Phillipsburg resident Larry Kenney passed away August 27, 2021, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg at the age of 68.

Survivors include three sons: Andy &amp; Ozzy of Phillipsburg, Adam of Norton; his daughter, Amie Epley of Phillipsburg; 4 brothers: Jack Boller of Plainville, Dale Kenney of WaKeeney, Bruce Boller of Lamar, Colorado, &amp; Gary Kenney of Odessa, Texas, &amp; 10 grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the First Christian Church with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating.

Jackie Miles Warren left this world at Redbud Village in Plainville, KS 
on September 3, 2021, at the age of 85. He was born on January 17, 1936,
 to Miles A. Warren and Ruth M. (McCauley) Warren at the Warren Family 
Farm in Northern Ellis County, KS, with “Dr. Pete” AC Petterson 
assisting.
 Jackie spent his life living in homes, with Redbud Village (Rooks 
County nursing home) for 50 years. In his early years, Jackie helped 
clean sidewalks and rake leaves. He enjoyed sitting by the windows 
watching cars and trucks and waiting for the trash trucks. He also 
watched the shed door to see if the keys were left in. He always knew if
 the help had a different vehicle or drove someone else since he loved 
to watch the cars. Jackie was always telling Ron Brin to come down and 
mow the grass. Ron was a former maintenance man at the home and Jackie 
thought the world of him.
 Jackie leaves to mourn his sister Pat Wendling; nieces Melanie 
Wendling-Staab and Cassidy Pywell; his only aunt, Shirley Newell; and 
brother-in-law Leroy Boucher; step-brother Wendell Ouderkirk; and many 
nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends at the care center.
 He is preceded in death by his parents Miles and Ruth; sisters Helen
 Keller and Jeanne Boucher; grandparents Ben and Tessie McCauley and 
John and Kate Warren; brothers-in-law Ed Keller and Gayhard Wendling.
 A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at
 2:00 PM at Mt. Allen Cemetery in Hays, KS. Visitation will be held on 
Tuesday 2:00-8:00 PM with the family receiving friends 6:00 PM until the
 prayer vigil at 7:00 PM at the funeral home in Plainville.

moving from Scott City, Kansas, she was Manager of Functional 
Initiatives for ADT Security Systems.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas.

Tara N. Buehler

Lawrence "Larry" R. Norton was born April 4, 1936, to Edward and Goldie (Blackwill) Norton on a farm south of Quinter, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in Hays Kansas. He was 85.

He graduated from Park High School in 1954.&nbsp; He was a U.S. Veteran and served in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; On August 8, 1959, Larry married Bernita Waldman at St. Michael Catholic Church in Collyer, Kansas. They later divorced.

Larry spent most of his life farming with his parents, raised livestock and worked for various feed and seed companies.&nbsp; He also had two home based businesses of hoof trimming for horses and show cattle and the Norton Auction Service. Larry enjoyed traveling, watching and attending rodeos.&nbsp; He was an avid sports fan of the KC Chiefs, Royals, KU basketball and K-state football and basketball. Larry especially loved following his grandchildren’s sporting events through the years.&nbsp; His most treasured time was spent celebrating holidays and special events with family and friends.

Survivors include his five daughters, Christy Gillogly and husband Tim of Hays, Kansas, Carrie Barr and husband Frank of Hutchinson, Kansas, Kelly Shuagis and husband Steve of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, Karla Simons and husband Russ of Wichita, Kansas and Cody Kandt and husband Larry of Morganville, Kansas.&nbsp; His sisters, Marcella Rohleder and husband Frank of Thorton, Colorado, Louella Sullivan of Lakewood, Colorado, Armella Wetig and husband Jim of Russell, Kansas and Verdella Lewis and husband Leon of Wichita, Kansas, brother-in-law, Bill Campbell of Ridgeville, Ohio.&nbsp; He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Chelsey (Aaron) Ladd, Kylea Gillogly of Hays, Kansas, Kacey (Paul) Bowen, of Hendersonville Tennessee, Colin (Megan) Barr of Mission, Kansas, Ethan Shuagis, Jaxon Shuagis of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, Kennedy (Luke) Rogers of Wichita, Kansas, Kerrigan (Dante) Texeira of Wichita Kansas, Braiton Gassmann (girlfriend Jesslyn) of Hutchinson, Kansas, Brogan Kandt, Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, Breckon Kandt of Salina, Kansas. In addition, Larry enjoyed four precious great grandchildren, Theodore Ladd, Audren Bowen, Simon and Penelope Rogers. Beverly Ann Atwood in Lebanon, KS, to this union they were blessed with 
three children, Kristy, Christopher and Everett. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother David. 
 Ike is survived by his wife Bev Mansholt of Lebanon; daughter, Kristy 
(Ryan) Stewart of Lebanon; two sons, Christopher Mansholt of Lebanon and
 Everett (Tiffany) Mansholt of Smith Center; two sisters, Virginia 
(Mick) Mickelson of Longmont, CO, Barbara (Keith) Wineinger of Cawker 
City; and five grandchildren, Courtney, Lynsey and Rylee Stewart and 
Ryker and Reed Mansholt. Funeral services will be held at 
10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at All Faiths Funeral Chapel,

Ivan J. 'Ike' Mansholt

Clorice Ann (Cooley) Blank, 93, of Natoma, Kansas, died on Saturday, September 04, 2021, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas

Clorice was born March 3, 1928, on the family farm in rural Mount Ayr, Kansas, to Rollin and Beulah (Boultinghouse) Cooley where she was the third of eight children. 

Clorice attended primary grades at Country School and secondary school at Alton High before attending Fort Hays State University to become a teacher. She taught school for three years until she married Theodore Emil Blank on May 23, 1948. They resided in Natoma, Kansas, where they raised three children: Twin boys--Jerry, Larry and fourteen years later a daughter, Kalynn. 

Clorice was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, Peace Lutheran Guild, Natoma Legion Auxiliary, VFW, Natoma Heritage Seekers, and she enjoyed making quilts for Lutheran World Relief and foster children with SRS. She also volunteered at the Natoma Community Center and Natoma Library. 

She was a homemaker and stay-at home mom, but also later worked at Boyd’s Variety Store; custodian for church; and enjoyed babysitting. Loved to play solitaire and word puzzles such as crosswords and word search as well as listen to audio books.

She is survived by her sons Jerry and wife Karen of Smith Center, KS; Larry and wife Ruth of McCook, NE; daughter Kalynn Blum and husband Ron, Wichita, KS; sister Sybil Hale of Loves Park, IL; sister-in-law Rhonda Cooley of Ft. Collins, CO; five grandchildren: Tonya Krueger (Mike), Tyler Blank (Emily), Jennifer Nyp (Giro de Simone), Wendy Eisenmenger (Mike) Megan Phillips (Jason); 12 great-grandchildren Britney and Hunter Krueger, TyLynn, Kensly and Aadyn Blank, Lola and Luca de Simone, Ethan and Corbin Eisenmenger and Landon Blank, Tayton and Owen Phillips.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Theodore on July 2, 1988, brothers Darold, Lee, Noel, Roy, and Mart Cooley and also a sister, Ruth Macha.

A celebration of Clorice’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Natoma, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.Thursday morning at the church. 

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Peace Lutheran Church or Lutheran Hour-KRSL and sent in care of the mortuary. 

Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell and Natoma, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Alma M. Frick, 91, passed away September 4, 2021, at Via Christi St. Francis Campus, in Wichita.

Alma was born January 16, 1930, in Larned, the daughter of Albert and

On December, 5, 1951, she married Raymond G. Frick at Raton, New Mexico. He passed away on February 7, 1999.

&nbsp;Survivors include: a son, Kent (Karen) Frick, Larned; one daughter 
Kim (Terry) Fairchild, Overland Park, Ks. two sisters, Katherine George,
 Larned, Pauline (Norman) Herrmann, Kinsley; four grandchildren, Dr. 
Christina Frick (Brent Maxwell), their children, Grayson, Kole and 
Addison Maxwell, Larned, Melissa (Matt) Brossard, their children, Harley
 and Carter Brossard, Topeka, Kurtis (Holly) Frick, their children, 
Chayse, Kaden and Paisley Frick, Larned, and Audra (Dustin) Geiger,

Doris A. “Mitzi” Krause, 81, Hays, died Saturday, September 4, 2021, at HaysMed.

She was born May 10, 1940, in Sweet Springs, Missouri, the daughter of William and Ella (Hartman) Steinkuehler.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Sweet Springs High School in the class of 1958.&nbsp; On February 6, 1960, Mitzi was united in marriage to Earl Krause in Emma, Missouri, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage.&nbsp; She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and actively involved with funeral dinners, altar care, donation drives, and was in charge of the women’s group.&nbsp; She was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, the Hays Medical Center Auxiliary and Hays Medical Center Blood Screenings.&nbsp; Mitzi enjoyed her cats, laughing, sharing her sense of humor with others, and making chili for family, friends, and organizations.

Survivors include her husband Earl of Hays, son: Brett Krause and wife Robin of Parkville, MO, two sisters: Carol Barclay of Overland Park and Betty Forbes of Concordia, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter: Carla Krause, sister: Violet Highbarger, and nephew: Brent Barclay.

John Paul Riener

Frank
 Herrman, 75, Salina, was born October 26, 1945 in Goodland, Kansas to 
Frank and Lena Herrman. Frank passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 
near Colby.&nbsp; He was the third of six children. He graduated from 
Goodland High School and received a BA from Kansas State and an MA in 
special education from Fort Hays State. He also graduated from Cleveland
 Chiropractic College and spent four years serving in the Air Force 
Intelligence Branch during the Vietnam War.

He
 met Alice Wagner, his sister’s roommate at The University of Kansas, in
 1969 after he got out of the service. They fell in love and got married
 in 1973. The couple celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary August 
the 2nd of this year.&nbsp;

Frank
 spent nine years working for the Union Pacific Railroad before going 
back to school and getting his masters in education. He was a beloved 
teacher at St. Francis for over twenty years.

In
 his younger days, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking. He also loved
 nothing more than a rousing game of Trivia Pursuit, which he almost 
always won. As he got older he became very involved in the YMCA 
community and loved working out and visiting with his friends over a cup
 of coffee. Frank had a special gift for remembering people’s names as 
well as making them feel welcome and important. He was very proud of his
 two daughters, Heather Herrman and Jessica Herrman-Derrick. He was an 
avid follower and supporter of their athletic and professional 
endeavors. He will be greatly missed by all of those who were fortunate 
enough to have had him as a part of their lives. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

He
 was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lena Herrman, a 
brother, Ronald Herrman; a niece, Cindy Clark; and a brother-in-law 
Archie Wicke. He is survived by his wife, Alice Herrman, his two 
daughters, Jessica (John) Herrman-Derrick of Gadsden, AL, and Heather 
(Parker Staley) Herrman, of Santa Fe, NM, as well as his two grandsons, 
Albert and Charles Staley, whom he loved to wake up early with on visits
 and spoil with special treats. He is also survived by his sisters, 
Patty Wicke of Goodland, KS; Mary Lou (Louis) Haller of Denver, CO; 
Sharon (John) Hartman of Clifton, KS; and Linda (Curtis) Miller of 
Salina, KS; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived 
by brothers and sisters-in-laws and their children on Alice’s side.

Memorial
 services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 10 at the Bennington 
Bible Church, Bennington.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Bennington Cemetery.&nbsp;

Stanley D. Dirks, age 64, passed away at his home in Scott County, 
Kansas on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.&nbsp; He was born on July 7, 1957, in
 Scott City, Kansas, the son of Albert &amp; Donna Speer Dirks Jr.&nbsp; A 
lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, Stanley was an assistant 
manager for different feedlots and grain elevators over the years.

He was a member of the Gold Prospectors, EAA, and Trappers Inc and was a US Navy Veteran.

Survivors include his Two Sons - Dwayne Dirks of Leonard, Texas, Josh
 Dirks of Scott City, Kansas, and One Daughter - Lisa Birney of 
Burlington, Kansas, Eleven Grandchildren, and Four Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Grandparents &amp; Parents.

Donald "Don" Arthur Jensen, 86, passed away at his home on Thursday September 2, 2021, in Larned.

He was born February 25, 1935, in Kinsley, the son of Arthur W. and Catherine (Werner) Jensen.

A lifetime area resident, Don was a carpenter by trade, worked for 
the City of Larned as a city inspector and at Sacred Heart Catholic 
Church as a maintenance man.&nbsp; With respect to Larned Kansas, he was a 
lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, he enjoyed fishing, 
hunting, and golf.&nbsp; Camping was a mainstay in his life especially while 
the children were young.&nbsp; He taught his kids to fish, hunt, and camp.&nbsp; 
Don was the biggest fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit 
Tigers, however when the Royals played the Tigers he always cheered for 
the Royals. Don served in the United States Navy and was stationed in 
Germany.&nbsp; While on leave in Demark he met his wife of sixty-one years, 
Grethe Rostgaard Petersen.&nbsp;&nbsp; On March 22, 1960, they married in Winnipeg,
 Canada.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Don was a father and mentor to many. &nbsp;His nephew stated the wonderful
 sentiments Uncle Don was “a simple, unconditionally loving, kind, 
funny, supportive and much loved human.&nbsp; Words do no justice as to what 
role he played in my life……I will forever miss him”.&nbsp;&nbsp; We all have so 
many wonderful memories that make us laugh, cry and genuinely happy.&nbsp; 
Every one of us can tell a Papa Don story, we know he is smiling down on
 us with that twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes.&nbsp;&nbsp; As stated by Don’s 
daughter Heidi Donaho “Don was the best daddy a girl could have”.&nbsp; Erik 
and Damian Jensen remember the wonderful memories of hunting and fishing
 growing up. &nbsp;Don and Grethe’s daughter Elvi, from Denmark writes: “Et 
hjerte af guld er holdt op med at slå, to flittige hænder er gået i 
stå“(A heart of gold has stopped beating, two diligent hands have come 
to a standstill).&nbsp; Yes, we will all forever miss him.&nbsp;

Don was preceded in death by his parents Kate and Arthur Jensen.

Don is survived by his wife Grethe Jensen, their children, Damian 
(Lori) Jensen, Wichita, Heidi Donaho, Larned, Erik Jensen, Larned, Elvi 
Engelsman, Denmark; sister, Helen Helm, Golden, Colorado; eight 
grandchildren: Logan Jensen, Tera Eling, Trista Donaho, Taylan Donaho, 
Brianne Jensen, Christian Jensen, Jonathan Chacon, and Enya Chacon. 
&nbsp;Eleven great-grandchildren: Lylee, Callie, Taydyn, Tavyn, Tony, Gloria 
Rose, Octavia, Khaleesi, Diesel, Zoey, and William.

Visitation will be held at Beckwith Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 
p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021 with a rosary at Beckwith Mortuary 
beginning at 7:00 p.m.&nbsp; Memorial mass will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, 
September, 8, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father 
Bernard Felix presiding. &nbsp;Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery with 
military graveside rites.

On Friday, September 3, 2021, Mark Edward Krehbiel, age 71, ended his 
three-year battle with metastatic melanoma at Gove County Medical 
Center, Quinter. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 AM 
Tuesday, September 7th, at Bible Fellowship Church in Dighton, Kansas; 
visitation with family present will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, 
September 6th at the Church. The service will be Facebook live on the 
Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. 
Mark was born July 12, 1950, in Scott City, Kansas, to Orville and Elnor
 (Hinderliter) Krehbiel. He graduated from Dighton High School in 1968, 
and attended college at Kansas State University, where he studied 
accounting, worked as an R.A. in Haymaker, and was a yell-leader for the
 Wildcats. On a blind date in early-1971, Mark met Kit Kahler (a Logan, 
KS, graduate) in Hays, KS, which led to a whirlwind romance culminating 
in their marriage on December 26, 1971. A few years later their union 
was blessed with the birth of a son, and later a daughter. Mark was a 
devoted husband and father; his family always came first. 
Throughout his life, Mark loved living in smaller communities, and he 
enjoyed different roles while living in Dighton as a member of the city 
council, a USD 482 school board member, and a Lane County EMT. Mark also
 spent a great deal of time investing in church as both an elder and a 
Sunday School teacher. For almost 30 years Mark was a general contractor
 and loved building custom homes and various commercial projects in 
western Kansas. Additionally, he was a dryland farmer for about 15 of 
those years. Mark loved to cut wheat, and harvests were one of his 
favorite times of year. Another of the greatest blessings to his family 
are the years he spent working in both construction and farming with his
 children. No matter how much patience Mark was actually born with, 
working with his children day after day on many different jobs not only 
tested it, but allowed him many opportunities to practice it. Both 
Jeremie and Kelli treasure the times spent with him learning lessons 
about work and life. 
After his years building, farming and raising a family, and then to his 
retirement, Mark enjoyed 17 years as a successful insurance professional
 in Kansas, Colorado and Iowa. 
Mark was a teacher; maybe not in the traditional sense, but he took the 
time and energy, even in the hustle and bustle of life’s busyness, to 
teach those who worked with him how to work hard, be efficient, take 
pride in a job well done, and “work smarter, not harder.” He was also a 
firm believer in working hard and playing hard! He loved to water ski, 
scuba dive, fly fish, watch (and commentate) sporting events, and bird 
hunt with his dogs. Most will fondly remember that Mark had an 
infectious sense of humor! He loved to banter with others, play jokes on
 his friends and neighbors, and he genuinely loved to make people 
chuckle. Mark loved fun and took special care to pass that love of humor
 on to his children and grandchildren. Mark loved his family beyond 
measure. He wasn’t always a hugger, but he would go to the ends of the 
earth to show those he loved how much he cared for them through his 
actions and words. Of all things Mark was dedicated to, the most 
important component of his life was his relationship with Jesus Christ. 
Mark spent his life studying the Bible, praying, and sharing the love of
 Christ with those around him. His most important legacy will be that 
his family, and anyone who knew him, will know the gift of grace offered
 by Jesus through a personal relationship with Christ. 
Mark is survived by his wife, Kit, of the home; a son, Jeremie Krehbiel 
and wife Olivia of Kerrville, TX; a daughter, Kelli Getz and husband 
Levi of Quinter, KS; and five grandchildren, who affectionately referred
 to him as “Pop”: Emma and Jarrett Krehbiel and Kayler, Lakin and Kamry 
Getz. Surviving siblings include Judy (Ron) Musselwhite, Dighton, KS; 
Jim (Genelle) Krehbiel, Scott City, KS; Larry (Vicki) Krehbiel, Dighton,
 KS; Pamela Schnelle, Beatrice, NE; and Rick (Amy) Krehbiel, Greeley, 
CO. Mark will also be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, 
friends. 
Preceding Mark in death were his parents and a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and John Huber of Hays, KS.

Mark Edward Krehbiel

Michael Lynn “Mike” Pipkin, 73, was 
born February 26, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, and died Thursday, September
 2, 2021, at his home in Sharon Springs, Kansas.

Mike and his sister Jody were adopted 
by two wonderful parents, Robert and Mary (Pepperdine) Pipkin.&nbsp; Mike 
served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1971 where he repaired Huey and 
Chinook helicopters.&nbsp; He then served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 
1975-1976.&nbsp; Mike married Mary Carlson and together they had two sons, 
Robert and Ross.&nbsp; Later they divorced and Mike married Norma Reichert in
 1987.&nbsp; After Mike’s service in the military as a helicopter mechanic, 
he received a degree from Fort Hays State University in Psychology and 
worked in several Human Resource jobs.&nbsp; He spent 11 years with the City 
of Hays as the sexton of Mt. Allen Cemetery.&nbsp; Mike then spent the next 
24 years as the caretaker of the Reichert Farm.&nbsp; Recently, he was a 
substitute teacher in the LaCrosse School District and also Wallace 
County Schools.&nbsp; He was loved by all students and served as a big 
brother, mentor, and tutor to countless children as he embraced his true
 gift of piano and a lovely voice.&nbsp; His passions were music, 
motorcycles, and helping anyone in need.&nbsp; Mike loved his sons and could 
not wait to ride motorcycles, fish, attend Ross’s theater shows, or 
simply hang out with them.&nbsp; Mike’s everyday goal was to go to heaven and
 take as many people with him as possible.&nbsp; We know that God is playing 
him a song on heaven’s baby grand piano.

Survivors include his wife Norma of 
Sharon Springs, two sons:&nbsp; Rob (Edyta) Pipkin of Lakewood, CO and Ross 
Pipkin of Key West, FL, three grandchildren: Izabella, Alanna, and 
Thomas, and his sister: Jody Morris and husband John of Judsonia, AR.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on
 Friday, September 10, 2021, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hays, with 
Pastor Rocco Mallardi officiating.&nbsp; Burial with military honors by the 
Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard will follow in Our Lady Help of 
Christians Cemetery, Antonino.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 
8:00 on Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am

Michael Lynn 'Mike' Pipkin

Hilda Coronel, 54, passed away September 4, 2021, at her home in 
Great Bend.&nbsp; She was born September 28, 1966, to Adolfo and Ernestina 
(Uribe) Coronel.

Hilda, a resident of Great Bend since 2010 coming from Salinas, 
Calif., worked for Kleen Smart.&nbsp; She was a member of Prince of Peace 
Parish at St. Rose Lima Catholic Church.&nbsp; Hilda was an amazing cook and 
enjoyed flower gardening, but above all, she cherished weekend shopping 
trips with her children.

Survivors include her mother Ernestina Coronel of Mexico; children, 
Erik Solorzano and Edith Solorzano both of the home; five brothers Mario
 Coronel, Horacio Coronel, Juvenal Coronel, Albertano Coronel, Alberto 
Coronel all of Salinas, Calif.; and two sisters, Lourdes Vargas of 
Salinas, Calif., and Mayra Kurtz of Great Bend.&nbsp; She was preceded in 
death by her father, Adolfo Coronel; and brother, Adolfo Coronel.

Hilda Coronel

Mary Evelyn (Ihloff) Watson was born July 19, 1920, in Greensburg, Ks.&nbsp; 
She was the daughter of Charles Belmont Ihloff and Helen May Cobb 
Ihloff.&nbsp; Mary was three years old when the family moved to Jetmore where
 her dad bought the Ford Dealership.

She was involved in many school activities and Girl Scouts as she 
grew up.&nbsp; Upon graduation from high school, Mary went to Kansas 
University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and 
Science with the class of 1943.&nbsp; She then moved to Junction City, Kansas
 where she was a Social Worker.

In 1948, she and Major Henry (Luke) P. Watson were married at Fort 
Riley Chapel in Fort Riley, Kansas.&nbsp; Mary followed her husband to many 
Army Airbases around the world.&nbsp; They were fluent in Spanish and 
French.&nbsp; They were both accomplished artists and visited every Art 
Museum and library possible.&nbsp; Having no children, their lives together 
were focused on each other and their extended families.&nbsp; They loved us 
well.

They eventually bought a beautiful home in Summerville, South 
Carolina.&nbsp; After Luke’s passing, Mary moved to Dodge City, Kansas where 
she could be close enough to take care of her aging mother.&nbsp; In 2007, 
Mary moved to Bramley Place in Jetmore to be closer to Carolyn and 
family as she aged.&nbsp; On Feb. 19, 2018, Mary went to live in the Long 
Term Care in Jetmore.&nbsp; She remained there until her passing on Sept. 4, 
2021 at the amazing age of 101!

Mary had the wonderful gift of being so interested in and loving the 
people around her.&nbsp; So even though her contemporaries are gone, she left
 behind family and friends that will always remember her and smile.

Survivors include: niece, Carolyn (Joe) Tarman, Jetmore; nephew, 
Charlie W. Ihloff, Dodge City; seven great nieces and nephews; 
twenty-three great great nieces and nephews and a long time friend, 
Sherri Merica.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Howard W. Ihloff; 
nephew, Timothy W. Ihloff and a great nephew, Joshua Lynn Tarman.

Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 10, 
2021 at Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8
 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore.

Mary Evelyn (Ihloff) Watson

George James Rice, 73, died September 3, 2021, at Research Medical 
Center, Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp; He was born April 10, 1948, the son of 
Kenneth and Martha (Wittig) Rice. George was a 1966 graduate of 
Hoisington High School.&nbsp; He then attended Fort Hays State College and 
Kansas University.

A lifetime Hoisington resident, George was an oil field operator and 
owner of the Rice Production Company.&nbsp; He was a member of Concordia 
Lutheran Church where he served on the church council.&nbsp; He was involved 
in his community, serving on city council and was mayor for several 
years and a member of the Jaycees.&nbsp; George also enjoyed coaching his 
children’s little league and basketball teams.

On April 8, 1978 he married Jane L. Vink at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane Rice of the home; 
daughter, Tonya Deal and husband Jeff of Hutchinson; son, Adam Rice and 
wife Kelly of Lenexa; brothers, Richard Rice of Dripping Springs, Texas,
 John Rice of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jerry Rice of Greenwood, Arkansas, and 
Ben Rice of Great Bend; a sister, Martha DeHaven of Cresson, Texas; 
brother-in-law, Rich Vink and wife Norma of Topeka; sisters-in-law, 
Marilyn Fairchild and Brenda Wilson both of Topeka, and Kim Loring and 
husband Eric of Prior Lake, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Piper and 
Hudson Deal, and Kase, Finley, and Madden Rice; and two step 
grandchildren, Anna &amp; Evann Deal.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth Rice and a sister Ruth Dailey.

Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday and 1-8 p.m. Monday with family to
 receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. A Prayer service will begin at
 7 p.m. Monday, all at the funeral home.

George James Rice

Milan Anthony Berry, age 66, died on 
Friday, September 3, 2021, at his home in Garden City, Kansas following a
 long illness with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Disease.&nbsp; He was born on 
December 15, 1954, in Oakley, Kansas, the son of Victor LeRoy and Maxine
 Keller Berry.&nbsp; He attended elementary school in Page City, Kansas and 
graduated in 1972 from Triplains High School in Winona, Kansas.&nbsp; Milan 
attended Fort Hays, Kansas State College before returning home where he 
worked for his uncle, Vernon Berry, building terraces, did farm work for
 Leon Stoppel, and also worked in construction for Colby Steel.

On Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1980, Milan married Deanna Ward 
Berry in Winona, Kansas.&nbsp; To this union were born three sons, Clayton 
Ward in 1982, Brandon Cyler in 1984 and Cade Nolind in 1988.

Milan worked as a parts man and mechanic for Ward Equipment in Winona
 before opening his own business, Brewster Auto Parts, in 1984.&nbsp; At that
 time, Milan and Deanna moved to Brewster, Kansas, where he ran the 
parts store and engaged in custom farming.&nbsp; He served as a Brewster city
 councilman and mayor, and was a volunteer firefighter and EMT in both 
Brewster and Winona.&nbsp; In 1991 Milan sold the business and took up 
full-time farming and ranching, moving back to Winona.&nbsp; In 1993, he and 
his family moved to Leoti, Kansas, while Milan continued farming in 
Logan County.&nbsp; Milan sold his cattle in 2001 when the family moved to 
Garden City, Kansas.&nbsp; He commuted and continued farming until his health
 no longer allowed.

Milan had a lifelong love of firearms, gunsmithing and reloading, 
spending many hours studying and working on his own and others’ guns of 
all kinds.&nbsp; He had a deep knowledge and enjoyed talking with his friends
 about the subject.

Milan was also a very good cook, making the best potatoes and gravy around, and flipping many a breakfast pancakes for his boys.

Despite his imposing physical presence, Milan was gentle, unassuming 
man; a steadfast and supportive husband, hands on father, and loving 
grandfather.&nbsp; He treasured his time alone and with family, and deeply 
loved the land he farmed and ranched.

Preceding him in death were his father, Victor Berry; son, Brandon 
Cyler Berry; father-in-law, Charles “Bud” Ward; niece Mariah Soderland; 
niece, Reata Pinkerton.&nbsp; Survivors include his wife Deanna; mother, T. 
Maxine Berry; brother, Mark (Milodred) Berry; sons, Clayton (Maegan) and
 Cade Berry; Grandchildren, Sadie, Jax, Jessa, and Hadley Berry; 
mother-in-law, Naomi Ward; brother-in-law, Nolind Ward; sister-in-law, 
Charlotte Baalman; nieces and nephews, Charlie Ward, Lacey Ward, Sge 
Ward and Zane Ward; Callie Guajardo, Caleb Baalman and Bethany Baalman; 
and many cousins, family and friends.

Cremation was chosen and there will be no calling hours.

Winona Untied Methodist Church at 10:30 am.&nbsp; Interment will be held at 
the Winona cemetery immediately following.

Mildred C. Pavlicek, was born October 7, 1940, in Oberlin, Kansas. He 
shared his birthday with granddaughter, Rowan Grace. He attended the 
public schools of Decatur County and was a graduate of Decatur County 
High School in 1958 and Fort Hays State University in 1962, where he was
 a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
 He was united in Holy Matrimony to Roxanne R. (Ridgway) Pavlicek on 
November 25, 1962, for 45+ years until she preceded him in death on 
April 18, 2008.
 Robert was a proud, active member, and contributor of several 
organizations encompassing conservatism, humanitarian efforts, 
education, and his love of his Czech ancestry and heritage. He spent 6 
years in the Army National Guard.
 As a result of his generous spirit and desire to give a helping hand
 rather than a handout, he helped many in his neighborhood, community 
and beyond. His influence will forever remain in the lives of all who 
knew him well.
 He departed this life Sunday, August 29, 2021, at his son’s home in 
Collierville, Tennessee. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, 
Suzanne Rae Pavlicek (stillborn).
 Robert’s distinctive life will forever be cherished in the lives of 
his 2 children: son, Ryan Wayne (Dena) Pavlicek, their 3 children, 
Suzanne Renae (7), Barrett Ramsay (6), and Joseph Robert (1) of 
Collierville, Tennessee; daughter, Robyn Renee (Robert) Stolarick, their

JoAnn Marie (Dinkel) Miller, age 82, of Hays, Kansas died Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas.&nbsp;

She was born December 10, 1938, in rural Graham county Kansas to Henry and Josephine (Gerstner) Dinkel.&nbsp; She married Donald J. “Donnie” Miller on January 9, 1960, in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on March 21, 2012.

She owned and operated The Children’s Exchange clothing store in the 1980s and 1990s for over 10 years.&nbsp; She enjoyed making crafts and selling her items at many craft fairs.&nbsp; JoAnn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays and a former member of the altar society.&nbsp; She enjoyed reading sewing, gardening and going to the casinos.

Survivors include her son, Scott Miller and wife, Brianne, Lawrence, KS; two brothers, Leroy Dinkel, Morland, KS; Danny Dinkel, Bismarck, ND; two sisters, Rose Zerr, Quinter, KS; Arlene Fickel, Gunnison, CO; and three sisters-in-law, Eunice Ann Dinkel, Garden City, KS; Patricia Schmidtberger, Victoria, KS; and Wanda, Miller, Hays, KS.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 4, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 215 W. 13th Street, Hays, Kansas with celebrant Father Rich Daise.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp;

JoAnn Marie (Dinkel) Miller

Marilyn Ann Swoboda Traffas, born June 30th, 1942 passed away 
peacefully at 8:23 am on 8/24/2021&nbsp; with her family close and her 
daughter by her side.&nbsp;&nbsp; She graduated from St. Francis Borgia High 
School in 1960; attended Mount St. Scholastica College receiving her 
degree in education in 1964.&nbsp; She began her teaching career at Union 
High School.&nbsp; She married James V. Traffas of Wichita, KS.&nbsp; She moved to
 Hays, Kansas and had her first child Greg; The family then moved to 
Howe, Indiana, where she had her next 3 children, Christine, Mark, and 
Michael.&nbsp; She taught grade school at Holy Angels in Sturgis, Michigan.&nbsp; 
In 1976, the family moved back to Washington, MO; Marilyn started 
teaching at her alma mater, St. Francis Borgia High School.&nbsp;

Marilyn became a single mother of 4 after making the most difficult 
decision of her life.&nbsp; But her family flourished under her love and 
strength.&nbsp; All of her children graduated college - 3 of them in college 
at the same time she was achieving her Master’s Degree.&nbsp;

Marilyn loved education, she believed in the power of learning and 
instilled in those around her, that you could achieve anything if you 
believed in yourself. &nbsp;She spent several years teaching at St. Francis 
Borgia Regional High School. &nbsp;After getting her Master’s degree, she 
became Principal at St. Gertrude’s Grade School.&nbsp; Eventually she 
returned to St. Francis Borgia Regional High School. She served the 
Borgia community in so many ways and was the first laywoman President.&nbsp; 
She developed many programs to foster the continued mission of Catholic 
Education, focused on inclusion, diversity and tolerance.

Marilyn lived life to the fullest.&nbsp; She traveled through Europe with 
the high school kids; she went to the tallest peak in Hawaii, Haleakala,
 to watch the sunrise, she hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
She would hop in her car, plug in GPS and go!&nbsp; Visiting her dear friends
 in Michigan or her sister in Kentucky, or wherever the GPS took her.&nbsp; 
She loved to explore and see new places.&nbsp; She could cook anything, sew 
like a master seamstress and could not kill a plant if she tried.&nbsp;

After retiring, she was a volunteer extraordinaire with her Parish 
and in the Washington community from Harvest Tables, working at Encore, 
and volunteering at the Hospital.&nbsp; But her most proud and important 
role, was Grandma and Great Grandma.&nbsp; Children always had a special 
place in her heart- any no one would make her happier then to be around 
her 8 grandkids and 4 great grandkids.&nbsp;

As a lifelong educator, Marilyn’s final wish was that her body was 
donated to St. Louis University-so others could continue to learn from 
her.&nbsp;

&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents Jerome Swoboda and Arlene 
(Habeberger) Swoboda, her husband, James Traffas, her brother Warren 
Swoboda and her sister Lynn Cook.&nbsp; She is survived by her siblings Jane 
and Morris Newton, John and Monica Swoboda and Roger Cook, &nbsp;children 
Greg and Lyndsay Traffas, Christine (Traffas) and Kevin Snedden, Mark 
and Camila Traffas and Michael Traffas;&nbsp; her grandchildren Amanda and 
Matt Skornia, Emma Duncan, Megan Snedden, Brooklyn Grafrath, Ian 
Traffas, Hunter Grafrath, Skylar Traffas, Andrew Traffas,&nbsp; 
Great-grandchildren Noah Skornia, Abe Skornia, Stella Duncan and Silas

 </figure>Marilyn Ann Swoboda Traffas, born June 30th, 1942 passed away 
peacefully at 8:23 am on 8/24/2021&nbsp; with her family close and her 
daughter by her side.&nbsp;&nbsp; She graduated from St. Francis Borgia High 
School in 1960; attended Mount St. Scholastica College receiving her 
degree in education in 1964.&nbsp; She began her teaching career at Union 
High School.&nbsp; She married James V. Traffas of Wichita, KS.&nbsp; She moved to
 Hays, Kansas and had her first child Greg; The family then moved to 
Howe, Indiana, where she had her next 3 children, Christine, Mark, and 
Michael.&nbsp; She taught grade school at Holy Angels in Sturgis, Michigan.&nbsp; 
In 1976, the family moved back to Washington, MO; Marilyn started 
teaching at her alma mater, St. Francis Borgia High School.&nbsp;Marilyn became a single mother of 4 after making the most difficult 
decision of her life.&nbsp; But her family flourished under her love and 
strength.&nbsp; All of her children graduated college - 3 of them in college 
at the same time she was achieving her Master’s Degree.&nbsp;Marilyn loved education, she believed in the power of learning and 
instilled in those around her, that you could achieve anything if you 
believed in yourself. &nbsp;She spent several years teaching at St. Francis 
Borgia Regional High School. &nbsp;After getting her Master’s degree, she 
became Principal at St. Gertrude’s Grade School.&nbsp; Eventually she 
returned to St. Francis Borgia Regional High School. She served the 
Borgia community in so many ways and was the first laywoman President.&nbsp; 
She developed many programs to foster the continued mission of Catholic 
Education, focused on inclusion, diversity and tolerance.Marilyn lived life to the fullest.&nbsp; She traveled through Europe with 
the high school kids; she went to the tallest peak in Hawaii, Haleakala,
 to watch the sunrise, she hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
She would hop in her car, plug in GPS and go!&nbsp; Visiting her dear friends
 in Michigan or her sister in Kentucky, or wherever the GPS took her.&nbsp; 
She loved to explore and see new places.&nbsp; She could cook anything, sew 
like a master seamstress and could not kill a plant if she tried.&nbsp;After retiring, she was a volunteer extraordinaire with her Parish 
and in the Washington community from Harvest Tables, working at Encore, 
and volunteering at the Hospital.&nbsp; But her most proud and important 
role, was Grandma and Great Grandma.&nbsp; Children always had a special 
place in her heart- any no one would make her happier then to be around 
her 8 grandkids and 4 great grandkids.&nbsp;As a lifelong educator, Marilyn’s final wish was that her body was 
donated to St. Louis University-so others could continue to learn from 
her.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents Jerome Swoboda and Arlene 
(Habeberger) Swoboda, her husband, James Traffas, her brother Warren 
Swoboda and her sister Lynn Cook.&nbsp; She is survived by her siblings Jane 
and Morris Newton, John and Monica Swoboda and Roger Cook, &nbsp;children 
Greg and Lyndsay Traffas, Christine (Traffas) and Kevin Snedden, Mark 
and Camila Traffas and Michael Traffas;&nbsp; her grandchildren Amanda and 
Matt Skornia, Emma Duncan, Megan Snedden, Brooklyn Grafrath, Ian 
Traffas, Hunter Grafrath, Skylar Traffas, Andrew Traffas,&nbsp; 
Great-grandchildren Noah Skornia, Abe Skornia, Stella Duncan and Silas 
Duncan.&nbsp; She is also survived by her nieces, nephews and the thousands

Bruce Alan Petty, 77, of Stillwater, Okla., passed away on Saturday, August 21,
 2021. A graveside service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, 
September 11, 2021, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater. Due to COVID 
concerns, the family gratefully requests that attendees wear masks 
during the service. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of 
the arrangements. Bruce was born January 27, 1944, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Wava M. and 
Eldon R. Petty. He grew up in Hays, Kansas, where he met Bonnie Clair 
Brandenburg. They wed in 1966, and were happily married for 55 years. He
 taught high school art in Kansas prior to receiving a PhD. from Kansas 
State University. After serving on the faculty of the University of Kentucky College of 
Education in the 1970s (where he was named a Kentucky Colonel by the 
governor), he and his family moved to Stillwater in 1978 where he served
 as the Director of the Center for Educational Technology and Professor 
of Curriculum and Instructional Design for 28 years. He was inducted 
into the Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame in 2012. He loved a good round of golf with his friends, and played as often as 
he was able. He was also a big fan of OSU Cowboy football and the OSU 
Cowgirls basketball team. He enjoyed volunteering at the Habitat for 
Humanity ReStore, refinishing furniture, restoring antique radios, and 
helped to start the Stillwater Antique and Classic Car Club, with whom 
he restored a 1966 Mustang and a 1971 Cutlass convertible. He told great
 jokes, sang with the SUAVE performing group, and enjoyed reading 
science fiction. Mostly, though, he loved spending time with his family. He was a devoted
 husband and father, and never missed a chance to tell his two children 
how proud he was of them, and how happy he was with who they turned out 
to be. He supported Bonnie in her career and delighted in watching his 
family grow and succeed. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Lindhorst, who passed away in June 2021. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of Stillwater, his son Brian (Chris 
Leedy), of Atlanta, his grandson Samuel Leedy Alonzo, of Shelby, Ohio, 
and his son-in-law Richard Lindhorst, of Stillwater.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends to hug their families,
 tell a joke to a stranger in line at the grocery store, and make
