KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Nolan Arenado homered for the third straight game, Tyler O’Neill hit one right after him and the St. Louis Cardinals completed an in-state sweep of the Kansas City Royals 7-2 on Sunday.

In the second inning, Arenado and O’Neill hit back-to-back homers for the second time in three games.

Arenado’s was a two-run blast for his 25th, and O’Neill powered his 432 feet over the center field wall for his 20th and a seven-run lead.

“They mirror each other,” Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said. “Tyler has a great skillset with his power and is using the whole field. He’s not trying to do too much, and he’s productive in many ways.”

The 30-year-old Arenado went 5 for 12 with three home runs, nine RBI and four runs in the series.

"Those contributions in the middle of the lineup are huge,” Shildt said.

St. Louis batted around in the first inning and scored three times. Arenado had an RBI single, and José Rondón hit a two-run double to push the Cardinals' lead to 3-0.

J.A. Happ (7-6) faced the Royals for the fourth time this season. This start was his best of them all.

He went 5.2 innings and allowed no runs, five hits, two walks and struck out two. It was the second time this season he didn’t allow a run in a start. Cardinals starting pitchers gave up just one earned run over 17.1 innings in the series.

“New surroundings and atmosphere can help sometimes,” Happ said. “We scored some runs early and relief did a great job. It was a nice win today.”

Kris Bubic (3-6) went 1.1 innings allowing seven runs, nine hits, one walk and struck out one. It was the shortest start of his career and most runs given up.

Kansas City’s bullpen threw 7.2 shutout innings allowing just three hits in relief of Bubic.

“We’ll go pitch-by-pitch with him on this start,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said. “The whole 'pen pitched well. That’s incredible especially with the workload they’ve had.”

Salvador Perez hit his 30th homer of the season in the eighth inning to put the Royals on the scoreboard. He hit it 450 feet into the left-field fountains, which also marked his 400th career extra-base hit.

The Cardinals outscored the Royals 22-6 in the three-game set and have won six in a row and eight of their last nine games. Kansas City has lost four in a row and five of the last six.

The Cardinals have a day off before returning home against Milwaukee while Kansas City continues its homestand tomorrow night against Houston.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — With one deep strike, Trey Lance showed why the San Francisco 49ers invested so heavily to draft him this offseason. With a few shakier moments in his preseason debut, Lance showed why the Niners aren't rushing to make him their starter.

Lance threw&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/49ers/status/1426711798498004992?s=20">an 80-yard touchdown pass&nbsp;</a>that led to loud cheers from San Francisco fans, and also showed some rookie traits in his preseason debut during the 49ers' 19-16 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday night.

“It was fun," Lance said. “Obviously left a lot of big plays out there. I wish I would have taken advantage of the opportunities that were given a few times. ... But it’s awesome to be out there playing again.”

The Niners traded three first-round picks to draft Lance third overall in April to be their quarterback of the future. But they also still have incumbent Jimmy Garoppolo, so how soon that future comes remains to be seen.

Lance had an up-and-down first performance with a few off-target throws, three sharp passes that were dropped by his receivers, and four sacks behind a spotty offensive line.

But he also delivered that perfectly placed deep pass.

“There was some good and some bad,” coach Kyle Shanahan said. “By no means was it perfect. Good first day. I didn’t want it to go perfect for him.”

Chad Henne threw a TD pass to Byron Pringle after a short cameo by Patrick Mahomes to begin the game, and rookie Shane Buechele scored on a 1-yard keeper with 1:14 to play to win it for Kansas City.

On the first play of his second possession, Lance faked a handoff and rolled to his left on a staple play in Shanahan's offense. With Brandon Aiyuk open in front of him, Lance stopped on the hash mark and threw a strike nearly 40 yards downfield to the right side of the field for the TD pass to Trent Sherfield.

“Being able to play with Trey is an amazing thing,” Sherfield said. “He’s a real phenom. He’s going to be really, really good in this league.”

That was the only TD for San Francisco in Lance's eight drives. He also led the Niners to one field goal and got them out of the shadow of their goal posts with a&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/49ers/status/1426718006713798656?s=20">34-yard pass to Charlie Woerner&nbsp;</a>from his end zone.

Lance even got two opportunities late in the half to run the two-minute offense, but had little success. San Francisco managed just one first down on the two possessions and Lance nearly threw an interception to Rashad Fenton.

Lance finished 5 of 14 for 128 yards and the one TD and didn't run the ball once despite excelling at that in college at North Dakota State.

Garoppolo went 3 for 3 for 26 yards on his one drive that ended in a punt.

The Niners held out 22 players, including nearly their entire starting defense, along with tight end George Kittle, running back Raheem Mostert, fullback Kyle Juszczyk and offensive linemen Trent Williams and Alex Mack.

Kansas City took a different approach, with only one starter held out in linebacker Willie Gay.

Chiefs LB Darius Harris left with a hand injury and didn't return. ... Niners rookie Aaron Banks left with an injured shoulder. ... San Francisco rookie RB Elijah Mitchell didn't dress for the game because of a hip injury that will likely sideline him for a couple of weeks.

Patrick Mahomes played one series behind Kansas City's overhauled offensive line that features five new starters from last season, including three players who have never suited up for an NFL game.

St. Louis broke it open when it scored four times with two out in the seventh. Goldschmidt hit a two-run single before Arenado went deep, sending a drive to left for his 24th homer.

Jon Lester (4-6) got his first win since he was acquired in a trade with Washington on July 30. The left-hander permitted one run and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.

The 37-year-old Lester went 1-3 with a 6.04 ERA in his previous six starts.

Kansas City right-hander Brad Keller (7-12) allowed four runs, three earned, and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.

The Cardinals put it away with three runs in the ninth against Greg Holland. Goldschmidt drove in Harrison Bader with a sacrifice fly, and Arenado added a two-run double.

The Royals started the scoring in the fourth when Michael A. Taylor singled in Andrew Benintendi. It was the first run for Kansas City in 16 innings.

The Cardinals responded with two in the fifth, capitalizing on an error by third baseman Emmanuel Rivera. Edman hit a two-run single.

Kansas City's Whit Merrifield played in his 422nd consecutive game, breaking the franchise record previously held by Alcides Escobar. It’s the longest active streak in major league baseball, and he has played six different positions in that stretch.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jack Flaherty pitched six innings of two-hit ball in his return from an oblique injury, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Kansas City Royals 6-0 on Friday night.

Nolan Arenado hit his 23rd homer for St. Louis, which earned its fourth straight win. Tyler O'Neill and Lars Nootbaar also connected.

Flaherty (9-1) struck out five and walked none in his first big league start since May 31. T.J. McFarland then got six outs, Giovanny Gallegos worked the eighth and Ryan Helsley finished the five-hitter.

"Expectations are always high, and he was tremendous tonight," Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said. "Jack was in control and he hit right where we wanted with his pitch count. It was a perfect outing and we're glad he's back."

The 25-year-old Flaherty had been sidelined by a left oblique strain.

"I just didn't try to do too much tonight," Flaherty said. "Once I got that first strike in there everything felt normal. I missed competing with these guys and being a part of the team was what I missed the most."

Arenado and O'Neill hit back-to-back homers in the fourth. It was No. 19 for O'Neill.

Arenado drove in Tommy Edman with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and the Cardinals added two more in the eighth against Wade Davis. Yadier Molina had a run-scoring single, and Paul DeJong tacked on a sacrifice fly.

Rogers State goes into the season as the unanimous top choice of coaches around the conference, receiving all six first-place votes possible, while Fort Hays State picked up the other first-place vote available. Rogers State topped the standings in an abbreviated spring competition season in 2020-21 and won the four-team post-season tournament that followed the short six-game conference slate. In 2019, Fort Hays State was the GAC/MIAA regular season champion, topping a 14-game conference standings race, then fell to Rogers State on penalty kicks in the GAC Tournament Championship game that season. With a full slate of games lined up for the teams in the fall of 2021 following the COVID-19 altered season, the teams will play a 12-game conference schedule this year playing each team home and away. The conference lost Oklahoma Baptist, which discontinued its men's soccer program in 2020. The preseason poll is pretty much a carbon copy of the standings for the abbreviated 2020-21 season. ⚽FHSU Men’s Soccer Picked Second in GAC Preseason Poll

&nbsp; AUSTIN, Texas - Fort Hays State men's track and field junior pole vaulter&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5931">Ryan Stanley</a>&nbsp;was named a CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team selection in Track and Field/Cross Country, announced Wednesday (Aug. 11) by the organization.&nbsp;Stanley was one of 15 men's student-athletes named to the first team and one of 45 overall to receive the Academic All-America distinction from CoSIDA in 2020-21. Stanley, native of Bennington, Kansas, holds a 3.97 GPA as a Management major at FHSU. This is his first time receiving Academic All-America status from CoSIDA. He is also a three-time recipient of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Award and a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Holding a perfect 4.0 GPA over his first two years at FHSU, he twice received the MIAA Academic Excellence Award. He also earned MIAA Scholar-Athlete honors in 2021 for securing All-MIAA honors and holding at least a 3.5 GPA. Stanley is one of the elite performers in NCAA Division II in track and field. He was the NCAA Division II National Champion during the 2021 outdoor season in the pole vault. He cleared a new school record 17 feet, 2.75 inches to tie for first place. He then cleared the height again to win a jump off for the national title against Trivett Jones of Angelo State (Texas). Stanley is now a four-time All-America performer produced two of the four this past academic year. He is a two-time All-America performer in the pole vault both indoor and outdoor. He is also a four-time USTFCCCA All-Region performer going back to 2019. Stanley set new FHSU records in the pole vault both outdoor and indoor (16 feet, 11.5 inches) in 2021. Stanley is the first CoSIDA Academic All-America selection for track and field/cross country at Fort Hays State since pole vaulter Brady Tien earned the honor in 2015. WICHITA – The Hays Larks run at an elusive NBC World Series
title came up short after an 11-1 loss to the Cheney Diamond Dawgs in Thursday’s
semifinals at Riverfront Stadium. Cheney scored four runs in the third then
added three in the fifth and four in the seventh for the seven inning run-rule
win.

Wichita State senior transfer Spencer Hynes, who was one of
two new pitchers added to the Diamond Dawgs roster this week after two of their
players were shut down by their college coaches, held the Larks hitless for the
first four innings. Hynes allowed one run on two hits over six innings with
eight strikeouts and three walks for the win.

Larks starter Tyler Palmer suffered the loss after giving up
three runs on two hits over 2 2/3 innings. Palmer worked out of a bases-loaded
jam in the first but ran into trouble in the third when Andrew Brautman tripled
and scored on a throwing error by catcher Brady Evans on a stolen base attempt.
A sacrifice fly drove in the second run and drove Palmer from the game. Dylan
Dreiling entered and gave up a two-run homer to Ryan Koval.

George Specht hit a three-run blast off of Dreiling in the fifth
top push the lead to 7-0.

The Larks tallied their only run in the bottom of the fifth.
Palmer Hutchison reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on Leo Jiminian’s
double to left.

The Diamond Dawgs, who have lost in the last two NBC WS
title games, took advantage of six walks, three hit batters and three Larks
errors.

The Larks (32-8) had hit a NBC best .376 through their first
four games but were held to three hits.

Hays is now 0-3 against Cheney at the NBC World Series. The
Diamond Dawgs won 2-1 last year and 7-3 in 2017.

Cheney will now play the Lonestar Baseball Club out of Texas
in Friday’s semifinals. Lonestar lost 8-0 in seven innings to defending champion
Santa Barbara in Thursday’s first game.

COLBY — Former Colby Community College two-time NJCAA All-American wrestler Bekzod Abdurakhmonov won a bronze medal for his home country of Uzbekistan Thursday at the Tokyo Olympics. At 74 kilograms, Abdurakhmonov topped two-seed Daniyar Kaisano of Kazakhstan in a 13-2 decision.

It was Abdurakhmonov's second chance at Olympic bronze after falling short at the 2016 Rio Games. He beat former gold medalist Jordan Burroughs of the United States, 11-1, but lost in the medal match to Jabrayil Hasanov of Azerbaijan.

Abdurakhmonov attended CCC from 2008 to 2010. He grew up in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, before arriving in Colby to compete under Hall of Fame coach Steve Lampe. Abdurakhmonov had an 84-8 record on his way to two NJCAA runner-up finishes. After graduating, he transferred to Clarion University and went 38-12 his senior year while earning All-American honors.

Abdurakhmonov has performed well on the big stage for several years. He claimed gold at the 2014 Asian Freestyle Wrestling Championships and bronze at the 2014 World Freestyle Wrestling Championships. After his appearance in the 2016 Olympics, he returned to the Asian Wrestling Championships in 2017 and won gold again.

Lampe said he's not surprised by his success.

"For 10 years, Bekzod has been a world-level contender internationally," he said. "He was always a team leader."

In 2019, Abdurakhmonov and his brother, two-time NJCAA national champion and Division I All-American Muzzafar Abdurakhmanov, were inducted into the CCC Hall of Fame.

"I am very proud to have had the honor to coach such great people and student-athletes. They are unquestionably exceptional in every regard. I'm just glad that I had the opportunity to be their coach and the guy who helped get them started on their successful careers," Lampe said.

and Cade Brown and Wyatt Divis combined on a five-hitter to lead the Hays Larks
to an 8-1 victory over the Seattle Studs late Wednesday night at the NBC World
Series at Riverfront Stadium. The Larks (32-7) win their first game in the
losers bracket and advanced to Wednesday’s quarterfinals where they will plat the
Cheney Diamond Dawgs in the late game around 8:30 p.m.

Cheney advanced with a 10-8 victory over Sunflower League rival
Great Bend in Wednesday’s first game.

Schmidt gave the Larks all of the offense they would need
with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first after Cortland Lawson singled
and Wyatt Divis walked.

The Studs (30-18) scored a run in the top of the second but
left the bases loaded when Kade Brown struck out Kyle Strash to end the inning.
Seattle would have only three baserunners the rest of the game and only one
advanced past first base.

Brady Evans opened the bottom of the second with a double
and scored on Zach Henry’s bunt.

Hays added some insurance with three in the sixth then another
run in the seventh. Palmer Hutchinson opened the sixth with a walk then Brady
Evans was hit by a pitch. After Seattle made a pitching change, Leo Jiminian
laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Matt Cavanagh then singled

Wyatt Divis (6-1) pitched the final 4 1/3 innings and picked
up the win. He retired 12 straight before issuing a two-out walk in the top of
the ninth, but got a popup to end the game. Divis struck out four and walked
just the one and didn’t give up a hit.

Starter Cade Brown went 4 2/3 innings and allowed one run on
five hits with four strikeouts and two walks before leaving with arm
discomfort.

Lawson, Schmidt and Evans all had two hits. Schmidt drove in
three runs while Matt Cavanagh had two RBIs.

The NBC World Series in down to four teams. Defending champion Santa Barbara will play Lonestar Baseball out of Texas in a battle of the unbeatens at 6:00 p.m. Thursday followed by the Larks and Cheney Diamond Dawgs.

“There were a lot of good things happening today,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “Obviously, all the bullpen guys came up big for us. To throw a three-spot in the first was huge.

“Overall, we didn’t play very well today, and we’re fortunate to get out of here with another win.”

Brady Singer (3-8) took the loss. He allowed five runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings.

“It was one of those starts where he wasn’t sharp,” Kansas City manager Mike Matheny said. “He couldn’t locate the fastball. He had pretty good movement, but his slider didn’t have the bite he wanted. He was in a mess every single inning.”

Yankees left-hander Lucas Luetge made his first career start after making 152 career appearances as a reliever. He allowed one run on two hits in two innings. According to Elias, Luetge was just the sixth pitcher in franchise history to make his first start after making at least 152 appearances out of the bullpen.

“It was definitely different,” Luetge said. “I had to change my whole routine from what I was used to. It was a little nerve-wracking. It was something we knew was coming with a bullpen day. I knew when I didn’t pitch last night it was a possibility, so I was a little prepared for it.”

Voit’s two-run single capped the three-run first. Singer walked D.J. LeMahieu leading off. With one out, Aaron Judge singled and Joey Gallo walked. After Voit singled in LeMahieu and Judge, Rougned Odor singled in Gallo.

The Royals answered with one in the bottom of the first. Whit Merrifield led off with a single, then had his major league-leading 33rd stolen base. He went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout by Salvador Perez.

Merrifield tied the Royals’ record with his 33rd consecutive steal (Carlos Beltran, 1999-2001). Merrifield was caught stealing on his first attempt this season and hadn’t been caught since. The streak was snapped in the seventh when he over-slid second.

The Yankees lead the majors with 22 stolen bases since the All Star break, including two Wednesday from Tyler Wade.

“It’s definitely a different dynamic,” Boone said about the team’s baserunning. “It’s a different element at times we haven’t had. We try to take advantage and (Wade) has done a really good job of that.”

⚾ Singer struggles in return from IL as Royals fall to Yankees

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Kansas high school sports fans ejected due to interactions with officials will be suspended for the next game at that level, per a new rule adopted by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.

Fans cannot attend games at any level until the suspension is served. For example, if the suspension happened at a varsity game, they could not attend a JV game until after the next varsity game.

The suspension cannot be appealed. KSHSAA adds their board reviews all ejection reports.

Under the rule, schools can add additional sanctions on top of the suspension.

KSHSAA will keep its current requirement for ejected in students and coaches in place. Currently, ejected students must complete the NFHS Sportsmanship course, while coaches are required to take the NFHS Teaching and Modeling Behavior course before being reinstated.

Any participant (player, coach, spectator) who is ejected for making contact with an official or who is ejected for unsporting behavior directed toward an official, shall be subject to a nonappealable suspension from the next contest at that level and for all contests at any level (in that activity) until the suspension has been served. Local school Leadership may levy additional sanctions as they deem appropriate. The KSHSAA staff reviews all ejection reports.

'A Conversation with Bob Davis' set to air on Smoky Hills PBS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Salvador Perez homered twice to set a career high with 29 this season, and the Kansas City Royals rallied to beat the New York Yankees 8-4 on Tuesday night.

Perez put the Royals ahead with a two-run blast in the first inning estimated at 418 feet, and he tied the game at 4 leading off the sixth. It was the fourth multi-homer game this season and 10th of his career for Perez, who marked the 10th anniversary of his major league debut.

“Tonight was amazing, especially because we won the game,” Perez said. “That’s the most important thing.

“The 10 years have gone quickly. It was a dream come true to play in the big leagues. Hopefully I can stay here and play for another 10 years.”

A night earlier, the Royals became the first team since 1900 to erase a deficit in the seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th innings before falling to New York in 11. This time, Kansas City pushed ahead and stayed there following Perez's tying homer off Nestor Cortes (0-1). Later in the sixth, Hunter Dozier doubled against Stephen Ridings to score Emmanuel Rivera from first.

“Obviously Salvy (Perez) got (Cortes) a couple of times for big blows,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “We had some mistakes in the strike zone and they made us pay. Overall, we didn’t play our best tonight.”

The Royals played small ball to extend their lead. Michael A. Taylor led off the seventh with a double. Hanser Alberto put down a sacrifice bunt, and Taylor scored on a throwing error by Ridings. Alberto scored on a safety squeeze by Nicky Lopez.

Alberto added a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

“We went about it a little differently. It was a lot of the things we talk so much about, the situational hitting. It’s a shame the game doesn’t appreciate those plays as much as it should,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said. “I thought today was one of our better ballgames all the way around, being the type of team the Kansas City Royals are.”

Reliever Josh Staumont (2-2) retired all four batters he faced, striking out three, one of five Kansas City pitchers who held New York to five hits.

Kyle Higashioka hit a two-run homer for the Yankees, who have lost two of three following a five-game winning streak. New York is trying to chase down Tampa Bay and slumping Boston in the AL East and Boston and Oakland in the wild-card race.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Drew Lock will start the Broncos' exhibition opener, not because of anything he's done at training camp, but because he's been in Denver longer than Teddy Bridgewater.

Coach Vic Fangio said Tuesday that Lock will start at Minnesota on Saturday night following a pair of joint practices with the Vikings and Bridgewater will start the following weekend at Seattle.

Asked why he's giving Lock the start in Minneapolis, Fangio said, "the same reason we gave him the first team snap in the first practice. No big deal.”

Fangio gave Lock the first snaps last month because he's the incumbent, having spent two seasons in Denver.

Bridgewater was acquired from Carolina in April.

Fangio told a gathering of reporters, many of whom just got back from the Hall of Fame inductions of Peyton Manning, John Lynch and Steve Atwater, that “not much has changed” in the quarterback competition “since you left.”

“It's even-Steven, not much separation,” Fangio said in what has become a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/sports-nfl-denver-broncos-314fa879812fe19d5eebd85b39d263f3">familiar refrain</a>.

While fans might not like that, Fangio said he views it as a positive: “I have confidence in both those guys, I really do.”

Although practicing against the Vikings this week should provide more clarity at quarterback, Fangio said, “Ultimately, the decision will be an examination of everything, really, from the start of training camp to the day we make the decision.”

Before flying out to Minneapolis, Fangio said several members from each team will meet before the first workout Wednesday to talk about what they want to get out of the joint practices, which oftentimes produce hot tempers.

“Instead of having 90 teammates here, there's 180 teammates, OK? We're all teammates for those two practices," Fangio said. "We're just working against each other.

“It's tremendous work if everybody has the right attitude and the right mindset, and we do. I'm happy to do it with Mike Zimmer, I know he'll run a good operation up there," Fangio added. "You always have to be careful who you pick, the teams, to work against and I think Minnesota is a great team to work against.”

Also Tuesday, the Broncos named their season-long diversity coaching fellowship after&nbsp;<a href="https://www.denverbroncos.com/news/broncos-name-marlin-briscoe-diversity-coaching-fellowship">Marlin Briscoe</a>&nbsp;to honor his groundbreaking contributions to the franchise and modern pro football.

In 1968, Briscoe became the first Black starting quarterback in the Super Bowl era.

“I think it's great,” Fangio said. “Marlin was here in ‘68. I was only 10 at the time — I should have said 2 — so I don’t remember a lot with my eyes, I've seen some of the tapes and he was quick and fast and elusive, looked like a guy that could still play today even though the game has changed so much.”

Mateo Kambui is the team’s first Marlin Briscoe Diversity Coaching Fellow. Kambui played at Florida A&amp;M and was a graduate assistant at Georgia Southern before his arrival in Denver. With the Broncos, Kambui will break down film, prepare scouting reports and assist the offensive coaching staff.

I was only 10 at the time — I should have said 2 — so I don’t remember a lot with my eyes, I've seen some of the tapes and he was quick and fast and elusive, looked like a guy that could still play today even though the game has changed so much.”Mateo Kambui is the team’s first Marlin Briscoe Diversity Coaching Fellow. Kambui played at Florida A&amp;M and was a graduate assistant at Georgia Southern before his arrival in Denver. With the Broncos, Kambui will break down film, prepare scouting reports and assist the offensive coaching staff.Notes: ILB Bradley Chubb was absent Tuesday for personal reasons.

The Kansas City Chiefs practiced in helmets and shorts at training camp Tuesday before they take a day off Wednesday.

It
 appeared weather was going to perhaps move practice indoors. Gusty 
winds and off-and-on rain persisted throughout most of Tuesday's 
session, but the team stayed outside and fans were eventually let in 
once the worst of the storm had passed.

The team had a 10-10-10 
practice - 10 minutes of offensive plays, 10 minutes of defensive plays,
 followed by 10 minutes of special teams work and repeat.

Only one
 more practice on Thursday stands between the Chiefs and their first 
preseason game at San Francisco, which is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. central.

 coordinator Steve Spagnuolo says his biggest message to the younger 
players going into that game is don’t forget everything you’ve learned 
in training camp."They'll forget all of the leverage and all of 
the things that we've taught them and have gotten really good at," 
Spagnuolo said. "They go out there and all of a sudden in a game, 
sometimes they can go off the radar. So, to me, I tell them to stick to 
the fundamentals and we'll build on it. Don't abort what you've done 
here in the last couple of weeks."One player on the offensive 
side who's excited to showcase what he can do is left tackle and Pro 
Bowler Orlando Brown, Jr. who was acquired by the Chiefs in a trade with
 the Ravens this offseason."I'm just super excited to get out 
there and do my job to the best of my ability," Brown said. "It gives me
 an opportunity to showcase to the fans to the organization and to my 
teammates what they got and I'm super excited to get out there."&nbsp;Brown
 was a three-year starter for the Ravens and started out as a right 
tackle. While he's been learning a more pass-protection heavy offensive 
scheme under Andy Reid, Brown hopes he can set the tone and impress 
people, no matter how many snaps he gets in the first game."I 
don't know how long I'll be out there, but however long it is, I'm going
 to give it my all," said Brown. "So, I just look forward to being able 
to showcase and express all of those different things about my game."Brown
 also gave credit to rookies Trey Smith, Lucas Niang and Creed Humphrey,
 who have been working alongside him in the first-team offensive line 
for the last couple of weeks."For them to do what they're able to is something special," Brown said.The
 Chiefs play at San Francisco on Saturday at 7:30. The game will be 
carried on KFEQ (680 AM, 95.3 FM) and Q Country 92.7 FM in St. Joseph.<h2>Marcus Kemp</h2>The
 fourth-year pro has been impressive at the receiver spot this camp, 
making a number of nice plays with both the first and second-team 
offense.This comes after Kemp missed the entire 2019 season with 
an ACL and MCL injury. He had to fight to stay on the roster in 2020, 
coming on and off the practice squad before resigning with Kansas City 
in March.Going into his fifth season with the Chiefs, Kemp hopes 
that his entire position group can continue to improve as they get 
closer to the season."That's what I'm hoping for," Kemp said. 
"That we can all just do well and that'll pool to the season. Whether 
I'm here or not, it'll help them through the season or me with the 
season. So, it's more about how well we can do personally and less about
 how competitive we can be with each other."Chad Henne, who's 
solidified his spot as top backup to Patrick Mahomes, has developed 
quite a nice chemistry with Kemp over these last two weeks or so."He
 knows the system and knows the right spots and where to be," Henne said
 of Kemp. "He's got a lot of talent. He goes up and gets the ball each 
and every time. I'm thankful he's in with me a lot of times."Kemp
 has also been a contributor in special teams. In fact, special teams 
coach Dave Toub says Kemp is one of their "top gunner" options on kick 
and punt return coverage."If that's what I need to do to get 
better is be out there three hours before the game to work on something 
that I didn't think I was the best at, then that's what I need to do," 
said Kemp. "So, that's what I've continued to do, and at this point, 
(playing special teams) has become a tradition more than anything else."<h2>No new injuries</h2>No
 news is good news. No new injuries to report from Tuesday. Running back
 Darrel Williams returned after missing Monday with a knee injury.Kyle
 Long (knee), Evan Baylis (ankle), Mike Remmers (back), Alex Okafor 
(hamstring), Malik Herring (knee), Antonio Callaway (bone bruise) and 
Willie Gay (concussion protocol) are still in active. Gay did come to 
the field with his helmet, but went straight to the medical tent.The Chiefs return to practice Thursday and then again next Monday. Training camp concludes August 18.<figure>
