INIANAPOLIS - The Fort Hays State men's wrestling team placed 37th across two days of action at the 45th Midwest Classic this weekend.

A pair of Tigers picked up a win in their first action in the championship bracket, with&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/a-b-stokes/8307">A.B. Stokes</a>&nbsp;(125) racking up four takedowns and four nearfall points in a 20-2 technical fall victory. Stokes finished the tournament with a 1-2 record.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/tereus-henry/8295">Tereus Henry</a>, the eighth-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds, later won his first bout of the weekend with a third-period pin to advance in the championship bracket. The former All-American then moved on to the quarterfinals with a 4-0 decision thanks to a third-period takedown. Henry advanced to Sunday's competition, where he lost his next two bouts to finish the weekend at 2-2.

Despite dropping his first bout of the weekend,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/connor-padgett/8304">Connor Padgett</a>&nbsp;battled back to secure a pair of bonus-point victories in the 174-pound consolation bracket. The redshirt-freshman picked up a pin in less than one minute in the first consolation round before rattling off a 14-2 major decision in the next round.The

LIBERTY, Mo. – Fort Hays State rallied from a 15-point deficit late in the first half and beat William Jewell College 63-59 Saturday at the Mabee Center in a battle of NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago.

Kaleb Hammeke was fouled on a driving layup with 7:31 to play to give the Tigers (5-3) their biggest lead at 61-55. FHSU wouldn't score again until Hammeke's layup with 5.7 seconds left. The Tigers held the Cardinals (4-6)&nbsp; to just four points over the final 10 minutes of the game and&nbsp; The Tigers held the Cardinals to just 2-of-9 shooting and four turnovers in the final 10 minutes.

William Jewell's Jordan Jermain scored 20 of his game-high 25 points in the first half. He hit his first four 3-point shots and made seven of his first eight field-goal attempts overall. The Cardinals shot a 62.5-percent from the field in the first half, including a 6-of-10 effort from beyond the 3-point line to build a 41-29 halftime lead.

Fort Hays State opened the second half on a 10-2 run to pull within four in the first three minutes. After William Jewell pushed the lead back to eight, Shaun Riley scored eight points of a&nbsp;13-4 Tiger run in which they took their first lead since early in the first half on a Dan Makuna layup.&nbsp;

FHSU outscored William Jewell 34-18 in the second half and outscored the Cardinals to just 34.8 percent shooting in the second frame, including just 1-of-7 from beyond the arc. FHSU was shooting 62 percent from the field in the second half but hit just one of their final eight shots.

Hammeke scored FHSU's&nbsp; final seven points and led five Tigers in double-figures with 11 points. Riley, Kyle Grill, R.J, Crawford and Traejon Davis&nbsp;all scored 10 points each. All nine Tigers that played scored. The Tigers out-rebounded Cardinals by seven led by Riley's nine boards. Hammeke dished out a team-high four assists.

Joining Jermain in double figures for the Cardinals were Luke Jordan with 11 and Bryce Mitchell with 10.

Fort Hays State will take just a day off and return to action Monday night at Gross Memorial Coliseum when it takes on Bethel College at 7 p.m. FHSU will be at home for its next three games, all within the span of seven days before the holiday break.&nbsp;&nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Zeke Mayo hit five 3s and scored 26 points, Hunter Dickinson had 21 points and 14 rebounds, and No. 10 Kansas bounced back from consecutive losses with a 75-60 rout of NC State on Saturday.

Dajuan Harris Jr. added 15 points and six assists for the Jayhawks (8-2), who scored the first 15 points of the game but didn't have it in hand until midway through the second half, when Dickinson scored eight consecutive points to bury the Wolfpack.

Kansas won its 20th consecutive nonconference home game and avoided its first three-game skid since the 2022-23 season.

Ben Middlebrooks had 14 points and Brandon Huntley-Hatfield finished with 12 for the Wolfpack (7-4), who have lost their last 13 games to Kansas since winning their first matchup at Allen Fieldhouse on Dec. 20, 1958.

NC State was able to get the Kansas big men into foul trouble, and that allowed Middlebrooks to have success. But the Wolfpack didn't get enough production from the perimeter, where Dontrez Styles and Marcus Hill struggled.

Kansas proved it could survive foul trouble in the paint. Dickinson had three fouls and KJ Adams Jr. and Flory Bidunga four apiece with 12 minutes left. But the Jayhawks' guards, and Mayo in particular, were able to take over the game.

The Jayhawks led 48-41 with 13:10 left when Mayo rattled in a 3-pointer from the corner. He added a free throw moments later, then a blow-by layup, giving Kansas a 54-41 lead with 12 minutes to go.

5 — Harris hit a layup with 18:14 left to give him 1,001 points for his career. He's the fifth member of the team to surpass that plateau, joining Mayo, Dickinson, David Coit and Shakeel Moore.

WJC faces FHSU this weekend and then heads to Wichita to play Newman on December 17. HILL CITY—The TMP-Marian Monarchs boys and girls basketball teams split a pair of Mid-Continent League games on the road Friday night in Hill City. The TMP girls won 54-21, while the boys lost 51-41. 

Hill City had an early 3-2 lead, but the Monarchs’ Brooke Koenigsman connected on a three-pointer with less than five and a half minutes left in the first quarter, sparking a 13-2 run to put TMP (2-2, 1-0 MCL) up 15-5 at the end of the first quarter.&nbsp;

It was more of the same in the second quarter when the Monarchs extended their first-half run to 26-3 and built a 28-6 lead.&nbsp;

&nbsp; TMP led 33-13 heading into the fourth quarter.&nbsp;

The Monarchs closed out the game outscoring Hill City 21-6 in the second half on their way to the win.&nbsp;

Claire Schippers scored 11 points, and 10-of-11 Monarchs who played scored.&nbsp;

BOYS: Hill City 51, TMP 41 The TMP-Marian boys could not overcome a low-scoring second quarter, dropping their fourth straight to start the year Friday, 51 to 41.&nbsp;

After an early three-pointer by Hill City (1-1, 1-1 MCL), the Monarchs scored five straight points on a WIll Eck three-pointer and a Ty Schmeidler field goal. &nbsp;&nbsp;

But that lead was short-lived as the Ringnecks proceeded to outscore TMP 18-4 to end the first and cover the entire second and the early moments of the third.&nbsp;

Caden Dinkel connected on a three-pointer with just 10 seconds left, pulling TMP (0-4, 0-1 MCL) within two points. But a Hill City three with non-time left gave them a five-point lead at 32-27. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 

Hill City opened the fourth quarter shooting 4-for-4 from the floor, and they were able to  extend their lead to 11 at 38-27.&nbsp;

Ty Schmeidler broke out of his 1-for-18 from three with four three-pointers and scored a team-high 15 points. &nbsp;

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Fort Hays State men's and women's track and field teams posted several standout performances at the UNK Pre-Holiday Classic Friday, including one broken school record, four national qualifying marks, multiple event wins and personal bests.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-track-and-field/roster/annabeth-baalmann/8389">Annabeth Baalmann</a>&nbsp;stole the show by breaking her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 13-3.75 to surpass her previous indoor best by three inches. The junior easily cleared her first two heights before first breaking the record at 13-1.75 (4.01m), becoming the first woman in school history to surpass the four-meter mark, indoors or outdoors. She then pushed the bar up another five centimeters, clearing her school-record height on her third attempt. The NCAA Division II national qualifying mark ranks her fourth in the country to date.

Her performance was one of six event titles for the women's team.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-track-and-field/roster/jayme-hagerman/8396">Jayme Hagerman</a>&nbsp;added two victories of her own, claiming the long jump with a personal-best leap of 18-2.25 and securing the triple jump crown with a mark of 35-9.25.On the track,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-track-and-field/roster/reba-mader/8402">Reba Mader</a>&nbsp;dominated at two distances, winning the 60-meter dash in 8.02 and the 600-yard run in 1:27.33.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-track-and-field/roster/taylor-hoskinson/8444">Taylor Hoskinson</a>&nbsp;led the distance runners with a commanding first-place finish in the 3,000 meters, clocking 10:46.95.Other notable performances for the Tiger women included&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-track-and-field/roster/donna-jackson/8400">Donna Jackson's</a>&nbsp;second-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles (9.31) and long jump (17-0.75), while&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-track-and-field/roster/makenzie-premer/8447">Makenzie Premer</a>&nbsp;delivered a strong double, finishing third in the 600-yard run (1:30.09) and second in the 3,000 meters (11:33.78).

The Tiger men also enjoyed a stellar outing, highlighted by national-qualifying marks from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/jacob-clark/8482">Jacob Clark</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/brady-deges/8485">Brady Deges</a>&nbsp;in the pole vault. Clark cleared 16-6.75 to take the top spot, while Deges cleared an indoor personal-best 16-0.75 to take second place on the day and move into the top 10 on the national performance chart.

In the sprints,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/hayden-albright/8477">Hayden Albright</a>&nbsp;claimed the 60-meter dash title with a national-qualifying time of 6.84, while teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/toby-wahlmeier/8507">Toby Wahlmeier</a>&nbsp;followed closely in second with a personal-best time of 6.87. The Tigers swept the top five spots in the final, with four athletes setting personal bests.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/ethan-salmans/8502">Ethan Salmans</a>&nbsp;gave the Tigers another victory in the 60m hurdles, taking first in 8.42.Distance standout&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/christian-darrah/8512">Christian Darrah</a>&nbsp;was victorious in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 8:41.87, while&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/daniel-bechle/8478">Daniel Bechle</a>&nbsp;(4:32.98) and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/ian-weich/8519">Ian Weich</a>&nbsp;(4:33.86) took the top two spots in the mile.

Fort Hays State will now look to carry this momentum into the new year when the Tigers travel to Topeka, Kan. on January 17th) for the Washburn Rust Buster.

 </figure>FHSU AthleticsKEARNEY, Neb. - The Fort Hays State men's and women's track and field teams posted several standout performances at the UNK Pre-Holiday Classic Friday, including one broken school record, four national qualifying marks, multiple event wins and personal bests.<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-track-and-field/roster/annabeth-baalmann/8389">Annabeth Baalmann</a>&nbsp;stole the show by breaking her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 13-3.75 to surpass her previous indoor best by three inches. The junior easily cleared her first two heights before first breaking the record at 13-1.75 (4.01m), becoming the first woman in school history to surpass the four-meter mark, indoors or outdoors. She then pushed the bar up another five centimeters, clearing her school-record height on her third attempt. Hays High hosted Junction City for their final home games of 2024.&nbsp;

Hays scored the first 18 points of the game on the way to a 79-20 win over the Blue Jays.

Junction City scored their first two points from the free throw line to make the score 18-2. The Indians scored the next 24 points before another Blue Jay free throw at 44-3.

Molly Buckles scored ten points consecutive points for the Indians during the second quarter, the final of those points made the score 46-3. Junction City made their lone first half field goal with a three pointer at 49-6 before the Indians scored the final seven points of the half, capped by a Jaysa Roa layup at the buzzer for a halftime score of 56-6.

Junction City outscored Hays 11-9 in the third quarter making three field goals and five of ten free throw attempts. The Indians led 65-17 going to a continuous clock fourth quarter.

Hays added 14 more points in the fourth quarter to their total for a final of 79-20. The point total matches the 79 scored by the Indians in the opening round of the Hays City Shootout in 2018 against Great Bend.

Hays improves to 5-0 and will play in Manhattan next Friday to close out 2024. Junction City falls to 0-1. Jenna Schmeidler scored a game high 16. Lynsi Kanak and Molly Buckles added career highs of 12 points.

Boys #10-6A Junction City 50 - Hays 32

A big third quarter by Junction City sunk the hopes of Hays on Friday night at Hays High School as the Blue Jays won 50-32.

Junction City led the entire game. The Indians had chances to take the lead or tie the game trailing 5-4 and 9-7 but couldn't score. Junction City led 12-9 when they opened up a ten point lead on a 9-2 run that covered the first two minutes of the second quarter.

Trailing 21-11 with 6:12 to go in the first half, Hays allowed just one more point for the rest of the second quarter. The Indians closed the deficit down to three by halftime using an 8-1 run. Trace Jacobs scored the last six points of the run.

The third quarter belonged to Junction City. The Blue Jays outscored Hays 17-2 to build their lead to 39-21 entering the fourth quarter. The Blue Jays continued their run for the first two minutes of the fourth quarter with nine straight points. The 26-2 run covered 10 minutes and pushed the Junction City lead to 48-21.&nbsp;

The Indians could only close the gap down to 50-32 over the next six minutes for the final difference.

Dawson Ruder led Hays with 17 points. Jackson Autry, last year's Centennial League player of the year, led Junction City with 15.

Hays falls to 3-2 on the year, both losses coming to state ranked 6A teams. Junction City moves to 2-0. Hays travels to Manhattan next Friday to close out 2024.

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Men's Basketball has officially announced the signing of Ben Johnson for the 2025-26 season. Johnson is currently a senior at Kearney High School in Kearney, Neb. He is a 6-foot, 5-inch guard.

Johnson was a Class A All-State selection and a Nebraska Super State Third Team selection as a junior in 2023-24. He averaged 18.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game and helped Kearney High School to the A-7 District Final. He was also an all-state honorable mention pick in his sophomore season. Johnson was the Kearney Hub Territory Player of the Year in 2023-24.

Early on in his senior campaign of 2024-25, Johnson eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his high school career.&nbsp;&nbsp;

🏀 FHSU men announce the signing of Ben Johnson for 2025-26

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Tadhg Walsh, Marcos German and Elias Ovelar Semeniuk&nbsp;received more all-region selections on Thursday, named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Central Region Team. All three were also named to the D2CCA All-Central Region First Team in late November. This all-region team is selected by coaches within the Central Region.

Walsh, German, and Semeniuk were among the 11 players from the Central Region to receive the honor from United Soccer Coaches. All three were also All-GAC First Team selections in 2024. Walsh and German were both named All-America selections by the D2CCA earlier this week after the all-region first team selections.

Walsh finished the year with 25 points to lead Fort Hays State. He set a new single-season record at FHSU for assists with 15, while adding five goals for the season. He was an All-GAC First Team selection for the second-straight year and is now a three-time all-conference selection overall.

⚽ Three Tigers named to United Soccer Coaches All-Central Region Team

KANSAS- The Kansas Shrine Bowl is proud to introduce the coaches who will lead the East and West teams in the 52nd Kansas Shrine Bowl presented by Mammoth on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Dodge City, Kansas. Each classification 1A through 6A is represented on the coaching staff, while the Head Coach of each team is selected from the previous year’s Kansas Shrine Bowl assistants.

The West team will be led by Dominick Dingle (Wichita Heights) and assisted by Russ Wells (Wichita South – 6A), Mike Vernon (Hutchinson – 5A), Daniel Myears (Mulvane – 4A), Tyson Bauerle (Hesston – 3A), Butch Hayes (Council Grove – 2A), and Alex McMillian (Plainville – 1A). Wells (2020), Vernon (2021) and Bauerle (2018) have all assisted on the West staff in previous Shrine Bowls, while Bauerle also led the 2019 West team to a 26-7 victory as the Head Coach at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City.

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Senior wing&nbsp;Achor Achor&nbsp;has left the Kansas State men’s basketball team for personal reasons, head coach&nbsp;Jerome Tang&nbsp;announced on Wednesday afternoon.

“Achor and I have decided that there are more important things than basketball for him at this time,” said Tang. “I hope some time away will allow him to reprioritize things in his life and allow him to finish his degree. We wish him well. My focus is always to help young men become the best version of themselves and to help K-State become an elite program. We are developing men who will be great husbands and fathers.”

The Melbourne, Australia native transferred to K-State this summer after 2 seasons at Samford. He appeared in 7 games, averaging 7.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 13.2 minutes per game.&nbsp;&nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — You can count Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes among those who are not exactly thrilled about the NFL forcing the two-time defending Super Bowl champions to play three times over an 11-day span in the coming weeks.

The Chiefs are among four teams — the Texans, Steelers and Ravens are the others — who were picked to play on Christmas Day this year. But with the holiday falling on Wednesday, when the NFL has rarely played, those four also will have to play the prior Saturday to give them at least some rest. And the result is two short weeks following their games on Sunday.

“It's not a good feeling,” Mahomes acknowledged Wednesday. “You never want to play this amount of games in this short of time. It's not great for your body. But at the end of the day it's your job, your profession, you have to come to work and do it."

The Chiefs visit the Browns on Sunday, while the Ravens visit the Giants, the Steelers visit the Eagles and the Texans host the Dolphins.

On Dec. 21, the Texans head to Kansas City and the Steelers visit Baltimore, before the Christmas Day doubleheader that begins with the Chiefs heading to Pittsburgh and ends with the Ravens in Houston.

Mahomes was asked whether he has ever had three games in such a short span, he replied: “I haven't in football.”

He has in high school baseball, of course. Maybe basketball. But certainly not football, and not at the physical level of the NFL.

“All you can do is focus on the game. The practice you have that day,” Mahomes said. “I try to prepare my body all year long for this stretch. That's tailoring my workouts, tailoring how you practice and prepare, and the coaches do a great job of taking care of us on the practice field. We practice as hard as anybody, but they know how to dial it back when needed.”

The NFL has played on Wednesday in the past, the previous time in 2020, when the Steelers and Ravens had their game pushed back because of a COVID-19 outbreak.

In 2012, the NFL's opener between the Giants and Cowboys took place on Wednesday so the TV networks could broadcast Barack Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention.

But prior to those games, the NFL had not had a Wednesday game since the Lions and Rams played on Sept. 22, 1948.

“It's a unique situation. You just have to manage it,” said Chiefs coach Andy Reid, whose team will have played on every day of the week but Tuesday this season. “It is what it is. You make the best of it.”

Humphries (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday, though he has not been ruled out for Cleveland. “Every day he's gotten a little better,” Reid said. ... WR Hollywood Brown (shoulder) could begin practicing soon, Reid said, while declining to put a timetable on it. “He's chomping at the bit to get out there. But he's got to visit the with doctors and make sure he gets clearance there,” Reid said. ... CB Steven Nelson came out of retirement to join the Kansas City practice squad this week. He will not play this weekend but could be ready soon. ... K Harrison Butker (knee) will try kicking this week, though Reid was noncommittal on whether he would come off injured reserve. If he's not ready, Matthew Wright would kick against the Browns.
