Geraldine “Jackie” Pfeifer, 92, Hays, died Sunday, October 4, 2026 at HaysMed.

She was born November 3, 1933 on the family farm southeast Hays, the daughter of Ralph and Pauline (Schmidt) Brull.  In 1951, she graduated from Hays High School, and after graduation she worked at Duckwalls, a job she truly loved. On September 10, 1955, she was united in marriage to Tony “Red” Pfeifer, Jr. in Hays, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 20, 2015.  She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church.

She was a homemaker and a loving caregiver for the children she babysat in her home, her aging parents, and for her husband as his Parkinson’s disease progressed.  Geraldine wrote for the Victoria Visitor, enjoyed her bowling leagues, and, as a talented seamstress, she sewed her own clothes and was often mending clothes for her five sons.  She was an avid reader, and she enjoyed assembling puzzles, listening to RFD Saturday night music, and growing blackberries.  She was wonderful baker and her blackberries were included in many delicious desserts, which were enjoyed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her sons Anthony (Karla Reed), Tim (Karen), Terry (Cathy), and Dave (Kristen), her sister Susie Billinger (Mickey), ten grandchildren Nathan, Nicholas, Samie, Abby (Ryan), Ryan J. (Polly), Anna (Gustavo), Isabelle, Kyli, Tanner (Cammie), and Caleb (Abby), eight great grandchildren Ella, Liam, Hank, Otto, Henley, Levi, Santana, and Mia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tony “Red”, her son Danny, her sister Phyllis Schuster (Al), and her granddaughter Victoria Rose.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, October 9, 2026 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Fr. Damian Richards officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Friday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:30 pm followed by a vigil service at 7:00, both at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church or to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).  Condolences and memories of Geraldine may be shared with her family at www.haysmemorial.com
