HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season with another overtime victory Friday evening (March 1), completing the season sweep of Nebraska-Kearney with a 74-64 win. The Lopers (18-10, 12-10 MIAA) hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send things into overtime, but the Tigers (22-6, 16-6 MIAA) outscored the visitors 13-3 in the extra period to earn their second-consecutive overtime win.

It was the first time the Tigers played back-to-back overtime games since January 2011 (1/22 64-60 win at Lincoln, 1/26 75-70 win at Nebraska-Omaha).

The Tigers conclude the regular season with 16 conference wins, enough for FHSU to finish in either a tie for second or a tie for third in the league standings pending results from Saturday. Official seeds for the MIAA Championship Tournament, presented by Southern Bank, will be released Saturday evening after the conclusion of all regular season action.

The Tigers struggled offensively in the first half, hitting just 25.6 from the floor over the first 20 minutes (10-of-39). Thankfully for the fans in black and gold, the Tiger defense took the reins to keep the home team in the game. Fort Hays State forced 11 turnovers in the first half while blocking one shot, limiting the Lopers to a 30-26 lead at halftime. Katie Wagner&nbsp;did the bulk of the work for the Tigers offensively in the first half, scoring 14 points including a pair of 3-pointers.

Fort Hays State figured things out after intermission, hitting nearly 55 percent from the floor over the rest of the contest (17-of-31). The Tiger defense continued to dominate, finishing the game with 11 steals and forcing 22 Loper turnovers. FHSU held its rival to just one field goal over the first eight minutes of the second half, giving the Tigers the opportunity to take control.

Emma Ruddle&nbsp;drilled a 3-pointer midway through the third to pull the Tigers within one, 32-31, before Wagner put the team on top with a jumper one minute later. Jessie Sallach&nbsp;then added back-to-back buckets to push the lead to six, 38-32. Sallach later hit a 3-pointer to push the lead to seven at the end of the third quarter, 43-36.

Nebraska-Kearney scored six-straight points early in the fourth quarter before Sallach responded with another 3-pointer to push the lead back to four, 48-44. UNK answered with another 3-pointer of its own, again trimming the lead to one. The teams traded buckets for the remainder of the contest, with FHSU never leading by more than six but never falling behind as the Tigers always had an answer.

A traditional 3-point play from Wagner and back-to-back buckets from Olivia Hollenbeck&nbsp;helped the Tigers push their lead back to six, 57-51, with three minutes to play. The Lopers followed with consecutive buckets, including a 3-pointer from Meg Burns to close within one.

Hollenbeck hit another layup with 25 seconds to go to put the Tigers back up three, 59-56, before UNK scored a quick two with 12 seconds remaining. Sydney Golladay&nbsp;was then fouled and calmly hit both free throws with six seconds to go, pushing the lead back to three. Burns then threw up a heave from the top of the arc with a hand in her face as time was expiring that managed to find the bottom of the net, leveling the score at 61 after 40 minutes of action.

Both teams missed on their first attempt in overtime before Golladay drilled a 3-pointer to give the Tigers the lead. FHSU got another stop before Hollenbeck scored again in the paint, stretching the lead to five. The Lopers followed with another Burns 3-pointer, but Wagner answered right back with a jumper of her own. The Maize, Kan. native then hit a pair of free throws, pushing the lead to six with two minutes to play, 70-64.

The Tiger defense finished strong, forcing the Lopers to miss their final five shots while forcing a pair of turnovers over the final two minutes of the overtime period. The Tigers were a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and overtime to seal the win.

Fort Hays State scored 21 points off the 22 UNK turnovers, while the Lopers managed just 10 points off eight Tiger turnovers. The Tigers shot a combined 38.6 percent from the floor for the game (27-of-70) while UNK hit 40.3 percent (27-of-67). The Lopers took care of business on the boards as they have all season, outrebounding the Tigers 50-35.

Wagner led all scorers with 26 points, adding six rebounds, three assists and one steal. Hollenbeck scored 18 points and added two steals and one block on defense. Golladay distributed eight assists for the second game in a row, adding seven points and one steal. Sallach contributed 12 points, 10 of which came after halftime, while Brooke Loewe&nbsp;distributed five assists and poked away a career-high four steals.&nbsp;&nbsp;

🏀 Tiger women top Lopers on Senior Night

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Fort Hays State baseball team dropped the series opener at Rogers State Friday afternoon 11-1. The Tigers (11-5, 1-3 MIAA) collected six hits compared to 11 for the Hillcats (11-3, 4-0 MIAA), while both teams committed one error.

Rogers State struck first in the bottom of the second by scoring two runs with two outs, taking advantage of two singles and three walks. Tiger starter Cade Flaherty&nbsp;retired the side in order in the second before the Hillcats manufactured another run in the third, going up 3-0. Flaherty then faced the minimum over the next three innings, keeping FHSU within striking distance.

Fort Hays State had runners on base in all but two innings, but the Tigers were unable to get things going until the top of the sixth when Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;started a rally with a leadoff single to left center. Trey DeGarmo&nbsp;followed with a perfect bunt down the third-base line, giving the Tigers multiple baserunners for the first time all day. The pair moved up on a wild pitch before Kyle Morrell&nbsp;drove in FHSU's first run with a single to left.

The Hillcats responded with four runs in the seventh, including three unearned runs, before pushing across four more in the eighth.

DeGarmo collected two of FHSU's six hits, with Kreutzer, Morrell, Zane Knox and Isaiah Ural&nbsp;also recording base knocks. Flaherty struck out three batters in 6.1 innings of work, while Brandon Chavez&nbsp;added one strikeout in 0.2 innings of relief.

The teams will continue the series Saturday, with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.

Fort Hays State plays host to Nebraska-Kearney on Friday night at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. It will be Senior Night for the Tigers with three seniors being recognized right after the conclusion of the women's contest. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The No. 19 ranked Tigers enter at 21-6 overall, 16-5 in the MIAA, while the Lopers are 5-21 overall and 2-19 in the MIAA.

Fort Hays State won the first meeting with UNK this season by a score of 57-49. Kaleb Hammeke&nbsp;led the Tigers with 15 points in that contest. The Tigers now have a six-game win streak against the Lopers. UNK's last win in the series was in 2020-21 by four points in Kearney. FHSU has won the last six meetings between the teams in Hays with UNK's last win at Gross Memorial Coliseum occurring back in 2016-17.

Fort Hays State is coming off a 67-65 overtime win over Missouri Southern in Hays last Saturday. The Tigers battled to get the game tied in regulation, then outlasted the Lions in a physical game in overtime.

Nebraska-Kearney enters this game on a 16-game losing streak. UNK's last win was back on December 19 over Bethany College, but the Lopers have dropped 18-straight MIAA games since defeating Missouri Western back on December 7. UNK started conference play 2-1 before dropping 18 straight conference games since. UNK's closest loss since last playing the Tigers on January 20 was a 90-85 loss to Newman in Kearney back on February 10.

Fort Hays State is No. 5 in the latest NCAA Central Region rankings, released on Wednesday (Feb. 28). The Tigers rank fifth in win percentage both in-region and overall against Division II competition this year, and also rank fifth in RPI and performance indicator formulas used in the region rankings. Minnesota State is the frontrunner in the region rankings, followed by Northwest Missouri State, MSU Moorhead, Minnesota Duluth, and Fort Hays State. Minnesota State has just two losses on the season, while NWMSU and MSU Moorhead each have four, and Minnesota Duluth has five. The top four teams in the region rankings all have at least 20 wins against Division II competition this season. FHSU is 18-6 against Division II competition so far this season.

Hammeke continues to lead the Tigers in scoring and assists. He is averaging 13.8 points and 4.1 assists per contest. In the win over Missouri Southern last week, he became just the third player in program history to have at least 1,500 points and 400 assists in their career, joining Raymond Lee and Mark Wilson. Elijah Nnanabu&nbsp;is the team-leader in rebounding at 5.2 per game, followed closely by Hammeke at 5.1 per game.

Nnanabu, Bjarni Jonsson and Jahiem Holden&nbsp;are the three senior that will be recognized immediately following the conclusion of the women's game. Nnanabu and Jonsson were both All-MIAA selections last year and Jonsson is a two-time MIAA All-Defensive Team selection.

Fort Hays State is already a lock for the No. 2 seed in the MIAA Tournament next week. The Tigers will potentially match up against either the No. 7 or No. 10 seed in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The teams in those seeds are still to be determined here in the last week of conference play.&nbsp;&nbsp;

🏀🎧 LISTEN - Tiger men host UNK to close out regular season

It doesn't take much time on the internet to find motivational quotes for athletes. Some of those quotes emphasize that each athlete's journey is their own and not to be compared to others.

Hays High senior Dylan Haselhorst has had a different journey that ultimately landed him an opportunity to play baseball at Barton County Community College next season. It is unlike most.

Haselhorst has played baseball since he was little. Some of the summer time was spent playing baseball with a team from Hays. At the time Haselhort went to school in Kinsley. His freshman year of high school the sport was not offered at Kinsley. The Coyotes added the program his sophomore season.

Prior to starting his junior year the Haselhorst family moved to Hays where Dylan's dad is originally from.&nbsp;

As a program they felt like Haselhorst had a better opportunity to develop by being behind the plate every day on junior varsity instead of playing occasionally on the varsity level.

Dreher says that Haselhorst has improved on every aspect of the game and has been a great leader in the first week of practice. This year's baseball team has ten seniors on it. Behind the plate sending signals to the pitcher will be the Barton County Community College baseball signee Dylan Haselhorst.

Fort Hays State (21-6, 15-6 MIAA) is ranked third in the latest NCAA DII Central Region rankings, released Wednesday. Five other MIAA programs are in the top 10. The Tigers have six wins against regionally ranked teams, while all six of FHSU's losses also came against regionally ranked opponents.

The Tigers have secured a trip to Kansas City, Mo. for the 2024 MIAA Women's Basketball Championship Tournament, presented by Southern Bank. With just one week remaining in the regular season, the Tigers can finish anywhere from second to sixth in the jam-packed MIAA standings.

Fort Hays State has reached the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament six-straight times, the longest active streak in the MIAA. Additionally, the Tigers have played in the semifinals in 10 of the last 11 tournaments, three more than any other women's team during that span (ESU 7, UCM 7).

Fort Hays State will begin play in KC in the quarterfinals on either Thursday, March 7 or Friday, March 8, with the women playing the first set of games this year (noon/2:15 p.m.).&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/news/2024/2/6/mens-basketball-2024-miaa-basketball-championship-tournament-tickets-now-available.aspx">All-session passes are available</a>&nbsp;for just $60 at the FHSU athletics office, a discount of $25 from the box-office price.

Fort Hays State won its 10th home game of the season Saturday against Missouri Southern, reaching double figures in home wins for a 36th time during the Gross Memorial Coliseum era.

The balanced offensive attack of the Tigers saw seven players score at least nine points in the 85-81 win over Missouri Southern, with an eighth Tiger adding seven points. Fort Hays State scored a season-high 26 points in transition in the win while limiting the Lions to just two fast-break points.

Now with 905 rebounds in a Tiger uniform, Katie Wagner&nbsp;moved to third on the all-time rebounds list at Fort Hays State over the weekend. The junior is fifth on the all-time points list with 1,609 over the last four years.

In addition, Wagner needs just six steals to move into the top 10 all-time at Fort Hays State, where she would tie Jamie Heiman with 179 steals. The Maize, Kan. native is closing in on the single-season top 10 list in numerous categories, needing 41 points, 57 rebounds or eight rebounds to tie for 10th in each respective category.

Sydney Golladay&nbsp;passed a pair of former Tigers on the all-time assists chart this weekend, climbing to seventh with 338 assists in her time at Fort Hays State.

Olivia Hollenbeck&nbsp;(1,324 points) is now 12th all-time in scoring, needing 19 points to match Kacey Kennett for 11th. She is just five blocks away from moving into second all-time, where she would tie Ashlee Gustin with 166 blocks.

Fort Hays State leads the all-time series, 61-42. The Tigers have played UNK more than any other school in program history and also have more wins against the Lopers than any other team. FHSU snapped a two-game losing streak with a 70-68 road win over the Lopers earlier this season. The teams have alternated two-game winning streaks over the last five years. Nebraska-Kearney has won three in a row in Hays and five of the last seven dating back to 2018.

Nebraska-Kearney is 18-9 on the year after dropping each of its last two contests. The Lopers were listed as under consideration for regional selection last week but were replaced by Northwestern Oklahoma State in the regional ranks this week. The Lopers own the best rebound margin in the MIAA, ranking seventh nationally by outrebounding opponents by an average of 10.0 boards per contest.

Shiloh McCool leads the team in rebounding, ranking first in the MIAA and 36th in the country with 9.3 rebounds per game. Jillian Aschoff leads the conference in assists, averaging 5.9 per night to rank eighth in Division II. 🏀 Thursday's high school sub-state results

OAKLEY – The Smith Center Lady Red closed the fourth quarter
on a 16-4 run as they defeated the TMP Lady Monarchs 46-33 Thursday night in
Oakley, ending TMP’s season in the sub-state semifinals.

Both teams struggled to get their offense going as Smith
Center built a 6-4 first quarter lead.

In the second quarter TMP’s Claire Schippers scored a
driving layup with six minutes left tying the game at 6.

Her sister Gracyn Schippers added five straight with a
three-pointer putting TMP up 11-6. Then on the next TMP possession Claire
connected on her first of three three-pointers putting TMP up 14-6.

After leading by eight, they again matched their largest
lead of the game when Teagan Gottschalk capped off the 12-2 run putting TMP up
16-8 with a field goal in the paint, with just over two minutes left in the first

driving layup with six minutes left tying the game at 6.Her sister Gracyn Schippers added five straight with a
three-pointer putting TMP up 11-6. Then on the next TMP possession Claire
connected on her first of three three-pointers putting TMP up 14-6.After leading by eight, they again matched their largest
lead of the game when Teagan Gottschalk capped off the 12-2 run putting TMP up
16-8 with a field goal in the paint, with just over two minutes left in the first

KANSAS - Several area senior wrestlers have accepted their invitation to participate in the first Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association Shrine Duals. The wrestlers who were selected, and accepted
their invitation, will compete during the KWCA Kansas Shrine Duals on Sunday,
March 17th, 2024 at Fugate Gymnasium on the campus of Newman University in
Wichita, Kansas.

Gates open at 2:30 pm and the opening
ceremonies will begin at 3:15 pm.

The area wrestlers who will participate include Hays High's Harley Zimmerman (149) and Alexis Burton (136). Zimmerman won a second consecutive state title at 144 last weekend in Park City while Burton finished second.

HAYS - Hays High hosted both girls' and boys' sub-state opening round games on Wednesday night against Goddard. The boys would have opened postseason play on Tuesday but the matchup was moved to Wednesday since both the girls and boys were set to host the Lions.

Girls: [5] Hays 53, [12] Goddard 45, OT It took an extra four minutes but #10 Hays High outlasted Goddard 53-45 in overtime to extend their season.

Hays jumped out to a 9-2 lead with an eight point run. That seven point advantage would be their largest for the remainder of regulation. Goddard would go on their own 9-0 run for an 11-9 Lion lead. The Indians scored as the first quarter expired to tie the game up at 11.

Hays trailed by one point early in the second but responded with a 7-0 run for a 20-14 lead with 5:32 left before halftime. Goddard got back within two points at 22-20 with 4:20 on the clock but the Lions didn't score for the remainder of the half. Hays could only muster one point themselves to lead 23-20 at halftime.

Goddard built their largest advantage of the game at 27-23 as the Indians didn't score a field goal for the first 4:25 of the third quarter. The defenses clamped down in the third quarter and Hays led 32-30 heading to the fourth.

The fourth quarter mimicked the second. Hays built a five point lead 43-38 with 3:46 remaining in regulation. The Indians though didn't score for the rest of regulation. Goddard tied the game with 1:27 left in the game. Each team had field goal attempts to win the game but neither connected.

Hays struck first in overtime and never trailed in the extra four minutes of basketball. Goddard did tie the game once at 45 with 1:15 remaining. Hays answered back on their next possession at 47-45. The Indians made all of their last six free throws of the game to win 53-45.

Hays has won 10-straight and improves to 16-5. They will play at Bishop Carroll Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in the&nbsp; 5A Sub-State title game. The Golden Eagles beat Andover Central 49-41 Wednesday.

The two teams were deadlocked at five point through the first six minutes of the game. Goddard ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run for a 12-5 lead.&nbsp;

Hays would fight back to tie the game at 15 three minutes into the second quarter. The Indians outscored the Lions 11-7 through the remaining five minutes of the quarter to lead 26-22 at the break. Hays had a 21-10 advantage in the second quarter.

The Indians came out of the locker room on a 7-2 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 33-24 forcing a Goddard time out. The rest of the game belonged to the Lions.&nbsp;

Hays went without a field goal for the next 7:20. During that time Goddard went on a 21-3 run to build a 45-36 lead. Trailing by 13 points, Hays got a seven point possession to make one final push. Hays hit a three and as the ball was in the air a foul was called on Goddard. Hays scored on the inbound and was fouled. The free throw missed but was rebounded by the Indians and stuck back in for two points closing the gap down to 51-45 with just over three minutes left.&nbsp;

It would be the Indians got rest of the night. Goddard made 12 of 13 fourth quarter free throws to win 63-47.

Hays ends the season at 13-8. Goddard improves to 13-8 and will play at Kapaun on Friday for a 5A State berth.

🏀 Hays girls advance; boys season ends versus Goddard

DENVER – Fort Hays State Softball fell in both games of a doubleheader at MSU Denver on Wednesday (Feb. 28). The Tigers fell 6-0 in the first contest, then 5-3 in the second game. MSU Denver improved to 15-5 overall for the season with the two wins, while FHSU moved to 9-7 overall.

The matchup on Wednesday pitted an MSU Denver team hitting .346 as a team and averaging 6.2 runs per game against one of the nation's top pitching staffs in FHSU, which entered with a team ERA of 1.46. Despite outhitting MSU Denver 9-8 in the first contest of the day, the Tigers were unable to score in key moments with golden opportunities. The Tigers matched the Roadrunners in hits in game two, each with six, but came up short in the runs column as MSU Denver did most of its damage in the fourth inning.

Game 1: MSU Denver 6, Fort Hays State 0 Savanah Egger&nbsp;held the potent MSU Denver offense scoreless for the first three innings, but the Tigers were unable to cash in a great opportunity in the fourth and the Roadrunners broke through with the game's first runs in the fourth. FHSU went scoreless in Egger's third-straight start and MSU Denver added on insurance runs in the sixth.

Both teams had just one hit through the first three innings, but the Tigers started the fourth with a pair of singles and had runners at second and third with no outs after a passed ball. The Tigers' lead runner trying to score was cut down on the next play on a fielder's choice on the infield, and a strikeout and ground out followed leaving a pair of runners stranded in scoring position.

A hit batter and a single for MSU Denver in the fourth set up a 2-RBI double by pitcher Jenna Medhus to break the scoreless tie. The Tigers had another great chance to respond in the top of the fifth after three singles in the inning loaded the bases, but a groundout ended the threat. Four hits by the Roadrunners in the sixth helped plate the first two runs, but then a Tiger error aided two more runs in scoring to make it 6-0.Egger threw the first 5.1 innings before handing the ball to Morgan Schmidt&nbsp;for the final 0.2. Egger struck out a season-high nine batters, but scattered eight and two walks, while hitting two batters.

Medhus moved to 5-0 on the season in the circle for MSU Denver by throwing the first five innings of the game. She struck out three. Cheyenne Prieto picked up a save over the final two innings, entering when the game was just 2-0 in favor of the Roadrunners.

Peyton Shepard, Sarah Tiffany and Lexi Mohr&nbsp;all had a team-high two hits in the game.

Game 2: MSU Denver 5, Fort Hays State 3 MSU Denver took an early 1-0 lead in game two, but the Tigers knotted the score with their first run of the day in the second inning. With runners at first and third and no outs, a ground ball double play at second and first drove in the Tigers' first run.

Bailey Carlson&nbsp;settled in to keep the Roadrunners scoreless in the second and third innings, but ran into a snag in the fourth when the Roadrunners led off with a double. A walk and then a throwing error by the Tigers allowed the first of four runs in the inning to score. A 2-RBI double followed the error to make it 4-1 and then a two-out RBI single made it 5-1. Morgan Schmidt&nbsp;then relieved Carlson for the remainder of the game and held the Roadrunners scoreless the rest of the way.

The Tigers cut the four-run lead in half in the fifth with a pair of runs. With the bases loaded and no outs, Lexi Mohr&nbsp;drove in a run on a fielder's choice. As MSU Denver tried to turn a double play, the throw to first sailed high and the Tigers scored another run on the error. After that, the Roadrunners recorded eight straight outs to keep the Tigers scoreless the rest of the way.

Carlson took the loss in 3.2 innings of work, allowing six hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Schmidt threw a hitless 2.1 innings of relief with a walk, while striking out three.

Maddy Wilson picked up a win for the Roadrunners, going 5.0 innings in her start. Natalie Romero recorded a save holding the Tigers scoreless over the final 2.0 innings.

Fort Hays State will have a little over a week off before opening MIAA play at Missouri Western on March 8.

FHSU went scoreless in Egger's third-straight start and MSU Denver added on insurance runs in the sixth.Both teams had just one hit through the first three innings, but the Tigers started the fourth with a pair of singles and had runners at second and third with no outs after a passed ball. The Tigers' lead runner trying to score was cut down on the next play on a fielder's choice on the infield, and a strikeout and ground out followed leaving a pair of runners stranded in scoring position.A hit batter and a single for MSU Denver in the fourth set up a 2-RBI double by pitcher Jenna Medhus to break the scoreless tie. The Tigers had another great chance to respond in the top of the fifth after three singles in the inning loaded the bases, but a groundout ended the threat. Four hits by the Roadrunners in the sixth helped plate the first two runs, but then a Tiger error aided two more runs in scoring to make it 6-0.Egger threw the first 5.1 innings before handing the ball to Morgan Schmidt&nbsp;for the final 0.2. Egger struck out a season-high nine batters, but scattered eight and two walks, while hitting two batters.Medhus moved to 5-0 on the season in the circle for MSU Denver by throwing the first five innings of the game. She struck out three. Cheyenne Prieto picked up a save over the final two innings, entering when the game was just 2-0 in favor of the Roadrunners.Peyton Shepard, Sarah Tiffany and Lexi Mohr&nbsp;all had a team-high two hits in the game.Game 2: MSU Denver 5, Fort Hays State 3 MSU Denver took an early 1-0 lead in game two, but the Tigers knotted the score with their first run of the day in the second inning. With runners at first and third and no outs, a ground ball double play at second and first drove in the Tigers' first run.Bailey Carlson&nbsp;settled in to keep the Roadrunners scoreless in the second and third innings, but ran into a snag in the fourth when the Roadrunners led off with a double. A walk and then a throwing error by the Tigers allowed the first of four runs in the inning to score. A 2-RBI double followed the error to make it 4-1 and then a two-out RBI single made it 5-1. Morgan Schmidt&nbsp;then relieved Carlson for the remainder of the game and held the Roadrunners scoreless the rest of the way.The Tigers cut the four-run lead in half in the fifth with a pair of runs. With the bases loaded and no outs, Lexi Mohr&nbsp;drove in a run on a fielder's choice. As MSU Denver tried to turn a double play, the throw to first sailed high and the Tigers scored another run on the error. After that, the Roadrunners recorded eight straight outs to keep the Tigers scoreless the rest of the way.Carlson took the loss in 3.2 innings of work, allowing six hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Schmidt threw a hitless 2.1 innings of relief with a walk, while striking out three.Maddy Wilson picked up a win for the Roadrunners, going 5.0 innings in her start. INDIANAPOLIS – Fort Hays State men's basketball was slotted fifth in the latest NCAA Central Region Rankings, released on Wednesday. This week rankings were assigned to teams after the first release just lists teams under consideration alphabetically. The list of 10 teams can change week-to-week as future results affect the formulas for consideration.

Fort Hays State remains in good shape, sitting at 21-6 overall. In the formula used for the NCAA Region Rankings, the Tigers are 18-6 overall since their three games against NAIA opponents are not factored in.

According to the report for the Central Region linked at the bottom of the region rankings page on&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-men/d2/regional-ranking">NCAA.com</a>, Fort Hays State has the fifth-best In-Region RPI and Division II Performance Indicator values in the Central Region. Minnesota State owns the highest In-Region RPI and Performance Indicator values, while Northwest Missouri State is second-best in both, MSU Moorhead is third-best in both, and Minnesota Duluth is fourth-best in both.

The Tigers are seeking their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since the 2015-16 season after nearly missing an at-large selection each of the last two years when they won 23 and 21 games respectively.

Eight teams from the Central Region will be selected to compete in the Central Regional of the NCAA Tournament following the conclusion of conference tournaments. The region consists of teams from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, and Great American Conference. Champions from each of the three conference tournaments within the region will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) has seven teams listed in the region rankings, while FHSU and Northwest Missouri State represent the MIAA and Southeastern Oklahoma State represents the Great American Conference (GAC).

🏀 Tiger men fifth in latest NCAA II Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team is ranked third in this week's NCAA Division II Central Region rankings, released Wednesday by the NCAA office.

The Tigers picked up two big wins last week, improving to 21-6 overall after wins against a pair of other regionally-ranked teams in Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern.

Fort Hays State is one of six MIAA teams listed amongst the top 10 teams in the region, with the Great American Conference picking up three spots in the ranking and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference garnering one spot.

The top five teams in the region at the end of the season will earn at-large bids into the 2024 NCAA Division II Central Region Championships alongside the three conference tournament champions. Fort Hays State has played in seven of the last nine regional championship tournaments, serving as the top overall seed four times and playing in three regional finals.
