Lloyd K. Fouser, age 83, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born December 4, 1936 in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Lloyd L. and Helen M. Case Fouser.&nbsp; A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, he was a Farmer.

Alice&nbsp;M. (Windholz) Staab, age 90, of Hays, Kansas died Tuesday, April 21, 2020,&nbsp;at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born March 2, 1930 to Raymond and Adelaide (Wasinger) 
Windholz in Victoria, Kansas where she lived her entire childhood and 
attended school along with her 10 brothers and sisters.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married 
Robert&nbsp;J. Staab on September 11, 1946 at St. Fidelis Catholic Church in 
Victoria. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2016.

They spent their early years residing in Hays, Omaha, NE and Victoria
 before finally settling in Hays in 1960. She retired from Travenol 
Laboratories in Hays and, along with her husband,&nbsp;owned and operated 
many businesses, including The Blue Sky Tavern, The Cue-Ball, Kent’s 
Cafe and Shelly’s Restaurant, all in Hays. &nbsp;She was a lifelong Catholic,
 a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays and a lifetime member of
 the Daughters of Isabella in Victoria. &nbsp;

Alice was a loving wife and mother who spent years caring for her 
family. She enjoyed&nbsp;ceramics and spent many hours painting her creations
 and perfecting her craft. She loved games and could often be found 
playing cards,&nbsp;Yahtzee&nbsp;and bingo.&nbsp;

Survivors include six sons, Robert Dean Staab and&nbsp;wife, Dorothy, 
Plainville, KS; Willian Staab, Victoria, KS; John Staab and wife, Debby,
 The Villages, FL; Kenneth &nbsp;Staab and wife Connie, David Staab, Randy 
Staab and wife, Paula, all of Hays, KS; &nbsp;one daughter, Sandy Staab, 
Lawrenceville, GA; two sisters-in-law, Millie Hammersmith-Windholz, 
Victoria, KS;&nbsp;Delma Hogue, Omaha, NE; 15 grandchildren; 29 great 
grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and many other extended 
family members.&nbsp; &nbsp;

She was preceded in&nbsp;death by her parents; husband; one son, Terry 
Staab; five brothers, Julius, Sylvester, Alvin, Raymond, Ralph Windholz;
 one infant brother, Anthony Windholz; two sisters, Georgine Wasinger 
and Theresa Wood; two infant sisters, Johanna Marie Windholz and Delores
 Catherine Windholz; one granddaughter, Jessica Staab; one great

Due to the COVID-19, a&nbsp;private&nbsp;family&nbsp;only Mass of Christian Burial

at the Parkview Care Center in Osborne, KS. &nbsp;He was born on August 22, 
1940 to Charles &amp; Frances (Thompson) Cox at Alton, KS. &nbsp;Dee was one 
of several children.

Dee graduated from Alton High School. &nbsp;He enlisted in the United 
States Air Force from 1961-1965. &nbsp;Dee was a member of the American 
Legion and Veteran's of Foreign Wars.

Dee was a farmer. &nbsp;He married Bonnie Lee Heaton and to this union, 3 
children were born. &nbsp;He attended the Alton United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Dee was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Bonnie &nbsp;in 2015.

Dee is survived by a daughter: Christine (Dale) Dvorak of Garden

Beverly June (Simmelink) Remus the daughter of George &amp; Anna 
(Kuiken) Simmelink was born north of Downs, KS on April 9, 1930. &nbsp;She 
peacefully passed away on April 18, 2020 at the Salina Regional 
Hospital, Salina, KS at the age of 90.

Beverly attended Green Valley School &amp;&nbsp;graduated from Downs High 
School in 1948. &nbsp;Beverly worked as a nurse's aide for the hospital in 
Beloit, KS and later was employed as a telephone operator at 
Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Downs, KS.

On June 14, 1949, Beverly was united in marriage to Max D. Remus at 
the Saints&nbsp;Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City, KS. &nbsp;To this 
union, 5 children were born: Pamela Dee, Charles William II, Perry 
Steven, Bradley George and Kelsey Max. &nbsp;The couple resided on a farm 
south of Cawker City until 1967 when they moved to a farm near Osborne, 
KS. &nbsp;It was here that the couple developed a very reputable Clydesdale 
farm named Solomon's Clydesdales. &nbsp;They spent quality time together 
traveling to many states to show &amp; sell their prize-winning 
Clydesdales. &nbsp;In 1977 they retired back to Cawker City. &nbsp;Max &amp; 
Beverly celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in June 1999. &nbsp;Max 
passed away on October 20, 1999.

Beverly lived life to the fullest &amp; was a loving servant &amp; 
devoted member of the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Cawker 
City, KS. &nbsp;She was a faithful member of the Ladies Guild &amp; proud to 
be a Red Hat Lady. &nbsp;Family was Beverly's main passion &amp; she loved to
 visit &amp; call her grandchildren &amp; great-grandchildren often. 
&nbsp;Her fun-loving personality brought many laughs &amp; crazy presents 
that her family will cherish&nbsp;forever.&nbsp; Beverly had a love for flowers 
&amp; friends. &nbsp;She would call upon her friends often &amp; spent many 
hours giving to others. &nbsp;Her ultimate love was perhaps her dog, Chica. 
&nbsp;Chica &amp; Beverly shared a special bond that tied the two of them 
together forever.

Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, husband Max, son 
Bradley, daughter-in-law Twyla (Brummer) Remus, &amp; grandson Kyle.

Frankie L. Lund, 90, formerly of Osborne, KS, passed away on Friday, 
April 17, 2020 at Wellsville Retirement in Wellsville, KS. &nbsp;Frankie was 
born on May 5, 1929 to William H. &amp; Flora (Naylor) &nbsp;Chandler in 
Osborne County, KS.

Frankie graduated from Osborne High School in 1948. &nbsp;She lived most 
her life in Osborne, KS until 2 years ago. &nbsp;At that time she moved to 
Wellsville, KS to be closer to her son.

Frankie married Paul Lund and to this union, 1 son was born. &nbsp;Aside 
from being a homemaker, Frankie was a retail clerk for several different
 local businesses. &nbsp;She was a member of the United Christian Church of 
Osborne, KS.

Frankie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Paul Lund who passed away in 1995.

Frankie is survived by her son, Dan (Sherrie) Lund of Wellsville, KS, 2 grandchildren &amp; 1 great-grandchild.

Dorothy “Dottie” Anna (Dreher) Schmidt, 92, died on April 20, 2020, 
at the University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus. Dorothy 
“Dottie” was born November 19, 1927, in Rush County, to Phillip P. and 
Mary (Herrman) Dreher. She was the third oldest of 7 children. Dorothy 
married Leo J. Schmidt on January 13, 1947, in St. Anthony Catholic 
Church in Schoenchen. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2014.

After her marriage, Dorothy moved to Great Bend, and this is where 
she and Leo raised their family. Faith was a big part of her life; she 
attended services regularly at St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was a 
homemaker, doting on her husband and children. She was a terrific German
 cook, making most things from scratch. Her family loved her homemade 
bierocks, golari, kuchen, pies, and cakes to name a few. She was known 
for making homemade noodles by laying sheets on every flat surface in 
the house and her children helped by running the noodle dough through 
her trusty noodle maker and flipping the noodles while they were drying.
 Dorothy made dozens of cookies each Christmas and her children were 
sent to deliver boxes of cookies to their neighbors. She also canned 
cucumbers, tomatoes, and made homemade jellies.

Dorothy took up golf later in life and enjoyed playing with her 
family and friends. She didn’t hit far, but always straight as an arrow –
 like she lived. She attended hundreds of sporting events, maybe 
thousands. She traveled, visiting her children and took trips with 
friends to see Niagra Falls and other places. She also enjoyed playing 
bingo with her friends and daughters, even taking road trips to

Ariz., Mike Schmidt (Debbie) of Timnath, Colo., Patricia “Trish” Schartz
 of Great Bend (fiancé Nathan McDonald of Ness City, and Joan Barrett 
(Jeff) of Charlotte, NC; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great 
grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and one sister, Almita 
Augustine of Salina. She was preceded in death by her parents; two 
brothers, Julius Dreher, and C.J. Dreher; and three sisters, Alice Orth,
 Thelma Karlin, and Darlene Leiker.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, April 23, 
2020, at Bryant Funeral Home. A private rosary will be held at 9:30 
a.m., Friday, April 24, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with livestream

of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m., with Father Don Bedore

“Dottie” was born November 19, 1927, in Rush County, to Phillip P. and

married Leo J. Schmidt on January 13, 1947, in St. Anthony Catholic 
Church in Schoenchen. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2014.After her marriage, Dorothy moved to Great Bend, and this is where 
she and Leo raised their family. Faith was a big part of her life; she 
attended services regularly at St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was a 
homemaker, doting on her husband and children. She was a terrific German
 cook, making most things from scratch. Her family loved her homemade 
bierocks, golari, kuchen, pies, and cakes to name a few. She was known 
for making homemade noodles by laying sheets on every flat surface in 
the house and her children helped by running the noodle dough through 
her trusty noodle maker and flipping the noodles while they were drying.
 Dorothy made dozens of cookies each Christmas and her children were 
sent to deliver boxes of cookies to their neighbors. She also canned 
cucumbers, tomatoes, and made homemade jellies.Dorothy took up golf later in life and enjoyed playing with her 
family and friends. She didn’t hit far, but always straight as an arrow –
 like she lived. She attended hundreds of sporting events, maybe 
thousands. She traveled, visiting her children and took trips with 
friends to see Niagra Falls and other places. She also enjoyed playing 
bingo with her friends and daughters, even taking road trips to 
Oklahoma. She was proud of her family and all their accomplishments.

Dorothy 'Dottie' Anna (Dreher) Schmidt

Calvin E. Harbin, 104, Hays, passed away on April 19, 2020 at his home in Hays, Kansas.

He was born March 26, 1916 in Puxico, 
Missouri, the son of Samuel and Ada (Shelton) Harbin.&nbsp; Calvin grew up on
 the farm and while in his senior year of high school in 1934, he was a 
substitute teacher for the sixth grade class of Kinder Rural School.&nbsp; He
 also attended Southeast Missouri College at the same time. &nbsp;In 1937, 
Calvin moved to California as a law student, and eventually purchased 
the law firm he was working at from his mentor Judge William S. Marks.&nbsp; 
In July of 1941, Calvin volunteered for military service in the United 
States Army, and was sent to Officer Candidate School.&nbsp; In 1943, he was 
commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and recruited for a special mission 
unit.&nbsp; Starting in 1944, Calvin took seven trips across the Atlantic 
Ocean, and on one of the missions his ship was torpedoed on Thanksgiving
 Day.&nbsp; Luckily he was one of the survivors.&nbsp; On June 26, 1947, he was 
united in marriage to Dorothy Comoh at St. Mary’s Catholic Greek Rite 
Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and they celebrated 66 years of 
marriage before she preceded him in death on June 26, 2013.&nbsp;

Calvin later went on to earn his 
Master’s Degree at Nashville’s Peabody College and his Doctorate at the 
University of Missouri.&nbsp; In 1952, he and his family moved to Hays to 
begin a one-year teaching position at Fort Hays State University, which 
ended up as a 30-year career because he enjoyed both the town and 
university.&nbsp; His career consisted of being the Dean of Education and the
 very first Special Assistant to the President.&nbsp; He took a sabbatical 
leave in 1963, and while on leave at Harvard University, he authored his
 first book, Teaching Power.&nbsp; The publisher deemed it a book of lasting 
value.&nbsp; Calvin retired from Fort Hays State University in 1998, and 
continued serving the Dane G. Hansen Foundation in Logan, where he 
authored his second book, The Grandest Mission on Earth.&nbsp;

Calvin served as a teacher, a law 
counselor, an author of poems, hymns, articles, and books, and retired 
as a Colonel in the United States Army.&nbsp; He enjoyed gardening, kept his 
mind busy and sharp, and will be remembered for helping start the Hays 
Senior Service Center and the Senior Companion Program, but mostly for 
loving his family.&nbsp; He lived for his family and grandchildren, and was 
very proud of the care his son gave him in the later years of his life.

Survivors include a son; Ed Harbin 
(Terri Lenser) of Hays, two daughters; Mary Solecki of Olathe and Ruth 
Harbin Miles (Sam) of Madison, WV, seven grandchildren; Paul Solecki 
(Ankica, Kevin Solecki (Kara, John Solecki (Amy, Patrick Solecki, 
Jeremy Harbin, Jill Davis, and James Harbin (Theresa, and eight great 
grandchildren; Braden Davis, Riley Davis, Logan Calvin Davis, Emily 
Davis, Calvin West Harbin, Colton Harbin, Clara Solecki, and Joseph 
Calvin Solecki.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, his wife; Dorothy, six brothers; James “Jimmy”, George, Joseph,
 Ellis, Wayne, and David Harbin, and two sisters; Ruth Olmstead and Ella
 Robertson.

A private family burial with military 
honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard will be in St. Joseph 
Cemetery.&nbsp; A public celebration of Calvin’s life will be scheduled and

Calvin E. Harbin

Ella Marie Gremmel DuBois, 92, died Saturday, April 18, of 
complications from Covid-19. She was born on September 23, 1927, on a 
farm two miles north of Agra, KS.&nbsp; She was the youngest of William and 
Anna Gremmel’s ten children. Because the farm was so far from town, 
Marie attended ‘country school’ during her elementary years, often 
riding a pony with her brother to the one-room schoolhouse where an 
older sister was the teacher. As the youngest, she was excused from 
field work, instead assigned to dusting furniture, canning and 
preserving fruits and vegetables, as well as tending to the chickens. 
She became known as the family baker, eventually making her own wedding 
cake when she married LeRoy Clyde DuBois, her high school sweetheart, at
 age 19.

After graduating from Agra High School, Ella Marie earned $8 a month 
at her first job in Topeka, and later helped put Lee through college 
following his naval service in WWII. She was the family editor and a 
stickler for proper English and correct punctuation. She had a life-long
 love of anything to do with the medical field, volunteering at The 
Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, AL for many years and earning her 
2000+ hour service pin.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, in May 2016, a few days short of their 70th
 wedding anniversary.&nbsp; Ella Marie and Lee had four children: Dalene 
Bradford of Kansas City, MO; Marjean Brooks (Ricky) of Birmingham, AL; 
Dwight DuBois (Janice) of Des Moines, IA; and Doug DuBois of Lawrence, 
KS. She loved her children, six grandchildren and eleven 
great-grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments. While
 residing at assisted living and nursing home facilities after Lee’s 
death, her eyes would light up when viewing photos of, or engaging in 
FaceTime calls with, the younger ones. With the loss of both Marie and 
Lee, her loved ones are saddened to say goodbye to the final members of 
her generation of the Gremmel and DuBois families.

Marie was a life-long Lutheran and felt special affection for her 
childhood church of St. John Lutheran in Kensington, KS. She was an 
active member of Shades Valley Lutheran in Birmingham, AL for many 
decades.

She was buried in West Cedar Cemetery north of Agra next to her 
husband on Wednesday, April 22. The family hopes to hold a memorial 
service at St. John Lutheran Church, Kensington, after travel 
restrictions have been lifted.

 born December 3, 1933 in Delphos to Willard R. and Clara E. (Liedtke) 
Irvine.

Virginia 
and Armon L. Hurtig were united in marriage August 14, 1955 in Delphos. 
She was a schoolteacher for many years, teaching in Grinnell, Delphos, 
and Concordia. Virginia was a longtime and faithful member of the 
Delphos First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for 
over 50 years. She was also a member of the former Friendly Neighbors 
Club.

Heather; son-in-law, Donald Spear; and sisters, Twila Bailie and

Betty Marie Huenergardt, 92, passed away April 19, 2020 at the William Newton Hospital, Winfield, Kansas.

She was born January 21, 1928 in Albert, Kansas the daughter of Otto 
John Sr. and Ellen Arnold Oetken.&nbsp; A longtime resident of Barton and 
Rush Counties, moving to Winfield in 2013.&nbsp; She was a homemaker an 
awesome wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a member of the La Crosse Seventh Day Adventist Church.

On August 31, 1957 she married Maurice Huenergardt in Raton, New Mexico; he passed away May 19, 2004.

Survivors include; four daughters; Sharon (Ron) Fuller, Wichita, Gwen
 Huenergardt, California, Maureen Huenergardt, Great Bend and Heidi 
(Darin) Blake, Winfield and one grandson Blake Beach Huenergardt 
Wareham.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, a brother, Otto Oetken Jr. and a sister, Violetta Karst.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announced at

Betty Marie Huenergardt

Patty Kay Pruitt, 50, died Saturday, April 18, 2020 at her home in 
Garden City, Kansas.  She was born November 9, 1969 in Vernon, Texas the
 daughter of Donnie Leon &amp; Betty G. (Howard) Pruitt.


     Born in Vernon, Texas, Patty later moved with her family to Leoti, 
Kansas when she was four years old.  A short time later, they moved to 
Scott City, Kansas where Patty attended Scott City schools and graduated
 from Scott Community High School in 1988.  She then moved and lived in 
Fountain, Colorado, Came back to Scott City, Jacksonville, Florida, and 
back to Scott City again.  She later moved to Garden City in the late 
1990’s where she has lived since.  While living in Garden City, Patty 
worked at both Hannah’s Corner and Pizza Hut.  She enjoyed animals 
especially horses, helping people, visiting with people, and she was an 
avid Green Bay Packers fan.


     Survivors include three children Shaunta &amp; husband Ramon 
Aguilar of Denver, Colorado, Devontea Ward of Garden City, Kansas, and 
Patricc Pruitt of Garden City, Kansas; her mother Betty G. Pruitt of 
Garden City, Kansas; and two sisters Betty Pruitt of Jacksonville, 
Florida and Melissa Brown of Wichita, Kansas.  Patty is preceded in 
death by her father and a brother Gerry Lee Pruitt.


     A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24,

Patty Kay Pruitt, 50, died Saturday, April 18, 2020 at her home in 
Garden City, Kansas. She was born November 9, 1969 in Vernon, Texas the
 daughter of Donnie Leon &amp; Betty G. (Howard) Pruitt.
 Born in Vernon, Texas, Patty later moved with her family to Leoti, 
Kansas when she was four years old. A short time later, they moved to 
Scott City, Kansas where Patty attended Scott City schools and graduated
 from Scott Community High School in 1988. She then moved and lived in 
Fountain, Colorado, Came back to Scott City, Jacksonville, Florida, and 
back to Scott City again. She later moved to Garden City in the late 
1990’s where she has lived since. While living in Garden City, Patty 
worked at both Hannah’s Corner and Pizza Hut. She enjoyed animals 
especially horses, helping people, visiting with people, and she was an 
avid Green Bay Packers fan.
 Survivors include three children Shaunta &amp; husband Ramon 
Aguilar of Denver, Colorado, Devontea Ward of Garden City, Kansas, and 
Patricc Pruitt of Garden City, Kansas; her mother Betty G. Pruitt of 
Garden City, Kansas; and two sisters Betty Pruitt of Jacksonville, 
Florida and Melissa Brown of Wichita, Kansas. Patty is preceded in 
death by her father and a brother Gerry Lee Pruitt.
 A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 
2020 via Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. There
 will be no calling hours. A private family interment will take place

Allura J. Hamm (Steeley, 84, of Hays, passed away April 17, 2020, at Via Christi in Hays from a battle with cancer. She was born December 9, 1935, in Anderson County, Kansas as &nbsp;the daughter of Otis and Virgi (Settleymyer) Steeley. Virgi passed away shortly after giving birth to Allura and her twin brother. Allura's brother followed in death shortly after. Allura was raised primarily by her father and her cousins, Betty and Lola, who became like sisters to Allura as she grew up. She graduated from Iola High School and attended Southern Business College of Tucson, Arizona.

On August 15, 1954, she was united in marriage to Virgil “Lynn” Hamm at Northcott Church in Colony, Kansas. They were married for 63 years. She worked in the banking industry in Wichita, Kansas prior to moving to Hays. In 1963, they opened an Otasco store on Main Street in Hays, later becoming Coast to Coast, and then Hamm’s True Value. They ran the store together for 50 years.

Allura was a member of the Red Hat Society and Pinochle Club for many years. She enjoyed bowling and tea parties with her grandchildren. She loved her grandkids and great grandkids dearly.

Survivors include her three daughters: Brenda Epperson and husband Scott of Owasso, Oklahoma, Julia Kuntz and husband Andy of Hays, and Nikki Hamm of Enid, Oklahoma; three grandchildren: Josh Kuntz and wife Kayce, Heather Schmitz and husband Derrik, and Garrett Epperson; and two great grandchildren: Savannah and Elijah Schmitz.

She was preceded in death by her parents Otis and Virgi Steeley, her husband Virgil “Lynn” Hamm, granddaughter Lauren Lynn Epperson, and great-granddaughter Laylah Nicole Kuntz.

A public service at North Oak Community Church in Hays will be announced when the gathering restrictions due to the Covid 19 virus have been lifted. A private family burial service will be held at the White Chapel Cemetery in Wichita.

Melanie Ann Bernbeck, 63, passed away on April 19, 2020 at the Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom, Kansas.  She was born on February 25, 1957 in Washington Courthouse, Ohio the daughter of Harold and Georgann (Mizzoni) Wagner.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Utica where she was a Life Deaconess and a active member of CWF.  She was a teacher and a member of the RNC and the NRA.  She married Berthold "Gene" Bernbeck on Saturday, June 7th, 1986, in Utica, Kansas.  

Survivors include husband, Gene; mother, Georgann Wagner; son, Dion Bernbeck and his wife, Amanda, of Grainfield; sisters, Mary Bundy of Missouri and Doreen Wagner of Ohio; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral service  and burial will be on Thursday, April 23, 2020, 10:30 a.m., at the Utica Cemetery, Utica.

Memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian Church.

Vernon F. Robl, 91, passed away April 20, 2020, at Ellinwood District
 Hospital, Ellinwood. He was born on October 25, 1928, in Ellinwood, the
 son of George and Loretta (Schartz) Robl. He married Marlene Schawe on 
November 19, 1955, in Great Bend. He later married Patricia (Zahn) 
Steadman on August 22, 1996, in St. John. She died February 13, 2012.

A lifetime Ellinwood resident, Vernon worked for the United States 
Postal Service in Ellinwood as a letter carrier. He retired after 34 
years of service on February 1, 1984. He was a member of St. Joseph 
Catholic Church in Ellinwood, a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Post 
#1187, National Association of Letter Carriers, National Association of 
Retired Federal Employees, American Legion Post #180, and Veterans of 
Foreign Wars. He was a United States Army veteran. He enjoyed playing 
cards, listening to various types of music, attending concerts, and 
visiting with friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his 
family.

Survivors include, seven sons, Vincent Robl (Terry) of Broken Arrow, 
Okla., Lawrence Robl (Norma) of Ellinwood, Dale Robl (Judy) of Salina, 
Quentin Robl (Christine) of Salina, Phillip Robl (Cassindra) of Wichita,
 Mark Robl (Sally) of Coweta, Okla., and Charles Robl of Salina; a 
daughter, Rita Angione (Jeff) of Hyde Park, Vt.; a step daughter, Lisa 
Weber (Corey) of St. John; a sister, Eileen Wilson (Wayne) of 
Weatherford, Okla.; 25 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren. He was
 preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Raymond Robl and 
Martin Robl.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, April 24, 
2020, at Bryant Funeral Home. A private rosary and funeral service will 
be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home,

Ronald J. Herrman, 71, died Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, NE.

He was born December 2, 1948 in Goodland, Kansas to Frank A. and Lena M. (Sponsel) Herrman.

Ron loved to spend time with family. He treasured the moments he had 
with his mom and dad, brother and sisters, and brothers and 
sisters-in-law, which he looked at as brothers and sisters rather than 
in-laws. He enjoyed spending time in Liebenthal, Kansas at family 
reunions. Here he enjoyed talking about cars and playing softball with 
family. Also, he enjoyed taking his children Ronda and Ronnie on 
exciting and entertaining car rides. Ron was a kid at heart whose 
favorite holiday had to be the 4th of July. &nbsp;When Ronnie was younger he 
would supply the neighborhood kids with fireworks. As Ron grew older he 
always made sure his grandchildren, Sydney and Hunter had enough 
fireworks to last the whole month. He enjoyed the times when his brother
 Frank would come up for the 4th.&nbsp; He thought it was so funny to light 
fireworks at Frank when he wasn’t watching and watch him run away! Ron 
was a mentor to anyone who wanted to lift weights. He enjoyed playing 
football in the street with Ronnie and the neighborhood kids at Meadows.
 He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, working on his vehicles, singing along
 to the music of his younger days, talking about the Rock Island 
Railroad, and reminiscing of when he and his siblings were younger. 
Which according to him, he was the angel and everyone else just talked 
him into doing things. All which brought him great joy and would bring a
 smile to his face. Ron loved animals and had a particular fondness of a
 poodle named Bella. He will be missed by many of us who truly knew him 
and grew up with him and others for miles around.

Ron is survived by his children, Ronda (Nathan) Weirich of Beatrice, 
NE and Ronnie Herrman of Alliance, NE; and his grandchildren, Sydney 
Weirich and Hunter Weirich both of Beatrice, NE.&nbsp; He is also survived by
 his brother, Frank (Alice) Herrman of Salina, KS; his sisters, Patty 
Wicke of Goodland, KS, Linda (Curtis) Miller of Salina, KS, Sharon 
(John) Hartman of Clifton, KS and Mary Lou (Louis) Haller of Denver, CO;
 and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Archie Wicke, and his niece, Cindy Clark.

LeeRoy Berthold Schuckman, age 83, of Hays, Kansas died Saturday, 
April 18, 2020, in Hays.&nbsp; He was born June 13, 1936 in LaCrosse, Kansas 
to Ludwig and Esther Schaffer Schuckman.&nbsp;

He earned his bachelors and masters degrees from Fort Hays State 
University and his specialist degree from Kansas University.&nbsp; He was an 
educator for 39 years.&nbsp; He taught and was Principal in McCracken, KS, 
Principal of LaCrosse High School and Superintendent/Principal at Almena
 (Northern Valley).&nbsp; He spent summers cutting wheat on his parent’s 
farm.&nbsp; Career highlights also include driving a lawn mower across the 
United States when he was 17 years old and earning his real-estate 
license later in life. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary 
Church and a life member of the VFW and American Legion.&nbsp; LeeRoy enjoyed
 spending time with his family, golfing, dancing and going to the lake.&nbsp;

Survivors include long-time friend Marge Rome of Victoria, KS, one 
son, Robin Schuckman and spouse, Dotty of Alma, KS, two daughters, Lisa 
Schuckman-Baus and Penny Schuckman both of Wichita, KS one brother, Eddy
 Schuckman, LaCrosse, KS, four grandchildren Annie Frank (Justin,

Leon L. Johnson

Bernard “Bernie” Albert Schneweis, 94, passed away April 18, 2020, at
 the University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus, Great Bend.
 He was born on June 4, 1925, at Odin, to Walter &amp; Anna (Klug) 
Schneweis. He married Dolores Christina Hoffman May 27, 1953 at Great 
Bend, Kansas. She died July 13, 2013.

A lifetime area resident, Bernard was an electrician and plumber for 
Marlett &amp; Rice Engineers. He was of the Catholic faith and a member 
of the Knights of Columbus in Odin. He was a great handyman and loved to
 help people. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, the Kansas City 
Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Cardinals. He especially 
enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include, six sons, Leon Schneweis and wife Cinda of 
Lawrence, Richard Schneweis and wife Debbie of Claflin, Mark Schneweis 
of Fallon, Nev., Paul Schneweis and wife Renee of Fort Brag, N.C., Tony 
Schneweis and wife Robin of Manhattan and Mike Schneweis of Great Bend; a
 daughter in law, Susan Schneweis of Ellinwood; a brother, Jim Schneweis
 and wife Loraine of Hoisington; seventeen grandchildren, Rachel, 
Nathan, Phillip, Fred, Jon, Cindy, Matthew, Angie, Travis, Erin, Bryce, 
Rian, Steiner, Curtis, Cierra, Christopher and Faith; and fourteen great
 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Alan 
Schneweis; an infant daughter, Bernadette Schneweis; two brothers, 
Raymond Schneweis and Tom Schneweis; and two sisters, Mary Welsh and 
Dorothy Myers.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 
2020 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. A public 
Vigil livestream will be available at www.bryantfh.net under Bernard's 
obituary.&nbsp; A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held, 
Thursday, April 23, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood, 
with Father Terrance Klein presiding. Due to COVID19, a celebration of 
life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Claflin 
Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by the Kansas National Guard. 
Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels, in care of Bryant Funeral 
Home.

Bernard 'Bernie' Albert Schneweis

Roy Dean “Bucket” Hargitt,&nbsp;59 years old, of&nbsp;Quinter, KS, passed away on&nbsp;Sunday, March 29, 2020. Roy was born in&nbsp;Oakley, KS&nbsp;on&nbsp;June 27, 1960.&nbsp;He&nbsp;graduated from&nbsp;Quinter High School in 1978.

After high school, Roy joined the United States Marine Corps. His unit was G 2/7 Wpns Plt 1st Mar Div., where his specialty was Machine Gunner. Many fellow Marines admired him. A member of his unit described Roy as the type of person who would help others during military exercises by offering motivational words, water, or even volunteer to carry their gear for them as well as his own. While serving, he received the Rifle Marksman Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Mast, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. After achieving the rank of Corporal, the commanding officer of Roy’s unit asked him to re-enlist in the Marines. Rather than make the military his career, Roy came back to Quinter in August of 1982, where he decided to settle down and establish roots.


Roy met a cute, little, redheaded waitress at the Q-Inn soon after his return to Kansas. He&nbsp;was united in marriage to&nbsp;Nadine (Pfeifer) Hargitt&nbsp;on&nbsp;December 22nd, 1984. They were married&nbsp;35 years. To this union, they had 4 kids – Jenny (Sweet Pea, Jacob (Spud, Jordon (Jo-Don, and Jayna (Pojo). He took great pride in each of his children. He enjoyed going on vacations with his family to ride ATVs at the sand dunes in Waynoka, Oklahoma. In 2012, he received the honor of becoming a grandpa with the birth of his first grandchild, Harper. He was then blessed with the addition of 2 grandsons, Rhys and Ryker. He loved spending time with each of his 3 grandkids. 


Each of Roy’s children had their own place in his heart as he showed great interest in participating in all of their individual happenings. Whether it was schoolwork, sports, music, mechanical work, Scouts, dance, outdoor fun, or other various activities, Roy was enthusiastic about being physically present and involved for each one of his kids. He cherished the moments of passing along his knowledge for their own growth and development. Roy loved having a large extended family and he always made time to see his parents and siblings.


Roy was well-known for his strong work ethic, his willingness to lend a hand without being asked, his big smile, and kind heart. He also enjoyed making people laugh with occasional practical jokes, driving his Jeep, taking trips on his motorcycle, and spending time with his dogs, Grunt and Greta. Drivers passing by on Castle Rock Road would frequently give a friendly honk when they saw him working in the garage and would often stop by for extensive conversations.

Roy&nbsp;is survived by&nbsp;his wife Nadine; parents Merle and Dotty Hargitt of Quinter; his children Jenny (Hargitt) Nicholl and husband Conor of Hays, KS, Jacob Hargitt and fiancée Alexandria Russell of WaKeeney, KS, Jordon Hargitt and wife Jacee of Fort Collins, CO, and Jayna Hargitt and partner Andrew Theimer of Levant, KS; grandchildren Harper Nicholl of Hays, and Rhys and Ryker Russell of WaKeeney; siblings Maryle (Hargitt) Albin and husband Tom of Nashville, TN, Mona (Hargitt) Stewart and husband Tom of Quinter, Randall Hargitt and wife Rita of Quinter, Wendall Hargitt and wife Gina of Quinter, and Neil Hargitt and wife JoEva Hargitt of Arnold, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.&nbsp;

Memorial services Military honors are pending and will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established a “Roy Hargitt Memorial Fund” at the Golden Plains Credit Union.&nbsp; Donations to the memorial may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 South Main, Quinter, KS&nbsp; 67752.

Roy Dean 'Bucket' Hargitt

Shawn Andrew McKeon, age 49 of Osborne, KS passed away on Saturday, 
April 18th, 2020. Shawn was born on June 17th, 1970, in Bayonne, New 
Jersey, to Pamela and Andrew McKeon.&nbsp;

Shawn served in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged 
in 1989. In 1990, he became an EMT. He sincerely enjoyed this job. In 
1995, he graduated from Schenectady Community College with his 
Associate’s degree in criminal justice; in 1996 he graduated from Ellis 
Hospital School of Nursing with his RN license. Shawn had a passion for 
serving others and being outdoors. He worked as a nurse and EMT for many
 years, as well as gardening and helping out on the Schoen’s farm. He 
also ran a business, Service First Computers, out of his home for 20 
years.

Shawn met the love of his life, Rita (Hageman) McKeon upon moving to 
Osborne, KS from New York. They were wed in October of 1999, and to this
 union, two children were born. Shawn is survived by his mother, Pamela 
McKeon, of Colorado Springs, CO; his wife Rita McKeon, daughter Chloe, 
and son Ty of Osborne, KS; step-daughter Laura and spouse Jeff 
Charbonneau; and granddaughter Jaci Charbonneau, all of Smith Center, 
KS.&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial 
contributions may be sent to Schoen’s Funeral Home, 302 N Hersey Ave, 
Beloit, KS 67420. Memorials will be given to Parkview Care Center of 
Osborne or the McKeon Children Educational fund.
