⚾ Larks roll past San Diego Stars in NBC World Series opener

WICHITA — The Hays Larks jumped out to an early lead and cruised to an 11-3, seven-inning victory over the San Diego Stars in their NBC World Series pool play opener Saturday afternoon at Eck Stadium.

The Larks (27-7) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Hutch Russell RBI single, then added three runs in the second behind RBI singles from Taber Stokes and Owen Coil to build a 4-0 advantage.

Brady Wilson broke the game open with a three-run homer to left field in the fifth, extending the lead to 8-2. Hays capped the scoring with three runs in the sixth on a solo home run by Cooper Holtorf and a two-run single from Rayner Beene.

Trent Baker improved to 5-0 after allowing three runs on five hits over five innings. He struck out four and walked one. Brian Walters tossed two scoreless innings in relief to finish the run-rule victory.

The Larks continue pool play against Tess's Army at 3 p.m. Sunday at Eck Stadium.
