Following a three-year varsity career, Hays High senior Roy Moroni will continue his football journey at the same stadium he played home games at. The Indians' starting running back will play for Fort Hays State University. A signing ceremony was held Wednesday, one week following the official decision on national signing day for college football.

Moroni ran for 1,106 yards during his senior season while averaging 7.6 yards per carry. He also scored 17 rushing touchdowns and crossed the goal line on two more touchdowns on receptions.

He ended his career with 1,944 yards and a per carry average of 6.4 yards to go along with 24 total touchdowns.

Moroni was part of an offense that set a school record in total yards and rushing yards along with total points scored.

He holds the fourth best mark for rushing yards in a season, third for season points scored, and fourth in career rushing yards.

Undefeated Gavin Meyers continues to hold down the top spot in Class 5A at 220 pounds. Harley Zimmerman is ranked fourth at 132 and Gavin Nutting sixth at heavyweight.

Meyers is ranked No. 1 in the all-class rankings, Nutting sixth and Zimmerman eighth.

In 4-1A girls,&nbsp;Kaydawn Haag of Ellis is fourth at 143 and Stockton freshman Ashton Hahn is ranked is ranked fourth at 115.

The Hoxie boys continue to hold down the No. 1 team ranking in 3-1A. Norton is second, Plainville third, Phillipsburg fourth, Oakley sixth and Hill City eighth.

Plainville has three ranked wrestlers again this week. Logan Normandin is third at 132, Ben Hansen second at 182 and Draxtin Hovis sixth at 220.

Hill City also has three ranked. Carter Underhill is fifth at 106, Conner Dinkel sixth at 182 and Thayn Walt fourth at 285.

The match was originally scheduled for February 3rd but had to be rescheduled due to weather.

🏀 Tuesday's prep results

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs boys and girls basketball
teams picked up a pair of big wins over their longtime rivals Russell Tuesday
at Al Billinger Fieldhouse in Hays.

Girls: TMP 73, Russel 33 The TMP Lady Monarchs used a 19-5 run to open the second
quarter and four players scored in double-figures as they claimed their 13th
straight win Tuesday, 73-33 against the Russell Broncos.

TMP (14-2, 8-0 MCL) rushed out to a 6-0 start to the game before Russell
answered with back-to-back field goals to cut the TMP lead to two. Emilee Lane
answered with the first of her three three-pointers that sparked a 12-4 run to
put TMP up 18-8. After a pair of Russell (9-8, 5-3) free throws the Monarchs led 18-10
after the first quarter.

Jaci VonLintel scored the first five points of the second
quarter leading TMP on a 19-5 run to start the second quarter as the Monarchs
built a 37-15 lead.

Leading by 20 at the end of the third quarter TMP strung together
a 24-0 run to go up 63-19 and cruised the rest of the way to a 73-33 win.

Emilee Lane led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed nine
rebounds. Sophia Balthazor hit three three-pointers and finished with 17
points. Jaci VonLintel added 15 points and Kassidi Yost scored a career-high 13
points.

Boys: TMP 59, Russell 42 The TMP boys ran their win streak to three games in a
Russell Tuesday with a 59-42 win over the Broncos.

Russell’s Jackson Cross scored nine first quarter points as the
Broncos (9-7, 3-4 MCL) built a five-point lead at 11-6. The Monarchs (12-3, 7-0 MCL) scored the final five
points of the first quarter capped off with a Kade Harris three-pointer.

A Cross free throw put Russell back up by one at 12-11 to
start the second quarter but with six minutes left in the second quarter Kenton
Ginther hit his first of seven three’s to put TMP up 14-12, a lead they would
never surrender.

Ginter drained three three-pointers in the second quarter as
the Monarchs outscored Russell 19-10 in the second quarter and led 29-21 at
halftime.

TMP held Russell to just four third quarter field goals
while the Monarchs outscored the Broncos 22-9 to build a 51-30 lead heading
into the fourth quarter.

Russell scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter
but TMP was able to secure the 59-42 victory.

Kenton Ginther’s career-high 21 points paced the Monarchs. Jace
Wentling added 15 points and Dylan Werth finished with 10 points.

The Monarchs host the Phillipsburg Panthers on Friday at Al
Billinger Fieldhouse.

🏀 Tiger women fourth in both national polls

Fort Hays State Men's Basketball continues to receive votes in the NABC Top 25 Poll. The Tigers received four votes in the latest edition released on Tuesday (Feb. 8), the fourth-highest listed team among those receiving votes outside the Top 25. This is the second-straight week and sixth time overall this season the Tigers have been among the receiving votes list in the NABC Top 25 Poll. The Central Region remains stacked with five teams inside the Top 25 Poll. Northwest Missouri State is the highest ranked of the bundle at No. 2, followed by Minnesota Duluth at No. 6, Augustana at No. 9, Central Oklahoma at No. 13, and Upper Iowa at No. 19. Fort Hays State and Southeastern Oklahoma State are both among the teams receiving votes. The Tigers has been in the Top 25 of the D2SIDA Poll a couple of times this season, with No. 22 being their highest mark in that poll so far. Fort Hays State Men's Basketball continues to receive votes in the NABC Top 25 Poll. The Tigers received four votes in the latest edition released on Tuesday (Feb. 8), the fourth-highest listed team among those receiving votes outside the Top 25. This is the second-straight week and sixth time overall this season the Tigers have been among the receiving votes list in the NABC Top 25 Poll. The Central Region remains stacked with five teams inside the Top 25 Poll. Northwest Missouri State is the highest ranked of the bundle at No. 2, followed by Minnesota Duluth at No. 6, Augustana at No. 9, Central Oklahoma at No. 13, and Upper Iowa at No. 19. Fort Hays State and Southeastern Oklahoma State are both among the teams receiving votes. The Tigers has been in the Top 25 of the D2SIDA Poll a couple of times this season, with No. 22 being their highest mark in that poll so far. 🏀 Tiger men continue to receive votes in NABC poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State junior pole vaulter&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6513">Ryan Stanley</a>&nbsp;has been named MIAA Field Athlete of the Week for a second week in a row, announced Tuesday by the league office. The defending outdoor national champion broke his own school record at Saturday's Herm Wilson Invitational in Wichita, Kan. (Feb. 5), clearing the 17-1.75 bar. Stanley now sits alone in first place on the NCAA Division II performance chart, breaking a tie with a Central Missouri athlete. After clearing the 16-6 bar to clinch first place, his fourth title of the season, Stanley lifted the bar nearly eight inches to try and break his personal best. The Bennington, Kan. native did just that on his third and final attempt when he cleared a bar over 17 feet for the second time this season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The men picked up a total of 82.13 points in the ratings process thanks to 13 marks that rank in the top 40 this season in Division II.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6513">Ryan Stanley</a>&nbsp;is now the national leader in the pole vault after breaking his own school record Saturday with a clearance of 17-1.75. The Hays High boys hold at No. 3 in Class 5A. In fact no change in the top-10 spots from last week in 5A. Despite their loss to the Indians on Friday, Dodge City remains fourth in the 6A poll. Blue Valley Northwest takes over the top-spot from Lawrence-Free State who drops to second.

Trego jumps up three spots to No. 5 in 2A. Ellinwood is up two to No. 4 and Sacred Heart is in at No. 10.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Timmy Allen scored 24 points and his long jumper from just beyond the free throw line with 21 seconds left put No. 20 Texas ahead before Marcus Carr's free throws sealed a 79-76 win over No. 8 Kansas on Monday night.

Texas, one of the best defensive teams in the country, had to withstand a blistering shooting half from the top-scoring team in the Big 12.

Kansas led 76-72 before the Longhorns' Tre Mitchell, who had missed all five of his 3-point attempts, banked one in to get the Longhorns within one. Kansas then turned it over when Ochai Agbaji’s lob to David McCormack bounced off the front of the rim.

Allen's jumper put Texas ahead before Carr's steal and free throws with 6 seconds left sealed the victory, Texas' third in a row over the Jayhawks. Texas swept Kansas in the regular season last season.

Mitchell scored 17 and Carr finished with 10 points for the Longhorns (18-6, 7-4 Big 12).

Jalen Wilson scored 18 to lead the Jayhawks (19-4, 8-2), who still remain in first place in the Big 12. Agbagi, the leading scorer in the Big 12, finished with 11 points, nearly 10 points below his average.

Texas led 40-35 at halftime on a twisting floater from Andrew Jones before a Jayhawks turnover set up Carr's buzzer-beater 3-pointer. Texas had missed its first 10 long range attempts before Carr swished from the right wing.

Kansas struggled in the first half to find the free-flowing offense that can flip a game in a flash. Texas guard Courtney Ramey didn't score a point in the half, but his lockdown defensive effort on Agbaji held the Jayhawks guard to just seven points on just five shots in the half.

But Kansas kept pecking away and a hot shooting start to the second half — the Jayhawks made nine of their first 12 shots — eventually put them ahead on Josef Yesufu's steal and dunk. Kansas shot 64 % in the second half.

A 3-pointer from Dajuan Harris and a dunk by Christian Braun helped Kansas build a 67-62 lead before Ramey rallied the Longhorns with consecutive layups to keep the Jayhawks from pulling away.

Kansas: The Jayhawks were sloppy with the ball in the first half against Texas' relentless defense and paid for it. Kansas surrendered 24 points on 15 turnovers in the game. The final turnover from Harris as Kansas still had a chance to shoot for the win before Carr's free throws.

Texas: Physical play by Allen, Mitchell and Christian Bishop had Texas hanging with the bigger Jayhawks inside. Allen had nine rebounds and Bishop had 10. Mitchell scored 10 straight points in the first half as the Longhorns rallied from an early 18-11 deficit.

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Fort Hays State started slow and never recovered in a 67-58 loss at Northeastern State on Monday afternoon. The No. 6/5 ranked Tigers moved to 19-3 overall and 13-3 in the MIAA, while the RiverHawks snapped a five-game losing streak and moved to 5-17 overall and 3-13 in the MIAA. Down only one after one quarter, the Tigers saw the RiverHawks go on a 14-3 run to open the second quarter to build a 12-point lead. However, the Tigers were able to trim the lead back to seven by halftime.

The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game for the RiverHawks as they kept the Tigers from building any momentum out of the break. NSU went on to outscore the Tigers 24-11 in the third frame to take a sizable 20-point lead into the fourth quarter. FHSU shot just 26.7 percent from the field and 12.5 percent beyond the 3-point line in the quarter, while NSU countered at 52.6 percent overall and 60 percent beyond the arc in the frame. The Tigers still battled over the final 10 minutes, but the margin was too big to overcome. They scored 11 points off 10 NSU turnovers in the quarter. FHSU cut the lead inside 10 with 4:11 to play, but could never find the finishing surge they needed even though they caused chaos with their full-court pressure. FHSU cut the lead to eight points three times before the final horn and the final margin ended at nine.

Fort Hays State's 16-game winning streak over Northeastern State came to an end. It was the first win for the RiverHawks over the Tigers since the 2013-14 season. All four of the wins for NSU in the all-time series have been in Oklahoma, three in Tahlequah and one in neutral site play in Alva back in 1982. The Tigers finished at just 37.5 percent from the floor for the game, while the RiverHawks finished at 48.8 percent. Both teams hit 21 field goals, but NSU made three more 3-point field goals and six more free throws. First tip is set for 2 p.m. in Tahlequah, Okla. The Tigers (19-2, 13-2 MIAA) have dominated the series with Northeastern State (4-17, 2-13 MIAA) of late, winning the last 16 meetings. It's FHSU's longest active winning streak against an MIAA rival. This year's crop of true freshmen were fifth graders the last time the RiverHawks beat the Tigers (1/18/14). FHSU is 18-5 in the Sooner State under head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1043">Tony Hobson</a>, including wins in each of the last nine games. A win Monday would give the Tigers 200 wins since the start of the 2014-15 season. To date, FHSU is 199-40 since that point (.833 win pct). Northeastern State has lost seven of its nine home games this season. The RiverHawks average 61.7 points per night while allowing 66.5 points per game. Maleeah Langstaff ranks sixth in the league in scoring (17.3 ppg) and is third in rebounds (9.5 rpg).

First tip is set for 2 p.m. in Tahlequah, Okla. The Tigers (19-2, 13-2 MIAA) have dominated the series with Northeastern State (4-17, 2-13 MIAA) of late, winning the last 16 meetings. It's FHSU's longest active winning streak against an MIAA rival. This year's crop of true freshmen were fifth graders the last time the RiverHawks beat the Tigers (1/18/14). All time FHSU is 17-3 against NSU (7-2 on the road), while the Tigers are 17-2 against the RiverHawks under Hobson (7-2 on the road). <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6437">Jaden Hobbs</a>&nbsp;has performed well in all four of her games against the RiverHawks, averaging 17.0 points and 5.0 assists per game while scoring at least 14 points in all four contests. The Tigers outlasted the Rangers 10-8 in a wild first contest, and then came up on the short end of a 4-2 score in game two. Game 1: Fort Hays State 10, Regis 8 Fort Hays State jumped out to a 6-0 lead after an inning and a half, only to see Regis rally back and eventually tie the first contest 7-7 in the fourth. The Tigers took the lead again in the fifth with a single run and then tacked on two in the sixth. EDMOND, Okla. - The No. 6 Fort Hays State women's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and held off a late Central Oklahoma run Saturday afternoon (Feb. 5), beating the Bronchos 75-68 on the road. The Bronchos outshot and outrebounded the Tigers, but Fort Hays State forced 22 UCO turnovers to more than make up the difference. Central Oklahoma scored first but it was all Tigers after that in the first quarter, with FHSU outscoring the Bronchos 19-9 over the opening 10 minutes.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6443">Katie Wagner</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6438">Olivia Hollenbeck</a>&nbsp;combined for 12 points in the opening frame.

The Bronchos opened the second quarter with an 11-4 run to close within three, 23-20. But the Tigers countered with three consecutive 3-pointers in just 51 seconds to go back in front by double digits.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6447">Lauren West</a>&nbsp;buried her second long ball of the game to open the run before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6436">Sydney Golladay</a>&nbsp;turned a steal into a triple. West then sank another shot from behind the arc 30 seconds later off a pass from Wagner, giving the Tigers a 34-23 lead.

After taking a 10-point lead into the locker room, 42-32, the Tigers built the lead as high as 18 by the midway point of the third quarter thanks in part to a season-high fourth 3-pointer from West. But Central Oklahoma responded once again, outscoring the Tigers 12-5 over the final four minutes of the third to close within 11, 61-50. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6437">Jaden Hobbs</a>&nbsp;helped the Tigers break up the rally momentarily with an early 3-pointer in the fourth quarter before the Bronchos closed within two with a 14-2 run. Fort Hays State missed all 11 of their shot attempts during the run, allowing UCO to make it a one-possession game. But the defense came up with big stops down the stretch while Golladay and Hollenbeck hit clutch shots on the offensive end to regain control. The Tigers hit five free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Five Tigers scored in double figures for the third time this season, including a game-high 15 points from Hollenbeck thanks to a 5-of-9 effort from the floor and a 5-of-6 day at the stripe. Hobbs added 14 points and five assists, while Golladay, Wagner and West all scored 12 points. UCO's Kelsey Johnson led the Bronchos with 27 points and 13 rebounds. The Tigers hit 41.3 percent from the floor (26-of-63), compared to a 44.8 percent shooting effort by the Bronchos (26-of-58). UCO outrebounded the Tigers by 19, 44-25, and outscored the Tigers in the paint, 36-26. Fort Hays State, meanwhile, totaled 12 steals and turned the 22 Broncho turnovers into 25 points. UCO managed just four points off 10 Tiger turnovers. Five Tigers scored in double figures for the third time this season, including a game-high 15 points from Hollenbeck thanks to a 5-of-9 effort from the floor and a 5-of-6 day at the stripe. The Tigers clawed their way back into the game late in the first half and briefly enjoyed a couple of leads in the second half, however the Bronchos found a way down the stretch to hit big shots when they needed them and remained unbeaten on their home floor this season. The Bronchos came out of the gate firing on all cylinders and built a 16-point lead, 30-14, about 12 minutes into the game. However, the Tigers battled back and cut the lead all the way down to three just before halftime. The Bronchos took a four-point lead of 42-38 into the locker room.

FHSU scored the first five points of the second half to briefly take a 43-42 lead and the second half was a back-and-forth battle the rest of the way. UCO went on a 6-0 run to take the lead back by five, but then FHSU battled back once again and took a 54-53 lead on a&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6459">Traejon Davis</a>&nbsp;3-point field goal with 13:30 to play. Pack made three 3-pointers and had four steals. Markquis Nowell had 14 points, six rebounds and six assists, and Mike McGuirl hit three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points for Kansas State (12-10, 4-6 Big 12).

Damion Baugh scored 17 points, Francisco Farabello 14 and Emanuel Miller added 13 points and eight rebounds for TCU (15-5, 4-4).

Smith made a layup 95 seconds into the game to make it 4-2 and the Wildcats led the rest of the way. McGuirl hit a 3-pointer to stretch the lead to double figures with 7 minutes left in the first half. Smith made the second of two free throws to give Kansas State a 31-20 advantage about 3 minutes later.

The Horned Frogs used a 17-8 spurt to close the first half and open the second to trim their deficit to 39-37 with 16:58 to play, but McGuirl bookended an 18-5 run with 3-pointers to make it 57-42 midway through the period.

🏀 Pack, Smith help Kansas State beat TCU

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Christian Braun and Ochai Agbaji each scored 18 points and No. 10 Kansas bolted to a big lead and routed No. 8 Baylor 83-59 Saturday to hold the top spot in the Big 12 Conference race.

The Jayhawks (19-3, 8-1) led by as many as 34 points late in the game. This was the first time Kansas had hosted a defending national champion since Dec. 15, 2018, when it beat Villanova 74-71 at Allen Fieldhouse.

“I thought we played pretty solid," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "We rebounded it. Our first-shot defense was good, and our ball-screen defense was excellent. I thought it was a good team outing.”

Baylor (19-4, 7-3) had won nine straight games against Top 10 opponents. But the Bears never got close to extending that streak — after scoring the first basket, they quickly fell behind 12-2 and their deficit kept increasing.

Jalen Wilson scored 15 for Kansas. Braun had 10 rebounds and Agbaji had nine as the Jayhawks grabbed a 46-37 advantage on the boards.

Kansas had lost its previous home game, 80-62 to Kentucky last weekend.

“It was a lot of fun,” Braun said. “We took last Saturday pretty hard. We had to bounce back. We did good job of coming out with more energy than we did last Saturday.”

Adam Flagler had 16 points for Baylor and Kendall Brown added 12.

“Well, that’s not how we envisioned today,” Baylor coach Scott Drew said. “They killed us in transition and second-chance points. We didn’t give our half-court defense a chance.

“It snowballed on us. We haven’t been beaten like that in three or four years. It’s disappointing. It starts with me. You’re not supposed to let things snowball like that as a leader," he said.

Kansas was ahead 21-7 before the second media timeout, stretched the lead to 20 and led 39-21 at halftime. Baylor never got closer than 16 points after the break.

“The job we did on Flagler in the first half was also good,” Self said. “He got loose in the second half a few times. I thought our defense was probably as good as it’s been all year.”

The Jayhawks reached the 1-and-1 bonus with 16:43 left in the game. An offensive foul on Matthew Mayer, after he appeared to be hacked on his way to the basket, was one of the early fouls and drew a technical foul on Drew.

“I’ve been coming up here 19 years,” Drew said. “Some things boil over.”

Baylor: It’s hard to win when you don’t make shots. Baylor shot just 29.6 percent (21 of 71) from the field.

Kansas: The Jayhawks don’t lose back-to-back home games very often. Kansas lost last Saturday at home to Kentucky. The last Kansas team to lose consecutive games at Allen Fieldhouse was in Roy Williams’ first year as head coach, 1988-89.

“I thought we responded pretty well up there after getting it handed to us last Saturday," Self said.

Baylor will stay in the state of Kansas in its next game, taking on Kansas State in Manhattan on Wednesday night.

The Tigers battled hard in every match, but could not find a win within 10 attempts. The Bronchos wrestled seven individually ranked wrestlers including the top-ranked wrestlers at 184 and 197 pounds. The Tigers kept all of the matches from ending early, going the full three periods in all 10.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6603">Cason Lindsey</a>&nbsp;was in a position to potentially win over No. 3 Brik Fillipo at 149, but was unable to escape and fell by 2-0 decision.  </figure>HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays wrestling team fell to No. 1 ranked Central Oklahoma 34-0 in their first home dual on Saturday (Feb. 5) inside Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Tigers battled hard in every match, but could not find a win within 10 attempts. The Bronchos wrestled seven individually ranked wrestlers including the top-ranked wrestlers at 184 and 197 pounds. The Tigers kept all of the matches from ending early, going the full three periods in all 10.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6603">Cason Lindsey</a>&nbsp;was in a position to potentially win over No. 3 Brik Fillipo at 149, but was unable to escape and fell by 2-0 decision. No. 8 ranked&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5807">Marty Verhaeghe</a>&nbsp;and No. 12&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5794">Tereus Henry</a>&nbsp;faced off with the No. 1 wrestler in their respective weight classes and kept the matches within three points as Verhaeghe fell 6-3 to Heath Gray at 184 and Henry fell 3-0 to Dalton Abney at 197. In exhibition matches,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6066">Rhett Edmonson</a>&nbsp;was pinned in 6:18 at 149 pounds and Anthony Caldwell scored a 2-1 win. The Bronchos (11-0, 2-0 MIAA) have a quick turnaround as they head to Kearney to take on the No. 3 ranked Lopers tomorrow (Feb. 6). The Tigers (4-6, 1-1 MIAA) will host Nebraska-Kearney next Friday (Feb. 11) in their final home dual of the season and celebrate the seniors in their final home contests as Tigers.
