DODGE CITY - The Victoria volleyball team went 2-1 in pool play Friday and advanced to the Class 1A Division I state tournament semifinals. The fifth-seeded Knights (31-6) will play No. 6 seed Spearville (35-7) Saturday at 9:00 a.m. No. 3 seed Centralia (37-6) gets the top-seeded Pretty Prairie (4-5) in the other semifinal.
In their first match of the morning, Victoria defeated Downs-Lakeside 26-24, 27-25 in the battle of the Knights. They lost to top-seeded Pretty Prairie 25-20, 25-8 but came back to defeat the No. 8 seed Rawlins County 26-24, 25-16.
Downs-Lakeside and Pretty Prairie also finished 2-1 in pool play with Down-Lakeside defeating the Bulldogs 23-25, 25-18, 29-27 in the final match of the day.
The first place spot in the semifinals was based on percentage of sets won, with Pretty Prairie winning five of seven to get the top spot. The second spot was then determined by Victoria's head-to-head win over Lakeside.
