Tamera Jo Teeter, 62, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, March 10th, 2020. 
 

Tamera was born, a beloved daughter, to Herb and JoAnn (Fink) Teeter, 
on Oct 27th, 1957, in Oakley, KS. She attended school in Oakley and 
graduated from OHS in 1975. Tamera graduated from Kansas University with
 a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies.  She lived in Lawrence 
for many years, working for Sunflower Ammunition Plant and the Lawrence 
water treatment plant. 

Tamera worked for the Kansas Department of Health
 and Environment in the Lawrence and Salina field offices as an 
environmental scientist for the livestock program.  She loved being out 
in nature and appreciating the landscapes and plants of Kansas. She had a
 strong interest in the grasslands and pursued her masters in range 
management. Her loves and passions were her children, nature, and our 
country. She was a member of the Methodist Church and had a deep 
personal relationship with her God. Tamera was a beloved and kind 
daughter, mother, sister, niece, educator and friend.  She worked very 
hard to make the world a better place and her light will be missed.  


She was preceded in death by her father Herb and her son Morgan 
Crandell. She is survived by her sons Sawyer Crandell, of Independence, 
MO and Asher Crandell, of Lawrence, KS; her mother JoAnn Teeter, of 
Oakley KS; her sister Tracee Teeter (Randy Swart, of Oakley, and 
special friend Dean Althrage, of Lawrence, KS.    


Cremation was chosen. The family will receive friends and family at the 
Oakley United Methodist Church, Friday, March 13th, 2020, from 5pm-7pm. 
 A memorial service will be Sat, March 14th, 2020 at 10:30am, also at 
the church. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials 
are suggested to The Oakley United Methodist Church, The Kansas Honor 
Flight program and/or The Konza State Biological Station and can be sent

Tamera Jo Teeter

Roy Lee Smith passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, in Phillipsburg, 
KS at the age of 72.  He was born on August 17, 1947 in Leavenworth, KS 
to the late Bertram E. and Lora (Eskridge) Smith. He was a graduate of 
Andrews (TX) High School, and Toledo Butcher School. He married Patricia
 Burghart in Las Vegas, NV on February 15, 1977. Roy worked as a butcher
 all of his working career. He worked for Mr. K’s in Plainville, KS for 
37 years providing quality meat products to families and restaurants in 
the area. 


Roy is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Burghart; parents 
Bertram and Lora Smith; brother Arvis Ray Smith; sisters-in-law Fay 
Smith and JoAnn Burghart Smith; and nieces Trudy Smith and JoAnn Kay 
Smith. 


Survivors include his sister, Irene Smith Russell and her husband 
Warren of Morgan Mill, TX; brothers, Leeman Smith, Eugene Smith, and 
Doug Smith and his wife Geneva – all of Denison, TX.; and many nieces 
and nephews.


A Graveside remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 
10:00 a.m. at the Plainville City Cemetery led by longtime friend Marvin
 Ellis. All family and friends are invited to attend and encouraged to 
share stories of their memories of Roy.


Memorials are suggested to donor’s choice and may be sent in care of

Roy Lee Smith

Patricia J. Young, 82, passed away March 12, 2020 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born February 23, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri to George and Cornelia Snyder Sallee.

A long-time area resident, she grew up in the Stafford County area. 
She was of the Christian faith and worked as a bookkeeper. She was a 
member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.

On June 16,2018 she married Lewis Young at Larned; he survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, D. Jo and husband Garry 
Stevens, Great Bend, Darci and husband Donnie Bell, Crossville, 
Tennessee; a son, David Detrich, Arizona; six grandchildren, ten great 
grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Daniel Detrich; a 
sister, Georgialee Ann Keeler; and ten half brothers and sisters.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary 
Chapel, Larned, with Reverend Jack Singer presiding. Visitation 9:00 
a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned; burial in Larned 
Cemetery, Larned.

Patricia J. Young

Elmer Leroy Steinle, 97, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Main Street Manor in Russell.

Elmer was born February 19, 1923 in Russell.  He was first of four children born to David Samuel and Amelia Molly (Ehrlich) Steinle.  Elmer grew up in Russell and attended Russell High School, but had to quite before graduating, when the family farm was lost during the great depression, and went to work as a cook at the Puritan Café, in Russell, to help the family.  Elmer was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943, sent to Cook and Baker school at Camp San Luis Obispo, California by the Army.  Elmer was promoted to Tec 4th Class and served as company Mess Sergeant in the Asiatic Theater, primarily Burma, April 1944 until December 1945.  Elmer was discharged from the Army in January 1946, returning to Russell.

Elmer had married prior to his military service, October 1942 to Dorothy Ruth Bussin of Great Bend, and was blessed with their only son, Roy.  They divorced January 1946 and Elmer was joined in marriage with the love of his life, Sophie Mathilda Scheck, of Collyer, April 1946.  Elmer and Sophie, with Roy, made their home in Russell.

Elmer worked in his father’s business, Steinle Produce, primarily purchasing cream, eggs, and chickens from the area farmers and in turn selling them various farm supplies such as livestock feeds, seed, bailing wire, salt lick blocks, twine, etc.  Shortly after his father retired from the business in the late fifties Elmer also left the Produce business and became a full time Carpenter.  He was diversified in that he remodeled homes, built furniture, built homes in Russell, worked construction on a number of larger building projects in Russell, the Russell State Bank one of the local projects.  Elmer was also carpenter Forman for the Kansas Refined Helium plant construction in Otis.  For many years Elmer served on the Russell-Great township fire department as well as serving as the Dep0artments Fire Chief for a number of years until his retirement from the fire department.  Elmer was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, past member of the Russell Elks Lodge, a member of the Russell VFW Post #6240 and a member of the Russell American Legion, William Roe Post 99.  A past Commander of Post 99 and held various officer positions at the Post.

Elmer enjoyed playing cards, for many years he dealt Black Jack, and later loved playing Texas Holdem with friends any time he could find a game.  He and Sophie took to antique collecting and spent most of their time together traveling, buying and selling antiques, attending and participating in antique shows.  For many years antiques were their passion.  Elmer also became known in Russell as a Studebaker collector, and at one time had a number of Studebaker cars and trucks, plus spare parts, and restored them to operating condition.  In retirement Elmer took up square dancing, joining the “Shooting Stars” club in Hays and continued carpenter work in his shop building children’s furniture, chairs, rockers, tables, and wagons.

Elmer’s surviving family include his son, Roy Steinle (Rosemary) of Russell, Kansas; brother, Gorden Dave Steinle of Kansas City, Missouri; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister Fern Harman Deutscher and brother Wilber Dean Steinle.

A Graveside Service will be held at  time and date   at St. John Lutheran Cemetery of Russell, Kansas.  The family selected cremation and no visitation will be held.

Wilmer “Mike” Leroy Michel of Hays, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Homestead Assisted Living in Hays at the age of 93.&nbsp; 

He was born April 20, 1926, to George and Alvina (Reinhardt) Michel at the family farmstead in Russell County Kansas. He attended country school until 8th grade then attended Russell HS graduating in 1944.&nbsp; After helping his Dad with wheat harvest, he left for World War 11 serving in the Army in the Philippines and Japan.&nbsp; He was married to Dora Lee Fern (Dumler) on June 8, 1947, in Russell.

After returning and getting married, Wilmer had several different jobs including working on the family farm, oil field work, selling cars and working for Palmer Oil Co. in Russell until moving his family to Norcatur, KS on September 5, 1950.&nbsp; On September 11, 1950, he was appointed distributor for Standard Oil Co. doing business as Michel Gas Co.&nbsp; It was later changed to Michel Oil and Gas, Inc.&nbsp; 

He said that was one of the best times of his life raising his family, having a job that he enjoyed, and serving the people of the Norcatur area.&nbsp; He sold his business to his son-in-law in 1986 and then moved to Hays in 1987.&nbsp; He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hays and the Norcatur Methodist Church.&nbsp; 

Wilmer enjoyed doing yard work; spending time at the lake with family; loving, playing with and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow; and exploring the US, Canada, and Mexico with Dora in their RV.&nbsp; For almost 2 years he resided at Homestead which was a blessing to him to be surrounded by such wonderful, loving people. &nbsp;

He is survived by four daughters: Connie O’Hare (Roger) of Grove, OK; Vicky Showman (Randy) of Dora, MO; Karen Bailey (Chris) of Jennings, KS; and Cathy Pfeifer (Galen) of Hays, KS; Grandchildren: Patrick (Wendy) O’Hare, Michel (Jennifer) O’Hare, Kelly Showman, Derek Showman, Marcus Showman, Danielle (Kurt) Weidauer, Andrea (Gabe) Bromm, Denton (Stephanie) Bailey, Ryan (Sarah) Pfeifer, Aaron (Brendan) Pfeifer, Taylor (Hannah) Pfeifer, Justin Pfeifer. Great grandchildren: Connor O’Hare, Landon O’Hare, Kaden O’Hare, &nbsp;Evan (Megan) Gronau, Avery Gronau, Andrew Showman, Ethan Showman, Joslyn Showman, Paisley Showman, Will Weidauer, Isabelle Weidauer, Brody Bromm, Layne Bromm, Wyatt Bromm, Scarlett Bailey, Adelyn Bailey, Sophia Pfeifer, Miles Pfeifer, Jase Pfeifer, Addie Pfeifer, a great grandchild due in September, and great-great grandchild Maggie Gronau.&nbsp;

In addition to his parents, Wilmer was preceded in death by his wife Dora Lee of 61 years, infant son Steven Leroy, brothers Paul, Leon and Donald, and one sister Esther.

Graveside Services will be held at a later date in Norcatur, Kansas.&nbsp; Memorial contributions may be made to Homestead Assisted Living of Hays, and to the Norcatur Cemetery/Avenue of Flags. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Joleen McDowell, 86, of Grand Island, Neb., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 8, 2020.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Services
 will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, March 20, 2020 in her hometown of 
Smith Center, KS with visitation from 11 to 12 a.m. at the All Faiths 
Funeral Chapel, 113 S Madison St., Smith Center, KS 66967. Burial will 
follow at Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, KS.

Memorials are designated to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Joleen was born on June 23, 1933 in Smith Center, daughter of Garth and Erma (Burgess) Holmes.

She
 grew up and received her education from Smith Center, and was active in
 the music program playing the French Horn. She graduated with the class
 of 1950 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was 
employed at Smith County Bank, often most of her paycheck would be spent
 on her love of shoes, a trait that she passed to her daughters and 
grand-daughters.

On September 25, 1955 she was 
united in marriage to Everett McDowell. The couple made their home in 
Smith Center until 1976 when they moved to Grand Island.

Joleen
 was a member of the World Wide Church of God. With her servants’ heart,
 she always shared her homemade cooking, fellowship and smile.

Joleen
 embodied the unconditional love of a mother. She was an excellent cook 
and baker and many hours were spent outside tending to her flower and 
vegetable gardens canning most of the produce. She also enjoyed reading 
and playing card games.&nbsp;&nbsp; She will always be a beautiful example of a 
loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

 is survived by her husband, Everett of Grand Island; children, Brenda 
Struble of Medford, OK, Brian (Debra) McDowell of Weston, MO, Brice 
McDowell of Phoenix, AZ, Blake (Delonna) McDowell of Grand Island; 
Beverly (DeForest) Walker of Loveland, CO, Beth (Mike) Lebeda of 
Medford, OK, Bridget (Tony) Tatum of Wichita, KS, and Becky McDowell 
(Clark Gauthier) of Grand Island; numerous grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet (John) McDowell and Jerry (Cecil) 
Lambert both of Smith Center, KS; daughter-in-law, Rhonda McDowell of 
Spokane, WA; along with several nieces nephews and extended family and 
friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Brad; sister, Joyce McGee and daughter-in-law, Cindi McDowell.

Joleen McDowell

Deanna Lou Georgeson, daughter of Sylvester "Buck" and Zella (Brown) Jacobs, was born December 4, 1944, in Norton, Kansas, and passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton on March 11, 2020, at the age of 75.

Deanna grew up in Norton and attended the Norton schools, graduating from the Norton Community High School.  On January 16, 1966, Deanna and Max Georgeson were united in marriage in Norton.  They moved to the farm northwest of Norton in 1968, where they farmed and raised their family.  Deanna was a typist at Valley Hope for many years and later for the Worden Law Office.  

Deanna was a member of the Norton Christian Church and she was diligent about reading her Bible every morning to start her day.  She enjoyed cooking, knitting and crocheting, spending time in her flower garden and researching genealogy.  Her greatest joy in life was her family and spending special times with them.

Survivors include:  her husband, Max, of their home in Norton; one son, Scott Georgeson, Norton; her twin sister, Diane Kent, Manhattan, Kansas; three grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Deanna was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Tom, her daughter, Summer, and her half-sister, Donna Shirley.

J.D. Most, 87, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday,&nbsp;March 10, 2020, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

J.D. was born on 
December 30, 1932, in Atwood, Kansas.&nbsp; The son of Jesse and Merna 
(Escue) Most.&nbsp; He grew up in Atwood and graduated from Atwood High 
School.&nbsp; After high school he graduated from McCook Junior College in 
McCook, Nebraska.&nbsp; He served his country by joining the United States 
Army and served state side during the Korean war.&nbsp; After serving in the 
Army, he received his bachelors and masters degree in education from Ft.
 Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; 

He met, fell in love and was 
united in marriage to Shirley M. Hurst on August 21, 1955, in Atwood, 
Kansas.&nbsp; From this union, J.D. and Shirley were blessed with three 
daughters Lynette, DeAnn and Valerie.&nbsp; J.D. and Shirley moved and raised
 their family to Russell, Kansas, in 1961, where he worked as a history 
and physical education teacher for USD 407 School District.&nbsp; He worked 
at the middle school and high school.&nbsp; He also was a coach for the 
school district coaching football, basketball, track and volleyball.&nbsp; He
 also worked as a referee in football and basketball.&nbsp; J.D.'s passion 
was sports and he loved working with, teaching and coaching children.&nbsp; 
He also enjoyed woodworking, and going to the lake and cabin in 
Colorado.&nbsp; Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, 
especially his children and grandchildren.

Surviving family include
 his wife Shirley of the home, daughters Lynette Nagai-Most (Mark, 
DeAnn Most and Valerie Most all of Wichita, Kansas; sister Jeanine Bevan
 of Caldwell, Kansas and 2 grandchildren Trevor Nagai (Tabithia) and 
Cody Nagai and great grandson Liam Nagai.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by 
his parents.

A celebration of 
J.D.'s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, March 13, 2020, at the 
Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Mike 
Ketchens officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp;
 Visitation and family greeting guests will take place the day of 
service at the church from 10 A.M. to service time.&nbsp; 

Memorials may be 
given to Trinity United Methodist Church or USD 407 Athletic Department 
and sent in care of the mortuary.&nbsp; Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of

Jalyn attended school in Osborne, KS and graduated from high school 
at Minden, NE in 1972. &nbsp;She attended college and graduated with a 
Masters Degree in Counseling. &nbsp;She worked as a Licensed Master Addiction
 Counselor. &nbsp;Some of the places she worked were&nbsp;Norton, KS, Nebraska 
City, NE, Columbus, NE, York, NE, Lincoln, NE and Salina, KS.

Jalyn had two children that she loved very much. &nbsp;Jalyn enjoyed 
cooking, gardening, her dogs and visiting with family &amp; friends.

Jalyn was preceded in death by her parents.

Jalyn is survived by her daughter, Melissa Boye of Colorado Springs, 
CO and son, Jared Todd of Buena Vista, CO; brother, Aaron Caldwell of

Fred E. Meyer, 84, of Gypsum, passed away Monday, March 9, 2020. He was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Carlton, to Jesse and Thirza (Jones) Meyer.


He attended Chapman High School and graduated in 1953.


Fred married Mary Jo Karber on July 19, 1955. They had five daughters of whom he was extremely proud.


Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Mary Jo, of the home; 
daughters, Jeanette Leander (Bill, of Gypsum, Pat Belt (Dan, of 
Lakewood, Colo., Debbie Koster (Jim, of Bennington, Diana Budke 
(Dennis, of Hays, and Carol Craver (Kevin, of Gypsum; grandchildren, 
Chelsy, Sarah, Chad, Jennifer, Kyle, Craig, Brian, Travis, Cory and 
Casey; and 16 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his siblings, Virgil Meyer, Idelle 
Ade, Willie Meyer, Karl Meyer, Lola Beemer, Betty Sexton, Glen Meyer and
 Albert Meyer.


Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 12, with family 
greeting friends from 5-8 p.m., and rosary service at 7 p.m., all at 
Ryan Mortuary, Salina.


Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday, March 
13, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Salina. Burial

Fred E. Meyer

James D. Simons, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas.  Jim was born May 2, 1938 in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Louis B. &amp; Ida (Wewer) Simons.  A lifetime resident of Wichita County, he was a farmer and rancher.  Jim served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1957 through 1959.

Jim was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas as well as the Knights of Columbus and had served on the Wichita County Soil Conservation board for nine years.

On November 22, 1986 he married Lillian N. Boulware at Las Vegas, Nevada.  Lillian passed away on March 1, 2011 in Scott City, Kansas.

Jim’s surviving family includes five children- Curtis Simons of Emporia, Kansas, Randy Simons of Allen, Texas, Debra Aldridge of McAlester, Oklahoma, Wayne Simons of McAllister, Montana and Shawn Simons of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Three stepchildren- Kerri Chavez of New Mexico, Lance Webster of Scott City, Kansas and Lesha Webster of Stafford, Kansas. Four siblings including Ron Simons of Stockton, Kansas, Donald Simons of Hays, Kansas, John Simons of Marienthal, Kansas and Geraldine Mazanec of Marienthal, Kansas.

Eight grandchildren Four great grandchildren and ten step grandchildren.

His parents, a brother, Robert Simons and stepson, J.W. Webster precede him in death.

 </figure>James D. Simons, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. Jim was born May 2, 1938 in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Louis B. &amp; Ida (Wewer) Simons. A lifetime resident of Wichita County, he was a farmer and rancher. Jim served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1957 through 1959.Jim was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas as well as the Knights of Columbus and had served on the Wichita County Soil Conservation board for nine years.On November 22, 1986 he married Lillian N. Boulware at Las Vegas, Nevada. Lillian passed away on March 1, 2011 in Scott City, Kansas.Jim’s surviving family includes five children- Curtis Simons of Emporia, Kansas, Randy Simons of Allen, Texas, Debra Aldridge of McAlester, Oklahoma, Wayne Simons of McAllister, Montana and Shawn Simons of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.Three stepchildren- Kerri Chavez of New Mexico, Lance Webster of Scott City, Kansas and Lesha Webster of Stafford, Kansas. Four siblings including Ron Simons of Stockton, Kansas, Donald Simons of Hays, Kansas, John Simons of Marienthal, Kansas and Geraldine Mazanec of Marienthal, Kansas.Eight grandchildren Four great grandchildren and ten step grandchildren.His parents, a brother, Robert Simons and stepson, J.W. James D. Simons

Ann Stanton passed away on March 6, 2020. She was born on July 8, 
1940 in Larned, Kansas to Robert and Kathleen (McMorran) Yeager. She 
spent her childhood growing up in Larned and graduated from Larned High 
School. She went on to attend the University of Kansas where she 
received a bachelor’s degree in education. Her adventures began and 
after traveling abroad for several months she moved to Laguna Beach, CA 
to teach elementary school. There she met the love of her life, Major 
Bobby Gene Stanton, who was stationed at El Toro Air Station serving in 
the Marines. They were married August 9, 1964 in Larned at the First 
Presbyterian Church. After Bob retired from the Military, they settled 
in Larned, KS to raise their family and live out their lives.

Ann enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, cooking, playing bridge, 
and was known for hosting many wonderful gatherings for friends and 
family in their home. Ann belonged to the PEO and was a member of the 
Lambda chapter of Chi Omega.

Ann is survived by her husband—Bobby Gene Stanton; children—Richard 
Stanton, Kim Stanton, and Cathy Haymaker; grandchildren—Jessica 
Haymaker-Parsons and Jennifer Haymaker; brother—Richard Yeager; and 
nieces and nephews—Jake Yeager, Luke Yeager, and Julie Cummings.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen (McMorran) Yeager and her father, Robert Yeager.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary 
Chapel, Larned, with Reverend Jack Singer presiding. Visitation 9:00 
a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Inurnment in

Ann Stanton

Gail L. Mongeau, age 63 of Plainville, passed away on Monday, March 9, 
2020 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville. Gail was born on 
December 5, 1956 in Hays, Kansas to Levi and Grace (Meyers) Mongeau. He 
grew up around Zurich and attended and graduated from Palco High School.
 Following his graduation he attended the K-State Vocational Technical 
School in Manhattan. 


After he finished his schooling he returned back to the Rooks County
 area working in the oil field until he moved to Elk City, Oklahoma in 
1986 where he continued his work in the oil fields. In Oklahoma he met 
Clarsie Hargues. They were united in marriage in Sayre, Oklahoma on 
April 16, 1990. The couple moved back to the Rooks County area in 2019 
to assist Gail’s brother, Keith, with his farming operation. 


Gail was an avid sports’ fan. His favorite teams included the Denver
 Broncos for football, and the Oklahoma City Thunder for basketball. He 
was a big fan of his grandchildren’s sporting events; he tried to attend
 as many as he could. Gail loved his family; spending time with them at 
their regular cook-outs and playing jokes on his grandkids were some of 
his favorite things to do. He also enjoyed going to car shows, going on 
long cruises, and fishing. 


He is survived by his wife, Clarsie Mongeau of the home; daughter 
Jessica (Dominic) Krueger of Elk City, OK; step-daughters, Whitney 
(Dell) Vanderwork of Elk City, OK, and Shannon (Terry) Robbins of 
Ardmore, OK; brother, Greg (Kaylene) of Bullard, TX; and sister, Sheila 
(Ross) Deckert of Morrison, CO; fifteen grandchildren, Vince, Hunter, 
Robbie, Ryan, Kelly, Kody, Alex, Gracie, Cadence, Hannah, Gauge, Jaeden,
 Bentli, Axton, and Adisyn; eight great-grandchildren, Lily, Leo, Quade,
 Aubree, Mave, Willow, Kenadee, and Karson; and a sister-in-law, June 
Mongeau of Plainville.


Gail is preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Grace Mongeau; and brother, Keith Mongeau.

Duane Mann, son of Clifford and Erma (Waufle) Mann, was born November 28, 1929, in Norton County, Kansas, and passed away at the Downs Care Center in Downs, Kansas, on March 10, 2020, at the age of 90.

Duane spent his life in Norton County where he attended rural grade school.  He married Betty Schutze in Norton and they made their home farming in the Norton community.  

Duane was a member of the Norton Christian Church.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting woodworking and attending dances at the Eagles Club.  He was also an avid Kansas City Royals fan.

Survivors include:  his daughter, Charlene Mann-Hill, Overland Park, Kansas; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty. 

Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Duane Mann

Margaret “Maggie” E. (Heier) Zerr passed away Monday, March 9, 2020, at 
the Sheridan County Health Complex Long Term Care, Hoxie, Kansas at the 
age of 95.  She was born in Park, Kansas September 27, 1924 to the late 
John and Mary (Heisler) Heier.  She grew up on a farm south of Park, 
Kansas in Gove County.  Maggie attended school in rural Gove County and 
graduated from 8th grade. Shortly after graduation, her mother passed 
away, and she stayed home to care for her younger siblings and the home.
  On February25, 1946, Margaret Heier was united in marriage to Bernard 
N. Zerr at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park, Kansas.  They made 
their home on a farm north of Park and were blessed with five children, 
two boys and three girls.  After Bernard’s death, Maggie moved to Hoxie 
in 1975 where she lived until her death.  She was a devout member of the
 Sacred Heart Catholic Church, of Park, Kansas, and the St. Frances 
Cabrini Catholic Church of Hoxie, Kansas and loved her Lord Jesus 
Christ.


Shortly after moving to Hoxie, Maggie went to work as cook for USD 
412 Elementary School.  She loved her work and retired from the job when
 she was seventy years old.  Maggie was a great cook and baker.  One of 
her specialties was her delicious cinnamon rolls.   She grew a large 
garden canning much of the produce as well canning fruit and meat.  She 
also loved to sew and made clothes for her children and in later years, 
rugs out of double knit material.  When Maggie wasn’t working, she loved
 to play cards.   She was a member of the Sacred Heart Alter Society, 
St. Frances Sodality, and of Park VFW Auxiliary.  She always had a smile
 on her face.  Most of all, Maggie loved her family. Each of her 
children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great 
grandchildren were loved and cherished by her.  


Maggie is survived by her children, Ralph Zerr and wife Norma of 
Park, Kansas, Bernita Wagoner and husband Ron of Great Bend, Kansas, 
Alberta Cameron of Colby, Kansas, and Eugenia Delzeit of Loveland, 
Colorado; 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great 
grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Zerr; parents, 
John and Mary Heier; son, Robert Zerr; granddaughter, Tamera Wagner and 
great-granddaughter, Kristen Trickle. brothers, Anthony Heier, Nicholas 
Heier, George Heier, Theodore Heier, and Fidelis Heier; and sisters, 
Clara Uhrich and Ida Schwarzenberger. 


A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Saturday ,March 14, 2020, 
10:00 A.M., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park, Kansas.  
Interment will follow the service in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery,
 Park.  Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 
Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, Kansas from Noon until 8:00 P.M. The

Margaret 'Maggie' E. (Heier) Zerr

Anita Marie Phillips, 54, passed away March 7, 2020, at Salina 
Regional Health Center, Salina. She was born on January 16, 1966, at 
Abilene, Texas, to Claude Darrell &amp; Rose Mary (Wapelhorst) Phillips.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Anita was a daycare provider. She was
 a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose and Altar Society. She 
volunteered for many years at CKMC. She loved gardening and crocheting. 
She especially loved animals, children and writing stories.

Survivors include, her mother, Rose Mary Phillips of Great Bend; a 
sister, Angela (Phillips) McClure and husband Doug of Sioux City, Iowa; 
and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her 
father, Claude Darrell Phillips; and her grandparents.

Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, March 26th and Friday, March 27th,
 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., 
Saturday, March 28, 2020. Inurnment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery.

Anita Marie Phillips

Mary Wolf Goede, 99, died on January 17, 2020, at Lake Minnetonka Shores Care Center in Spring Park, Minnesota. 

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Darrell Melvin Goede, who died on December 23, 1962; and also her parents, six brothers, four sisters, and one stillborn infant girl. Mary was born at home on the family homestead near Park, Kansas, to Volga German immigrant parents, Bernhard Wolf and Catherine Zimmerman, both of whom had been born in Russia. During World War II, she worked in a defense plant in San Diego, where she and Darrell married as the war ended. Mary had a great love for family and German foods and traditions. Over her long lifetime, Mary performed volunteer work for various charities and, up until her physical condition restricted her from doing so, she relished engaging in conversation about the world, local and national politics, and her family. Her final resting place will be next to her husband in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Park, Kansas.

She is survived by her four children: Larry Goede and his wife Kathleen Weibel of Eagan, Minnesota; Nancy Glover of Burke, Virginia; Daniel Goede and his wife Donna Goede of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Mary Catherine LeFevere and her husband, Clayton LeFevere of Chanhassen, Minnesota. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 2385 Commerce Blvd. Mound, MN, on Friday, January 31 at 11:00, with viewing at 10:00.

Burial service was Friday March 13, 2020 at 11 AM with a visitation starting at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church and Cemetery in Park, Kansas.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Darrell Melvin Goede, who died on December 23, 1962; and also her parents, six brothers, four sisters, and one stillborn infant girl. Mary was born at home on the family homestead near Park, Kansas, to Volga German immigrant parents, Bernhard Wolf and Catherine Zimmerman, both of whom had been born in Russia. During World War II, she worked in a defense plant in San Diego, where she and Darrell married as the war ended. Mary had a great love for family and German foods and traditions. Over her long lifetime, Mary performed volunteer work for various charities and, up until her physical condition restricted her from doing so, she relished engaging in conversation about the world, local and national politics, and her family. Her final resting place will be next to her husband in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Park, Kansas.She is survived by her four children: Larry Goede and his wife Kathleen Weibel of Eagan, Minnesota; Nancy Glover of Burke, Virginia; Daniel Goede and his wife Donna Goede of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Mary Catherine LeFevere and her husband, Clayton LeFevere of Chanhassen, Minnesota. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 2385 Commerce Blvd. Mound, MN, on Friday, January 31 at 11:00, with viewing at 10:00.Burial service was Friday March 13, 2020 at 11 AM with a visitation starting at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church and Cemetery in Park, Kansas.Memorials can be sent to one of Mary’s favorite charities, the American Diabetes Association or Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Jana Marie Hoffman, age 44, of Hays, Kansas passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020 in Newton, Kansas. She was born June the 20, 1975 in Hays to William Dale Hoffman and Mary Stahl.&nbsp; She graduated from Hays High in 1993 and earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Wichita State University.

Jana worked as an aesthetician and owned her own company called My Skin Care Coach. She was very active in fitness and hiking and was always looking to help others.

Emery J. Meis, age 73, died Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born June 29, 1946, at Hays, Kansas, to Joseph P. and Helen (Vonfeldt) Meis. &nbsp;

He grew up in rural Ellis County and attended the Lost Canyon School and later received his diploma from Ellis County Schools, and he also completed several art classes at Wichita State University and Fort Hays Sate University.

He worked in the oil fields and then moved back to Hays in the 1990’s.&nbsp; He owned Emery’s Nursery &amp; Landscaping and worked for Hays Greenhouse for a number of years.&nbsp; He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Catholic Campus Center both of Hays.&nbsp; He has been a resident of Via Christi Village since 2014.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Meis-Rivas and Tony Nunez, Holcomb, KS; Judy Meis-Cole and Jon Haag, Dighton, KS; two brothers, Leroy Meis, Victoria, KS; Kenny Meis and wife, Jeanie, Catharine, KS; one sister, Edie Braun and husband, Wayne, Hays, KS; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three great grandchildren. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 13, 2020 at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919E. 22nd Street,&nbsp; Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Catharine, Kansas.

Audrey Lea Johanns Miller, only child of Arthur and Elizabeth 
(Pruessing) Johanns, was born on February 4, 1926, at Syracuse, NE.&nbsp; She

when Pastor Eggerling accepted a call to St. John Lutheran Church in 
1941.&nbsp; Audrey attended Kensington High School and graduated with the 
Class of 1944.&nbsp; She was baptized on May 23, 1926 by Rev. Gabler at the 
St. John's Evangelical Church, Syracuse, NE., &nbsp;and confirmed in the 
Lutheran faith on May 12, 1940,&nbsp; by Pastor Anton Eggerling, at the 
Trinity Lutheran Church, Wilbur, NE.Audrey was united in marriage to Leland F. Miller on April 21, 1946, 
at St. John Lutheran Church, Kensington, KS.&nbsp; Their union was blessed 
with four children: Cherie, Steven, Roger and Mark.&nbsp; They raised their 
family on the farm northeast of Agra.&nbsp; Audrey was a devoted wife, 
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose life revolved around her
 family.&nbsp; She was a homemaker, enjoying cooking, baking and sewing.&nbsp; She
 was a quilter and made many quilts for her family.&nbsp; They retired from 
the farm in 1992 and moved to Phillipsburg.Audrey was an active member of St. Johns all of her life.&nbsp; She 
enjoyed singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday School, was an 
active member of WELCA, and the St. John's quilting group.&nbsp; Audrey was 
also active in K-town Kates and several bridge club groups.She loved her family and her seven grandsons were her pride and joy.&nbsp;
 She felt their love many times in return.&nbsp; She was blessed with many 
friends through her long years,Preceding her in death were her parents, her step-mother, her Aunt 
and Uncle Eggerling, her husband, her son, Roger, and grandson, Joshua.She leaves to mourn her daughter Cherie Crain, Derby, KS; her sons, 
Steven and wife, Linda, Agra, KS; and Mark, Dodge City, KS; her 
grandsons,&nbsp; Mitch, Agra, KS; Kyle and wife, Brittany, Overland Park, KS;
 Jared and wife, Christen, Olsburg, KS; Neal, Colorado Springs, CO; Wynn
 and Tate, Dodge City, KS; her great-grandsons Parker, Overland Park,
