Longtime Sharon Springs, KS resident Elsie Elizabeth (Maki) Cox, 90, passed away on November 27, 2020 at the Rose Medical Center in Denver.
Elsie was born on September 6, 1930 in Crystal Falls, Michigan to John E. and Martha (Lappi) Maki. She was the eldest of six children. She grew up in Crystal Falls and graduated from Crystal Falls High School in 1948.
On September 1, 1949, she married Leonard Cox in Waukegan, Illinois. To this union, three children were born; Jeanne, Kevin and Darrell.
In 1992, Elsie and Leonard retired in Weskan KS prior to settling in Sharon Springs in 1999. She worked many years as a secretary in the Medical Profession. She was a member of the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church, and enjoyed many hobbies: including knitting, crocheting, baking bread, swimming, and reading. She loved sports, especially the Kansas City Royals and the KU Jayhawks. She also enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Leonard and her brother, Erland Maki.
She is survived by her three children; Jeanne Moffat of Cheyenne Wells, CO, Kevin (Jeanne) Cox of Colby, KS and Darrell (Johannah) Cox of Lawrence, KS. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 4 sisters; Esther (Rudy) Berger of Sierra Vista, AZ, Donna Maki of Racine WI, Patricia (Annie) Jansky of Peoria, IL and Linda Banicki of Austin, TX.
Elsie’s wish was to be cremated and have a memorial service in the spring.
