Marjorie M. Johnston

Marjorie M. Johnston, 96, of Osborne, KS, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Parkview Care Center of Osborne.  She was born on September 23, 1924, at Alton, KS, to Leo & Velma Mae (Stull) Bales.  

Marjorie  attended Hillsview School in Kill Creek Township in grades 1-8.  She graduated from Alton High School in 1942 & earned a teaching certificate from Ft. Hays College.  Marjorie married her high school sweetheart, Bill Johnston, on August 15, 1943.  Bill passed away in 2008 after 65 years of marriage.

Marjorie taught at the Hillsview School for 3 years during WWII.  They lived & farmed south of Alton where they raised 4 children.  She worked at the Osborne county Farmer newspaper office for 47 years.

Marjorie was always there when anyone needed help, family or friend.   She was a woman of God.  The Mt. Ayr Church was where she attended, faithfully, all her life.  Singing the Doxology was the chosen meal prayer at family gatherings.  Puzzles were a huge pass time for Marjorie.  She also enjoyed having games for the children to play.  Cooking and helping on the farm were also strong facets of her life.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; infant daughter: Cathy; granddaughter-in-law, Linda Thornburg; sister-in-law, Marjorie Bales.

Marjorie is survived by her children; Elaine (Tom) Dunn of Anna IL; Jerry (Janis) Johnston of Alton, KS; Rex  Johnston (special friend, Peggy Anshutz) of Alton; Cindy (Richard) Little of Carbondale; brother: Earl of Osborne; sister-in-law: Sally Herndon of Beloit, KS; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; many friends & relatives.
