ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Fort Hays State needed just one goal to defeat Ouachita Baptist on Saturday. The No. 14 ranked Tigers moved to 6-1-2 overall and 4-0 in the GAC with the 1-0 win. Ouachita Baptist moved to 4-3-1 overall and 1-2 in the GAC.
The lone goal of the match happened in just the 7th minute as Juan Linares struck a ball from several yards out which found the head of Cayetano Simon Diaz at the back post for a header goal. It was the first goal of the season for Simon Diaz and third assist for Linares, who now leads the team with nine points for the season (3 goals, 3 assists).
The Tigers outshot OBU 7-2 in the first half, but OBU had the advantage in the second half at 5-3. FHSU finished with a three-shot advantage overall (10-7). FHSU had to make one team save to keep OBU scoreless.
Payton Roehrich picked up his third individual shutout of the season in goal with result and did not have to record any saves. Isaac Murie played all 90 minutes in goal for OBU and recorded four saves.
The Tigers continue GAC play next week at Southern Nazarene on Thursday (Oct. 1).
