Thomas James Dreiling, age 56, of Victoria, Kansas, died Thursday, January 28, 2021, at his home in Victoria.

He was born November 28, 1964, at Hays, Kansas to Julius J. and Darlene Marie (Brungardt) Dreiling.

He worked in construction and did farm work.&nbsp; He was raised in Victoria and was a 1984 graduate of Victoria High School.

Survivors include his son, Nathan J. Dreiling and wife, Kasey, Hays, KS; two grandchildren, Lee and Connor Dreiling; his parents, Julius J. and Darlene Dreiling, Victoria, KS; two brothers, Troy Dreiling and wife, Marcia, Victoria, KS, Terrance Dreiling, Hays, KS; three sisters, Debi Cline and husband, Kirk P. “Cookie” Cline, Hays, KS; Deanna Dreiling, Hays, KS; Dori Smalley and husband, Keaton, Frontenac, KS; and a number of nieces and nephews.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Thomas James Dreiling

Our sweet, beautiful mother, Mary, passed away Thursday, January 28, 
2021, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kansas. 
Mary was born of Volga German descent in Hays, Kansas, the oldest of 
five children, to Joe and Sophie Scheutz Gerstner on October 28, 1925. 
She married her beloved husband, Harold P. Schmidt, in 1949 and together
 they raised a family of five children in Topeka, Kansas. They were 
married 63 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, 
Harold; her mother and father; two brothers, Dennis and Leroy Gerstner; 
and her dear daughter-in-law, Joy Schmidt. Mary is survived by
 her five children, Debbie (Jim Wasko), Paul (Joy Schmidt, deceased), 
Bruce (Brenda), Jason and Rodney; as well as seven grandchildren, 
Nathaniel (Nicole), Simon, Philip, Madalyn (Jayant Chandhary) and 
Joseph, Anna (companion, Jared Petefish) and Sara (Jake Machnov). Other 
survivors include her sister, Lillian Rohr and brother, Jim Gerstner. 
She was well loved and will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, 
friends, neighbors and former colleagues. Mom began her long 
work career devoted to helping children stricken with the polio virus. 
Her stories conveyed to us the love she poured into helping these 
children walk again. She worked relentlessly using the world famous, 
Sister Kenny treatments, involving long massages and warm baths. 
 Mom was smart and creative. She devised her own method of shorthand to 
land a good job at the Walker Army Airbase, 58th Bombing Wing, as a 
clerk, ordering parts for the B-29 through the Pentagon. He sales 
ability was outstanding. She was the often sought after clothing and 
bridal consultant for JC Penney for many years. Mary always 
found time for her husband, five children, seven grandchildren and 
activities involving church, school or volunteering. She stayed active 
in the news and loved politics and read voraciously. Her love for 
veterans lead her to a volunteer librarian position at the VA Hospital. 
She loved the arts, attending many theatrical productions, ballets and 
musicals. Mom was fun, rarely turning down a trip to the casino with 
Joy. She traveled extensively with family and was a skilled seamstress 
and painter. Her smile was big and her blue eyes sparkled. She was 
strong but soft in heart. Most of all Mom loved her family. 
She instilled in each of us strong values, good education and our faith.
 She was an excellent cook and a master of Volga German cooking, always 
stressing the importance of our Saturday night meals together. 
 Mom loved her church, Most Pure Heart of Mary, where she and our father
 were original founding members. Mass of Christian Burial will be 
Tuesday, February 9, at 10 a.m. at the Church. Prior to that, visitation
 will be from 9 to 9:30 followed by praying the rosary at 9:30, all at 
the Church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. 
 We thank our brother, Jason, for taking care of Mom so lovingly so she 
could remain in her home. We thank Paul for his constant show of love, 
visiting Mom daily and bringing Holy Communion to her at Brookside. 
 Our family deeply appreciates the love, friendship and beautiful care 
she embraced at Brookside. We are deeply grateful to Brookside Hospice 
who cared for Mom with such compassion to the end. Mom had deep 
spiritual faith; we rejoice knowing she had no fear but the greatest 
anticipation of God’s beautiful promise. We celebrate this and it gives

Martina Werth, 92, Hays, died Sunday, January 31, 2021 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born April 7, 1928 in Hays the 
daughter of August and Anna (Braun) Spies.&nbsp; On August 19, 1946 she was 
united in marriage to Ralph J. Werth and they celebrated 44 years of 
marriage before he preceded her in death on July 14, 1991.&nbsp; She was a 
homemaker, a cook at Sacred Heart School in Ness City and Kennedy Middle
 School, a daycare provider and nanny for doctors’ children, and ironed 
clothes for doctors and lawyers.&nbsp; Her memberships included St. Nicholas 
of Myra Catholic Church and St. Nicholas of Myra Christian Mothers.&nbsp; 
Martina loved to embroider, was a wonderful seamstress, a meticulous 
house cleaner, and enjoyed playing Bingo, slot machines at casinos, and 
Pinochle with her family.&nbsp; She also enjoyed singing, gardening, being 
outdoors, canning, cooking, and baking.&nbsp; Martina was a difference maker 
who built her life on simplicity, commitment to the Lord, and her 
family.&nbsp;

Survivors include six sons: Vincent 
Werth, Sr. and wife Helen of Munjor, Stephen Werth and wife Joyce of 
Schoenchen, Bernie Werth and wife Lona, Andy Werth, and Loran Werth and 
wife Kay, all of Hays, and Darrell Werth and wife Jodie of Olathe, eight
 daughters: Patty Stull and husband Rich Sieker of Hays, Bridget Stenzel
 and husband Lyle of Ness City, Marina Shauers of Wichita, Regina 
Hutchison and Donnetta Pfeifer and husband Terry, all of Hays, Geralyn 
Werth and husband Ernie of Schoenchen, Jacqueline Schneider and husband 
Mark of Cabot, AR, and Tina Unrein of Olathe, a brother: Bill Spies and 
wife Karen of Arvada, CO, a sister: Elaine Cisneros of Omaha, NE, 40 
grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren,

Regina L. Wallace

Linda
 J. Palmquist, 78, of Concordia, KS died on February 1 at Leonardville 
Nursing Home in Leonardville, KS. Born Linda Jean Basso on December 10, 
1942, in Kansas City, MO, she was the youngest child of Andrew and Olive
 “Maxine” Basso. Linda graduated from Westport High School in Kansas 
City, MO. She later received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a 
concentration in Pre-Art Therapy from Kansas State University (1987) and
 a Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design (1997) from Fort Hays State 
University.

On
 July 10, 1963, Linda married Richard Palmquist. They have two children 
Tim (Maureen) Palmquist of Portland, OR and Tammy (Kevin) Mitchell, of 
Kenilworth, IL. Linda farmed with Richard for 30 years in rural 
Concordia and they celebrated over 55 years of marriage. She was a 4-H 
leader, teaching photography and sewing, and active in The Baptist 
Church.

After
 raising two children, Linda returned to college to earn two degrees and
 began teaching graphic design at Cloud County Community College. In 
1999, she became the Director/Curator of the Cloud Country Historical 
Museum, a role she held until she retired to spend more time with her 
grandchildren.

Linda
 was a talented artist, life-long learner, and she enjoyed experimenting
 with many creative endeavors. She was passionate about sharing art with
 others. Linda gave inspirational ‘chalk-talks’ at area churches where 
she would draw on an easel during her presentation, and use a special 
light to reveal a second hidden art sketch at the end of the program. 
She was known for creating spectacular birthday cakes for friends and 
family, as well as baking and decorating cut out sugar cookies at the 
holidays. Her cookie cutter collection grew to 500 at one point.

She
 was preceded in death by her parents. Linda is survived by her husband,
 Richard, her brother Ray (Yoko) Basso of Raytown, MO, her two children 
and their spouses, four grandchildren Brett (Chau) Palmquist of 
Westminster, CA, Chad Palmquist of Des Moines, IA, Megan Palmquist of 
Tigard, OR, and Lauren (Thanh) Orr, of Gardner, KS; as well as eight 
great-grandchildren Rocco, Brett, Isabella, Rhys, Kade, Harrison, 
Charlie, and Abigail.

The
 family has chosen cremation. A private inurnment is planned. A 
Celebration of Remembrance will be held at a later date when it is safe

was born September 14, 1963, in Norton, Kansas, the son of Henry and Ann 
(Prinsen) Tien. On July 19, 1990, he was united in marriage to Patricia 
(Shellito) Tien on the family farm in Prairie View. To this union, they 
were blessed with two boys, Trevor and Brady. Scott was a 
graduate of Logan High School class of 1982. Attended Colby Community 
College and returned back home to help his dad with the family farm. 
Worked at WSI for many years.&nbsp; He was a member of the Luctor Christian 
Reformed Church of Prairie View and the Borderline Gun Club of 
Phillipsburg. Scott enjoyed traveling with Patty to cheer on
 the kids at multiple track meets, ball games, rodeos, jackpots, little 
league baseball, just to name a few. He enjoyed going to Glock sponsored
 competition gun shoots over the past 10 years and took them very 
seriously.&nbsp; He also loved spending time with his grandson Rhett as much 
as possible. He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Tien; parents, Henry and Ann Tien; father-in-law, Ronald (Virginia) Shellito.

Geraldine “Gerri” Elizabeth (Anderson) Walls, 78, died Sunday, January 31, 2021, at the Rice County District Hospital in Lyons.

She was born September 27, 1942, in Spearville, the daughter of Hans 
and Josephine Ida (Stramel) Anderson.&nbsp; She was the youngest child of 5. 
She was a 1960 graduate of Jetmore High School and attended computer 
college in Hays. She worked for Dr. Baker for many years, was a 
beautician, a nurses aide and medication aide.

She attended the United Presbyterian Church in Jetmore and was a 
sewing leader for 4-H.&nbsp; She was the past president of the Business of 
America Club in Hays, past secretary of the Happy Hour Club and belonged
 to the Cousin Club as well as a past Board Member of the Senior Center.

She married Dan Stejskal in 1960.&nbsp; To this union, 3 children were 
born.&nbsp; Their marriage ended in divorce.&nbsp; On September 5, 1998 she 
married DeWayne R. Walls at Ness City.&nbsp; He survives.

Other survivors include: 3 daughters, Therese Thompson, Lyons, Tracy 
Myers, Lyons and Tammy Pugh and special friend, Sandi Niemczyk, Newton; 
step-son, Robert Leon Walls, Portales, New Mexico; her sister, Marjorie 
Stallings, Jetmore; 7 grandchildren, 1 step-grandson, 6 great 
grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Everett Anderson and 2 sisters, Velma Olson and Bernita Sandoval.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the
 United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore, with Pastor Mark Durham 
officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.&nbsp;

Zane Paul Meis was born in Plainville, KS on September 23, 1957, to Gilbert and Theresa Meis.&nbsp; As the third of nine children, Zane enjoyed family camping and fishing trips taken from their home in Oakley, KS.&nbsp; Zane learned to hunt small game from a young age.&nbsp; It was in high school, working for a local lumber yard, that his love of crafting furniture and woodworking was born.&nbsp; His growing interest in history, government, and the military motivated him to enlist in the United States Navy his senior year of high school.

It was after graduation and enlistment that Zane met his beloved wife, Anna.&nbsp; The two were married on October 9, 1976, then moved to north Chicago where he trained to become Gunner Mate at Great Lakes Naval Training Center.&nbsp; Stationed at Norfolk, VA, Zane was assigned to the USS Boulder, participating in the rescue of Cuban refugees trying to escape to the United States via boats, rafts, and innertubes.&nbsp; Zane would later be reassigned to the USS Iwo Jima that operated off the coasts of Italy, Spain, and France. &nbsp; After four years of service, Zane was honorably discharged in July 1980 at the rank of Gunner's Mate Second Class.

Upon separation, Zane went to work as a Section Hand for the Union Pacific Railroad, repairing tracks from Oakley on west.&nbsp; It was his work with the railroad that brought him and Anna to Cheyenne Wells, CO in August 1981.&nbsp; After a foot-crushing injury in the oil patch, Zane pursued higher education at Lamar Community College and HVAC technical training in Colorado Springs.&nbsp; Shortly after completion, Zane began work for the City of Cheyenne Wells and later at St. Joseph Hospital of the Plains, now Keefe Memorial Hospital.&nbsp; Beginning as a Maintenance Aid, Zane quickly became an integral part of hospital operations, assuming the role of Plant Manager and interim CEO for a time.&nbsp;

Zane and Anna had two sons, Mitchell James, and Jesse Wade.&nbsp; With his own wife and sons, he continued the tradition of hunting, fishing, and camping.&nbsp; The family often spent summer vacations traveling to the mountains, camping in areas from Colorado Springs to Yellowstone National Park.&nbsp;

In addition to his full-time work at the hospital, Zane cemented his legacy in the community by volunteering as a county EMT for twenty years and serving as treasurer and commander of the local VFW Post 9700.&nbsp; He furthered his involvement with local veterans by becoming the Cheyenne County Veteran's Service Office, working to help them with their benefit needs. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Zane was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, enjoying time at the lake with his son, Jesse, and family and visiting his son, Mitchell, and family in Germany and at various U.S. Air Force bases.&nbsp; His favorite fishing hole was any one that had fish in it.&nbsp; When he wasn't working, volunteering, or fishing, Zane spent his time woodworking, making hundreds of plaques and other projects to give as gifts and to sell at local craft shows.

Sheila Dawn Towery, 49, passed away January 31, 2021, at her home in 
Great Bend. She was born August 30, 1971, in Joplin, Mo., and was later 
adopted in 1978 by Richard Michael, Sr. and Carol (McDaniel) VanBuskirk.
 She had previously been married to Brian Bubb and Scott Towery.

A long time Barton county resident, Sheila was a volunteer at Central
 Kansas CASA. She loved the outdoors, loved to hunt and spend time with 
her family.

Survivors include her fiancé, Timmy Trantham; a son, Cameron Bubb of 
Great Bend; two daughters, Samantha Towery of Tulsa, Okla., and Courtney
 Thorne and husband Dakota of Larned; a future step daughter, Skylar 
Trantham; her mother, Carol Chinn of Pratt; two brothers, Mikie 
VanBuskirk and Lori Snow of Alva, Okla., and David VanBuskirk and wife 
Sheila of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Debra Brunet and husband Steve of
 Louisville, Ky., and Kandie VanBuskirk of Dallas, Tex.; and a step 
grandson, Kaden Thorne. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard
 Michael VanBusKirk, Sr.; and stepfather, Timothy Chinn.

Ronald Christopher “Chris” Dinges, age 66, of Golden, Colorado — 
husband, father, grandfather, entrepreneur, and outdoorsman — passed 
away on Monday, January 25, 2021, following an extended illness. His 
family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff of 
Saint Joseph Hospital and Collier Hospice Center. 
Chris was born on December 30, 1954, in Hays, Kansas to Leroy “Butch” and
 Elizabeth “Betty” (Schnatterly) Dinges. He graduated from Hays High 
School with the Class of 1972. 
After spilling beer in her hair at the Club Three in Hays, he charmed 
and married Sara Jo Marshall on June 26, 1976, in the Congregational 
Church in Stockton, Kansas. They welcomed their only child, a daughter, 
Jennifer Lynn, on December 20, 1978, in Hays. 
Their love of Colorado was solidified during many motorcycle and camping
 trips, and the family moved to Morrison, Colorado in 1980. Chris later 
found his dream home in the foothills of Golden, with land for horses 
and a grandiose view of the Continental Divide. He spent the next 
decades camping, fishing, hunting, horseback and motorcycle riding, 
canoeing, and pontoon boating in every corner of the state, and 
especially enjoyed the Flat Tops Wilderness Area. 
His childhood love of tinkering and engines lead him to a career in the 
motorcycle industry, first in Hays, and then in the Denver Metro area. 
He was a brilliant mechanic, “so smart in a motor.” As the Lakewood 
Honda Service Manager, he brought the dealership many excellence awards,
 while being teased for having the cleanest mechanic’s hands in the 
land. He was also the skilled rider heading into the sunset in some 
Honda commercials. 
He started his own shop, Foothills Cycles, in 1990, first featuring used
 bikes and custom show Harleys, and then gaining the BMW franchise in 
1995. With the support of family, friends and staff, he built it to be 
the top BMW dealership in the U.S. for several years, for which he was 
rewarded with many accolades and fun vacations. His crowning glory were 
some European trips, riding motorcycles on the Autobahn through Germany 
and Austria with Sara on the back. Those were years of long work hours 
as a family, but many Gordos burritos, Black Angus steaks, and Lyle 
Lovett concerts shared after they closed up shop for the night. 
His additional talents as a horse farrier and rider, heavy machine 
operator, gun history aficionado and hunter, big fish storyteller, 
Saturday Night Fever singer, and Sunday morning omelette maker will be 
remembered and admired. 
He was preceded in death by his brother, Cliff; his best friend, Sam 
Mongeau; his wife, Sara, in 2006, after 30 years of marriage; his 
mother-in-law, Ruth Marshall; and his father, Leroy. 
Surviving family includes his daughter, Jennifer Minch (Andy) and 
granddaughter, Locke Sara, of Bend, Oregon; his mother, Betty Dinges, of
 Hays; nine siblings, Terri Rupp (Bruce), Hays, Rick (Dorene) Fruita, 
CO, Sharon Wasinger (Roxie Whitmer), Pueblo West, CO, Mary Jane Arnhold 
(Tim), Loveland, CO, Michelle Dietrich (Fred), Wamego, KS, Lucy Barnes 
(Howard), Julie Rider (Kurt), and Betsy Forinash (Brian), all of Hays; 
his brother-in-law, Paul Marshall (Deb), Great Bend, KS; 24 nieces and 
nephews; his beloved dog, Beemer, and horses, Drifter and Callahan.

 bikes and custom show Harleys, and then gaining the BMW franchise in 
1995. With the support of family, friends and staff, he built it to be 
the top BMW dealership in the U.S. for several years, for which he was 
rewarded with many accolades and fun vacations. His crowning glory were 
some European trips, riding motorcycles on the Autobahn through Germany 
and Austria with Sara on the back. Those were years of long work hours 
as a family, but many Gordos burritos, Black Angus steaks, and Lyle 
Lovett concerts shared after they closed up shop for the night. 
His additional talents as a horse farrier and rider, heavy machine 
operator, gun history aficionado and hunter, big fish storyteller, 
Saturday Night Fever singer, and Sunday morning omelette maker will be 
remembered and admired. 
He was preceded in death by his brother, Cliff; his best friend, Sam 
Mongeau; his wife, Sara, in 2006, after 30 years of marriage; his 
mother-in-law, Ruth Marshall; and his father, Leroy. 
Surviving family includes his daughter, Jennifer Minch (Andy) and 
granddaughter, Locke Sara, of Bend, Oregon; his mother, Betty Dinges, of
 Hays; nine siblings, Terri Rupp (Bruce), Hays, Rick (Dorene) Fruita, 
CO, Sharon Wasinger (Roxie Whitmer), Pueblo West, CO, Mary Jane Arnhold 
(Tim), Loveland, CO, Michelle Dietrich (Fred), Wamego, KS, Lucy Barnes 
(Howard), Julie Rider (Kurt), and Betsy Forinash (Brian), all of Hays; 
his brother-in-law, Paul Marshall (Deb), Great Bend, KS; 24 nieces and 
nephews; his beloved dog, Beemer, and horses, Drifter and Callahan.

Delbert “Del” Di Siemers passed away on 23 January 2021 in 
Huntsville, AL, from various health complications. He was 75. There will
 be a private memorial service for immediate family members at a later 
date.

Delbert was the youngest child of Henry Adolph Siemers and Ella 
Loutresy (Cullum) Siemers. He was born in Luray, KS, where he attended 
primary school. He attended college at the University of Kansas and Fort
 Hays State University, graduating with his bachelor’s degree.

He was medically retired from the Army after 13 years of service. He 
spent a majority of his Army career in the Army Security Agency with 
duty assignments overseas in Germany and at multiple duty locations 
throughout Asia.

After retiring, Delbert lived in Chapman, KS, where he worked at Fort
 Riley, KS, as a Front-End Commissary Manager and as an Education 
Technician. He then relocated to live with family in Lawton, OK; Moncks 
Corner, SC; and Madison, AL, where he resided at the time of his death.

Delbert loved to sing country classics and hymns. He always had an 
inappropriate joke or story to tell about his time in the military and 
growing up. He didn’t know a stranger, and always had open arms for a 
hug. He was supportive of his children and grandchildren.

Delbert is survived by his daughter, Ella (Richard) Sweazy, of 
Madison, AL, and his son, Sky (Karen) Siemers, of Reston, VA. He is also
 survived by his granddaughter, Dana Sweazy; grandson, Alexander Sweazy;
 and great-grandson, Ivan Martin-Young. He is preceded in death by his 
parents, 6 brothers (Donald, Dewey, Theodore, Richard, Arden, and 
Wayne), 3 sisters (Pauline, Dallas, and Virginia), and his 
granddaughter, Emily Sweazy.

Steven Bradley Reed, 54, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at his home.

Steven was born on October 12, 1966, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Thomas Milton and Keitha Ann (Morgan) Reed.&nbsp; He grew up in central Kansas, where he went on to work primarily in the oil and manufacturing industries. He moved to Russell in 1983, where he would remain for the next two decades. During this time, he was married and raised two children, Clinton and Katie. He later resided in Hoisington, Lindsborg, and Great Bend, eventually returning to Russell. He was in his element when he was in the garage working on a vehicle or camping and fishing at a nearby lake or river.&nbsp;

Surviving family include his children, Clinton Schuckman and Katie Reed, and their mother Cindy (Schuckman) Reed all of Russell, Kansas; brothers Scott Reed of Lewis, Kansas, Stan Reed and wife Kelly of Great Bend, Kansas, Henry Reed of Salina, Kansas, Earl Reed and wife Melinda of Lake City, Tennessee, sister Stacy Lawrence and husband Randy of Great Bend, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Dole-Specter Conference Center at Fossil Creek Hotel and Suites in Russell, Kansas on Saturday, February 6th, from 2-5 PM. Friends and family are welcome to come and go as they please.&nbsp;

Paul Glendy, age 63, passed away peacefully January 30, 2021, at his home in WaKeeney, Kansas.&nbsp;

Paul was born May 11, 1957, at Broken Bow, Nebraska, to Clayton &amp; Joan (Curren) Glendy. Paul graduated from Broken Bow High School and it was there that he met his first wife Patty Mogenson.&nbsp; From this union came four children, Peter, whom they lost shortly after birth, Adam, David and Leah.&nbsp; The two later separated and Paul met Tina Wolf and the two were married December 2, 1994.&nbsp; Paul and Tina enjoyed 25 years of marriage before she passed away this last May.&nbsp; After living in Broken Bow for a few years the two settled in WaKeeney, Kansas.&nbsp;

In both Broken Bow and WaKeeney, Paul worked mostly as a general contractor where he laid flooring or traveled doing cemetery lettering throughout parts of Nebraska and Kansas.&nbsp; Paul and his wife, Tina, also enjoyed three years as directors at Cedar Bluff Christian Service Camp.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul enjoyed a variety of activities including playing cards with friends and family, dancing, camping, gardening, serving elderly members of the community alongside his wife Tina, talking politics and God, preaching the occasional sermon on Sundays, and most of all spending time with his kids and his grandkids.&nbsp;

Paul is survived by his children, Adam (Wendi) Glendy of Broken Bow, Nebraska, David (Tara) Glendy of Broken Bow, Nebraska, and Leah (Jeremy) Jech of Wayne, Nebraska; Stepchildren, Derik Newell of Bentonville, Arkansas, Amber (Curt) Wagner of Ellis, Kansas and Darin Newell; 16 grandchildren; his mother Joan Glendy of Broken Bow; siblings Kim (Keith) Williams of Riverton, WY, Lori Williams of Broken Bow and Kristi (Tony) Sanchez of Broken Bow; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Tina; his father Clayton; infant son Peter; and his brother Rick.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Ogallah Christian Church in Ogallah, Kansas on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at 11:00 am, with a lunch to follow at the church.

Vernon Denning, age 70, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 12, 1950, in Hays, KS, the son of Gabriel and Beata (Pfannenstiel) Denning. Vernie attended Hoxie Grade School until the age of 11 when the family moved to WaKeeney, where he attended school until his sophomore year. He then attended Olathe School for the Blind in Olathe, KS.

Upon graduation Vernie lived in Wichita, KS for a short period of time where he worked with the blind making brooms. Following a stroke, he returned home to WaKeeney. Vernie loved music and played the accordion. He liked watching baseball, car races, and gameshows on TV.

Vernon is survived by three brothers, Gerald (Beryl) Denning, of Lewisville, TX, Cecil Denning of Salina, KS, and Robert (Linda) Denning of Hays; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters-in-law, Twila Denning and Cleo Denning.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney with a rosary immediately following.

13, 1938, in Guymon, Oklahoma, the son of Roy Roscoe and Margueritte L. 
Fankhouser Kirk.&nbsp; A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1952 moving 
from Guymon, Oklahoma.

Richard was a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott City, 
Kansas, and worked for the United States Postal Service for 33 years and
 USD 466 as a bus driver for 10 years. He was an avid Golfer, Bowler, 
and OU fan.

On March 23, 1959, he married Wanda Smith in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Wanda Kirk of Scott City, Kansas, One 
Son - Roy &amp; Mary Kirk of Leoti, Kansas, One Daughter - Renee &amp;

Following his father’s footsteps, Kent devoted his life to growing 
wheat and raising cattle in Ness County, Kansas. He was a member of 
Faith Fellowship Church in Burdett, Kansas

He is survived by his three brothers, Kim McJunkin of Vancouver, 
Washington, Scott McJunkin of Burdett, and Kirk McJunkin and his wife, 
Susan, of Gold Hill, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at 
Faith Fellowship Church, Hanston.&nbsp; Burial in the Crandall Union 
Cemetery, Bazine, Kansas.&nbsp; Visitation will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral
 Home, Ness City on Monday, February 1, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 
p.m.

Kent Gene McJunkin

David Charles Meile, age 50, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Wednesday, January
 27, 2021, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was 
born October 29, 1970, in Ulysses, Kansas, the son of Marvin and Pamela 
(Metcalf) Meile. 
David grew up in Ulysses and graduated from Ulysses High School in 1989.
 He continued his education at Fort Hays State University where he 
earned a degree in Industrial Technology, and was a member of SigEp 
Fraternity. After college, he came back to Ulysses and became the 
General Manager at Marvin’s Farm Equipment and Repair. David married 
Shan Britton on June 13, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a member of
 the First United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of 
Trustees; and was a lifetime member of the NRA. David enjoyed hunting, 
fishing, and going to the gun range. He loved going to the lake, 
boating and jet skiing, watching K-State football and tailgating. And 
most importantly, David loved spending time with his girls, the lights 
of his life! 
David is survived by his wife, Shan of the home; daughters, Reile Meile 
and Britton Meile both of the home; parents, Marvin and Pamela Meile of 
Ulysses; brothers, Nathan Meile and wife Megan of Wamego, Kansas, and 
Chris Meile of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Susan Britton; 
brother-in-law, Josh Britton and wife Sarah of Ulysses; sisters-in-law, 
Cara Britton of Ulysses, and Jenna Britton of Wichita; aunts, uncles, 
nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends. 
David is preceded in death by his grandparents; C.J. Metcalf, Eunice 
Metcalf Smith, George Wiliam (Bill) Smith, David F. Meile, and Carrie 
Meile; and father-in-law, Roger Britton. 
Funeral service will be Saturday, January 30, 2021, at 2:00 PM at the

Sally Rae Irvin, 62, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021, at her home in McCracken, Kansas.

Sally was born December 28, 1958, in La Crosse, Kansas, the daughter of Harley and Marjorie (Norlin) Irvin. She was a lifelong resident of Rush and Ness County, Kansas. She was a 1976 graduate of McCracken High School and received her master’s degree in mathematics from Fort Hays State University. She was an online math teacher for multiple universities and colleges. She had a passion for math and was always looking for new ways to help students understand.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and Daughters of American Revolution, all of McCracken. She was an active youth in 4-H. Sally was a lover of cats and always had pet cats who were well cared for.

Survivors include: one brother, John (Sharon) Irvin, McCracken; one sister, Vicky Overley, Antonino, Kansas; and one brother-in-law, Dennis Walker, Amarillo, Texas. She is also survived by nephews and nieces.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Susan Walker; and sister and brother-in-law, Penny and Tom Betz.

The family will have a memorial service in the future.&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the McCracken Historical Museum or the McCracken Fire Department.&nbsp;

Roland “Ron” R. Murphy, age 82, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 
2021, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born 
on July 12, 1938, in Ford, Kansas, the son of Arthur &amp; Ella Clark 
Murphy.&nbsp; Ron moved to Shallow Water, Kansas in 1967 and then was a 
resident of Scott City, Kansas from 1968 until moving to Wallace, 
Kansas, in 2016, he was a mechanic, truck driver, and service station 
operator.

He was a member of the Kansas Antique Racers, Mississippi Valley 
Vintage Race Car Association, and the Colorado Vintage Oval Racers.&nbsp; 
Ron’s other activities included Vintage Cars, Race Cars, Horses, 
operating fireworks stands with his wife, Avis, and family for 36 years,
 and also worked for Becker Corporation and his mechanic shop, Ron’s 
Service.

On April 4, 1959, he married Avis Robbins in Dodge City, Kansas.&nbsp; She passed away on December 5, 2010, in Garden City, Kansas.

Survivors include his One Daughter - Ronda &amp; Mel Brown of 
Haviland, Kansas, One Son - K.B. &amp; Camille Murphy of Wallace, 
Kansas, One Brother - Francis Murphy of Callahan, California, Eight

Geneva “Arleen” (Campbell) Rarick, 80, long time resident of Hoxie, 
Kansas passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 surrounded by family. 
Arleen was born on July 7, 1940 in Oakley, Kansas to William and 
Dorothy” Pauline”(McDonald) Campbell the oldest of three girls. She 
went to school in Oakley, Kansas. She married Leroy Harold Rarick on 
September 8, 1956 in Hoxie, Kansas where they lived for most of their 
married life. They were blessed with two daughters Patricia and Karen 
and two sons, Terry Lee and Bill. 
 Arleen worked for Hoxie Lanes as a cook for many years. She also 
worked for twenty-five years at the Sheridan County Hospital in the 
kitchen and laundry. In her free time, she enjoyed painting and doing 
pencil drawing. Arleen never took an art class, but was a natural 
artist and had many beautiful creations. She also enjoyed reading 
anything she could get her hands on. Sheridan County History was one of
 her favorite things to read about. Movies, especially, thrillers were 
another form of entertainment she enjoyed. She passed the love of these
 movies to her grandchildren. The most important thing in her life 
was the love of her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 Arleen is survived by her children, Patricia Shaw (Mike) of Hoxie, 
Kansas, Karen Walden (Matt) of Morrison, Tennessee; and Bill Rarick 
(Fran) of Fremont, Ohio; sisters, Barbara Jo Wolf of Carollton, Michigan
 and Glenda Aswegan of Clyde, Ohio; eight grandchildren and eight 
great-grandchildren.
 She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Rarick; parents, 
William and Pauline Campbell; one son, Terry Lee Rarick; and grandsons, 
Austin and Andrew Rarick; great-grandsons, Ralph Walden and George 
Goetz; and great-granddaughter, Anna Marie Goetz.
