Lyla Carolyn (Noffsinger) Legg

Lyla Carolyn (Noffsinger) Legg was born July 31, 1930, to RuthAnn (Galley) & Lyle Clifford Noffsinger on the family farm southeast of Osborne.  She was the 6th of 7 children.  Lyla went to be with the Lord on October 22, 2021, at the age of 91.

Lyla attended grades 1 - 8 at Mount Hope School District #6 & graduated from Osborne High School with the class of 1948.  

Following graduation, she worked as a telephone operator for United Telephone Co.  On July 3, 1949, she married Merwin Dee Legg at the United Methodist Church Parsonage with a dinner & family gathering at her family's country home.  The couple made their home in & around Osborne.  To this union was born two children: Daniel Eugene & Beverly Ann.  As her children grew, Lyla returned to the work force at the Osborne County Treasurer's Office before becoming the secretary for the Osborne County Highway Department until her retirement.

Lyla was baptized at the Osborne Christian Church by Reverend Clarence Zimmerman.  Lyla was a deaconess, Sunday School teacher, & junior choir director there.  At the time of her passing she was part of the Free Methodist Church congregation.  

Lyla had been a leader in the Penn 4-H Club, a Brownie Scout leader, a member of the Be Better EHU, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary & a member of the Osborne County Saddle Club.  Her family's hobby was spending weekends showing horses over the state of Kansas.

The love of her life passed away May 5, 2000, from lung cancer.  Lyla continued to live on the south edge of Osborne where she enjoyed watching the wildlife roam the bottom brome field & even stroll through the yard.

Lyla is survived by her daughter Beverly & her son Dan & wife Jan; 4 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her brother Dr. Clifford Noffsinger & wife Dee; numerous nieces & nephews plus a host of friends.

Lyla was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth & Lyle Noffsinger; her siblings Clyde Noffsiner, Marjorie Jackson, Dorothy Detwiler, Wayne Noffsinger, & Marietta Goering; her grandparents.
