COLUMBIA, Mo. — Fort Hays State men's soccer (2-0-2) secured a 2-0 victory over Thomas More (Ky.) (1-2) on Sunday at R. Marvin Owens in a neutral site contest between the teams. Elias Ovelar Semeniuk and Juan Linares each found the net, while the No. 22 ranked Tigers posted a shutout for the third time in four matches this season.
Fort Hays State took an early lead with Ovelar Semeniuk scoring in the 15th minute, assisted by Joseph Street. He flipped the ball up over the keeper for his second goal of the season after a nice lead pass by Street. FHSU recorded nine shots in the opening half, while goalkeeper Payton Roehrich made three saves to maintain the 1-0 advantage.
The Tigers doubled their lead when Juan Linares scored his second goal of the season in the 61st minute, assisted by Ovelar Semeniuk. FHSU went on to dominate the shot count in the match 20-8. Roehrich added two saves in the second half to finish with five for the match, picking up his third clean sheet of the season. Thomas More keeper Diogo Cardoso had six saves in the match.
Mario Leal Vales led the Tigers with a fourth of the team's shots, finishing with five in the match. Three of Ovelar Semeniuk's four shots in the match were on target.
Fort Hays State plays its final two non-conference matches next week at home, starting with Lubbock Christian on Thursday evening (Sept. 18) at 7 p.m. They also host Jamestown (N.D.) on Saturday evening.
