HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State women's soccer (0-3-0) came up short in a competitive 1-0 defeat to Augustana University (2-0-1) on Friday night at FHSU Soccer Stadium. The match was scoreless at the half, but saw the Vikings break through with the only goal of the match about 18 minutes into the second half.
The Vikings took the lead in the 63rd minute when Ally Hamski threaded a ball through the Tiger defense to Madelyn White, who prevailed in a one-on-one situation with Tiger keeper Hadley Ostrander. The Tiger keeper had a strong night, making several key saves earlier to keep the game level.
Ostrander recorded four saves on the night. Sydney Cotter and Chaley French each took two shots. Makenzie Nelson led Augustana with four shots, followed by White with three. Vikings keeper Taya Baker had three saves.
In their next match, Fort Hays State hosts Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday (Sept. 14) at FHSU Soccer Stadium. The matchup is set for a noon.
