The ranked duo of No. 2&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5806">Mason Turner</a>&nbsp;and No. 8&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5790">A.J. Cooper</a>&nbsp;bookmarked the dual with pins at 125 and 285 pounds, but the Lopers came away with wins in the eight remaining bouts. The Tigers finish their regular season at 3-7, 2-1 in conference action while the Lopers end their year at 10-3, 3-0 in the MIAA. &nbsp; This dual started with two of the&nbsp;best in the nation at 125 pounds. After a couple tough periods, No. 1 Josh Portillo and No. 2 Turner were even in scoring headed to the final frame after trading reversals in the second period. After electing for the neutral position to start the third period, Turner gained the advantage with a takedown before turning&nbsp;Portillo on his back, securing the fall&nbsp;49 seconds in the third period. Entering the third period with a 7-1 deficit, Verhaeghe scored an escape and takedown to bring him within three points. As time was ticking away, Verhaeghe caught Garraway's leg and drove Garraway to his back. Verhaeghe nearly earned the fall, but&nbsp;Garraway was able to escape with a 10-6 decision. Nebraska-Kearney picked up more bonus points at 184 with a 15-0 tech fall. 🤼No. 17 Wrestling Drops Regular Season Finale to Second-Ranked Lopers

Emporia Public Schools recently announced Keaton Tuttle as the next head football
coach for Emporia High School. Tuttle, who has been with the Emporia High football
program for the past five seasons as the offensive line coach, had been named the
interim head coach in October of 2020. Currently, Tuttle is in his sixth year of teaching
and is a Technology Education teacher at Emporia High School.


Tuttle, originally from Iowa, played collegiately at Iowa Western Community College
before receiving a scholarship to play in Kansas in the MIAA at Fort Hays State
University. Upon graduating from FHSU, Tuttle accepted a teaching job at EHS and
has made Emporia his home ever since. Tuttle brings a wealth of knowledge and is
well respected in the coaching community. “​I'm very thankful for the opportunity to
continue to build upon what we have started here at Emporia High. It is a great chance
to combine a lot of things I'm very passionate about, the Emporia community, our
schools, football, and a family atmosphere,” Tuttle said. “Being a positive role model for
young students and athletes is very important to me. I have called Emporia home for 6
years, and I could not see myself anywhere else. Lastly, I would like to thank my
parents, family, administration, friends, and coaches. Especially those who believed in
me and helped shape me into the man I am today."

Curtis Simons, assistant principal/athletic director at EHS said, “We are excited to offer
Keaton the opportunity to be the head coach of our football program. He is familiar with
our student-athletes and has been a part of the program for the past five seasons. We
sincerely appreciate his time as the interim head coach and look forward to watching
him grow and continue his success as the head coach.”

Former FHSU player named coach of Emporia High football team

CLAREMORE, Okla. – In a back-and-forth battle late in the second half, the Tigers came up on the short end of a 69-66 decision at Rogers State. The Tigers tied the game with 14 seconds remaining, but Rogers State converted a 3-point play with four ticks remaining to snap FHSU's four-game win streak. Both teams are now 8-9 on the season. The game never saw a lead larger than seven points and the lead changed hands 12 times. The Tigers enjoyed a brief two-point lead in the first half, but the Hillcats held a slim advantage most of the opening frame and eventually led 33-28 at halftime.

Rogers State's lead reached seven points four times after the break, but a 10-2 run had the Tigers back in front by one at the midway point of the second half. From that point, the lead kept going back and forth with neither team leading by more than three points the rest of the way. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5868">Quinten Rock</a>&nbsp;hit a 3-pointer in the right corner to put the Tigers up two with 1:39 remaining, but after gathering an offensive rebound, Rogers State went back up one on a Devin Pullum 3-pointer with 58 seconds remaining. FHSU had two chances at a bucket but came up empty and then RSU hit one of two free throws to lead by two.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5859">Kaleb Hammeke</a>&nbsp;knotted the score for the seventh time (65-65) by hitting a runner up the left side of the paint with 14 seconds left, but Rogers State took a timeout with 10 seconds remaining to set up its final offensive look. The Hillcats made good on their offensive chance as Darraja Parnell banked in a shot and was fouled with four seconds remaining. He added the free throw to make the advantage three.

Instead of letting the Tigers get a late look at a 3-pointer, the Hillcats fouled Hammeke near midcourt to set up a 1-and-1 at the line. Hammeke hit the first, but had to miss the second on purpose. The free-throw line was the difference maker for Rogers State, where they made 13 more than the Tigers and attempted 16 more throws.

Fort Hays State looks to regroup from the tough loss and try for a winning road trip on Saturday at Northeastern State. The Tigers are 1-1 on their trip to Oklahoma so far. Tipoff is set for 3:30 pm in Tahlequah.&nbsp;&nbsp;

🏀📻 Tigers look to continue win streak tonight at Rogers State

ROCHESTER, MN – The Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) has 
named Kurt Kohler as the new executive director. &nbsp;Kohler comes to the 
MCAC from Northeast Community College in Nebraska, where he served as 
the dean of student life and athletic director since 2017.&nbsp;

During his time at Northeast, Kohler was responsible for leading 
numerous departments including residence life, counseling services, 
student conduct, student activities, student health, dining services, 
and athletics.&nbsp; As the chief athletic administrator, he directed a 
department of seven coaches, and 160 student-athletes in eight sports 
that competed at the National Junior College Athletic Association 
Division I and Division II levels in the Iowa Community College Athletic
 Conference (ICCAC).&nbsp;

Northeast Athletics experienced incredible success with Kohler at the
 helm, earning multiple regional and district championships and making 
national tournament appearances in volleyball, baseball, and golf. &nbsp;Over
 500 student-athletes earned regional and national academic awards 
during his short tenure, with nearly 90 student-athletes earning NJCAA 
All-American or All-Region XI status.&nbsp;

Kohler said he “feels privileged to serve the great colleges of the 
Minnesota College Athletic Conference” in his role as the executive 
director.

“I want to thank the MCAC Executive Committee for all their time and 
hard work throughout the process of hiring me for this position, and I 
am extremely excited to get to work.&nbsp; I look forward to meeting with the
 student-athletes and athletic staffs of the 24 MCAC colleges and 
building upon the already successful MCAC brand.”

Prior to Northeast Community College, Kohler served as the head 
volleyball coach at Fort Hays State University in Kansas for nine 
seasons.&nbsp; He has previous athletic administrative experience there too. 
&nbsp;Before coaching at Fort Hays State, he was at Barton Community College 
(KS) where he initially coached volleyball for one season in 2005 and 
was voted the Jayhawk West Division Coach of the Year that season. He 
then served as Barton’s athletic director for three years.

In 2004, Kohler was at Missouri Western State University, where he 
was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, and previously served
 as an assistant and head coach at Allen County Community College (ACCC)
 in Kansas. He served as the assistant athletic director at ACCC while 
coaching volleyball, eventually becoming the interim athletic director. 
He was voted Jayhawk East Division Coach of the Year in 2002 while at 
Allen.

Kohler was the athletic director and head volleyball coach at Weld 
Central High School in Keenesburg, CO, during the 2000-01 academic year.
 In his time at WCHS, he guided the volleyball program to one of its top
 finishes in school history and helped triple the size of the booster 
club. He planned and promoted fund-raising efforts that doubled the 
budget of the athletic program.

Kohler also spent time as the supervisor of youth sports for the Fort
 Collins, CO, Parks and Recreation Department. While in Colorado, he was
 a teacher and volleyball coach at Karval High School in Karval, and 
Genoa-Hugo High School in Hugo. He earned league Coach of the Year 
honors twice while coaching in Colorado. He also served as president of 
the Colorado High School Volleyball Coaches Association in 2000 and 
2001.

Kohler is a native of Colorado Springs, CO. He earned a Bachelor of 
Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Colorado State 
University. He also earned a Teaching Certificate for Physical Education
 and General Sciences. He obtained his Masters of Science degree in 
Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Emporia State 
University.

Mike Lester, the President of the MCAC Executive Committee said, “We

 In his time at WCHS, he guided the volleyball program to one of its top
 finishes in school history and helped triple the size of the booster 
club. He planned and promoted fund-raising efforts that doubled the 
budget of the athletic program.Kohler also spent time as the supervisor of youth sports for the Fort
 Collins, CO, Parks and Recreation Department. While in Colorado, he was
 a teacher and volleyball coach at Karval High School in Karval, and 
Genoa-Hugo High School in Hugo. He earned league Coach of the Year 
honors twice while coaching in Colorado. He also served as president of 
the Colorado High School Volleyball Coaches Association in 2000 and 
2001.Kohler is a native of Colorado Springs, CO. He earned a Bachelor of 
Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Colorado State 
University. He also earned a Teaching Certificate for Physical Education

🏀📻 No. 9 FHSU women look for 10th straight win at Rogers State

BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox traded Andrew Benintendi to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night, parting with the final member of the outfield trio that helped the team win the 2018 World Series. 

The Red Sox sent Benintendi along with an unspecified amount of cash to the Royals for Franchy Cordero and two players to be named. 

Boston also received minor league right-handed pitcher Josh Winckowski and a player to be named from the New York Mets. 

The Mets received outfielder Khalil Lee from the Royals.

EDMOND, Okla. - Fort Hays State made a season-high 17 three-pointers and beat Central Oklahoma 89-79 in a makeup game Wednesday afternoon at Hamilton Field House. It's the Tigers (8-8, 8-8 MIAA) fourth-straight win and second in in five days over the Bronchos (8-7, 8-7 MIAA).

The Tigers hit&nbsp; their first nine 3-point attempts and built an 18-point lead but the Bronchos closed the half on a 13-3 run to pull within 43-35 at halftime.

UCO outscored the Tigers 8-2 to open the second half to pull within two at 45-43. They would get within two points three more times but could never tie or take the lead.

Up six with three minutes to play, the Tigers hit three straight threes to take control down the stretch. Nyjee Wright hit the first to push the lead to nine. Kaleb Hammeke then hit from the right corner and left corner to push the lead to 10.

Hammeke went 6-of-7 from beyond the arc and led the Tigers with 20 points. Quinten Rock went 4-for-6 from three and added 19 points along with seven assists without a turnover. Jared Vitztum scored 17. His only three of the game in the first half gave him 1,000 points in his career.

Wright scored a season-high 11, playing a season-high 15 minutes.

The Tigers shot 55-percent for the game including 17-of-26 from beyond the arc and 14-of-16 from the free throw line.

FHSU is back in action Thursday night in Claremore against Rogers State.

The Tigers and Orediggers are working on rescheduled dates for the three-game series. Dates and times for the make-up games will be announced at a later date.

Fort Hays State is next scheduled to travel to Denver, Colo. for a four-game series against MSU Denver February 19-21.

The Tiger men will wrap the three-game trip in Oklahoma on Saturday when it plays at Northeastern State. The Tigers enter Wednesday on a three-game win streak, all accomplished at home with wins over Nebraska-Kearney, Newman, and Central Oklahoma. The Tigers have won two road games so far this year (at Newman and Missouri Southern), both in overtime. The meeting with Central Oklahoma in Edmond last year went to overtime, but UCO claimed that meeting 80-73. However, with the win this past Saturday in Hays, FHSU has won five of the last six meetings with UCO. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5865">Jared Vitztum</a>&nbsp;nears a milestone on Wednesday as he is only nine points shy of 1,000 for his career at FHSU. He looks to become the 22nd&nbsp;player in men's program history to reach the mark. The Tigers enter Wednesday on a three-game win streak, all accomplished at home with wins over Nebraska-Kearney, Newman, and Central Oklahoma. The Tigers have won two road games so far this year (at Newman and Missouri Southern), both in overtime. The meeting with Central Oklahoma in Edmond last year went to overtime, but UCO claimed that meeting 80-73. However, with the win this past Saturday in Hays, FHSU has won five of the last six meetings with UCO. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5865">Jared Vitztum</a>&nbsp;nears a milestone on Wednesday as he is only nine points shy of 1,000 for his career at FHSU. He looks to become the 22nd&nbsp;player in men's program history to reach the mark. The last to reach the milestone was&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4039">Brady Werth</a>, a native of Hays just like Vitztum, in 2019. Vitztum averages 18.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game and has eight double-doubles on the season to lead NCAA Division II. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5868">Quinten Rock</a>&nbsp;led the Tigers in scoring against Central Oklahoma in the meeting in Hays this past Saturday. He had 23 points, going 8-of-14 from the field with five 3-point field goals. He was also 2-of-2 at the free-throw line. Vitztum and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5864">Alvin Thompson</a>&nbsp;each had 13 points, while&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6064">Jordan Pumphrey</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5859">Kaleb Hammeke</a>&nbsp;each had 11 to put five FHSU players in double figures. RUSSELL - The TMP-Marian Monarch basketball teams picked up a doubleheader sweep of Russell Tuesday.

The TMP-Marian used a 10-2 second quarter run to build a double-digit
lead and they never looked back on their way to a 60-36 win Tuesday in Russell.

Emilee Lane scored the first six points of the game for TMP
(13-3, 7-1) as the Monarchs and the Broncos traded field goals to open the game
with TMP taking a 6-5 lead.

With TMP leading by one at 10-9 the Monarchs scored six straight
and led 16-9 before Russell ( 7-8, 3-4 MCL) tallied a pair of free throws cutting
TMP’s lead to 16-11.

A Sophia Balthazor three-pointer to open the second quarter
briefly gave TMP a 19-11 lead. Russell was able to quickly cut the lead back to
two at 19-17 with a 6-0 run.

TMP answered with an 8-0 run to lead by 10 at 27-7. The
Monarchs led by 10 three different times in the second quarter and led 34-26 at
halftime when Lane hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.

The Monarchs opened the second half on a 12-2 run building a
46-28 lead. Russell scored the final seven points of the third quarter cutting
TMP’s lead to 11 at 46-35.

TMP outscored Russell 14-1 in the fourth quarter on their
way to the 60-36 win.

🏀TMP-Marian sweeps Russell

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs placed outside linebackers coach Britt Reid on administrative leave while an investigation continues into a crash that injured two children. 

The team has said Reid, who is head coach Andy Reid's son, was involved in a multi-vehicle crash last Thursday that injured two young children near the team’s training complex next to Arrowhead Stadium. 

A 5-year-old girl, identified by the Chiefs as Ariel Young, remained in critical condition on Tuesday. The Chiefs said the team has contacted the girl's family and is offering support and resources to them. Andy Reid said this week that Britt underwent surgery after the crash.&nbsp;

Friends have established a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/5-year-old-ariel-medical-expenses">GoFundMe</a> page to raise funds to pay the medical expenses for Ariel.

Andy Reid said Sunday night that his “heart bleeds” for those injured in the crash involving his son.

The crash occurred&nbsp; two days before the Chiefs were due to leave for the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida. A vehicle had run out of gas on a highway entrance ramp and another vehicle had parked nearby to assist when the younger Reid’s pickup truck struck the left front of the first car before hitting the rear of the second car.

Britt Reid told police he had “two or three drinks” and had a prescription for Adderall when the accident occurred, according to a search warrant filed late Thursday night.&nbsp;

Britt Reid has been in legal trouble several times.

He was arrested in January 2007 in Pennsylvania a road-rage incident in which he pointed a gun at another driver, and he was sentenced to up to 23 months in jail and five years of probation after pleading guilty to charges of carrying an unlicensed firearm, simple assault, possession of a controlled substance and possession of an instrument of crime.

Seven months later, Reid was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to up to six months in jail.

Reid appeared to get his life on track, beginning his coaching career as an intern for his father with the Eagles in 2009. He spent the next two years as a graduate assistant at Temple, his alma mater, before joining the staff in Kansas City.

After two seasons as a defensive quality control coach, Reid was promoted to assistant defensive line coach. He then spent three seasons as the defensive line coach before shifting to outside linebackers for the past two seasons.

His father refused to say the traffic accident near Arrowhead Stadium last week had anything to do with the outcome of the Super Bowl.

A vehicle had run out of gas on a highway entrance ramp and another vehicle had parked nearby to assist when the younger Reid’s pickup truck struck the left front of the first car before hitting the rear of the second car.Britt Reid told police he had “two or three drinks” and had a prescription for Adderall when the accident occurred, according to a search warrant filed late Thursday night.&nbsp;Britt Reid has been in legal trouble several times.He was arrested in January 2007 in Pennsylvania a road-rage incident in which he pointed a gun at another driver, and he was sentenced to up to 23 months in jail and five years of probation after pleading guilty to charges of carrying an unlicensed firearm, simple assault, possession of a controlled substance and possession of an instrument of crime.Seven months later, Reid was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to up to six months in jail.Reid appeared to get his life on track, beginning his coaching career as an intern for his father with the Eagles in 2009. He spent the next two years as a graduate assistant at Temple, his alma mater, before joining the staff in Kansas City.After two seasons as a defensive quality control coach, Reid was promoted to assistant defensive line coach. He then spent three seasons as the defensive line coach before shifting to outside linebackers for the past two seasons.His father refused to say the traffic accident near Arrowhead Stadium last week had anything to do with the outcome of the Super Bowl.

Liberal High School on Monday announced that alumnus Kerri
 Miles has been named the Activities Director, beginning the 2021-2022 
school year.&nbsp; Miles has served as Assistant Activities Director at LHS 
his past year and has served in various roles in the district since he 
started in 2013 including sixth grade teacher, physical education 
teacher, and academic advisor.

“Mr. Miles has been an asset to Liberal High School the 
past three years in the roles that he has served.&nbsp; He builds strong 
relationships with students and colleagues, leads by example, and 
communicates effectively.&nbsp; He carries himself in a professional manner, 
and he has a work ethic that is second to none.&nbsp; Most importantly, he 
takes tremendous pride in being a Liberal Redskin and is passionate 
about instilling that same pride in the students, staff, and community,”
 said Ashley Kappelmann, principal of Liberal High School.

Miles and his wife Danica have three children (Emmalee, 
Aubree, and Braxden) and another due in mid-February.&nbsp; In addition to 
being a 2005 LHS graduate, Miles holds an associates degree from Seward 
County Community College, a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State 
University, and a master’s degree from Fort Hays State University.

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to lead the 
Liberal High School activities program. I look forward to working with 
all stakeholders to fulfill the mission of Liberal through activities. I
 believe we have a unified vision at LHS and with the support from the 
community we will elevate Liberal activities to new heights. I also look

Fort Hays State alum named AD at Liberal High

Charlotte, NC (AP) — Marty Schottenheimer, who won 200 regular-season games with four NFL teams thanks to his “Martyball” brand of smash-mouth football but regularly fell short in the playoffs, has died. He was 77. Family friend Bob Moore says Schottenheimer died late Monday night at a hospice in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014. He was moved to a hospice on Jan. 30. Schottenheimer was the eighth-winningest coach in NFL history. 

He went 200-126-1 in 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers.

The Chiefs named Schottenheimer head coach on January 24, 1989. He won 101 games and lost 58 during his ten seasons in Kansas City.

His success was rooted in “Martyball,” a conservative approach that featured a strong running game and tough defense.

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarch boys and girls basketball
teams earned a doubleheader sweep of the Oakley Plainsmen in a pair of makeup
games Monday night at Al Billinger Fieldhouse.

The Lady Monarchs jumped out to a 10-0 first quarter lead
and then outscored Oakley 13-4 to open the second half on their way to a 53-34
win Friday.

TMP senior Kyleigh Allen scored the first four points of the
game for TMP (12-3, 6-1 MCL) and then Sophia Balthazor and Jaci VonLintel hit
back-to-back three pointers as TMP raced out to a 10-0 lead. 

They led by 10 again at 12-2 before Oakley (7-10, 2-6 MCL)
cut the lead in half at 12-6. TMP led 14-8 through the first quarter.

In the second quarter Oakley outscored TMP 16-10 and trimmed
the deficit to just two twice, the last time at 24-22 at halftime.

The second half though would belong to TMP. The Monarchs
outscored Oakley 29-14 in the second half.

TMP opened the third quarter on a 15-6 run. Balthazor hit a
pair of three pointers and Allen added five points and VonLintel four points in
the quarter. TMP led at that point 39-28. 

Oakley was able to cut the TMP lead back to single digits at
nine, at 39-30 through three quarter.

But in the fourth quarter TMP scored 10 straight to open the
quarter and outscored Oakley 14-4 in the final period.

TMP’s Jaci VonLintel led three Monarchs in doublefigures
with 14 points. Kyleigh Allen, the lone TMP senior, added 12 points and Sophia
Balthazor chipped in 11.

TMP’s Lucas Lang opened the game four-of-four from three and
finished with 17 first quarter points in what would be a preview of things to come
as the Monarchs (12-4, 6-1 MCL) make 17 three-pointers and cruise to 90-30 win.

Lang converted on five first quarter three pointers, Jackson
Schulte added five points and Dylan Werth four as TMP led 30-10 through one quarter
of play.

Schulte scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the second
quarter as the Monarchs outscored Oakley 23-8 in the second quarter.

Oakley (7-8, 4-5 MCL) cut TMP’s lead to 57-24 to open the
second half but the Monarchs answered with a 24-2 run to end the third quarter
taking an 81-26 lead into the final frame.

With the continue clock TMP added two more three pointers giving
them 17 as a team in the 90-30 win.

Schulte scored a game-high 24 points for TMP on senior
night. Follow seniors, Lucas Lang added 17, Trenton Rome added 13 points and
Hayden Brown chipped in 7 points.

The TMP-Marian Monarchs travel to Russell Tuesday for their
first ever meeting as MCL members.

Christian Braun added 15 points, Jalen Wilson had 11 and Ochai Agbaji 10 for the Jayhawks (13-7, 7-5 Big 12), who climbed to No. 3 early in the season but had lost five of their last seven to fall out of the poll for the first time since Feb. 2, 2009.

Perhaps that compelled Kansas to play like a ranked team for the first time in months.

The Jayhawks forced Oklahoma State star Cade Cunningham into committing seven turnovers while committing four fouls, and the Cowboys (12-6, 5-6) finished with 18 turnovers as a team in a haphazard effort on both ends of the floor.

Cunningham finished with 26 points, but was just 7 of 18 from the field, and fellow freshman Avery Anderson III had 13 points but also committed four turnovers, as the Cowboys allowed a 28-25 game at the break to get away from them.

Early on, the Jayhawks looked like a team deserving of their ranking — or lack thereof — when they missed 13 of their first 15 field-goal attempts and had as many turnovers (five) as points through the first eight minutes of the game.

Somehow they manage to scratch out that meager halftime lead.

That’s because the Cowboys were even worse on offense. Cunningham had four of their 12 first-half turnovers, they went 1 of 8 from beyond the arc and failed to score a single second-chance point despite hanging tough on the boards.

McCormack, who poured in 24 points when the teams met last month in Stillwater, was 1-for-7 shooting in the first half. But the 6-foot-11 forward began to assert himself against center-less Oklahoma State in the second half, scoring an array of lay-ins and baby hooks to push the Jayhawks to their biggest lead at 41-32 with 15 minutes to go.

The Cowboys got within four before Kansas solved their zone defense.

McCormack was the linchpin of that effort, too. The Jayhawks kept getting him the ball in the middle, forcing the Cowboys to collapse and leaving the big man open. It was 58-52 when McCormack fed Wilson for an easy bucket, then he added a put-back of his own a couple minutes later to make it 65-55 with 4 minutes left.

The Jayhawks managed to hold Oklahoma State off the rest of the way.

Oklahoma State was 7 of 26 from beyond the arc, often settling for outside shots rather than going to the rim — where the Cowboys routinely drew fouls. In fact, Cunningham had eight of his points at the free-throw line.

Kansas won the game with its defense. On the other end, the Jayhawks committed 19 turnovers of their own, and the only efficient production they got came from McCormack in the post. They were 5 of 15 from beyond the 3-point line, and that included a shot clock-beating heave by Braun in the final minute.

The Cowboys play Kansas State on Saturday.

The Jayhawks welcome Iowa State on Thursday night.

HAYS - The 11th-ranked Fort Hays State women overcame a sluggish first half to beat Missouri Western State 58-49 Monday night in a makeup game at Gross Coliseum. The Tigers (14-2, 14-2 MIAA) extend their winning streak to nine and move into a three-way tie for first in the MIAA with Nebraska-Kearney and Central Missouri.

After scoring only 20 points in the first half in building a four-point halftime lead, the Tigers scored 26 in third and stretched the lead to 14 on several occasions before settling for a 46-34 lead heading to the fourth.

The Griffions (3-11, 3-11 MIAA) scored the first five of the final period and closed within seven but would get no closer as they lose for the 10th time in their last 11 games.

MWSU outrebounded the Tigers by 11 and had 22 offensive rebounds. Fort Hays State also turned the ball over 17 times.

Whitney Randall led all scoring with 23 points and made three of the Tigers six 3-pointers. Olivia Hollenbeck added 15 points while Katie Wagner pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Asia McCoy led the Griffons with nine points.

FHSU continues their busy stretch of five games in 10 days Thursday at Rogers State.
