We lost a Beautiful soul, Janice M. (Keller) Becker, 78, from earth 
into heaven. She was trapped in her body on earth with a very tough 
fight with dementia. She remained kind, happy, resolute and devoted to 
her husband and family through it all. A class act in sickness and in 
health. Such a wonderful role model for many. Humble and unselfish, 
always there for us when we needed her. She peacefully passed in her 
sleep, Sunday morning, April 25, 2021, at Showalter Villa, Hesston.

Born on December 16, 1942, the youngest and only girl to Charlie and 
Lucile (Duddy) Keller in Great Bend. She married her first and only 
love, Jerry Becker, June 20, 1960, in Seward. They were married for 59 
years.

Jan was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, business 
woman, cub scout leader, drum Corps mom, active church member of Holy 
Cross Catholic Church in Hutchinson, Argonne Rebel director and former 
teacher at Holy Cross Catholic School in Hutchinson. She enjoyed camping
 and boating but especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include, her husband, Jerry Becker of the home; four 
children, Bradley Becker and wife Sandi of Great Bend, Gregory Becker 
and Michael Becker, both of Springfield, Mo., and Diane Grigg and 
husband Travis of Denton, Tex.; thirteen grandchildren, Zachary, Jordyn,
 Luke, Ryan, Lindsey, Malorie, Natalie, Matthew, Haley, Jace, Cole, 
Cannon, and Ainsley; and five great grandchildren. &nbsp;She was preceded in 
death by her parents; and three brothers, Norman Keller, Marvin Keller 
and Jim Keller.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2021,
 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society rosary at 4:00 p.m. and 
Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 
10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in 
Great Bend, with Father Don Bedore presiding. Interment will be in 
Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend.

Beula Mae “Boots” Haxton, 90, died at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott 
City, on April 22, 2021.&nbsp; She was born on Feb. 26, 1931, the youngest of
 eight children, to Ernest G. and Jennie (King) Walz, on the family farm
 southwest of Grinnell.

Her first three years of education were at Grinnell Grade School 
before her mother and the five youngest children moved to Oakley in 
1941. She graduated from Oakley High School in 1949.&nbsp; Upon graduation, 
Beula began working for her brother, Floyd, at Walz Jewelry for two 
years and then became a teller at the Farmers State Bank in Oakley.

She married Don Haxton on Sept. 6, 1953. He died on April 29, 2010, in Scott City.

Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to North Platte, 
Nebr., where Don worked for a commercial printing shop and Beula worked 
at a bank. During the next seven years, their three children were born 
in&nbsp; North Platte - Rodney (1955), David (1957), and Joni (1958).&nbsp; 
Following a year in Eaton, Colo., the couple purchased their first 
newspaper, The Glasco Sun, in May of 1962.&nbsp; They were also part owners 
of the Hugoton Hermes for a year.&nbsp; They were in between newspapers for 
another year, living at Norton and Alma, Nebr., before purchasing the 
Kiowa County Signal in Greensburg in 1970. They purchased The Kinsley 
Mercury in 1974.&nbsp; The couple semi-retired to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1984 
when they sold The Mercury. Two years later they sold The Signal.&nbsp; The 
couple moved to Scott City in 2007.

Beula was an avid golfer, she loved to sew and she enjoyed dancing and big band music.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and 
their husbands, Ida and John Suter, Betty and Duane Gibson, and Della 
and Don Lamb; four brothers, Ernie and Icie Walz, Floyd and Leah Walz, 
Eddie and Marguerite Walz, and Christ Walz; two grandsons, Tyler and 
Ryan Haxton; and a son-in-law, Randy Pottberg.

She is survived by her three children, Rod Haxton and his wife, 
Kathy, Scott City, David Haxton and his wife, Sherri, McPherson, and 
Joni Pottberg and Myles Veeder, Dodge City; four grandchildren, Jade and
 Troy Gilpin, Fredrick, Colo., Heather Haxton, McPherson, Jaci and Dusty
 Brake, Salina, and Dustin Pottberg, Dodge City; two step-grandchildren,
 Tony Jasnoch, Kearney, Nebr., and Melissa Jasnoch, Scott City; two of 
her favorite nieces, Edith Clark and Janet Collins, both of Oakley; a 
sister-in-law, Marjorie Jeambey, Lincoln, Nebr.; and numerous other 
nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.

The funeral service will be held Fri., April 30, 2:00 p.m., at Price 
and Sons Funeral Home, Scott City.&nbsp; Services will be streamed live on

Beula Mae 'Boots' Haxton

Alberta L. Bennett, 63, of Osborne, KS, passed away on Sunday, April 
25, 2021 at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital. &nbsp;She was born on 
February 19, 1958 in Wichita, KS to Albert Beeson and Pearl Stair.

Alberta graduated from high school. &nbsp;She lived the majority of her 
life in Osborne, KS. &nbsp;Alberta was a homemaker, but she also worked as a 
cook at local restaurants and as a CNA at Parkview Care Center. &nbsp;

One of Alberta's favorite pass times was&nbsp;playing bingo.

Alberta married John Roenne, Sr. and to this union, 3 children were born. &nbsp;They divorced and she later married Steve Bennett.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Steve Bennett in March of 2020 and a son James Roenne in November, 1979.

Alberta is survived by sons, John (Ashleigh) Roenne, Jr. and Robbie 
(Heather) Roenne, both of Osborne, KS, 9 grandchildren and 5 
great-grandchildren.

Alberta Louise (Beeson) Bennett

Scott Paul Stegman, 56, died Sunday, April 25, 2021 at his home in 
Holcomb, Kansas. He was born December 17, 1964 in Garden City, Kansas 
the son of Julius &amp; Alice (Frick) Stegman. 
 Scott grew up in Holcomb where he graduated from Holcomb High 
School in 1983. He then attended and graduated from Garden City 
Community College in 1985. On August 10, 1985, he married Lisa Jalayne 
Roth in Garden City, Kansas. They moved to Wichita, Kansas where Scott 
attended and graduated from Kansas Neuman College in 1988. He worked 
for one year as an electrical engineer at Boeing, having the opportunity
 to work on Air Force One. Scott then decided to pursue a career in 
education. He worked for ten years as a physical education teacher at 
Griffith Elementary and South Hillside Elementary in Wichita. In 1999, 
Scott and his family moved back to Holcomb. He has worked for USD 363 
as a high school computer teacher and later as an elementary computer 
teacher at Wiley Elementary and Holcomb Elementary. Having a love of 
sports, Scott has also served as the Holcomb Middle School basketball 
coach, Holcomb High School Assistant and head basketball coach, the 
Girls high school golf coach in which his team placed first in state in 
2011, Assistant high school baseball coach, and assistant boys golf 
coach. 
 Scott was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City; 
the Knights of Columbus, the Kansas Coach’s Association, and volunteered
 his time serving Meals On Wheels. He hobbies include sports, coaching,
 playing cards, camping, BBQ, golfing, and loved to spend time with his 
family especially his granddaughter. 
 Survivors include his wife Lisa Stegman of the home; three children
 Matthew &amp; wife Jessica Stegman of Holcomb, Kansas, Amy &amp; 
husband Jace Larsen of Durham, Maine; and Brandon Stegman of Manhattan, 
Kansas; a granddaughter Carlee Stegman; three brothers Allen Stegman of 
Holcomb, Kansas; Greg Stegman of Wellington Florida, and Mike &amp; wife
 Jody Stegman of Scott City, Kansas; a sister Diane Florio of Newton, 
New Jersey; his mother-in-law LaVaughn Roth of Holcomb, Kansas; four 
brothers-in-law Jeff &amp; wife Julie Roth, Rich &amp; wife Karen Roth,

Scott Paul Stegman

James Edward Trumbo, 81, was born August 4, 1939, in Chula, Missouri, the third child to Maurice A. and Lucile (Sandy) Trumbo.
 James graduated from Boulder High School in 1958. He worked for the 
Bureau of Reclamation as an Engineer Lab Technician Investigation for 
dams in California and Norton, KS. In 1968 he graduated with a BS Degree
 in Accounting from Walla Walla University in Washington. He earned a 
CPA Certificate in 1972. He worked in Oregon, California, Kansas, 
Nebraska, Colorado, and New Mexico.
 James was a certified instructor in Disaster Preparedness. He was an
 amateur radio operator from 1972 until 2007. He worked for Nelson 
Farms, Inc. of Long Island, KS for sixteen years until his retirement in
 2005 due to health concerns. 
 James was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, lastly of Norton, KS. He was an elder and treasurer from 1968-2017.
 James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, of fifty-four 
years, Joyce (Whitney) Trumbo; sister, Marcia Babbit; brother-in-law, 
Egon Boettcher.
 James is survived by his three sons; Timothy (Tema) Trumbo of Saint 
Francis, KS, Richard (Kerrie) Trumbo of Callaway, NE and Steven Trumbo 
of Salina, KS; sister, Arlene Boettcher of Tennessee; sister-in-law, 
Beth (Whitney) Lee of Norton, KS; ten grandchildren and two great 
grandchildren.

 amateur radio operator from 1972 until 2007. He worked for Nelson 
Farms, Inc. of Long Island, KS for sixteen years until his retirement in
 2005 due to health concerns. 
 James was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, lastly of Norton, KS. He was an elder and treasurer from 1968-2017.
 James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, of fifty-four 
years, Joyce (Whitney) Trumbo; sister, Marcia Babbit; brother-in-law, 
Egon Boettcher.
 James is survived by his three sons; Timothy (Tema) Trumbo of Saint 
Francis, KS, Richard (Kerrie) Trumbo of Callaway, NE and Steven Trumbo 
of Salina, KS; sister, Arlene Boettcher of Tennessee; sister-in-law, 
Beth (Whitney) Lee of Norton, KS; ten grandchildren and two great 
grandchildren.

Barbara "Sue" Campbell, 83, passed away on November 16th, 2020. Her 
death was due to complications from COVID-19, however, she was not alone
 and in the comfort of her Hoisington, KS home.

On November 3rd, 1937, Sue was born to Walter ‘Shelby’ Hawkins and 
Letha Mae (Fisher) Hawkins in Maud, OK. She was an alumna of Hoisington 
High School, class of 1955. She married a dashing young Marine, Orville 
Richard “Dick” Campbell (1934-2008), on May 3rd, 1959 in Hoisington, KS.
 They had three wonderful, strong, and stubborn children: Russ, Rana and
 Robert. Professionally, she was a business owner of “Le Shop” hair 
salon and went on to be a proud employee of ElderCare, Inc. in Great 
Bend, KS where she retired after 18 years. Sue was an active member at 
the First United Methodist Church and was involved with American Legion 
Auxiliary, Post #286. Sue volunteered with Boy Scout Troop #130, and was
 a leader of Explorer post #013.

Very few things were more important to her than God, family, and the 
people she surrounded herself with. She was firm and soft in all the 
ways a mother should be. She was a strong constant for all of the people
 who were a part of her beautiful life. She celebrated life in many 
“little” ways: ice cream and popcorn for dinner on Sundays, posting 
daily Bible verses, and tending to her flowers (real AND virtual). Sue 
was all but quiet in the kind of love and support she would give. She 
never forgot a birthday and strove to be there for important events. Sue
 found comfort in truth and never valued herself above others.

She is survived by one son, Robert Campbell; one daughter, Rana 
Campbell (Richard Lynn); a daughter-in-law, Holly Campbell-Heinze (Ron 
Heinze); four grandchildren: Shiree Houf (Donnie Houf), Shelby Lynn, Ian
 Lynn (Michelle Castillo), Courtney Campbell (Marcus Allen); and two 
great grandchildren, Arabell &amp; Emerson Houf. Sue was preceded in 
death by her parents; husband; son, Russell Campbell; her brother, Bill 
Hawkins; and devoted dog, Jack.

Memorial Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 1st, 2021, at
 First United Methodist Church, Hoisington. Inurnment will follow in 
Hoisington Cemetery.

Barbara 'Sue' Campbell

Dorothy Mae (Stefan) Geschwentner, age 76, of Quinter, Kansas, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Salina Regional Health Center. She was born June 25, 1944, to Michael and Isabel (Scheck) Stefan in Hoxie, Kansas.&nbsp;

Dorothy graduated from Trego Community High School, and on February 10, 1964, she was united in marriage to Joseph Geschwentner at Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney, Kansas, and They were married for 55 years until his passing in January of 2020. Dorothy worked in housekeeping at Gove County Medical Center for over 23 years, as well as taking care of her home and family. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, crafting, embroidery, camping, and taking good care of her great-granddaughter. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society and enjoyed serving her community.

Dorothy is survived by her&nbsp;son Dale Geschwentner of Hoxie, Kansas; daughter Kathy (Joe) Flora of Baldwin City, Kansas; grandchildren Ben (Jennifer) Flora of Georgetown, Texas, Ashley (Trevor) Mader of Gardner, Kansas, and Allie Heier of Quinter; great-grandchildren Avery Flora, Harper Heier, Weston Mader, Grace Flora, and Landon Mader; brothers Delbert (Mary) Stefan of Cimmaron, Kansas, Darrell Stefan of WaKeeney, Kansas, and Duane (Linda) Stefan of Hays, Kansas; sisters Delinda (Dale) Collmann of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Donna Stefan of WaKeeney.

Those preceding Dorothy in death include both parents; her beloved husband; and siblings Donald Stefan, Diane Coffman, Darlene Tidball, Delores Herskowitz, and Dorene Miller.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Following visitation, a vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM, with a rosary to follow, all to be held at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM, on Friday, April 30, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park, Kansas. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.

Jeffrey 'Jeff' Lawrence Brock

Mac passed away at his home in Congress, AZ succumbing to the cancer 
that he had fought so well for the last few years. &nbsp;He died shortly 
after a recent visit from his sister, Linda McJunkin Cloutier and her 
husband, Dean. &nbsp;They left him&nbsp;under the good care of Hospice and cyclist
 friend's Don and Beth &nbsp;Huston.

Mac approached his death the way he did everything; "trying to get 
his head around it," staying as fit as possible and not worrying too 
much about the details; he always was more interested in the big 
picture. &nbsp;In the end, he stayed on his bike as long as possible, he said
 farewell to as many as possible and kept up the good fight as bravely 
as possible.

Mac was born in Dallas, Texas, immediately adopted by Lloyd and Lena 
(Bryson) McJunkin (both deceased) and raised in the countryside of Tipp 
City, OH and then &nbsp;Mt. Clemens, MI along with his adopted younger 
sister, Linda. &nbsp;Throughout their lives, Mac and Linda would have a 
loving and close relationship. &nbsp;It seemed that from the beginning Mac 
was destined for a life of challenge and &nbsp;adventure. &nbsp;At age two, he 
climbed out his bedroom window one evening and was found climbing a 
statue on the town green before he was brought home.

After attending Port Huron J.C. and employment at GM in Detroit, Mac 
was drafted and served in the US Army 101st Airborne Division. &nbsp;He was 
deployed to Vietnam where he was wounded in action; then needing a blood
 transfusion, he acquired Hepatitis C from tainted blood. &nbsp;This was the 
genesis of his demise that would be over 50 years later. &nbsp;He eventually 
was treated at Walter Reed Hospital and discharged honorably with a 
Purple Heart.

Mac would go on to live an amazing life as a premier athlete, avid 
reader and deep thinker. &nbsp;Although he was married for a short time, he 
lived life largely as a single man with companions, friends and his 
small family providing the meaningful relationships in his life. &nbsp;He 
lived in California for many years and owned a mountaineering shop, 
"Mountain Affair", in Laguna Beach. &nbsp;During this time his interest in 
cycling began. &nbsp;Years later, he lived with his companion, Bernice in 
Bluffton, SC. &nbsp;While there he owned a bike shop, he would eventually 
call "Road Fish" on Hilton Head Island, which remains to this day.

Mac loved God's creation and the great outdoors; he especially 
enjoyed rock/mountain climbing, hiking and cycling. &nbsp;He climbed El 
Capitan in Yosemite, rode in numerous, high level cycling events, even 
winning some! &nbsp;He rode in "Ride the Rockies", across Georgia, South 
Carolina, Oregon and events in Mexico and California, while other men 
his age, would be resting in easy chairs. &nbsp;Until recently he was hiking 
up desert peaks in Arizona and riding his bike 60 miles a day.

Mac leaves behind his loving sister, Linda and her husband Dean, some
 distant family and a host of saddened friends. &nbsp;He loved to post his 
thoughts and articles of interest on Face Book and kept in touch with a 
wide and eclectic group of people. &nbsp;Mac was unique and in his own way 
touched the lives of many. His interest in others, a love of learning 
and sharing that knowledge was Mac at his very best. &nbsp;We will all miss 
him and though he wanted to reach out to many more of his friends, his 
strength failed and he accepted the end with peace and dignity.

Lloyd 'Mac' McJunkin

Judi Jean Swagerty, age 68, of Great Bend, Kan. died Wednesday, Dec. 
9, 2020, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
 She was born July 30, 1952 in Salina, Kan. She married Steve Swagerty 
on Dec. 28, 2001 in Great Bend, Kan.

She was a Case Worker at Sunflower Diversified Services in Great 
Bend, Kan. for over 20 years and also worked at Walgreens in Great Bend,
 Kan. before retiring in 2020. Throughout her life she was devoted to 
helping others and was a frequent volunteer at church working with 
children and adults doing whatever was needed to be the hands and feet 
of Jesus. Her faith was her foundation and she gave tirelessly of 
herself, always with a smile on her face. She was a kind, generous, 
loving, and joy-filled person whose absence will be felt for a long 
time. Judi grew up in Salina, Kan. where she attended school and 
graduated with a degree in Education. She moved to Great Bend, Kan. 
where she was a resident of the area for over 30 years. Judi was a 
member of First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend, Kan.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Swagerty, Great Bend, Kan.; one 
sister, Jane Oakley and husband, Jim of Eureka, Kan.; one brother, 
Jeffrey Rees and wife, Janet of Iowa; two children, Jennifer Harris of 
Topeka, Kan. and William Harris of Lawrence, Kan.; four step-children, 
Melissa Lloyd and husband, Bill of San Antonio, Texas, Megan Reed, and 
husband, Dan of Centerville, Ohio, Chris Swagerty and girlfriend, Sara 
Perreault of Great Bend, Kan., and Maranda Miner, and husband, John of 
Niceville, Fla.; grandchildren, Claire van Wyhe, and husband Matthew, 
Zachary Dunavan, Halle Short, Joshua Lloyd, Jackson Reed, Grace Reed,

Judi Jean Swagerty

Roger Lee Archer, 76, of Almena, passed away April 23, 2021 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Dec. 1, 1944 in Almena to LeRoy and Elnora (Jackson) Archer.

Roger grew up in Almena and was a 1962 graduate of Almena High School. He served for the U. S. Army during Vietnam. Roger married Joyce Fowler on Dec. 3, 1965 in Newport News, Va. and to that union they had three children.

He worked for over 20 years for Ideal Truck Line in Norton as the terminal manager and safety director until the company closed. After that he began working for New Age as the transportation manager until he retired after working for over 20 years.

Roger was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America, and Veterans of Vietnam War. He was involved in his community through the Senior Center in Almena, where he was serving as the president.

Roger enjoyed taking his 1955 Chevy to car shows, and collecting clocks, watches, and coins. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Roger grew up in Almena and was a 1962 graduate of Almena High School. He served for the U. S. Army during Vietnam. Roger married Joyce Fowler on Dec. 3, 1965 in Newport News, Va. and to that union they had three children.He worked for over 20 years for Ideal Truck Line in Norton as the terminal manager and safety director until the company closed. After that he began working for New Age as the transportation manager until he retired after working for over 20 years.Roger was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America, and Veterans of Vietnam War. He was involved in his community through the Senior Center in Almena, where he was serving as the president.Roger enjoyed taking his 1955 Chevy to car shows, and collecting clocks, watches, and coins. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. Karen Weber, 82, of Victoria died Monday, April 26, 2021, at her home.

She was born April 5, 1939, in Holyoke, Colo., to Daniel F. and Katherine Amanda (Eagon) Ellis. She married Herman V. “Verlee” Weber on May 7, 1960, in Ellis. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2005.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was a homemaker and was a sales clerk at Brungardt’s IGA Store in Victoria for over 20 years. She also worked at Kenny Brungardt’s Liquor Store and Frank Brungardt’s Liquor Store, both in Victoria.&nbsp; Karen enjoyed cooking, crocheting, bingo, flower gardening, horses and her dogs.&nbsp;

Edward W. “Ed” Walker, 72, Logan, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021, at his home.

Ed was born May 19, 1948, in rural Rooks County, Kansas, the son of Mildred L. (Spargo) Walker and her significant other, Lee Wildrix.&nbsp; He was a resident for 25+ years of Logan, Kansas, moving from Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; He worked as a driver many years for Marlette Homes, Great Bend, Kansas, and Schult Homes, Plainville, Kansas.&nbsp; He also drove for Superior Mobile Home Moving, Hill City, Kansas, Wellex, Williston, North Dakota, and Koch Industries, Wichita, Kansas.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He loved to fish, hunt, and play golf.&nbsp; He also was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors include:&nbsp; two sisters, Linda Groff (James), Stockton, Kansas, and Patty Eggers, Sterling, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David A. Walker;&nbsp; and one sister, Bonnie Thompson.

Cremation has been chosen.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Nicholas Todd Palen, age 57, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021,
 at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on 
January 27, 1964, in Scott City, Kansas, the son of Delbert Sam &amp; 
Margaret June Appel Palen.&nbsp; 

Todd graduated from Scott Community High 
School in 1982. After high school, he moved to Colorado and became a 
Licensed Master Electrician. &nbsp;He became reacquainted and then married 
Toni Sue Burgess Palen on September 28th, 1991. &nbsp;In December of 2010, 
they moved their family closer to home, to Marienthal, Kansas. Todd was 
the owner and operator of Western Kansas Electric and the Bluebird Bar 
both in Marienthal, Kansas.

He was a member of the Baptist &amp; Catholic faiths.

Survivors include his Wife - Toni Palen of Marienthal, Kansas, One 
Daughter - Kalli &amp; Jakob Stegman of Holcomb, Kansas, Father - 
Delbert Sam Palen of Belize, Central America, Two Sisters - Kristi Daily
 of Elbert, Colorado, Kerri &amp; Curt Sides of Scott City, Kansas,

Arleda Mae Short peacefully entered in the rest Jesus has promised those who love him on April 15, 2021. Arleda was born to Harry Edward and Mildred (Patton) Short on February 26, 1948, in Goodland, Kansas. She was 73 years old.&nbsp;

She was raised and went to school in Goodland, including the Vo-Tech school. Arleda also attended Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, OK for several semesters.&nbsp;

Arleda enjoyed crocheting doilies and won Reserve Champion at the county fair for one of her creations. She also enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls and collectible glassware, including Disney and Warner Bros. Though she never married or had children of her own, Arleda had so much love to give. She worked for many years with Junior High aged girls, teaching Sunday School, working as a sponsor on youth trips and camp, offering guidance, and love to her “girls." She kept in contact with many of them through the years. She also enjoyed singing in the choir at church, attending Denver First Church of the Nazarene during her years in Denver, and recently attended Goodland United Methodist Church. Arleda enjoyed an active social life meeting with friends for coffee and conversation on Friday mornings.

Throughout her career as an administrative assistant, she worked at Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Martin Marietta, CBI, Denver First Church of the Nazarene, and many jobs through a temp service.&nbsp;

Arleda was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Ray Walkins, twin sister Verneda Short, half-sister Marjory Long, half-brother Darold Short, and her aunts and uncles except Raymond Patton, who followed her shortly after.

She is survived by sister, Susan Short, brother, Harold Short (Jocelyn), stepsister, Dorothy Beckner (Bob), six nieces, two nephews and many cousins. Arleda is also survived by her family “adopted by love,” daughter Karina Plecker, granddaughter Letha Hougland (James), and grandsons Thaddeus Plecker (Mackenzie), Timothy Plecker, Kevin Plecker, and Izaak Plecker, and all her other “girls." She will be missed by all.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at 10:30 AM MT at the United Methodist Church in Goodland with Pastor Zach Anderson officiating.

Judith 'Judi' (Benoit) Charbonneau

Memorial services for Phyllis Marie Guthrie Tiffany, 88, Lawrence will
 be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 26, 2021 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary
 in Lawrence. She died Monday, April 19, 2021 in Lawrence.

Phyllis
 was born the second of two children in Little River, KS on July 17, 
1932 to Oliver Preston and Clara (Crandall) Guthrie. After high school, 
she earned her bachelor’s degree from KU before spending several years 
in New York City.

Returning to Kansas, she earned her Masters of 
Psychology from KU. While doing so, she married Donald Wayne Tiffany in 
1961. Donald was a fellow student at KU, whom she met as a checkout 
attendant in the KU Union cafeteria when he made a point of coming 
through her line because he liked her smile.

In 1970 she joined 
the faculty of Fort Hays State University’s Psychology Department. While
 at Fort Hays, she also earned her PhD from Kansas State University. She
 became a tenured professor at Fort Hays and retired a Professor 
Emeritus.

With her husband, she co-authored a number of books on 
psychology and related topics. One of her hobbies was collecting 
antiques, and she briefly had her own store in the mid ‘70s.

Retiring
 to Lawrence with her husband in 1990, she was active in the Lawrence 
Rotary and Leadership Lawrence. Phyllis long enjoyed her dogs and was 
fond of Jayhawks Basketball, the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. True to 
her interest in history, she supported the community as a Docent at the 
Watkins museum.

She leaves behind her son, Allen (Adeliza) Tiffany
 and daughter, Karen (Jeff) Dean, her nephews Preston (Diana) Guthrie 
and Patrick Guthrie, and six grandchildren: Natasha and Nikita Tiffany, 
Madelyn Dean, Andrew Dean, and Elinor and Cassandra Tiffany. All of her 
grandchildren spent many days playing with their grandparents in their 
home in Lawrence and enjoying Grandmother’s waffles and their 
grandparent’s stories. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald 
Wayne Tiffany, and her brother, Ira Guthrie.

 and daughter, Karen (Jeff) Dean, her nephews Preston (Diana) Guthrie 
and Patrick Guthrie, and six grandchildren: Natasha and Nikita Tiffany, 
Madelyn Dean, Andrew Dean, and Elinor and Cassandra Tiffany. All of her 
grandchildren spent many days playing with their grandparents in their 
home in Lawrence and enjoying Grandmother’s waffles and their 
grandparent’s stories. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald

Phyllis Marie Guthrie Tiffany

Doris May Keeton, age 82, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021, at 
the St. Francis hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Doris was born on December 
13, 1938, in Knox County, Missouri to Leslie and Thelma Elder Hutton. 
Doris was a homemaker. She was a resident of Leoti, Kansas since moving 
from Ness City, Kansas in 1985.

Doris was a member of the Lydia United Methodist Church in Lydia, Kansas.

On June 7, 1959, Doris married Glenn C. Keeton in Manning, Kansas. He survives.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Randy &amp; Marqueta Keeton 
of Leoti, Kansas and Ronnie &amp; Carolyn Keeton of Bucklin, Kansas, One

Jeffrey Alan Bernbeck, 67, a lifetime Gove, Kansas resident died Friday 
April 23, 2021 at the Lane County Hospital in Dighton, Kansas after a 
long battle with cancer. Jeff was born May 6, 1953 in Quinter, Kansas 
to Dale and Avis (Cavanaugh) Bernbeck. He was the 8th of 10 siblings 
that grew up on the family farm in Gove County, along the Smoky Hill 
River. 
Jeff attended Sunnyside Country Schoolhouse and Quinter High School 
before working on farms both locally and in Wyoming. He married his 
loving wife Denise on June 24, 1977, in Ness City, Kansas. He took over 
the family farm to raise his four children; and also ran his own 
trucking business up until 2007, when he “retired" to raise cattle. 
He was well known for his storytelling and jokes, his love of being 
outdoors hunting, fishing, riding a horse or his motorcycle. He could 
solve any problem with some ingenuity and stubbornness. 
Jeff will fondly be remembered by his wife of 43 years_ Denise and his 
four children- Michelle Bernbeck of Allen, Texas; Andrew Bernbeck of 
Pasadena, California; Alan Bernbeck of Benton, Kansas and Amy (Joey) 
Parnell of Wichita, Kansas, five grandchildren- Alex, Lily, Aurora, 
Delilah, and Elena, eight siblings- Phyllis (Russ) Walls of Milwaukee, 
Oregon, Jerry (Judy) Bernbeck of Utica, Kansas, Judy (Harold) Baesler 
of Hillsboro, Oregon, Donna (Bob) Karl of Bend, Oregon, Ted (Marie) 
Bernbeck of Ransom, Kansas, Brenda (Mert) Perry of West Pointe,

Joan Etta Bosley, age 67, of Topeka, KS and a former resident of 
Dighton, KS, died Saturday morning, March 28, 2020 at Aldersgate Village
 Nursing Home in Topeka, after a long illness. 
A native of Dighton, Joan was born on February 3, 1953 to Charles and 
Mary Alice (Durr) Bosley at St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City, 
Kansas. She attended Dighton Grade School and Community High School of 
Lane County, graduating in 1971. She attended school at the University 
of Kansas, Bethany College, University of Northern Colorado, and Wichita
 State University. She studied primarily art, but also took courses that
 led her to become a licensed practical nurse. Much of her professional 
work was on a contract basis, which included working at Via Christi 
Hospital in Wichita. 
Throughout her life, Joan expressed her artistic talents through her 
originally-designed needlepoints, macrame, watercolor and oil paintings.
 Many family members have samples of her work. Her art was also 
displayed at Creations of Hope Gallery in Topeka, and at Aldersgate 
Village. She simply adored her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews
 and always made a point to send them cards or gifts on their birthdays. 
She is predeceased by her parents and sister, Susan Ellin (Bosley) 
Osborne. Survivors include her brother, Dennis (Audrey) of Topeka, and 
her sister, Barbara Jones (Stan) of Lawrence, KS; nieces Heather 
(Osborne) Loftus (Josh) of Spring, TX; Lindsay (Osborne) Stauss (Brian),
 Scottsdale, AZ; Malinda (Osborne) Larkin (Will), Elk Grove Village, IL;
 nephews Carl Bosley, New York City; and Cory Bosley (Anna), Valley 
Park, MO. Joan also had seven great-nieces and one great-nephew.

On July 12, 1953, she married Wilfred Glenn Jacka and settled in 
Scott City, Kansas. He passed away on July 21, 2017, in Oakley, Kansas.

Survivors include one son: William Keith Jacka,&nbsp; Truth or 
Consequences, NM, two daughters; Marquita Rae Jacka, Wichita, Ks, and 
Joni Lyn Brack, Pratt, Ks. Jessie had 6 grandchildren: Jason Eric Brack,
 Joshua Ryan Jacka, Bylle Michele Stasi, Melissa Marie Jacka, Hannah 
Leah Thimesch, and Kyndrah Rae Jacka and 6 great-grandchildren: Joseph 
Antone Brack, Baylee Brenee Brack, Max Edward Thimesch, Jones Alexander 
Jacka, Jamison Isaiah Jacka, and Sage McKenzie Dale. She also had 2 
step-grandchildren: Kristyl Jolene Tinney, Jared Frank Tinney, and 2 
step great-grandchlildren&nbsp; Ernest Keith Spitzer and Kellan Wade Spitzer.

Jessie was preceded in death by three sons: Robert Theodore Brown, 
Tracy Paul Jacka, and Glenn Wayne Jacka.&nbsp; Also, Jessie’s parents, three 
brothers: Ralph Athey Jr, Robert Theodore Brown, Aubrey Castleman Brown,
 and four sisters: Pauline Horlick, Katherine Roehl, Bessie Helzer, and 
Norabell McClure.

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2021, at the Beeler Cemetery in Beeler, Kansas.

David Dean Brack, 59, passed away April 23, 2021, at Hays Medical 
Center, Hays.&nbsp; He was born October 21, 1961, to J. Dean "Butch" and 
Palmera "Paule" Lydia (Keil) Brack.

David, a life time resident of Great Bend, had a love and passion for
 racing cars and motorcycles.&nbsp; He was a mechanic and enjoyed hunting and
 spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include, a daughter, Steele Dawn Brack; two step sons, Tee 
Jay Janousek (Megan) of Hays, and Cayton Janousek (Megan) of Geneva 
Neb.; and sister, Dorinda Brack (Steve Wissman) of Albert.&nbsp; He was 
preceded in death by his parents.

Alice Jean Killian

Edna Isabella (Deines) Mai, 99, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Homestead Assisted Living in Russell.

Edna was born on November 21, 1921, on the family farm.&nbsp; She was one of five children born to Ferdinand and Amalia “Mollie” (Mai) Deines.&nbsp; She grew up on the farm south of Russell near the Smokey River.&nbsp; She attended country schools, achieved her GED and had college credits in Accounting.

Edna was united in marriage to Edward Mai on Feb. 16, 1941, in Russell.&nbsp; During WWII, Edna lived with his and her parents until Edward returned home and then in 1946, they moved to the farm.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children: Gerald, Robert, Linda and Marilyn.&nbsp; Edward preceded her in death on February 6, 1984.&nbsp;

Edna was a devoted farmer’s wife and homemaker. Her cooking skills were unequaled. Her strong work ethic and positive attitude made her the lady so many loved and respected. Her life was guided by her unwavering faith and positive attitude.&nbsp; She was active in St. John Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church Women, Altar Guild and the Quilters group.&nbsp; She made hundreds of quilts throughout her life, making her last one at the age of 97.&nbsp; She was past President of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the F.C.E., the Garden Club of Russell, and the Russell County Saddle Club. &nbsp;

Edna’s surviving family includes her son, Gerald Mai (Mary) of Russell, Kansas; daughters, Linda Dunekack (Larry) of Pittsburg, Kansas and Marilyn Haffner (Doug) of Shattuck, Oklahoma; sister, Rosetta King of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward; son Robert Mai; brother Palmer Deines; sisters, Delma Dumler and Estella Boxberger; and infant grandson, Timothy Gerald Mai.

Celebration of Edna’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday, April 26, 2021 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp;

 </figure>Edna Isabella (Deines) Mai, 99, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Homestead Assisted Living in Russell.Edna was born on November 21, 1921, on the family farm.&nbsp; She was one of five children born to Ferdinand and Amalia “Mollie” (Mai) Deines.&nbsp; She grew up on the farm south of Russell near the Smokey River.&nbsp; She attended country schools, achieved her GED and had college credits in Accounting.Edna was united in marriage to Edward Mai on Feb. 16, 1941, in Russell.&nbsp; During WWII, Edna lived with his and her parents until Edward returned home and then in 1946, they moved to the farm.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children: Gerald, Robert, Linda and Marilyn.&nbsp; Edward preceded her in death on February 6, 1984.&nbsp;Edna was a devoted farmer’s wife and homemaker. Her cooking skills were unequaled. Her strong work ethic and positive attitude made her the lady so many loved and respected. Her life was guided by her unwavering faith and positive attitude.&nbsp; She was active in St. John Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church Women, Altar Guild and the Quilters group.&nbsp; She made hundreds of quilts throughout her life, making her last one at the age of 97.&nbsp; She was past President of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the F.C.E., the Garden Club of Russell, and the Russell County Saddle Club. &nbsp;Edna’s surviving family includes her son, Gerald Mai (Mary) of Russell, Kansas; daughters, Linda Dunekack (Larry) of Pittsburg, Kansas and Marilyn Haffner (Doug) of Shattuck, Oklahoma; sister, Rosetta King of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward; son Robert Mai; brother Palmer Deines; sisters, Delma Dumler and Estella Boxberger; and infant grandson, Timothy Gerald Mai.Celebration of Edna’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday, April 26, 2021 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; Memorials have been established with St. John Lutheran Church or Homestead Assisted Living.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
