Franklin P. Mueller – age 75 of Hays, Kansas died peacefully at Hays Medical Center on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born on June 15, 1948, in New York City, New York to Paul E. and Pheobe (Lange) Mueller.&nbsp; The oldest of two children, Franklin spent most of his life in Brooklyn, New York.&nbsp;He lived a full and gratifying life and was loved by friends and family for his creativity, quick wit, humor, and loyalty.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Franklin attended Samuel J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn.&nbsp;While in high school, and with grit and determination that defined each chapter of his life, Franklin taught himself to play bass guitar and started a neighborhood band with close friends.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On January 20, 1967, he married “the girl next door”, Marjorie (Malara), and shortly after they welcomed their only child, Sandra.&nbsp; Marjorie preceded him in death on September 9, 2020.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Franklin had always been good with numbers and early in life he was interested in history, geography, politics, and current events.&nbsp; He had a passion for rock music and took on various jobs in accounting and customer service.&nbsp; Work served the purpose of meeting his family’s basic needs but was not a passion for him. Franklin focused most of his energy on caring for his young family and promoting his rock band, “The Harlots of 42nd Street”, in which he was the bass guitarist.&nbsp; Within the past decade and with the wonder of the World Wide Web, it was his joy to have had his band re-discovered and to have heard from fans who recognized the part this band played in the Glitter Punk music genre within New York City in the early 1970’s.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As time went on, Franklin took on the responsibilities of being a support to his wife as they became care givers for their loved ones.&nbsp; Additionally, he came to know God and accept Jesus as his Lord and savior.&nbsp; To his immediate family, this was a profound change in his life, that he lived into without loud proclamations.&nbsp; As a result, he became a spiritual role-model to family members, who witnessed him as he endeavored to embody the characteristics of Christ.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In 2001, Franklin and Margie moved to Hays, Kansas to be closer to their daughter, Sandra, and granddaughters, Briana, and Alexandra.&nbsp; Having been a fan of westerns his whole life – with numerous childhood pictures of him wearing fringed chaps, a double holster, boots, and a hat –Franklin enjoyed the history of Hays, Kansas as it came to be his home.&nbsp; Proximity and time spent together has been a treasure we will always cherish.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Franklin received quality care from the providers in Hays and we want to extend our sincere thanks to all the providers who supported him in meeting his health needs.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Franklin was a devoted husband, supportive father, and loving grandfather.&nbsp; Left to cherish him and share his legacy are his daughter, Sandra Mueller Aldrich, Hays, KS; his granddaughters, Briana Aldrich and Alexandra Aldrich, Hays, KS; his sister, Helena Mueller, Ann Arbor, MI; his brother-in-law, Gerald Malara, Hays, KS; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Malara, Marlboro, NJ;&nbsp;her former son-in-law, Troy Aldrich, LaCrosse,&nbsp;and numerous nieces and nephews.

“Jerry” N. Zerr, 73, of Oakley, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Logan County Manor. He was born on Wednesday, December 6, 1950, the son of Lawrence and Mary (Maurath) Zerr. He graduated from Triplains High School in 1968.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sister Charlotte Wasko; twin brother Garry Zerr and granddaughter Addison Nickols.

He is survived by his children, Austin (Heather) Zerr, of Russell Springs, KS, Jill (Joey) Nickols, of Norton, KS and Danielle Gonzalez of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Lauren (Justin) Roemer, Chad, Nicholas and Maggie Zerr and Ainsley and Landon Nickols; brothers, Terry (Janet) Zerr of Oakley, Leland (Betty) Zerr of Great Bend and Kenny (Robin) Zerr of Tribune, and many nieces and nephews.

August (Augie) Durham was born on September 18, 1930, to Charles and Rosa (Miller) Durham. He was one of seven siblings. As a young man, Augie joined the Navy and served during the Korean War. After returning stateside, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Shirley (Hamm). Augie and Shirley spent 63 years together and had two daughters: Linda and Judy. Augie enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering on all things mechanical, and spending time with his family. Augie left this earth on April 7, 2024, leaving us all with holes in our hearts.

Augie was preceded in death by his parents; five of his siblings: Clara Jane, Norma Jean, Charles Jr, Elta Mae, and Rosalie; his daughters: Linda and Judy; his granddaughter, Natasha; and beloved dog, Maggie.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, sister Ellie, son-in-law Floyd, grandchildren: Shannon, Holly (partner Nick), Zach (partner Ashley), and Dakota. He also had many great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He will always be loved and missed by all who knew him.

A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, at Beulah Cemetery, Colby. Donna Boxberger-Vise, 80, of Johnstown, Colorado, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

Donna was born on September 7, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.&nbsp; The daughter of Betty Rae (Morgan and Dennis Bluejacket.&nbsp; Dennis was killed in WWII in 1944.&nbsp; Betty married Harlan Boxberger, who later adopted Donna.&nbsp; She graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1961.

Donna was united in marriage to Kenny Hollinger in 1961.&nbsp; This union was blessed with a daughter, Marcy.&nbsp; Kenny and Donna later got a divorce.&nbsp; Donna was united in marriage to Dale Vise in 1987.

Donna was an avid baker for many years at several businesses around the Johnstown area.&nbsp; Her love of stained glass work would lead her and Dale to own a small business of their own.

Donna had fond memories of the family cabin at Fish Lake, Utah when she was in her teens and as an adult.&nbsp; Her and Dale would spend most of their summers there after they retired.&nbsp; She loved fishing and attending the campground pot luck suppers with all their Fish Lake friends.

Donna is survived by her husband Dale of the home; daughter, Marcy Rohr (Kent) of Russell, Kansas; two grandchildren, Brittany Rohr (Zach) of Dodge City, Kansas, and Kaden Rohr (Jordyn) of Hays, Kansas; her blessed three great grandchildren, Jaxton Shipley, Grady Shipley and Blair Rohr; sister, Marsha Scott (Jay) of Hays, Kansas; brother, Sam Boxberger (Lois) of Arlington, Kansas; nephews, Dane Boxberger of Wichita, Kansas, and Cory Boxberger of Wichita, Kansas; niece, Stacey Byington (Dave) of&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis Bluejacket, Harlan and Betty Boxberger and nephew, Matt Stricker.

Lois J. Smith

Lottie Grace Burnett, 100, passed away Monday April 8, 2024 in Dighton, Kansas. She was born in Larned, Kansas on January 21, 1924 to William Barker Hunsley and Sarah Grace (Losey) Hunsley.

She married Howard Burnett August 6, 1941 and together they had three children who still survive. They are Louella Grace (James) Dill, Howard William “Bill” (LaDeane) Burnett, and Linda Jane (Lee) Martindale. She is also survived by two grandsons Michael (Belinda) Martindale and Michael Cabbage, two great-grandsons, three great-great-granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews.

Lottie was preceded in death by her husband Howard Burnett, ex husband Walter Horn, granddaughter Brenda Martindale, daughter-in-law Jo Ann Burnett, half siblings Fanny Schultz, Lori Metzger, Thomas Fern Hunsley and siblings William Barker Hunsley, Lilian Mary Hunsley Burnett, Albert Joseph Hunsley, and Dr. Perry Uriah Hunsley.

She was a farmer’s wife and with that she was involved in all of the daily duties. She did a lot of work; milking, hauling water, drilling wheat, dumping hay in windrows, driving tractor, hauling various machinery, and so forth.

Visitation will take place Wednesday April 10, 2024 at Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton, Kansas from 1:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday April 11, 2024 at the First Christian Church in Dighton, Kansas with Rev Scott Wagner officiating. Harold Gene Wilken, 78, died Thursday April 4, 2024, at The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born July 2, 1945, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Elmer Harold and Margaret Eunice (Whitaker) Wilken.

Harold attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School in 1963. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1964, attending recruit basic training at MCRD San Diego, California. Harold was stationed at Camp Pendleton California, Da Nang Vietnam, Camp Lejeune North Carolina, and was honorably discharged in 1967.

Harold earned a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics from Kansas State University in 1972. He was co-founder of Wilmar Farms in Lakin, Kansas. They farmed alfalfa and then constructed a dairy in 1997. After retiring in 2005, Harold found his passion with woodworking and was a true artist with an astonishing attention to detail. He loved spending time with his family and friends, traveling, and playing a good hand of poker.

On October 12, 1968, he married Nancy Jo Stoner in Garden City and started a family. Harold is survived by his wife Nancy, son and daughter-in-law Brad and Lori Wilken of Seattle, Washington, son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Kimberly Wilken of Bend, Oregon. Additional survivors include sister and brother-in-law Carol and Lee Gross, sister Gayle Gomez, sister and brother-in-law Sheryle and Thomas Pollan, brother and sister-in-law William and Mary Wilken, his two grandchildren Harper Wilken and Maxwell Wilken, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Rev. Jim Akins officiating. Lakin- Phyllis Ann Sullivan, 94, died on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at High Plains retirement Village in Lakin. She was born on April 4, 1930 in Hope, to Max Henry August &amp; Amanda Pauline (Knuth) Miltz. On September 19, 1950 she married Charles A. “Chuck” Sullivan in Herrington.

A Lakin resident since 1970, Phyl was a stay at home Mom when they resided in Hiawatha and David City, Nebraska. She began working as a Clerk and Bookkeeper at Marsh Grocery Store in Tilden, Nebraska, and as a Bookkeeper at the Kearny County Bank from 1970 until her retirement in 1995.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society in Lakin. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing Bridge and Pitch, teaching generations on how to play these two card games. She loved eating meals at the Kearny County Senior Center, Along with many trips to watch her beloved K.C. Royals and gambling at casinos. She volunteered in various organizations in Lakin.

The last several years of her life were spent in her new apartment at the Lakin High Plains Assisted Living Facility. She thoroughly enjoyed her new and old friends alike. If you couldn’t get a hold of her, she could be found putting a puzzle together, playing marbles with Willetta, or playing BINGO and winning more than 1 prize each time. When she moved in, her family increased seven-fold, with the other residents, and the people who assisted her in the golden years of her life; they weren’t nurses, CNA’s, CMA’s, kitchen, laundry, cleaning, janitorial staff, they became her extended family.

Survivors include three sons, Pat (Jane), Steve, P.J. (Janey) Sullivan of Lakin, Two daughters, Loretta (Nick) Nykodym of Norfolk, Nebraska and Theresa (Bruce) Meyer of Palmer, Kansas, 13 Grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren, Sister-In-Law Kathleen Weishaar. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Kathi, 3 sisters and brothers-in-law- Eddlene &amp; Harold Sigle, Maxine &amp; Jack Anderson and Erma Jean &amp; Bob Fry.

The Ke Nguyen, 80, died Thursday, April 4, 2024, at his home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born April 18, 1943, in Vietnam, the son of Tan Nhat Nguyen &amp; Nuong Thi Phan.

The grew up in Vietnam and in November of 1967, he married Ri Thi Nguyen. They moved to Garden City in 1998 and have lived in Garden City since. He worked for many years at BPI (Beef Products, Inc.). The enjoyed reading, watching the news on TV, and gardening.

Survivors include his wife Ri Thi Nguyen of the home; two sons Dien Thanh Nguyen &amp; wife Chastity and Kiet Tuan Nguyen; a daughter Bich Ngoc Thi Nguyen; a brother Lam Buu Nguyen; a sister Be Thi Nguyen; and three grandchildren Elizabeth Nguyen, Catherine Nguyen, &amp; Alexandra Nguyen. Speed resident Willie L. Bushnell passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 85.

He was born July 1, 1938 in Jerome, Idaho the son of Clarence and Blanche (Bradley) Bushnell.

Willie was united in marriage to Ann Carpenter on March 24, 1957 in Phillipsburg. &nbsp;The couple later divorced. &nbsp;He was then united in marriage to Virginia Pfannenstiel in July of 1990 in Phillipsburg.

Survivors include his wife Virginia of Speed; sons William Bushnell and wife Taffy of McPherson and Robert Bushnell and wife Mary of Phillipsburg; daughters Barbara Blakesley and husband Rod of Urbandale, IA and Genny Berkel and husband Shawn of Union, MO; 8 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dan “Dee” Bushnell; sister Zelda Wallgren; a granddaughter Tish Budig; and a great grandson Cameron Burge.

Cremation was planned. &nbsp;A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Mary, a resident of Great Bend since 2015 coming from Florida, Arkansas, and Manhattan, Kan., had been in hotel management for many years. &nbsp;She had also had the pleasure of being employed as a cook and house mom for Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, at Kansas State University. &nbsp;She was a Life Member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliaries, enjoyed fishing, fellowship at the Great Bend Senior Center, crocheting, and, in her younger years, was active with several bowling leagues and CB Radio clubs.

Survivors include one son, Stephen Volpert and wife Dee of Great Bend; three daughters, Teresa Dimond and husband Jeff of Chanute, Kan., Jeanette Hodges of St. George, Kan., and Debbie Wisehardt of Manhattan, Kan.; step daughter, Nancy Volpert of Kent, Wash.; stepson, Jeff Volpert and wife Trina of Topeka, Kan.; one sister; and 23 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. &nbsp;She was preceded in passing by her husband Everette; one stepson, Greg Volpert; one son-in-law, Willard Hodges; and six brothers and four sisters.

Wallace County, KS resident Marlene C. Bolen age 92 passed away on April 2, 2024 at Goodland, Kansas.

Marlene, the second child of Julius and Martha Deines, was born of April 23, 1931 at the Deines farm home south of Wakeeney, KS.

Her grade school years were at the Trego Center Country School. She attended her first two years of high school at Wakeeney. The family moved to Wallace County in 1946 and she graduated from W.C.H.S. with the Class of 1949.

Marlene Deines and Bill Bolen were married August 13, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Sharon Springs, KS. To this union two children, Brenda and Bob were born. For all but ten well-loved years living in the Sand Hills of Nebraska, the family made their home in Wallace, County, KS.

Marlene enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping, and especially, watching her grandchildren rodeo. Being a great grandma was a special joy. She maintained a close relationship with her siblings Harold, Shirley and Janice. Marlene enjoyed working for 20 plus years at the Sharon Springs grade school as a para professional in the special education and chapter 1 reading program.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Bill Bolen, grandson Garrett Nokes and great granddaughters Jalee and Kylee Hawkins, and Sister Shirley Parr.

Surviving family members include her children Brenda (Steve) Morell of McCook, NE. Bob (Lori) Bolen of Sharon Springs, KS. Grandchildren; &nbsp;Justen (Ashley) Nokes, Jamie (Austin) Hawkins, Laura Nokes, Jandie Fanning, Joni Bolen, Jace (Laura) Bolen, Great Grandchildren; Trevor and Parker Nokes, Halli Nokes, Jess Fanning, Luke and Colsen Rush, Jacob, Wyatt, Josie, and Allie Bolen. Longtime Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Harold Vernon Baehler, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 4, 2024 at Hope Springs in Sharon Springs, Kansas.

Harold Vernon was born on April 14, 1938 at the “Collin’s Place” in rural northwest Wallace County, Kansas to Harold Lee “Hap” and Mary Elizabeth (Sullivan) Baehler. He was the only son and youngest sibling of sisters Joan and Barbara “Bobby”.&nbsp;

He started his education at the Fairport country school house and then Wallace County Consolidated High School graduating in 1956.&nbsp;

On September 5, 1959 he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Elizabeth Frances (Betty) Vincent in the Wallace County Courthouse in Sharon Springs. To this union 3-sons were born Vernon Lee, Dusty Dee and Shawn Delbert.

From a young age Harold knew hard work and cowboying. During his upbringing he started working on the W.W. Carter Ranch that his father managed. This is where his admiration for cattle and horses developed into what would be his lifelong passion and legacy. After graduating high school he worked with George and Snick Harrison in the north eastern part of Wallace County on the “Sweat Ranch” and helped with their rodeo string. While rodeoing with the Harrison’s he occasionally rode bulls and calf roped up until the birth of their first son Vernon.

They then moved to the “Gunnels Ranch” in Logan County, where he ran their cattle operation for the next 18 years. This is where he started building onto his personal herd of Hereford cows with the purchase of his first Simmental bull named Rudy, and ultimately settled on raising red Simmental cross cattle, which is what the herd consist of to this day.&nbsp;

On June 22nd of 1964 at a dispersal auction in Cheyenne Wells, CO, Harold purchased two Quarter horse mares, named Babe Hunt and June Hunt. These two mares are the foundation he built Baehler Quarter Horses on.&nbsp;

In 1981 they moved to The Smoky River Ranch in Wallace County where he was a cattleman for Tom and Jim Harrison followed by the Robert Campbell family. This ranch is where he called home up until his death. &nbsp;He built Smoky River Ranch from a small two pen cattle feed lot in the 80s to the thousand head feed yard it is today. He ran the feed truck morning and night for over 40 years until the age of 82 when his grandson Coltin took over.&nbsp;

One of his most noteworthy life experiences and one of his favorite stories to tell was when he rode his horse in the Cotton Bowl Parade with the 7th Calvary drill team in downtown Dallas, Texas.&nbsp;

He was a member of the American Simmental Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. In 2019, Harold was recognized by the American Quarter Horse association for being a 50 year breeder. He registered his first foal in 1966 and has since bred and raised close to 200 foals.

With a reputation for his expertise of cattle and horses, Harold had a knack for spotting issues and effortlessly knowing just how to fix them. In his later years, he traded his saddle for a Polaris Ranger and could often be found with his companion dog Jack by his side, cruising around the ranch. When there was a cattle gathering or branding, Harold would be sitting atop of a bucket or cooler, supervising. He enjoyed doing leather work, as well as braiding bull ropes and headstalls. He loved watching old western movies, RFD TV, and the traffic drive by on 27. &nbsp;A very quick witted man, he had the ability to deliver sharp one liners at the drop of a hat. Harold coined nicknames for everyone he knew, turning even the simplest interactions into unforgettable moments of joy and laughter.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Betty, son Dusty, sister and brother in law Joan &amp; Snick Harrison, &nbsp;brother in law Jack Akers, great nephew JD Hunter, parents in law Vernon &amp; Francis Vincent, and sister in law Pat Rains. Margaret Lou “Barney” (Barnhill) Roberts, 98, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Barney was born January 22, 1926, in Tonkawa, Oklahoma.&nbsp; She was one of five children born to George and Anna (Bidwell) Barnhill.&nbsp; Her family resided in Tonkawa a few years before moving to Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She graduated from Great Bend High School in the Class of 1944.

Barney was united in marriage to Donald Lee “Bud” Roberts on July 21, 1946, in Great Bend.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children; Mac and Lynn.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.&nbsp; Bud preceded her in death on August 7, 1992.

Barney was a devoted wife and homemaker for her family.&nbsp; She also helped Bud with office work in his business for many years.&nbsp; She worked a short time for Marshall’s Jewelry Store and was very active in the Russell Hospital Gift Store.&nbsp; She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Russell.&nbsp; She was an active member of the Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary.&nbsp; When she was younger, she belonged to the “Doll for Dole”, which later was known as “Grandmas for Dole”.&nbsp; Barney was a person who loved to volunteer for community activities and loved helping people in need.&nbsp; Bud and she were known for entertaining family and friends.

Barney’s surviving family include her daughter, Lynn Roberts of Concordia, Kansas; her son, Mac Roberts and wife Laura of Weatherford, Texas; brother, Gary D. Barnhill of Newport Beach, California; sister, Willa Mae Fuhr-Hill of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Travis Roberts and wife Valerie, Tyler Roberts, Laurie Rea and Maggie Dahl; and four great grandchildren, Peyton, Parker, Lizzie and Sophie.

Barney was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud; and two brothers, Jim Barnhill and Richard Barnhill.

Celebration of Barney’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, two Memorials have been established with Russell Reginal Hospital Auxiliary or First Congregation Church.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to the Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Margaret Lou “Barney” (Barnhill) Roberts

Ollie was born in Konawa, OK, in 1934, she moved to Kansas with her family when she was a child. She graduated in 1956 from the Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia with a bachelor’s degree in business and went on to teach high school home economics, typing, and other courses.

After her marriage, Ollie moved to Nebraska, where her children were born, and from there to Ohio. She eventually settled in northern Virginia, where she found a home and many close friends who shared her interest in ensuring that women have opportunities to pursue their educational dreams. Toward that goal, Ollie was an active member of the American Association of University Women.

Ollie also loved music and the arts. She volunteered at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts for many years and was an enthusiastic supporter of public radio. In addition, she was a talented baker whose holiday treats were loved by everyone who tried them.

Ollie died in Reston, VA, on Saturday, January 16, 2016.&nbsp; She was 81. Ollie was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie Molinda and Jimmie Albert Boltin, both of Bunker Hill, and her sister Shirley Beck in 2022.

Ollie is survived by her daughter Susan Parrott of Sterling, VA, her son Andrew Parrott of Ocala, FL, Andrew’s son Evan Parrott, and Evan’s son. Also surviving her are her beloved siblings Mary Heim, Arthur Boltin, and Rebecca Nelson, and their spouses, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—many of whom still live in the Sunflower State.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 12, 2024, at Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas.&nbsp; No visitation is being held.&nbsp; Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.

She volunteered at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts for many years and was an enthusiastic supporter of public radio. In addition, she was a talented baker whose holiday treats were loved by everyone who tried them.Ollie died in Reston, VA, on Saturday, January 16, 2016.&nbsp; She was 81. Ollie was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie Molinda and Jimmie Albert Boltin, both of Bunker Hill, and her sister Shirley Beck in 2022.Ollie is survived by her daughter Susan Parrott of Sterling, VA, her son Andrew Parrott of Ocala, FL, Andrew’s son Evan Parrott, and Evan’s son. Also surviving her are her beloved siblings Mary Heim, Arthur Boltin, and Rebecca Nelson, and their spouses, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—many of whom still live in the Sunflower State.A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 12, 2024, at Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas.&nbsp; No visitation is being held.&nbsp; Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Alice M. Unrein, age 95, passed away on March 22, 2024. She was born October 25, 1928 to Joseph Suppes and Perpetra (Enslinger) Suppes in Liebenthal, Kansas.She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Perpetra Suppes; husband of 56 years, Celly Unrein; son, Gary Unrein; son-in-law, Lyle Knuppel; and three siblings, Severin Suppes, George Suppes and Edward Suppes.

Alice is survived by her daughters Sandy Knuppel, Debra (Roger) Sellers and Karen Blockyou; five grandchildren, Shannon (Neil) Bhargava, Stephanie (Luke) Smith, Shelley (Aaron) Black, Melissa (Kevin) Teat, and Emily (Nick) Williams; 10 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two siblings, Bernadette Urban and Charles (Raeanne) Suppes; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was&nbsp;held 11:30AM, on&nbsp;Wednesday, March 27, 2024, with Rosary taking place&nbsp;prior at 11:00AM, at St. Elizabeth Chapel - Catholic Care Center, 6800 E. 45th Street N., Bel Aire, Kansas 67226. Donna Fae ( Godfrey) Van Kooten was born March 12, 1930 on the family farm east of Long Island, Kansas. &nbsp;She was the third daughter to Albert and Alma (Volgamore) Godfrey. &nbsp;Growing up on the farm with her 4 siblings held many adventures. &nbsp;Like the time her dad traveled to sell cows. He had not yet arrived home at milking time. &nbsp;Sally (the family milk cow) would only allow Albert to milk her. &nbsp;However, Donna Fae liked a challenge. &nbsp;So, she dressed in her dad’s clothes and headed out to milk Sally. &nbsp;The first sniff from Sally gave Donna Fae confidence and false hope. &nbsp;The second sniff sent Donna Fae flying through the air and secured that only Albert would be milking her. &nbsp;That did not deter Donna Fae from her love of animals throughout her life. &nbsp;Donna Fae also loved playing her accordion until the one fateful day when younger sister, Eileen hid under Donna Fae’s bed. &nbsp;When Donna Fae sat down to indulge herself, Eileen grabbed Donna Fae’s ankle. &nbsp;It scared Donna Fae so badly that she screamed and tore her beloved accordion in two. &nbsp;With 5 children in a span of 10 years, living in a 2 bedroom house, there was never a dull moment.

In her high school years Duane Van Kooten caught her eye. &nbsp;Since Duane was out of school when Donna Fae was in her junior and senior year, she and Duane conspired to meet secretly in the Long Island High School boiler room for many a secret rendezvous. &nbsp;That is, until the superintendent of schools discovered their little love nest. &nbsp;Donna Fae commented that he never really liked her much. &nbsp;After she graduated from high school, she went to work in Holdrege, Nebraska, where she lived with her sister, Betty and husband Darrell Talbert. &nbsp;While a lover of animals, Donna Fae hated rodents! &nbsp;When she saw a mouse in the bathroom, she immediately summoned her brother-in-law to come home and save her from the vermin. &nbsp;His reward was for the mouse to crawl up his pant leg. &nbsp;

Shortly after, Donna Fae returned to Phillips County, KS where she would complete her certificate to begin a long career in education. &nbsp;Her first teaching job found her in rural Almena, KS living with a family she had never met before. &nbsp;As per the duties of a teacher in those days, she would get up early, walk the long distance to school school each day. &nbsp;Along with the teaching responsibilities of a multi age group of scholars, she was also responsible for all custodial duties which included building the fire during the cold days in order to keep her students comfortable. &nbsp;The second year of teaching was much more enjoyable. &nbsp;She moved in with a different family with whom she remained in contact throughout their lives.

Duane returned from the Navy and they were married in November of 1949. &nbsp;They would move to Hays, KS in order for Donna Fae to complete her teaching degree. While there she also worked in a small cafe as a waitress. Donna Fae was a loving and devoted wife. Once she threw a surprise birthday party for her husband. It was such a good surprise, he never showed up! &nbsp;Upon completion of her college degree they &nbsp;moved to the farm in Phillips County where she would live her entire married life. &nbsp;While being married she cherished the delicious Sunday lunches at her in laws home. &nbsp;Duane and Donna Fae were members of the Luctor Christian Reformed Church of Long Island, KS.

Donna Fae taught in several school districts; rural schools in both Almena and &nbsp;Long Island KS, Speed, KS, Kensington, KS, &nbsp;Huntley, NE, Republican City, NE, and she ended her career teaching for 14 years in the Northern Valley Schools. &nbsp;She retired in 1994.

Although she and Duane never had children of their own, they loved entertaining their many nieces and nephews on the farm for many years. &nbsp; When Duane passed away on April 1, 2000, Donna Fae lived part time in Alma, NE and part time on the farm while she adjusted to living alone. She would later return to the farm and her beloved animals full time.

Many have fond memories of her exquisite fashion style, others her stellar teaching practices, while others will cherish her zeal for life. &nbsp;Donna Fae was known for her delicious cinnamon rolls and other baked goods. She was not afraid to voice her opinion, find a good time, or create fun wherever she was. &nbsp;Most importantly she will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and her ability to make you feel as if you were the most important person in her life.

She leaves to mourn her best friend and companion, Callie, brother's-in-law Charles Gebhard of rural Phillipsburg and Duane Townsend of Council Bluffs, IA, along with a plethora of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, good neighbors and a host of friends.

Donna Fae went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 4, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. Those waiting to welcome her home include her husband, her parents, siblings Betty and Darrel Talbert, Helen Townsend, Robert and Ila Godfrey, and Grace Eileen Gebhard, along with many other loved relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday April 10, 2024 at the Luctor Christian Reformed Church. &nbsp;The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Long Island Cemetery, Long Island, KS.

Mrs. Van Kooten will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

Lucille Rae Jacobs passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center, KS. She was born May 27, 1936, in Osborne, KS to Leland and Ruby (Walker) Maupin.

Lucy enjoyed gardening, sewing, her and Victor were members of the Jolly Mixer’s Square Dancers, and she had a strong faith in God.

Lucy was married to Warren Curry until his untimely passing. On February 14, 1965, she married Victor Jacobs. This union were parents to two children, Laura and Daniel.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband Victor and many in-laws and other family members.

She is survived by her children Laura Jacobs of Hays, KS and Daniel (Sabrina) of Smith Center, KS; sister Gloria Harmon of Russell, KS; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
