A basketball game was played. There was a winner. However, in the end, it was all to raise money for ALS.&nbsp;

"It was all for a good cause. It was a fun atmosphere," said Thomas More Prep-Marian student council sponsor Emma Stroyan, who not only helped her students plan the event but also played in the game.&nbsp;

The planning began at TMP in August 2023 for a student service project. That quickly transformed into an idea to include Hays High School's student council for a combined effort.

The student council members from both schools made plans, had lunch together and was ready to go in March. The original date though was scrapped due to terrible weather conditions that threatened the safety of any one attending the event.

One month later the game was moved to Hays High.

A large student section showed up for both schools, helping create the night's rivalry. Each school's pep bands also played.

In addition to the game, half-court shots were taken to win prizes, raffle prizes were given away and a three-point contest was conducted at halftime. Two students from TMP won the shooting contest, leaving Hays High student council sponsor Alan Neal to receive a whipped cream pie to the face.

"We didn't know what to expect. Awesome turnout. Kids were here, kids were rowdy. ... But an amazing fun night," Neal said. He also gives full credit to TMP and its STUCO for the idea and for initiating contact with Hays High.

A traveling trophy was awarded to TMP, who won the game 49-41. Likely, though, the most important stat of the night was the zero injuries suffered by the staff members. The hope is that the game will remain a yearly collaboration through the change of student council members from year to year. $1,400 was raised in the inaugural event.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alec Marsh and four relievers combined for a six-hitter as the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 Wednesday night.

Maikel Garcia and Salvador Perez each had two hits and an RBI for Kansas City, which bounced back from a loss in the series opener on Monday to win two straight.

“That’s Royals baseball," said Bobby Witt Jr., who is batting .350 during a five-game hitting streak. "We've got to keep doing that. Get on the base paths. Be aggressive. Make things happen. The bats will come around and (we'll) hit some homers, too.”

John Schreiber (2-0) picked up the win in relief. James McArthur earned his sixth save.

“It’s been awesome,” McArthur said. “Those guys coming in early in the game kind of sets the tone for us to come in later. We all have a really good idea of what we’re trying to do in the pen.

"The coaches do a great job of giving us good scouting reports, and then we can always rely on (catchers) Salvy (Perez) and Freddy (Fermin). We just try to pass the baton to each other and feed off each other.”

Yariel Rodríguez (0-1) gave up three runs on six hits in four innings. He struck out two and walked two.

Marsh left the game with one out in the fifth inning after taking a line drive off his right forearm. He fielded the ball and threw out Addison Barger at first, but was removed after that. He gave up no runs on two hits.

“We feel like we got pretty lucky,” manager Matt Quatraro said. “It got him in like just above the elbow, on the forearm, but squaring him up. I mean, you could see (the laces) pretty good.

"He was saying, ‘Oh, it’s coming back. It’s coming back.’ We've got to use our heads there a little bit.”

The Royals scored in the first, helped by a couple of walks by Rodriguez. Witt and Vinnie Pasquantino walked with one out, and Perez lined a single to left to score Witt.

The Royals added a run in the second. Kyle Isbel hit a two-out double that Barger misplayed into three bases. Barger, who made his debut Wednesday, played right field and third base in Triple-A. He broke in and the ball sailed over his head. Garcia singled, scoring Isbel with the Royals' second run.

The Blue Jays have scored just seven runs in the last three games, two of them 3-2 losses. Toronto manager John Schneider is not worried.

“It’s a matter of time," he said. "You got to keep plugging away. Everyone knows how we’re built, but it takes a game or two to really get rolling. And I think the encouraging part is we are where we are (record-wise) without firing on all cylinders really. So, we’re confident it will turn around.”

The Blue Jays got on the board in the fifth when George Springer homered off reliever Angel Zerpa.

The Royals chased Rodriguez with three straight singles in the fifth. Witt's single scored Isbel with KC's third run.

Toronto got an RBI groundout from Ernie Clement to pull within 3-2 in the sixth.

Blue Jays: OF Kevin Kiermaier was placed on the 10-day injured list with left hip flexor inflammation. Toronto called up Addison Barger from Triple-A Buffalo to take his place. Barger made his MLB debut in left field and hit eighth in the order.

The Blue Jays and Royals will conclude their four-game series Thursday afternoon. The Blue Jays will send RHP Jose Berrios (4-0, 0.85 ERA) to the mound to face LHP Cole Ragans (0-2, 4.32 ERA).

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State track and field teams picked up 11 event victories, while recording five national qualifying marks at the 2024 FHSU Alex Francis Classic Wednesday afternoon at the FHSU Track &amp; Field Facility. The men picked up three provisional marks, while the women finished with two.

Toby Wahlmeier's&nbsp;swift 200m sprint of 21.20 seconds earned him a podium finish and improved his provisional mark. Wahlmeier has DII provisional marks in the 100m and 200m sprints. Ethan Lang&nbsp;placed second in the 400m in a time of 49.29 seconds. On the women's side, Maggie Remsberg and Taylor Savolt&nbsp;came within half a second of a provisional mark in the women's 100m hurdles. Remsberg finished second with a personal best of 14.52 seconds and Savolt finished in 14.66 for a third-place finish. Tori Poe&nbsp;finished second in the women's 100m in a personal best time of 12.01 seconds. Kinsley Brown&nbsp;had a top-three finish in the 200m in a time of 24.69 seconds and placed second in the 400m in a time of 57.89 seconds.

Among standout moments on the track were the 800m races, where Faith Little's&nbsp;speed propelled her to victory in 2:19.25, while Lucorien DeBoest commanded the men's 800m, crossing the line in an impressive 1:54.97. In the women's 1,500m, Jaycee Vath&nbsp;stamina led the field with a time of 4:45.49, while Ethan Fisher secured a win in the men's 1,500m, clocking in at an astonishing 3:57.69. Noah Morenz topped the 3,000m steeplechase in a time of 9:41.24. Carsyn Turpin&nbsp;earned a victory in the men's 5,000m, winning the event with a time of 15:50.04.

In the men's field events, Dayton Williams&nbsp;soared to victory in the high jump, clearing an impressive height of 6-9.75, securing not only the top spot but also improving his previous provisional mark. Keomonie Archie&nbsp;leapt 24-feet, 2.5-inches in the long jump for victory. Archie's long jump marked his personal best and improved his provisional. Kurtis McCormick&nbsp;placed second in the pole vault with a height of 15-feet, 4.25-inches.

In the women's field events, Liberty Booker&nbsp;showcased her dominance in the throwing events, delivering a sensational performance in the hammer throw with a winning distance of 175-4.0. Booker's outstanding achievement not only secured her the top position, but also a DII provisional mark. She was second in the shot put with a throw of 43-feet, 3.25-inches. After strong showings on the track, Savolt won the women's long jump in a distance of 18-feet, 8-inches.

Annabeth Baalmann&nbsp;demonstrated her ability in the pole vault, securing victory with a commendable height of 12-feet, 7.5 inches. Baalmann's performance earned her first place, as well as another provisional mark for the sophomore standout. Ryhann Brown&nbsp;showcased her skills with a throw of 137-feet, 1-inch, securing a second-place finish and a DII provisional mark. Jessica Saunders&nbsp;placed third in the discus with a throw of 146-feet, 2-inches.

The team will have ample time to get ready for the MIAA Championships set for next weekend (May 3-5). The team will have one more chance to get provisional marks at the Loper Twilight in Kearney, Neb. before national qualifiers head to Emporia, Kan. for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Morgan Brasser&nbsp;tied for 12th place to lead the Tigers after posting rounds of 76, 78 and 76. The senior tied for second in the field with 35 pars across the 54-hole competition. Shauna Lee&nbsp;was 44th with rounds of 82, 89 and 87, while Hayden York&nbsp;finished in a tie for 45th with rounds of 91, 86 and 82 and Ella Neuhauser&nbsp;fired three-consecutive rounds of 88 to finish 48th.

Central Missouri captured the team title with a total score of 907, defeating Rogers State by nine shots. Nebraska-Kearney's Juliana Botero Molina won the individual title with a total score of 7-over, posting rounds of 78, 71 and 74.

⛳ Tigers women finish 10th at MIAA Championships

The Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association recently announced their 2024 award winners and Hays High's Harley Zimmerman is the 5A Boys Senior Wrestler of the Year.

Zimmerman went 42-0 and won the state title at 144 pounds in February.

HAYS - The TMP baseball team dropped their second straight
doubleheader on Tuesday as they’ve now lost a season-high four straight games, losing
to Great Bend 9-0 and 11-5.

Game 1: Great Bend 9, TMP 0 In the first game the Panthers used a five-run fifth inning
and out-hit the Monarchs 13-5 in the 9-0 victory.

The two teams were scoreless through two innings before the
Panthers plated two runs in the top of the third inning.

They added five in the fifth and two more in the sixth for a
9-0 lead.

Braxton Basgall collected two of the Monarchs five hits.

Ty Schmeidler suffered the loss. He allowed seven runs, four
earned on eight hits in four innings. He struck out five and walked two.

Game 2: Great Bend 11, TMP 5 In the second game the Monarchs jumped out to an early 3-0
lead. Scoring a pair of runs on an error in the first inning and then later in
the inning they scored on a wild pitch.

But Great Bend came back to tie it in the fifth and then
scored eight runs in the sixth inning on their way to the 11-5 victory.

The Panthers outhit TMP 14-2 in game two. Caden Dinkel had
both hits for TMP.

Issac Purinton suffered the loss for the Monarchs. He
allowed 10 runs, just three were earned on eight hits in two and two thirds
innings relief. 

TMP is now 10-6 and will travel to Russell on Friday.

HAYS -&nbsp;The TMP-Marian Monarchs softball team earned a split of a
home doubleheader with the Hoisington Cardinals Tuesday at the TMP softball
field. 

TMP rallied from a deficit in game one, scoring four times
in the bottom of the sixth inning on their way to a 6-3 victory. But in game
two the Monarchs were held to just two hits in a 10-0 Hoisington win.

GAME 1: TMP 6, Hoisington 3 In the first game of the doubleheader the Monarchs got onto
the scoreboard first win Brooke Koenigsman tripled to right scoring Halle
Dreiling with two out putting TMP up 1-0.

Bria Windholz led off the bottom of the second inning with a
double and later scored on an error giving TMP a 2-0 lead. 

Hoisington though answered right back with two runs in the
top of the third tying the game at two.

The game would stay that way until the Cardinals took a 3-2
lead on a two-out single in the top of the fifth inning.

Trailing by one the Monarchs did all their damage with two
outs, Brooke Koenigsman, Bria Windholz and Nicole Schumacher had three straight
RBI singles and TMP scored on an error giving the lead for good and a 6-3
victory.

Brooke Koenigsman and Bria Windholz each finished two-for-three at the plate. Koenigsman drove in two runs and Windholz scored two.

Brynn Rebel earned the win for TMP. She allowed three runs, just one earned with six strikeouts in seven innings.

GAME 2: Hoisington 10, TMP 0 In the second game of the doubleheader, Hoisington starter
Ellie Crawford held the Monarchs to just two hits, while striking out 10 in the
10- victory.

TMP didn’t advance a runner past second in the game.

Hoisington scored two runs in the first, three more in the
second and four in the fourth.

Hannah Rose and Brooke Koenigsman collected the two hits for TMP.

Bria Windholz suffered the loss for TMP. She allowed 10 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits with six walks and two strikouts in six innings.

The Monarchs are now 12-4 and will host Hays on Thursday.

🥎 TMP softball splits doubleheader with Hoisington

LIBERTY, Mo. - The Fort Hays State baseball team dropped its final non-conference game of the season Tuesday afternoon (April 23), losing 10-4. The Tigers (24-22) led 1-0 after one inning and 3-2 after two frames, but the Cardinals (25-17) scored the final six runs of the day to take the win, avenging an 11-8 loss to FHSU last week at Larks Park.

The Tigers jumped out to a quick start when Cesar Saavedra and Isaiah Ural led off with back-to-back singles. The pair executed a double steal before Brady Kreutzer lifted a sacrifice fly to center, plating the first run of the game. Elliott Herrmann then worked a walk to put runners on the corners, but the Cardinals got out of the jam with a strikeout and a flyout.

The Cardinals responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, but FHSU punched right back with two more runs in the top of the second. Sebastian Burgos worked a leadoff walk before Luis Ayala pulled a double into the left-field corner. Ural followed with a two-out double of his own, plating a pair to put the Tigers back in front, 3-2.

Two walks and two hits allowed Jewell to regain the lead in the bottom of the inning, 4-3, before both teams left men on base in a scoreless third inning. Fort Hays State tied things up in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Ural. The Tigers later loaded the bases with one out, but were unable to regain the lead after the Cardinals escaped the inning with a strikeout and flyout.

Three hits, one walk and one beaned batter allowed the Cardinals to respond in the bottom of the inning, regaining a 6-4 lead. The Jewell bullpen then took control, retiring 12 consecutive batters to help maintain the lead. Zane Knox eventually broke through with a single in the eighth, but the Tigers were unable to push across another run in the contest. Jewell tacked on four insurance runs in the sixth before Tanner Vaughn and Shaun Gomez both worked 1-2-3 innings in the seventh and eighth, respectively.

⚾FHSU Baseball Stumbles at William Jewell

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Bobby Witt Jr. delivered the go-ahead double in the fifth inning for Kansas City after a costly error by Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and the Royals' bullpen shut down Toronto the rest of the way in a 3-2 victory Tuesday night.

Chris Stratton (2-1) minimized the damage when he inherited a bases-loaded jam from Michael Wacha in the fifth. He also took care of the sixth before John Schreiber handled the seventh and James McArthur breezed through the eighth.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro opted to send McArthur out for the ninth, and the Blue Jays' Cavan Biggio appeared to begin the inning by beating out a single, only for the call to be overturned upon review. George Springer followed with a single and went to second on Guerrero's groundout, but McArthur got Bo Bichette to ground out to finish off his fifth save of the season.

“You don't get too many opportunities with the extra outs there, but we were able to make them pay,” Wacha said. “Bobby came through for us, like he so often does, and the bullpen shut the door for us.”

Kevin Gausman (0-3) allowed three runs — none of them earned — on seven hits and a walk over 6 2/3 innings for Toronto.

“I mean, Guasman led the league in strikeouts last year and he had one or two in six-plus,” Quatraro said, “so just getting the ball in play. Not every contact is going to be solid. But you know, make something happen”

Wacha allowed two runs on eight hits and three walks for Kansas City, but he needed 96 pitches to get through 4 1/3 innings. But while he was plenty erratic — Wacha plunked Davis Schneider to load the bases in the fifth — he also was victimized by some bad luck, including a series of weakly hit singles that the Blue Jays turned into a 1-0 lead in the third.

After Wacha left with the bases loaded in the fifth, Alejandro Kirk's sacrifice fly gave the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.

The Royals' comeback in the bottom of the fifth began with a blunder: Adam Frazier was caught in a rundown between third base and home for the second out of the inning. But he stayed alive long enough for Michael Massey to reach second base, and moments later, Guerrero allowed the throw for what should have been the final out of the inning to go right past him.

“What can I say? I just missed the ball, period,” Guerrero said through an interpreter.

Massey came around to score, Maikel Garcia followed with a base hit and Witt's double to left gave Kansas City a 3-2 lead.

“Just tried to control the moment. Control what I could control,” Witt said.

The Royals nearly added to that advantage in the seventh, when Garcia drew a two-out walk and Witt singled for his third hit of the night. Vinnie Pasquantino then hammered a pitch from Nate Pearson, but it skirted outside the foul pole in right field, and the Toronto reliever proceeded to strike him out to end the threat.

Turned out that the Royals didn't need any more runs the way their bullpen performed.

“I mean, it was a one-run game, so there was no margin for error,” Quatraro said. “They put up 4 2/3 scoreless against a really good team, so I can't overstate them enough. Without that, we're either still out there or we're behind."

The national governing body announced its calendar of domestically held international events Tuesday, along with awarding the U.S. championships to Wichita. The event will run from Jan. 20-26 at INTRUST Bank Arena.

combined to score 37 total runs and Aubree Thomas became the all-time strikeout
leader in program history as the Indians sweep Garden City on the road Monday 16-0
and 21-2.

GAME 1: Hays 16, Garden City 0 Lakyn Zimmerman got the scoring start for the Indians with a
sacrifice fly in the first inning, for a 1-0 Hays lead.

After a scoreless second the Indians offense exploded for
their first of two seven-run innings.

They scored seven runs on seven hits in the top of the third
inning. Dani Willeford triple in two runs, Riley Dreher drove in a run with an
RBI single and then two batters later Avery Solida and Jaylee Summers connected
on back-to-back RBI singles making it 6-0 Hays. 

Later in the inning Haley Rees
added an RBI single of her own and Lauren Klein plated a run on an RBI
groundout to put Hays up 8-0.

Solida added a second RBI with a fourth inning groundout
putting Hays up 9-0.

In the Indians second seven-run inning, they plated seven
runs on five hits. 

After a pair of singles to open the inning, Desarae Schmidt
got the offense started with a two-run single. Later in the inning Dreher added
another two-RBI single and then Summers walked with the bases loaded and Shae
Augustine single in two runs giving Hays the 16-0 lead.

Hays’ Aubree Thomas allowed just two hits in five shutout
innings and struck out six. She became the career strikeout leader at Hays High
surpassing Melissa Beyer Schoepf with 369.

Riley Dreher drove in three runs and finished four-for-four
at the plate.

GAME 2: Hays 21, Garden City 2 The offensive onslaught continued into game two for the
Indians, scoring six runs in the first inning and then five each in the second,
third and fourth in a 21-2 victory.

Desarae Schmidt led off the first with a double and then
scored the game’s first run on a Dani Willeford ground out.

After the first of two Riley Dreher triples, Lakyn Zimmerman
drove in a run with a single making it 2-0 Hays.

Later in the inning Jaylee Summers and Haley Rees had back-to-back
RBI singles for a 4-0 Hays lead. The Indians also took advantage of a Garden
City error, scoring two runs for a 6-0 lead.

In the five-run second Dreher homered scoring two runs, Rees singled in a run and Shae Augustine drove in two with a single making it 11-0

Willeford and Dreher hit back-to-back run scoring doubles as
part of a five-run third inning as the Indians took a 16-1 lead into the bottom
of the third.

Schmidt tripled in a pair of runs, Zimmerman walked with the
bases loaded and Augustine plated another run with a single putting Hays up
21-2.

Dreher finished four-for-four with a homerun, two triples
and a double. She also drove in five runs. Solida finished three-for-three.
Rees scored three times and Augustine drove in three.

Dreher earned the win in the circle. She allowed two

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs announced Monday that they signed coach Andy Reid, general manager Brett Veach and team president Mark Donovan to contract extensions, though the team did not say how long the deals would last or provide any other details.

The Chiefs only said in a statement that “the leadership team of the Chiefs will remain in place for the long-term future.”

“Mark, Brett and Andy have achieved historic success together, and we are thrilled that they will continue in their roles for many years to come,” Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement. “Individually, Mark, Brett and Andy each represent the best in the National Football League at their respective positions, and together, they make up one of the finest leadership teams in all of professional sports. They have been tremendous leaders for this organization on and off the field."

On the field, the Chiefs have won seven consecutive AFC West titles, four conference championships and three Super Bowl titles, including the past two. They also have been in six consecutive AFC championship games.

They will head into next season trying to become the first team ever to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Clark and the entire Hunt family for giving me the opportunity to lead this historic franchise,” Reid said in a statement. “There have been so many people that have contributed to our success and Super Bowls, and I’m grateful to the players, coaches and staff that have all invested their time into this process."

Veach, who was largely responsible for drafting Patrick Mahomes before he was promoted to GM, has worked side-by-side with Reid to build one of the deepest rosters in the NFL. Veach has been particularly adept when it comes to the draft, selecting such stars as linebacker Nick Bolton and All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie in recent years.

Donovan has been in charge of off-the-field work, such as expanding the team's international fanbase and footprint.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Bo Bichette had a bases-clearing triple, Daulton Varsho hit a two-run homer and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Kansas City Royals 5-3 on Monday night.

The Jays have won seven of nine. The Royals lost their third straight at home after winning their previous nine at Kauffman Stadium.

Yusei Kikuchi (2-1) was efficient early, allowing one baserunner on 48 pitches in the first five innings.

“(Kikuchi) was lights out early, he just ran into trouble on the sixth,” Toronto manager John Schneider said. “That’s as efficient as I’ve ever seen him with his pitch count. He was attacking guys, getting weak contact and strikeouts.

"And (we got) huge hits from Bo and Varsho, obviously.”

Kikuchi allowed a two-run home run by Maikel Garcia in the sixth. With two outs, Vinnie Pasquantino hit an infield single and Salvador Perez followed with a double. But Kikuchi retired Nelson Velázquez on a grounder to end the threat.

“My fastball was working really well today,” Kikuchi said through an interpreter. “I was able to throw it up in the zone to a lot to those hitters.”

Right-hander Tyler Duffey, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Omaha earlier Monday, worked two scoreless innings in relief, striking out three.

Jordan Romano surrendered a homer by Kyle Isbel in the ninth but finished for his third save of the season and 100th of his career.

“That’s awesome for him,” Schneider said. “Knowing him for a long time and seeing him as a starter in the minors, a lot of credit goes to him. It’s not easy to do, whether it’s a three-run lead or a one-run lead. He’s been doing it for a number of years now. (I'm) really glad we won, but really happy for him. He’s actually turned himself into a pretty elite closer.”

Brady Singer (2-1) allowed five runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked three, all of whom scored.

“(Singer) was throwing harder at the beginning of the game,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “He had some good movement on his two-seamer and in his breaking ball. He threw a couple four-seamers in there as well. But he really just got hurt by the walks.”

Singer struck out the first two Toronto batters in the second inning, becoming the 19th Royals pitcher to reach 500 career strikeouts. He tied Steve Busby as the fastest Royals pitcher to achieve the milestone, getting there in his 100th appearance.

“I'm fortunate enough to play this game, so it's really cool,” Singer said.

Singer issued two walks in the third that cost him. His free pass to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. loaded the bases, and Bichette lined a triple off the glove of center fielder Garrett Hampson to score three runs.

Varsho's homer in the sixth made it 5-0, and the Royals' two homers weren't enough.

“The homers are nice,” Quatraro said. “We just need to sustain some things and be able to score in other ways as well.”

Royals: LHP Anthony Veneziano was optioned to Omaha to make room for Duffey.

Blue Jays: RHP Alek Manoah, who has yet to pitch this season because of a shoulder injury, is scheduled to start for Triple-A Buffalo Wednesday or Thursday.

The four-game series continues Tuesday with Toronto sending Kevin Gausman (0-2, 8.16 ERA) to the mound to face Michael Wacha (1-2, 3.75).

Growing up, Ellis senior Logan Russell had always dreamed of playing college football.

It wasn't until his sophomore season that dream started to look like a reality, when, just by chance, he became the Railroaders' starting punter and kicker and one of the best specialists in the state.

A little more than two years later, Russell officially
signed his letter of intent to play football at Fort Hays State University, earlier
this month.

that junior year hit, I got MCL and first-team all-state in 1A football (honors). That really proved to me that I could do something with the ability that God has given me. My parents have always pushed me to do that.”He took over the punting duties early in his sophomore
season and averaged almost 38 yards per punt in his three years serving as the
varsity punter with 14 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line.<figure>

 </figure>He finished as a three-time all-Mid-Continent League punter
and a two-time all-state selection.Russell said Fort Hays State coach Layton Hickel reached out
first, expressing the Tigers' interest in signing him. He said he was excited to get that phone call."I was sitting in our truck and automatically turned off
the phone and just prayed. I was like, 'Thank you, Lord, for giving me this
opportunity. I know I've been asking so much recently, but I said thank you,
Lord, for giving me this opportunity, and I won't let you down," Russell said.He also said he left his visit with the coaching staff feeling
like he had an opportunity to contribute."After talking with the coaches, they were like, Hey, we have a great opportunity for you to come here. We need some young guys to come in
and fill some roles. And I was like, I can be that guy. So I'm really excited,"
Russell said. Russell said he also wants to help others and be a part of a
support system he experienced with the older Fort Hays State players growing up."Whenever I go to Hays, I want to be like that for
other people if I can," Russell said. "Also, knowing that I have friends, we're
also going to play sports in Hays, so I'm not alone. I can always ask for
help from anyone around here."Russell plans on majoring in pre-physical therapy at Fort
Hays State. "I really like math and science. Those are my two favorite
subjects, and physical therapy has always intrigued me," Russell said. I've always wanted to help people with a passion, and physical therapy is the opportunity for me to do
that."
