⚾ Larks close out regular season with blowout win

DODGE CITY – Hutch Russell collected four hits, Sean Keenan drove in four runs, and the Hays Larks wrapped up the regular season with a 16-3 run-rule victory over the Dodge City A's in a non-league game Monday night at Cavalier Field.

Keenan gave the Larks an early lead with a two-run home run in the first inning before adding a two-run double during Hays' nine-run sixth inning.

The Larks (26-7) stretched their advantage to 6-0 with four runs in the third. Brand Wilson drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, Taber Stokes followed with an RBI groundout, and Ty Schmeidler and Tony Moore added RBI singles.

Hays put the game away in the sixth, sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs to end the contest by the 10-run rule. Schmeidler and Max Flowers each delivered RBI singles, Rayner Beene drew a bases-loaded walk, Russell and Keenan both ripped two-run doubles, and Wilson capped the inning with a two-run home run.

Dodge City (12-20-2) scored all three of its runs on a three-run home run by Jadin Moreno.

Carson Liles (4-1) earned the win, allowing three runs on five hits over four innings. He struck out four and did not issue a walk. Justin Peinado finished the game with two hitless innings of relief, striking out three while walking three.

Up next

The Larks now turn their attention to the NBC World Series in Wichita. Hays opens pool play against the San Diego Stars at noon Saturday before facing Tess's Army at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Larks close out pool play Tuesday at 6 p.m. against the Alaska Goldpanners.
