IRVING, Texas --&nbsp;In accordance with the Big 12 Conference sportsmanship policies, the Conference has issued a public reprimand of University of Utah’s Director of Athletics Mark Harlan for his actions at the conclusion of the game against BYU and his comments following the game.

Additionally, he will be issued a $40,000 fine.&nbsp;Harlan has been informed that a repeat of such behavior will result in a more serious penalty.“Mark’s comments irresponsibly challenged the professionalism of our officials and the integrity of the Big 12 Conference,” said Commissioner Brett Yormark. 

“There is a right way and a wrong way to voice concerns. Unfortunately, Mark chose the wrong way. Accordingly, this violation warrants a public reprimand and financial penalty. The Big 12 Conference prioritizes professionalism, integrity, and fairness, and will continue to do so.”The Big 12 Conference will have no further comment on this issue.

Big 12 announces public reprimand, fine of Utah AD Mark Harlan

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Devin Neal ran for 116 yards and two scores and became Kansas' all-time leader in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in a 45-36 win over No. 17 Iowa State at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday.

Neal broke June Henley's rushing record with a 14-yard run on his first carry and now has 3,951. Neal's touchdown runs of 13 and 10 yards gave him 43, breaking Henley's mark of 41.

“I'm very happy for Devin and all of his teammates who have been part of this all the way through,” said Kansas coach Lance Leipold, wearing a T-shirt that read “REAL DE4L” representing Neal's No. 4 jersey. “It's because of the type of player he's been and the person he's been. He's humble and hard-working. I'm so happy he did it in front of our home fans in our home away from home this year.

"He's done so much for us on and off the field. He's done so much for us this season. He had another outstanding game today.”

Jalon Daniels finished 12 of 24 for 295 yards and two touchdowns for Kansas (3-6, 2-4 Big 12). None was bigger than a 70-yard strike to Luke Grimm on the second play after Iowa State drove 99 yards to take a 7-0 lead.

“That was a really good drive, an impressive drive for them to go 99 yards,” Leipold said. “It was like, ‘Oh, boy, they really found their stride.’

"For us to answer that quickly really kind of settled it back down and got it back to neutral. That was a big play.”

Daniels was just glad he didn't miss Grimm.

“That pass is not one we've hit a lot recently,” he said. “They took away my 1-, 2- and 3-progression and I saw Luke running across the middle. Sometimes the most wide-open throws are the hardest throws to make.”

Rocco Becht was 24 of 37 for 383 yards and three touchdowns for Iowa State (7-2, 4-2, No. 17 CFP), which has lost two straight after a 7-0 start.

Neal's second touchdown of the game put Kansas up 38-13 in the third quarter.

Carson Hansen scored a 13-yard touchdown for Iowa State to cut it to 38-20. Becht then found Jaylon Jackson for a 27-yard touchdown and Becht ran in the 2-point conversion to cut it to 38-28. Mello Dotson's 25-yard interception return for a touchdown for Kansas made it a 17-point game with 5:58 left.

The Jayhawks ran out the clock after Becht found Jaylin Noel for an 18-yard touchdown.

“We got an early lead and we just weren’t able to sustain it,” Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said. “Our offense has to help out our defense at times. We’ve got to find a way. There’s no excuse. The reality is that nobody is going to feel sorry for us.”

Becht engineered a seven-play, 99-yard drive to open the scoring. Becht hit Noel on a 27-yard strike to finish it.

After Daniels' 70-yard pass to Grimm, Neal added a 13-yard touchdown run to give Kansas a lead it never relinquished.

“The best part was getting (the records) in a win,” Neal said. “That's a real good team over there. I was proud to be part of this team.”

Daniels found Quentin Skinner for a 24-yard touchdown to put the Jayhawks up 21-7.

Iowa State: The Cyclones still have a chance to play for the Big 12 title, but their margin for error is all but gone and they will need some help.

Kansas: The Jayhawks can go to a third straight bowl for the first time in program history if they win out. They still have to play BYU and Colorado, the two teams at the top of the standings.

Iowa State: host Cincinnati next Saturday.

MARSHALL, Minn. – Fort Hays State Men's Basketball took its second loss in as many days, falling to Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday. The Golden Bears had a balanced scoring effort from their starting five, winning by a score of 82-68 over the No. 16 ranked Tigers. CSP started its season 2-0, while FHSU moved to 0-2.

Fort Hays State held a 26-22 lead at the 8:49 mark of the first half before Concordia-St. Paul went on a 13-0 run to take a 35-26 advantage. FHSU closed back within one point shortly before halftime, but a 3-point field goal by CSP pushed the lead out to 44-40 at the break.

The Tigers chipped away early in the second half and got the lead down to one twice before momentarily taking a two-point lead (59-57) on a&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/kyle-grill/8223">Kyle Grill</a>&nbsp;3-point field goal at the 11:18 mark. However, CSP pulled back even and then used a 15-4 run to hold an 11-point lead with a little over four minutes to play. The Tigers cut the lead inside 10 only one time after the run.

🏐 FHSU upended at Washburn

Bobby Allison, founder of racing’s “Alabama Gang” and a NASCAR Hall of Famer, died Saturday. He was 86.

NASCAR released a statement from Allison’s family that said he died at home in Mooresville, North Carolina. A cause of death wasn’t given, but Allison had been in declining health for years.

Allison moved to fourth on NASCAR’s Cup Series victory list last month when chairman Jim France recognized him as the winner of the Meyers Brothers Memorial at Bowman Gray Stadium in North Carolina in 1971. The sanctioning body updated its record books to reflect the decision, giving Allison 85 wins and moving him out of a tie with Darrell Waltrip.

France and longtime NASCAR executive Mike Helton presented Allison with a plaque commemorating the victory. With it, Allison trails only fellow Hall of Famers Richard Petty (200), David Pearson (105) and Jeff Gordon (93) in Cup wins.

Allison was inducted into NASCAR’s second Hall of Fame class, in 2011. He was the 1983 NASCAR champion, finished second in the series title race five times, and a three-time winner of the Daytona 500.

“Bobby was the ultimate fan’s driver,” Allison’s family said in a statement. “He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his fans and would stop to sign autographs and have conversations with them everywhere he went. He was a dedicated family man and friend, and a devout Catholic.”

He helped put NASCAR on the map with more than his driving. His infamous fight with Cale Yarborough in the closing laps of the 1979 Daytona 500 served as one of the sport’s defining moments.

“Cale went to beating on my fist with his nose,” Allison has said repeatedly, often using that phrase to describe the fight. “Cale understands like I do that it really was a benefit to the interest of racing. It proves that we were sincere.”

Born in Miami in 1937, Allison started searching for more racing opportunities outside the Sunshine State. He landed in central Alabama, where he found a number of small, dirt tracks.

He returned to Florida to get brother Donnie and close friend Red Farmer. They set up shop in Hueytown, Alabama, and dominated regional races throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. They were later joined in the Alabama Gang by Jimmy Mears, Neil Bonnett and Bonnett and Allison’s sons Davey and Clifford.

Allison retired in 1988 following a crash that nearly killed him. In June 1987, he wrecked on the opening lap at Talledega Superspeedway. He hit the outside wall and then got T-boned in the driver’s side door. He was initially declared dead upon reaching a local hospital but was later resuscitated.

He eventually regained his memory, re-learned everyday activities and attempted a comeback. But a series of tragedies led Allison to retire. His son, Clifford, was fatally injured during a crash in practice for the second-tier Busch Series at Michigan International Speedway in 1992. A year later, son Davey was killed in a helicopter crash at Talladega.

Three years after that, Bobby and wife Judy divorced. They reconnected four years later at their daughter-in-law’s wedding and were remarried in 2000. They remained together until Judy’s death in 2015.

Allison was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1992 and into the NASCAR Hall of Fame along with Ned Jarrett, Bud Moore, Pearson and Lee Petty.

“Bobby Allison personified the term ‘racer,’” France said in statement. “Though he is best known as one of the winningest drivers in NASCAR Cup Series history, his impact on the sport extends far beyond the record books.

Allison is one of 10 drivers to have won NASCAR’s career “grand slam” that includes the Cup Series’ most iconic races: the Daytona 500, the Winston 500, the Coca-Cola 600 and the Southern 500.

Allison made six IndyCar Series starts for Roger Penske, including a pair of Indy 500s.

The Tigers completed the opening weekend inside the St. Joseph Civic Arena 2-0, moving to 6-0 inside the building the DII era, while the Dragons are 0-2 to start the year.

🏃‍♂️ Tiger men 12th at NCAA II Regional

JOPLIN, Mo. - The Fort Hays State women's cross country team placed sixth out of 31 teams at the 2024 NCAA Division II Central Region Championships Saturday at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course on the campus of Missouri Southern. It is FHSU's best finish at the regional meet since 2016.

Junior&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-cross-country/roster/emily-diercks/8438">Emily Diercks'</a>&nbsp;seventh-place finish gave the team an All-Region performer for the third year in a row. Hays held the ball for 6:30 on the first drive of the second half but turned the ball over on downs after 13 plays. Great Bend threw their second interception of the game on the next drive. Caleb Thompson got his third pick of the year.&nbsp;

The Indians converted the turnover into points. Carter Graham punched in a two yard score for a 19-14 lead with :13 left in the third quarter. The two-point conversion failed.

Great Bend struck just three plays later. Minton ran for 65 yards. The extra point closed the score down to 19-14 with 11:07 left. Neither team scored rest of the way.&nbsp;

🏈Hays continues season with postseason win at Great Bend

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Hunter Dickinson had 20 points and 10 rebounds for No. 1 Kansas, which blew a 20-point first-half lead against No. 9 North Carolina before holding on for a 92-89 victory when the Tar Heels’ Elliot Cadeau missed a 3-pointer as time expired Friday night.

Zeke Mayo had 21 points and KJ Adams Jr had 14 for the Jayhawks (2-0), who led 49-29 in the first half but trailed 87-83 with 3:28 to go. Dickinson and Mayo responded with a series of baskets to tie the game at 89, and Dickinson’s basket with 1:15 to go and free throw with 12 seconds remaining made it a three-point game.

The Tar Heels (1-1) raced up the floor, but Cadeau’s 3 from the wing was contested and never had a chance.

Seth Trimble scored 19 points to lead North Carolina. RJ Davis had 16 points and Cadeau finished with 12.

It was just the 13th matchup of the Tar Heels and Jayhawks, and first since Kansas rallied from a 16-point deficit to win the 2022 national championship. The only other time they have met on campus was in 1960, when Larry Brown — who would later coach the Jayhawks to the 1988 title — helped the Tar Heels win in Allen Fieldhouse.

Kansas made a repeat seem unlikely when it built a 20-point first-half lead.

But the Tar Heels trimmed the deficit in the second half, and Jae'Lyn Withers' 3-pointer gave them an 80-79 lead with 7:06 to go. The two bluebloods wrestled it away several other times before Kansas finally put the game away.

North Carolina stayed alive by getting to the basket and drawing fouls, ultimately going 28 of 31 from the line. But the lack of production in the paint was a big problem.

Kansas avoided what would have been the biggest blown-lead loss in school history.

Dickinson's basket inside with 1:15 left gave Kansas the lead, and the All-American center's free throw forced North Carolina into needing a 3-pointer to tie the game.

🏀 No. 1 Kansas holds on to beat No. 9 North Carolina

MARSHALL, Minn. – In a matchup of teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year, Southwest Minnesota State prevailed on its home floor against No. 16 ranked Fort Hays State by a score of 68-62. The Tigers had a 31-28 lead at halftime, but saw the Mustangs slip by in the second half for the six-point win. It was the first game of the season for both teams.

Fort Hays State led for the majority of the first half. Their largest lead was eight points at the 3:24 mark of the first half when&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/kaleb-hammeke/8224">Kaleb Hammeke</a>&nbsp;hit a 3-point field goal to make the score 29-21. But, the Mustangs closed the gap to just three by halftime. FHSU held the Mustangs to just 34.6 percent shooting from the field in the opening half.

The Tigers made the first basket of the second half, but saw the Mustangs go on an 8-0 run to sneak past and lead 36-33. The Tigers would never get the lead back from that point as the Mustangs found a way to hold them off the rest of the way. The largest SMSU lead was 12 points with just under three minutes to play, but the Tigers brought the lead back down to five twice inside the final minute.

The free-throw line was a big difference in the game for the Mustangs, where they outscored the Tigers by 14. SMSU shot 28 free throws and made 22, while FHSU shot just 10 free throws and made eight. The Tigers made 10 3-point field goals compared to six for the Mustangs, and made two more field goals overall than the Mustangs. However, it was not enough to offset the free-throw line disparity. FHSU managed to hold the Mustangs to just 37.7 percent overall from the field.

But, the Mustangs closed the gap to just three by halftime. FHSU held the Mustangs to just 34.6 percent shooting from the field in the opening half.The Tigers made the first basket of the second half, but saw the Mustangs go on an 8-0 run to sneak past and lead 36-33. The Tigers would never get the lead back from that point as the Mustangs found a way to hold them off the rest of the way. The largest SMSU lead was 12 points with just under three minutes to play, but the Tigers brought the lead back down to five twice inside the final minute.The free-throw line was a big difference in the game for the Mustangs, where they outscored the Tigers by 14. SMSU shot 28 free throws and made 22, while FHSU shot just 10 free throws and made eight. The Tigers made 10 3-point field goals compared to six for the Mustangs, and made two more field goals overall than the Mustangs. However, it was not enough to offset the free-throw line disparity. The Tigers opened the game on an 11-2 run over the first four minutes of action, taking the lead and never looking back. FHSU forced five turnovers during that span while knocking down 5-of-8 from the floor to start the year.

The Vikings settled in after the first media timeout, closing within 15-11 by the end of the first quarter.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/katie-wagner-degarmo/8334">Katie Wagner DeGarmo</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/talexa-weeter/8335">Talexa Weeter</a>&nbsp;each hit 3-pointers in the first minute of the second quarter, helping FHSU push the lead back to double figures, 21-11. Augustana battled back to close within four on three different occasions before the Tigers took a 30-24 lead into the locker room.

Fort Hays State Men's Basketball will start the 2024-25 regular season this weekend in Marshall, Minnesota. The Tigers are set to face weekend host Southwest Minnesota State on Friday night, then take on Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday. Fort Hays State enters as the No. 16 ranked team in the NABC Preseason Top 25 Poll, coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance and 23-8 season overall in 2023-24.

Fort Hays State's first opponent, Southwest Minnesota State, was a participant alongside the Tigers in last year's eight-team Central Regional of the NCAA Tournament. The Mustangs were the No. 7 seed in the eight-team Central Regional last year and finished 19-13 overall after playing the toughest schedule in the nation according to the formula used by the NCAA. They fell to No. 2 seed Northwest Missouri State in the opening round by a score of 73-43. The Mustangs return four players who made starts in 2023-24. Aeron Stevens is their top returning scorer, who averaged 11.8 points per game.

Concordia-St. Paul finished the 2023-24 season at 10-18 overall. The Golden Bears were a very heavy 3-point shooting team last year, finishing 12th&nbsp;in NCAA Division II for attempts per game (28.5) and 19th&nbsp;in 3-point field goals made per game (10.0). CSP returns six players who made at least 20 3-point field goals last year, including two with at least 30. Marcus Skeete is the top returning scorer for CSP at 15.0 points per game for players who played an entire season. Antwan Kimmons played and started in just eight games last year and averaged 15.5 per game. The Golden Bears started the 2023-24 season 7-3 overall before losing 15 of their last 18 games.

Fort Hays State finished second in the MIAA standings last year and was one of three MIAA teams selected to the Central Regional of the NCAA Tournament. At the regional in Mankato, Minn., No. 6 seeded Fort Hays State took a heartbreaking 59-58 loss in the opening round of the national tournament to No. 3 seeded Minnesota Duluth in a game that pitted two Top 20 ranked teams against each other. FHSU was No. 19 in the nation at the time, while UMD was No. 10. It was Fort Hays State's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2016 and eighth overall under head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/mark-johnson/1330">Mark Johnson</a>. Regional host and No. 1 seed Minnesota State went on to win the national title last year, showcasing the power of the Central Region in men's basketball. The Central Region had five Top 25 teams among its eight-team field, which tied the South Central Region for most among any of the eight regional fields last year.

Fort Hays State owns a 3-3 record against Southwest Minnesota State all-time. SMSU won the last meeting between the schools in 2018-19 on its home floor. The Tigers are 3-2 against SMSU under&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/mark-johnson/1330">Mark Johnson</a>. FHSU will be meeting Concordia-St. Paul for the first time in program history. The Tigers have faced three other Concordia universities in their history, which includes Concordia (Neb.), Concordia (Texas), and Concordia-Irvine (Calif.).

The Tigers return seven players from their 2023-24 squad, led by graduate student&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/kaleb-hammeke/8224">Kaleb Hammeke</a>&nbsp;who enters his fifth year on the court.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/traejon-davis/8222">Traejon Davis</a>&nbsp;also enters his fifth year on the floor for the Tigers. They are the longest-tenured Tigers on the roster. Hammeke led the Tigers in scoring (13.6 ppg) and assists (4.1 apg) in 2023-24, while also making a team-best 46 3-point field goals and 90 free throws for the season. He shot 87.4 percent at the free-throw line last year and reached double figures in scoring in 25 of 31 games. Hammeke is also the top returning rebounder for the Tigers, averaging 5.1 per game a year ago. He enters the 2024-25 season ranked fifth on the all-time scoring list at FHSU with 1,559 points and fourth on the all-time assists list at FHSU with 441.

FHSU brings back 68.4 percent of their scoring offense from last season, 73.7 percent of their rebounding and 61.7 percent of their assists.

Fort Hays State reached 20 wins for a 13th-consecutive season last year, extending the longest active streak of 20-win seasons in Division II. It is tied for the sixth-longest active streak of 20-win seasons across all NCAA Divisions. The next-best active streak of 20-win seasons in the MIAA is three (MWSU, MSSU), while the next-best streak in DII is Drury with 11. Only five DI programs have longer active stretches of 20-win seasons, including UConn (31), Baylor (24), Stanford (23), Florida Gulf Coast (20) and Louisville (14).

The Tigers are ranked 23rd in the WBCA DII Coaches Poll and 22nd in the D2CSC National Media Poll to begin the 2024-25 season. It is the sixth time in school history that the Tigers have been ranked in each preseason poll. It is also the sixth time FHSU has been ranked 23rd in the coaches poll and the first since November 2022. FHSU is 3-4 when ranked 23rd and 157-43 all-time when ranked.

Fort Hays State tops this year's MIAA Preseason Media Poll, while the Tigers are second in the Coaches Poll. The Tigers have been no lower than fifth in each of the last 13 preseason coaches polls, including four appearances at No. 2 and a pair of picks to win the league.

The Tigers played in one official exhibition game during the preseason, traveling to Storrs, Conn. to take on the UConn Huskies. FHSU gave the second-ranked team in Division I all it could handle in the first quarter, trailing 15-11 after 10 minutes, before ultimately falling by a final score of 89-49. Eleven different Tigers scored in the game, including nine points, four rebounds, three blocks, three steals and one assist from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/olivia-hollenbeck/8329">Olivia Hollenbeck</a>. The Maize, Kan. native enters her fifth year at FHSU with 1,732 career points, fourth-most in school history. She is third on the DII active points list. DeGarmo also ranks second in team history with 965 career rebounds.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/olivia-hollenbeck/8329">Olivia Hollenbeck</a>&nbsp;became the fourth player in team history to earn all-conference honors in four consecutive seasons last year, picking up third team All-MIAA honors. She is 10th in team history with 1,402 points while ranking second with 169 career blocks.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/kate-dilsaver/8327">Kate Dilsaver</a>&nbsp;scored a career-high 17 points in her most recent outing, doing so on 6-of-11 shooting in the Central Region semifinal matchup against Minnesota State. The Lincoln, Neb. native enters her senior season with 397 career points, 237 career rebounds and exactly 100 career steals.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/megan-earney/8328">Megan Earney</a>&nbsp;heads into her senior season with 93 career 3-pointers made, including 30 last season. She needs seven more to reach 100 career 3-point makes.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/brooke-loewe/8331">Brooke Loewe</a>&nbsp;is FHSU's top returning assister from a year ago, dishing out 91 dimes for an average of 2.8 per game in 2023-24. The Huxley, Iowa native has totaled 155 assists across 61 games over her first two seasons in a Tiger uniform.

Fort Hays State has had success against teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in the past, accumulating an all-time record of 47-19 against current NSIC programs.

The Tigers are 0-2 all-time against Augustana, losing to the Vikings in 1991 and 2022. Both of those matchups were also at a neutral site. FHSU led for nearly 30 minutes before Augie rallied for a 62-59 win two years ago (11/11/22).Fort Hays State won its only matchup with MSU Moorhead, eliminating the Dragons from the 2019 NCAA Division II Central Region Championships in the semifinals (3/16/19). The Huxley, Iowa native has totaled 155 assists across 61 games over her first two seasons in a Tiger uniform.Fort Hays State has had success against teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in the past, accumulating an all-time record of 47-19 against current NSIC programs.The Tigers are 0-2 all-time against Augustana, losing to the Vikings in 1991 and 2022. Both of those matchups were also at a neutral site. FHSU led for nearly 30 minutes before Augie rallied for a 62-59 win two years ago (11/11/22).Fort Hays State won its only matchup with MSU Moorhead, eliminating the Dragons from the 2019 NCAA Division II Central Region Championships in the semifinals (3/16/19). The Tigers won 71-60 on their home floor to advance to the regional title game.Augustana was picked 11th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll after turning in a record of 7-20 last season.
