DYERSVILLE, Iowa — The Kansas baseball team will play Iowa near the site of the iconic “Field of Dreams” movie as part of its preparation for the 2027 season.
The Jayhawks and Hawkeyes will meet in an exhibition game Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. in Dyersville, Iowa, Iowa announced Monday. The game will be played near the field where the 1989 movie “Field of Dreams” was filmed.
The venue has previously hosted Major League Baseball and minor league games. It is also scheduled to host the Iowa Cubs and St. Paul Saints on Aug. 11 and the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 13.
Beginning next summer, the ballpark will serve as the home of the Dyersville Dreamers of the Northwoods League. The Kansas-Iowa matchup will be the first collegiate game between two power-conference programs at the venue.
Iowa finished the 2026 season with a 33-23 overall record and a 15-15 mark in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes defeated Illinois before falling to Michigan State and Purdue in the conference tournament.
Kansas is coming off one of the best seasons in program history. The Jayhawks won their first regular-season conference championship since 1949, captured their first Big 12 tournament title since 2006 and hosted an NCAA regional for the first time.
Kansas won the Lawrence Regional before being eliminated by eventual national champion Oklahoma in the Lawrence Super Regional.
The Jayhawks lost several key players who exhausted their eligibility or were selected in the MLB Draft, but are expected to return a core group that includes second baseman Cade Baldridge, catcher Augusto Mungarrieta, center fielder Tyson Owens and third baseman Dylan Schlotterback.
Pitchers Mason Cook, Boede Rahe, Riane Ritter and Manning West are also expected to return.
Kansas will also compete in the Frisco College Baseball Classic from March 5-7 in Frisco, Texas. The tournament field includes Southern Mississippi, UC Irvine and defending national champion Oklahoma.
