This is Schmidt's second All-MIAA honor and the first for Kehe in his first year of intercollegiate competition. Jenner led the team in hits (49), runs (36), walks (26), on-base percentage (.391) and stolen bases (12). He was nominated as a utility player after starting 33 games at second base and 12 at first base. The redshirt-freshman hit safely in his first six games at the collegiate level while opening his career with an 18-game streak of reaching base safely. The Golden, Colo. native tied for the team lead with 12 multi-hit games, including a pair of four-hit contests. Kehe posted a fielding percentage of .969 with 138 putouts, 80 assists and just seven errors in 225 chances on the infield. Grant was the team leader in batting average (.294), slugging percentage (.619), home runs (14), doubles (10) and RBI (51). The Hastings, Neb. native tied for ninth in the league in home runs and was 12th in RBI. He started all 45 games for the Tigers, including 38 in left field, six in right field and once as the designated hitter. The senior wrapped up his career with a home run in his final at-bat as a Tiger, one of three home runs in his final series of the season. He finished the year on a seven-game hitting streak, tied for the longest of the season on the team and the second-longest in his career. Both receive the honor based off athletic accomplishments and dedication to strength and training, nominated for the award by Fort Hays State Strength and Conditioning Coach&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=725">Doug Boucher</a>. Angram-Boldin was a Don Hansen All-America Honorable Mention selection as an offensive lineman for the 2021 season. He was a three-time All-MIAA selection for the Tigers in football, including first-team honors in 2021. He was also an All-Super Region 3 First Team selection by the D2CCA in 2021. He made 34 consecutive starts for the Tigers dating back to the start of his sophomore season of 2018. He helped the Tiger offense generate a new school record for first downs gained in a season three straight years. Angram-Boldin helped the Tigers to back-to-back MIAA Championships in 2017 and 2018 and the Tigers had a record of 33-13 during his four years on the field. Angram-Boldin is a native of Pahokee, Florida. Breckbill played softball for five years at FHSU from 2018-2022, utilizing her extra COVID year after the 2020 season was cut short due to the pandemic. She is a three-time All-MIAA selection, garnering honors as both a catcher and utility player. Breckbill is also a two-time MIAA Scholar-Athlete and will be a five-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. She finished her career with 226 games played, the most in FHSU softball history. She led the team in RBIs (31) and tied for the team lead in home runs (7) for the 2022 season, and tied for the NCAA Division II lead in sacrifice flies by the end of the regular season with seven. FHSU's Angram-Boldin, Breckbill receive 2022 NSCA All-American Athlete Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Yadier Molina wasn't going to let an illness that kept the Cardinals catcher out of the previous day's lineup also keep him from walking onto the field with Adam Wainwright for the 310th time on Wednesday.

Nor was Molina going to take the rest of the day off after St. Louis jumped out to a big lead.

“He felt terrible (yesterday) and today felt terrible,” Wainwright said of his longtime teammate, who caught him for seven innings of one-hit ball in a 10-0 win over the Kansas City Royals on a cold, damp day at Kauffman Stadium.

“I told him if he just wanted to play five and leave, I'd understand. But he didn't want to leave me out there.”

Rarely is one ever on the field without the other.

Wainwright and Molina, who went 1 for 5 at the plate, tied the Braves’ Warren Spahn and Del Crandall for the most team wins by starting battery mates with their 202nd together.

Now, Wainwright and Molina need just six more starts to match Spahn and Crandall for second in history behind Mickey Lolich and Bill Freehan of the Tigers.

“The battery mates is awesome,” Wainwright said, “but the winning is the cool part.”

Wainwright (3-3) allowed just a one-out single to Michael Taylor in the third against the weak-hitting Royals, whose only other baserunners against the 40-year-old right-hander came on a fielder's choice, an error and a walk.

Meanwhile, the slumbering St. Louis offense came alive in a big way: Nolan Arenado hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs, Tyler O'Neill hit a two-run shot and drove in three, and Harrison Bader and Paul DeJong also drove in runs.

“We've just got to be better. I believe we're better,” Arenado said. “Some guys just aren't comfortable yet. That will come.”

The final scheduled game between the cross-state rivals this year was moved from a night game to the afternoon because of the threat of rain, though sprinkles still fell on the sparse Kauffman Stadium crowd midway through it.

By that point, the few fans still in their seats were mostly wearing red.

It took a mere 17 pitches from Kris Bubic (0-3) for Tommy Edman and Paul Goldschmidt to work leadoff walks and Arenado to turn on a 2-1 pitch, depositing it 410 feet away in the left-field stands and giving the Cardinals a 3-0 lead.

The three runs were more than they had scored against Kansas City the past two games combined.

“You’re going to give up homers, that’s going to happen,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said, “but free bases in front of them are going to add up."

Albert Pujols, who brashly proclaimed pregame that “I'm going to do some damage today,” promptly flied out. But the rest of the St. Louis lineup kept on wrecking: Juan Yepez blooped a single to right for his first big league hit, O'Neill drove him in with a triple and Bader provided a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0 before the Royals had a turn to bat.

The final line on Bubic: four runs and two hits and two walks while retiring a single batter.

“I told Nolan if they want to score five runs for me the first inning the rest of the year, that's fine,” Wainwright said. “I'm good with that plan.”

Yepez, who was recalled from Triple-A Memphis to replace ailing INF Edmundo Sosa a day earlier, got the start in RF in his big league debut. He finished 2 for 3 with a pair of bloop doubles down the right-field line.

Royals C MJ Melendez got his first start behind the plate Wednesday. Last year's minor league home run champ went 1 for 3 after also getting a hit as the DH in his big league debut Tuesday night.

Cardinals: No new COVID-19 cases were reported after Sosa and four staff members tested positive and were sent back to St. Louis for quarantine. The Cardinals are taking RHP Jake Walsh and C Ali Sanchez from the taxi squad on their upcoming trip in case more positives occur. “I’ll clean the toilets if I need to. I just want to stay,” Walsh said.

With the top three teams and the top two individuals not on those teams moving on to the National Championships in Gainesville, Ga., Brasser finished one shot back of the final individual qualifying slot. An honorable mention All-MIAA selection for the second year in a row, Brasser finished third amongst the 27 MIAA golfers at this year's regional. Brasser was the top finisher out of the six individuals selected to compete in the field this season, overcoming a six-stroke deficit after round one to beat MWSU's Allycia Gan by one shot. The Andale, Kan. native bogeyed six of her first 11 holes before finishing the tournament with seven consecutive pars. ⛳ FHSU's Brasser finishes seventh at regional championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Bobby Witt Jr. hit his first major league home run, Brad Keller pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning and the Kansas City Royals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-1 Tuesday night to end a four-game losing streak.

Witt connected for a solo homer in the second inning. The prized rookie extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

“I thought it was in the gap for a double,” Witt said. “I should have hit that first pitch that was right down the middle. It’s always good to get the first of something out of the way, no matter what it is.”

Witt had two hits and two RBIs and scored twice. MJ Melendez got a hit in his big league debut and Edward Olivares had a career-high four of the Royals’ 15 hits.

Keller (1-2) allowed four hits in 6.1 innings, walked three and struck out two. He permitted a baserunner in every inning but the sixth, but never more than one until the seventh.

“Whenever guys got on I tried to bear down and make pitches,” Keller said. “My fastball command wasn’t as (good) as it could be, but to able to go to the slider and get outs was big for me today.”

Witt homered off Dakota Hudson (2-2), hitting an 0-1 changeup 417 feet into the bleachers in left center.

Witt came up in the fourth with no outs and runners on the corners and grounded into a double play that scored a run.

Hudson left after issuing a leadoff walk in the seventh to Nicky Lopez with the Royals ahead 2-0. Olivares hit an RBI trouble and Andrew Benintendi, Whit Merrifield, Witt and Michael Taylor also had RBIs in the inning.

“I was really happy to see (a five-run inning in the seventh) after we had a chance early on and let it slip through our fingers,” Kansas City manager Mike Matheny said. “Brad was fantastic. It was probably not his sharpest stuff, but he was really good.”

The Cards got a run in the eighth on Tyler O’Neill’s single.

Cardinals SS Edmundo Sosa, along with three members of the Cardinals medical staff and one clubhouse attendant, tested positive for COVID-19. Sosa was placed on the COVID-19 injured list.

Cardinals: C Yadier Molina was scratched with non-COVID illness. Manager Oli Marmol was confident he’d be back in the lineup on Wednesday. Molina was replaced in the starting lineup by Andrew Knizner.

Royals: 1B Carlos Santana was a late scratch with right ankle soreness. His spot in the lineup was taken by Ryan O’Hearn.

May 17 with stops in Salina (2-4 p.m.) and Great Bend (6-8 p.m.), and 
continues on Wednesday, May 18, in Hays (8:30-10 a.m.), Colby (11:30 
a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) and Scott City (6-8 p.m.), while week one of the tour 
finishes on Thursday, May 19 as it hits Liberal (8-10 a.m.), Dodge City 
(2-4 p.m.) and Garden City (6-8 p.m.).

⛳ FHSU's Brasser goes under par, up to fifth

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs used a pair of solid pitching
performances and timely hitting to complete a doubleheader sweep of Sacred
Heart Tuesday in Hays.

Game 1: TMP 4, Sacred Heart 2 TMP senior starter Jace Wentling allowed just two hits in
five and two-thirds shutout innings as the Monarchs took the first game Tuesday
afternoon at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex 4-2.

The Monarchs struck first in the bottom of the first inning
when Wentling drove in the game’s first run with an RBI double. Two batters
later Nick Helget singled home Wentling giving TMP a 2-0 lead at the end of one
inning.

On the mound Wentling was extremely efficient, it took him
just 60 pitches to pitch into the sixth inning. 

The five and two-thirds innings pitched is a new
career-high for Wentling. He struck out five and did not allow a run as he picked up his
first win of the season. 

TMP added a third run on a wild pitch in the fifth and
another on a error in the sixth as they held on for the 4-2 win.

Nick Herrman was two-for-four at the top of the lineup for
TMP.

Game 2: TMP 5, Sacred Heart 2 In game two, three TMP pitchers combined to allow a pair of
runs on four hits and Jace Wentling hit his first homerun of the season as the
Monarchs picked up the 5-2 victory.

TMP starter Nick Herrman retired the first nine hitters he
faced before allowing a single to start the fourth inning. The run would
eventually come into score after Herrman departed the game in the fourth.

Just like in game one TMP jumped out to an early 2-0 lead
thanks to Wentling's first homerun of the season, a two-run shot in the first
inning.

Herrman, didn’t factor into the decision but allowed just
one run one hit in three and two-thirds innings. He struck out three hitters.

Bryce Conner, in his first appearance of the season, picked
up the win. He allowed just two hits with three strikeouts in two and a
third-innings of work.

Leading 2-1, the Monarchs battered around in the bottom of
the sixth inning scoring three straight runs on three straight RBI singles to
building a 5-1 lead.

Sacred Heart added a run in the seventh but the Monarchs
were able to secure the 5-2 victory.

Griffin Schumacher collected a pair of hits for TMP and was
two-for-three with a run scored. Jace Wentling drove in a pair of runs.

TMP improved to 8-4 with a pair of wins. Sacred Heart
dropped to 8-6.

The Monarchs return to action Thursday at home against
Goodland.

HAYS - Hays High closed out the home portion of their regular season and finished Western Athletic Conference play on Tuesday versus Liberal at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex.

Game 1: Hays 5, Liberal 4 Riley Dreher lifted a pitch to left field deep enough to allow Aubree Thomas to tag and score from third for a bottom of the seventh walk-off victory over Liberal 5-4.

Hays committed three errors in the first inning allowing Liberal to lead 2-0. Hays scored single runs in the each the second, third and fourth innings to tie the game at three before the Redskins hit a solo home run in the fifth for a 4-3 advantage.

The Indians tied the game again in the sixth when Morgan Berry crossed the plate. Hays prevented the Redskins from scoring in the seventh following a passed ball that was thrown back to the plate in time for a tag.

Dreher's game winning sacrifice fly came after Liberal committed a pair of errors to open the seventh, putting runners at the corners with nobody out.&nbsp;

Aubree Thomas (5-5) took the victory working seven innings allowing eight hits, four runs, two earned.&nbsp;

Game 2: Hays 9, Liberal 8 Morgen Berry drove in four of the Indians nine runs in the second game, including the game winner in the seventh inning scoring Lakyn Zimmerman.&nbsp;

Berry hit a three run double to push Hays out front in the bottom of the first inning. Berry then scored one batter later for a 4-0 Indian advantage. Liberal responded back with three runs over the next two innings pulling within one at 4-3.

Liberal took their first lead by scoring three runs in the seventh at 8-7. The Indians took the lead back on the only three batters that came to the plate in the seventh. Riley Dreher led off with a single. She would score on a single by Lakyn Zimmerman who then moved to third on a Liberal error. Berry drove in Zimmerman for the game winner.

Hays has won six in a row and now sits at 12-6 and finish 8-4 in conference play. Liberal falls to 8-9 and 1-8. They have been involved in six straight one run games, winning just one of them.

Hays is off until next week when they finish their regular season at Andover Central to play Central and Salina South.

HAYS - The TMP-Marian softball teams had their games with Plainville/Stockton moved to their home field due to playing conditions following Monday's rain and the Monarchs took full advantage of it, winning 19-6 and 17-2.

TMP has now won five of their last seven to improve to 8-6. They play a doubleheader in Great Bend Thursday.

NEW ORLEANS - Both Fort Hays State track and field teams will head into the 2022 MIAA Outdoor Championships ranked in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA DII National Rating Index. The women are slotted 17th this week while the men are 22nd in the latest poll, released Tuesday by the coaches association. The women are the third-highest of five MIAA teams amongst the top 25, while the men are one of seven MIAA programs ranked in the top 25 this week. The men are fourth and the women are fifth in the latest Central Region rankings, with both teams ranked third in the latest MIAA conference power rankings. NEW ORLEANS - Both Fort Hays State track and field teams will head into the 2022 MIAA Outdoor Championships ranked in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA DII National Rating Index. The women are slotted 17th this week while the men are 22nd in the latest poll, released Tuesday by the coaches association. The women are the third-highest of five MIAA teams amongst the top 25, while the men are one of seven MIAA programs ranked in the top 25 this week. The men are fourth and the women are fifth in the latest Central Region rankings, with both teams ranked third in the latest MIAA conference power rankings. Tuesday he made his college choice official by signing a letter of intent to play for University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. The NCAA Division II Lions finished 14-13 this past season and play in the Lone Star Conference.

Linenberger was part of a three year run that resulted in two 5A state basketball tournament appearances and a sub-state runner up finish. The 2020 season was cut short due to COVID, the Indians are left as one of the "Forever Four" teams that would have played in the semifinals. Hays hosted and lost the first round of state in a modified tournament in 2021. The Indians lost to eventual state champions Topeka Seaman in the sub-state championship game on their home floor to end 2022.

HAYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State head baseball coach Jerod Goodale&nbsp;has announced his resignation due to personal reasons after four years at the helm. ⛳ FHSU's Brasser 15th after first round of regionals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs placed an unrestricted free-agent tender on defensive end Melvin Ingram and traded for Houston cornerback Lonnie Johnson on Monday, hoping to add two more pieces to a defense that was revamped during the NFL draft.

The seldom-used UFA tender means the Chiefs essentially offered Ingram a $4.4 million contract for next season, which represents 110% of his pay from last season, while still giving the veteran pass rusher the chance to negotiate with other teams.

If Ingram signs elsewhere before July 22, though, the Chiefs could earn a compensatory pick in next year's draft.

The Chiefs improved one of the league's worst pass rushes last season by drafting Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis in the first round Thursday night, then adding Wisconsin linebacker Leo Chenal in the third round Friday night. But the Chiefs had otherwise done little in free agency to improve a group that suddenly plays in a division featuring quarterbacks Russell Wilson in Denver, Justin Herbert in Los Angeles and Derek Carr in Las Vegas.

Ingram arrived in Kansas City in a midseason trade with Pittsburgh last season, when the Chiefs were trying to inject some life in their dismal pass rush. He had four sacks and 33 pressures in nine regular-season games and three playoff games.

The Chiefs also acquired Johnson from the Texans on Monday, sending a conditional seventh-round draft pick for him. His acquisition came after the Chiefs used the No. 21 overall pick on Washington defensive back Trent McDuffie and a fourth-round pick on Fayetteville State's Joshua Williams along with drafting a pair of safeties.

Johnson started seven of 14 games last season in Houston, playing alongside safety Justin Reid, who signed with the Chiefs earlier in free agency. The second-round pick in the 2019 draft has started 19 of 44 games in his career.

Matz (3-1) scattered four hits, including a pair of doubles, in six innings. He walked none, hit a batter and struck out four.

Matz had allowed five runs over his previous three starts, spanning 14 2/3 innings, after yielding seven in his Cardinals debut on April 10.

St. Louis relievers Kodi Whitley, Nick Wittgren and Giovanny Gallegos were equally sharp, each pitching an inning in the combined five-hitter. Gallegos gave up a two-out single in the ninth but picked up his fifth save in six chances.

Greinke (0-2) gave up three hits in six innings. The 18-year big league veteran made the 493rd start of his career and didn’t walk anyone with one strikeout.

Carlos Santana had two of the Royals’ five hits. The Cardinals managed just four hits in the game.

Of the 18 players who got an at-bat in his game, half of them — nine — now have a batting average of .196 or lower this season. The Cardinals and Royals combined for 12 strikeouts and one walk.

Major League Baseball hitters finished April with a paltry .231 batting average, on pace to fall below the record low of .237 in 1968 when Cardinals great Bob Gibson and other pitchers dominated.

Since interleague play began in 1997, the Cardinals’ 61.017 winning percentage (72-46) against the Royals is the best across MLB among interleague natural rivals.

Royals CF Michael Taylor robbed Andrew Knizer of a home run in the fifth when he caught the ball over the wall in right center and pulled it back in, drawing applause from the crowd for his feat. … In the sixth, Gold Glove LF Tyler O’Neill dove and snagged a line drive by the Royals’ Whit Merrifield just before it hit the grass.

⚾ Royals bats stay silent in loss to Cardinals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Aaron Judge homered twice to run his long-ball streak to three straight games, added the tying RBI in the seventh inning and helped the New York Yankees rally past the Kansas City Royals 6-4 on Sunday for their ninth straight win.

Judge has hit five home runs in his last five games and eight this season.

Clarke Schmidt (2-2) pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Yankees starter Luis Severino. Aroldis Chapman left the tying run on base in the ninth inning to earn his sixth save on the year and 20th in a row.

Judge returned from a scheduled day off to connect off Daniel Lynch for a drive estimated at 453 feet to center in the first inning. He added another no-doubt shot in the ninth.

But it was the big slugger's checked-swing groundout, which traveled about 30 feet, that tied the game in the seventh. The oopsie RBI came after the Yankees had loaded the bases against Dylan Coleman (0-1) with nobody out, and Josh Donaldson followed it with a go-ahead grounder that gave New York the lead for good.

The Yankees, riding the longest winning streak in the majors, improved to 16-6. It's only the fourth time since 1959 that the 27-time World Series champions have won at least 16 of their first 22 games.

Michael Taylor homered for Kansas City, which has lost eight of its last 10.

The Royals looked as if they might avoid the sweep when Nicky Lopez, Whit Merrifield and Andrew Benintendi loaded the bases in the third inning. Severino's wild pitch allowed Lopez to score from third, and after Salvador Perez hit into a fielder's choice, Carlos Santana snuck a two-out double down the right-field line to give Kansas City a 3-1 lead.

The Royals added another run in the fourth thanks in part to an error on third baseman DJ LeMahieu, the Yankees' second in as many days. Prior to that, they had gone 13 straight games without committing one.

LeMahieu, atoning for his miscue, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each drove in a run to get the Yankees within 4-3, and Judge and Donaldson completed the comeback. Judge punctuated the win with his homer in the ninth.

⚾ No. 4 UCM takes series finale on Senior Day

Fort Hays State University unveiled plans for a new athletic complex Wednesday. The Schmidt-Bickle Athletic Complex will be a $6.5 million, two-story facility that will span nearly 20,000 square feet.

The facility is possible thanks to two generous $1.5 million-lead gifts from the Schmidt Foundation and Don and Chris Bickle. Don and Chris Bickle are longtime donors of FHSU, as were the late Bob and Pat Schmidt. Those two local couples were never afraid to dream big when it came to supporting student-athletes at Fort Hays State. That philanthropy is continued today through the generosity of the Bickles and the Schmidt Foundation, which carries on Bob’s and Pat’s legacy.

The new complex will be located adjacent to Lewis Field. It has yet to be determined whether the complex will be attached to the current Schmidt-Bickle Indoor Training Facility or if it will be a freestanding building in the south endzone of Lewis Field.

The first floor will feature a locker room and training room, and the second floor will provide football coaches offices and additional meeting rooms. A theater-style meeting room will allow the full football team to come together to review game footage.

A locker room large enough to house the entire Tiger football squad will be new for Fort Hays State. Currently, the football team is split between two locker rooms, which is not ideal, said Layke Heimerman, a senior Tiger linebacker from Halstead.

“Although I’m a senior and won’t have the opportunity to benefit from this facility, I’m very excited to see a facility like this come to FHSU, as I care deeply about the program and the future success of it,” Heimerman said. “Having the entire team under one roof will be huge for our program. Not only will this help with the development of freshmen and allow each student-athlete to feel like they’re part of the team, but it will create more camaraderie in the locker room and ultimately lead to stronger team chemistry.”

Heimerman touched on the need for new team meeting rooms as well.

“Specifically for our linebacker group, we had 16 guys this fall – all meeting in one 8x11-foot room,” he said. “Due to the lack of meeting space available, we’re forced to meet in piecemeal groups that can add stress to our players and coaches.”

The new athletic complex will improve physical needs and demands for Tiger Athletics and will also be a big plus with recruitment. A state-of-the-art building can attract and retain high-level student-athletes, which translates into more competitive teams well into the future.

“With the growth of our athletic department over the years, we have simply outgrown our current training facilities and a building like this will allow for a boost in student-athlete care,” said Nate Hepner, head athletic trainer for FHSU Athletics, who said the new facility will house a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy area including a walk-in hot tub and cold tub along with a game-changing underwater treadmill.

“With these additions, our new athletic training room will be on par with many Division I universities and professional teams, but most importantly will set us apart as a leader in sports medicine across the highly competitive MIAA conference, as well as Division II as a whole,” Hepner added. “Our student-athletes make a commitment to Fort Hays State, and the new Schmidt-Bickle Athletic Complex will showcase the university’s commitment to keeping those students healthy while they compete.”

Chris Brown, head football coach at FHSU, thanked Tiger Nation, saying “we have some of the greatest supporters in the country.”

“Words can’t explain how grateful we are. Without you and your support we wouldn’t be where we are today,” Brown said. “We appreciate all that you do for Tiger Athletics, and may God bless each and every one of you.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

Those two local couples were never afraid to dream big when it came to supporting student-athletes at Fort Hays State. That philanthropy is continued today through the generosity of the Bickles and the Schmidt Foundation, which carries on Bob’s and Pat’s legacy.The new complex will be located adjacent to Lewis Field. It has yet to be determined whether the complex will be attached to the current Schmidt-Bickle Indoor Training Facility or if it will be a freestanding building in the south endzone of Lewis Field.The first floor will feature a locker room and training room, and the second floor will provide football coaches offices and additional meeting rooms. A theater-style meeting room will allow the full football team to come together to review game footage.A locker room large enough to house the entire Tiger football squad will be new for Fort Hays State. Currently, the football team is split between two locker rooms, which is not ideal, said Layke Heimerman, a senior Tiger linebacker from Halstead.“Although I’m a senior and won’t have the opportunity to benefit from this facility, I’m very excited to see a facility like this come to FHSU, as I care deeply about the program and the future success of it,” Heimerman said. “Having the entire team under one roof will be huge for our program. Not only will this help with the development of freshmen and allow each student-athlete to feel like they’re part of the team, but it will create more camaraderie in the locker room and ultimately lead to stronger team chemistry.”Heimerman touched on the need for new team meeting rooms as well.“Specifically for our linebacker group, we had 16 guys this fall – all meeting in one 8x11-foot room,” he said. “Due to the lack of meeting space available, we’re forced to meet in piecemeal groups that can add stress to our players and coaches.”The new athletic complex will improve physical needs and demands for Tiger Athletics and will also be a big plus with recruitment. A state-of-the-art building can attract and retain high-level student-athletes, which translates into more competitive teams well into the future.“With the growth of our athletic department over the years, we have simply outgrown our current training facilities and a building like this will allow for a boost in student-athlete care,” said Nate Hepner, head athletic trainer for FHSU Athletics, who said the new facility will house a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy area including a walk-in hot tub and cold tub along with a game-changing underwater treadmill.“With these additions, our new athletic training room will be on par with many Division I universities and professional teams, but most importantly will set us apart as a leader in sports medicine across the highly competitive MIAA conference, as well as Division II as a whole,” Hepner added. “Our student-athletes make a commitment to Fort Hays State, and the new Schmidt-Bickle Athletic Complex will showcase the university’s commitment to keeping those students healthy while they compete.”Chris Brown, head football coach at FHSU, thanked Tiger Nation, saying “we have some of the greatest supporters in the country.”“Words can’t explain how grateful we are.
