Rogene B. Fell

Norma Jean Fellers, 86, Hays, died Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at her home in Hays surrounded by family.

She was born November 11, 1934, in 
Victoria, Kansas, the daughter of John and Catherine (Windholz) Quint.&nbsp; 
She graduated from Victoria High School in 1952 and went on to pursue a 
degree in Physical Education at Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; She met and
 married her late husband, Jeremiah J. “Jerry” Fellers while attending 
FHSU.&nbsp; They were married on June 19, 1957, in Victoria, Kansas and were 
blessed with four children: Ramona, Alan, Jean, and Lisa.&nbsp; Norma worked 
for Safeway grocery stores in Colorado for seventeen years as inventory 
control clerk and front end manager.&nbsp; Jerry and Norma returned to Hays 
after their retirement.&nbsp; She enjoyed bible study groups, quilting, 
sewing, bowling, dancing, and cooking.&nbsp; Most importantly, Norma loved 
her family and Jesus.

Survivors include three daughters:&nbsp; 
Ramona Mayfield and husband John of Lemoore, CA, Jean Zimmerli and 
husband Tracy of Lochbuie, CO, and Lisa Fellers of Hays, one son:&nbsp; Alan 
Fellers and wife Colleen of Albuquerque, NM, six grandchildren, four 
step grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and three step great 
grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and five sisters.

A Celebration of Norma’s life will be 
at 11:00 am on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral 
Home with Pastor Sabian Chaney officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at 
2:00 pm in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in WaKeeney. The family will 
receive friends from 10:00 am until service time on Friday at the 
funeral home.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested and checks may be made payable

Norma Jean Fellers

Rita Mae Younker passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021, at the Redbud 
Village in Plainville, KS, at the age of 84. 

She was born on September 
15, 1936, to George and Genevieve (Meis) Merklinger in Park, KS. Rita was
 united in marriage to Clarence Younker on May 21, 1955 and they were 
blessed with 3 children: Doug, Jenny, and Mindi.
 Rita grew up in Ellis County where she completed grade school. She 
met and married Clarence Younker and the couple moved to Plainville in 
1956 where they spent the rest of their lives. Rita centered her life 
around taking care of not only her own children, but others as well. She
 treated all her daycare kids as if they were her own. She stayed busy 
chasing her kids or someone else’s kids and all while dispatching for 
her husband’s Oil Company, C &amp; L Oil Service. If she caught some 
time for herself, she was talented at sewing and even made some of her 
kids’ clothes and helped make ties for Ties By Libby. She was the most 
patient, kind, and gentle woman. She was a shining example of “loving 
thy neighbor” and living her life for the Lord. Rita was highly involved
 with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, assisting with any of the 
functions the church put on. She was a member of Women’s Guild, and at 
one time worked in the cafeteria for the Sacred Heart Grade School.
 Left to cherish her memory are her children, Doug Younker, Jenny 
Younker, and Mindi (Craig) Wise all of Plainville; sister-in-law Bonnie 
Merklinger of Plainville; and three grandchildren, Colton (Jaci) Wise, 
Kristen Wise (Blake Fritts), and Ashley Wise. 
 She joins in Heaven her parents, George and Genevieve Merklinger; 
husband Clarence Younker; and brothers, Elmer (Betty) Merklinger and 
Robert “Bob” Merklinger.
 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 
at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Burial 
will follow at the St. Catharina Cemetery in Catherine, KS at 2 PM. A 
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 PM until
 8 PM with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 7PM.

Shannon Lee (Stagner) Larsen, 73, Plainville, passed away peacefully on 
March 1, 2021, at her daughter's home. 

She was born March 11, 1947, to 
Dale and Daisy (Wise) Stagner in Hays, KS. She attended school in 
Plainville and graduated high school with the class of 1965 in 
Englewood, CO. On September 11, 1965, she married Michael Larsen in 
Englewood, CO. To this union two children were born, Keith and Sara. 
Mike and Shannon returned to Plainville to raise their family and later
 moved to Hays. 
 Shannon was a Registered Nurse and spent many years working as a 
charge nurse and house supervisor at Hays Medical Center, Russell 
Regional Hospital and Cass Co. Medical Center, where she retired. 
Shannon loved to garden and always found joy in the beauty of what she 
planted. You could always find her sitting amongst her flowers admiring 
the fruits of her labor. Shannon shared her love for gardening with her 
children, her grandchildren and other family. She was a woman of strong 
faith and she looked forward to the day she heard, "Well done good and 
faithful servant!" Shannon was a kind, caring and giving person, always 
there to help someone in need. Her family and especially her 
grand-children, were of utmost importance to her. She thoroughly enjoyed
 family time and loved the stories and memories often shared.
 Shannon is survived by her son, Keith (Katina) and grandson, Brandon
 of Williamsburg, KS; daughter Sara (Jeremy) Pride and grandchildren, 
Dalton, Bethany, Blake, Shaelynn, MaKaylah and Kyndall of Plainville, 
KS. Also surviving are her brother, Paul (Dave) Stagner of Las Vegas, 
NM; sisters: Brenda Markley of Hays, KS; Pam (Jay) Mongeau of Pleasant 
Hill, MO; Lois (Butch) Post of Plainville, KS, and Debbie (Donnie) 
Taylor of Manhattan, KS. She also is survived by numerous cousins, 
nieces and nephews.
 Preceding her in death is her love, Michael Larsen, and her parents, Dale and Daisy Stagner.
 Funeral services will be held Friday, March 5, 2021, at 2 p.m. at 
Plainville United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on 
Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Plumer Overlease Funeral Home 
in Plainville, KS.

&amp; Opal Henry on November 9, 1930, in Mitchell County, KS.
 She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, a daughter Cindy; a son Jimmy and a grandson Lance.
 She is survived by her daughters Sheila Birch of Beloit and Janice 
Heide of Smith Center, KS; a sister Karen of Cushing, OK; 2 
grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.

Eleanor K. Jarrett, 85 passed away February 27, 2021 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.

She was born February 6, 1936 in Sutton, NE, the daughter of Ruben 
and Rose Ackermann Sell.&nbsp; A long time area resident, she was a cook for 
the Hanston School district, Hanston, KS.

She was a member of the Hanston United Methodist Church, United 
Methodist Women, Hanston Senior Center, spent many years working the 
concession stand and was very supportive of all school organizations for
 the Hanston School district. She also was on an advisory board for 
Arrowhead West, Dodge City.

On September 22, 1960 she married Harry Robert “Bob” Jarrett in Westcliffe, CO.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on November 19, 1997.

Survivors include: four sons, Robert (Cindy) Jarrett Jr. Midland, TX,
 Mack (Malynda) Jarrett, Hutchinson, Ruben Jarrett, Hanston, Larry 
(Shelly) Jarrett, Wichita; daughter, Elizabeth (Jim) Lawlor, Ness City; 
twelve grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters, 
Kathy Rose Jarrett, Norma Jean Jarrett; brother, Lavern Sell and a 
sister, Donna Rolo.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Hanston

Eleanor K. Jarrett

Francis “Fritz” Duane Forbes, 88, passed away February 28, 2021, at 
Willow House in Hays. He was born February 24, 1933, at Eureka, to Henry
 and Edna (Auernheiner) Forbes. He married LaVerne Meiers on June 16, 
1967, at Hays.

Coming to Great Bend from Hays in 1969, Francis was a teacher at St. 
Mary's of the Plains and a Professor at Barton Community College for 15 
years. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic
 Church. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, from 1955 to
 1964.

Survivors include, his wife LaVerne Forbes of the home; a son in law,
 Samuel Causby; two grandchildren, Matthew Cates and wife Caity and 
Jennifer Harbin; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death 
by his parents; and a daughter, Sharon Causby.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2021, at St. 
Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Don Bedore presiding with Military 
Rites conducted by the United States Coast Guard Honor Guard. Inurnment 
will be in Calvary Cemetery in Wichita at a later date. 

Memorials have 
been designated to the FD Forbes Scholarship or Holy Family School 
Endowment, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Wanda Ann (Kemper) Huntington, 50, passed away on December 31,2020, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.&nbsp;

She is survived by her parents, Gary and Ellen Kemper of Phillipsburg, KS; sister Brenda Maeske (Jim Klavis) of Chantilly, VA; sons David of Hays, KS and Shawn of Minneapolis, KS; nieces Jessica (Michael) Stone of Reston, VA and Alexandra Spittle (James Sorokos) of Norfolk, Virginia; sisters-in-law Sharon (Lloyd) Sandlin and Shelly Derting of Minneapolis, KS; uncle Marvin Gaines of Logan, KS and many cousins.&nbsp;

Wanda was a free-spirit who loved her family and friends. She read her Bible every day and had a relationship with the lord. She listened to gospel music and attended religious services either in-person or by watching on television. She also loved to watch football and was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.&nbsp;

A memorial service for Wanda will be held at 10:30 a.m.&nbsp; Friday, March 5, 2021, at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.&nbsp; The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. &nbsp; A private inurnment will take place in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, KS.

Wanda Ann (Kemper) Huntington

It was in Larned, KS, on December 19, 1945, Christie Raymond 
Bamberger Jr. joined Chris and Thelma (Henderson) Bamberger, and their 
other three children, Linda, Shirley and Denny. From the hospital, he 
was spirited away to the family’s farm northeast of Jetmore. On Friday, 
February 26, 2021, he was once again spirited away but this time to his 
beautiful and glorious Eternal home.

Junior grew up on the family farm nine miles north of Jetmore amid a
 flurry of fun-loving Bamberger cousins, aunts and uncles and 
neighborhood friends. &nbsp;His mom thought he was a little accident prone as
 a youngster…however, he often laughed… and admitted many times he had 
manufactured “accidents” because it was a sure-fire way to get a new toy
 out of his parents!

In 1959, a little brother, Mike, completed Chris and Thelma’s family. Junior attended the Dry Creek country school until 6th grade when he enrolled in the old, redbrick Jetmore Grade School.

During his high school years, Bambi, as he was called, was an active
 member and officer in FFA. He enjoyed singing in school choirs. And 
while he went out for basketball and track his freshmen and sophomore 
years, his true love was football!&nbsp; He lettered in football and was a 
member of the “J” club his Sophomore year. A fearsome force on the 
gridiron, he perpetuated the connection between the Bamberger name and 
dedicated football players.

&nbsp;After graduation, he attended Dodge City Community College, then went
 on to spend a year at Fort Hays State University. He married Denise Ann
 Litzenberger in 1967. This was in the midst of the Viet Nam War, so in 
the fall of that year, he signed on with the National Guard survey unit 
in Dodge City.&nbsp;&nbsp;

His married life was spent on the farm northeast of Jetmore where 
he worked in tandem with his dad and brothers, Denny, and Mike. &nbsp;&nbsp;Their 
children, Mendy and Kirk, were raised on that farm. Both were involved 
in school sports so most Friday nites found their parents attending 
volleyball, basketball and football games.

Mendy’s and Kirk’s involvement in 4-H included both hog and steer
 projects. Junior could be found most every summer, driving the tractor 
as he helped both kids drag their stubborn county fair steers thru the 
front yard, which was usually the first step in readying them for the 
county fair show ring.&nbsp; He enjoyed those years immensely. During the 
Fair you could find him leaning on the showring fence, smiling with 
pride, as Mendy and Kirk moved around the ring with their animals.

At one point, in the early ‘80s, he and Denise Ann owned and 
operated the Jetmore Flower and Gift Shop. His all-time favorite holiday
 was Valentine’s Day.&nbsp; Many times during the day, he would load the 
finished orders into the van, and holler “I’m heading out!!” He 
absolutely loved delivering flower arrangements, bouquets and gifts to 
the folks in Jetmore and Hanston. He said it made him feel good to see 
the happiness the flowers brought to people.

Junior took great pride in his role as a farmer and steward of this 
land. He was active and sat on the board of the Hodgeman County Soil 
Conservation Service, and won their Bankers Award for Conservation in 
1979. He also sold Conklin products and, for a while, repaired roofs 
with those products.

He was a member of the Jetmore United Methodist Church. When the 
members remodeled the sanctuary in 1984, Junior spent many long hours 
helping with the construction within the church and its dome as well as 
refinishing and staining all the pews. &nbsp;

In the mid 1990s, he and Denise Ann divorced, and Junior’s life’s 
work moved from the farm to being a dairy service technician. This 
involved helping establish the large dairies that were going up in 
Western Kansas.&nbsp; While he was an experienced welder, his real expertise 
was plumbing.&nbsp; His experiences as a farmer equipped him to tackle most 
any problem, find a solution, and then put matters right. &nbsp;

By now he was known to friends as J.R. … and it was during this 
time he met Dorothy Lockett. She became his beloved companion and 
greatest supporter. Her family, which became his family, included five 
daughters, Kelly Rae, Kenna, Karey, Kimme, Kristi…their husbands and 
families.

J.R. loved all the Lockett clan’s activities…this included their 
annual camping treks to Cutty’s Resort in Colorado. Fun times were had 
by all, although it was said that J.R. had developed a love/hate 
relationship with that Cutty campground if truth be told.

“Tanking” down the Arkansas River in cattle tanks, attending Bamberger get togethers
 at Copper Mountain, and taking trips to South Dakota and Pagosa Springs
 to visit family were always memorable times for Dorothy and J.R.

The farm still had a big place in J.R’s life and heart. &nbsp;He enjoyed
 spending time back in Jetmore mending fence and checking on the cattle 
he had in partnership with his brother Mike. When in Kansas City, riding
 around with Kirk to check on painting jobs was a favorite ritual.

And then there were the activities of all those grandchildren!&nbsp; 
He followed their school and sporting events, and attending as many as 
he and Dorothy could squeeze in.&nbsp; When the Tahoe was headed east to 
Kansas City, they took in Brylee’s soccer games and did their best to 
keep up with Bailey! When the Tahoe was headed south, they attended 
Braden and Brooklyn’s softball, basketball and football games in 
Oklahoma. One of J.R.’s proudest moments was being on the sideline last 
December to watch grandson Braden help Tyrone win their first State 
Football Championship in 60 years! &nbsp;Football wise, he was a diehard 
Kansas City Chiefs fan, even though Dorothy was in the chair beside him 
cheering her heart out for the Denver Broncos!

J.R.’s story could not be told without mentioning his love and 
respect for our great country and its values. He held his brother 
Denny’s military service in the highest regard.&nbsp; Before his health 
failed him, he volunteered to help local veterans make 450 wooden 
crosses to be placed on veteran’s graves.&nbsp; Always extending a helping 
hand was just second nature for J.R.

J.R. was a wonderful companion, father, grandfather and friend. 
He added humor, stability, and love to all our lives. He was preceded in
 death by his parents, brother-in-laws Byron Ulery, Laverne Housman and a
 granddaughter, Sarah Huser.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate his life are his companion, Dorothy, 
Coolidge, KS; Mendy (Brad) Stevens, Braden and Brooklyn, Tyrone, OK; 
Kirk (Brandy) Bamberger, Brylee and Bailey, Prairie Village, KS; Kelly 
Rae (Bruce) Howard, Ulysses, KS; Kenna (Doug) Bloyd; Karey (Treg) 
Hatcher, Kimme (Todd) Huser, Syracuse, KS; Kristi (Kevin) Fearno of 
Lakin, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp; Brothers, Dennis (Betty)Bamberger, Mike (Vanessa)

Ulery, Yakima, WA; Lifelong friend, Denise Ann Bamberger, Dodge City,

Christie Raymond Bamberger Jr.

William “Billy” E. Romo, 60, passed away February 27, 2021, at The 
University of Kansas Health Systems, Hays Medical Campus, Hays, Kansas.

He was born May 6, 1960, in Great Bend; the son of Tranquilino and 
Ruth Dringman Romo.&nbsp; A resident of Burdett since 2006 moving from 
Spokane, Washington; he was an Independent Truck Driver.

On March 20, 2006, he married Monique Whetstone in Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.

Other survivors include; four sons, Michael Romo, Jimmy King, both of
 Burdett, Mike ( Diana) Romo and Scott Romo, both of Arizona; two 
daughters, Stephanie King, Larned and Dana (Michael) Herman, Mobile, 
Alabama; six brothers, Michael (Phyllis) Romo, Great Bend,, Lee Basgall,
 Dale Basgall, Don (Terrie) Keesler, all of Larned; Brian Johnson, and T
 (Kimberly) Romo, Idaho; three sisters, La Veta (Dana) Darbro, Americus,
 Leslei (Ray) Lang, and Tomi Romo-Love both of&nbsp; Fallon, Nevada;&nbsp; eleven 
grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; a brother, Frank Keesler and a sister Roberta Lauer.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

William 'Billy' E. Romo

David Ralph Scott, 74, passed away on February 26, 2021, at the Hays 
Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on June 23, 1946, in Ransom,
 Kansas, the son of Ralph and Lavon (Squier) Scott.

David was a highway maintenance man working for the Kansas Department of 
Public Transportation. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, 
VFW Post No. 7972, both of Ransom, and the Sunley-Squier Post No. 382 
American Legion of Brownell. &nbsp;He married Doris Ummel on May 17, 1980, in
 Ransom, Kansas. She survives.

Other survivors include his son, Aaron Scott of Emporia; his 
daughter, Berneice (Gary) George of Russell; 2 grandchildren, Braxton 
and Natalya George, and a brother, Jim (Patti) Scott of Hays. He was 
preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 6, 2021, 10:30 A.M., at 
the First Mennonite Church, Ransom. Burial will be at a later date. 
Friends may sign the book at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, from 9:00 A.M. – 
8:00 P.M., with the family present on Friday, March 5, 2021, from 5:00 -
 7:00 P.M.

Smith Center resident Paul Nix passed away February 26, 2021, at the age of 64.&nbsp; He was born August 23, 1956, in Meridian, TX.

Survivors include his wife Margaret of the home; his son Nicholas of 
Smith Center; his daughter, LaDonna Stice of Stockton; 9 grandchildren 
&amp; 1 great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 5, at 2:00 p.m. in the 
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jay Brandon officiating.&nbsp; 
Burial will follow in the West Cedar Cemetery, Phillips County.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Wednesday &amp; 9:00 to 9:00 Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

Lifelong Goodland, KS resident, Ronald Andrew Van Vleet, 83, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021, at his home in Goodland.&nbsp;

Ronald was born on April 18, 1937, in Goodland to George A. and Margaret E. (Scarrow) Van Vleet.&nbsp; He was one of six children.&nbsp; He attended school in Goodland through the 9th grade. &nbsp;

On October 1, 1955, he married Patsy Eloise McClung at the First Christian Church in Goodland.&nbsp; To this union, five children were born: Rodney, Dean, Gail, Daniel and Lora.

Ronald worked for many years at the Grain Elevator in Goodland.&nbsp; He was a member of the First Christian Church, and the Elks Club in Goodland.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Proceeding him in death were his parents, his wife Patsy, 3 brothers; Charles (Malcolm), Richard and Harold; 2 sisters-in-law Marjorie Van Vleet and Julia Van Vleet; and 2 brothers-in-law Merlyn Blue and Kenneth Smith.

He is survived by his children; Rodney (Marilyn) Van Vleet of Kearney, NE, Dean (Karen) Van Vleet of Larned, KS, Gail Keen (Rod Lindsten) of Goodland, KS, Daniel (Diana) Van Vleet of Springfield, MO, and Lora (Micheal) Lake of Goodland, KS; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.&nbsp; He is also survived by 2 sisters; Esther Smith of Carthage, MS and Wilma Blue of West Valley, UT, and one sister-in-law Emma Van Vleet of Goodland, KS.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at 10:30 AM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland with Pastor Doug Amend officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at the Funeral Home.

Floyd Henry Bose, 91, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021, in Richmond, KS. 
 Floyd was born February 8, 1930, on the family farm in Athol, KS, the 
son of Henry and Sophia (Suchsland) Bose.&nbsp; Floyd graduated from Athol 
High School in 1948 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.&nbsp; 
Floyd would tell everyone that he and his friend Duane Hooper signed up 
for the USMC because the line was the shortest.&nbsp; He went on to say, “Now
 I know why the line was so short.”&nbsp; Floyd was a charter member of Mt. 
Suribachi Det. 105 Marine Corps League which is the oldest detachment in
 the state of Kansas.&nbsp; Shortly after enlisting, Floyd married Bernetta 
Jane Bonnett of Smith Center in 1949.&nbsp;&nbsp; They went on to have three 
children, Kenton Duane, Dion, and Vicki.&nbsp; They later separated in 2003. 
 Floyd Spent his life working on the farm and working with a custom 
cutting crew that would cut wheat.&nbsp; They would start in Texas and travel
 up to South Dakota all summer long.&nbsp; Floyd then went into law 
enforcement where he was a deputy for many years.&nbsp; He then became the 
Sheriff of Smith County, Kansas for 14 years and continued his law 
enforcement career as Chief of Police in Osborne, Kansas. 
Floyd had a passion for many things, but a few of his favorites were 
hunting, fishing, collecting guns and spending time with his great 
grandchildren.&nbsp; Floyd loved fishing so much that he would travel across 
the U.S. just to search for that trophy fish.&nbsp; His daughter Vicki has 
always been his fishing buddy.&nbsp; They would go to Colorado for trout, 
Arkansas for bass, and South Dakota for Walleye.&nbsp; They even went to 
California to go deep sea fishing.&nbsp; If Floyd wasn’t fishing, he was 
hunting or teaching his grandchildren how to shoot.&nbsp; He even taught his 
grandchildren about snipe hunting.&nbsp; Floyd loved to prank people to get a
 good laugh.&nbsp; When describing Floyd, one of the main words that would 
come up would be ornery.&nbsp; Floyd had two sidekicks to help with that.&nbsp; He
 was always getting into trouble with Aaron Meyer and Dale Bonnett.&nbsp; 
Floyd will be remembered by his family and friends for his practical 
jokes, golden heart, and the love and honor he had for his family and 
his country. He was preceded in death by this parents, two 
brothers, Emil and Elmer Bose, two sisters, Alma and Mary, a son Kenton 
Duane Bose, and two grandchildren, Linda Urbanek and Scott Smith. 
 Floyd is survived by two daughters, Dion Bose of Salina, and her 
grandchildren, Michael, Jessalyn, Tristan and Damien, Vicki (Anthony) 
Mersman of Greeley; granddaughter Sarah (Jeremy) Roberts of Garnett and 
three great-grandsons, Alex, Aiden and Ashton Roberts, grandson Thomas 
Mersman of Lawrence, granddaughter Lauren (Cody) Purney of Topeka and 
two great-granddaughters, Athena and Raylynn Purney. Funeral 
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at All 
Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS, with Pastor

David Earl Bray, 77, of Natoma, Kansas, passed away of Covid 
complications on Friday, February 26, 2021, at the Hays Medical Center, 
surrounded by his wife and children.

Dave was born on May 4, 1943, in Kanopolis, Kansas, the son of 
William and Kathryn (Canaday) Bray.&nbsp; As a child, his family lived in 
Colorado and Wyoming where his father worked in the mines, before 
returning to Kanopolis. He served in the Navy.&nbsp; He married Marlene J. 
Pooley on August 12, 1966, in Alva, Oklahoma.&nbsp; From this union Dave and 
Marlene were blessed with 3 children Neal, Teresa and Carmen.&nbsp; Dave 
worked in the oilfield most of his life working as a roustabout, pulling
 unit operator and pumper.&nbsp; He loved going to races at the local dirt 
tracks. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially
 his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his wife Marlene of the home, son Neal (Julie), 
daughters Teresa Bray and Carmen George (Dustin) all of Natoma; sisters 
Barbara Ahlquist of Salina and Bonnie (Jack) Robison of Sylvan Grove. 
Grandkids Keshia (John) Williams, Chase (Dayanara) Laffery, Ryan Bray, 
Jensen Farrington, Erika George, Derek George, Jeremy Bray and Meadow 
Wickham.&nbsp; He was blessed with&nbsp; 7 great-grandkids. He leaves behind a 
host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Julia Long and Mary 
Markle and brother Billy Bray. Cremation has been selected by the 
family.&nbsp; An informal graveside service will be held at the Natoma 
Cemetery on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.&nbsp;

Mary Beth Gorden, age 68, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 
13, 2020, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. She was 
born on August 1, 1952, in Geneseo, Illinois, the daughter of Bill and 
Eunice Marchand Rambo Jr. In 1986, Mary Beth moved with her family from 
Illinois to Sublette, Kansas, then in 1987 they moved to Garden City, 
Kansas. In 1989, they moved to Leoti, Kansas, and then to Scott City, 
Kansas in 2015.

She was a member of Christ Covenant Church in Leoti, Kansas.

On September 6, 1975, she married Arlan Gorden at Sacred Heart Church in Annawan, Illinois. He survives.

Loretta Maxine (Eisenbise) Shaw left us on February 26, 2021, to be 
reunited with Dean and Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior. Loretta was 
born six miles south of Quinter, KS on the farm, August 28, 1926.

There on the farm, she grew up with her parents, Ethel and Byron, her
 brother, Marion, and sister, Geneva. They left the farm and traveled 
with Byron for his work when the Depression hit, and they weren't able 
to maintain life on the farm. During that time, they lived in many 
places in Kansas and Oklahoma. At the end of the Depression, they 
returned to the area and lived in Grainfield. During her time living in 
Grainfield, she met a young fella named Dean who loved her from the 
first time he saw her. Loretta graduated high school in Grainfield in 
1944. She and Dean started their 60 years of marriage on September 26, 
1946. During the early years of their marriage, they lived in both 
Quinter and Grainfield but settled permanently in Grainfield in 1949.

Loretta asked for advice from her mom in the early years of marriage 
and Ethel’s words stuck with Loretta her entire married life. “If your 
husband asks you if you want to go with him, you always go, or someday 
he may quit asking.” Because this stuck with her, she and Dean took many
 trips together to pick up vehicles for the customers, attend Ford 
meetings, and go see family and even just little cruises out to the farm
 ground to look around. Because of helping Dean pick up all kinds of 
vehicles all over the country, Loretta could drive just about anything 
with 4 or more wheels. In December of 1947 they welcomed their first 
child, Nancy, In September of 1951 Donna was born and finally, Jim 
completed their family in 1961.

Loretta was dedicated to family. As her children grew up and got 
involved in activities, she was always there to support them. Over the 
years she drove a bus for field trips, sponsored and chaperoned youth 
group trips. When grandkids and great-grandkids came along, she did her 
best to never miss one of their special events. She was a great 
storyteller and loved to share her experiences and family stories over a
 cup of coffee or a glass of tea.

The United Methodist Church in Grainfield was her church home since 
1958, and she sang in the choir as long as they were active. Loretta was
 also active with the women of the church, providing meals and whatever 
she could do to pitch in. She also was a part of the Do What You Want 
Club, a hobby social group that just enjoyed each other’s company.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Ethel and Byron; husband 
Dean; brother Marion; sisters Vivian and Geneva; daughter Donna; and 
other family and friends.&nbsp; 

Her legacy lives on through her daughter 
Nancy (Vick) of Wichita, Kansas; son Jim of Grainfield; son-in-law Rand 
Levy of Champion, Nebraska; Grandkids Cherise (Brock) Moore of Derby, 
Kansas, Lori (Dusty) Stutzman of Arnold, Nebraska, Amber (Brian) Harvey 
of Wichita, and Carl (Julie) Levy of Champion, Nebraska; great-grandkids
 William Harvey, Deana Harvey, Aubree Stutzman, Alexsis Stutzman, 
Abigail Stutzman, and Collins Levy; and many nieces, nephews, and other 
family and friends.

Quinter and Grainfield but settled permanently in Grainfield in 1949.Loretta asked for advice from her mom in the early years of marriage 
and Ethel’s words stuck with Loretta her entire married life. “If your 
husband asks you if you want to go with him, you always go, or someday 
he may quit asking.” Because this stuck with her, she and Dean took many
 trips together to pick up vehicles for the customers, attend Ford 
meetings, and go see family and even just little cruises out to the farm
 ground to look around. Because of helping Dean pick up all kinds of 
vehicles all over the country, Loretta could drive just about anything 
with 4 or more wheels. In December of 1947 they welcomed their first 
child, Nancy, In September of 1951 Donna was born and finally, Jim 
completed their family in 1961.Loretta was dedicated to family. As her children grew up and got 
involved in activities, she was always there to support them. Over the 
years she drove a bus for field trips, sponsored and chaperoned youth 
group trips. When grandkids and great-grandkids came along, she did her 
best to never miss one of their special events. She was a great 
storyteller and loved to share her experiences and family stories over a
 cup of coffee or a glass of tea.The United Methodist Church in Grainfield was her church home since 
1958, and she sang in the choir as long as they were active. Loretta was
 also active with the women of the church, providing meals and whatever 
she could do to pitch in. She also was a part of the Do What You Want 
Club, a hobby social group that just enjoyed each other’s company.She was proceeded in death by her parents Ethel and Byron; husband 
Dean; brother Marion; sisters Vivian and Geneva; daughter Donna; and 
other family and friends.&nbsp; Her legacy lives on through her daughter 
Nancy (Vick) of Wichita, Kansas; son Jim of Grainfield; son-in-law Rand 
Levy of Champion, Nebraska; Grandkids Cherise (Brock) Moore of Derby, 
Kansas, Lori (Dusty) Stutzman of Arnold, Nebraska, Amber (Brian) Harvey 
of Wichita, and Carl (Julie) Levy of Champion, Nebraska; great-grandkids
 William Harvey, Deana Harvey, Aubree Stutzman, Alexsis Stutzman, 
Abigail Stutzman, and Collins Levy; and many nieces, nephews, and other

Margaret Lorene (McCormick) Williams Gargan, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021, at her home in Hays, Kansas.

She was born October 16, 1915, in 
Chapman, Kansas to William and Nellie B. (Miller) McCormick.&nbsp; She grew 
up at the farm south of Chapman and along with her siblings, she 
attended schools all 12 years in Chapman.&nbsp; She graduated from Dickinson 
Community High School in 1933.&nbsp; After graduation, Margaret began her 
career with Southwestern Bell Telephone in Abilene and was transferred 
to the Hays office in 1936.&nbsp; She married Eugene L. Williams on June 6, 
1939 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Chapman.&nbsp; Gene and Margaret 
lived in Hays until 1946 when they moved to Evergreen, Colorado and 
raised their daughter, Barbara.&nbsp; Margaret transferred to the Mountain 
Bell Telephone office from which she retired in 1976.&nbsp; Gene preceded her
 in death in 1961.&nbsp; On January 6, 1968, Margaret married Justin Gargan 
at Christ the King Church in Evergreen, Colorado.&nbsp; Justin preceded her 
in death in 1979.

Margaret was active in community 
service as a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Telephone Pioneers, Chapman 
Area Preservation Society, and volunteered with the Red Cross, St. 
Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado and Hays Medical Center in Hays, 
Kansas.

Family has always been important to 
Margaret.&nbsp; She would fly out to the Northwest to visit her daughter 
Barb, son-in-law Mike, and grandchildren. She enjoyed phone calls from 
her grandchildren and pictures of her great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Being the 
oldest, Margaret became the matriarch of the family after her mother 
passed away.&nbsp; Her sister Bernardine lived with Margaret and Gene during 
her high school years.&nbsp; Margaret was the contact for her brothers during
 WW11.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, 
Barbara (Mike) Mahoney, Moscow, ID; step-daughters Kathleen Gargan and 
Ceil (Gargan) Martinez, and step-son William Gargan; grandchildren Kelly
 Isakson, Moscow ID; Mickey (Mary) Mahoney, Duffy (Leah) Mahoney, 
Sandpoint, ID; and Molly Mahoney, Boise, ID; seven great-grandchildren, 
Cody, Connor and Kendall Jo Isakson, Bailey, Piper, and Millie Mahoney, 
and Indiana Mahoney, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, Will and Nell McCormick, siblings and spouses, Bernardine 
(Leonard) Dinges, Thomas (Frieda), Ernest (Betty), William, Harold 
(Rita), Bernard, and Raymond (Laura) and a grandson-in-law, Pete 
Isakson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays,
 with Fr. Brian Lager officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be at 2:00 pm in St. 
Patrick's Cemetery, Chapman, with Fr. Fred Gatschet officiating.&nbsp; 
Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Thursday at Hays Memorial 
Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 am.&nbsp; The family 
requests that all in attendance wear masks.&nbsp; 

In lieu of flowers, 
memorials may be made payable to: St. Patrick's Cemetery or St. Joseph

Barbara Sue Lohrding, 81, passed away February 25, 2021, in Great 
Bend.&nbsp; She was born July 10, 1939, in Cambridge, to R.C. and Sue 
(Holman) Wadleigh.&nbsp;

Barbara, a Great Bend resident since 1970, coming from Coldwater, 
owned and operated Forever Country antique shop for many years.&nbsp; Antique
 collecting was her life's zeal, however, Barbara's heartfelt passion 
was showing kindness to others, doing her part to make the world a 
better place.&nbsp; She was especially proud of her grandchildren, staying in
 touch with them, even though they were separated by many miles.

Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Lohrding and wife Darby of 
Lecompton; one daughter, Linda Afzal and husband Tariq of Tampa, Fla.; 
one sister: Carol Kern and husband Jim of Jenks, Okla.; three 
grandchildren, Mariam Afzal, Aadam Afzal and Aziza Afzal; two nephews 
Greg Wadleigh and wife Tammy, and Brent Wadleigh and wife Sara; and two 
nieces, Missy Kern Hill and husband Randy, and Paula (Wadleigh) Hansen 
and husband Steve.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ron 
Wadleigh, Robert “Bob” Wadleigh and Richard “Dick” Wadleigh.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at 
Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge, with Rev. Marsha Granberry presiding.&nbsp; 
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday, March 1, 2021, at 
Bryant Funeral Home.&nbsp; Memorials may be given to Barton County Food Bank,

Dolores Ann Haselhorst, age 86, of Antonino, Kansas, passed away Friday February 26, 2021, at Via Christi Village Hays. She was born July 19, 1934, in Ellis County Kansas to Felix T. and Anna (Klaus) Werth. She married Orville Haselhorst nearly 69 years ago in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Antonino on May 5, 1952. Dolores was a homemaker and had worked at Fort Hays State University in McMindes Hall. She was an involved member of Our Lady Help of Christians parish and Christian Mothers. Dolores enjoyed cooking, gardening, music, playing piano and precious time with her family that she held so dear to her heart. Steeped in Faith, Dolores met each day with a firm resolve to serve the Lord and to help others. She is survived by her husband Orville of Antonino, three sons, Art Haselhorst and wife Shirley (Legleiter), Allen Haselhorst, and Wayne Haselhorst all of Antonino; daughter Ann Cook and husband Ron of Manhattan, Kansas; &nbsp;brother, Harvey Werth (wife Dorothy) of Hays; five grandchildren, Travis Haselhorst, Tyler and wife (Jobeth) Haselhorst, Trey and wife (Laura) Haselhorst, Danielle Cook, Brandon Cook and fiancé Alissa, as well as three great grandchildren, Tanner Haselhorst, Jillyan Sheldon, and Oliver Haselhorst.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville’s parents, two brothers Harold (wife Betty) and Charles Werth, daughter-in-law Brenda (Arnold) Haselhorst, granddaughter Lisa Pfannenstiel and Orville’s brothers Walter (wife Agedia), Evarist (wife Alice), Merlin and Dennis.
