“Voice of the Wildcats.” That title belongs to the legendary sportscasters who have broadcast Kansas State University football and basketball games through the years.

Wyatt Thompson is the current and longtime Voice of the Cats, which he especially appreciates because of his roots in rural Kansas. Thompson became Voice of the Wildcats in 2002. He grew up in rural Kansas near Solomon.

Among his interests was livestock judging in high school FFA, which included two elements: One, placing a class of livestock in the desired order; and two, stating oral reasons to a judge to describe the reasons for that placing.

This process required him to make quick judgments and to state his observations articulately and accurately. In a sense, those skills also serve him well as a sportscaster.

Thompson continued livestock judging at Colby Community College but found himself drawn to sports broadcasting. He made the change. In 1976, he began his career, spending time at radio stations in Great Bend and Abilene. He was recognized with the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Play-by-Play Award in 1982.

From 1985 until 1989, Thompson worked at KAYS in Hays where he was the play-by-play voice at Fort Hays State. He won the Oscar Stauffer Sportscaster of the Year Award in 1989.

Then Thompson moved to Denver. He was the play-by-play voice for Colorado State's football and men's basketball teams for five years. In addition to his duties at CSU, Thompson was also a sports reporter on radio and host of the Countdown to Kickoff show for the Denver Broncos.

Thompson won the Colorado Broadcasting Association award for best play-by-play announcer in 2000.

In 2002, he moved to K-State to become the Voice of the Wildcat, a position he still holds today. In doing so, he followed in the footsteps of legendary broadcasters who have previously served as Voice of the Wildcats:&nbsp;Dev Nelson, Mitch Holthus, Steve Physioc and Greg Sharpe.

Today, Thompson is senior director of broadcasting for the K-State Athletic Department as well as Voice of the Wildcats. He&nbsp;serves as host of the Chris Klieman and Jerome Tang coaches’ shows on television and radio. In addition, he is heavily involved in various Catbacker Club, alumni and athletic department functions, frequently serving as a keynote speaker.

In an era of NIL -- Name, Image, Likeness -- and the transfer portal, it seems remarkable that he is observing local players from Kansas making an impact for their home state team. 

For example, in football, he sees Sam Hecht from Shawnee snap the ball to Avery Johnson, who went to Maize, who then might hand off the ball to Dylan Edwards from Wichita or D.J. Giddens from Junction City – and they just might be led by a block from Hadley Panzer of Lakin.

An estimated 55 Kansans are on the K-State football roster – far more than any other state.

It is especially exciting to see such in-state talent perform well. According to the K-State athletic department, since 1990 K-State’s all-conference selections have come from 37 cities in Kansas.

“I love broadcasting K-State sports for so many reasons,” Thompson said. “At the top of the list would be the amazing coaches and players that I get to work with daily.”

He also relishes the game day experience. “You can just feel the excitement for each game, and the love this fan base has for Kansas State University and the Cats,” Thompson said.

Thompson won the Hod Humiston Award for sports broadcasting from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters in 2011. Over the course of his career, Thompson has been named the Kansas Sportscaster of the Year six times. He ranks second all-time among K-State broadcasters in awards won, and fourth all-time among broadcasters in the state of Kansas.

In 2022 he was inducted into the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

It's an impressive record for a farm kid from the rural community of Solomon, population 993 people. Now, that’s rural.

Voice of the Wildcats. We commend Wyatt Thompson for making a difference by sharing the excitement of Power 4 football and basketball with fans across Kansas and beyond. We’re always thankful to hear his voice.

HAYS - The TMP-Marian girls and boys basketball teams have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Mid-Continent League tournament.

GIRLS: TMP 65, Hill City 13 The Lady Monarchs (4-4, 2-1 MCL) used a couple of really big runs, lead wire-to-wire and with a continuous clock in the fourth quarter the Monarchs earned the 65-13.

TMP’s Brooke Koenigsman scored five of her team-high 13 points in the first quarter as the Monarchs built 15-5 first quarter run.&nbsp;

The Monarchs held the Ringnecks scoreless in the second quarter while racking up 21 points. TMP led 36-5 at halftime.&nbsp;

The Monarchs defense allowed just two points in the third quarter to the Ringnecks (0-8, 0-5) and took a 52-9 lead into the final frame.

With the running clock in the fourth the Monarchs went on to pick up the 65-13 victory.

Koenigsman and Hill City’s Riley Minium finished with a game-high 13 each.

Every Monarch player who got into the game scored.

TMP will travel to Oakley on Tuesday to take on the Plainsmen in the MCL tournament quarterfinals.

The final game of night was a game of scoring runs that saw TMP dominated the final minutes in a 55-51 come from behind win.

Ty Schmeider had five of TMP’s seven points in the first quarter and &nbsp;Russell’s Mason Rohr scored all seven.

Later in the quarter, &nbsp;TMP’s Caden Dinkel tied the game at seven with a driving layup and sparked a 17-0 run to end the first and begin the second quarter putting TMP up 22-7.

Schmeidler scored eight straight during that run and finished with 13 points.&nbsp;

Despite the big lead, the Monarchs could not hold on to it and Russell put together 11-0 pulling themselves back within four points at 22-18.&nbsp;

TMP found themselves clinging to a 25-18 lead into halftime.

Jacob Seib owned the third quarter for the Monarchs scoring 14 straight points as TMP built a 39-27 lead.

Down 12, Russell began to chip away at the TMP lead and they came storming back t0 take a 47-42 lead thanks to a 20-3 run. 

Trailing 47-42 the Monarchs finished the game on a 13-4 run as they clenched a 55-52 victory.

Seib finished six-for-six at the free thrown line the fourth quarter to clinch the TMP win.&nbsp;

Seib led all-scorers with a career-high 22 points.

TMP will travel to Norton Monday to face the Bluejays in the quarterfinals of the MCL tournament.

🏀Monarchs moving on to MCL tournament quarterfinals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for 177 yards and a touchdown, most of it going to best buddy Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Houston Texans 23-14 on Saturday to advance to the AFC championship game for the seventh consecutive season.

<a href="https://apnews.com/article/taylor-swift-kansas-city-chiefs-houston-texans-468b074fb9dc4f03b743593670ffdf86">With girlfriend Taylor Swift watching</a>&nbsp;alongside WNBA star Caitlin Clark from a suite, Kelce had seven catches for 117 yards and a score, helping the Chiefs (16-2) keep alive their dream of winning an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title.

The Chiefs are the fourth team in NFL history to follow back-to-back Lombardi Trophies by advancing to the conference title game, and the three previous lost. They will try to change that trend at Arrowhead Stadium next weekend against the Bills or Ravens, who&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ravens-bills-offseason-changes-4dde27a6add38d33f319b9331fbb5aa3">play on Sunday in Buffalo</a>&nbsp;for a shot at dethroning the defending champs.

Mahomes improved 16-3 in the playoffs, tying Joe Montana for the second-most wins in NFL history behind Tom Brady, and he is 7-0 in the divisional round. Mahomes also helped Andy Reid become the fourth NFL coach with 300 career wins.

Meanwhile, the Texans (11-8) still have never won in six divisional games. Twice they have lost to Kansas City.

Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud threw for 245 yards but was sacked eight times. Joe Mixon, who had been questionable to play with an ankle injury, caught a couple of passes while running for 88 yards and a touchdown.

Texans kicker Kai’imi Fairbairn missed a 55-yard field goal attempt, an extra-point try and had another field goal attempt blocked with 1:46 left, which would have kept Houston's comeback hopes alive by making it a one-possession game.

In truth, the Texans’ special teams were a mess right from the start. The Chiefs nearly opened the game with&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/texans-chiefs-kris-boyd-23137058a01f4e4d956656cc9c289b97">a kickoff return for a touchdown</a>, a bizarre sequence during which heated Houston cornerback Kris Boyd nearly shoved his own coach to the ground.

The Texans held Kansas City to a couple of field goals early, but their defense was unable to stop them late in the first half, when the bruising Kareem Hunt barreled into the end zone to give the AFC West champions a 13-3 lead.

Houston managed a 48-yard field goal through cold, swirling winds to make it a one-possession game at the break, and that late kick seemed to have revived the AFC South champions when they returned to the field for the second half.

Stroud deftly led them on a 15-play, 82-yard drive that soaked up most of the third quarter, picking up all four of their third-down conversions, including one in which the QB scrambled to the sideline and absorbed a wicked hit. Mixon finished the drive with a 13-yard run, but Fairbairn’s extra point that would have tied the game was blown wide right.

That miss just might have swung the momentum the other way.

Just as they have so often in winning their last eight playoff games, the Chiefs responded with a time-consuming drive of their own. Mahomes connected with Kelce four times on the 81-yard march, including the 11-yard touchdown pass to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/taylor-swift-kansas-city-chiefs-houston-texans-468b074fb9dc4f03b743593670ffdf86">his trusty tight end</a>&nbsp;as the two-time NFL MVP was getting dragged to the turf by Houston's Mario Edwards Jr.

The Texans had two opportunities to drive for a tying touchdown. But the first drive ended when Stroud was sacked by George Karlaftis on fourth down near midfield with about 10 minutes left. The second was stopped when Stroud misfired on back-to-back passes and Houston was forced to punt the ball away with just over seven minutes to go.

Kansas City proceeded to drive inside the Texans 10 and Harrison Butker’s field goal with 4:32 left put the game away.

Texans: LB Azeez Al-Shaair hurt his knee in the first half. He had been questionable to play this week with a knee injury.

Chiefs: SS Bryan Cook missed most of the first half while being evaluated for a concussion but returned to the game. ... FS Justin Reid took a hard blow to the head breaking up a pass in the fourth quarter, but stayed in.

The Chiefs host the AFC title game a week from Sunday for the sixth time in seven years. They will play either the Bills, one of two teams to beat them in the regular season, or the Ravens, who lost in Kansas City in Week 1.

The Tigers defeated the Bearcats 72-65 to improve to 12-4 overall and 5-2 in the MIAA. NWMSU fell to 4-13 overall and 2-6 in the MIAA. The win gave FHSU a perfect 3-0 homestand.

Even though Fort Hays State jumped out to a 10-point lead twice early on, starting the game on a 12-2 run, Northwest Missouri State would not go away throughout the afternoon. The Bearcats battled back to even with the Tigers on a 10-0 run after the Tigers led 14-4 and took three one-point leads in the opening half before FHSU eventually got back ahead and led 33-29 at halftime. A 7-0 burst by the Tigers took them from one point down to six up before the four-point advantage at the break.

A 7-0 run by the Tigers from the 15:16 to 13:46 marks in the second half pushed the Tiger lead back out to 10. Another 7-0 burst from the 7:41 to 6:07 marks took a six-point lead out to 13, the largest of the game, capped on a layup made by Traejon Davis.

The Tigers were up 12 with 4:11 to play, but a pair of quick 3-point field goals from Marcus Glock immediately brought the Bearcats back within striking distance with 3:00 to play. A pair of free throws 30 seconds later brought the lead down to just four. However, Davis had the big answer for FHSU by knocking down a corner 3-point field goal with 53 seconds to play, pushing the lead to seven and making it a three-possession game. Davis closed any further hope by making a pair of free throws with 16 seconds to play to produce the final margin of seven.

Davis finished with a season-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. He was 2-of-3 beyond the 3-point line and his two free throws late were his only attempts at the stripe. Kaleb Hammeke&nbsp;added 16 points and a team-high four assists. FHSU outscored NWMSU by 14 on field goals, but NWMSU had seven more free throws made. FHSU scored 38 of its 44 2-point shots inside the paint. FHSU finished at 47.5 percent from the field overall in the game, while holding NWMSU to 39.6 percent from the field.

The Tigers moved into a second-place tie with Northeastern State at 5-2 in MIAA play. Both are two games back of undefeated and No. 1 nationally ranked Washburn, which is 17-0 overall and 7-0 in MIAA play.

FHSU will be on the road for its next four games, starting with a trip to Oklahoma next week when it takes on Rogers State (Thur.) and Central Oklahoma (Sat.). It will be the only meeting of the regular season with both schools.

🏀 Tigers beat NW Missouri for regular season sweep

YORK, Neb. – Fort Hays State Women's Wrestling returned to action on Saturday (Jan. 18) at the York University Open.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/piper-cadden/8210">Piper Cadden</a>&nbsp;claimed a tournament title at 131 in her first action this season after missing the first semester. Twelve of the 19 Tigers competing in the tournament placed, which included five second-place, two third-place, and four fourth-place finishers to go with Cadden's title.

Cadden blazed her way to the title at 131 by going 3-0 on the day. She did not surrender a point, winning her first match 10-0 by tech fall, advanced in the semifinal with a default win, and then topped teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/jamie-laswell/8282">Jamie Laswell</a>&nbsp;in the final with a 3-0 decision.

The five second-place finishers for FHSU included the aforementioned Laswell,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/ashlynn-goodwin/8212">Ashlynn Goodwin</a>&nbsp;(138),&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/alexis-burton/8275">Alexis Burton</a>&nbsp;(145),&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/josie-houk/8279">Josie Houk</a>&nbsp;(160), and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/grace-johns/8281">Grace Johns</a>&nbsp;(207). Laswell, Goodwin, Houk, and Johns all went 2-1 on the day. Laswell knocked off the No. 6 ranked wrestler in NAIA in her opening match on criteria, then scored a tech fall before the loss to Cadden. Goodwin's two wins were over a pair of NAIA ranked wrestlers (No. 15 and 13). Houk scored a fall and then a decision over teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/kaylee-ricketts/8218">Kaylee Ricketts</a>&nbsp;before dropping the final to the No. 11 ranked wrestler in NAIA. Johns scored a fall and then a shutout decision over the No. 20 ranked wrestler in the NAIA before a loss in the final.

HAYS – The Hays High girls’ wrestling team had a couple of
second place finishes and one third and placed fourth at their own Prairie Classic
on Saturday at Hays High School.

Norton won the team title with 190.5 points. Colby was second
with 153, Oakley third with 152 then the Indians with 134. Plainville placed in
fifth place with 130 points.

Tionna Napue (135) and Timber Lovewell (145) both finished second
with Eleanor Stoffel in third place at 190. Napue received a bye in the first
round the won her quarterfinal and semifinals matches by fall before losing to
Oakley’s Abbygayls Jackson by fall in the finals. Lovewell won her first match
by fall then by decision in the quarterfinal and semifinal round before losing
by fall to Russell’s Jaden Ney.

Lyla Richards of Ellis went 2-1 and finished third at 140.

Plainville’s Caydence Carter finished first at 190, winning
by fall over Norton’s Cadence Greeson in the title match. Kaeleigh Klein finished
second at 100, losing by fall to Junction City’s Jaidyn Alvarado in the finals.

Hays PostHAYS – The Hays High girls’ wrestling team had a couple of
second place finishes and one third and placed fourth at their own Prairie Classic
on Saturday at Hays High School.Norton won the team title with 190.5 points. Colby was second
with 153, Oakley third with 152 then the Indians with 134. Plainville placed in
fifth place with 130 points.Tionna Napue (135) and Timber Lovewell (145) both finished second
with Eleanor Stoffel in third place at 190. Napue received a bye in the first
round the won her quarterfinal and semifinals matches by fall before losing to
Oakley’s Abbygayls Jackson by fall in the finals. Lovewell won her first match
by fall then by decision in the quarterfinal and semifinal round before losing
by fall to Russell’s Jaden Ney.Lyla Richards of Ellis went 2-1 and finished third at 140.Plainville’s Caydence Carter finished first at 190, winning
by fall over Norton’s Cadence Greeson in the title match. Kaeleigh Klein finished

MARSHALL, Minn. - The Fort Hays State men's wrestling team came out victorious in one of three matchups at the SMSU Duals on Saturday (Jan. 18). The Tigers opened the day with a 32-16 loss against Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the fifth-ranked team in Division III, before bouncing back in a 28-14 win against tournament host Southwest Minnesota State. FHSU then fell to Minot State on tiebreaker criteria, 22-21, in the finale.

Four Tigers went undefeated on the day, with&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/a-b-stokes/8307">A.B. Stokes</a>&nbsp;(125 pounds) and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/riah-ostrander/8302">Riah Ostrander</a>&nbsp;(285 pounds) both picking up a trio of wins.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/ryan-patterson/8305">Ryan Patterson</a>&nbsp;and 12th-ranked&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/tereus-henry/8295">Tereus Henry</a>&nbsp;combined for three wins at 197 pounds, with Patterson picking up a win in the first dual and Henry following with two wins.

Stokes opened the day with a 14-5 major decision before Wisconsin-Eau Claire took control with wins in six of the next seven bouts.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/marcell-dely/8293">Marcell Dely</a>&nbsp;broke up the run with a 6-3 decision at 157 pounds before&nbsp;Patterson took home a win via injury default at 197 pounds and Ostrander wrapped up the dual with a 5-1 decision.

Stokes added his second win of the day with an injury default in the first bout against Southwest Minnesota State before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/andrew-honas/8314">Andrew Honas</a>&nbsp;recorded a first-period pin to double the lead to 12-0. The Mustangs won the next three to close within 12-11, but Fort Hays State picked up wins in four of the last five matchups to secure the win.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/jacob-judd/8315">Jacob Judd</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/connor-padgett/8304">Connor Padgett</a>&nbsp;opened the run with back-to-back major decisions, while Henry and Ostrander finished things off with a 15-0 technical fall and a 4-0 decision, respectively.

Stokes opened the dual against Minot State with a dominant 15-0 technical fall, but the Beavers were then able to win the next four bouts to take a sizable 18-5 lead. With the Beavers open at 285 and the score essentially 18-11, Fort Hays State took three of the next four bouts to claw back. Judd secured his second victory of the day with an 8-3 decision before MSU bounced back with a tiebreak win.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/matthew-rodriguez/8306">Matthew Rodriguez</a>&nbsp;followed with a 12-0 major decision at 185 pounds to put the Tigers effectively within 21-18. Henry completed the comeback with a 7-5 decision, but two pins gave the Beavers the win via tiebreak criteria.

The Tigers will now jump into conference action beginning next Sunday (Jan. 26) when FHSU hosts Newman beginning at 2 p.m. inside Gross Memorial Coliseum.

The Tigers opened the day with a 32-16 loss against Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the fifth-ranked team in Division III, before bouncing back in a 28-14 win against tournament host Southwest Minnesota State. 🤼‍♂️ Tiger men go 1-2 in Minnesota

HAYS, Kan. - The seventh-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team bounced back from Thursday's home loss with an 84-60 win over Northwest Missouri State. The Tigers (14-2, 5-2 MIAA) hit 53.8 percent from the floor in the win, their highest shooting percentage against a Division II team this season. The win is Fort Hays State's fourth conference victory by at least 20 points this season.

The teams battled back-and-forth throughout the first quarter, with the lead changing hands five times alongside five ties. The Bearcats led by as many as four midway through the frame before the Tigers closed the quarter on a 9-3 run, taking the lead for good.

Fort Hays State started to pull away in the second quarter after outscoring the Bearcats 26-11 in the frame. The Tigers hit a blistering 63.3 percent from the floor in the opening half (19-of-30), including a run of eight-straight made field goals over a five-minute stretch that pushed the lead to 15. Talexa Weeter&nbsp;hit four shots during the run, while Katie DeGarmo&nbsp;added seven points. DeGarmo later scored the final three points of the half, giving FHSU a 47-30 lead at halftime.

A layup from Olivia Hollenbeck&nbsp;and five points from Kate Dilsaver&nbsp;helped the Tigers push the lead to 24 early in the third quarter, 54-30. Dilsaver continued to impress throughout the frame, with the senior totaling 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting in the third quarter alone.

The Bearcats responded with a 9-0 run over the heart of the third quarter to close within 15 before the Tigers scored nine in a row themselves to push the lead back to 24.

Fort Hays State continued to add to its lead in the fourth quarter, scoring 14-straight points after forcing the Bearcats into seven-consecutive misses and two turnovers. Bailey Wilborn's&nbsp;second basket of the day put the Tigers up by as many as 32 with 3:23 to play.

Five Tigers scored in double figures for the fourth time this season, including a team-high 15 points from both DeGarmo and Weeter. Hollenbeck and Dilsaver both contributed 14 points each, while Brooke Loewe&nbsp;totaled 13 points and added 11 assists for her third double-double of the year.

Fort Hays State turned the ball over a season-low five times, the lowest total for the Tigers in nearly two years (three turnovers at Nebraska-Kearney, 2/25/23). The Tigers outrebounded Northwest by 11, 42-31, and doubled them up in scoring in the paint, 44-22.

Now with 1,670 career points, Hollenbeck moved into fifth place on the all-time scoring list at Fort Hays State, moving past Petrece Faulkner (1,657 points, 1989-93).

The Tigers will now hit the road for a four-game road trip beginning Thursday (Jan. 23) when they take on Rogers State beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Claremore, Okla.&nbsp;&nbsp;

🏀 No. 7 Tiger women bounce back with big win over Bearcats

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Hunter Dickinson had 25 points and Zeke Mayo scored 24 to lead&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-basketball-poll">No. 9</a>&nbsp;Kansas over Kansas State 84-74 on Saturday.

Kansas (13-4, 4-2 Big 12) built a big lead to start the game and then kept K-State at arm's length. The Wildcats (7-10, 1-5) never got closer than six points.

Mayo had 14 points in the first half. Dajuan Harris Jr. had nine in the first half and six in the second.

With a chance to cut the Wildcats’ deficit to five, Max Jones missed a corner 3-pointer with 2:32 remaining.

Coleman Hawkins led the Wildcats with 15 points and 10 assists.

Kansas State: The Wildcats need to avoid big runs. A 14-0 run to start the game made it an up-hill climb all day. The Jayhawks' biggest lead was 16 points.

Kansas: The Jayhawks need KJ Adams Jr. to heal quickly. Adams suffered a partially separated right shoulder against Iowa State on Wednesday and is expected to miss several games. The Jayhawks got little production outside of Dickinson from their inside players.

The 14-0 run. Kansas hit five of its first six shots, including going 3 of 3 from beyond the arc, while K-State missed its first seven shots. The Wildcats went into halftime trailing 39-29.

K-State managed to stay in the game despite shooting just 23.1% from 3-point range. The Wildcats were just 2 of 15 in the first half. They shot 4 of 11 after halftime.

Kansas State remains on the road Wednesday night at No. 25 Baylor. Kansas visits TCU on Wednesday night.

Tipoff for the second meeting between the teams this season is set for 4 p.m. The Tigers enter at 11-4 overall, 4-2 in the MIAA, while the Bearcats are 4-12 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA.

Fort Hays State won the first meeting of the season with Northwest Missouri State by a score of 58-39 in Maryville. It was the first win for FHSU in Maryville since the 2012-13 season, snapping an eight-game win string by the Bearcats on their home floor against the Tigers. The Tigers have a chance for their first regular season sweep of the Bearcats in conference play since the 2012-13 season. FHSU has won two of the last three meetings overall with NWMSU and won 57-49 last year in Hays.

The Tigers enter the contest 13-2 overall and 4-2 in league action after suffering a one-point defeat against Missouri Western Thursday evening. It was the second time the Tigers have lost to the Griffons by one point in less than two weeks. The Bearcats, meanwhile, lost at Nebraska-Kearney 71-64 on Thursday to dip to 9-8 on the year and 2-5 in MIAA contests.

Fort Hays State leads Division II in attendance this season, averaging 1,728 fans per home contest. That total would rank in the top 100 in Division I and is more than 272 DI programs.

The Tigers rank in the top 10 nationally in several statistical categories, including assists per game (19.1, third), assist/turnover ratio (1.31, fifth), defensive rebounds per game (30.8, seventh) and scoring margin (plus-18.9, 10th). FHSU also leads the conference in field goal percentage defense, limiting teams to a shooting percentage of 34.0 percent.

Olivia Hollenbeck&nbsp;needs one point to move into a tie for fifth on the all-time scoring list at FHSU (Petrece Faulkner - 1,657 career points - 1989-93). The graduate student is fourth in the league this season in scoring, averaging 16.9 points per night. She also ranks second in the MIAA in steals (2.4 per game) and third in blocks (1.8 per game). Hollenbeck's shooting percentage of 64.1 percent ranks fourth in all Division II.

Katie DeGarmo&nbsp;is closing in on a pair of milestones. The graduate student needs 35 rebounds to tie Kate Lehman for the school record in rebounds (1,109 career boards). She is also just 32 points away from becoming the second player in school history to score 2,000 career points.

Brooke Loewe&nbsp;continues to lead the conference in assists, now with 106 on the season for an average of 7.1 per game. She is second in the country in total assists and third in assists per game.

Hollenbeck averages 16.0 points per game in 10 career matchups with Northwest. The forward averages 11.8 points against all other teams.

The Tigers are 25-11 all-time against the Bearcats, including a 13-2 edge in games played in Hays.
