Roy A. Nickel, 91, died Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the Logan County Hospital, in Oakley, KS. He was born September 20, 1932, in Goessel, KS, to Arnold and Lena (Gossen) Nickel. Roy attended a one room schoolhouse in Marion County. On December 7, 1952, he married Bernice Keller. Roy served in the United States Army as a medic in Korea and earned the ranking of Private First Class. Roy spent the rest of his years farming, which he enjoyed doing with his grandson David Collins and great grandchildren, Cort, Gracen and Rhett Collins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice; his parents; brothers, John Nickel and Bob Nickel and sisters, Joan Snyder, and Irene Stoecker.

He is survived by his children, Roy A. Jr. (Ilene) Nickel, or Corpus Christi, TX, Debbie (Mike) Collins, of Colby, KS, Robert (Donna) Nickel, of Augusta, KS, and Jennifer (Ron) Barber, of Topeka, KS; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sisters, Lois Schroeder, Elma Becker, and Julie Whitman and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

&nbsp;Georgia Lea (Davis) Rowh, 98, formerly of Norton, Kansas, passed on to her heavenly home on April 2, 2024, at the Citizens Medical Center in Colby, Kansas following a short illness. Georgia was born in Dellvale, Kansas to Mazie and Percy Davis, and was the oldest of three girls and a boy. The family moved to Clayton, Kansas when she was a young girl where Percy owned a grocery store. She graduated from Clayton High School in 1944. Following graduation, she attended secretarial school in Kansas City, then moved to Denver with her sister, Dorothy, to work as a bookkeeper at a wholesale lumber company.

In 1946 she married a classmate from Clayton, Lyman Rowh, when he returned from serving on Guam in WWII. They were fortunate to celebrate 66 years together until his death in 2012. To this union four children were born: Jay (Rita) in Beloit, Jim currently an evangelist in Kenya, Carla (John) Pilkington in Oakley, and Jon in Norton. The family now includes 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

After spending a few more years in Denver where Lyman graduated from Denver University, they moved back to Norton in 1952 when Lyman was a teacher and administrator in the Norton School System. Georgia was a stay-at-home Mom raising the kids. Lyman went into the car/implement business at Mizell Motor Company in 1960, which Georgia and Lyman later purchased in 1968, changing the name to Rowh Motor Company. Georgia also worked in the office of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 16 years, then worked at the Andbe Home in Norton following the closing of the Norton Bell Telephone office. She particularly enjoyed the many volunteer jobs and service clubs that she participated in, especially for the Norton Christian Church and the Thrift Shop. She was also an avid bridge player.

Georgia and Lyman were fortunate to travel extensively, especially with a group of Norton friends that called themselves “The Rovers”. Together they were able to visit all but two of the fifty states. She and Lyman were totally devoted to the activities of their children and grandchildren, traveling to games, concerts, recitals, and any other activity that called for their attendance. Following Lyman’s passing, she continued to reside in Norton, first at Bieber Cottages and later at Whispering Pines, moving to Colby following the closure of WP in 2022. The move allowed her to be closer to her daughter in Oakley, which turned into a great blessing for all.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyman, two sisters (Dorothy Goodman and Janice Lawshe) and one brother (Rex Davis). Phillipsburg resident, Vernon Lawyer, passed away on April 1, 2024, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas, at the age of 94.&nbsp;

Vernon was born in Elkhart, Kansas, on July 21, 1929, to his parents Harry and Bertha Lawyer.&nbsp;

He was united in marriage to Berneda (McDowell) Lawyer on May 24, 1949, in Kirwin, Kansas.

Vernon is preceded in death by his wife Berneda Lawyer, parents Harry and Bertha Lawyer, son Dean Lawyer, daughter Pam Lawyer, brother Walter Lawyer, brother-in-law Roger Fish, and two infant children.

Survivors include his son Gene Lawyer and wife Ardis of Phillipsburg, Kansas, sister Verla Fish of Yuma, Arizona, daughter–in-law Glennie Lawyer of Aurora, Colorado, and granddaughters Kim Andrews and husband Rush of Aurora, Colorado, and Brooke Estrada and husband Edgar of Bertrand, Nebraska.

A graveside service for Vernon and Berneda Lawyer will be held on April 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at the Bogart Cemetery, outside of Kirwin, Kansas.

Helen Marie Brooks was born on June 7, 1930 to Fred Otto and Tenie Opal (Moler) Ehler on a farm northwest of Dresden, KS.

Helen was raised in the Dresden area and attended grade school in Dresden and then later high school in Oberlin.

Throughout her life she liked being outside. She had a great love for her family, cats, and some of her favorite things to do were to hang laundry on her clothesline and watch the birds in her backyard. She was a kind, loving, and generous lady whose door was always open to family and friends.

She worked several jobs in her life, most of all as a secretary for Oberlin Service Center, retiring after 28 years there.

She was affectionately known as “Moe” to her family and to several at the Good Samaritan in Oberlin, where she resided her last 2 ½ years.

She met her Lord and Savior and entered into heaven on March 30, 2024 at the age of 93.

Helen leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory her daughters: Sharon Black, Betty Heisel, Vicky (Vivan) Heisel; grandchildren: Kevin (Tami) Black, Shelby (Brad) Uehlin, Darci (Brice) Meitl, Gena Woodward, Gavin (Jodi) Heisel, along with many great and great great grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Mary Lee Combs Caves, 101 years young, a longtime Garden City resident, passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2024.

She was born on August 5, 1922, in Allais, Perry County, Kentucky to Molly Walker and Henry Beecher Combs. She was raised in Hazard, Kentucky and attended schools in Perry County, Kentucky. She was raised Baptist and growing up she attended Petrey Memorial Baptist Church in Hazard.

On December 12, 1942, she married Aaron Hurtt in Austin, Indiana. They divorced in 1978. They had six children: Margaret “Margie” (Routh), Charles “Chuck” Hurtt, Marilyn “Kaye” (Lightner), Wanda (Haflich), Alta (Lamaster), and Donald “Donnie” Hurtt.

Mary Lee earned a Certified Nurses Aid Certification in 1982. She held many positions in her life, but she is mostly fondly known for her many years caring for mentally or physically disabled children and adults. She loved sending and receiving mail and for many years corresponded with more than 80 pen pals. She enjoyed embroidery, baking, preparing home cooked meals, and was a life-long member of the VFW. She was compassionate and cared deeply for children and animals.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kaye Lightner of Garden City and Alta Lamaster, and husband Ron, of Leoti. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 20 great great-grandchildren, and three siblings, Iris (Combs) Singleton, Betty (Combs) Donaldson, and Benton Combs.

She is proceeded in death by her children Margie in 2016, Wanda in 2012, Donnie in 1996, and Chuck in 1994, as well as a granddaughter, a grandson, three great-grandchildren, and ten siblings Maude Hensley, Gordon Lee Hensley, Alta Woodkey, and Betsy Combs, and Louise, Beatrice, Calvin, Mary Edna, Cordelia, Clarence, Henry “H.B.” and Sharon Combs.

She was born November 4, 1936 at Kinsley, the daughter of Manuel and Pauline Rey Chacon.

A longtime area resident, she was a hospital nurse aid. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, PVCH Auxiliary, and Homemaker EHU, all of Larned. She was a very special aunt to her nieces and nephews. Carlotta was a faithful supporter of the blood mobile and anything benefiting the “US of A”.

On November 3, 2001 she married Dr. W.R. Brenner at Larned; he preceded her in death July 19, 2013.

Survivors include: step son, William Brenner Jr., Williamsburg, Virginia; three step daughters, Barbara Polston, Kansas City, Missouri, Anne Armstrong, Fairbanks, Alaska, Katherine Brenner, Eugene Oregon; brother, Martin (Kathleen) Chacon, Hutchinson, Kansas; two sisters, Rosalie Castaneda, Lewis, Margaret (Joe) Garcia, Larned; eleven step grandchildren, ten step great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; two step sons, Robert Brenner and Stephen Brenner; four brothers, Valentine Chacon, Florentino Chacon, Louis Chacon and Juan Manuel Chacon; and a sister, Anne Molina.

Ruby Mae (Staab) Nowak, 86, of Russell, Kansas, died peacefully on Friday, April 05, 2024, at the Hays Medical center in Hays, Kansas. After 43 years, Ruby was joyfully reunited with the love of her life, Dale.

Ruby was born on March 31, 1938, in Severin, Kansas, the daughter of Alexius and Celestina (Weigel) Staab. She grew up on the family farm north of the Hays area and graduated from the Girls Catholic High School. Ruby was united in marriage to Dale Nowak at St. Severin Catholic Church in Severin, KS on September 26, 1959. Born to this union were the pride and joy of her life, Brett, Elaine and Brian. Ruby loved nothing more than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. On the table for every get together were her famous chicken and noodles, bierocks, banana and poppy seed bread. She always made enough to send leftovers home with everyone. She loved hosting dinners for her friends and the priests of St. Mary’s. She kept a stash of breads in her freezer to ensure that no one left her home empty handed. One thing was for sure, when you were invited for a meal, you never left hungry.

After the sudden death of Dale in 1980, Ruby went back to work to raise her young children. She worked for the Sears Catalog Store for many years and was a receptionist for Morris, Brock, Gudenkauf and Ammons. After retirement, she spent time traveling with her sister, Sr. Louella Staab. The two of them traveled the state visiting her children and took a trip to Germany with her brothers and sisters. Family was very important to Ruby. She enjoyed following her grandkids sporting events and cheering them on. Ruby was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, KS, serving as a Lector and past president of the Ladies Guild. She was a member of the Russell VFW Post #6240 Ladies Auxiliary.

Ruby is survived by her children Brett Nowak (Debbie) of McPherson, KS, Elaine Rohleder (James) of Hays, KS, Brian Nowak (Cherie) of Omaha, NE. She is survived by one sister, Erlene Leiker (Joe), Olathe; two brothers, Ervell Staab, Omaha, NE and Dennis Staab, Olathe, KS; sister-in-law Cacilie Staab, Hays, KS; seven grandchildren Nickolas Nowak and Jarrod Nowak, Jill Bussinger (Taylor), Andrea Clary (Ben), Samuel Rohleder (Kylee),Thomas Rohleder (Ellie), Hunter Nowak, and step-grandson Jacob Curtis (Tessa), . Seven Great Grandchildren, Tinsley and Beckett Bussinger, Archer Clary, Kamree and Ryan Rohleder, Julian and Everett Rohleder; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby Mae (Staab) Nowak, 86, of Russell, Kansas, died peacefully on Friday, April 05, 2024, at the Hays Medical center in Hays, Kansas. After 43 years, Ruby was joyfully reunited with the love of her life, Dale.Ruby was born on March 31, 1938, in Severin, Kansas, the daughter of Alexius and Celestina (Weigel) Staab. She grew up on the family farm north of the Hays area and graduated from the Girls Catholic High School. Ruby was united in marriage to Dale Nowak at St. Severin Catholic Church in Severin, KS on September 26, 1959. Born to this union were the pride and joy of her life, Brett, Elaine and Brian. Ruby loved nothing more than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. On the table for every get together were her famous chicken and noodles, bierocks, banana and poppy seed bread. She always made enough to send leftovers home with everyone. Shana Nicole Carman, 50, of Colby, died Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Citizens Medical Center, in Colby. She was born on August 28, 1973, to Larry and Carol (McElderry) Westerman.

Shana graduated from Kensington High School in 1992 and attended Cloud County Community College and then Fort Hays State University where she received a master’s degree in speech-language pathology. Shana worked for the Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center for over 20 years helping give children a voice.

On June 10, 2000, Shana married Curtis Carman, in Kensington, KS and they made their home in Colby. She loved spending time with her family, friends and especially her children. In her spare time, Shana enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, flowers and sitting with her kitties.

Shana was preceded in death by an infant baby Riley and her grandparents, Frank and Julia Westerman and Marvin and Betty McElderry.

She is survived by her husband Curtis; daughters Oaklynn, Coryl and Blaidynn; her mother Carol (Gary) Friesen; father Larry (Tonja) Westerman; brother Michael (Jolene) Westerman, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Shana Nicole Carman (Westerman)

Cynthia Kathryn Trenkle, 72, of Colby, died Saturday, March 20, 2024, at Citizens Medical Center, in Colby. She was born May 30, 1951, in Atwood, KS, to William and Clara (Gilbert) Wancura. Cindy graduated from Atwood High School with the class of 1969.

In the summer of 1966, Cindy met the love of her life, Clyde “Kevan” Trenkle, while he was traveling through Atwood on a harvest crew. They were married on September 12, 1968, and to this union two children were born, Bryan and Tammy. When the kids were young Cindy enjoyed helping out at their schools.

In the mid 1970’s the family moved to Lincoln, NE for Kevan’s job. His career later took them Scottsbluff, NE, Chamberlain, SD and eventually to Colby, where they retired.

Cindy enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos and collecting eagles, owls and angels. In her free time Cindy enjoyed doing crafts, making holiday wreaths, cross stitch and making candies and cookies. However, her greatest gift was making everyone around her feel loved.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kevan; brother Stanley Wancura and brother-in-law Marvin Cloe.

She is survived by her son Bryan Trenkle; daughter Tammy Allen (Scott Butts); siblings, Gertie (Ted) Kastens, Charlene (Jack) Shelton and Jan (Gary) Kempt; sister-in-law Verda Wancura; grandchildren, Lauren, Bryson, Kennady, Kevan and Karsyn Trenkle, Kelly (Otto) Qualm, Kylee (Brandyn) Van Eaton and Bryant Allen and great grandchildren, Augustus, Leena and Magnus Qualm and Kezdyn Van Eaton.

Jerry Blake, age 63, of Hays, Kansas passed away March 22, 2024 in Hays. He was born in Pinellas County, Florida on October 6, 1960, to William J. Blake and Betty J. Owens.

Throughout his life, Jerry wore many hats, excelling as a Contractor, Cowboy, and Rancher. His love for the outdoors was unparalleled, reflected in his hobbies which included hunting and fishing. Jerry had an artistic side too, finding joy in photography and a profound appreciation for country music. His collection of knives was a testament to his diverse interests.

Among his proudest accomplishments was being a grandfather. Jerry cherished his family above all else and doted on his loved ones.

Jerry is survived by his daughters: Billie Blake of Hays, KS; Heather Blake of Denver, CO; Jennifer Hatman of Erie, PA; and Brandi Hay of Reydon, OK. He is also survived by, Sonny Hightower of Liberal, KS, as well as sister Debbie Jackson. In addition to his siblings, Jerry is survived by 10 adoring grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steve Blake, and sisters, Linda Hardey, and Rita Bennett.

Jane Ann Komarek, 80, passed away March 25, 2024, in Azle, Texas. &nbsp;Jane was born December 1, 1943, in Great Bend, Kan. to Leo and Hilda (Heinz) Kowalsky.

Jane, a long-time resident of Great Bend, recently living in Azle, Plano, and Keller, Texas, was a member of the Roman Catholic faith, and enjoyed gardening, any outdoor activity, and playing Bingo. &nbsp;Above all, Jane enjoyed time with family, never missing her children's activities. &nbsp;While residing in Great Bend, Jane co-owned and operated Komarek's Auto Trim and Upholstery, and more recently worked for Walmart as a greeter and in the garden center.

Survivors include one son, Dale Komarek and wife Alicia of Haslet, Texas; two daughters, Tammy Komarek of Great Bend and Karen Niosi and husband Tony of Loudon, Tenn.; one sister, Glenda Heinz and husband Mark of Ellinwood; and two brothers Alan Kowalsky of Ellinwood, and Kenny Kowalsky and wife Deb of Ellinwood; six grandchildren, Sam McGinnis and wife Ashley, Avery Komarek, Andrew Komarek, Katherine Komarek, Olivia Komarek and Gabby Niosi; and one great-grandchild, Mac McGinnis. &nbsp;She was preceded in passing by one brother, Terry Kowalsky.

Jane Ann Komarek, 80, passed away March 25, 2024, in Azle, Texas. &nbsp;Jane was born December 1, 1943, in Great Bend, Kan. to Leo and Hilda (Heinz) Kowalsky.Jane, a long-time resident of Great Bend, recently living in Azle, Plano, and Keller, Texas, was a member of the Roman Catholic faith, and enjoyed gardening, any outdoor activity, and playing Bingo. &nbsp;Above all, Jane enjoyed time with family, never missing her children's activities. &nbsp;While residing in Great Bend, Jane co-owned and operated Komarek's Auto Trim and Upholstery, and more recently worked for Walmart as a greeter and in the garden center.Survivors include one son, Dale Komarek and wife Alicia of Haslet, Texas; two daughters, Tammy Komarek of Great Bend and Karen Niosi and husband Tony of Loudon, Tenn.; one sister, Glenda Heinz and husband Mark of Ellinwood; and two brothers Alan Kowalsky of Ellinwood, and Kenny Kowalsky and wife Deb of Ellinwood; six grandchildren, Sam McGinnis and wife Ashley, Avery Komarek, Andrew Komarek, Katherine Komarek, Olivia Komarek and Gabby Niosi; and one great-grandchild, Mac McGinnis. &nbsp;She was preceded in passing by one brother, Terry Kowalsky.Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Prakash Kola. &nbsp;Inurnment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. &nbsp;Memorials may be given to Dominican Sisters of Peace, in care of Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd, Great Bend, KS &nbsp;67530.

Arthur August “Art” Wondra, 90, passed away April 2, 2024, at Credo Senior Living, Hoisington, Kansas. He was born on October 25, 1933, in Odin, Kansas, to Joseph and Agnes (Debes) Wondra. On November 14, 1959, he married MaryAnn Huslig in Cunningham, Kansas. She passed on April 28, 2020.

Coming from Odin to Great Bend in 1959, Art worked as a group leader for Marlette Mobile Homes and as a custodian at USD 428. He also worked as a local farmer. Art was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and former member of the Cheyenne Twisters Square Dance Club.&nbsp;

Survivors include four sons, Kevin Wondra (Teresa) of Great Bend, Alan Wondra (Karen) of Wichita, Korey Wondra (Leann) of Hutchinson, and David Wondra of Wichita; daughter, Kathy Walsten (Eric) of Mulvane; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Axman (Doug), Brice Walsten, Kyle Walsten (Emily), Aaron Wondra (Kassade), Alicia Wondra (fiancé Scott Fienen), Lucas Wondra, Zachary Wondra (Jenna), Evan Wondra (Audrey), Joshua Wondra, Andrew Walsten, and Emma Wondra; twelve great grandchildren, Trysten Grant, Parker Wondra, Adalynn Axman, Louisa Walsten, Connor Wondra, Bentyn Fienen, Zella Wondra, Koehn Wondra, Ellis Walsten, Beckham Wondra, Orin Fienen, and Elias Wondra; step grandchild, Sabrina Bailey (Robert); three step great grandchildren, Cameron Nichols, Jordan Holley, and Braden Holley; step great great grandchild, Bella Holley; a brother, Gerald Wondra of Great Bend; and two sisters, Rita Legliter of St. Marys, and Jeanie Hapes of Great Bend.

Mark E. Nichols, 75, passed away March 19, 2024, at Azria Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on November 10, 1948, in Great Bend, Kansas, to James and Ulanda (Karst) Nichols. Mark was a 1966 graduate of Great Bend High School, where he was very involved in various clubs and activities.

Mark was united in marriage to Barbie Mullin in Great Bend, Kansas in 1975.&nbsp;

Mark lived both in California and Wichita, Kansas, for brief periods of time. Living the majority of his life in Great Bend, he was the station manager for a time at KSN-C T.V., as well as a business owner and helped form Nichols Media Group. Sales were his true calling and what he excelled at. He was a salesman for Magnus Broadheads and provided advertising and marketing services for several area businesses.

Mark was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a gun enthusiast, and enjoyed hunting and shooting, especially north of Russell on his cousin’s farm.&nbsp;

Survivors include one son, Robbie Nichols, and two grandchildren, Tyler and Samantha Nichols, all of Washington state.

He is preceded in death by his parents; aunt, Marlene Becker-Steinle; and grandparents, Oscar and Amelia Karst.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Reverend Tom Thierfelder and Reverend Jay Welshonse presiding. Sheila, a longtime resident of Barton County, was a dedicated employee of Sunflower Diversified Services, Dominican Sisters of Peace, and in the past, served as a custodian for M &amp; F Plumbing. &nbsp;She enjoyed listening to polka music, playing Bingo, and watching re-runs of classic sitcoms and movies.&nbsp;

Survivors include two brothers, Steve Ehrlich and wife Aleta of Great Bend, and Scott Ehrlich of Hope Mills, NC; two sisters, Sheryl MacDonald and husband Emerson of Otis, Kan; and numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;She was preceded in passing by her parents, and a sister, Susan Bates.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. Garden City- Jessica Danielle Lemons, 43, died on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Ascension Via Christi St Francis in Wichita. She was born on August 3, 1980 at Lansing, Michigan the daughter of Dan Wayne &amp; Rachelle Lynn (Gray) Roether. She married Brandon Wayne Lemons on June 3, 2000 in Waukegan, Illinois.

Jessica moved with her family to Garden City when she was 2 years old and graduated from Garden City High School with the Class of 1998. She enlisted in the United States Army and in 2000 moved to the United States Navy where she retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 2023 after 23 years in active duty and reserves. She especially enjoyed serving on the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. She received the 2013 Naval Intelligence Professional, Navy Reserve Intelligence Analyst Of The Year Award. In Garden City She worked at the Finney County Attorney Office, Russell Childhood Development Office, Garden City Post Office and currently was the Tech Secretary for USD # 457.

She enjoyed puzzles, reading especially Nora Roberts novels and crime television shows such as Criminal Minds, NCIS and The Office. She collected sea turtles and enjoyed her coffee, running and taking her dog- Peanuts on rides.

She is survived by her 3 Children- Alexander Dakota Lemons of Wichita, Alexis Renee Lemons of Hays and Alyssa Brooklyn Lemons of Garden City, Parents- Dan Wayne &amp; Rachelle Lynn Roether of Garden City and 2 Sisters- Jennifer Marie Orozco and Jamie Lynn George both of Garden City.

Norma Jean (Kellie) Stull, 88, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born on September 15, 1935 in Sutherland, Nebraska to Francis and Esther (Nicholson) Kellie.

Norma was preceded in death by her father, Francis; mother, Esther; stepfather, Fred Stull; older sister, Leila Mae; and nephew, Dennis Burkholder.&nbsp;

Norma is survived by her younger sister, Phyllis; brother-in-law, Richard of Ness City, Kansas; and nieces, Sharlon Mays of Spearfish, South Dakota, Lana Doughtery of Stockbridge, Georgia; and nephew, Terry Burkholder of Florence, Montana.

Norma grew up on a ranch in LaGrange, Wyoming. She liked doing things outside such as harvesting in the large garden, and occasionally milking cows. She graduated from LaGrange High School and attended Peoples Bible College in Colorado Springs. Then began her lifelong career of caring for others, whether babies or much more mature people. When the whole family moved to Rocky Ford, Colorado, she acquired her first automobile – the famous green Volkswagen “Bug”. She liked things neat and, in their places, and enjoyed playing her accordion, reading, and collecting unusual keychains.

Norma’s faith in the Lord was very important to her. During her last days, she expressed to others that she was ready to begin a new life with her Savior.&nbsp;

A graveside service will be held on April 11, 2024 at the Fairview Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Darren Wize officiating.&nbsp;

Norma Jean (Kellie) Stull

Dr. Tomas Garza passed away March 30, 2024 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned, KS.

He was born December 29 in Corpus Christi, TX, and was the son of Emede Garza and Odilia DeLaCruz.&nbsp;

Moving from Caldwell, Texas, he lived in the Larned area since 2012. He started working at Larned State Hospital as a Medical Supervisor, colleague, provider, and friend. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1990 to 1994, was also a truck driver, and so many other things. He was of the Southern Baptist faith. He was a member of the American Legion Riders, Ft. Larned Arms Association and was very active at Macksville High School.

Before he left the house, Tomas always said “Well, I’m going to go be a productive member of society.” He did so many great things and those that knew him each only saw a small piece of the puzzle that made him a man larger than life. Keep an eye out for his published memoir to catch a glimpse of the other pieces that, when combined, made him a truly amazing hero, friend, brother, spouse, and grandfather.

On February 18, 1991, he married his best friend and partner in crime, Elida Peña in Memphis, TN. &nbsp;She followed him everywhere, from the Marine Corps to, eventually, Kansas. Being the Pinky to his Brain, she would always ask, “ ‘Mor, what are we doing tomorrow?” and he would say, “The same thing we do every day Pinky, try to take over the world!”

Other survivors include: mother, Odilia Vargas, San Antonio, TX; son, Tomas (Samantha) Garza Jr., Converse, TX; daughter, Angel Mia Garza, Converse, TX; four brothers, Enrique (Lori) Garza, Arturo Garza, Joe Vargas and Roberto Garza, all of San Antonio, TX and one granddaughter, Mia Elida Garza.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emede Garza and brother, Gilberto Garza.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at United Methodist Church, Larned, with Dr. Kurt Davis presiding. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, KS, with family present from 6-8 p.m. &nbsp;Burial will be in Larned Cemetery with military honors.

Mathilda "Tillie" Evelyn Lacy of WaKeeney, KS, born August 14, 1932, passed away on March 30, 2024, at the age of 91, at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. She was born on August 14, 1932, in WaKeeney, Kansas, the daughter of John Haben and Herminnie Mathilda (Ptaschek) Schneider.

She married Christian Richard Lacy on April 24, 1949, in Wichita, Kansas where they raised their three daughters. Tillie worked at the Cessna plant where she retired as an upholstery seamstress. &nbsp;Retirement did not slow her down. &nbsp;She traveled throughout Europe, parasailed in Hawaii, and rode the Royal Gorge Rush Sky-Coaster in Colorado. &nbsp;She moved to WaKeeney where she worked in housekeeping at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital until she was 80 years old. Tillie was well known for her M&amp;M memorabilia collection, her salt and pepper shaker collections, and a doll collection.

Tillie is survived by her daughters; Mathilda Sipult, Benton, Kansas, Vicki Jett, Sugar Creek, MO, and Tonya Lacy (Rob Schulte), Wichita; four grandchildren, Michelle Pannell, Shane Robertson, Jason Robertson, and Catrina Hinkle; and eight great-grandchildren. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her three brothers, Jacob, Joseph, and Johnny Schneider; her sister, Blanche Butler; and her grandson, Richard Dane Pannell.

A funeral service will be held at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. followed by burial in the WaKeeney Cemetery. &nbsp;A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.
