HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs scored two more defensive
touchdowns as they picked up their first playoff win since 2002 Friday night in
a 42-18 win over Minneapolis.

It took the Monarchs (7-2) a little bit to get going on Friday night.
Their only two drives in the first quarter showed promise, both reached inside
the Lions’ 40-yardline, but penalties doomed the first one and an inception at
the goal line ended the second one.

With the game tied at zero the Monarchs defense would get
the scoring started. 

After the TMP interception Kenton Ginther tipped a pass at
the 20-yardline and hauled it in and returned the interception for a touchdown,
the first of his career. Ginther also caught the two-point conversion pass to
put TMP up 8-0.

Three plays later Jace Wentling hauled in his sixth career
touchdown and returned for a touchdown, the third of his career on defense, to
put the Monarchs up 15-0 with just over 3:30 to play in the first quarter.

In the last two years TMP has scored eight touchdowns on defense, four this year.

After the defense led the way in the first quarter, the
offense found its rhythm in the second quarter.

Midway through the second-quarter quarterback Kade Harris
hooked up with Mark Rack for a 57-yard touchdown pass giving TMP a 22-0 lead.

A little more than five and a half minutes later the Monarchs
scored again through the air. This time it was Wentling turning in a shallow
crossing route into a 41-yard touchdown putting TMP up 29-0.

The first half came to a bizarre end with a Minneapolis (4-5) player
was called for a person foul and ejected for targeting and as the teams were
leaving the field the Minneapolis coach got an unsportsmanlike penalty. 

As a result of the penalties TMP kicked off from the
Minneapolis 30-yardline.

Minneapolis was forced to punt after starting deep in their
own territory.

The Monarchs wasted no time to get the offense going in the
second half when Andrew Schwartz scored from 19 yards out to put TMP up 36-0
with just over seven minutes left in the third quarter.

Griffin Schumacher added a 19-yard touchdown less than a
minute into the fourth quarter to put up 42-0.

In the second-half of the fourth quarter Minneapolis was
able to score three touchdowns, two throw the air and one on the ground after
the game was well in hand.

Harris was three-for-four for 106 yards passing with two
touchdowns and an interception.

TMP will travel to Hoisington next Friday for a second-round
matchup with the Cardinals.

The Tigers improved to 7-7-3 overall and 4-6 in conference play, while the Lopers fell to 2-15 overall and 1-9 in the MIAA.

DODGE CITY - The Victoria volleyball team went 2-1 in pool play Friday and advanced to the Class 1A Division I state tournament semifinals. The fifth-seeded Knights (31-6) will play No. 6 seed Spearville (35-7) Saturday at 9:00 a.m. No. 3 seed Centralia (37-6) gets the top-seeded Pretty Prairie (4-5) in the other semifinal.

In their first match of the morning, Victoria defeated Downs-Lakeside 26-24, 27-25 in the battle of the Knights. They lost to top-seeded Pretty Prairie 25-20, 25-8 but came back to defeat the No. 8 seed Rawlins County 26-24, 25-16.

Downs-Lakeside and Pretty Prairie also finished 2-1 in pool play with Down-Lakeside defeating the Bulldogs 23-25, 25-18, 29-27 in the final match of the day.

The first place spot in the semifinals was based on percentage of sets won, with Pretty Prairie winning five of seven to get the top spot. The second spot was then determined by Victoria's head-to-head win over Lakeside.

They lost to top-seeded Pretty Prairie 25-20, 25-8 but came back to defeat the No. 8 seed Rawlins County 26-24, 25-16.Downs-Lakeside and Pretty Prairie also finished 2-1 in pool play with Down-Lakeside defeating the Bulldogs 23-25, 25-18, 29-27 in the final match of the day.The first place spot in the semifinals was based on percentage of sets won, with Pretty Prairie winning five of seven to get the top spot. The second spot was then determined by Victoria's head-to-head win over Lakeside.

Hays High hosted Goddard-Eisenhower on Thursday night in a Week 9 Bracket game, with the winner continuing their season.

It came down to the final drive and final seconds to decide the winner. Hays took the first lead of the game in the second quarter, after neither team managed points in the first. Eisenhower had the first chance to score but a botched snap on fourth and goal from the two, lost thirty-one yards.

The Indians broke the goal line for the first time on a Roy Moroni five yard run. The Jack Field's point after try gave Hays a 7-0 lead. Eisenhower answered right before the end of the second half with an eight yard touchdown pass. Their extra point missed leaving Hays with a 7-6 halftime advantage.

Hays immediately took a lead a larger lead in the second half when Kyrese Groen scored on a 35 yard wide receiver reverse. The point after missed for a 13-6 lead with 11:07 left in the third quarter. Remy Stull intercepted a pass on the next drive and the Indian defense forced a short punt on the Eisenhower possession after that. However the Hays offense could not take advantage.&nbsp;

The Tigers would tie the game on a 23 yard touchdown run and extra point following an Jaren Kanak interception.

Each team had opportunities to take the lead, but missed field goals, dropped passes, and turnovers left the score tied at thirteen late in the game.

The Indians' final drive started at the fifteen yard line and took thirteen plays, but resulted in a Kanak one yard score with twelve seconds on the game clock at 19-13.

Eisenhower threw a series of laterals on their final play, but a final fumble was recovered by Will Cadoret to seal the 19-13 victory.

Roy Moroni finished the game with 113 rushing yards.

Hays improves to 7-2 and will play the winner of Andover and Salina South, who play tomorrow evening. Eisenhower ends their season at 5-4.

Natausha Dreher, who amassed 272 wins as the TMP-Marian volleyball coach, is resigning from coaching the Monarchs. Dreher went 272-142 in 11 seasons, winning four Mid-Continent League championships and four sub-state championships. In 2017, Dreher led the Monarchs to the 3A state championship. Dreher was named the Kansas 3A Coach of the Year after the 2017 season.

“Although I have much enjoyed my time coaching these young ladies for the past 11 seasons, life experiences have changed my spark for coaching,” Dreher said. “While these past seasons have brought me great joy…I need to step away from the game and take care of myself and my family.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Ryan Tannehill threw for 270 yards and a touchdown, and he also ran for a score and the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/TEN/tennessee-titans/">Tennessee Titans</a>&nbsp;routed the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/KC/kansas-city-chiefs/">Kansas City Chiefs</a>&nbsp;27-3 Sunday for their fifth win in six games.

This also was the second victory in six days for the Titans (5-2) over teams that played for the AFC championship in January.

They edged Buffalo 34-31 on Monday night and followed that by simply dominating the two-time defending AFC champs as Tennessee jumped out to a 27-0 halftime lead.

The Chiefs (3-4) have lost two of three and dropped to 1-4 in the AFC this season. They also were held to their fewest points since a 38-3 loss to Denver on Dec. 30, 2012.

This was the first time Patrick Mahomes had trailed by 27 at halftime and the third-largest halftime deficit for the Chiefs since 1991. It was the worst since the Chiefs trailed Pittsburgh 29-0 at the half on Oct. 2, 2016, and only the eighth time in franchise history that Kansas City had trailed by 27 or more at the half.

The Titans forced three turnovers - two by Mahomes - that they turned into 10 points. Denico Autry had two of the Titans' four sacks.

Mahomes was slow to get up after taking a knee to his head on the fourth sack by Autry. He went to the medical tent and didn't return with Chad Henne replacing him late. He finished with 206 yards passing and 35 yards rushing.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Mahomes cleared the concussion protocols and will play Nov. 1 against the Giants. But Reid chose not to put Mahomes back in for the Chiefs' final drive. Mahomes said he felt fine.

''You get hit pretty hard, sometimes you just want to lay there,'' Mahomes said. ''Plus it was fourth down. ... It was a disappointing day and disappointing way it ended.''

Kansas City won the toss and deferred. The Titans didn't look back despite three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan sitting out with a concussion.

The Titans went up-tempo with Tannehill spreading the ball around to 2020 Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown and seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Julio Jones. Derrick Henry, the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl">NFL</a>'s rushing leader, finished the drive out of the wildcat, throwing a 5-yard pass to tight end MyCole Pruitt for the 7-0 lead.

Outside linebacker Bud Dupree, Tennessee's biggest free agent signee, got his first sack this season to end the Chiefs' opening drive.

Tannehill drove the Titans 97 yards on the ensuing drive, highlighted by a 46-yard throw to Brown initially ruled an incompletion. Titans coach Mike Vrabel won his challenge, and Tannehill finished the drive with a 24-yard TD pass to Brown, who had been dealing with food poisoning all week.

After linebacker Rashaan Evans' interception, Tannehill ran for a 2-yard TD and a 24-0 lead. Randy Bullock added his second field goal off Mahomes' fumble for the 27-0 lead.

Mahomes has been intercepted in six straight games, the longest stretch of his career. He had 11 interceptions combined over 2019 and 2020 and has nine this season. His fumble with 1:46 left in the first half was his second this season, giving him 11 turnovers for the season.

That's the most Mahomes has ever had in a single season even counting the playoffs. He had only nine in 17 games in 2019 and 10 in 18 games in 2020.

Henry's TD pass made him the second NFL player in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/superbowl/">Super Bowl</a>&nbsp;era to run for at least 10 TDs and throw a TD pass in his team's first seven games. LaDainian Tomlinson was the first in 2005.

The running back's first career TD pass came in a divisional playoff win over Baltimore in January 2020.

Titans left guard Roger Saffold hurt a thigh muscle in the first half but returned. Kendall Lamm, who started in Lewan's place, hurt an ankle in the first half and didn't return. He was replaced by Bobby Hart, signed Wednesday off Buffalo's practice squad.

Chiefs host the New York Giants in prime time on Nov. 1.

The Tigers started fast with a 14-0 lead, only to see the Mules score 17 unanswered points in the second half to take the lead in the fourth quarter. The Tigers started their final drive with 3:04 remaining and scored the game-winning touchdown with 26 seconds remaining. FHSU is now 4-4 on the season, while UCM drops to 2-6. After both teams punted on their first drives, Fort Hays State got its offense going with back-to-back touchdown drives.
