America) #939. He enjoyed outdoor activities with his family, especially fishing and Lake Wilson camping.&nbsp; He never passed up the opportunity for conversation and made friends wherever he went. &nbsp;

Wayne was a very loving and generous father and grandfather.&nbsp; His surviving family include his cherished wife of 49 years, Carolyn of the home; two daughters, Rachelle Windholz (John Hobson) of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Jessica Phoenix of Lawrence, Kansas; three sons, Jeffrey Windholz of Russell, Kansas, Cory Windholz (Myka Small) of Lawrence, Kansas and Justin Windholz of Kansas City, Kansas; brother, Kenny Windholz (Natalie) of Gorham, KS; step-father, Raymond Herrman (Katie) of Russell, Kansas; step-brother, Kevin Herrman (Marlene) of Abilene, Kansas; four step-sisters, Lois Koerner (Dale) of Lawrence, Kansas, Chris Heit (Jerry) of Overland Park, Kansas, Lynette Herrman of Lawrence, Kansas and Colleen Kasson (Stu) of Liberty, Missouri; and eight grandchildren, Kent Windholz, Alex Windholz, Jacob Windholz, Townes Windholz, Wyle Windholz, Sorsza Small, Noah Farmer and Jonah Windholz; countless nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and his devoted pet, Lizzy.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.

Due to restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, private gravesite services will be held.&nbsp; A memorial Mass and joyful celebration of life will be held at a later date.&nbsp; Memorials have been established with Gorham’s St. Mary’s Church, The Vietnam Veterans of America #939 and The Wayne Windholz Memorial Flag Fund, to provide continuous upkeep of the giant Community Flag which he installed at the intersection of US HWY 40 and 281 in 1990.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.

He enjoyed outdoor activities with his family, especially fishing and Lake Wilson camping.&nbsp; He never passed up the opportunity for conversation and made friends wherever he went. &nbsp;Wayne was a very loving and generous father and grandfather.&nbsp; His surviving family include his cherished wife of 49 years, Carolyn of the home; two daughters, Rachelle Windholz (John Hobson) of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Jessica Phoenix of Lawrence, Kansas; three sons, Jeffrey Windholz of Russell, Kansas, Cory Windholz (Myka Small) of Lawrence, Kansas and Justin Windholz of Kansas City, Kansas; brother, Kenny Windholz (Natalie) of Gorham, KS; step-father, Raymond Herrman (Katie) of Russell, Kansas; step-brother, Kevin Herrman (Marlene) of Abilene, Kansas; four step-sisters, Lois Koerner (Dale) of Lawrence, Kansas, Chris Heit (Jerry) of Overland Park, Kansas, Lynette Herrman of Lawrence, Kansas and Colleen Kasson (Stu) of Liberty, Missouri; and eight grandchildren, Kent Windholz, Alex Windholz, Jacob Windholz, Townes Windholz, Wyle Windholz, Sorsza Small, Noah Farmer and Jonah Windholz; countless nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and his devoted pet, Lizzy.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.Due to restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, private gravesite services will be held.&nbsp; A memorial Mass and joyful celebration of life will be held at a later date.&nbsp; Memorials have been established with Gorham’s St. Mary’s Church, The Vietnam Veterans of America #939 and The Wayne Windholz Memorial Flag Fund, to provide continuous upkeep of the giant Community Flag which he installed at the intersection of US HWY 40 and 281 in 1990.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Wayne E. Windholz

Ruthann Tullis, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away on April 13, 2020 at 
Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas, at the age of 53. She was born on 
October 5, 1966 to James and Jacqueline (Liston) Tullis in Pontiac, 
Illinois. Ruthann grew up in Illinois until her family moved to Palco, 
Kansas where she graduated from Palco High school with the class of 
1984. She then attended college at McPherson College and graduated with a
 Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, and Economics with the class
 of 1988.


Following Ruthann’s graduation from college, she moved back to the 
Rooks County area to be with her family and worked in Hays. She ended 
her career as office manager of Hays Auto. She was passionate about her 
Breyer Horse Collection and her love for her horses and dogs. She 
enjoyed listening to music, going on trips to different zoos, attending 
rodeos, museums, and anything with American history. She was bright, 
smart, and inquisitive. She cherished the times with her family and 
adored her niece and nephew.


Ruthann is survived by her parents, James and Jacque Tullis of 
Plainville, Kansas; siblings, Peggy (Scott) Abbott of Wayne City, IL, 
and Cathy Tullis-Park of Olney, IL; niece and nephew, Jacob Abbott and 
Gemma Tennyson; and great-nephew, Jesse Abbott.


She is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, David Park.


A private family service back in Illinois has been chosen.

Vivian Delores (Maffitt) Bickerstaff of Wilson, formerly of Savannah, 
MO, went to be in the arms of the Lord on April 13, 2020, at the age of 
78. She was born on July 7, 1941 to Donald and Marietta Irene (Mitchell)
 Maffitt in Graham, MO.


Vivian received her nursing degree in 1962 from Methodist Hospital 
and Medical Center School of Nursing in St. Joseph, MO. She worked as an
 RN at Heartland Health working in Labor, Delivery, and Nursery. She was
 a woman of Christian faith and cared more for others than herself as 
evidenced by her profession from which she retired. 


Vivian is survived by two children, Lori (Keith) Speer, and Bruce 
(Alyssa) Bickerstaff II; 6 grandchildren, Alex, Bruce III “Trey”, 
Quintin, Alissa, Lillian, and Hosanna; one great-grandchild, Hazel; and 
sisters, Donna Maffitt and Pamela (Dave) Sorenson, both of Missouri.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Irene; 
daughters, Sherri Laney &amp; Patricia Bickerstaff; and brother, C.C. 
Maffitt.

Merlene E. (Hopkins) Doll was called home by her Lord and Savior, 
Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Olathe Health Hospice House, Olathe, KS.

Merlene was born March 25, 1929, to Lee and Bessie (Ledbetter) 
Hopkins in West Plains, Missouri. She was the youngest of four children 
and spent her early years in West Plains, MO, and Burtton, KS, before 
moving to Claflin where she attended elementary school and Claflin High 
School, graduating valedictorian of her class.

She married Edward Doll on April 26, 1948 at Immaculate Conception 
Catholic Church, Claflin, KS. Unto that union three children were born. 
She was a homemaker and farm wife well known for her good cooking and 
outstanding homemade pies. She was a devout Catholic and member of 
Immaculate Conception Church and Altar Society. She was an avid 
seamstress and quilter contributing to the design and making of the 
Altar Society’s annual “Church Quilt”. She loved a good game of cards 
and league bowling with the ladies.

Merlene is survived by her children: Douglas (May, Joplin, MO; 
Allen, Olathe, KS and Jean (Rex) Hughes, Golden, CO; a brother, Vernice 
Hopkins, Overland Park, KS; seven grandchildren, three 
step-grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Merlene was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents, Lee 
and Bessie Hopkins; sister, Eunice Lanphier; brother, JP Hopkins.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, a celebration of life service has been 
postponed until a later date. There will be a private graveside service 
officiated by Father Terrance Klein and burial at Claflin, Pleasant View
 Cemetery.
