Marilyn Iona (Mayo) Collins

At just past 11:00am Monday, February 28th, with her husband by her side, Marilyn Iona (Mayo) Collins crossed over to her heavenly home.

She was born August 1, 1945, in Norton, KS. She grew up just outside Precept, NE and attended a one-room schoolhouse through eighth grade before the family moved to Norton so Marilyn could attend high school.

After graduating in 1964 she started work as a nurse’s aide at the Norton County Hospital and continued to serve there for 46 years before retiring.

She married the love of her life Horace Elmer Collins Jr. on November 13th, 1982, in the Norton Christian Church, and they had two sons Scott Leland and Allen Russell. They took their boys on many adventures, but a family favorite was Estes Park where Marilyn and her sister Carol had been going since they were small girls.

Marilyn proudly became a grandma the day before her 32nd wedding anniversary and was heavily involved in her grandson, and when she came three years later her granddaughter’s, lives.

During her time here on Earth Marilyn was a girl scout leader and a boy scout leader, helping both her boys become Eagle Scouts. She was an EMT and served as the head of the funeral dinner committee. She was a member of both the Rebekah’s and Oddfellow’s organizations.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Verle and Alice (Navis) Mayo, her father and mother-in-law Horace and Nellie (Hardin) Collins, and her sisters-in-law Evelyn Lomax and Arliena Olmsted.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Horace Elmer Collins Jr., sons Scott Collins and Allen (Heather) Collins, sister Carol Mayo, grandchildren Ian Patrick and Mary Alice all of Norton. Cousin Ila (Scott) Smith of Yellville, AR, and her nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the Norton Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Norton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 pm Monday, March 7 at the funeral home.
