The TMP-Marian boys and girls basketball teams earned a doubleheader sweep of the Stockton Tigers Friday night in their Mid-Continent League opener in Stockton.
GIRLS: TMP 54, Stockton 22
The TMP girls held Stockton to just four points in the second
half and cruised to a 54-22 win, their first of the season.
The Monarchs (1-3, 1-0 MCL) opened the game on a 13-2 run thanks to seven first quarter points from Jaci VonLintel.
But the Monarchs subbed in a younger group and that allowed Stockton to close within one at the end of the first quarter 13-12.
In the second quarter the Monarchs opened the quarter with an 11-2 run and outscored the Tigers 15-6 taking a 28-18 lead into halftime.
TMP outscored Stockton in the second half 27-4 on their way to the 54-22 victory.
VonLintel led the Monarchs with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Brooke Koenigsman also scored in double figures with 11.
BOYS: TMP 72, Stockton 6The TMP boys outscored Stockton 40-0 in the first quarter on their way to a 72-6 win.
TMP鈥檚 Dylan Werth scored a game-high 17 points in the first quarter and tallied eight rebounds. Griffin Schumacher added a career-high eight as the Monarchs (2-2, 1-0 MCL) led 40-0 after one quarter.
They led 58-3 at halftime thanks to a career-high eight points from William Eck.
With the continuous clock in the second half the Monarchs younger group got a chance to play the entire half in the blow out win.
The TMP boys and girls return to action on Jan. 6 at Salina-Sacred Heart.
