KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State sophomore Cade Lindsey has been announced as the latest MIAA Wrestler of the Week, released Tuesday (Dec. 13) by the league office. This is the third weekly honor for a Tiger this season, more than any other team in the conference.
Lindsey turned in a dominant performance at the Bob Smith Open, taking home first place at 174 pounds after defeating his four opponents by a combined score of 52-2. The sophomore did not give up an offensive point all day. All four wins were bonus-point affairs, including a 17-2 technical fall in his first round, a first-period pin in the quarterfinals, a 16-0 technical fall in the semifinals and a 9-0 major decision in the championship.
A native of Derby, Kan., Lindsey is 16-2 so far this season. Nine of his wins have been bonus-point victories, including one pin, four technical falls and four major decisions. He has reached the placement round at all three open tournaments so far this season.
The Tigers will compete once more before taking a break for the holiday season, with FHSU off to Indianapolis this weekend (Dec. 17-18) for the 43rd Midwest Classic.
