FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Mike Miles Jr. had 19 points and six assists as TCU solidified its once-shaky NCAA Tournament resume with a second consecutive win over a top-10 team, 74-64 over sixth-ranked Kansas on Tuesday night. 

The Horned Frogs (19-9, 8-8 Big 12) secured the game during a stretch when Miles made a strong move around KJ Adams Jr. for a layup, and then made a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 59-49 with 7:44 left. After a Kansas miss, Xavier Cork had a slam dunk that sent the sold-out crowd into a frenzy, and students swarmed the court when it was over. 

Kansas (23-6, 12-4), with consecutive losses for the first time this season, went from a half-game lead to a half-game behind No. 3 Baylor (25-5, 13-4) in the Big 12 standings with an extra game to play.

The Jayhawks, who play TCU again Thursday at home before facing No. 21 Texas on Saturday, missed a chance to clinch at least a share of their 20th Big 12 title in 26 seasons when they lost 80-70 at third-ranked Baylor last Saturday, the same day the Horned Frogs won at home 69-66 against then-No. 9 Texas Tech. Kansas will now go to the final day of the regular season before the title is settled. 

Emmanuel Miller added 11 points for TCU, which has won three of four since a three-game losing streak that had its NCAA hopes in jeopardy.

Ochai Agbaji, the Big 12 leading scorer at 20.4 points per game, had 13 points for Kansas on 4-of-17 shooting, with three of his makes 3-pointers. Jalen Wilson also had 13 points and David McCormack scored 11. Agbaji and McCormack both had eight rebounds. The Jayhawks took a 35-34 halftime lead after scoring the last six points. Agbaji swished a 3 from the right corner in front of the TCU bench and Jalen Coleman-Lands put them ahead with a 3 from the right side. 

Kansas made five 3s in the first half, including Christian Braun's long one banked off the glass when he realized the shot clock was almost at zero and he beat the buzzer. 

Kansas: The Jayhawks hadn't lost consecutive Big 12 games since losing three in a row on the road in January 2020. ... Kansas dropped to 107-16 in games following a loss in coach Bill Self's 19 seasons. They had been 4-0 this season.

TCU: The Horned Frogs have four wins against AP Top 25 teams this season, the first time they have ever done that. They are 4-3 against ranked teams, 3-2 at home. 

Kansas and TCU play again Thursday night, this time in Lawrence, Kansas, in the makeup of what was supposed to be the Big 12 opener for both teams on New Year's Day. That game was postponed because of COVID-19 issues in TCU's program.

🏀 No. 6 Kansas falls at TCU

Hays High hosted Arkansas City to open postseason basketball for the second time in three years. The Indians entered as the top overall seed in 5A West after a 19-1 season. They won the three team tie based on defensive points allowed. Arkansas City made it to postseason as the sixteen seed at 3-17.

The first half recorded just 22 total shots between the two teams. Ark City led just once at 4-3 despite shooting 70% over the first sixteen minutes. Hays led 11-4 after one quarter and pushed their advantage to 16-8 three minutes into the second quarter.

The Bulldogs chipped the lead down to three with a 8-3 run before the Indians scored the final points of the second quarter for a 21-16 halftime lead.

Hays never led by less than five points during the second half. The Indians opened the third quarter on a 7-2 run for their first double digit lead at 28-18. They pushed the lead to eleven twice in the third quarter including 34-24 in between quarters.

The Indians led by at least ten points for the entire fourth quarter, winning 48-25.

Jordan Dale led the Indians with a career high tying 15 points. Carson Kieffer added 11 and Jace Linenberger 10. Trevor Pierce scored a game high 20 for Ark City who ends their season at 3-18.

Hays (20-1) will host Topeka Seaman (14-7) on Friday in the Sub-State Championship Game. The Vikings beat Maize South (15-6) 73-65.

She led the league in the regular season with a 3-point shooting percentage of 43.6 percent, 15th-highest in Division II. She distributed an average of 4.9 assists per game, second-most in the league and 22nd in the country, while ranking second in the MIAA and third nationally with an assist/turnover ratio of 3.37. The Alva, Okla. native ranked third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.0 points per game. She leads the team with an average of 1.6 steals per game. This is the ninth time the Tigers have had a player selected on the All-MIAA first team, and Hobbs is just the second Tiger player to earn multiple first team selections (Kate Lehman 2013, 2014 and 2015). She is the eighth Tiger to earn a trio of All-MIAA honors, joining Kacey Kennett, Tatyana Legette, Carly Heim, Jill Faxon, Beth Bohuslavsky, Kate Lehman and Kaitlyn Edwards. Vitztum is averaging 15.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this season. He leads the MIAA in rebounding and ranks 18th&nbsp;nationally. He scored in double figures 23 times this year and dished out three or more assists in a game 16 times. He scored 20 or more points in a game six times this season. Wright earns the first All-MIAA selection of his career at Fort Hays State. Going into the conference tournament, he is averaging 11.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. He has reached double figures in scoring 17 times this season with 18 points as his high mark in back-to-back contests against Northwest Missouri State and Missouri Southern. Wright is shooting 43 percent beyond the 3-point line this season, which is best on the team and would rank second in the MIAA if he had enough made to qualify for the list. His 52 made 3-point field goals is best on the team and he also leads the team in free-throw percentage (.839) for players with at least 60 attempts. He has been key for the Tigers in slowing offensive efforts on both the interior and along the perimeter when called upon to do so. Fort Hays State Men's Basketball is ranked No. 21 in the latest NABC Top 25 Poll, released on Tuesday (Mar. 1). The Tigers moved down a few slots in the rankings after a win over Missouri Western and a loss to fellow Top 25 dweller Northwest Missouri State last week. The Tigers were No. 18 in last week's poll. FHSU holds a record of 22-5 overall going into the MIAA Tournament this week in Kansas City. Fort Hays State remains one of three teams from the MIAA and one of six from the NCAA Central Region in the Top 25 this week. The Fort Hays State women's basketball team moved up in both national polls after wrapping up the regular season with two solid wins last week. The Tigers (25-3, 19-3 MIAA) will now head into the postseason ranked fifth in the WBCA DII Coaches Poll and sixth in the D2SIDA Media Poll. This is the third time the Tigers have been ranked fifth in the coaches poll this season along with back-to-back polls in December. 🏀 Monday's Sub-State results

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Davion Warren and 12th-ranked Texas Tech&nbsp;had a perfect ending at home.

Warren's 23 points included the go-ahead basket with 1:05 left, and the Red Raiders finished undefeated on their home court with a 73-68 win over Kansas State&nbsp;in a back-and-forth game Monday night.

"Nobody has beat us at home and we knew Kansas State wanted to do that tonight, and we knew it wasn't going to be easy," Warren said. "So just stay the course, stay level-headed the whole game and get the job done"

Bryson Williams added 10 points for Texas Tech (23-7, 12-5 Big 12), which finished 18-0 at home and has won 21 in a row there going back to last season.

"This is probably the craziest environment we’ve played this year," said Selton Miguel, who had 12 of his 14 points for K-State after halftime.

Williams and Warren, first-year transfers but among five Red Raiders seniors recognized before the game, combined for 18 of their last 20 points.

There were nine ties and eight lead changes in the second half, the last on Warren's jumper that hit the front of the front of the rim, bounced up and then fell through to make it 69-68. He added two free throws with 13 seconds left.

"Very proud of him. ... Davion, he kind of took the game over," coach Mark Adams said. "They were double-teaming Bryson. Bryson obviously has a good game night in and night out."

Kansas State (14-15, 6-11), which played without standout guard Markquis Nowell (hamstring), missed two 3-pointers in the final minute. Mike McGuirl missed one before Nijel Pack's shot from beyond the arc was blocked by Mylik Wilson — a play K-State thought was a foul.

McGuirl had 18 points while playing all 40 minutes for the Wildcats, whose NCAA Tournament hopes may have taken a fatal blow. It was their seventh Big 12 loss by five points or less, and came two days after their one-point loss at home to Iowa State.

"We were undermanned without Markquis ... but we came and played against one of the top teams in the country in a place that no one’s beat them here," coach Bruce Weber said. "And, you know, we played them till the end like we’ve done all year."

Back-to-back 3s by McGuirl and Pack (13 points) tied the game at 50, and Kansas State went ahead on a jumper by Miguel. But the margin was never more than three points for either team until Warren's final free throws in the closest game of Tech's 21-game home winning streak.

The Red Raiders finished the first half with a 14-2 run, with Williams scoring their first eight points in that span and Warren's late 3-pointer making it 39-31 at the half.

Kansas State got even at 40-40 on Mark Smith's 3-pointer less than 2 1/2 minutes into the second half. The Wildcats' senior guard scored seven points in a row over a 42-second span and finished with 11. .

Kansas State: The Wildcats started 9-of-14 shooting with five made 3s to go ahead 23-14 midway through the first half. But they couldn't build on that early momentum, going 3 of 12 from the field the rest of the half without another bucket from beyond the arc.

Texas Tech: The Red Raiders entered the game tied with No. 7 Kentucky (17-0) for the most home wins without a loss this season. "The crowd’s unbelievable here. ... It might be better than Kansas to be honest. The noise, the music, the energy," Weber said. ... The only of the five seniors in the program multiple seasons is second-year transfer Marcus Santos-Silva.

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs use a pair of big runs and
have three score in double-figures on their way to a 71-39 win over Goodland Monday
at Al Billinger Fieldhouse in Hays to advance to the second-round of the 3A Goodland
sub-state.

Goodland took a 2-0 lead to open the game but TMP (17-4)
answered with a quick 8-0 run capped off by a Bryce Seib 3-pointer.

After Goodland (7-14) got back within one at 8-7 TMP
finished the quarter and opened the second on an 11-0 run to go up by double-digits
at 19-7.

Jace Wentling scored six of his 11 points in the second
quarter helping TMP build a 30-17 halftime lead.

TMP’s Kenton Ginther hit three third quarter 3-point field
goals and Dylan Werth scored six of his game-high 20 points as the Monarchs
outscored Goodland 19-5 in the third quarter.

Five quick points by Gavin Unrein early in the fourth quarter
put TMP up 62-32 and with the running clock to close out the game TMP went on
to the 71-39 victory.

Dylan Werth led TMP with 20 points, his second straight
20-point performance. Gavin Unrein added 16 points and Jace Wentling finished
with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Goodland’s Brady Brumbaugh scored a career-high 10 points in
the loss.

TMP will take on Scott City in the sub-state semifinals in
Goodland after the Beavers upset Russell Monday 49-39.

The bottom side of the bracket saw Norton beat Colby 67-46
and Phillipsburg got passed Hoisington 52-41.

FHSU battled back to just a one-run deficit with a big fifth inning, but came up empty on scoring chances in the sixth and seventh as the Cougars held on for a 7-6 win over the Tigers. The Tigers have now had five consecutive splits on their last five dates of competition. Meanwhile, the Tigers offense was able to produce baserunners in the second, third, and fourth innings, but could not find a run as the game remained scoreless going to the fifth. Flynn ran into some trouble in the fifth when she allowed a leadoff walk and then a well-placed bunt single that broke up her no-hit bid. After a sacrifice bunt, the Mustangs scored the game's first run on an RBI grounder on the infield. Since the throw was offline, SMSU kept two on base with a 1-0 lead. 🥎 FHSU splits in Topeka

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Fort Hays State women's track and field team had one individual champion, broke two school records and totaled two All-MIAA medals Sunday (Feb. 27) on the final day of the 2022 MIAA Indoor Championships. The Tigers had five provisional marks on the day, finishing the week with four All-MIAA honors, eight provisional performances and two school records. FHSU place fifth as a team with 65 team points, the top finish at the indoor league meet and the top point total for the Tigers since FHSU joined the MIAA in 2006-07. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6538">Lyric Holman</a>&nbsp;won the MIAA title in the 60m dash for the second year in a row, leading the field with a time of 7.47. It was her third first-place finish at a league meet in her career along with one outdoor 100m dash title. The junior sprinter later earned her seventh All-MIAA accolade after breaking her school record and finishing second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.32. At the end of the day Holman teamed up with&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6534">Kendra Clary</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6551">Taylor Savolt</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6549">Mattie Rossi</a>&nbsp;to break the school record in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:48.58. The team placed fifth in the race after shaving close to three seconds off the top mark in school history. Savolt and Rossi also competed in other events on Sunday, with Savolt finishing fourth in the triple jump with a top leap of 39-0.5. Rossi placed seventh in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.68.  </figure><a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/index.aspx">FHSU Athletics</a>MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Fort Hays State women's track and field team had one individual champion, broke two school records and totaled two All-MIAA medals Sunday (Feb. 27) on the final day of the 2022 MIAA Indoor Championships. The Tigers had five provisional marks on the day, finishing the week with four All-MIAA honors, eight provisional performances and two school records. FHSU place fifth as a team with 65 team points, the top finish at the indoor league meet and the top point total for the Tigers since FHSU joined the MIAA in 2006-07. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6538">Lyric Holman</a>&nbsp;won the MIAA title in the 60m dash for the second year in a row, leading the field with a time of 7.47. It was her third first-place finish at a league meet in her career along with one outdoor 100m dash title. The junior sprinter later earned her seventh All-MIAA accolade after breaking her school record and finishing second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.32. At the end of the day Holman teamed up with&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6534">Kendra Clary</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6551">Taylor Savolt</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6549">Mattie Rossi</a>&nbsp;to break the school record in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:48.58. The team placed fifth in the race after shaving close to three seconds off the top mark in school history. Savolt and Rossi also competed in other events on Sunday, with Savolt finishing fourth in the triple jump with a top leap of 39-0.5. Rossi placed seventh in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.68. The Tigers also got one team point from the mile run, where&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6540">Gretchen Kuffel</a>&nbsp;placed eighth with a time of 5:02.15, the second-fastest time on the FHSU DII era performance chart. The Tigers will now await the release of the selected entries for the NCAA DII Indoor Championships, scheduled to be released on NCAA.com on Tuesday afternoon (March 1). 🏃‍♀️ FHSU women fifth at MIAA Championship, Holman wins 60m

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Fort Hays State men's track and field team had two individual champions, broke two school records and racked up four All-MIAA medals Sunday (Feb. 27) on the final day of the 2022 MIAA Indoor Championships. The Tigers had 10 provisional marks on the day, finishing the week with six All-MIAA honors, 15 provisional performances and five school records. FHSU place fifth as a team with 81 team points, tied for the top team finish in the indoor meet since the Tigers joined the MIAA in 2006-07. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6513">Ryan Stanley</a>&nbsp;now has an MIAA Championship to go along with his NCAA DII outdoor pole vault national championship from last season. The junior was one of two athletes to clear the bar at 17-2.25, doing so on his first attempt. The height is another record for Stanley, one-half inch higher than his previous best set earlier this year. Stanley only had one miss leading up to the final bar, while Vincent Hobbie of Central Missouri had two misses at 16-10.25 to break the tie and give Stanley the gold medal. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6499">Ethan Lang</a>&nbsp;successfully defended his title in the 600y run, winning the event for a second year in a row. The Hays native ran a 1:10.37 in the finals, just off his school-record pace of 1:10.29 from the prelims on Saturday. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6498">Philip Landrum</a>&nbsp;picked up his seventh career All-MIAA honor via a third-place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 6.86.  </figure><a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/index.aspx">FHSU Athletics</a>MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Fort Hays State men's track and field team had two individual champions, broke two school records and racked up four All-MIAA medals Sunday (Feb. 27) on the final day of the 2022 MIAA Indoor Championships. The Tigers had 10 provisional marks on the day, finishing the week with six All-MIAA honors, 15 provisional performances and five school records. FHSU place fifth as a team with 81 team points, tied for the top team finish in the indoor meet since the Tigers joined the MIAA in 2006-07. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6513">Ryan Stanley</a>&nbsp;now has an MIAA Championship to go along with his NCAA DII outdoor pole vault national championship from last season. The junior was one of two athletes to clear the bar at 17-2.25, doing so on his first attempt. The height is another record for Stanley, one-half inch higher than his previous best set earlier this year. Stanley only had one miss leading up to the final bar, while Vincent Hobbie of Central Missouri had two misses at 16-10.25 to break the tie and give Stanley the gold medal. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6499">Ethan Lang</a>&nbsp;successfully defended his title in the 600y run, winning the event for a second year in a row. The Hays native ran a 1:10.37 in the finals, just off his school-record pace of 1:10.29 from the prelims on Saturday. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6498">Philip Landrum</a>&nbsp;picked up his seventh career All-MIAA honor via a third-place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 6.86. He later placed sixth in the 200m dash after crossing the line in 21.74. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6510">Xavier Robinson</a>&nbsp;also picked up a spot on the All-MIAA podium after finishing third in the triple jump, posting a top jump of 48-4.75 on his second attempt of the day.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6521">Blake Harnden</a>&nbsp;added another point to the total for the Tigers after finishing eighth with a top mark of 44-8. ⚾ Felton, Schmidt homer, but Ichabods rally to beat Tigers

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The sixth-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team won its fourth MIAA regular season title and became the first team to win back-to-back championships since 2012-13 with a 69-47 road win over Northwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon (Feb. 26). The Tigers put the hammer down in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bearcats 23-6 while hitting 75 percent from the floor to lock down the win and the 13th conference championship in program history. It was a tale of two quarters in the first half, with the Tigers shooting better than 50 percent in the first before struggling in the second quarter. Northwest did the exact opposite, hitting only three baskets over the first 10 minutes before burying 50 percent from the floor in the second period. 🏀 Tiger women win second-straight MIAA title, beat Bearcats by 22

Hays High Gavin Meyers finished out his senior season with a perfect record and collected his first career state championship at 220 pounds Saturday at the 5A state wrestling tournament at Hartman Arena in Park City.

Sophomore Harley Zimmerman joined Meyers in bringing home a medal Saturday finishing second at 132 pounds.

Meyers, who is now a three-time state placer, pinned his way to the finals on Friday and then capped off the championship with a 5-2 win over Torin Forsyth from Blue Valley Southwest to claim the state title.

Zimmerman also had a strong run to get to the championship match.&nbsp;

On Friday he won by a first-round fall, injury default and a 10-3 decision to get to the finals.

But in the finals Saturday he lost an 8-5 matchup with Hayden Mills from Blue Valley Southwest.

Zimmerman finished 44-4 and after finished fourth as a freshman he is a two-time state placer.

The Indians finished 23rd as a team with 65 points.

The No. 13 ranked Bearcats won by a score of 57-49 over the No. 18 ranked Tigers. FHSU finished third in the MIAA standings at 17-5 and finished the regular season at 22-5 overall. Northwest Missouri State (25-5, 18-4 MIAA) shared the MIAA regular season title with Central Oklahoma (23-5, 18-4 MIAA), which defeated Missouri Southern. It is their ninth straight regular season title, but their seven-year run of winning the title outright came to an end.

After going up 7-6 in the first half, Fort Hays State went cold offensively and saw Northwest Missouri State go on a 15-0 run to take a 21-7 lead. The Tigers were held scoreless for nearly 10 minutes before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6468">Jared Vitztum</a>&nbsp;hit a jumper to end the cold spell. The Bearcats went into the locker room with a comfortable 29-15 lead. That comfortable lead became uncomfortable in the second half as the Tigers began chipping away at the Bearcat lead with their usual tough defense.  🏀 Comeback effort comes up short for Tiger men at NWMSU

WACO, Texas (AP) — Jeremy Sochan and his teammates kept encouraging each other after 10th-ranked Baylor got down big early again against No. 5 Kansas, only three weeks after an embarrassing loss to the Jayhawks. The Bears then started making big impact plays.

Sochan had a block that led to a layup by Adam Flagler right after his two-handed slam dunk in a big run before halftime, and the Bears finally took the lead after the break in an 80-70 victory aturday night that kept the Jayhawks from wrapping up a share of their 20th Big 12 title.

“They were the aggressor in the first game and in the first six minutes this time,” Sochan said. “But we matched their mentality and their strength and just beat them.”

The Bears (24-5, 12-4 Big 12) didn’t take a lead until the opening minute after halftime, and went ahead to stay at 65-63 on Flo Thamba’s jumper with 4:07 left. That came after Ochai Agbaji, who had 27 points for Kansas, made a tying 3-pointer. Thamba finished with a career-high 18 points.

“Definitely a lost opportunity,” Agbaji said.

The Bears took their first lead with a blistering opening minute of the second half, with Kendall Brown blocking a shot and then running the court for a slam dunk after a long bounce pass from James Akinjo that made 33-32 and sent the record crowd of 10,628 into a frenzy.

There was then a technical foul assessed against Self, who was irate that there wasn't a foul called on a shot by Christian Braun. Self was near midcourt after the non-call, which came after the Jayhawks never went to the free throw line before halftime. James Akinjo made both free throws.

Braun had 17 points and 10 rebounds. David McCormack had 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Adam Flagler added 13 points for Baylor, while Akinjo had 12. Matthew Mayer had nine points and 12 rebounds.

Thamba, the big man remaining after Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua's season-ending left knee injury two weeks ago, had 12 of Baylor's first 17 points.

“I felt like our guards early on in the game tried to force some unnecessary shots,” Thamba said. “But once we started getting easies, attacking the lane and offensive rebound opportunities were there, so it was just finishes.”

Baylor was down 28-15, matching its largest deficit, before a layup by Thamba ignited a 10-0 run. The Bears were within 28-25 after Sochan blocked a shot and swatted it to Flager, drove the court and witched the ball from his left to right hand in the air for the layup.

Kansas: The Jayhawks still control their fate in trying to win the Big 12 for he 20th time in the league's 26 seasons.
