Harold Raymond Taylor passed away on June 9th, 2024, at the age of 94 in the LTC in Hoxie, KS. At the time of his birth, January 16, 1930, his parents, John Orval (known as Orval) and Bernice (Haynes) Taylor lived east of Hoxie in rural Sheridan County, KS. He was the second of seven children, an older sister and five brothers.
Harold attended Holly Creek School and Tasco School before graduating from Sheridan Community High School in 1948. In May of 1949 he married Ina William. They had five children, Ione, David, Ardath, Ronda and Carol.
Harold worked on his dad’s farm until 1951, then worked for Gene Mowry for about a year and worked at Getz IGA in Hoxie for 2 years. In 1954 he went back to work for his dad and in ’57 a partnership was formed (Taylor Ranch) with his dad and brother, Marvin.
In 1968 Harold and Ina opened Taylor’s Place on Highway 24 in Hoxie. Ina passed away of cancer in March of 1976 and “TP” (as it was called by the family) was sold in 1979. Harold married Arvilla (Keith) Bell from Studley in May of 1979 and two more girls joined the family with this union: Lois and Karen. He moved into Arvilla’s home near Sheridan Lake and continued to work at the ranch and help Arvilla with her farming until his retirement. They moved to Hoxie in 2016.
Harold loved his large family, all 89 of them. He loved teasing them, playing games and cards with them, and traveling with them. He enjoyed working on the farm\ranch. Besides work, he enjoyed square dancing with Ina and playing golf in the early years of their marriage. He enjoyed bowling, reading, watching westerns, any sport, especially Hoxie High School sports, putting puzzles together and playing cards. As a young man Harold enjoyed paint by number. He won several bowling trophies and held the record high score for many years at Hoxie Lanes and also won a few golf trophies.
He was a member of the Methodist Church in Hoxie most of his life and was a generous man and supported several local charities.
Harold was preceded in death by both wives; son-in-law, Guy Williamson; grandson, Brian Schulte; great-granddaughter, Mia Schulte; his parents; sisters, Ellen May and Ruby Smith; brothers, Marvin, Dale and Larry; brother-in-law, Robert Smith; and sister-in-law, Kathleen.
He leaves to mourn his passing, six daughters and one son; Ione Williamson of St. Augustine, FL; David Taylor (Sheryl); Ronda Johnson (Roger); Carol Farber (Ron); Karen Lindenman (Robert), all of Hoxie; Ardath Beringer (Mark); and Lois Schulte (Charles), all of Bethune, CO. Grand-children Taylor Williamson (Catherine) of St. Augustine, FL; Amy Taylor of Lincoln NE; Aaron Taylor (Christy) of Grainfield, KS; Jessica Lovelady of Springfield, Mo; Curt Beringer (Christina) of Colby; Heath Johnson (Casey); Rachel Farber of Hoxie; Chad Johnson (Jennifer) of Spokane, WA; Shawn Schulte (Tawnya) of Vona, CO; Keith Schulte; Ryan Schulte (Melinda) of Flagler, CO; Angie Johnson (Andy) of Stratton, CO; Alexis Schulte (Greyson) of Gulf Port, MS; Kimberlie Schulte of Hays; Justin Farber (Jessica) of Lexington, NE; Brady Lindenman of Independence, MO; and Mitchell Lindenman of Quinter; 44 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, brothers Ralfe (Lorena) of Payson, AZ; Keith (Paula) of Stilwell, KS; sisters-in-law Shirley of Grand Junction, CO: Brenda of Overland Park, KS; and Helen William of Hoxie and many other family members and friends.
