KANSAS CITY, Mo. â The Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday unveiled initial renderings of the teamâs planned enclosed stadium in Kansas City, Kansas, which is expected to open in 2031.
The $3 billion stadium in Wyandotte County would seat about 70,000 fans and feature a fully enclosed roof made with translucent ETFE panels. Plans also call for more than 20,000 parking spaces.
âToday we are excited to show Chiefs Kingdom a first look at our new home,â Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said in a statement.
Hunt said the teamâs goal is to improve the game-day experience while honoring the franchiseâs history.
âItâs spectacular,â Hunt said. âIt honors the rich legacy of this franchise while setting a bold course for the future of Chiefs Kingdom.â
Although many details are still being finalized, Hunt said the stadium will maintain the teamâs tailgating tradition and be designed to maximize crowd noise.
The stadium is part of a broader development plan that includes a $300 million practice facility in Olathe and an estimated $1.2 billion in privately funded real estate projects near both sites.
An economic impact projection released in connection with the move estimates the projects could generate $8.2 billion in total economic activity across the Kansas City region. That includes an estimated $1.9 billion in indirect economic activity and $1.8 billion in employee spending.
The report also projects the construction period will support more than 36,000 jobs, generate $2.7 billion in employee compensation and produce $106 million in Kansas tax revenue.
The Chiefs filed several trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in June that could offer clues about possible names for the new stadium and surrounding development.
The applications included âArrowhead Sports and Entertainment Complex,â âArrowhead Sports Complex,â âTailgate Townâ and âKingdom Commons.â
