Tracy Leann Lowe

Clayton E. Karst, 95, died February 26, 2021, at Country Place Senior
 Living, Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born March 9, 1925, in Galatia, 
Kansas, the son of Edd and Charlotte (Dumler) Karst.&nbsp; Clayton was a 1943
 graduate of Hoisington High School. A WWII veteran, Clayton served in 
the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal, and was stationed in 
Hawaii from 1943 to 1946.

Clayton worked for the family business, Karst Motor Company for 16 
years and later as a counterman for Big A Auto Parts retiring in 1987. 
He was a longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where he served on
 the council and helped in the maintance of the church in many aspects.&nbsp;
 He was a former commander of &nbsp;the Hoisington American Legion Post #286 
and a lifetime member of the Russell V.F.W. #6240, participating in the 
honor guard for many years.

On June 2, 1946, he married Hilda E. Herbel in Hoisington.&nbsp; She 
preceded him in death on July 19, 1993.&nbsp; He then married Helen E. Miller
 on September 28, 1996, in Hoisington.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on 
December 21, 2009.

He is survived by two daughters; Janice Terry and husband David of 
Overland Park, and Susan LaFaver of Greeley, Colorado; sister, Pauline 
Ray of Junction City; and two grandchildren, Amy La Faver of Venice, 
Florida and Angela Walts of Odessa, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives; brother, Paul Karst, and a sister, Isabelle Dumler.

Visitation will be Sunday 1 to 6 p.m., and Monday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Emmanuel Lutheran 
Church, Hoisington, with Reverend Wayne Baldyga presiding. Burial will 
follow at Hoisington Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the 
United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Emmanuel 
Lutheran Church, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, 
Hoisington, KS 67544.

Clayton E. Karst

Eleanor Ann Dailey, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021, at 
Medicalodges of Great Bend. She was born September 4, 1940, in Great 
Bend, the daughter of John and Edith Ann (Kummer) Dailey.

Eleanor has been a lifelong resident of Great Bend. She graduated 
Great Bend High School with the Class of 1958. She was a beautician for 
thirty five years and a PBX clerk for CKMC for forty years. Eleanor was a
 member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and the
 altar society.

Survivors include a brother, Richard “Dick” Dailey of Great Bend; a 
sister, Janiece Burke of Denver, Colo.; nineteen nieces and nephews; and
 many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her 
parents; five brothers, James Dailey, Jerry Dailey, William Dailey, Jack
 Dailey, Jr., and Donald “Dee” Dailey; four sisters, Dorthea Hershey, 
Peggy Dailey, Patricia Dillard and Gwen Bible; and a nephew, John 
Dailey.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place and 
Celebration of Life services will be announced at a later date. 
Memorials have been designated to Prince of Peace Parish, Kindred 
Hospice or Medicalodges of Great Bend, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Eleanor Ann Dailey

Janice Rae (Stewart) Marshall, 82, of Russell, Kansas passed away on Thursday, Feb. 25th, 2021 at the Russell Regional Hospital, Russell, KS.

Janice was born on May 1, 1938 in Hays, KS to Margaret (Boxberger) and Louis Kenneth Stewart. Janice lived her entire life in Russell and graduated from Russell High School with the class of 1956.

She married the love of her life, Malcolm Marshall on September 7, 1958 and they recently celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary.&nbsp; Through this marriage, they were blessed with three children; LaRissa Morse, Aaron Marshall and Eric Marshall.

Janice held many accounting positions in the Russell area for years including Bennett &amp; Roberts, &nbsp;Red Shaw Oil, Rudy Herman Oil Operations and &nbsp;Elmer Fox &amp; Company.&nbsp;&nbsp; On May 1, 1971, Janice and Malcolm purchased the Lewis Jewelry Store from Harold and Juanita Lewis at 710 Main St and renamed it Marshall’s Jewelry &amp; Gifts. &nbsp;A few years later, they moved the store to 708 Main St. where they incorporated a fresh and silk flower shop to the back; hence Marshall’s Flowers. Janice graduated from Floral Design School in Lawrence, Kansas and was able to use her skills in developing and designing the flower shop. This business was built and continued for nearly 30 years before she retired in May 1999.

Janice enjoyed bowling, playing bridge as she spearheaded Bridge-O-Rama for her sorority, The Delta Kappa Gamma of Beta Sigma Phi, traveling to see her children and grandchildren; always stopping off at the Casinos along the way! &nbsp;You could always find her at the draw poker machines! &nbsp;She was a faithful servant of God and member of St. John Lutheran Church, Russell, Kansas; serving the parish as a lecturer, greeter and organist for over 40 years.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Malcolm of the home; daughter LaRissa Morse of Shawnee, Kansas; sons, Aaron Marshall (Paula)of Omaha, Nebraska and Eric Marshall (Linda)of Kearney, Missouri. She has one sister, Linda Sue Motzner (Bill) of Lexington, Nebraska. &nbsp;She has six grandchildren, Kayla Owens (Blake) and Chloe Morse, Matthew and Caroline Marshall and Miranda and Marleigh Marshall along with many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. &nbsp;Janice was preceded in death are her parents and son-in-law, Gary Morse.

Celebration of Janice’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 1, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church, 5th and Main St. in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 1pm-8pm, Sunday, February, 28, 2021 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6-7pm.

Janice Rae (Stewart) Marshall

Thomas Jacob Foran passed away at the Hays Medical Center on Wednesday, 
February 24, 2021 at the age of 74. Tom was born on April 29, 1946 to 
William and Mary (Vopat) Foran in Ellsworth County, Kansas. 
 Tom was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County. He was a stand-out 
athlete for Wilson High School; he was All-State for football and 
basketball and also played baseball. He graduated in 1964 and was 
recruited by Bethany College to play football. After two years at 
Bethany he furthered his education and continued to play college 
football at Fort Hays State. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1968. He 
then returned to farming in Wilson. 
 Tom’s favorite past time was playing poker with his “poker buddies”.
 He played poker seriously with his friends, and we aren’t talking 
pennies and dimes type of poker. He was serious about his cards and did 
not fiddle with playing against anyone who didn’t understand the game or
 couldn’t play to his level, including his nieces. You could say farming
 and poker were his life, but he made sure that there was time to take 
the best care of his parents. A gentle giant that was a kind and genuine
 man, Tom was loved by all and a friend to everyone. He never knew a 
stranger and didn’t have a bad word to say about anyone. His intellect 
was admired by all who knew him, and his friendship was cherished by 
those who became close with him. His loss will leave a place in the 
hearts and lives of family and friends no one else can fill; however, he
 leaves a collection of memories and precious times we shared, true 
keepsakes of our hearts that will remain forever.
 Tom is survived by his siblings, Michael Dennis Foran of Wichita and
 Mary Alice Foran-Bush of Elizabeth Town, KY; twelve nieces and nephews;
 and a multitude of great-nieces and nephews. 
 He joins in heaven his parents, William and Mary Foran; brother, 
Kevin (Dorothy) Foran; sister, Carolyn (Leonard) Galliart; 
brother-in-law, Elmer “Sunny” Bush; two nephews, William Bush and 
Timothy Galliart; and a niece, Patricia Galliart.
 A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at The
 Iron Lion/Old Rec Center from 2PM until 6PM. A book signing will be 
held on Friday at the funeral home in Wilson from 4PM until 8PM.

Michael Allen Symns, 41, of Saratoga, Wyoming, died February 22, 2021,
 at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born November 14, 1979, 
in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Robert Allen and Regina L. (Cade) 
Symns.

Michael lived in Goddard and Hays, Kansas as a child and attended 
Hays High School.&nbsp; He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 800 of 
Bar Nunn, Wyoming and enjoyed operating heavy equipment as a career.&nbsp; He
 recently worked on the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Wind Energy project
 located near Sinclair and Rawlins in Carbon County, Wyoming.&nbsp; He was an
 avid hunter and fisherman and was most at home in the great outdoors of
 both Kansas and Wyoming.&nbsp;

He is survived by: his daughter, Sage Marie Symns of Texas; mother, 
Regina Cade (Bradley Stiggins), Partridge, Kansas; his father, Robert 
(Sabrina) Symns, Saratoga, Wyoming; brother,&nbsp; Lloyd Symns, Partridge, 
Kansas; grandmother,&nbsp; Marilyn Cade, Abbyville, Kansas; along with 
numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

&nbsp;He was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs J.C. Symns and George William (Bill) Cade.

Celebration of Life Services are planned for later this year in both 
Wyoming and Kansas.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to 
either the National MS Society or a charity of your choice.

Michael Allen Symns

Windell Grant Clark, son of the late Loyal Clark and Mary Carter Clark was born January 27, 1956, in Hill City, Kansas.

He passed away at his residence in Colorado Springs on February 2, 
2021. He attended Hoxie High School and after enlisting in the Army in 
1975, he graduated from Frankfurt American High School, Frankfurt 
Germany in 1976. He was Honorably Discharged from the Army in 1978.

Windell resided for many years in WaKeeney, Kansas, where he was known for his crafty skills and his garage hospitality.

Windell was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim Clark.

Windell will be remembered by his children: Adam (Kodi) Clark of 
Loveland, CO, Michael (Lyn) Clark of Colorado Springs, CO, and Nicole 
(Billie) Clark of Florence, CO; grandchildren: Hayley and Sawyer Clark 
of Loveland, CO, Shania (Esteban) Soto of Las Vegas, NV, Joey, Dylan,

Windell Grant Clark

Gertrude V. Brown, age 101, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 
2021, at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born
 on August 20, 1919, in Albert, Kansas, the daughter of Lee Elmer and 
Margaret Teten Cauthon.&nbsp; Gertrude was a resident of Scott City, Kansas 
since 1932, moving from Albert, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On July 31, 1937, she married Lee L. Brown in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on October 4, 2002, in Scott City, Kansas.

Millie M. Spears, 84, of Osborne, KS, passed away on Tuesday, 
February 23, 2021, at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital of Osborne, 
KS. &nbsp;She was born in Osborne County on November 2, 1936 to the proud

She lived all her life in the Osborne County area. &nbsp;She graduated from the Osborne High School in 1954. &nbsp;

Florina M. 'Flo' Beilman

Carol Lynn Albertson was born July 29, 1932, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Hays, Kansas, to Henry and Amelia Albertson. 
 Carol had a close, affectionate relationship with her parents. She 
was very proud that Henry served in World War I under Captain Harry S. 
Truman and that he was the Graham County Magistrate Judge for 20 years. 
Amelia (Millie) was a loving mother who also served as Carol’s teacher 
at Glendale, a one-room schoolhouse near Hill City. Carol was very 
dedicated to taking care of Amelia as she aged, visiting her daily while
 she resided at Dawson Place. 
 As Carol was growing up, Curtis, her older brother by four years, 
loved looking out for her. They formed a great bond. Through the years 
she enjoyed visiting him in Tucson. At the age of 14, Carol met Allen 
Trexler while making sodas at the local drugstore. He began walking her 
home and they dated off and on for the next five years. They became 
engaged while attending Fort Hays State College. Carol and Curtis lived 
with their aunt and uncle, Fred and Ruby Albertson, while they attended 
college. Fred was a professor at Fort Hays and the Albertson Hall on 
campus was named in honor of him. 
 Allen and Carol were married February 17, 1952, in Hill City. With 
the help of Allen’s grandfather, they built a home four miles north of 
town later that year. Allen had begun farming with his dad and grandad. 
He was also working at the local grocery store owned by his parents, the
 Trexler Store. Carol worked for F&amp;M Bank, Kansas-Nebraska Gas 
Company and was a loan clerk for USDA. 
 In 1954, their first child Bradley Allen was born. Their daughter, 
Alynn Renee, arrived in 1958 to complete the family. Carol was active in
 the United Methodist Church, where she and her friend Loree began the 
tradition of the church bazaar. Carol liked helping her children with 
4-H projects, cooking, baking, listening to Lynn sing and watching 
Brad’s sports activities. 
 She especially enjoyed attending Lynn’s band gigs and listening to 
Brad speak while he served as the Kansas State FFA President. Carol also
 enjoyed working part-time at the Fashion Center and at a local floral 
shop. 
 In 1976, Carol was chosen as the most beautiful, naturally 
gray-haired woman in a nationwide search. She was flown to Chicago and 
photographed there. The portrait on this program was hung in beauty 
shops all over the world. Allen remembers seeing her photo in a mall in 
Montreal when they traveled to New England and Canada in the fall of 
that same year. 
 One of Carol’s greatest joys was being a grandmother to Meredith, 
Brittney, Gabe, and Keali. She always had a collection of bears ready 
for tea parties and loved baking with her granddaughters. Her signature 
dessert was her famous homemade apple pie. Her home was always open for 
sleepovers and she also had great memories of hosting many family 
holidays. She and Allen loved attending horse shows as Meredith and 
Brittney grew up. One summer they followed Brad, Kim, and the girls to 
32 locations, never missing a moment! 
 Over the last few years, Carol enjoyed spending time with her 
great-grandchildren: Blakeli, Briggs, Myles, and Marli. She also looked 
forward to family dinners at Kim’s house on the farm and on Jeff and 
Meredith’s deck. She and Allen made short road trips to Norton to share 
meals with Ty and Lynn as well. 
 February 17, 2021, Carol and Allen celebrated their 69th wedding 
anniversary. Four days later, February 22, 2021, she departed this earth
 in Hill City. Carol was preceded in death by her parents Henry and 
Amelia Albertson; her brother, Curtis Albertson; and her son, Bradley 
Trexler. Carol is survived by her husband, Allen Trexler, Hill City; 
daughter, Alynn (Ty) Bruton, Norton; daughter-in-law, Kim Trexler, Hill 
City; grandchildren: Meredith (Jeff) Drees, Hill City, Brittney (Jerad) 
Johnson, Colby, Gabe Bruton, Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Keali Bruton, 
Norton; and eight great-grandchildren.

Kenneth L. “Ken” Kraus, 96, Omaha, Nebraska, died Wednesday, February 24, 2021, in Omaha.

He was born February 8, 1925, in Hays, 
Kansas, to his proud parents, Carl and Sadie (Wilson) Kraus on a farm 
South of Hays. He graduated from Hays High School in 1943.&nbsp; On June 1, 
1947, he was united in marriage to Dorothy “Dottie” Harris in Hays, and 
they celebrated 73 years of marriage. He was a farmer and dairymen for 
most of his life.

He was a Lifetime member of the First 
United Methodist Church and served on many committees. He belonged to 
the Hays Lion’s Club and served as their Vice President and President. 
Ken served on the board of the Hays Farmers Co-op and was Chairmen of 
Epworth Towers a senior living apartment. He also served on the board of
 the Hays Plaza Apartments serving low-income families.

Ken has received many recognitions for a
 lifetime farming career. He was Chairman of the Ellis County Dairy 
Board and on the board of the Ellis County Dairy Herd Improvement. Ken 
was director of Southern Region Association Milk Producers, was elected 
to United Dairy Industry board of directors, and named to the Dairy 
Research Inc. Project Security Committee.&nbsp;

Award’s received during his lifetime as
 a dairyman were, the Balance Farming and Family for county and state, 
Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Young Farmer award, and Ellis County 
Conversation award in addition to the Distinguished Dairyman award. In 
1982, he was awarded the Kansas Master Farmer award. This same 
achievement was also given to his father, Carl, in 1928.

Survivors include his wife Dottie of 
Omaha, NE, a daughter: Pam (Gordon) Henrickson of Omaha, NE, a son: 
Steve (Pattie) Kraus of Atlanta, GA, two grandchildren: Aaron (Ruthie) 
Henrickson and Emily Kraus, a great grandchild: Nate Jarrow, and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Eldon, John, Warren, and Harold, and his sister: Dorothy Bemis.

A celebration of Ken’s life will be at 
10:00 am on Monday, March 1, 2021, at Hays First United Methodist Church,
 with Rev. Delbert Stanton officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Fort Hays
 Memorial Gardens Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 10:00

Kansas, on January 15, 1939 to Albert and Mary Hlad, and passed away on 
February 14, 2021 in Prescott, Arizona.
 Geraldine graduated as Valedictorian from Sylvan Grove High School, 
attended Faith Baptist Bible College and Commercial Extension School of 
Commerce. Throughout her career, she was a secretary for Mutual of Omaha, Eastman Kodak, Nebraska State 
College-Kearney, and Proctor and Gamble, retiring in 2002. She enjoyed, 
reading, singing and playing organ and piano.
 She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mary Hlad, and 
brother Ed Hlad. She is survived by her husband, Dr. John Meyer, her 
sons Dr. David Meyer and Roger Meyer, her daughter, Karen Kelly,
 her grandchildren John Paul Kelly, Jessica Fadel, James Kelly, Grant
 Meyer, Gabby Meyer, Gavin Meyer and Garin Meyer, her 
great-grandchildren Isaiah and Keegan Kelly, her brother Ron Hlad, and 
sister

Geraldine Marie Meyer

Gretchen Muriel Scheck, 82, passed away February 24, 2021, at Great 
Bend Health &amp; Rehab. She was born April 11, 1938, at Kansas City, 
Kan., the daughter of Henry &amp; Mabel (Frisbie) Bradfield. She married
 Hollis Earl Watkins of Waco, Texas on January 29, 1955, at Great Bend. 
They were divorced in 1966. She then married Julius Scheck, July 19, 
1975, at Great Bend.

She graduated from Barton County Community College in 1982, with an 
Associate’s Degree in Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse at
 CKMC in ICU, she then went into management as the manager of Patient 
Planning Services and manager of Central Kansas Health Services.

Mrs. Scheck was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Great
 Bend. She served as Republican Precinct Committee 1995 to 1999, and a 
member of the Great Bend City Council from 1997 to 1999.

Survivors include, her husband, Julius Scheck of the home; three 
sons, Kerry Watkins and wife Jan of Ellinwood, Kevin Watkins and wife 
Pam of Independence, Kan., and Chief Master Sergeant Kemper Watkins, 
USAF, of Livingston, Tex.; a daughter, Shannon Bolding of Great Bend; 
three step daughters, Diana Ellis and Donna Frederick of Kansas City, 
Kan., and Debra Hollis of Topeka. Other survivors include, two brothers,
 Tommie Long and Larrel Long, both of Redding, Calif.; 10 grandchildren;
 3 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; and 6 step great 
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 1, 2021, at Bryant 
Funeral Home, with Pastor Chris Lehew presiding. Inurnment will be in 
the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Azria Health or

 </figure>Gretchen Muriel Scheck, 82, passed away February 24, 2021, at Great 
Bend Health &amp; Rehab. She was born April 11, 1938, at Kansas City, 
Kan., the daughter of Henry &amp; Mabel (Frisbie) Bradfield. She married
 Hollis Earl Watkins of Waco, Texas on January 29, 1955, at Great Bend. 
They were divorced in 1966. She then married Julius Scheck, July 19, 
1975, at Great Bend.She graduated from Barton County Community College in 1982, with an 
Associate’s Degree in Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse at
 CKMC in ICU, she then went into management as the manager of Patient 
Planning Services and manager of Central Kansas Health Services.Mrs. Scheck was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Great
 Bend. She served as Republican Precinct Committee 1995 to 1999, and a 
member of the Great Bend City Council from 1997 to 1999.Survivors include, her husband, Julius Scheck of the home; three 
sons, Kerry Watkins and wife Jan of Ellinwood, Kevin Watkins and wife 
Pam of Independence, Kan., and Chief Master Sergeant Kemper Watkins, 
USAF, of Livingston, Tex.; a daughter, Shannon Bolding of Great Bend; 
three step daughters, Diana Ellis and Donna Frederick of Kansas City, 
Kan., and Debra Hollis of Topeka. Other survivors include, two brothers,
 Tommie Long and Larrel Long, both of Redding, Calif.; 10 grandchildren;
 3 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; and 6 step great 
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 1, 2021, at Bryant 
Funeral Home, with Pastor Chris Lehew presiding. Inurnment will be in 
the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Azria Health or 
Barton County Historical Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Clarita (Richmeier) Kollhoff, age 79, of Ransom, Kansas, passed away 
Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Grisell Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, 
Ransom. Clarita was born April 18, 1941, to Joseph and Elizabeth 
(Dinkel) Richmeier in St. Peter, Kansas.

Clarita grew up in St. Peter, attending St. Anthony’s School up to the 8th
 grade. In 1961, she was married to Vernon Kollhoff in Hutchinson, 
Kansas, and enjoyed 24 years of marriage until his untimely passing in 
1985. To this union were born 2 sons. She worked for several years as a 
seamstress in a warehouse, and also as a hostess at McDonalds. Clarita 
was always a very happy person, and a ray of sunshine in the lives of 
those around her. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, putting together
 jigsaw puzzles, and meticulously choosing which words to play in a game
 of Scrabble.

Clarita is survived by her sons Glyne (Rhonda) Kollhoff of Royse 
City, Texas and Wayne (Sharleen) Kollhoff of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; 
granddaughters Camberly (Ryan) Sheffield and Randi (Matthew) North; 
great-grandchildren Maverick and Novymber North, and Sunni Sheffield; 
brothers Edwin Richmeier of WaKeeney, Kansas, and Larry (Jackie) 
Richmeier of Lake Okeechobee, Florida; sisters Blanche Zerr of 
Grainfield, Kansas, Eileen Bellairs of Ogallah, Kansas, and Carmella 
Jones of Lafayette, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Clarita in death are her parents; beloved husband Vernon; and sister Luella Kinderknecht.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.

Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, March 1, 2021, at 10:30 AM 
at Christ the King Catholic Church, WaKeeney, with burial to follow at 
St. Anthony Cemetery, in St. Peter.

Clarita (Richmeier) Kollhoff

Bernard F. Brown, 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.

He was born May 20, 1931, at Ellis, Kansas, the son of Frank P. and 
Catherine (Schoenberger) Brown.&nbsp; He was a graduate of Ellis High School 
and received his Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University. He 
served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.&nbsp; He was the only
 one in his family to graduate college and taught school at Weskan, 
Palco, Great Bend, Dodge City and Deerfield as well as being the 
Director of Facilities at St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City. 
They moved to Dodge City in 1969, moving to Deerfield in 1982, then 
Lakin, and returning to Dodge City in the early 1990s.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 4th
 Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 2955, VFW Post 1714 and 
American Legion Post 47 all in Dodge City.&nbsp; He was also a member of 
Right to Life of Kansas and American Life League.

On December 1, 1952, he married Norma Ruder at Hays.

Survivors include: his wife of 68 years, Norma; 4 daughters, Joyce 
Renick and husband Bruce, Ingalls, Brenda Ackerman and husband David, 
Dodge City, Julie Durler and husband Kevin, Wright and Bonnie Bernbeck 
and husband Duane, Garden City; daughter-in-law, Renette Brown, Sedalia,
 Missouri; 9 grandchildren, Jasmine Strecker and husband Jason, Mark 
Durler and wife Lindsey, Tyler Durler, Nikki Durler and husband Chris 
Alexander, Ryan Ackerman and fiancée Alex Mootz, Randy Ackerman, Andrea 
Smith, Erica Durler and Denton Durler; and 8 great grandchildren with 1 
due in September.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Terry and James 
Brown, 5 brothers, Celestine, Vincent, John, Leonard and William Brown 
and 7 sisters, Mary Brown, Barbara Brungardt, Theresa Wallert, Vera 
Allen, Frances Weaver, Agnes Rohr and Anna VonFeldt.

Vigil service followed by Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:00 
pm Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.&nbsp;

Bernard F. Brown

Berny Lee Bailey, 71, Hays, died Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at HaysMed.

He was born May 21, 1949, in McCook, 
Nebraska, the son of Clarence and Lavina (Flaska) Bailey.&nbsp; In 1967, he 
graduated from St. John High School, and in 1971, he graduated from Fort
 Hays State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education.&nbsp; 


Berny was a physical education and social studies teacher in the Larned 
School District, and after earning a Master’s Degree in Counseling from 
Fort Hays State University, he was a school counselor in the Larned 
Schools and at Great Bend High School.&nbsp; On June 13, 1970, he was united 
in marriage to Donna Kisner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, and 
they celebrated 50 years of marriage.&nbsp; He was a farmer and learned 
carpentry from his father, which led him to become a skilled craftsman.&nbsp;
 He used these skills to remodel his homes and build furniture for his 
family.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and played 
trumpet in the Eddie Frank Band.&nbsp; &nbsp;He loved his family and enjoyed 
golfing, bowling, playing pickle ball, water sports, traveling, and 
riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include his wife Donna of 
Hays, his mother-in-law: Virginia Kisner of Hays, a son: Brett Bailey 
and wife Paulia of Larned, two daughters: Rebecca Bailey and husband 
Chris of Shawnee and Stacey Bernal and husband Kris of Halstead, a 
brother: Vern Bailey and wife Melanie of Bunker Hill, a brother-in-law: 
Kenny Schepmann of Leon, and seven grandchildren: Addison, Isabella, 
Adam, Bailey, Sydney, Brenley, and Berkley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law: Vernon Kisner, and his sister: Carol Schepmann.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church,

Wanda Ann (Kemper) Huntington, 50, passed away on December 31, 2020, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.

She is survived by her parents, Gary and Ellen Kemper of 
Phillipsburg, KS; sister Brenda Maeske (Jim Klavis) of Chantilly, VA; 
sons David of Hays, KS and Shawn of Minneapolis, KS; nieces Jessica 
(Michael) Stone of Reston, VA and Alexandra Spittle (James Sorokos) of 
Norfolk, Virginia; sisters-in-law Sharon (Lloyd) Sandlin and Shelly 
Derting of Minneapolis, KS; uncle Marvin Gaines of Logan, KS and many 
cousins.

Wanda was a free-spirit who loved her family and friends. She read 
her bible every day and had a relationship with the lord. She listened 
to gospel music and attended religious services either in-person or by 
watching on television. She also loved to watch football and was a big 
fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.

For the past four years, Wanda lived in Winfield, KS in ResCare 
Residential Services. She lived with her roommate and had many friends 
in Winfield including her case manager Christina Pack; whom she fired 
almost on a daily basis. You were Wanda's friend until you made her mad 
and then you weren't however she had the innate ability to easily 
forgive.

Just before her death Wanda moved into shared living with Katie 
Jordan and her two children. She enjoyed playing with the kids and was 
excited about her future. Wanda went on vacation with Katie and the kids
 to South Padre Island, TX and saw the ocean for the very first time. 
While on vacation she held a baby alligator; she was fearless that way. 
She really did love adventures and seeing new things.

Her sister remembers Wanda as a caring and loving person who never 
met a stranger. Brenda wants everyone to know that Wanda was not just 
her sister but her best friend. &nbsp;“A Little bit of my sister will always 
live in me. Rest in peace Wanda, you'll always be in my heart".

She was taken from us too soon, but our heavenly father had a greater plan. She will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service for Wanda will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March
 5, 2021 at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor

Clarita Kollhoff

Max E. Hicks, 93, died February 22, 2021, at Clara Barton Hospital, 
Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born January 21, 1928, in Chelsea, Oklahoma,
 the son of James R. and Lily Mae (Adamson) Hicks. Max graudauted from 
Delaware High School, Delaware, Oklahoma.&nbsp; He then served in the Army as
 a Private First Class.

On July 19, 1952, he married Betty L. Cook in Great Bend, Kansas.

A longtime Hoisington resident, Max retired from Petroluem Inc., 
Great Bend, where he worked as a roustabout and a pumper.&nbsp; He was a 
member of the First United Methodist Church, a former commander of the 
American Legion Post #286, and a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge 
#331, all of Hoisington. Max enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, cards, 
and most of all he enjoyed his time with family especially his grand and
 great grandkids.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty L. Hicks of the home; 
two daughters, Rhonda Piland and husband Randy, and Becky Ritter and 
husband Keith, all of Hoisington; a brother, Alva Hicks and wife 
Virginia of Cape Carteret, North Carolina; 2 grandchildren, Jatim Wagner
 and husband Cory of Olmitz, and Justin Piland and wife Tanya of

 </figure>Max E. Hicks, 93, died February 22, 2021, at Clara Barton Hospital, 
Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born January 21, 1928, in Chelsea, Oklahoma,
 the son of James R. and Lily Mae (Adamson) Hicks. Max graudauted from 
Delaware High School, Delaware, Oklahoma.&nbsp; He then served in the Army as
 a Private First Class.On July 19, 1952, he married Betty L. Cook in Great Bend, Kansas.A longtime Hoisington resident, Max retired from Petroluem Inc., 
Great Bend, where he worked as a roustabout and a pumper.&nbsp; He was a 
member of the First United Methodist Church, a former commander of the 
American Legion Post #286, and a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge 
#331, all of Hoisington. Max enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, cards, 
and most of all he enjoyed his time with family especially his grand and
 great grandkids.He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty L. Hicks of the home; 
two daughters, Rhonda Piland and husband Randy, and Becky Ritter and 
husband Keith, all of Hoisington; a brother, Alva Hicks and wife 
Virginia of Cape Carteret, North Carolina; 2 grandchildren, Jatim Wagner
 and husband Cory of Olmitz, and Justin Piland and wife Tanya of 
Hoisington; and three great grandchildren, Braydin Piland, Logan Wagner

Gene Martin, 67, of Wichita, KS, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 in Wichita. Memorial service 11:00 a.m.  Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. 

Gene was born in Hays, KS on September 22, 1953, to the late Mary Louise (Arnold) and Harold Dwight Martin. He graduated from Augusta High School and later worked as an inspector for Learjet. Gene enjoyed motorcycles, reading, and rock music, being a member of several local bands. 

He is survived by son, Jordan Martin; daughters, Leah Martin; and Cody Swaim and husband Chance all of Wichita; brothers, Mike Martin and wife Jyneen of Augusta; and Harold Dean Martin of Oklahoma; and grandchildren, Madison, Jackson, Mason, Lydia, Colbie, John Jr., Trinity, Tanner and Kennedy.&nbsp;

Deloris Ann (Pratt) Zink, 85, Hays, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021, at her home.

She was born May 24, 1935, in Osborne County, Kansas, the daughter of Norman and Lucille (Dixon) Pratt.&nbsp;

In 1966, she and her husband settled&nbsp;in
 Leoti where they raised their children and operated a veterinary 
practice.&nbsp; She lived in Topeka from 1991 until 2016 before moving to 
Hays, where she spent the remainder of her life.&nbsp; Deloris was active in 
the community and a member of United Methodist Church in Leoti and 
Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church in Tecumseh.&nbsp; She was a fixture 
at her children’s band, vocal, drill team, sporting, and church events.&nbsp;
 Later in life, she was passionate about Washburn Ichabod basketball and
 found a new role in life working at the Combat Air Museum with “the 
guys."&nbsp; She will be missed by her family and her many friends from all 
the different parts of her life.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son: Greg Zink 
and wife Donna of Carthage, MO, two daughters: Shelley Zink Pitts and 
husband Lynn of Hays and Carol Zink and special friend Kathy Garcia of 
Corrales, NM, her brother: Norman Pratt, Jr. of St. Louis, MO, three 
grandchildren: Renee Butler and husband Will of Virginia Beach, VA, Amy 
Denham and husband BJ of Hays, and Cory Pitts and wife Kaisley of Derby,
 six great grandchildren: Lliam Butler, Levi Denham, Lila Denham, Phinn 
Butler, Linkon Denham, and Elliot Butler, her nephew: Randy Pratt, and 
her best friend: Clyde Hinkle.

She is preceded in death by her brother: Don Pratt and her sister-in-law: Judy Pratt. &nbsp;

Deloris Ann (Pratt) Zink

Wayne Lynn King, 59, passed away February 18, 2021, at his home.&nbsp; He 
was born December 8, 1961, in Hays, to Marvin L. and Barbara R. (Bittel)
 King.

Wayne was a 1980 graduate of Ellis High School.&nbsp; On August 12, 1995, 
he married the love of his life, Sharon Kirchoff, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They 
shared over 25 years together, making memories and sharing adventures.&nbsp; 
He was a manager at Woodwork Manufacturing.&nbsp; Wayne was a member of 
Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson.

He enjoyed woodworking and could build just about anything, with 
crosses being one of his favorite projects.&nbsp; Wayne enjoyed running and 
working out, competing in multiple races, including the Chicago 
Marathon.&nbsp; He was a family man who never missed one of his children’s or
 grandchildren’s activities.&nbsp; Spending time with family was one of his 
favorite pastimes.&nbsp; Wayne was always up for any adventure or crazy idea 
that his family threw at him.&nbsp; He was a people person and never knew a 
stranger; once he met you, you were his friend for life. Wayne gave 
himself unselfishly to his family, work, church, and anyone else he 
could help.&nbsp; He enjoyed life-- coaching, traveling, fishing, eating ice 
cream, and telling a joke.

He is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Sharon King of Hutchinson; children, 
Ashley (Scott) Briand of Ransom, Luke King of Hutchinson, and Kaleb King
 of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Chloe, Addison, and Evan Briand; parents,
 Marvin and Barbara King of Ellis; siblings, Wade (Leitha) King of 
Ellis, Wanda (Donnie) Younger of Ellis, and Wes (Kim) King of Andale; 
father-in-law, Don Kirchoff; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Larry) Claar, Karen 
(Mark) Percival, and Carol (Rick) Rupp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his grandparents, Christian and Anna
 King, and Edgar and Rosemary Bittel; and mother-in-law, MaryAnn 
Kirchoff.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 
2021, at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Road, Hutchinson, 
with Father Michael Kerschen officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at 
Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Friends may view from 1 to 5 p.m. 
Sunday, February 21, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, February 22, at
