Robert Lee Daniels, 79, passed away May 26, 2021, at Woodhaven Care 
Center, Ellinwood. He was born July 21, 1941, at Plainville, to Elmer 
&amp; Atha (Thomas) Daniels. He married Lisa Johnson June 19, 1993.

Robert was a brick layer for Tim Clothier. He loved fishing, hunting,
 spending time with his family, listening to his oldies music and 
drinking bud light.

Survivors include, his wife, Lisa Daniels of the home; a daughter, 
Kena Daniels; two sons, Lavert Johnson and Stephan Johnson; 
stepchildren, Deandrea, Joy, Jamie and Victoria; a brother, Floyd 
Daniels; he was beloved by several grandchildren, great grandchildren 
and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his first wife,
 Tiny and their children, Troy, Tracy and Teresa. He was preceded in 
death by his parents; his brothers, Theodore, Tommie, and Kenneth; and 
his sisters, Katherine, Della Anne, Josephine, and Anna Mae.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A 
celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Memorials have
 been designated to the Robert Daniels Funeral Expense Fund, in care of 
Bryant Funeral Home.

Ila Mae Edwards, 89, longtime Bison, Kansas, resident passed away Monday, May 24, 2021, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Ila Mae was born December 11, 1931, in Bison, Kansas, the daughter of Morton and Ella (Gisick) Lewis.&nbsp; She attended all 12 years of school in Bison, Kansas, and graduated from Bison High School, Bison, Kansas, in 1949.&nbsp;

She was united in marriage to Zane K. Edwards December 9, 1951, at the United Methodist Church, Bison, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death April 8, 2018.

The couple made their home on a farm north of Bison, Kansas, where Ila Mae was a homemaker and farm wife.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Bison, Kansas. &nbsp;

Ila Mae enjoyed hand quilting quilts, reading, and cooking for her family.

Survivors include:&nbsp; two sons, David Edwards (Nancy), Norman, Oklahoma, and Brian Edwards (Karen), Bison, Kansas; one daughter, Gay Graham (Ron), Colorado Springs, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Roy Lewis; and one sister, Betty Schleuning.

Funeral service will be Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Ron Graham&nbsp; officiating.&nbsp; Private family Interment will be in La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor David Edwards officiating.

Ila Mae Edwards

Larry Dinkel, 64, of Oakley, KS, left this earth on May 23, 2021. He was
 born October 30, 1956, in WaKeeney, KS, to Ralph and Rubina Dinkel, the
 3rd of four brothers. 
Larry grew up in Oakley, KS, attending St. Joseph’s Catholic Grade School and Oakley High School. 
In high school Larry enjoyed playing football and wrestling. He was a 
state medal winner of the 1974 state wrestling championship team. Later 
in life, Larry spent time following and supporting local athletics. He 
was a fan of numerous sports. Larry developed a passion for following 
the Kansas City Chiefs. He became a devoted season ticket holder, which 
embarked on a lifelong love of road trips to Arrowhead stadium. 
Larry went to work for Jim Mitten Trucking in 1978, as a driver. In 
1980, Larry and his father Ralph, purchased the company from Jim and 
Estelene Mitten. Then, in 1989, Larry and Dina bought out Ralph’s shares
 and continue to run the company today. 
On November 25, 1988, Larry married Dina Rae Wright. With this union, he became a dad to Darrin, Challis and Tye. 
Larry was involved in many organizations, including serving as President
 of the Kansas Motor Carriers Association and President of Oakley 
Country Club. 
Larry was preceded in death by his father Ralph and his mother Rubina. 
Larry will be deeply missed by his wife of 33 years, Dina; two sons, 
Darrin Wright, and friend Danelle Okeson, of Salina and Tye Wright, and 
wife Anne, of Douglass; daughter Challis Zerr, and husband Alan, of 
Oakley; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Baalmann Mortuary, 
Oakley. Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 28, at the Buffalo 
Bill Cultural Center, Oakley, with burial in the Oakley City Cemetery.

Rose Etta Kane (Persinger)

Doralyn Ann (Gasper) Dubbert, 95, Cawker City, KS, died December 4, 
2020, while under the care of the staff at the Hays Med-The University 
of Kansas Health Center, Hays, KS. &nbsp;Doralyn was born November 25, 1925, 
in Tipton, KS, the 12th child of Frank &amp; Mary Gasper.

Doralyn received her education at the Holy Corner Catholic School, 
Tipton, KS. &nbsp;Upon entry, it was necessary for her to learn English since
 only German was spoken at home. &nbsp;She was a very bright &amp; articulate
 individual, with an amazing memory unto her death. &nbsp;As a yong woman, 
she worked for several family members after her graduation, honing her 
cookig &amp; homemaking skills. &nbsp;Doralyn met her lifelong mate, Gerald 
C. Dubbert, in Tipton, KS. &nbsp;After 2 years of dating, they married on 
June 17, 1947. &nbsp;Together she &amp; Gerald undertook a farming, cattle, 
&amp; hog operation along Oak Creek in Mitchell County, KS, &amp; years 
later, in 1967, they moved to her current residence in rural Downs, KS, 
because of their displacement due to the construction of Waconda Lake 
Reservoir. &nbsp;Gerald &amp; Doralyn celebrated 52 years of marriage 
together prior to Gerald's passing in May 2000.

Doralyn's focus was always her beloved family. &nbsp;She was a devoted 
wife &amp; mother. &nbsp;As a homemaker/farm wife, she was an excellent cook 
&amp; seamstress. &nbsp;While she enjoyed baking and gardening, her loves 
were dancing, sewing, flower gardening, &amp; embroidery work. &nbsp;She 
never had an idol hand. &nbsp;Travel became a highlight later in life with 
Gerald as they journeyed to various Navy&nbsp;reunions across the country. 
&nbsp;Bringing her family together for gatherings was always her greatest 
priority!

Doralyn was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Downs, KS. 
&nbsp;Her faith &amp; belief in God was the founding premise for how she 
lived life. &nbsp;She was involved in a variety of volunteer work activities,
 including assistance to the St. Mary's Altar Society, the Cancer 
Society, &amp; the VFW Auxiliary in Beloit, KS.&nbsp; She was often called 
upon to bake her famous pies for local funerals &amp; civic meetings.

Doralyn was truly a beautiful woman inside &amp; out. &nbsp;Her kind &amp;
 caring heart was evident to all that she met. &nbsp;Friends often commented 
on her sweet &amp; gentle spirit; &amp; likewise, complimented her on 
her meticulous appearance &amp; sense of style &amp; grace. &nbsp;She was 
truly a great listener while quietly maintaining a fun&nbsp;sense of humor!

The most appreciative of her life of strength &amp; sacrifice were 
her children, grandchildren &amp; great-grandchildren. &nbsp;She is survived 
by: Steve Dubbert, Cawker City, Rodney Dubbert (Renee), Johnstown, CO, 
Debby Loy (Wally), Barnard, Darla J. Fuertges (Don-deceased), Hays, 
Carolyn McDaneld (Kenny), Wellington; 7 grandchildren, &amp; 13 great 
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; her parents; 7 
brothers; &amp; 4 sisters; a great-grandchild, Colten Christopher 
Dubbert, &amp; numerous nieces &amp; nephews.

 Elwyn Wright, age 80, entered into rest on May 17, 2021, at Mount Joseph
 Senior Village, Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born February 10, 1941, in 
Jewell County, Kansas, to Glenn Ray and Ida Agnes (Miles) Wright.

Wright
 was a 1959 graduate of Ionia High School.&nbsp; He&nbsp;married Patricia “Pat” 
Eilers on May 25, 1962, in Hays, Kansas. She preceded him in death on 
October 7, 2016.

Wright
 received his Bachelor’s Degree in English from Fort Hays State 
University in 1963 and his School Administration Masters in 1968.&nbsp; 
He&nbsp;received a Masters from Kansas State University in Behavioral 
Disorders in 1988.

Wright
 started his teaching career in Oberlin, Kansas. He then taught in 
Mankato and moved to Summerfield, Kansas as a high school principal. 
Wright was a high school principal at Washington High School, 
Washington, Kansas. He then went to Clifton-Clyde High School, Clyde, 
Kansas. The Wright’s moved to El Paso, Tx. where he worked in Behavioral
 Education at DeValle High School. Wright retired from education after 
teaching Special Education at Garden City High School in Garden City, 
Kansas. In retirement, he and his wife moved to Montrose, Kansas before 
moving to Concordia.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kelli Wright of Stockton and Sammi Wright of Stuttgart, Germany.

He was preceded in death by his wife Pat, parents, Glenn and Ida and sisters, Merna Keeler (Nelson) and Ardeth McGinnis (Nolan).

Cremation
 has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a
 later time.&nbsp;&nbsp;Arrangements are under the care of Chaput-Buoy Funeral

Edgar E. Wright

Kenneth Ray Blough Jr., 85, died Thursday May 20, 2021, at Parklane 
Nursing home in Scott City, Kansas. He was born June 7, 1935, in Somerset
 County, Pennsylvania, the son of Kenneth Ray Sr. and Neva Dorothy 
(Rose) Blough. On June 12, 1959, Emily Lucille Stutzman, the pretty girl
 he had whistled at outside Ripple’s Ice Cream became his wife, a union 
of 61 years. 
Ray grew up in the mountains of Pennsylvania where he started his career
 as a truck driver. His first job being the driver of a 1955 97 
horsepower White 9000 pulling a 30 foot flatbed loaded down with silica 
firebrick for the steel mills; back when the push trucks with glowing 
red smokestacks were a persons only way up the mountainside. Ray had a 
strong work ethic, while working harvest he drove a cab-less gleaner 
combine with a 16 ft. draper head and his boss at the time kindly gave 
him a net to wear over his head with a fistful of cigars to keep the 
mosquitoes away. When the steel mills went on strike Ray just couldn’t 
stand the thought of sitting around, so he came to Kansas knowing he 
could find work, and a hard worker he was. Ray and Lucy settled in 
Shallow Water and after working for different farmers in the area he ran
 the Collingwood Grain, Inc. He then went to run the fleet of trucks out
 of the old Centry 21 refinery between Scott City and Garden City.These 
were also the days when the old stationary oil Derrick's of the Nun Oil 
Pool filled the sky's.When he needed more trucks to haul crude oil, this
 is when he met Gene Hibbs of GroendykeTransportation and became very 
good friends. In the early 80’s he and Lucy moved to Leoti, where they 
owned and operated Jack’s Restaurant. The two of them made quite the 
pair and became a highly sought after Trucking Duo. In Ray’s time as a 
driver with Groendyke he received an award for over one million miles 
safe driving and more so in his time with National Carriers not only did
 he receive an award for over three million miles safe driving he and 
Lucy were a Priority Team, often times dropping their own load to dead 
head across the US to finish a job for someone else and meet a scheduled
 deadline. 
Ray was a prayer warrior for and with his friends from Full Gospel Men's
 Fellowship, Prairie View Church at Friend, Ks and here in Leoti, 
Transports for Christ international and sometimes in the middle of the 
night. He had hosts of friends. He was true patriot and loved America 
having served in both the Army and National Guard. He was a friend to 
all and lived by the Ten Commandments maybe even adding in one or two of
 his own. He enjoyed music and would just sit and listen as Lucy played 
the organ in the back room. He loved his community and wanted to make

 </figure>Kenneth Ray Blough Jr., 85, died Thursday May 20, 2021, at Parklane 
Nursing home in Scott City, Kansas. He was born June 7, 1935, in Somerset
 County, Pennsylvania, the son of Kenneth Ray Sr. and Neva Dorothy 
(Rose) Blough. On June 12, 1959, Emily Lucille Stutzman, the pretty girl
 he had whistled at outside Ripple’s Ice Cream became his wife, a union 
of 61 years. 
Ray grew up in the mountains of Pennsylvania where he started his career
 as a truck driver. His first job being the driver of a 1955 97 
horsepower White 9000 pulling a 30 foot flatbed loaded down with silica 
firebrick for the steel mills; back when the push trucks with glowing 
red smokestacks were a persons only way up the mountainside. Ray had a 
strong work ethic, while working harvest he drove a cab-less gleaner 
combine with a 16 ft. draper head and his boss at the time kindly gave 
him a net to wear over his head with a fistful of cigars to keep the 
mosquitoes away. When the steel mills went on strike Ray just couldn’t 
stand the thought of sitting around, so he came to Kansas knowing he 
could find work, and a hard worker he was. Ray and Lucy settled in 
Shallow Water and after working for different farmers in the area he ran
 the Collingwood Grain, Inc. He then went to run the fleet of trucks out
 of the old Centry 21 refinery between Scott City and Garden City.These 
were also the days when the old stationary oil Derrick's of the Nun Oil 
Pool filled the sky's.When he needed more trucks to haul crude oil, this
 is when he met Gene Hibbs of GroendykeTransportation and became very 
good friends. In the early 80’s he and Lucy moved to Leoti, where they 
owned and operated Jack’s Restaurant. The two of them made quite the 
pair and became a highly sought after Trucking Duo. In Ray’s time as a 
driver with Groendyke he received an award for over one million miles 
safe driving and more so in his time with National Carriers not only did
 he receive an award for over three million miles safe driving he and 
Lucy were a Priority Team, often times dropping their own load to dead 
head across the US to finish a job for someone else and meet a scheduled
 deadline. 
Ray was a prayer warrior for and with his friends from Full Gospel Men's
 Fellowship, Prairie View Church at Friend, Ks and here in Leoti, 
Transports for Christ international and sometimes in the middle of the 
night. He had hosts of friends. He was true patriot and loved America 
having served in both the Army and National Guard. He was a friend to 
all and lived by the Ten Commandments maybe even adding in one or two of
 his own. He enjoyed music and would just sit and listen as Lucy played 
the organ in the back room. He loved his community and wanted to make

Gloria Ann Korpi, age 70, of WaKeeney, 
KS died Sunday, May 23, 2021, at Trego-Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term 
Care - WaKeeney. She was born in WaKeeney on September 27, 1950.

Gloria Ann is preceded by her parents 
Michael and Armella Dreiling and brother Michael Dreiling, all of 
WaKeeney. Survivors are her husband Robert Korpi of WaKeeney, her

Donald Eugene “Don” Deines, born February 11, 1930, in Hays, Kansas, 
son of Palmer E. and Caroline (Massier) Deines, departed this life on 
May 25, 2021, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, in
 WaKeeney, Kansas at the age of 91.

Donald was baptized February 23, 1930 at Christ Lutheran Church, 
Ellis, Kansas, and was confirmed into the membership of Bethlehem 
Lutheran Church in WaKeeney on February 3, 1952, where he has been an 
active member. Donald served on the church council for 6 years and was a
 sponsor for the Senior High Youth Group at the church for 4 years. 
Donald attended rural Trego Elementary schools and was a 1949 graduate 
of the Trego Community High School, participating in all sports during 
his high school years.

On April 14, 1953, Donald was united in marriage to Helen Caroline 
Zachman at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ellis. They made their home on 
the farm 1 ½ miles southeast of WaKeeney. To this union one son, Dean 
Alan, was born.

Donald was a farmer and stockman, also for many years employed with 
Deines Construction Company of WaKeeney, helping to construct several 
churches, businesses, and homes, locally and in the nearby communities.

Donald loved the outdoors and spent many hours fishing, hunting and 
trapping. He also was an avid sports fan, especially football and 
baseball, keeping up with all teams. Donald played baseball and 
basketball on the town teams for many years after his school years.

Donald’s biggest pride and joy are his son Dean and daughter-in-law 
Christine. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer E. and 
Caroline Deines; and sister Eleanor Swank.

Donald is survived by his wife Helen; son Dean (Christine) Deines of 
Austin, Texas; his twin sister Dona Smith of Great Bend, Kansas; his 
many relatives and friends and “my Brenda.”

Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM, Friday, May 28, 2021, at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 
Bethlehem Lutheran Church, WaKeeney, with committal taking place at 
WaKeeney City cemetery.

Donald Eugene 'Don' Deines

Norman “Brandy” Lee Brandyberry, 88, was born July 5, 1932, in Rural 
Graham County south of Hill City on the old family farmstead to Walter 
Abraham and Virginia Pearl (Knouf) Brandyberry. He passed away 
peacefully at the Graham County Hospital May 23, 2021. 
 Norman grew up in Southeast Graham County and started school in a 
one room schoolhouse. Norman’s fondest memory of that early time was 
when the teacher drove her new car to the school, and he experienced his
 first car ride. Norman graduated from Hill City High School in 1950, 
which was in the old three-story building. Many times, his friend Verlin
 Parks (nicknamed Goose) would literally pick him up and say, “Let’s go 
to class." He then proceeded to carry him up the stairs to class. 
 Following graduation, Norman worked at the Wanker Gas Station where 
he met Phyllis Maupin. They were married May 31, 1952. To this union 
seven children were born: Neal, Bonny, Darla, Penny, Lea Ann, Tim, and 
Jeanette. Norman worked as a farmhand, first for his father-in-law Mutt 
Maupin, and then Lew Ninemire and with his Uncle Frank Brandyberry. He 
also worked for Irv Hardman for many years in the Graham and Norton 
County areas. Norman and Phyllis raised their family on the farm and 
taught them about farming and livestock. All of them still have a 
passion for that life today. 
 In the early 1980s, Norman and Phyllis moved the household to Hill 
City where he went to work for the City of Hill City as Water 
Superintendent. He oversaw both the water and wastewater plants. In 
addition to his regular duties, he maintained the Hill City swimming 
pool during the summer months. 
 When Norman retired in 1995, he and Phyllis moved to Derby, Kansas to be near their son Tim and family. Here Norman helped with 
 Tim’s custom hay and cattle operation. He truly enjoyed this work 
until his failing health interfered. Consequently, Norman and Phyllis 
moved 
 back to Graham County where Norman was surrounded by family and 
friends. He always looked forward to frequent visits with his 
grandchildren. However, he could manage to sneak in a nap in spite of 
all the noise and chatter around him. Norman loved his family and was 
very proud of them. He also had a sincere fondness for all his 
critters, both small and large. 
 Norman is predeceased by his parents, W. A. “Cot” and Virginia 
(Knouf) Brandyberry; one brother Ardon Brandyberry; two sisters: Vada 
Tallman and Elaine Brandyberry. 
 Norman is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Phyllis Elaine 
(Maupin) Brandyberry; his two sons: Neal (Gail) Brandyberry of 
Republican City, Nebraska and Timothy (Jacki) Brandyberry of Derby; five
 daughters: Bonny (Ed) Jordon of Lenora; Darla (Dan) Goodrow of 
Ellinwood, Penny (the late Lyndall) Turner of Bluehill, Nebraska, Lea 
Ann (Brett) Sharpe of McPherson, and Jeanette (Larry) Mueller of 
Wichita; 28 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and two great- great 
grandchildren.

Neil Harmon Fischer

Patricia Ann Kern passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at the Redbud 
Village in Plainville, KS, at the age of 79. She was born on April 24, 
1942 in Hays, KS to Frank and Minifee (Baltzell) Runyan.
 Patricia was a lifelong resident of Rooks County. She attended and graduated from Plainvile High School with the class of 1960. 
 Pat was attending a movie in Plainville, sitting on the balcony, 
when a young Robert Kern caught her eye. She looked over at her friend 
and said “I’m gonna marry that boy one day”, and low and behold the 
couple were united in marriage on June 5, 1960 in Plainville. They were 
blessed with three boys: Robert Jr., Paul, and David. Pat wore many hats
 as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. If she 
was not assisting Robert managing the Kern Stores, running the Kern Cafe
 and raising the boys, she was busy with the Coffee Girls, Palco Pride, 
and camping with her family. Pat loved Elvis and country music. If she 
had the chance to relax, she would watch a western, John Wayne was her 
favorite. She loved to work a crossword, sew and screen-print shirts. 
Pat belonged to the St. Ann’s Catholic Church until it closed and then 
attended St. Joseph’s in Damar.
 Pat had a deep love and devotion for her husband, children, 
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family. Her great love and faith
 in God was not only a constant source of strength for herself, but also
 for all who knew her. May she now finally rest without pain and stand 
without blemish and watch over those she leaves behind.
 She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Minifee Runyan; and brother-in-law Francis Kern.
 Left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert Kern Jr. of 
Palco, Paul Kern of Dallas, TX, and David Kern of Colby, KS; sisters, 
Pam (Richard) Young of AR, and Gladys (Ken) Schoo of MO; four 
grandchildren, Krissen (Michael) Hamm, Bradley Kern, Mallory Kern, and 
Miranda Kern; and six great-grandchildren, Jason, Travis, Atticus, 
Michael, Joe, and Sophie.
 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 
10 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Visitation will
 be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 3PM until 8PM with a Vigil
 Service at 7PM.

Norma Kuhlman, 80, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Mary Lanning Hospital, Hastings, NE.

Norma Kuhlman, 80, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Mary Lanning Hospital, Hastings, NE.Arrangements are pending with All Faiths Funeral Chapel.

Priscilla E. Porter, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Rahjes) 
Seeman, was born in Kensington, KS on March 20, 1939.&nbsp; She died May 23, 
2021, at the Andbe Home in Norton, KS at the age of 82.

On May 2, 1971, at St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington, she was 
united in marriage to Benjamin Porter of Hastings, NE.&nbsp; Ben had two 
daughters Tammie and Cindy at the time of their marriage.&nbsp; Sadly, Ben 
died suddenly on January 23, 2001.

Priscilla worked outside the home most of her life.&nbsp; She started at 
Rietzke’s Grocery Store in Kensington, then worked at the Smith Center 
Medical Clinic up until her marriage when she moved to Hastings.&nbsp; She 
then took a job at Brommers Eye Glass Dispensary where she stayed for 20
 years until it closed.&nbsp; Priscilla was looking for a new job when she 
saw an ad in the Hastings Tribune for a sales clerk in Allen’s Wine 
Cellar.&nbsp; She applied and worked there for the next 20 years.&nbsp;

She was a fun loving person.&nbsp; People loved her and she loved people!&nbsp;
 She always had a big smile and great laugh.&nbsp; She had this way of 
tilting her head, raising her eyebrows that no one else could match!

Priscilla loved her Lord and Savior.&nbsp; She attended regular church 
services at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shephard in Hastings.&nbsp; She 
was also an active member of the ladies circle and participated in 
numerous church functions.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben; four brothers
 Paul Christian, John, Rudolph, and Paul; and seven sisters Doris 
Strege, Ruth Seemann, Julie Landvalter, Wilma Wangerin, Cecilia 
Grauerholz, Marie Wangerin, and Alma Johnson.

Survivors include her step-daughters Tammy Garcia and Cynthia Porter,
 both of Lakewood, CO; a brother Thomas Seemann of Johnson, KS; two 
sister’s-in-law Kay Seemann of Smith Center, KS and Margaret Seeman of 
Norton, KS; and multiple nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Priscilla will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 28, 
2021 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington, KS with Pastor Lorna

 She was born Jan. 6, 1940, in Ransom to Ray and Mary Rosalie (Doty) Sonnenburg.
 She married Jerry Poage on May 31, 1959, in Ransom. 
 Survivors include her husband, Hill City; a son, Trent Poage, 
Columbia/Waverly, Missouri; a brother, Ken Schweitzer, Lenexa; a 
sister, Linda McFadden, Shawnee; and two grandsons.

Barbara Dale Poage

Clifford James Luke, 72, passed away April 17, 2021, at his home in 
Great Bend. He was born September 29, 1948, at Rochelle, Ill., to Chalon
 &amp; Avis (Lewis) Luke. He married Kathleen Spurgeon March 19, 2004, 
at Gibson City, Ill.

A resident of Great Bend since 2019, Clifford worked in the 
agriculture and canning industries in Illinois for many years. He 
enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends. For several 
years he used his vacation to go on mission work trips at Kemmerer 
Village Children’s Home. His passion was gardening, especially growing 
tomatoes.

Survivors include, his wife, Reverend Kathleen Luke of First 
Presbyterian Church; two sons, Christopher (Lynn) Luke and Corey (Lisa) 
Luke; a step daughter, Stef Edmisson Mirjah; a step son, Joseph 
Edmisson; and four grandchildren, Madelyn, Travis, Truman and Scarlett. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Cheryl Luke.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., 
Saturday, June 12, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend. A 
Celebration of Life Service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the church, 
with Reverend Julie Bunt presiding. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials have

Clifford James Luke

Former Salida resident Jeanne Adele Schoech, 76, died April 20, 2021, in
 Clifton, Colorado. 


Jeanne was born October 18, 1944, to Maxine Bradbury and Gene Stanwood. 
Jeanne grew up in Ellis, Kansas. Jeanne’s fondest memories of her 
childhood included a love of dance, travels with her Grandpa Max, and 
the joys of growing up in a small town. She later attended Fort Hays 
State University where she furthered her love of the arts. 

 
In 1966, she married David Schoech. During the first years of their 
marriage, Jeanne and David lived in California while David served in the
 Navy. A desire to be close to family brought the young couple back to 
Kansas in 1970. 

Jeanne savored these years being close to family but 
also found joy fostering her own personal love of dance. Jeanne opened 
her own dance studio in the basement of their family home. It wasn’t 
long before Jeanne’s studio expanded and she was busy offering classes 
and coordinating recitals. Jeanne’s love of dance was also shared with 
all of her children, as each of her four children took classes, 
performed in recitals, and continued through the generations. 
In 1986, Jeanne and David followed their dream of moving to Colorado. 
Jeanne continued to teach dance but also discovered a love for teaching 
in schools. Jeanne spent many years working as a paraprofessional 
supporting students receiving special education services related to an 
emotional or behavioral disability. Jeanne had an amazing way of 
blending all the things she loved in life. 

Her professional work was no 
different. During her time working in schools, Jeanne brought dance, 
dogs, and her love of reading to students. Jeanne developed Paws for 
Reading, an after school reading program where students had an 
opportunity to read aloud to a dog, Kids in Action, which provided 
creative dance lessons to elementary students, and provided the students
 she supported access to unlimited love, devotion, trust, and learning 
through her development Dog Days, a therapy and dog training program 
utilized in the special education classroom where Jeanne taught. Jeanne 
savored her many adventures with dogs and captured this in the book she 
published titled Hank and Company: Paws for Therapy. 

 
After Jeanne had finished raising her children, she fulfilled a lifelong
 dream of obtaining a college education. Jeanne left her home of Salida,
 Colorado for the big city. She moved to Aurora, Colorado and completed 
her Associate of the Arts degree, and went on to work as an educator in 
preschools. She also continued to advocate for students and dogs by 
developing a therapy dog organization at a local residential treatment 
center. Jeanne always believed in the healing bond that is built between
 a dog and a human and modeled this belief all her life.  
Jeanne spent the last years of her life living in Clifton, Colorado. She
 was thankful for the time spent closer to her daughter Jana, and two 
grandchildren, Josh and Morgan. 

During this time, Jeanne continued to 
support her love of dogs by becoming a board member of the Grand Valley 
Kennel Club where she supported the annual dog show, volunteering with 
students to provide a foundation of dog knowledge, and contributing to 
the animal care fair.  
Jeanne’s creativity, wisdom, and determination were evident throughout 
her life! She had an amazing ability to find gratitude in the moment. 
She was intentional in noticing the snow-capped mountains, the blue sky,
 the “fairies” in her garden, or the leaves crunching under her feet. 
She relished in time with family, friendships, sitting on the patio, 
trips to New Mexico, garage sales, the sight of a hummingbird, homegrown
 tomatoes, family traditions, a dog at her side, fresh flowers, a good 
book, dancing, watching the Grand Mesa turn pink, telling stories, and 
laughing. 

Her family and friends are reminded of these words when 
remembering Jeanne: “you have done all this without a word, a touch or a
 deed. You have done this by being yourself.” There is no question 
Jeanne’s love of life and family will live on forever. 

 
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, David Schoech, 
grandparents, Della and Max Underhill, mother, Maxine Bradbury, and 
father, Gene Stanwood. 

 
Survivors include son, Michael, and wife Mary Schoech, of Russell, 
Kansas, son, Todd and wife, Christine (Kris) Schoech of Salida, 
Colorado; daughter, Jana Schoech of Grand Junction, Colorado, daughter, 
Laura Trapp and husband Jim Trapp of Loveland, Colorado; grandson, 
Justin Schoech, grandson, Matt Schoech, granddaughter, Jessica Schoech, 
grandson, Josh Reynolds, granddaughter, Morgan Reynolds, grandson, 
Easton Trapp, granddaughter, Presley Trapp, and a great-grandchild, 
Analeigha and David Schoech.  Also surviving is a brother, Donald 
Bradbury. 
Burial and service are planned at Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis Kansas on 
July 24, 2021, at 10:00 am. A brunch at Ellis Public Library will follow.

Kansas passed away Friday, May 14, 2021, at Hays Medical Center. He was 
born June 16, 1950, to Lawrence and Minnie (Haneke) Ashbaugh.&nbsp;

Steve attended Ellis schools and was a lifetime Ellis Resident.

He was a brother of Sandra, Dixie, Darwin and Dwayne.

How does one condense a person's full, adventurous life into just a few, short paragraphs?
 For the people that knew Wade, it really is not necessary. We have 
our memories of a fella that was tough and strong on the outside yet 
wore his heart on his sleeve. He was a teller of BIG stories and 
thoroughly enjoyed playing any kind of game or any prank. Wade believed 
in working hard and playing hard. His boys learned very early on to 
never say they were bored as he was the ultimate taskmaster.
 To those who met Wade in passing, or while making a deal, you only 
saw a smidgen of a great guy. You may have noticed his clever, creative,
 artistic side as he built decks, carved antlers, or created lariat rope
 lamps. Many have witnessed his hunting prowess, always knowing where 
the pheasant or coyote would be. Some have seen that he was an intuitive
 horseman that could calm a colt or rope a steer.
 Wade's young buddies know he spent his early years drifting between 
the Hill City, Kansas school system and the family farm, the swimming 
pool, out to Grandpa Tiny's to hunt or to Grandpa Critchfield’s for 
butterscotch pudding. He enjoyed playing baseball, (not watching it) and
 drag racing down Hwy 24, but it was mostly all about hunting or rodeo.
 To Michelle Graham, Wade was her treasure. They met the spring of 
1983 in Hays, Kansas, at the stable where they both boarded their 
horses, and they were married by that October. They were blessed with 
two amazing sons, Hylan Koby in 1988 and then in 1993, Bryce Kannen was 
born. Wade loved being called "Grandpa" by Hylan's sons, Kael and Kaden,
 the two rays of sunshine in his life.
 For those of us who worked with Wade, we remember his determination 
to do things "The Critchfield Way". Much of his adult life, he worked 
for his brother Stan at Superior Mobile Home Moving, Inc. While living 
in Colorado Springs for seven years, he owned and operated his 
residential painting business, but also found his real passion when he 
started to buy and sell at flea markets. He followed his love of 
everything Western and joined the National Western Bit and Spur Assoc., 
going to cowboy shows from Texas to Wyoming. Wade also had shorter 
stints as a pen rider at Penokee Feedlot, cowboyed for Legere Ranch in 
New Mexico, as well as farming and running his own herd of Red Angus 
cows.
 To all his family and friends, please know that Wade held your 
relationships close to his heart and appreciated everything he had 
learned from you. He never forgot a trade he had made. He remembered who
 had taught him to waterski, how to build a straight fence, recognize a 
fake antique, ride a bull, fly a plane (if only for 30 seconds!), finish
 concrete or swing a golf club. He always seemed to figure things out. 
 Wade fell asleep in death with bravery and faith in Jehovah's 
promises for the future, on May 16, 2021 at the Graham County Hospital 
in Hill City, Kansas.
 Wade was proceeded in death by his dad Jesse Junior Critchfield, his
 brother Stanley Critchfield and two nephews. Wade has left behind his 
wife Michelle of Hill City; his son Hylan with wife Samantha (Cano), 
Kael and Kaden of Colby; his son Bryce of Hill City; his mother Yvonne 
(Stinemetz) Critchfield of Hill City; his sister Charlene Yearout with 
Phil of Andover; his sister Colleen Herlevich with Dan of Littleton, 
Colorado; sister-in-law Sherry Critchfield of Bend, Oregon, plus many 
nieces and nephews.
 A private family graveside service will be held later.

thoroughly enjoyed playing any kind of game or any prank. Wade believed 
in working hard and playing hard. His boys learned very early on to 
never say they were bored as he was the ultimate taskmaster.
 To those who met Wade in passing, or while making a deal, you only 
saw a smidgen of a great guy. You may have noticed his clever, creative,
 artistic side as he built decks, carved antlers, or created lariat rope
 lamps. Many have witnessed his hunting prowess, always knowing where 
the pheasant or coyote would be. Some have seen that he was an intuitive
 horseman that could calm a colt or rope a steer.
 Wade's young buddies know he spent his early years drifting between 
the Hill City, Kansas school system and the family farm, the swimming 
pool, out to Grandpa Tiny's to hunt or to Grandpa Critchfield’s for 
butterscotch pudding. He enjoyed playing baseball, (not watching it) and
 drag racing down Hwy 24, but it was mostly all about hunting or rodeo.
 To Michelle Graham, Wade was her treasure. They met the spring of 
1983 in Hays, Kansas, at the stable where they both boarded their 
horses, and they were married by that October. They were blessed with 
two amazing sons, Hylan Koby in 1988 and then in 1993, Bryce Kannen was 
born. Wade loved being called "Grandpa" by Hylan's sons, Kael and Kaden,
 the two rays of sunshine in his life.
 For those of us who worked with Wade, we remember his determination 
to do things "The Critchfield Way". Much of his adult life, he worked 
for his brother Stan at Superior Mobile Home Moving, Inc. While living 
in Colorado Springs for seven years, he owned and operated his 
residential painting business, but also found his real passion when he 
started to buy and sell at flea markets. He followed his love of 
everything Western and joined the National Western Bit and Spur Assoc., 
going to cowboy shows from Texas to Wyoming. Wade also had shorter 
stints as a pen rider at Penokee Feedlot, cowboyed for Legere Ranch in 
New Mexico, as well as farming and running his own herd of Red Angus 
cows.
 To all his family and friends, please know that Wade held your 
relationships close to his heart and appreciated everything he had 
learned from you. He never forgot a trade he had made. He remembered who
 had taught him to waterski, how to build a straight fence, recognize a 
fake antique, ride a bull, fly a plane (if only for 30 seconds!), finish
 concrete or swing a golf club. He always seemed to figure things out. 
 Wade fell asleep in death with bravery and faith in Jehovah's 
promises for the future, on May 16, 2021 at the Graham County Hospital 
in Hill City, Kansas.
 Wade was proceeded in death by his dad Jesse Junior Critchfield, his
 brother Stanley Critchfield and two nephews. Wade has left behind his 
wife Michelle of Hill City; his son Hylan with wife Samantha (Cano), 
Kael and Kaden of Colby; his son Bryce of Hill City; his mother Yvonne 
(Stinemetz) Critchfield of Hill City; his sister Charlene Yearout with 
Phil of Andover; his sister Colleen Herlevich with Dan of Littleton, 
Colorado; sister-in-law Sherry Critchfield of Bend, Oregon, plus many 
nieces and nephews.
 A private family graveside service will be held later.

Mark Wade Critchfield

Bethold Joseph “B.J.” Hirt, 81, died on May 21 in Lincoln, Neb., after
 a short battle with cancer. He was a wonderful father, husband, 
teacher, scientist, master woodworker and friend to anybody who stopped 
by the shop in his garage to chat. He was kind and gentle and generous 
in many unassuming ways; a hard-working farm kid to the core. Born in 
1940 to Bethold and Evelyn Hirt, he grew up in Dorrance, Kan., and 
graduated from Dorrance High School, Fort Hays State College and Kansas 
State University, where he earned his PhD in 1968. He was a tall fellow 
and loved sports. His high school team won the 1956 Kansas State 
Basketball Championship (Div. BB), and he went on to play basketball at 
Fort Hays State. He also played a mean trombone when he was young.

It was at K-State that he married Donna Dlabal. From there they moved
 to Wayne, Neb., where Hirt was a professor of biology at Wayne State 
College. In 1978, they and their three children moved to Lincoln, Neb. 
Hirt taught biology, physiology and anatomy to thousands of students at 
Lincoln High School before retiring in 1998. He was a skilled woodworker
 who could build or fix anything. People came to his shop from far and 
wide with their family heirlooms, and he saved untold hundreds of broken
 chairs, tables, beds and other pieces of furniture from the trash heap,
 usually using salvaged wood.

Hirt enjoyed simple pleasures: a huge pile of fire wood, taking the 
long way and the country roads, a bag of peanut clusters or a chocolate 
chip cookie. He was a smart cookie himself and knew a lot about a lot of
 things. There was always a well-read newspaper or a crossword near his 
chair and the History Channel on the TV. He was great at Jeopardy. He 
was a man of science but also a man of faith. He was a realist but also 
an optimist. There is so much more we would like to say, but a really 
long obituary would not be his style.

He is survived by Doni, his wife of 56 years; his children and their 
spouses: Jane Hirt (Michael Lenzi) of Chicago, Susan Hirt (Brian) of 
Chesterfield, Mo., and Mitch Hirt (Lori) of Lincoln; his grandchildren 
Nathan and Evan; his sister Rosa Lee Whitmer (Richard) of Wilson, Kan.; 
and many nieces and nephews around the country. They will miss him 
greatly.

Visitation with the Family present will be at Butherus, Maser &amp; 
Love, 4040 A. St., in Lincoln on Monday, May 24, 2021, 3-7pm. Mass of 
Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 26 at 10:30am at St. Joseph

returning inside from his garage. He now joined his beloved late wife B.B. in eternal love up in heaven.

On March 3, 1979, he married B. B. Steward in Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She passed away on August 2, 1994, in Denver, Colorado.

Robert, also known as Bob, was born on May 27th, 1950, in Garden City 
Kansas, son of J.R. and Ellender Huffman Strickert.&nbsp; He was raised in 
Scott City Kansas on the Silver King Ranch. During high school, he 
enjoyed many things like band and debate and was well known for his 
accomplishment in those areas. After graduating high school he went to 
cosmetology school at the Garden City community college in Garden City, 
Kansas. After that, he completed multiple ASE certifications and 
maintain them for over 40 years. He had fabricated and patented many 
types of equipment within the mechanical field. Many who knew him knew 
his expertise with any vehicle and mechanical machine.

He married the love of his life on March 3rd, 1979. Robert and B. B. 
were married for 15 beautiful years until her passing on August 2nd, 
1994. He said to me he would never find love like that again. In his 
late years, he also studied gunsmithing and received a degree at the age
 of 65. He completed the 9-month course in only 30 days and had a 
perfect score.

Robert was a loving man that enjoyed being around family and helped 
many of us when we needed him. He was always a shoulder to cry on and 
reliable no matter what. He will be missed and never forgotten...Fly

Mark “Papa” Darin Brightbill, 55, of Salina, passed away peacefully 
with his family by his side on Friday, May 21, 2021.&nbsp; Mark was born in 
Salina on April 22, 1966, to Fred and Ardyth (Sims) Brightbill.&nbsp;

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Karen, Salina; 
daughter, Laney Roths (Dustin), Hays; son, Mason (Grace), Overland Park;
 and two grandchildren, his pride and joy, Nolan and Scarlett Roths.

Mark is also survived by his parents, Fred and Ardyth Brightbill; 
siblings, Scott Brightbill, Trace Brightbill (Sandy), and Nicole Wisbey 
(Steve), all of Salina; his father and mother-in-law, Austin and Barbara
 Allen, Salina; brothers-in-law, Rick Allen (Theresa), Shawnee, and Ron 
Allen (Sandy), Seattle, Wash.; and sister-in-law, Kathy Clark (Chris), 
Salina; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a host of 
friends. This list would not be complete without mentioning his best 
friend, faithful canine companion, and napping partner, Zoe.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Thelma Brightbill, and Wilson and Letta Sims, Salina.

Mark attended Kansas State University upon graduating from Salina 
South High School.&nbsp; His Hodgkin’s Lymphoma diagnosis put his college 
career on hold while he received treatment. During that time he worked 
various jobs, including A&amp;B Machine, where he grew up working side 
by side with his father and brothers.&nbsp;

While in Salina, he met and fell in love with his lifetime partner, 
and they were united in marriage on October 11, 1986, at First Covenant 
Church.&nbsp; His mechanical background landed him a position with Boeing 
Aerospace Operations working on the B1B Bomber Simulator in Alabama, 
Texas, and Wichita, Kan.&nbsp; Family ties brought them back to Salina where 
he completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering at K-State Salina.&nbsp; 
His skills were put to use at KASA Industrial Controls and Exline until 
he found his way back to his roots at A&amp;B Machine.&nbsp; Mark and Karen 
purchased A&amp;B from his parents and ran it for 10 years before his 
health forced him to retire in 2019.

Mark’s successful career waned in comparison to his personal success 
as a husband, father, Papa, son, uncle, and friend.&nbsp; He will forever be 
remembered for his love of life, whether it was playing cards and games,
 restoring cars, creating art, playing golf, or his favorite passion – 
weekend fishing with his friends of the Air Capital Bass Masters Club or
 trips to Texoma with family and friends.&nbsp; Mark found ways to make an 
impact without being in the spotlight.&nbsp; His behind the scenes giving, 
truly from the heart, benefitted many in the community.&nbsp; He was always 
thinking of others and lending an ear.&nbsp; His grit and determination to 
walk his daughter down the aisle awarded him the Mettle of Honor at 
Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in 2016.&nbsp; Mark’s claim to fame was his 
debut as Mr. August in the Madonna 2016 calendar.&nbsp; He was also active in
 Relay for Life and volunteered at Camp Hope, a camp for children who 
have or have had cancer.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 27 from 4-8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, 
137 N. 8th, Salina, Kan., with family present from 6-8.&nbsp; A funeral

Carl Joseph Mumm, 91, of Selden, KS passed away May 20, 2021, in Hoxie, 
Kansas. He was born April 15, 1930, in Rural Sheridan County, Kansas, to 
Anthony and Mary (Kemper) Mumm. 
 Carl lived in the same home for 89 years in Selden. He married 
Delores Schmaderer on February 9, 1963, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 
in Atwood. Carl was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church 
in Selden and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. In his spare
 time, he enjoyed playing cards, which he was quite good at, and bingo. 
He loved to joke and talk and was always willing to help anyone in need.
 
 Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mary; wife, 
Delores and brother-in-law, Cletus Ritter.

He is survived by his sister,
 Wilma Ritter; nephews: Mike Ritter, Bernard Ritter, Robert (Laura)

Carl Joseph Mumm

The subject decedent, Kenneth L. Kerns, was born, or perhaps stork delivered, on the 29th
 day of December, 1943, at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital located 
in El Dorado, Butler County, Kansas.&nbsp;He was the son, and first child, of
 Clarence H. Kerns and Vivian R. (Hursh) Kerns, husband and wife.

The father, Clarence H. Kerns, was personally present at the 
conception of the subject decedent, but was not personally present at 
the time of the birth of his son. At the time of such birth, or stork 
delivery, Clarence H. Kerns was on active duty in the Army Air Corps, 
and stationed at Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was involved in a B-29 
project relating to the development of a bomb of some type, and he 
always considered Grand Forks, North Dakota, to be a wonderful, tropical
 retreat.

Kenneth L. Kerns grew up at El Dorado, Kansas, a community noted at 
the time for two active oil refineries, and in conjunction therewith, 
noted for pure, clean air. However, he is indebted to Skelly Oil Co. for
 providing refinery employment for Clarence H. Kerns.

Kenneth strongly believed that having an opportunity to grow up in a 
small, midwestern community during the 1950’s was a definite blessing. 
He was convinced that there has never been a better time to encounter 
the joys and hardships of youth and puberty. He strongly believed that 
we need to return to a political administration under the direction of 
one Dwight David Eisenhower, with all citizens being blessed with a 1957
 Chevrolet.

Ken attended and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1961 and 
then attended and graduated from El Dorado Junior College, now known as 
Butler County Community College, in 1963. He then attended and graduated
 from Kansas State College at Pittsburg in 1965. He acquired a 
Bachelor’s Degree, the primary focus being social or political science. 
At such time, he intended to become a secondary level school teacher. 
However, he was persuaded by a very good friend to submit himself to the
 law school admission test, and, thereafter, decided to attend law 
school.

Ken attended and graduated from Washburn University School of Law in 1968, with a Juris Doctorate being granted.

He commenced the practice of law at Great Bend, Kansas during August,
 1968. He continued with the practice of law from 1968 to the time of 
his death.

With reference to his practice of law, he was initially hired by 
another attorney in Great Bend, Kansas. However, he terminated this 
employment arrangement during the year 1972. The termination was 
initiated and completed by Kenneth, the same being based upon a lack of 
ethics coupled with active deception and dishonesty on the part of the 
employer.

In view of the duration of his practice of law, one must certainly 
conclude that he was older than dirt at the time of his demise.

He married one Sherry E. Payne during the early part of the year 
1965. From this union, one child was produced, Brian L. Kerns, Brian now
 residing at Austin, Texas. This marriage was regrettably terminated by 
divorce during the year 1975. Sherry E. (Payne) Kerns survives.

He then married one Elizabeth “Liz” (Herrman) Rebel at Kingman, 
Kansas during the year 1977. This marriage was thankfully terminated by 
divorce, the marriage termination undoubtedly extending his life 
expectancy substantially. Elizabeth “Liz” (Herrman)(Rebel)(Kerns) Taylor
 survives.

He then married one Connie M. Bell during March, 1990. This marriage 
has thankfully survived. He frequently expressed the belief that he had 
finally located a “good” woman.

Kenneth L. Kerns is survived by his wife, Connie, his son, Brian L. 
Kerns, and wife, Tamra, of Austin, Texas, his step-daughter, Rhonda 
Weingrad and her husband Mark (the food mooch), of Great Bend, his 
grandson, Landen Kerns, his granddaughter, McKenna Kerns, his 
step-granddaughter, Ashley McGinnis, and her husband, Sam and Baby Mac, 
his step-granddaughter, Autumn Weingrad, and his good friend and 
companion, Sherman the Cat. He is also survived by a brother, Maynard L.
 Kerns, of El Dorado, Kansas and a sister, Mary Gayle Spoon and husband 
Dean, of Leon, Kansas. He was also predeceased by his great friend, 
Stonewall the Cat, his fuzzy companion, Buggzer the Rabbit, and the 
great animal, Miss Kitty the Cat.

During his presence in Great Bend, Kansas, the subject decedent was a
 member and held various offices with the Great Bend Jaycees, and a 
member and officer of the state Jaycee organization. He was also a 
member of Elks Lodge No. 1127 for a substantial number of years, and an 
auxiliary member of the V.F.W. For several years, he served as the 
advisor to an explorer post, legal related, under the Boy Scout 
organization. He was also involved in instrumental and initiating Hope, 
Incorporated, a predecessor to organizations now existing to assist the 
mentally challenged. He has been a member of the Barton County Bar 
Association since 1968, and has served as both the president and the 
secretary of such organization. He has also been a member of the Kansas 
Bar Association since 1968.

During his presence in Great Bend, Kansas, he has been a member of 
the First Presbyterian Church, and is presently a member of the First 
Christian Church.

Individuals who have been associated and acquainted with Mr. Kerns 
will certainly attest that he always expounded progressive ideas. He 
honored a lifetime mandate, this being as follows: “Change is Bad”. He 
undoubtedly considers his present state of lifelessness to fit within 
the same category, that being that this “change” is bad.

Ken did encounter some difficulty with electronic devices as well as 
anything mechanical. Had he been the king of the world, he would have 
undoubtedly destroyed all computers, cell phones and related items. He 
held an extreme dislike for the electronic filing approach adopted by 
the court system in the State of Kansas, such feeling being amplified by
 the destructive force of the same, in the opinion of Mr. Kerns, to the 
legal profession.

At the time of his death, the subject decedent was extremely 
discouraged as to the state of the legal profession. In the opinion of 
Mr. Kerns, the permissive use of advertising for the legal profession 
basically eliminated professionalism. He strongly believed that, with 
all due respect, the electronic filing system now mandated was 
undoubtedly the most incredibly stupid change ever forced upon the 
practicing attorneys and basically inserted the “Final Nail” into the 
coffin of professionalism.

At the commencement of his legal career, he was extremely proud of 
the legal profession, and his involvement in the same. At the time of 
death, he was extremely discouraged as to the state of the legal 
profession, it being his belief that advertising, a lack of ethics, a 
lack of honesty, and the adoption of greedy concepts have been extremely
 destructive to the legal profession.

Kenneth L. Kerns elected to check it in on the 22nd day of May, 2021.

Should a monument of some type be required to commemorate the life of
 the subject decedent, he would suggest the following inscription: “Your
 Honor, I object”.&nbsp;

Friends may come to Bryant Funeral Home to sign the register book 
from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 11, 2021, and the family will 
receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held at 
2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor

 </figure>The subject decedent, Kenneth L. Kerns, was born, or perhaps stork delivered, on the 29th
 day of December, 1943, at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital located 
in El Dorado, Butler County, Kansas.&nbsp;He was the son, and first child, of
 Clarence H. Kerns and Vivian R. (Hursh) Kerns, husband and wife.The father, Clarence H. Kerns, was personally present at the 
conception of the subject decedent, but was not personally present at 
the time of the birth of his son. At the time of such birth, or stork 
delivery, Clarence H. Kerns was on active duty in the Army Air Corps, 
and stationed at Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was involved in a B-29 
project relating to the development of a bomb of some type, and he 
always considered Grand Forks, North Dakota, to be a wonderful, tropical
 retreat.Kenneth L. Kerns grew up at El Dorado, Kansas, a community noted at 
the time for two active oil refineries, and in conjunction therewith, 
noted for pure, clean air. However, he is indebted to Skelly Oil Co. for
 providing refinery employment for Clarence H. Kerns.Kenneth strongly believed that having an opportunity to grow up in a 
small, midwestern community during the 1950’s was a definite blessing. 
He was convinced that there has never been a better time to encounter 
the joys and hardships of youth and puberty. He strongly believed that 
we need to return to a political administration under the direction of 
one Dwight David Eisenhower, with all citizens being blessed with a 1957

Logan resident Rosemary Horn passed away May 12, 2021, at the Logan Manor in Logan at the age of 80.

She was born November 2, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Carson E. and Gertrude R. (Higley) Stubblefield.

She enjoyed reading and Bible study.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sons Bob Husband of Pierceville, KS, and Jeff 
Husband of Woodland Park, CO, one sister, Nikki&nbsp; Jile of Oklahoma, and 5
 grandchildren, Steve, Jenny, Jan, Holly and Ryan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Clifford 
Eldon Husband and Larry Horn, two brothers Lee Allen Stubblefield and 
William Carson Stubblefield, one sister Cynthia Ryan, and three children
 Clint Swanson, Sonny and Vicky Swanson.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held Saturday, 
May 29, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan with 
Pastor Troy Buss officiating.
