Almena resident Jerome L. Laurin passed away Feb. 10, 2021, at the 
Norton County Hospital in Norton at the age of 82.&nbsp; He was born Oct. 16,
 1938, in Argyle, MN.

Survivors include his wife Erma; 6 sons: Jeff, Jack, John, Jason, 
Joel &amp; Cameron Duede; 5 daughters: Julie, Jean, Jill Jantz, Jana 
Hammond &amp; Joy Sides: his sister Kay Mascaro; 33 grandchildren &amp;

Jerome L. Laurin

Marietta Legleiter Walker passed away on a sunny winter afternoon, January 21, 2021, in the loving presence of her husband and children. The cause of her death was bacterial pneumonia. She was 90 years old. 

Marietta was born in western Kansas, on October 14, 1930. A prodigy in accounting, she was hired by local businesses while still in high school. She then went to attain her college degree in business at Fort Hays State University. It was there, at the 1949 freshmen mixer, where she met the love of her life, Richard. After a courtship that included driving to Big Band concerts in Richard's 1947 convertible Studebaker Champion, they wed in 1952, and started their family soon thereafter. They eventually moved to Minneapolis in 1967, where Richard had been promoted to a senior executive position in a national retail company, while Marietta continued investing and managing her own portfolio. 

In 1978, they undertook an opportunity to acquire the La Crosse Furniture Company. Marietta led its design team, and together she and Richard thrived as business partners over the next 20 years. Marietta was an insatiable reader and attentive birdwatcher, feeding her cardinals through the winter and hummingbirds through the summer. Her wit and spark were contagious. 

She was an ace bridge player and avid Twins baseball fan. She loved music, enjoying season tickets at Orchestra Hall concerts for over fifty years. She and Richard were active in their parish, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Golden Valley, Minnesota, leading its adult religious education programs. Among their numerous international trips, their most cherished one was to the Holy Land with their life-long friend and spiritual guide, Archbishop Robert Carlson, of St. Louis. 

Marietta is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Richard. She is also survived by her four children Randall (Patricia), Stan, Michelle Skudlarek (Richard, deceased), and Kevin (Alice), as well as six grandchildren: Sophia, Gregory, Kip, Ellie, Ryan and Margaret. Marietta is also survived by her brother Rudy (Maralyn) Legleiter, sisters Margaret Hamilton and Bernadette Oelkers, sisters-in-law Mary Ann Legleiter &amp; Maureen Legleiter, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, other inlaws and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Lidwina, her brothers Gilbert, Francis, Jules, Paul, Greg and Gene, and her Goddaughter, Stephanie Legleiter Adams. 

Marietta was immensely proud of her daughter Michelle, an award-winning editor, her sons, all physicians, and all her grandchildren. She was happiest when the entire clan was together, especially at the family lake home in Northern Wisconsin. 

She had a deep faith, praying the rosary daily, and lived by the teachings of St. Paul, "Fill your minds with those things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable." Most of all, Marietta was loving and was well-loved. And though she will be deeply missed, she will live on in the lives of those who knew and loved her, and in the divine peace that is far beyond human understanding. 

After a small family service, Marietta will be laid to rest at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. A special service to celebrate her life will be announced after the pandemic has subsided, in the spring. Marietta Legleiter Walker

Thomas Virgil Phelan passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021, at John C. Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 69. 

He was born on November 19, 1951, in Great Bend, Kansas. A Midwestern man at heart, he grew up in the small town of Holyrood, Kansas, and attended Holyrood Rural High School, Barton County Community College, Fort Hays State University and Emporia State University. 

In his younger years, he worked for Air Midwest, Inc. and had the opportunity to travel the globe but loved Kansas most of all. A creative thinker and entrepreneur, Tom conceptualized, founded and operated Plum Creek Kennel with his brothers, Mark and John Phelan and friend Dave Robinette. He was a free spirit and his adventures have become family legends. 

In 2007, Tom moved to Phoenix, Arizona. A proud father and grandfather, he spent his later years supporting his grandchildren from the sidelines of all their sporting events and never turned down the opportunity to babysit. 

Tom is loved and adored by his daughter Tess, son-in-law Spencer and their children, Harper, Quinn and Arie Chupinsky and son Cody, daughter-in-law Lauren and their children Mya, Brooklyn and Parker Phelan. He is also survived by his sister Rita McCarthy and brothers, Patrick, Dennis, Mark and John Phelan, devoted friend Debbie Hughes and 14 nieces and nephews and their families.

Paul Ellsworth David, 79, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday 
morning, February 2, 2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Paul was born April 7, 1941, in Holdrege, Nebraska.&nbsp; He was one of 
thirteen children born to Everett and Retha B. (Geer) David.&nbsp; He grew up
 in Holdrege and Phelps County, Nebraska and graduated from Loomis High 
School in the Class of 1958.

Paul served his country in the U.S. Army as Military Police at Ft. 
Benning, Georgia. After his service was completed, he lived in Denver, 
Colorado a few years before moving to Loomis, NE to work on the family 
farm.

Paul was united in marriage to Patricia Marie Stranberg on June 14, 
1969, in Hamilton County, Nebraska.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four 
children: Penny, Paula, Pepper and Preston.&nbsp; They made their home in 
Holdrege, Minden, Stromsburg, and Osceola, Nebraska before moving to 
Long Island, Kansas. After his retirement they moved to Russell in 2008,
 to be closer to children and grandchildren.

Paul was a farmer. While he worked many other jobs from tire repair 
to aviation parts manufacturing, his heart was on the farm. He spent his
 last 20+ working years in the employ of Valley View Farms doing what he
 loved. He was a member of the Russell American Legion Post #99 and the 
Osceola, Nebraska Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed politics, coin collecting, 
and taking care of his yard and garden.&nbsp; His family, his wife, children 
and grandchildren, were the most important part of his life.

Paul’s surviving family include his wife of 51 years, Patricia of the
 home; two daughters, Penny Davis (Tim) of Hays, Kansas and Paula North 
(Heath) of McCracken, Kansas; two sons, Pepper David (Connie) of Topeka,
 Kansas and Preston David of Norton, Kansas; four brothers, Dwayne David
 (Donna) of Newark, Ohio, Johnnie David (Harriett) of Longmont, 
Colorado, Larry David (Cindy) of Stromsburg, Nebraska and Michael David 
(Trish) of Holdrege, Nebraska; five sisters, Elaine Schell of Holdrege, 
Nebraska, Bonita Sturgis (Evert) of Axtell, Nebraska, Mary Johnson 
(Edward) of Alma, Missouri, Retha Jo Luttrell of Ft. Collins, Colorado 
and Peggy Piepenbrock (Eric) of Phoenix, Arizona. He also leaves nine 
dearly loved grandchildren, Brandon North, Alex Davis, Sydney Davis, 
Logan North, Reid David, Carson North, Chase David, Peyton David and 
Conner David.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Richard David, Ronald David, and Roger David.

A Memorial Service will be held at Congregational Church in Almena, 
Kansas on at a later date. Cremation has taken place and no visitation will be held. A private 
family service will be held at Bainbridge Cemetery in Harlan County, 
Nebraska. Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who

On April 13, 1959, Marcia was born in Hays, KS to her parents Fidelis and Ileen Ruder. She attended Hays High School before going to Barton Community College to get her associate's degree for her ambitions as a Dietary Manager. Marcia cooked for Kennedy Middle School and Good Samaritan. She loved video games, card games and talking with her family.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Geraldine Wittman.

Survivors include her brother, John (Michelle) Ruder of Mulvane; her sister, Melissa (Craig) Irwin of Hays; 2 sons, Brandon Ruder and Shane Seirer of Salina; 7 nephews; 2 nieces; 6 greatnephews; and 11 great nieces.&nbsp;

Norbert W. Urban, 87, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, 
February 9, 2021, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing 
Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Norbert was born July 2, 1933, in Loretto, Kansas, the son of 
Wendelin and Rosemary (Leiker) Urban.&nbsp; He was a lifelong resident of 
Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a farmer and rancher.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and Knights of 
Columbus Council 2340, both of Liebenthal, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a former Rush
 County Commissioner.

Norbert was a veteran of the United States Army.

He enjoyed bowling, visiting with family and friends, family trail rides, and was an avid Royals fan.

On May 24, 1955, he married Elsie A. Kuhn at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.&nbsp;

Survivors include:&nbsp; his wife, Elsie Urban, La Crosse, Kansas; one 
daughter, Pamela Leiker (Richard), La Crosse, Kansas; two sons, Glen 
Urban (Pam), Lindsay, Oklahoma, and Brent Urban, Overland Park, Kansas; 
four grandchildren, Amber Irvin (Corey Seidl), Jason Leiker (Carly), 
Nathan Urban (Shannon), and Anisha Urban; eight great grandchildren, 
Audrey Irvin, Chet Irvin, Hadley Leiker, Lyndon Leiker, Killian Urban, 
Elsa Urban, Rosalyn Urban, and Kamdyn Urban; four sisters, Luceda Hager,
 Lyons, Kansas, Charlene Kreutzer, Stafford, Kansas, Edna Giebler, Hays,
 Kansas, and Doris Armstrong, Springfield, Missouri; one sister in law, 
Mary Urban; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Justin Urban; 
one infant&nbsp; brother, Gilbert Urban; one sister, Bernita Clair; and one 
step sister, Alice Towle.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 18, 2021, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas.

Norbert W. Urban

Doran Jay Margheim, 65, died February 9, 2021, in Salina surrounded 
by his loved ones. Doran was born September 7, 1955, in Hoisington, to 
Rudolph and Martha (Brack) Margheim.&nbsp; Doran married Cynthia (Ferguson) 
November 1980, in Hoisington, and were later divorced.&nbsp;

Doran, a lifetime resident of Hoisington, was a long time, devoted 
driller for L.D. Drilling.&nbsp; He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church,
 and the Emmanuel Brotherhood, Hoisington.

Survivors include; three daughters, Justina Yott of Hoisington, Joni 
Margheim of Salina and Angel Clark of Albert; ten grandchildren, Dylan 
Yott, Dayne Yott, Deryk Yott, Layla Redetzke, Paige, Kaylin and Jace 
Jacobs, Chanler, Tessa, and Trista Riley.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by

Jack J. “Grumpy” Jenkins, 73, passed away February 10, 2021, at 
Integris Hospice House, Oklahoma City, Okla. He was born April 26, 1947,
 at Great Bend, to William &amp; Esther (Queen) Jenkins. He married Iris
 Rich June 16, 1972, at Great Bend and they later divorced.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Jack worked for the City of Great 
Bend in the Parks Department as the cemetery sexton. He was a member of 
First United Methodist Church. Jack loved drag racing and was President 
of the Great Bend Raceway for 11 years.

Survivors include, his daughter, Heather Reed and husband Steven of 
El Reno, Okla.; a brother, John Jenkins of Great Bend; and five 
grandchildren, Wesley Reed and wife Laura, Shelbi Miller and husband 
Matt, Kadin Reed, Brooklyn Reed and Brayden Reed; and two great 
grandchildren, Lexi Reed and Jaxon Reed. He was preceded in death by his
 parents.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, February 12,

Howard Nelson Farr was born on April 17, 1931, in Oneonta, New York,&nbsp; the son of Leon John Farr and Florence Lucille (Davis) Farr.&nbsp; He passed 
away on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at the Logan Manor in Logan, KS at 
the age of 89.

He grew up in Milford, NY.&nbsp; He married Catherin Beams on January 10, 
1954 in West Davenport, NY.&nbsp; He worked as a housekeeper at Mohawk Valley
 Nursing Home in Ilion, NY.&nbsp; He served in the 25th infantry division of the US Army, and he was stationed in Japan and Korea.

Survivors include his wife Catherine of Logan, KS; sons Howard Farr 
of Woodbourne, NY, Charles Farr of Frankfort, NY, and Donald Farr of 
Oxford, NY; his daughters Catherine Rogers of Livingston Manor, NY, Mary
 Cunningham of Cedarville, NY, Eleanor Conrad-Farr of Phillipsburg, KS, 
Janice Smaldone of Frankfort, NY; several grandchildren and great 
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Leona; brothers Floyd and John; and grandchildren Samantha and Elijah.

Howard was known for his sense of humor and passion for helping 
others.&nbsp; His hobbies included gardening, making horseradish, hunting, 
fishing, and telling stories about the one that got away.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; Memorial services will be conducted at a later date.

Joseph G. Haberman, 91, passed away February 10, 2021 at Kansas Soldiers Home, Dodge City.

He was born March 31, 1929 in Rush County, the son of Joseph F. and Anna A. Skolaut Haberman.

An area resident since 1984, he was a farmer, rancher, and painter. 
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the V.F.W, both of 
Larned, Knights of Columbus, Kinsley, and a member of the American 
Legion, Hays. He served in the United States Air Force.

On August 31, 1954 he married Helen Danler in Kinsley; she survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Christine (John) Engle, Topeka; 
three sons, Randy (Jana) Haberman, and Brian (Betty) Haberman, both of 
Larned, Douglas Haberman, Hays; a brother, Henry Haberman, Timken; six 
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Lou 
Haberman; a son, Joseph Haberman; three sisters, Magdalene Haberman, 
Joan Dreher, and Esther May Brack; and a brother, Melvin Haberman.

Anthony “Tony” LeSage, age 83, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021, at the Wheatland Nursing Home in Russell, Kansas.

He was born June 9, 1937, in Pawnee County, Kansas, the eldest of four boys born to Joseph Anthony Hilary “Larry” LeSage and Mary Josephine (Jennings).

Tony married the love of his life Karlene Kay Eichman on September 27, 1956, in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Together they raised four children namely Lex Allen LeSage; Melanie Lynn Bailey; Natali Anne LeSage; and Audrey Kay Berry; the family was blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren; survivors also include two brothers, Roy “Buzzy” LeSage and Randy LeSage.

Tony enlisted into the Air Force directly after graduating high school. &nbsp; In the Air Force he received his training as an Air Traffic Controller. His career with the FAA took his family to New Mexico, California and Colorado.&nbsp; He finished his career at Wichita, Kansas and moved back to Russell County, settling in Bunker Hill.&nbsp; He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed big game hunting.

Tony was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Karlene Kay (Eichman); his parents; and one brother, Terrance “Terry” LeSage. &nbsp;

A private family service and inurnment will be held at a later date.&nbsp; The family suggests memorials to the Bunker Hill Museum in care of the mortuary.&nbsp; &nbsp;

children.&nbsp; She later was an antique dealer.&nbsp; She was a member of St Mary

making handmade quilts for family and her doctors.&nbsp; 
She is survived by 5 Sons- Arthur Heili of Grainfield, Edward Heili of

She was a lifetime member of the Leoti and Tribune communities.&nbsp; She 
also was a member of the Methodist faith and active in the quilt guild 
and a volunteer at the Leoti Thrift Store.

LeRoy James Heinrich

Kitty Ann (Shepherd) Clark was born April 19th, 1941, and 
was a longtime resident of Larned, KS. She was born to Samuel Shepherd 
and Thelma Rose (Caro) Shepherd and was the third of seven siblings, 
whom she loved and adored greatly. &nbsp;Kitty is preceded in death by her 
Sister Betty Stubbfield, Sister Elizabeth Moore, Brother John Shepherd, 
Brother Thomas Shepherd, Sister-in-law Charlotte (Clark) Hines, 
Brother-in-law Wayne Clark and Sister-in-law Charlene Caro.&nbsp; She is 
survived by her Sister Sammie Perkins, Sister Billie Broils, Brother 
Bruce (Debbie) Shepherd, Brother-in-law Bishop Moore, Sister-in-law 
Darlene Shepherd, Brother-in-law Ron Clark, Brother-in-law Jimmy 
Collins, and Sister-in-law Inez Collins.

Kitty married her husband Michael “Mike” Clark Sr. on July 14, 1956,&nbsp; at Escue Chapel in Larned, Kansas. Kitty and Mike shared 59 years of 
marriage until he proceeded her in death on March 14th, 2016.
 From the union of their marriage they had four children. She was 
proceeded in death by her son Michael (Survived by Rene) Clark Jr. She 
is survived by a Son Cecil (Bernadine) Clark and two daughters: Daughter
 Denise Clark-Shellman, and Daughter Brenda (Steven) Tyler. She is also 
survived by 13 Grandchildren: Tyrone Clark, Lamont Clark, Shayla Tyler, 
Nakia Zeigler, Pamela Clark, Shraya (Kasseem Sr.) Grigler, Sharmara 
Shellman, Christopher Clark, Larry Shellman, Deanna Shellman, Stefanie 
Clark, Brittany Clark, and Jene (Jason) Humphrey; 36 Great-Grandchildren
 and a host of Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.

Although she was a longtime resident of Larned, Kansas she also spent
 time living in Colorado Springs, CO. She dedicated herself to being a 
loving and affectionate mother and housewife throughout her children’s 
youth. She then began her career and devoted 35 years of service at the 
Larned State Hospital working in various capacities including: Dietary, 
Production, Licensed Mental Health Aide, Supervisor, and YSS1 at Youth 
Center at Larned (YCAL).

She also was a proud Saucier at Clark’s BBQ, she worked in sales at 
Clark’s Beauty Salon, the proud Co-Owner and Co-Operator of ABC Boutique
 with her sister Billie Broils. She worked various positions at the 
church in Stewardship, Usher, and Communion Board member. She was in the
 Caro Smith Family Reunion Treasury, A Food Pantry Volunteer, Pawnee 
County Voter Registrar, and Relay for Life - American Cancer Society 
member. Kitty was also a member of: The Women of Esque, The Ebony Social
 Club, The Black Heritage Club and The Red Hat Society.

Her hobbies included but were not limited to reading and sharing 
daily inspirations, devotionals, reading her bible, going to and working
 in and around her church. She enjoyed playing games like Phase 10, Bid 
Wiz, Pokeno, Uno, Bingo, Quarters, and Wahoo. She was an avid Bingo 
player and occasional Gambler. Even though her name was Kitty and she 
did not like cats, she often fed stray cats, and other animals in the 
neighborhood. She also enjoyed Crocheting, Fashion, Modeling, Gardening,
 Community and Volunteer work, Outreach toward her neighbors, Baking and
 sending her famous holiday boxes. Kitty really enjoyed Traveling, some 
of her most notable trips were to destinations such as: Las Vegas, 
Washington, California, Texas, Chicago, Arizona, Milwaukee, Niagara 
Falls, Florida, Bahamas, Jamaica, Italy, and Rome. She loved going on 
road trips in the RV with her family. She also enjoyed sitting out by 
the fire sharing laughs and memories with family, friends and loved 
ones.

She was a woman of astounding faith and incredible discernment. She 
was a great listener to many, a confidant and a friend to all. She was 
funny, loving, beautiful, honorary, stubborn at times, competitive, 
honest, warm, the highest amount of loyalty, genuine, forgiving, 
virtuous, she was forward thinking, some might say bossy others may she 
was a strong leader. She was an undeniable blessing to everyone that she
 came into contact with, committing wholly to whatever she was called 
to.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 am Friday, February 12, 2021, at 
Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Damon Bradley presiding along with 
Elder Hill and Pastor Steven. Service will be viewable virtually via 
Facebook Live at <a href="http://www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary">www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary</a>.
 Visitation will be from 9am to 8pm Thursday, February 11, 2021, at 
Beckwith Mortuary with family present from 6pm to 8pm. Private family

Kitty Ann (Shepherd) Clark

Mary Agnes (Otter) Schamberger, 92, passed away, Sunday, February 7, 
2021, at the Sheridan County Long Term Care surrounded by her loving 
family. 

She was born in New Almelo, Kansas on June 21, 1928, the oldest 
child of Albert and Sophia (Bruggeman) Otter. Mary grew up on the farm 
with her eight siblings and attending New Almelo School through eighth 
grade. Mary worked for families in the area by helping them take care 
of the children and helping with housework. She also worked in the New 
Almelo Grocery Store. A young man, Michael “Mike” Schamberger, moved 
back to the area, and an Aunt and cousin set Mike up with a lovely young
 lady, Mary Otter. That blind date turned into a life-long love story. 
 Mike and Mary were married in New Almelo, Kansas on September 14, 1954.
 They made their first home northeast of Hoxie, and in 1957, a neighbor
 came and asked Mike and Mary if they would like to buy his farm. They 
bought the farm where they raised their family of six children and 
farmed until moving to the town of Hoxie. 
 Mary was a homemaker caring for her family. She always had a big 
garden and raised chickens. She canned the produce from the garden, 
butchered the chickens and used the eggs to make sure there was always 
plenty of good food to feed her family. She was a great cook. She 
cooked every meal until entering the Long Term Care. During harvest, 
she prepared big meals for her family working in the fields, something 
they will always remember. Mary was a great seamstress and made many of
 her children’s clothes. She crocheted afghans and made quilts for her 
grandchildren. She was a member of the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic 
Church and St. Frances Cabrini Sodality. She was very involved with 
church and taught religion for many years. Mary was a good mother who 
loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. Family was the
 most important to her. 
 Mary is survived by sons Ray and wife DeeAnn, Ron and wife Sharon, 
John and wife Gina, and Gerry all of Hoxie; daughters, Jeanne Shipley 
and husband Rick of Hoxie and Joan Schippers and husband Charlie of 
Hays; brothers, Conrad Otter of McPherson, Kansas, Alfred Otter and wife
 Betty of New Almelo, Kansas, Harold Otter of Flagstaff, Arizona; Fran 
and wife, Phyllis Otter of Hays, Kansas, and sister Jan Richards and 
husband, Steve of Sandia Park, New Mexico; sisters-in-law, Carol Otter 
of Norton, Kansas, and Julia Otter of Hays, Kansas; grandchildren, 
Meghann Gourley (Brendon), Arielle Simpson (Jed), Michael Schamberger 
(Kaitlyn), Nicole Tremblay(Bret), Leslea Oelke (Brett), Brittany

Mary Agnes (Otter) Schamberger

Donald Neal Blythe, 94, passed away February 7, 2021, at Longmont 
United Hospital, Longmont, Colo. He was born July 1, 1926, in Lincoln, 
KS, to Herbert and Hazel (Lyster) Blythe. He married Phyllis E. (Todd) 
on August 6, 1948, in Williamsburg, KS. They were married over 66 years 
when she passed away in 2015. &nbsp;

On May 30, 1944, Don enlisted in the U.S.N.R., and was discharged on 
March 17, 1946, with the rank of Radioman 3/C. His service to his 
country spanned from WWII to the Korean Conflict. After his service in 
WWII, he attended Kansas State Teachers College on athletic scholarships
 for football and track, where he met Phyllis and graduated with a 
teaching degree. From 1950 to 1952, Don taught at Coldwater, KS.&nbsp; In 
1952, they moved to Great Bend where Don taught industrial arts, drivers
 education, coached and served as athletic director for many years at 
Harrison Junior High and taught industrial arts at Great Bend High 
School, retiring in 1985. Following his retirement, he and Phyllis 
worked at the YMCA in Estes Park, Colo., until 1990.

Don enjoyed coin collecting and loved spending time with his family, 
especially his grandchildren. He was a member of First United Methodist 
Church, American Legion Argonne Post #180, VFW Post #3111, Elks Lodge, 
Masonic Lodge #15, Blue &amp; Royal Arch, Retired Barton County 
Teacher's Association, and Emporia State University Alumni Association.

Survivors include, three sons, Jerry Blythe and wife Susan of Helena,
 Mont., Neal Blythe and wife Sheryl of Arvada, Colo., and Kent Blythe 
and wife Jeanne of Longmont, Colo.; two daughters, Jean Allen and 
husband Bruce of Plano, Tex., and Karen Kotzman and husband Greg of 
Shawnee; fourteen grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. He was 
preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis Blythe; a son, 
Rodney Blythe; and three sisters, Arleen, Ruth, and Revelle.

A private family inurnment will be held at Great Bend Cemetery. There
 will be no public services. Memorials have been designated to 
Alzheimer’s Association or American Legion Argonne Post #180, in care of
 Bryant Funeral Home.

Sara Jane Reed, 75, died February 7, 2021, at Medicalodges of Great 
Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born January 21, 1946, in Wellington, Kansas, the
 daughter of Louis M. and Hazel E. (Russell) Cole.&nbsp; In 1964, Sara 
graduated from Independace High School, Independence, Kansas, and later 
completed 2 years of business school.

On February 6, 1965, she married Larry E. Reed at Grace Memorial Methodist Church, Independence, Kansas.

Sara was a longtime resident of Great Bend, and was a secretary and 
bookkeeper for various business including Roto-Mix in Hoisington. She 
was a member of King Memorial United Methodist Church in Great Bend.&nbsp; A 
few of Sara’s hobbies included wood carving and stained glass.&nbsp; Some of 
her work can even be seen in the windows of her church. She also loved 
to dance, old rock and roll, polka, or country, and her and Larry square
 danced in a club for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Larry E. Reed of the 
home; daughter, Laurie McCurry and husband Mike of Hoisington; son, Eric
 Reed and wife Angela of Garden City; sister, Susan Sutton of Gladstone,
 Missouri; five grandchildren, Cole McCurry and wife Raegan of Great 
Bend, Nolan McCurry and finacee Sara Burwell of Wichita, Luke Reed of 
Wichita, Gwen Reed and Katie Reed, both of Garden City; and one great 
granddaughter, Harper McCurry expected this April.

Friends may sign the book at Bryant Funeral Home, there will be no 
viewing as cremation has taken place. &nbsp;Memorial service will be 
announced at a later date.

Robert Lee “Bob” Seltmann, 100, Nekoma, Kansas, passed away Friday, 
February 5, 2021, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Bob was born November 28, 1920, in Rush County, Kansas, the son of 
Anton and Carrie (Spreier) Seltmann.&nbsp; He was a lifelong resident of Rush
 County, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a farmer and rancher.

He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and VFW Post 3147, both of La Crosse, Kansas.

Bob was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II as a medic.

On January 1, 1949, he married Donna Yeager at the home of her 
mother, Edith Yeager, at Larned, Kansas.&nbsp; To this union were born two 
sons, Richard Lee Seltmann and Thomas Joe Seltmann.&nbsp; She preceded him in
 death October 27, 1975.

On May 10, 1981, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Kelling at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Hays, Kansas.

Survivors include:&nbsp; his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Seltmann; one son, 
Richard Lee Seltmann; two step daughters, Karen Bennett, and Kathy 
Buchanan (Rob); one step grandson, Kody Buchanan; and many nephews and 
nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one son, 
Thomas Seltmann; five brothers, Andy, Albert, Ernest, El Verne, and 
Harley; and four sisters, Sophia, Minnie, Lillian, and Carol.

Graveside service will be Thursday, February 18, 2021, at 1:30 P.M. 
at Nekoma Union Township Cemetery, Nekoma, Kansas, with Pastor Mitch 
Elrod officiating.&nbsp; Interment will be in the Nekoma Union Township 
Cemetery, Nekoma, Kansas.

Robert Lee 'Bob' Seltmann

Jaclyn Louise (Lewis) Burton, 91, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Russell Regional Hospital.

Jaclyn was born July 9, 1929, at her parent’s home in Hominy, 
Oklahoma, the daughter of Harold M. and Juanita S. (Winters) Lewis.&nbsp; 
Jaclyn’s family moved from Oklahoma to Madison, Kansas in her early 
years.&nbsp; Her parents bought a jewelry store where she enjoyed working.&nbsp; 
The Lewis family bought a Russell, Kansas Jewelry store and moved there 
in 1945.&nbsp; After graduating from Russell High School in 1947, she 
attended two years at Ft. Hays State College&nbsp; where she became 
interested in drawing and painting.&nbsp;

Jaclyn was united in marriage to Donald H. Burton on August 29, 1949,&nbsp; in Russell.&nbsp; This union was blessed with a son Hal.&nbsp; They made their 
home in Russell for a few years before moving to Beloit, Kansas, in 
1955.&nbsp; Then in 1959 they moved to Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She began 
actively painting oils and water colors with local artist.&nbsp; In the mid 
1960s, she began the first of many trips to art school in Cloudcroft, 
New Mexico.&nbsp; She enthusiastically persuaded family and friends to take 
at the trips to Cloudcroft Art School.&nbsp; Jaclyn’s relatives that made the
 Cloudcroft pilgrimage included her sister, Dolores Fitzgerald Brandt, 
her father, Harold, and niece Peggy Fitzgerald Campbell, and long time 
friend, Mary Lois Gross.&nbsp; In later years, she enjoyed attending 
workshops and exhibits of The Palco Art Club.

Jaclyn’s surviving family include her husband of 71 years, Donald of 
the home; son, Hal Burton of Russell, Kansas; brother, Roger Lewis of 
Wichita, Kansas; six nieces, one nephew, and her beloved Cairnpoo 
Terrier, Bella.

Jaclyn was preceded in death by her parents, sister Dolores 
Fitzgerald Brandt, niece, Peggy Fitzgerald Campbell, and Aunt Edith 
Winters.

&nbsp;A Memorial Service will be held at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary at

Raymond “Ray” William Kriley passed away on February 8, 2021, at his home
 in Stockton, KS, at the age of 77. He was born on February 17, 1943, to 
Willie and Irene (Parker) Kriley at their rock home in rural Stockton. 
He was married to Lou Corwin on August 9, 1967, at the Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church in Plainville, KS. They were blessed with 5 children: 
Julie, Sherry, Daniel, Amy, and Korina.
 Ray grew up in the Stockton area and graduated from Stockton High 
School in 1961. He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1966 
with an Agricultural Business degree. He served in the United States 
Army Reserves for six years. Ray was a lifelong farmer and caretaker of 
the many animals he loved.
 Ray was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church and Knights of 
Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, driving fast cars (often paying the 
price), watching KU basketball (as well as any sport), playing cards 
with his family, going to the casino, and watching his grandkids in all 
their sporting events. He was determined and persistent, often 
overcoming many hardships through his exceptional faith and witty sense 
of humor. Ray was a role model not only for his children but also 
grandchildren through his honesty, integrity, love of the Lord, family, 
and country, and his dedication to maintaining his physical well-being. 
He was often a man of few words but had a very distinctive presence at 
his children’s competitions.
 Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Lou Kriley of the home in
 Stockton; children, Julie (Corey) Hartner of Belleville, KS, Sherry 
(Michael) Reimer of Great Bend, KS, Daniel (Ginger) Kriley of Stockton, 
Amy (Jimmy) Moison of Ozark, MO, and Korina (Keith) Shelman of Meriden, 
KS; 12 grandchildren; and his “good and faithful dog”, Fancy.
 Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Irene Kriley;

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 15,

7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Stockton.

Michael Paul Mauney, 32, passed away February 6, 2021, at the University of Kansas Health System Pawnee Valley Campus, Larned.

He was born March 17, 1988, in Great Bend, the son of Michael R. and Connie S. Penka Mauney.

A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer. He enjoyed making movies 
with his GoPro while farming, enjoyed music, spending time with friends 
and family, and his cat, Archer.

Survivors include: his parents, Michael and Connie Mauney, Larned; 
two sisters, Shanna (Benn) Maddox, and Crystal (Chad) Elliott, both of 
Great Bend; and 6 nieces and nephews, Jaydan, Breckyn, Raelyn, and Evynn
 Elliott, and Mylee and Gavynn Maddox.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2021, at 
Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Pastor Ryan Webster Presiding.
