Charles Roger Anderson, 87, of Oakley, KS died Tuesday, February 15, 
2022, at his residence. He was born September 9, 1934, to Andrew and 
Helen Anderson, in Gove, KS, where he was raised with his three brothers
 and one sister. 

Chuck graduated from Gove High School in 1952 and spent
 two years at Fort Hays State University before being employed by the 
Kansas State Highway department as a surveyor in July of 1954. He helped
 construct the then new Interstate 70 which ran from the Colorado border
 to the Missouri border. He was drafted into the US Army in 1956 and 
served until his honorable discharge in 1962. He married Joyce Ostmeyer 
on April 7, 1959, in Oakley KS, where they resided in the house he built
 himself. Chuck, or Andy as he was often called, worked for KDOT for 42 
years, retiring as an engineer in 1996, never taking a sick day off work
 in 42 years. 
Chuck was the proud father of four children, Michael, David, Tracy, and 
Tina and three grandchildren, Kaiden, Ty, and Leyton. He farmed his 
fathers rented land on weekends and was an avid fisherman, hunter and 
golfer. He was a former member of Pheasants Forever, the Oakley Country 
Club and a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. 
Chuck was a doting family man who loved going to various Kansas lakes 
such as Cedar Bluff, Wilson, and Webster to fish, boat, ski and camp 
out. He was a self-taught mechanic and woodworker who could piddle with 
the best of them in his shop building many projects for family, friends 
and neighbors. 
Chuck loved his friends and never met a stranger. He enjoyed drinking 
coffee, playing cards and solving “all of life’s problems” along the 
way. He was best known for his story telling and his boisterous laugh 
that could be heard all across town. 
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bud and Ralph Anderson; sister Leona Woods and son Michael Anderson. 
He is survived by his wife Joyce, of the home in Oakley; son David and 
his wife Mary Ann, of Wheatridge, CO; daughters, Tracy and partner Jen, 
of Wichita, KS, and Tina Braesch and husband Eric, of Denver, CO; 
younger brother Richard and his wife Patti, of Colorado Springs 
Colorado; three grandsons, Kaiden, Ty and Leyton and several nieces and 
nephews. 
There will be a celebration of life on Thursday, February 17, at the 
Anderson residence in Oakley, KS. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, 
February 18, at 11:00 am, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, Oakley, with
 burial at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Oakley.

Greta Marie (Waggoner) Paxson, 86, Penokee, Kansas died Tuesday, 
February 15, 2022, at the Graham County Hospital, Hill City. She was 
born December 14, 1935, to Galen and Agnes (Hildebrand) Waggoner at the 
family farm home south of Morland, the second of three children. She had
 an older sister Anita, and a younger brother Tim.
 	Greta went to Shiloh School in rural Graham County, from first 
through eighth grade. After her dad’s first heart attack, when Greta was
 in seventh grade, she did chores and fed cattle before going to school.
 She attended high school in Hill City. When Greta was a freshman and 
Anita a senior, they roomed together during the school week. After 
Anita’s graduation, she stayed the next three years with Cora Trexler, a
 very sweet lady, who had just lost her husband.
 	 Greta loved music. She played the baritone saxophone and was a 
member of the Hill City High School Dinner Band. Her most memorable 
music experience was playing a concert for the Topeka Correctional 
Facility. That band received a one rating at the Kansas High School 
Music Contest. She always received ones for her state saxophone solos. 
 	 Greta began dating Bob Paxson their sophomore year. What a great 
time they had! Bob drove a 1941 blue Ford four-door car. When school was
 dismissed, Greta loaded up all her girlfriends and paraded through the 
streets in that ’41 Ford while Bob was at sports practices. After Friday
 night games, Bob always took her home, no matter how late his games 
lasted. In April of their senior year Bob gave her an engagement ring. 
She and Bob graduated from Hill City High School in May of 1953. Bob’s 
dad had told Bob he couldn’t get married until all the fall farm work 
was done. When it was completed, they were married October 31, 1953, in 
Penokee at the Methodist Church.
 	The couple rented a small, four room farmhouse with a half 
basement. Greta took a great deal of pride in keeping her house just so.
 They milked cows, raised chickens, and farmed some with his parents. 
Their first daughter, Laurie was born April 11, 1957, just after a huge 
blizzard which produced between 36 and 40 inches of snow. The farm was 
without electricity for 23 days. Water and heat were available, but 
there was no way to cook. They survived though, along with their new 
daughter and 300 baby chicks they kept in the house! Their second 
daughter, Audrey was born May 26, 1958. 
 	In August of 1963 Bob and Greta started building their dream home. 
Greta cooked and fed lunch to all the carpenters. They never missed 
taking a break in the afternoon to enjoy Greta’s pies or cinnamon rolls.
 The family moved into their new home November 22, 1963. They always 
remembered that date because it was the day President Kennedy was 
assassinated, a very happy day for them, but a sad day, too.
 	The family was complete with the birth of their third daughter, 
Roberta, December 4, 1969. From 1970 to 2000 Greta drove a school bus 
for Morland USD 280. She had many stories to tell through the years as 
she picked up three generations of school children. Her homemade banana 
bread was always a hit when she handed it out as an after-school snack 
while the children were heading home. Greta liked farming with her 
husband and could run almost every piece of equipment. She drove a 
tractor and truck with the best of them. Greta had many talents. She was
 an excellent seamstress and a great cook. Her theory was, “It’s always 
better to have lots of leftovers than not enough food.”
 	Greta enjoyed dancing. It was very important that all her 
grandchildren learned to dance. There were always dancing lessons in the
 kitchen, from the waltz to the “Boot Scootin’ Boogie”. She was a 
long-time member of the Helping Hands Club. Greta never missed an 
opportunity to play cards whether it was with neighbors, grandchildren, 
or friends. She also liked gambling in Topeka and Dodge City, and she 
was extremely lucky. She did share her winnings with Bob who was always 
around to help spend part of it.
 	You never had to second guess Greta. She always told it like it was
 and sometimes where to get off. She was Bob’s best friend and always a 
part of any decision making. 
 	Greta was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Audrey, 
her granddaughter Amber, and her brother Tim. Survivors left to cherish 
her memory include her husband Robert “Bob” Paxson of the home; her 
daughters Laurie Ketterl and husband Bernard of Eagle, Nebraska, and 
Roberta Oborny of Hays; her sister Anita Middleton of Hill City; 10 
grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
 	 “God bless you, Honey. Now you are home. May you rest in peace.”

Amy M. Barnes, 41, died Thursday, 
February 17, 2022, at HaysMed surrounded by her loving family after a 
courageous, three-year battle with cancer.

She was born January 15, 1981, in 
Beloit, Kansas, the oldest child of Dan and Cathy (Modrow) Davies.&nbsp; She 
graduated from Beloit High School in 1999 and attended Kansas State 
University and graduated from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; She was a 
patient accounts representative at HaysMed for almost 20 years.&nbsp; On May 
4, 2013, she was united in marriage to Dick Barnes at Our Lady, Help of 
Christians Catholic Church in Antonino.&nbsp; She was a member of Immaculate 
Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays, and enjoyed KU Basketball, and 
the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs.&nbsp; Her lovable personality was shared 
freely with her friends and family, especially her nieces and nephews, 
and she was affectionately called “Aunt Amy” by many.

Survivors include her husband Dick, of 
Hays, her parents: Dan and Cathy Davies, of Beloit, her father and 
mother-in-law: John and Mary Barnes of Hays, her brother: Donny Davies 
of McPherson, her sister: Stacey Lunsford and husband Brad, of Hesston, 
two brothers-in-law:&nbsp; Mark Barnes and fiancé Susan Nagel of Kansas City,
 and Clint Barnes and wife Abby of Hays, a sister-in-law:&nbsp; Danielle 
Barnes of Hays, two nephews:&nbsp; Coyce Lunsford and Benjamin Zeller, and

She was preceded in death by

Amy M. Barnes

Father James P. Grennan, 97, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, 
February 15, 2022, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Father Grennan was born on December 28, 1924, in Jewell County, 
Kansas, the son of William J. and Mary Agnes (Doyle) Grennan.&nbsp; He grew 
up in Jewell County north of Beloit, Kansas and also lived in Cloud 
County west of Jamestown, Kansas.&nbsp; He attended high school for 2 years 
at Jamestown High School before going to the seminary in St. Louis, 
Missouri.&nbsp; As a young man he worked summers custom cutting wheat 
harvests for his brothers John and Michael, traveling from Texas to 
Montana.&nbsp; &nbsp;

He was ordained on May 13, 1951, and that same year took his first 
assignment as parochial vicar at St. Michael Parish in Collyer, Kansas.&nbsp;
 He served as a priest for the Catholic Diocese in Salina, serving his 
entire priesthood in Kansas.&nbsp; He served in WaKeeney, Hill City, Delphos,
 Glasco, Mankato, Smith Center, Oakley, Manhattan and Plainville.&nbsp; He 
was assigned to St. Mary Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas from 1983 to
 1993 and later served in Stockton and Logan, Kansas.&nbsp; In 2001, he 
decided to retire and move back to Russell.&nbsp; Even though he had 
officially retired, his great passion was to serve the Lord and the 
church and he continued to serve by helping at the St. Mary Queen of 
Angels Catholic Church in Russell.&nbsp; His second great passion was 
fishing, and when he was not helping at church, you could always find 
him heading to the lake to fish with his friend’s Father Charlie Stier 
and Don Fisher.

Surviving family include his sister Polly Champlin of Mead, Colorado;
 sister in-law Theresa Grennan of Concordia, Kansas, and many nieces and 
nephews.&nbsp; He is also survived by his longtime caregiver and friend 
Patricia Staab of Russell, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers John, Frank, 
Tom, Mike and Bill Grennan; and sisters Sister Rose Grennan, Loretta 
Cady, Marie Stover, Margaret Daily and Kathleen William and an infant 
brother. A celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 11 A.M. on 
Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic 
Church in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic 
Cemetery in Russell.&nbsp; A vigil and rosary service will be held at 7 P.M. 
on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the church.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 1
 P.M. to 5 P.M. Wednesday, February 23rd at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler 
Mortuary in Russell. &nbsp;

Wilma “Pat” Ann Goebel, 93, passed away February 16, 2022, at Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center, Jetmore.

She was born June 7, 1928, in Dodge City, the daughter of Lawrence 
William and Francis Philomena Peschka Irsik.&nbsp; A lifetime area resident, 
she was a homemaker and known as the best cook ever!

She was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Altar 
Society in Jetmore, where she cleaned the rectory, did the laundry for 
the church and helped with funeral dinners.&nbsp; She enjoyed golfing and had
 a special love for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. &nbsp;

On August 2, 1951, she married Nicholas L. Goebel in Dodge City.&nbsp; He passed away December 15, 2021.

Survivors include: three sons, Kim (Sue) Goebel, Overland Park, Bill 
Goebel and Lynn (Cindy) Goebel, both of Jetmore; four daughters, Susan 
(Scot) McKibbin and Barb (Russ) Hunt, both of Jetmore, Jane (Jerry) 
Clarke, Ness City, Mary Steckline, Overland Park; sister, Mary Lorraine 
Gibbons, Cory, NC; brother, Larry Irsik, Wichita; sixteen grandchildren 
and twenty-seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Norbert, 
Stephen and Clarence Irsik; three sisters, Helen Gerber, Julia Shriwise,
 Elsie Vogel and a daughter-in-law, Susan M. Goebel.

William “Bill” C. Dooley, 85, passed away February 17, 2022, at Country Living of Larned.

He was born May 16, 1936, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the son of Carl Andrew and Esther Rose Miller Dooley.

A lifetime area resident, he was of the Christian faith. He was a 
teacher and served in the United States Army. He was a member of Phi 
Kappa Si Fraternity, Prairie Arts Unlimited, KNEA, and National 
Educators Association.

On June 20, 1961, he married Effie Kay Loyd in Marlin, Texas; she survives.

Other survivors include: son, Les (Sheila) Dooley, Larned; four 
daughters, Tammy (Joe) Rosenberg, St. John, Teresa (Maurice) Wahlbrink, 
Belton, Missouri, Carla (Rick) Lile, Larned, Trish Winberg, Belton, 
Missouri; sister, Katherine Dooley, Colorado Springs, Colorado; fifteen 
grandchildren, Devin, Zach, Terron, Josh, Austin, Jessica, Katie, Lyndi,
 Blake, Cory, Alex, Jonnie, Billie, Brianna, Cheyenne; and thirteen

He was 80 years old. Born July 13, 1941, in Sterling, Colorado. He passed away February 12,2022, at his home in Ellis, Kansas.

 Ervin married Judith (Sue) May Keeler February 3, 1963, in Bogue, Kansas, at Sue’s parents house. He dedicated his life to Jehovah in May 1974 in Russell, Kansas, in a horse trough on the same day his wife was baptized. Ervin and Sue had 4 children and 5 grandchildren 

He is preceded in death by his Son, Kevin Lee Keeler. Also, by both his Father and Mother: Willard &amp; Leta Keeler 

Survivors include: His wife, Sue Keeler. Daughters: Sheila and her husband Robert Arrington, and Lori and her husband Darren Wood. Son: Justin &amp; his wife Sarah Keeler Grandchildren: Ashley Keeler, Jared Keeler, Dalton Myers, Nathan Arrington, Brandon Arrington Ervin lived in Colorado with his parents. 

He moved a lot in his youth as his father worked on the railroad. He later vowed to never move his family around and to make sure his kids remained in the same school throughout their education. At one time, he lived in Damar, Kansas, as a youngster in a railroad boxcar with his parents. He also grew up in the Depot in Bogue, Kansas, where he graduated in Bogue. Ervin stayed at home until he married Sue, where they lived in Bogue. They started their family in Salina Kansas, moved to Glenville, Nebraska, and then back to Salina and then to Ellis in the late '60s. Ervin worked as a depot agent for many years, after the depots closed, he worked on the rails as a gandy dancer, maintaining the train track. Ervin took an early retirement in 1984 due to a job injury. Ervin &amp; Sue celebrated their 59th anniversary February 3,2022. 

We look forward to welcoming our dear father back in the resurrection as the Bible promises. “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out…” John 5:28,29

Ervin Lee Keeler

Thomas Patrick Murphy, 69, passed away on February 16, 2022, at home 
in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on July 31, 1952, to Patrick and 
Francis (Sooby) Murphy. He married Carol Lindholm in Great Bend, Kansas 
in 1984.

Thomas was a lifetime resident of Great Bend. He served in the Army 
as a leader of the K-9 core during the Vietnam War. The conflict ended 
prior to his deployment. He worked for 32 years as a critical care and 
ER nurse, which he loved. Thomas also was a spiritual person, being 
adopted into the Ioway Tribe and building Native American sweat lodges, 
as well as being a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed 
camping and spending time with his loved ones.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Josh Murphy of 
Manhattan, Kansas; and one sister, Margaret Dipman of Lawrence, Kansas. 
He is preceded in death by his parents.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A private 
family service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022. Memorials 
can be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Golden Belt Humane 
Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Earl William Bartholomew, 38, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 
2022, at Baylor, Scott and White Medical Center in College Station, 
Texas.

Earl was born on September 9, 1983, in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of 
Lane T. Bartholomew, and Mary F. (Babb) Bartholomew.&nbsp; He was raised in 
Dodge City. &nbsp;After an early graduation from Dodge City High School in 
December of 2001, Earl enlisted into the Army on January 15, 2002.&nbsp; 
After being stationed in Vicenza, Italy with the 173rd 
Airborne, he was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with 
duty in Iraq from March 2003 to February 2004, and finished out his 
service at Fort Polk, Louisiana in January 2006. &nbsp;Earl went on to 
graduate with a dual degree from Texas State University in San Marcos, 
Texas in August 2010, after which he joined the College Station Police 
Department.&nbsp; Upon graduating from the TEEX Police Academy, he served in 
the Patrol and Criminal Investigation Division.&nbsp; He would later serve as
 a reserve deputy for the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, while 
working towards obtaining his realtors license.&nbsp; In January 2018, Earl 
joined the team he called “family” at the Lester Realtor Group of 
College Station, Texas where he continued to serve his community until 
his death.

Earl is survived by his father, Lane T. Bartholomew and mother, Mary F.&nbsp; (Babb) Bartholomew of Dodge City.&nbsp; One son, Thomas Wyatt Bartholomew 
and mother Renae of Mobile, Alabama; Three brothers, Robert Ridgway and 
wife Louise, Louisville, Kentucky, Ray Ridgway Jr. and wife Susan, Dodge
 City and Jeff Ridgway and wife Brandy, Hays, Kansas; sister; Peggy Falk
 and husband Detlaf of Germany, as well as extended family including 
several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be Friday, February 18, 2022, at 10:30am at the 
Christ United Methodist Church in College Station and a Celebration of 
Life will be held in Dodge City, Kansas in the near future.

Longtime Goodland, KS resident Beatrice “Bea” Driver, 92, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the Cheyenne County Village in St. Francis, KS.

Beatrice Mary (Beckman) (Struckhoff) Driver was born on January 28, 1930, to William H. and Anna Catherine (Robben) Beckman at home on the farm in Menlo, KS. &nbsp;She attended grades 1-12 at the Menlo School. &nbsp;After graduation, she worked at Hoxie State Bank. &nbsp;In 1952, she married Charles Struckhoff. &nbsp;To this union, two children were born; Mark Charles and Mary Beth. &nbsp;

In 1962, the couple would move from Grinnell, KS to Goodland, KS, where Bea would remain until she entered the Cheyenne County Village in St. Francis in November of 2019. &nbsp;Bea worked as both a secretary to the couple’s business, S &amp; H Drilling, and as a housewife. &nbsp;Bea and Charlie were active in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. &nbsp;Her favorite hobbies were golf, gardening and bowling. &nbsp;On December 12, 1983, Bea married Dr. R.K. Driver. &nbsp;With this marriage, the family grew with two stepsons Kirby Kay and Kenton Ray. &nbsp;At this time she was employed by Eagle TV and remained there until her retirement.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Dr. R.K. Driver, her son Mark Charles Struckhoff, stepson Kirby Kay Driver; her brothers William (Gerri) Beckman, Francis (Rita) Beckman, James (Hankie) Beckman, Charles (Margie) Beckman, Robert Beckman, Dennis Beckman, a sister Rose Marie (Douglas) Hartman and a brother-in-law Ben Ostmeyer.

She is survived by a daughter Mary Beth (Keith) Zweygardt of St. Francis, KS, a stepson Dr. K.D. (Dr. Stacy Clark-Driver) Driver of Salina, KS; two grandsons Kaleb (Sophie White) Zwick of McPherson, KS and Oskar&nbsp;Okeson&nbsp;of Sharon Springs, KS; six step grandsons Kirby (Brenda) Driver II of Oak Point, TX, Benjamin Driver of Salina, KS, Dillan (Tiffany) Zweygardt of San Antonio, TX, Drew (ShayLinn) Zweygardt of St. Francis, KS, Ty (Justice) Zweygardt of Colby, KS and Brock (Briell) Zweygardt of Wamego, KS; 2 step granddaughters Kelly Driver of Pilot Point, TX and Bailey Driver of Kansas City, KS, 7 step great grandsons and 4 step great granddaughters, and a sister Anna Belle Ostmeyer of Hoxie, KS.

Beatrice 'Bea' Mary (Beckman) Driver

Larena Jane O’Brien of Dighton, Kansas passed away February 14, 2022, at 
Scott County Hospital. She was born August 13, 1963, in Garden City, 
Kansas the daughter of Delmer and Marie (Shaffer) Speer. She attended 
Dighton Grade School and Dighton High School. 
On September 6, 1980, Larena married Eugene O’Brien. To this union three 
sons were born, Damion, Bailey, and Jesse. She companioned with Danny 
James for 15 years until his passing on December 28, 2016. 
Larena was a hard worker, she ran her own lawn and tree service for many
 years. She also helped her Dad and Uncle Roger during wheat harvest, 
operating a combine. She served as a meter maid for Lane Scott Electric,
 served on the Lane County Election Board, and served as a scout leader.
 Larena was currently employed at the Kwik Shop of Dighton, you could 
always plan to have her famous deviled eggs at the holiday family 
dinners. 
Larena in her younger years played women’s slow pitch softball and 
bowled on Monday Nite Mixed League with Danny. She loved being a grandma
 to her grandkids. 
She is survived by her Mother- Marie Speer of Dighton, Sister- Kathy 
Speer of Dighton, Three Sons- Damion O’Brien of Lawrence, Kansas, Bailey
 O’Brien (Sandi) of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Jesse O’Brien (Brandi)

Hanson&nbsp;(Tucson, AZ);&nbsp;eleven grandchildren,&nbsp;Christopher, Todd, Kyle, 
Heather, Spencer, Marissa, Jason, Katie, Morgan, Lauren, and 
Catherine;&nbsp;as well as&nbsp;seven&nbsp;great grandchildren,&nbsp;Liam,&nbsp;Sophia,&nbsp;Harlan,

Clarence
 and Hessie Hanson welcomed their youngest child Rodney&nbsp;who&nbsp;was born 
on&nbsp;April 20th, 1935 in Salina, KS. &nbsp;He grew up&nbsp;and helped his father 
farm&nbsp;in Assaria, KS and graduated from Assaria High School in 1953. 
&nbsp;After graduation Rod&nbsp;served in the U.S. Army for several years and was 
stationed in West Germany.&nbsp;&nbsp;After his discharge from the Army, 
he&nbsp;returned back to Assaria and married his childhood sweetheart Eleanor
 Verlee Perrill in&nbsp;September 1957.&nbsp;Rod and Verlee lived in&nbsp;Hays&nbsp;KS while
 he&nbsp;attended Fort Hays State&nbsp;College&nbsp;in Hays, KS and graduated in 1960 
with a&nbsp;BS&nbsp;degree in Mathematics.&nbsp;

Rod
 worked for the Bureau of Standards and then BellAerospace in Boulder 
CO&nbsp;then moving with Bell Aerospace to Tucson AZ&nbsp;in 1967.&nbsp;He was 
instrumental in figuring out communication locations around the world to
 communicate with both manned and unmanned Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo 
missions. &nbsp;As the Vietnam War was closing Rod settled into a position 
with the Department of Defense at Fort Huachuca Army Base. Rod worked in
 a number of areas including satellite communications and was an early 
user of GPS when it was still “Top Secret”. He finished his career as 
the Area Frequency Coordinator for southern Arizona. He retired in 2007.

Rod
 was happiest&nbsp;when he was around his children,grandchildren, 
and&nbsp;all&nbsp;other family members. &nbsp;He and&nbsp;his wife&nbsp;Verlee,&nbsp;attended 
countless events that their children and grandchildren&nbsp;participated in, 
including concerts, performances, baseball/softball&nbsp;games and soccer 
gamesjust to name a few. &nbsp;Rod had a very caring heart and loved his 
family fiercely. He was deeply committed to his children and 
grandchildren and loved to see&nbsp;them&nbsp;grow and learn.

Rod&nbsp;was
 a family historian of sorts and loved to share memories and stories 
about family, farming and growing up in central Kansas.&nbsp;He would set you
 straight if he thought you remembered something that&nbsp;wasn’t quite 
right.&nbsp;One of Rod’s highlights in later years was to attend the Assaria 
High School reunion every year where he could reconnect with not only 
his cousins and family&nbsp;but with classmates and friends he grew up with.

Rod’s
 presence as a father, grandfather, and friend givingadvice and 
counsel&nbsp;will be&nbsp;dearly&nbsp;missed. &nbsp;As per&nbsp;Rod’s request, there will be a 
private family memorial service at a later date.&nbsp;&nbsp;To honor&nbsp;Rod’s&nbsp;legacy 
and in his&nbsp;memory,&nbsp;Rod requested that&nbsp;in-lieu of flowers, donations be

 the Bradley County Medical Center. He was born August 22nd, 1941, in 
Leoti, Kansas a son of the late Joe Loflin and Myrtle Olsen Loflin. He 
spent his whole career in Aviation, he was a retired commercial airlines
 pilot and he spent 20 years with the Federal Aviation Administration. 
Robert served his country as a United States Army veteran, with 4 years 
of service. Also preceding him in are brothers Walt, Elvon, Ken, Waldo, 
Art and Ed Loflin. 
Robert is survived by his domestic partner, Mrs. Stella M. Nierwinski, 
Warren, AR, His daughter Charla L. Johnson and spouse Todd, Omaha, Neb. 
One grandchild Renee Johnson, Omaha, Neb. Brothers Jim Loflin, Denver,

Michael “Todd” Alexander, age 57, of Hays, Kansas died Monday, February 14, 2022, at his home. &nbsp;He was born December 4, 1964, at Shawnee Mission, Kansas to Dale Franklin Alexander and Mary Michele (Leary). &nbsp;He married Mendi (Lattin) Anschutz and they later separated.

He owned and operated Home Health Care Services of Western Kansas for 25 years. &nbsp;He grew up in Denver, and was a 1983 graduate John F. Kennedy High School. During high school he was active in &nbsp;track and football. &nbsp;He was graduate of the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. &nbsp;He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, enjoyed motor cycles, dirt bikes, fast cars, jet skis and going to the lake. &nbsp;

Survivors include his children, Monica Alexander, North Glenn, CO; Shelby Lynn Alexander, Hays, KS; Easton Alexander, Hays, KS; his grandchildren, Julies Alexander, Ayla Alexander, Domonic Alexander; his father, Dale F. Alexander and wife, Joyce, Aurora, CO; his mother, Mary Michele Alexander, Hays, KS; his brother, Toby D. Alvina 'Vicki' Smith (Sattler)

Jorita Sue Henry passed through heaven’s gates to the great beyond on a 
cold wintry morning surrounded by a fresh whitewash of snow, love and 
light on February 4, 2022, in Garden City, Kansas, at the age of 62. She
 was born August 12, 1959, in Washington, Kansas, to Treva Gayle Henry and
 Larry Gay Henry. 
 She was preceded in death by her parents Larry Henry in November of
 2012 and Treva Henry in April of 2015 as well as many lifelong friends 
and family members whom she missed dearly. 
 Survivors include one son and three granddaughters: Scott Henry, 
Mariel Henry, Sophia Henry, and Cameron Henry all residing in Garden 
City. 
 As a child she grew up with 4-H receiving accolades for a multitude 
of projects and activities at various locations around Kansas. After 
graduating from Goodland High School in 1977, she went on to Colby 
Community College and ended up at Fort Hays State University where she 
became a member of the Clovia House sorority, graduating with honors 
receiving her BS Degree. Eventually going back to FHSU where she again 
graduated with honors this time receiving her Bachelor of Science degree
 in Nursing in 2002. She then went on to be the Director of Nursing at

 </figure>Jorita Sue Henry passed through heaven’s gates to the great beyond on a 
cold wintry morning surrounded by a fresh whitewash of snow, love and 
light on February 4, 2022, in Garden City, Kansas, at the age of 62. She
 was born August 12, 1959, in Washington, Kansas, to Treva Gayle Henry and
 Larry Gay Henry. 
 She was preceded in death by her parents Larry Henry in November of
 2012 and Treva Henry in April of 2015 as well as many lifelong friends 
and family members whom she missed dearly. 
 Survivors include one son and three granddaughters: Scott Henry, 
Mariel Henry, Sophia Henry, and Cameron Henry all residing in Garden 
City. 
 As a child she grew up with 4-H receiving accolades for a multitude 
of projects and activities at various locations around Kansas. After 
graduating from Goodland High School in 1977, she went on to Colby 
Community College and ended up at Fort Hays State University where she 
became a member of the Clovia House sorority, graduating with honors 
receiving her BS Degree. Eventually going back to FHSU where she again 
graduated with honors this time receiving her Bachelor of Science degree
 in Nursing in 2002. She then went on to be the Director of Nursing at 
several facilities around the State of Kansas where she established a 
dictation of being a steadfast caring steward of the elderly and

She was also known as the family genealogist, collecting many 
generational family photos.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Olson and husband David of 
Great Bend, and Janice Lisenby of Texarka, Ark.; four grandchildren, 
Mike Johnson and wife Jeni of Wichita, Brian Lisenby and wife Tracy of 
Texarkana, Ark., Melinda McPherson and husband James of Foreman, Ark, 
and Jeff Olson and wife Haley of Topeka; and five great grandchildren, 
Tiffany McPherson, Natalie McPherson, Kimberly McPherson, Landon Olson 
and Logan Olson.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer Moore, Roy Moore 
and Vernon Moore; one sister, Marie Brack; and one son-in-law, Hal

Jerry Allen Cross passed away February 3, 2022, in Hill City, Kansas, at 
the age of 91. He was born August 6, 1930, in El Reno, Oklahoma, to Ruth 
Helen Cobb. He moved from Oklahoma to New Mexico and later to Colorado 
where met his wife, Bernice Uliberri. The couple was married September 
29, 1955, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and celebrated 59 years together. During 
this time, they raised nine children. Jerry and Bernice lived in many 
different states finally claiming Colorado and Kansas as home. 
 	It can be said that Jerry was a “Jack of all trades." He was a 
truck driver, heavy equipment operator, business owner and mechanic that
 could fix just about anything. He was always willing to help people 
out. There were stories of fixing cars, always stopping for a stranded 
motorist, teaching someone to drive, cleaning snow from driveways, 
pulling vehicles out of the mud, helping financially and maybe even 
picking up a hitchhiker or two. Jerry enjoyed hunting elk, fishing for 
trout and spending many hours talking on the CB. You could find Jerry, 
Bernice, and the kids along with the aunts, uncles and cousins camping, 
fishing or hunting in the mountains of Colorado. Hunting camp was one 
of his favorite places to be, another was behind the wheel, whether it 
be an 18-wheeler or just any vehicle would do. 
 	Jerry drove trucks for many years driving long hauls from coast to 
coast or the switch backs of Colorado in his log truck. He would often 
let the kids, and later the grandkids ride in the truck with him. He was
 known as “The Colorado Roadrunner” which later was shortened to “Double
 R”, he also gave his kids and most of his grandkids CB handles. It 
was said that he may have even let one of his daughters try chewing 
tobacco (better known as his bubble gum) and drink black coffee in one 
of those logging trucks. Later had a tough time explaining that one to 
mom. 
 	When the John Deere Company was in Colorado shooting commercials, 
and they needed a guide, someone told them, “Jerry Cross knows these 
hills like the back of his hand.” While guiding, the company noticed 
Jerry had skills as a mechanic, so he was offered a job. Jerry moved his
 family to Kansas. Jerry would later drive for the Salina Journal. Not 
being able to stay away from the big rigs, he bought a box truck and 
started hauling parts. Jerry and Bernice opened and operated “The 
Station” known as Cross Service in Albert, Kansas in 1989. Starting out
 as a mechanic shop and full-service gas station; it grew into a small 
convenience store and restaurant. The station became more than just a 
gas station. It became a place for family and friends to gather for 
good food, conversation, love and plenty of great times. 
 	Jerry liked spending time on the road. He would often load the 
family in the car on a Friday afternoon for a 10-hour drive, one way, to
 Colorado for the weekend showing up in the middle of the night. 
Talking to family and friends they remember his love for his dogs, 
camping, hunting, fishing, driving, his bubble gum and a shot of 
Peppermint Schnapps. 
 	 Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Helen and William 
Nabours; his wife Bernice; sons: Rocky Cross, Phillip Cross, and Jeffrey
 Cross. Leaving to mourn his passing are his sons: Dan Cross (Judy), of
 Ellis, Gary Cross, of Dolores, Colorado, Andrew “A.J” Cross (fiancé 
Melinda Eltiste), of Hill City, his daughters: Shawnee Cross of Albert, 
Elaine McKeever (Jeff), of Hill City, and Sadie Keith (Jan), of Otis; 
numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, friends 
and his beloved dog Itty Bitty.
 	“Dad, when we see you again, we will bring our lunch and I’m sure 
one of us will have a car you would be willing to buy for five dollars 
and even offer to give us a ride home. The grandkids said to tell you 
there is something on your shirt! Dad you will be missed.”

Peggy Lee (Scott) Mans passed peacefully through heaven’s gates on 
February 15, 2022, in Satanta, Kansas. She was born December 21, 1928, 
in Ness County, Kansas, to Eva Maddy Scott and Ralph E. Scott. She was 
married in 1949 and preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Mans, in
 1968. She was also preceded by her parents and siblings, Bill Scott, 
Bonna Todd, Evelyn Richardson, Jerry Scott, and Larry Scott. 
Survivors include two sons and two daughters and their spouses: Scott 
Mans of Parkdale, Oregon. Linda Mans Leary and Pat Leary of Erie, 
Pennsylvania. Debra and Brad Fort of Ulysses, Kansas. Michael and Nora 
Mans of Sierra Vista, Arizona. 
Peggy leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren: 
Travis &amp; Lindsay Fort and son Crawford; Jeanette Leary Pascale &amp;
 Blaise Pascale and children Lillian &amp; Everett; Joseph Leary; Jordan
 &amp; Adam Castro, and sons Noah &amp; Ellis; Carolyn Leary Gallegos

	After graduating from Utica High School and Brown Mackie Business 
College, Peggy married in St. Louis, Missouri. The couple lived in 
Salina before moving to Hays, Kansas. Peggy lived in Hays for forty 
years and retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas, in 1992. She moved to Erie, 
Pennsylvania, in 2010 and to Ulysses, Kansas, in 2017. Peggy has been 
“the rock” for her children. Following Joe’s death, she became a student
 at Fort Hays Kansas State College, stopping just short of a degree to 
become the executive secretary at their business department. She 
subsequently worked for the Hays offices of the IRS and Social Security.
 In retirement, Peggy worked a season at the information desk of Old 
Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone National Park. She became one of the early
 Creative Memories Consultants, teaching countless others to preserve 
their photo memories. The albums created for her family bring tremendous
 pleasure. In Bella Vista she was active in St. Bernard Catholic 
Church, the Women’s Club, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Photography Club. 
Her lifelong interests were her family, photography, fitness and travel.
 She was there whenever needed to help and enjoy her children and 
grandchildren. 
Peggy’s smile could light up your day! A planner and organizer at 
heart, Peggy reached out to draw in so many friends over the years. She
 very rarely complained and her motto was “If you are feeling low, find 
someone to help. It will not only brighten their day, but yours as 
well.” She shared this Prayer of St. Francis when she saw anyone 
struggling: 
 “Do not look forward to what might happen tomorrow; The same
 everlasting Father who cares for you today, will take care of you 
tomorrow and every day. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He
 will give you unfailing strength to bear it.”

Magnild “Maggie” N. Berry, age 89 of Henderson, NE died Tuesday, 
December 21, 2021, at Henderson. She was born September 30, 1932, at 
Kindred, ND to Edward and Myrtle (Gram) Otterson. On December 15, 1951, 
she was married to Dranon “Roy” Berry in North Dakota. She was formerly a

making crafts, crocheting, ceramics, cooking, and canning for her 
family. 
 
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Seng of McCool Jct, NE, her 
granddaughter Nichole (Jamen) Hall of Seward, NE, great-grandchildren 
are Dathen, Evan, and Brielle Hall all of Seward, and her siblings Allen
 Otterson of Moorehead, MN, Annette Larson of Fargo, ND, and Elaine 
LeClaire of Carson City, NV. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Orel 
Otterson, Burnette Otterson, Loyce Overland, Marvin Otterson, and Ralph 
Otterson.

Memorial&nbsp;services will&nbsp;be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022, at
 Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas with Steve Payne 
presiding.

Inurnment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

December 21, 2021, at Henderson. She was born September 30, 1932, at 
Kindred, ND to Edward and Myrtle (Gram) Otterson. On December 15, 1951, 
she was married to Dranon “Roy” Berry in North Dakota. She was formerly a
 member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scott City, KS. She enjoyed

Cheryl D. O’Connell, age 68, passed away on Friday, February 11, 
2022, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.&nbsp; 
She was born on October 21, 1953, in Kansas City,&nbsp; Missouri, the 
daughter of Louis Freeland and Patricia A. Casper.&nbsp; A resident of Scott 
City, Kansas since 2006 moving from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she was a 
Radiologist Technologist for 25 years.

She was a member of the Baptist Faith and Abate of Kansas Chapter 13 and Highway Guardians.

On June 6, 2008, she married Neil O’Connell in Golden, Colorado.&nbsp; He survives.

Survivors include her Husband - Neil O’Connell of Scott City, Kansas,
 One Son - John “Jake” &amp; Amy Jones of Scott City, Kansas, Two 
Daughters - Suzan Gilbert of Garden City, Kansas, Shirkara Lumpkins of 
Newton, Kansas, One Brother - David Freeland of Illinois, Nine 
Grandchildren, and Two Great Grandchildren. &nbsp; &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Two Brothers - Lonnie 
“Ratty” Freeland, and Two Grandchildren - Trent Truax and Hunter Truax.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26,

David Eugene Keller

Calvin Clifford Winter, 95, passed away February 15, 2022, at 
Brookdale Senior Living in Great Bend. He was born on August 29, 1926, 
at Hoisington, to Walter Henry and Mae June (Mowry) Winter. He married 
Marie Smith on February 9, 1947, at Garden City. She died on December 21,
 1985. He then married Linnea Searls on November 14, 1986, at Hoisington.
 She survives.

A lifetime Barton county resident, Calvin was a member of First 
Christian Church, VFW Post #3111 and American Legion Post #180. Cal was 
an accomplished athlete in high school and continued his love for sports
 throughout his life. After serving in WWII the United States Navy, Cal 
attended Kansas State University. After graduation he went directly to 
Bushton, Kan. where he coached all sports and became known for his 
coaching demeanor and winning teams. He then moved on to LaCrosse and 
ended up in Great Bend, where he became the Guidance Director of the 
Great Bend School District.

He had great friends and they spent most of their time hunting and 
golfing. He was excited about his 3 “Hole in Ones” at the Lake Barton 
Golf Course. Cal loved the outdoors and felt that Kansas was the most 
beautiful place on earth.

Survivors include, his wife Linnea Winter of the home; two daughters,
 Debra Steinbacher and husband Jim of New Braunfels, Tex. and Kim Maneth
 of Pratt; a brother, Dr. Walter H. Winter, Jr. of Arvada, Colo.; seven 
grandchildren, Trista Voos, Tabor Maneth, Gabriel Nall, Cade Brodbeck, 
Ashley Brown, Sydney Steinbacher and Nate Steinbacher; and seven great 
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, 
Marie Winter; a daughter, Fawne Winter; three brothers, Harold Winter, 
Dr. Wayne Winter and Glenn Winter; two sisters, Velma Betz and Dorothy 
Dowse; and a grandson, Sabin Steinbacher.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 
Bryant Funeral Home with Reverend Josh Leu presiding. Inurnment will be 
in the Great Bend Cemetery. 

Memorials have been designated to the USD 
428 Education Foundation, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
