David Robert 'Dave' Halbleib

David Robert “Dave” Halbleib, 69, Hays, died Sunday, May 30, 2021, at HaysMed.

He was born December 2, 1951, in Hays, the son of Robert and Eleanor (Leiker) Halbleib.  In 1969, he graduated from McCracken High School and in 1971, he earned an Associate Degree in electronics from Northwest Kansas Technical College.  He was united in marriage on September 2, 1972, to Judy Linden in McCook, Nebraska and they celebrated 48 years of marriage.  Dave was a television repairman, owned and operated Dave’s TV and Appliance, and was a farmer and cattleman in the Brownell area.  After retiring from farming, Dave and Judy moved to Hays, and for 18 years he worked in the deli at Walmart.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council in Ransom.  Dave collected coins, liked cars, was a handyman, and enjoyed woodworking and making walking sticks out of old tree limbs.  He loved his family and spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife: Judy of Hays, two daughters: Becky Scheuerman and husband Chris and Kim Chesney and husband Andy, all of Wichita, a son-in-law: Ryan Kufahl and wife Lindsay of Topeka, and seven grandchildren: Emily Scheuerman, Liz Scheuerman, Logan Kufahl, Kinsley Kufahl, Kent Chesney, Kalin Chesney, and Kolton Chesney.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter: Jenny Kufahl.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Brian Lager officiating.  Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Thursday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
