Gwendolyn Joy Cook, 83, passed away March 9, 2020, at the University 
of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus. She was born on July 23, 
1936, at Portis, Kan., to Frank &amp; Reta (Wolters) Bihlmaier. She 
married Ithel Doyle Cook on August 1, 1954 at Harlen, Kan. He died April
 17, 2018.A long time Great Bend resident, Gwen previously 
worked for Colonial Savings, Landmark Bank and American State Bank in 
Great Bend. She loved the outdoors and spending time with her family, 
especially the grandkids. 

Survivors include, two daughters, Jana Murray and husband Tom, and 
Sheryl Mauler, all of Great Bend; a son-in-law, Dallas Dobbs; nine 
grandchildren, Ashley Orewiler and husband Scott, Susan Bonczyk and 
husband CJ, Haley Dobbs, Jessica Dobbs, Caitlyn Johnson and husband 
Kyle, Brandon Mauler and wife Mindy, Rebecca Karlin and husband Matt, 
Trenton Mauler and wife Chelsea, and McKenna Mauler; and six great 
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, I.
 Doyle Cook; two daughters, Susan Cook, and Rhonda Dobbs; and a brother 
Gene Bihlmaier.

Bonita “Bonnie” Catherine (Heim) Lager died on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at the Sheridan County Health Complex in Hoxie.


Bonnie was born on July 8, 1929, at the Hays hospital to Bill and Marie 
(Mannebach) Heim. The family lived in Leoville, KS and it was there that
 she met her husband, Alfred “Bud” at a local dance. Bud and Bonnie 
married on August 23, 1950. Together, they were dairy farmers, living 
north of Grinnell before moving into Grinnell in 1997.


Bonnie was an avid collector of glassware. She also loved to meet and 
talk with people, so she took up selling Beeline clothing, Bestline 
cleaning products, Tri-Chem liquid embroidery, and her favorite, Avon 
beauty products. Thursday night bingo, a regular card game of pitch or 
pinochle, and an occasional trip to the casino were great enjoyments for
 Bonnie. Often, Bud and Bonnie could be seen at local polka dances.


Bonnie was an active member of Altar societies at both Immaculate 
Conception parish in Grinnell and St. Paul’s parish in Angelus. She was a
 Daughter of Isabella at St. Paul’s Church in Angelus also.


Bonnie is survived by her husband, Bud; sons, Ron and his wife Linda, of
 Grinnell, KS, Father John, of Denver, CO and Mark, of Ventura, CA; her 
sister Mary Heim Niblock and her husband Don, of Hoxie, KS; brothers, 
Joe and his wife Sharron, of Indianapolis, IN, Bill and his wife Grace, 
of San Diego, CA, Don, of Phoenix, AZ and Gerald and his wife Helen, of 
Hoxie; grandchildren, Julie (Chris) Ribardo, of Bryan, TX, Brenda, of 
Hays, KS, Nate (Kelly, of Wichita, KS, Father Brian, of Hays, KS, Kevin
 (Melanie, of Seguin, KS, Marty (Abbie, of Colby, KS, and Austin, of 
Atchison, KS, and 15 great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Eileen; brothers, Jim 
and Jerome; her daughter Shirley and husband Joe; granddaughters, Annie 
and Jennie; her infant sons Kevin, Michael and Joseph; 
granddaughter-in-law, Hannah and great-grandson Matthias. 


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
 at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center in Grinnell, followed by a 
Vigil at 7:00. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2020

Bonita C. Lager (Heim

Margaret Rosamary Sheets, age 92, went to be with her Lord &amp; Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, March 8, 2020.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Rosamary was born July 23, 1927 in Larned, Kansas, the daughter of Herb J. &amp; Eula May (Sipple) Barr.  She was a 1945 graduate of Wichita County High School in Leoti, Kansas and later from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, then attending Kansas State University.

She married the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Sheets on February 12, 1950 in Leoti, Kansas.  They were blessed with seventy wonderful years of marriage.  They have four children, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Rosamary &amp; Dick began their life together in Westcliffe, Colorado, which was always dear to their hearts.  They moved to Leoti, Kansas in 1951. 

Rosamary was a member of Christ Covenant Church in Leoti, Kansas.

Rosamary enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bridge, and being outdoors.  She especially loved spending time with her family.

Rosamary is survived by her beloved husband, Dick Sheets of Lakin, Kansas; four children including Scott Sheets and his wife Vicki of Brewster, Kansas, Becky Miller and her husband Richard of Leoti, Kansas, Peggy Wolken &amp; her husband Dan of Siloam Springs, Arkansas and Ted Sheets &amp; his wife Brenda of Poteau, Oklahoma.

Grandchildren – Sondra Brown, Beau Sheets, Tad Sheets, Drew Miller, Lindsey Miller, Jessica Wolken, Spenser Wolken, Colton Sheets, and Lucas Sheets.

Great grandchildren- Jalee, Macee &amp; Blaine Brown; Kamdyn, Ty, Clay, Kynnedy &amp; Karsyn Sheets; Emma, Kate, Luke &amp; James Miller and a brother- Ken Barr of Denver, Colorado as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Her parents, and two brothers Jack Barr &amp; Bill Barr precede her in death.

Ruth Zbinden, daughter of Edwin and Mildred (Hagler) Zimmerman, was born January 17, 1938, in Bond County, Illinois, and passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on March 7, 2020, at the age of 82.

Ruth grew up in Illinois, and graduated from Pocahontas High School.  On June 23, 1956, Ruth and David Zbinden were united in marriage in Illinois.  They lived in Highland, Illinois, until 1973, when they moved to eastern Colorado, and then Ft. Collins in 1977.  While in Colorado, she worked in the health industry as a home health aide and as a scheduling supervisor in a nursing home.  In 2002, they moved to Stamford, Nebraska, where she served as a cook in the Southern Valley schools until her retirement.

Ruth enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, camping and spending time at garage sales on weekends.

Survivors include:  her loving husband, David, Norton; her daughter, Denise Zbinden and significant other, Dr. Mark Klein, Norton; one brother, Clarence Zimmerman, Greenville, Illinois; two sisters, Ruby Jorgenson, Edwardsville, Illinois; Mary Boufford, Janesville, Wisconsin; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Dawane, and one sister, Barbara Stein.

Cristal R. Youtsey, 58, passed away March 9, 2020 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born August 29, 1961 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Ray and Deanna Close Youtsey.

A longtime area resident, she worked for QS Nursing as an LPN. She was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include: two daughters, Shanna Bowen, Larned, Emily Bowen, 
Kanopolis; son Sean Bowen, Larned; sister, Elizabeth Close, Missouri; 
brother, Jeff Youtsey, Reno Nevada; and seven grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

Joyce Ann Scott, 76, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020 at her residence.

Joyce was born on December 7, 1943.&nbsp; She grew up in Yonkers, New York.&nbsp; She moved to the Waldo, Kansas area in 1973.

Joyce was united in marriage to John Allen Scott on December 14, 1973 in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; They made their home in Bunker Hill.

Joyce has been a waitress most of her life.&nbsp; She worked over 35 years at the Bunker Hill Café and also worked many years with the Ramada Inn in Russell.&nbsp; She was an active member and Board member of the Assembly of God, Calvary Chapel in Russell.&nbsp; In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, croqueting items for family and friends and helping children in the foster child program.&nbsp; She loved spending time and taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joyce’s surviving family include her two sons, George Moresco (Amy) of Russell, Kansas and Michael Moresco of Salina, Kansas; two step sons, Ron Scott of Bunker Hill, Kansas and Jim Scott of Susank, Kansas; two step daughters, Janet Stafford (Tom) of Wisconsin and Devery Brafford of Kansas City, Missouri; brother, Tom Buzzell of Wichita, Kansas; sister, JoAnn Trapanese of Lake Placid, New York; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and nephew, Tom Buzzell, Jr. of Waldo, Kansas.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Helen.

Joyce Ann Scott

Marvin Gene Pinkston, 87, died on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Legend at 
Regent Park in Wichita.  He was born on June 22, 1932 at Healy the son 
of Lawson Harry &amp; Clara Mae (Schwindt) Pinkston.  He married Wanda 
Jean Foshee on September 19, 1953 at San Francisco, California.


Marvin went to early school in Healy and graduated from Dighton High 
School in 1950.  He served in the United States Marine Corp and after 
his discharge he returned to the family farm near Dighton and was a 
lifelong Farmer-Stockman.  He was active in the Dighton community by 
serving on the soil conservation board, Dighton Housing Authority Board,
 Dighton Recreation Commission Board, County Director for Kansas 
Livestock Association and spent many years on the American Legion Post #
 190 funeral honor guard.  He was a huge sports fan and was a fixture on
 the chains for Dighton High School football, watched every Kansas City 
Royals game and every KU Basketball game.  He attended the Big 8, later 
the Big 12 Basketball Tournament in Kansas City for many years.  He 
loved to fish and hunt and for many years led pheasant hunts on his 
farm.  He especially enjoyed checking on his cattle at the area 
feedyards.  


He was preceded in death by his Parents and  Sister- Juanita Overfield 


He is survived by his Wife- Wanda Pinkston, 2 Daughters- Sherrie 
(Larren) Dennis of Eureka, Terri (Steve) Kingsley of Sedgwick, Son- Gary
 (LaRae) Pinkston of Mitchellville, Iowa, Sister- Bonnie (Larry) Evans 
of Gove,  8 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren.


Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday at the United Methodist 
Church in Dighton with Rev Berniece Ludlum officiating.  Burial will be 
in Dighton Memorial Cemetery with military honors by United States 
Marine Corp Honor Guard and American Legion Post # 190 Honor Guard.

 </figure>Marvin Gene Pinkston, 87, died on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Legend at 
Regent Park in Wichita. He was born on June 22, 1932 at Healy the son 
of Lawson Harry &amp; Clara Mae (Schwindt) Pinkston. He married Wanda 
Jean Foshee on September 19, 1953 at San Francisco, California.
Marvin went to early school in Healy and graduated from Dighton High 
School in 1950. He served in the United States Marine Corp and after 
his discharge he returned to the family farm near Dighton and was a 
lifelong Farmer-Stockman. He was active in the Dighton community by 
serving on the soil conservation board, Dighton Housing Authority Board,
 Dighton Recreation Commission Board, County Director for Kansas 
Livestock Association and spent many years on the American Legion Post #
 190 funeral honor guard. He was a huge sports fan and was a fixture on
 the chains for Dighton High School football, watched every Kansas City 
Royals game and every KU Basketball game. He attended the Big 8, later 
the Big 12 Basketball Tournament in Kansas City for many years. He 
loved to fish and hunt and for many years led pheasant hunts on his 
farm. He especially enjoyed checking on his cattle at the area 
feedyards. 
He was preceded in death by his Parents and Sister- Juanita Overfield 
He is survived by his Wife- Wanda Pinkston, 2 Daughters- Sherrie 
(Larren) Dennis of Eureka, Terri (Steve) Kingsley of Sedgwick, Son- Gary
 (LaRae) Pinkston of Mitchellville, Iowa, Sister- Bonnie (Larry) Evans 
of Gove, 8 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday at the United Methodist 
Church in Dighton with Rev Berniece Ludlum officiating. Burial will be 
in Dighton Memorial Cemetery with military honors by United States 
Marine Corp Honor Guard and American Legion Post # 190 Honor Guard. 
Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church or American Legion 
Post # 190 Honor Guard in care of Boomhower Funeral Home. Friends may 
call from Noon to 8:00 PM Friday with family present from 6:30 to 7:30

Raymond Lynn (Ray) Tubach, 69, passed away on February 25, 2020, at 
his home in Larned, Kansas. He was born January 25, 1951, in Glasco, 
Kansas, the son of August and Nellie (Rogers) Tubach.

Ray graduated from Glasco Rural High School in 1970 and later from 
Wichita State University with a degree in Administrative Justice. He 
served in the U.S. Army, where he achieved a rank of SP5, and he was a 
Vietnam veteran. Ray spent most of his professional life as a mental 
health developmental disabilities technician at Larned State Hospital 
and retired from there in September 2011.

Ray enjoyed visiting family and returning to Glasco for high school reunions; this year would have been his 50th
 reunion. He had a strong interest in current events and spent 
considerable time in the library reading news. He delighted in 
discussions about politics and other topics.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: his 
brothers, Lemoine (Lee)and Clyde Tubach, and his sisters, Elaine Dunlap 
and Cora O’Rourke. He is survived by his sister, Freda Saiger of Topeka,
 Kansas; brother-in-law, Joe O’Rourke of Iola, Kansas; sister-in-law, 
Mary Jo Tubach of Emporia, Kansas; and nephews and nieces.

Ray was cremated and will be interred in the Glasco Cemetery. A 
private family memorial service is being planned for a later date.

John Delevan "Del" Bauer, 70, of Hutchinson, died March 2, 2020, at 
Robert Dole Veterans Hospital, Wichita. He was born November 29, 1949, 
in Ransom, to John and Josephine (Schwartzkopf) Bauer.

John graduated from Ransom High School in 1967. He was a master of 
many trades, including: plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, mechanics, and 
farming. John was a member of Communities That Care, Watch D.O.G.S., VFW
 Post #1361, and American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68.

On March 11, 1972, he married Patricia McMillan, in Dodge City. They 
shared 43 years together before she passed on March 14, 2015.

John is survived by: son, James Sharp, Ness City; daughters, Barbara 
Clark (Raymond, Cimarron, Victoria Bauer and Kathrine Baker (Logan, 
both of Hutchinson; sisters, Lynetta Skaggs, Sylvia Bauer, Judy Lee, 
Linda Ummel, Ruth Bauer, Juanita Ottley, and Beatrice Bauer; brothers, 
Mark Bauer and Jacob Bauer; grandchildren, Breckon (Kelly) Bauer, 
Brianna Hayes, Brooklyn Hayes, Johnathan Bauer, Nevaeh Baker, Clayton 
Baker, and Isabella Baker; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Bauer, Drew 
Bauer, Alexiz Jaso, and Adrian Hayes.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Patricia Bauer; infant daughter, Lisa Sharp; and sister, Carole Wolfe.

Robert L. “Bob” Stejskal, 72, Russell, Kansas, died Friday, March 6, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.



Bob was born June 28, 1947, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Lester M. 
and Minnie (Schaffer) Stejskal.  He was a resident of Russell, Kansas, 
for 19 years, moving from La Crosse, Kansas.   A 1966 graduate of La 
Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, he attended Brown Mackie College,
 Salina, Kansas.  Bob worked in the oil industry.  The last 19 years 
before his retirement, he worked for AnswerNet, Hays, Kansas.



He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and Knights Of 
Columbus Council #2970, both of La Crosse, Kansas.  He was a lifetime 
member of VFW Post 3147, La Crosse, Kansas.



He was a veteran of the United States Navy.  Bob was stationed on the 
USS Enterprise, the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.



On March 19, 2012, he married Sue Peterson at Russell, Kansas. 



Survivors include:  his wife, Sue Stejskal, Russell, Kansas; one son, 
Jason Stejskal (fiancée, Rayla Redmon, Hays, Kansas; one step son, Doug
 Peterson (Aimee, Sterling, Kansas; two step daughters, Shannon 
Thornburg (Jeff, Russell, Kansas, and Amy Peterson, Hays, Kansas; one 
grandson, Dylan Stejskal, Hays, Kansas; eight step grandchildren; and 
two step great grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

Francis Floriene Whisnant, 97, of Colby, passed away on March 5, 2020. 


Floriene was born on August 11, 1922, in Wellsville, Kansas, to Frank O. 
Raley Sr. and Mary Jane (Baldwin) Raley. While living in Hamilton 
County, Kansas, she witnessed the dirty-thirties and had dust pneumonia 
for two successive years. The doctor told her parents her heart would 
not stand another winter of dust – she proved him wrong. The family 
moved back to eastern Kansas to the Bush City area and she completed 
high school in Kincaid, KS. In the fall of 1940, Floriene entered nurses
 training in Chanute and graduated in 1942. While in nurses training, 
she met a student pilot, Harley W. Whisnant and they were married on 
November 25, 1942. To this union four children were born, Gary, Anita, 
Marlene and Pamela. Harley and Floriene made their home in Goodland and 
while there, her nursing skills were utilized by working at Boothroy 
Hospital, the Good Samaritan Center, nurse for Dr. William Madden’s 
practice and part-time for Dr. W.A. Smiley. She was also a Public Health
 Nurse and Migrant Health Nurse for the State of Kansas. She was a part 
of the pilot project for the WIC food program. Sometime in the 80’s, she
 decided she would retire but then returned doing chart work for 
Connie’s Home Health Agency. In 1992, she was named as a Red Cross 
nurse. Floriene was active in the Methodist Church, teaching Sunday 
school, was a Den Mother and later in life volunteered for the Heartland
 Share Food Program. She also was a Life Member of the VFW Ladies 
Auxiliary, giving many years of service to this organization, receiving 
her 65 year pin in 2019. Harley and Floriene were married 56 years 
before his death in 1999, and in 2004 Floriene moved to Colby to be 
closer to family. She loved caring for grandchildren and great 
grandchildren and attending their events.


Floriene is survived by her children, Gary (Rosa, Brewster, KS, Anita 
(Dan) Washburn, Ponder, TX, Marlene (Mike) Potter, Guymon, OK and Pam 
(Dewey) Augustine, Coby, KS; grandchildren, Jon Whisnant, Matt, Aaron 
and Adrian Washburn, Jeff, Kenneth and Kevin Potter, Dana Bolyard and 
Matt Augustine; step-grandchildren, Jesse Barrera, Israel Hernandez, 
Reina Barrera and Jacob Falcon; 18 great grandchildren and 14 step-great
 grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Alfred, George, Frank Raley, Jr and sister Dardanella McMichael.


Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Baalmann Mortuary, 
Colby, with services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2020, also at

Mary Ann (Schuckman) Herl, age 89, died Friday, March 6, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born January 17, 1931, on the farm near Liebenthal, Kansas, to Fred and Anna Loretta (Legleiter) Schuckman.&nbsp; She married Edwin J. Herl on April 26, 1950 at&nbsp; &nbsp; Liebenthal, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on&nbsp; December 10, 1985.

She worker at Skaggs Drug Store, and at St. Anthony Hospital and Hays Medical Center in the dietary department for many years. She attended school in Rush and Ellis counties and was a 1948 graduate from Schoenchen High School.&nbsp; She helped her husband with their farming and ranching operations, and tending her vegetables, flowering gardening and her fruit trees.&nbsp;

Mary Ann enjoyed playing piano, guitar, harmonica, singing, cooking, baking, quilting, and sewing for her family and grandchildren.&nbsp; She was an avid reader, working crossword puzzles, writing poetry and short stories, creating artistic items for craft fairs, and had endless energy and would sometimes stay up all night to keep abreast of the&nbsp; current events.&nbsp;

Mary Ann was a member of the Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Ann Bland and husband, Boyd, Gove, KS., and Sharon Kay Jantz, Denver, CO; three sons, Daniel Herl and wife, Pat, Victoria, KS; Neal Herl and special friend, Elaine Chavez, Wichita, KS; W. Delila “Dee” Faye (Beougher) Powers, age 77, of rural Gove, KS, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Gove County Medical Center, Quinter. 

She was born on February 15, 1943 to C. DeWitt and E. Faye (Gibson) Beougher at the Highpoint Community in rural Logan County, KS. Dee was raised in the Orion community, and would ride her horse Betsy to the Orion and Union grade schools. She later graduated from Gove High School, where she met her future husband, Roger Powers.

Dee and Roger were united in marriage on June 5, 1960 at Oakley Methodist Church, and to this union two girls were born, Holly and Shelly. Throughout her life, she was an integral part of the Powers farm and ranch, as well as working in the district court clerk's office, at the sheriff’s office, and the county clerk's office. Dee was a devout member and a major presence in the Gove Community Bible Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years.&nbsp; She was also very active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship, was the Christian Education Chair, and Success Coffee Fellowship leader. She served on the Gove City library board, the GCIA board, was a former member of the GCMC auxiliary, and was a member of the Pleasant Hour club.&nbsp; Dee enjoyed reading, embroidery and crocheting, as well as word searches and crossword puzzles.

Dee is survived by her husband Roger; daughters Holly Moore (Roger) of Berryton, KS, and Shelly Holaday of Grinnell, KS; grandchildren Jordan Moore of Lawrence, KS, Kaleb Holaday of Gove, and Nicole Holaday of Grinnell; and brother Alan Beougher of Oakley, KS. She was preceded in death by both parents.

Visitation will be Monday, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.

Brennan H. Beedy, age 42, was called away to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in Wichita, Kansas. 

 Brennan was born June 8, 1977, in Tribune, Kansas, the son of Hugh &amp; Elaine (Millirons) Beedy.  Brennan attended elementary school at the Christian Academy in Leoti, Kansas and then transferred to High Plains Elementary to finish grade school.  From there, his Jr. High and High School years were spent as a Wichita County Indian, graduating in 1996.  

Brennan started working for the Tankersley family at age 16, earning his CDL at 18 and began hauling cattle.  He also worked for the Wells family until he was unable to work due to illness in 2011.  Brennan enjoyed playing guitar and offering his comedy by telling quick jokes.  No one could deny his big-hearted friendship and big quirky smile.  In 2011, he moved to Goddard, Kansas and then to Halstead, Kansas to be close to his parents. 

 Brennan had several hobbies, loved all things music, playing piano and his guitar, looking through truck magazines for the latest and greatest.  Hanging out with his family was, by far, his favorite.  He was known to keep up on his new jokes and was always in the mood to tell one if you needed it.  His health had been a challenge for the past nine years, but it didn’t keep him from visiting his family in Hawaii.  His life’s ultimate goal was to make at least one person smile daily.  He never met a stranger and always made room in his life for everyone. 

Brennan is survived by his parents- Hugh &amp; Elaine Beedy of Halstead, Kansas. Two sisters- Amy &amp; Jake Kessler of Leoti, Kansas and FayeLynn &amp; Tim Ferran of Hutchinson, Kansas and many aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces as well as lifelong friends.  

He is preceded in death by his grandparents- Lawrence &amp; Ethel Millirons and H.S. &amp; LaVaughn Beedy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am (MST) Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at the Assembly of God Church in Tribune, Kansas with Pastor Rick Crossette officiating.  Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery in Tribune, Kansas.

Bland, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on July 8, 1934 in Plainville, Kansas, the son of Harley Cecil &amp; Lilly A. Smith.&nbsp; A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1971 moving from Colby, Kansas, he was a technician for KN Energy from 1966 until he retired in 1995.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On July 15, 1963 he married Thelma R. Meis in Plainville, Kansas.&nbsp; She passed away on June 24, 2014 in Colby, Kansas.

Survivors include his Four Sons - Byron Bland of Hays, Kansas, Warren Bland of Scott City, Kansas, Randall &amp; Melissa Bland of Garden City, Kansas, and Ryan &amp; Amanda Bland of Trenton, Nebraska, One Sister - Irma Ewing of Longmont, Colorado, and Five Grandchildren.

Neil was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife - Thelma, and One Sister - Eunice Baham.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas with Fr. Rudin Din presiding.&nbsp;

Kansas passed away Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Trego Lemke Long Term 
Care Center in WaKeeney, Kansas. He was born December 20, 1940 in Hays, 
Kansas to Carl and Bertha (Honas) Flax. On October 9, 1965 he married 
Charlene (Klaus) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, Kansas.

Richard was a farmer and stockman as 
well as a water hauler in the oil fields and a dump truck driver hauling
 millings for highway construction. He was a US Army Veteran and a 
member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. He enjoyed playing cards 
and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene of
 Ellis; three sons, Mark Flax and wife Jackie of Ellis, Gary Flax and 
wife Tricia of Russell and Arlen Flax and wife Rose of Ellis and three 
grandchildren, Jarod Flax of Goodland, Braden Flax of Russell and Emma 
Flax of Ellis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Norma Jean Flax.

Richard C. Flax

James “Jim” D. Steiner, 70, passed away March 3, 2020, at Great Bend 
Health &amp; Rehab, Great Bend. He was born on March 18, 1949, at 
Ellsworth, to Clayton C. &amp; Barbara J. (Foote) Steiner. He lived the 
first five years of his life in Black Wolf, Kan.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, James was a salesman. He was a member
 of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend 
and enjoyed attending Sunday mass at the Dominican convent. He was a 
member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 180.

As a student at St. Patrick’s grade school, he was an altar boy and 
was proud to have served at the ground breaking of St. Patrick’s church,
 along with his brother Dan. He graduated with the Great Bend High 
School Class of 1967. He attended Fort Hays State University and later 
received his Associate’s degree from Barton County Community College. He

Whether hunting a field in Barton County, fishing on a sand bar on 
the Smokey Hill River, or hunting the pools of Cheyenne Bottoms, fishing
 the rocky banks of Lake Wilson, walking the historic beaches of 
Normandy, France, or sipping a Guiness in a pub in Dublin, Jim truly 
enjoyed a great adventure. But Jim was happiest sitting in a lawn chair 
in the driveway with a cooler of Coors or PBR’s lighting fireworks on 
the 4th of July and hanging around the old family haunts of 
Black Wolf, Kansas. He loved to have fun! Fast cars, Kansas State and 
Notre Dame sports, searching for war history on the computer, learning 
about local Kansas history, playing poker, smoking Swisher Sweets, 
camping, hunting and fishing. He was the Scout Master of Troop 157 and 
enjoyed going to Camp Kanza. He loved right wing conservatism and was 
just a big kid at heart.

Survivors include, his mother, Barbara Steiner; a brother, Dan 
Steiner and wife Cathy of Stilwell; two sisters, Susan Steiner of Great 
Bend, and Laurie Cooke and husband Stacey of Junction City; many aunts 
and uncles; four nieces and their families, Tara Terella (Adam) of 
Aurora, Colo., Bethany Cooke (Adam) of Junction City, Katie Kidwell 
(fiancé Justin Lytle) of Junction City, and Briana Talley (Ken) of 
Wichita; two nephews, Ryan Steiner of Overland Park, and Clint Steiner 
(Christi) of Overland Park; his great nieces and nephews, Carson, 
Addison, Grace, Colin, Cooper, Ava, Alyssa, Jack, Jameson, Callen, Cara,
 Lacey, Miles, Aaron, Tatum, Kenny, and baby boy due in June. He was 
preceded in death by his father, Clayton Steiner; grandparents, Thomas 
and Barbara Foote, and Joseph and Doris Steiner; many aunts and uncles; a
 nephew, Clayton Cooke; and a great niece, Kylie Steiner.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m., Sunday, March 8, 2020, at 
Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil Service and Knights of Columbus Rosary 
at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, 
March 9, 2020, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Louis Trung 
Dinh Hoang presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. 
Memorials are suggested to Holy Family School Endowment Fund, Prince of 
Peace Parish or Knights of Columbus, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

 </figure>James “Jim” D. Steiner, 70, passed away March 3, 2020, at Great Bend 
Health &amp; Rehab, Great Bend. He was born on March 18, 1949, at 
Ellsworth, to Clayton C. &amp; Barbara J. (Foote) Steiner. He lived the 
first five years of his life in Black Wolf, Kan.A lifetime Great Bend resident, James was a salesman. He was a member
 of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend 
and enjoyed attending Sunday mass at the Dominican convent. He was a 
member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 180.As a student at St. Patrick’s grade school, he was an altar boy and 
was proud to have served at the ground breaking of St. Patrick’s church,
 along with his brother Dan. He graduated with the Great Bend High 
School Class of 1967. He attended Fort Hays State University and later 
received his Associate’s degree from Barton County Community College. He

James 'Jim' D. Steiner

Vivian Mary Dobey, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 2, 2020 in Columbia, Missouri. She died peacefully that evening with her husband of 65 years, Ronald Dobey, by her side after a long illness. 

Vivian was born on January 17, 1930 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late William Matthew Kane and Mary (Fekete) Kane. 

She is survived by her husband, Ronald John Dobey of Columbia, Missouri, sons Ronald John Dobey, Jr. of Rocheport, Missouri, John Darrell Dobey of Centennial, Colorado and Douglas William Dobey of Richmond, Virginia, daughters-in-law Tarilyn Sue (Starzinger) Dobey of Rocheport, Missouri, Marie Catherine (Cowhick) Dobey of Centennial, Colorado and Liza Corbett of Richmond, Virginia, granddaughters Allison Mary (Roberts) Burrier of Evergreen, Colorado, Erin Claire Dobey of Denver, Colorado and Harper Lee Dobey of Richmond, Virginia, grandsons John Starzinger Dobey and Colin William Dobey of Rocheport, Missouri and brother-in-law Russell Louis Dobey of Wilton, Connecticut. Vivian is also survived by several nieces and nephews including William Matthew Kane III of Grand Junction, Colorado, Breta Claire Kane of Estes Park, Colorado, Mary Kathleen (Kane) Pickering of BelAir, Maryland, Susan Eileen Kane of Centreville, Maryland, John Ernest Kane of Denver, Colorado, Pamela Maren (Dobey) Peters of Pomfret, Connecticut, Laura Kimbel (Dobey) Amicucci of Fairfield, Connecticut and Lisa Marie Dobey of Fairfield, Connecticut and great-granddaughters Margaret Frances and Penelope June Burrier of Evergreen, Colorado. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Helen Dobey of Bridgeport, Connecticut, older brother, William Matthew Kane, Jr. and sister-in-law, Shirley (Steves) Kane of Hays, Kansas sister-in-law Marie Emily (Gobeil) Dobey of Rowayton, Connecticut and by her nephew, Daniel James Kane of Clay Center, Kansas. 

Vivian became a registered nurse after graduating high school from Lauralton Hall in Milford, Connecticut and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford, Connecticut. She held various positions in her life-long profession in Bridgeport, Connecticut until she married Ron. In 1972, Vivian returned to geriatric nursing in Fairfax, Virginia when Ron, Jr. began college and worked as a nurse until her retirement. Vivian met her future husband while working in Bridgeport and they were married on April 24, 1954 at St. John’s Episcopal Church. 

She became active in the altar guild, as an acolyte mother and parish visitor at their church in Virginia which became their home in 1964 and her family’s life was centered by their faith for the remainder of her life. Vivian, having been born to wonderful parents, building a strong, loving marriage, with all the extended families that became part of hers and the friends she made throughout her life, knew how blessed she was and came to realize that the many blessings in her life stemmed from the knowledge that Jesus had died for her sins and earned her a place in heaven. 

Vivian loved her career in nursing and will always be remembered both in her career and her personal life as a very giving person, continually putting the needs of others before her own, making newcomers feel welcome and living a life of service to her family, her friends and her God. During her life, she was an active volunteer both in and outside of the church, serving as a den mother when her sons were in Cub Scouts and supporting their advancement through Boy Scouts, volunteering at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg and at both Truro Episcopal Church and Trinity Episcopal Church, the family’s parish homes in Virginia. She was loved and admired by all whose lives she touched and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

A celebration of Vivian’s life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 3pm at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation by family and friends will be between 1pm and 3pm immediately preceding the service. 

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, friends consider making a memorial contribution in Vivian’s name to Calvary Episcopal Church (123 South Ninth St. Columbia, Missouri 65201) or Trinity Episcopal Church (825 College Ave. Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401). Vivian’s ashes will be placed at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia at a later date.&nbsp;
