William Francis Edward Dean was born on April 26, 1931, the only child of William T. Dean and Bernice Miller Dean in Colby, Ks. He passed away on March 19, 2024 in Norton, Kansas at the age of 92. At the age of 18 months, he went to live with Wendell and Daisy Sites and was raised by them as their own.

Ed, as he was known to all of his friends and family, started working at a young age in the grocery business as a carry-out boy. He spent his entire life working, managing, and owning grocery stores. He married Joyce Harper on May 4, 1952 in Colby, Kansas. They had three daughters, Valerie, Vickie, and Velda. Ed and Joyce celebrated 71 years of marriage last May before Joyce passed away in September.

Ed had an accident at the age of 30 and lost his right hand in a meat grinder. With a lot of grit and hard work he overcame his handicap and continued to support his family and provided a wonderful and loving life for them. He loved working in the grocery business and had a strong work ethic that he taught to his family. Ed took much pride in having a clean grocery store, and you could always find him at the produce counter cleaning his produce and peeling onions. And if he had any spare time, you would find him dusting and facing the shelves. He wasn’t one to sit around and do nothing, he always had something going. Ed took such pride in his grandkids and great grandkids and loved attending their activities and supporting them. He was an avid KU Jayhawks fan. When there was a KU basketball game on, you could rest assured that he was listening or watching it. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce, and sisters and brothers-in-law. John Kyle Edmundson was 95 years old when he passed away on March 30, 2024 in his home at Care Haven Homes of Overland Park, Kansas. He was born on June 30, 1928 in Dighton, Kansas, to Harve S. “Jack” Edmundson and Viola Marie (Smith) Edmundson. John and his family moved to Manhattan, Kansas during the dust bowl days where his father found construction work at Fort Riley. He fondly remembers the elementary years from first - seventh grades. He returned to Dighton for eighth grade and graduated from Dighton High School. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Delores, who would become his cherished wife for 57 years. They enjoyed dancing, traveling with family, and entertaining around the pool. They especially loved their time with grandchildren. John provided compassionate care to Delores during her cancer journey.

In the 1960s, John, his wife, and three children relocated to Wichita, Kansas, where they settled in their forever home. It was there that John spent the majority of his life, immersed in his career, hobbies, and the warmth of family life. In his later years, John moved to the Kansas City area, where he spent his final chapter.

Whether capturing the beauty of nature, candid family moments, or the myriad of feathered visitors to his yard, John's exceptional photographs reflected his passion for life and his eye for beauty. His most favorite photo subjects were babies and young children then flowers, butterflies, and animals.

He delighted in sharing his love for punny jokes with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating cherished memories filled with laughter and joy. What do you call a cow with no legs? His spunky sense of humor made him a favorite of his caregivers.

John documented his work history of 51 years in the printing business. He worked with local newspapers and printing companies with roles changing from linotype operator to press operator to cutting machine operator. His keen eye for detail and knack for spotting misspellings served him well until his retirement. John prided himself in being a hard worker and documented that he only missed 3 ½ days from work for illness.

His love of music and radio was also a significant part of his life. John had a large music collection, and particularly enjoyed Big Band music, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, and country tunes. John was a ham radio operator (KB0WAK) and enthusiast, connecting with people from over 100 countries and 6 continents.

John will be remembered for his easy-going nature, playful spirit, and unwavering love for his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, A. Delores (McCoy) Edmundson, his son, John Douglas “Doug” Edmundson, his parents, Jack and Marie Edmundson, brothers, William S. “Bill” James, Robin K. “Bob” James, James S. “Jamie” Edmundson, Max Edmundson, his granddaughter, Cinnamon Louise Smith, and son-in-law, Kelley Patton.

He is survived by his daughters, Deena Raye Smith (Shadrach Smith), Debra Sue Patton, daughter-in-law, Jan Bezinque (John), grandchildren, Angela Spurgeon (Danny Spurgeon), Jesse Edmundson (Chalimar), Jasmin Moore (W. Todd Moore), Amanda Talbott, Keesha Kitterman (Shane), great-grandchildren, Cole Henry, Ezekiel Moore, Xavier Moore, Sage Edmundson, Maddy Jo Edmundson, Christian Simmons, Braylon Kitterman, Landon Kitterman, great-great granddaughter Oaklynn Henry and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is deeply grateful for the devoted care provided by his caregivers. His daughters, Deena and Debra, ensured he received the comfort, love, and support he needed, especially during his final years. The loving care provided by Jan Bezinque and Jill Cartwright allowed John to remain safely in his home through the COVID-19 pandemic. The family of caregivers who bonded with him at Care Haven Homes were also a blessing.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Dighton First Christian Church with Rev. Jennifer Bradford officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery. She married B.D (Dink) Carlton on February 19, 1950, in Lakin, Kansas. He died July 5, 2021She is survived by many nieces &amp; nephews, special couple- Tom &amp; Rebekah Chappel. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Betty Horn, a brother, Robert Dean Williams and a nephew, Robert Patrick William.

Manuel Robles-Grajeda, age 72, of Hays, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024, at Hays Medical Center. He was born on September 1, 1951, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to the late Andres Robles and Guadalupe Grajeda. On December 3, 1972, he married the love of his life, Hermelinda Trevizo, in Chihuahua. Together, they embarked on a journey, moving to the United States in the early 1990s and eventually settling in Hays, Kansas, 13 years ago.

Manuel was a dedicated farmer who took great pride in his work. However, his true passion lay in his family. He was a loving husband to Hermelinda, a devoted father to his children, and a doting grandfather to his 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Manuel's playful spirit and sense of humor endeared him to his family and friends. He was known for his fondness for pickled jalapeños, which he enjoyed daily, his love of games, particularly pool, dominos, and poker, and his jovial nature brightened many gatherings.

He is survived by his wife, Hermelinda, of Hays; his children, Manuel Robles of Burlington, Colorado, Dora Robles and husband Javier Arzaga of Stratton, Colorado, Alejandro Robles and wife Patricia Cano of Hays, Hilda Robles and husband Jesus Bustillos of Hays, and Ivan Robles and wife Johnae Blackmon of Hays. Manuel is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, and a brother and sister in Mexico.

Manuel was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Maria Robles; and his seven siblings.

Funeral services to celebrate Manuel's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hays. Following the service, Manuel will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.

Larned – Carlotta M. Chacon Brenner, 87, passed away March 30, 2024 at Pleasant Hills Nursing Home, Hutchinson, Kansas.

She was born November 4, 1936 at Kinsley, the daughter of Manuel and Pauline Rey Chacon.

A longtime area resident, she was a hospital nurse aid. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, PVCH Auxiliary, and Homemaker EHU, all of Larned. She was a very special aunt to her nieces and nephews. Carlotta was a faithful supporter of the blood mobile and anything benefiting the “US of A”.

On November 3, 2001 she married Dr. W.R. Brenner at Larned; he preceded her in death July 19, 2013.

Survivors include: step son, William Brenner Jr., Williamsburg, Virginia; three step daughters, Barbara Polston, Kansas City, Missouri, Anne Armstrong, Fairbanks, Alaska, Katherine Brenner, Eugene Oregon; brother, Martin (Kathleen) Chacon, Hutchinson, Kansas; two sisters, Rosalie Castaneda, Lewis, Margaret (Joe) Garcia, Larned; eleven step grandchildren, ten step great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; two step sons, Robert Brenner and Stephen Brenner; four brothers, Valentine Chacon, Florentino Chacon, Louis Chacon and Juan Manuel Chacon; and a sister, Anne Molina.

Funeral mass will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday April 4, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned with Father Warren Stecklein presiding. &nbsp;Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary, with a rosary and vigil service at 7:00 p.m. &nbsp;Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas.

She was a mother so very rare, content in her home and always there.

On earth she toiled, in Heaven she rests, God bless you Mother, you were one of the best.

Helen Frances (Braun) Werth, 90, Hays, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024, at Hays Medical Center with her family by her side.

She was born on the family farm west of Victoria on June 25, 1933, to Frank J. and Helen (Brungardt) Braun. As a young child, she moved to the Braun Dairy Farm north of Hays, and enjoyed working along-side her family and participating in 4-H. She was a very proud 1951 alumna of Girls Catholic High School and remained lifelong friends with her classmates. After graduating Helen worked as a secretary at Jefferson West until marriage.

Helen married the love of her life Clifford James Werth at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays on October 6, 1952. They shared 67 wonderful years of marriage and were proud of the life they built together. Early in their marriage they resided in Great Bend, KS and then lived in Russell, KS, where she worked for the Avon Company.

She and Cliff moved backed to Hays and in 1968 established Hays Car and Truck Alignment. Never wanting to retire, she worked at “the shop” until the age of 78. Helen never turned down an opportunity to have some fun; she was proud to attend her children and grandchildren’s events, and she cherished the time she had watching them grow up. Helen was gracious in all ways and loved her family, friends, and her God. Many a day was spent in the kitchen preparing the best meals and always extending invitations to come, eat and visit. Her favorite hobbies included: cooking, traveling, retail therapy (never a bad day of shopping), raising flower gardens, attending cabin get-togethers, and playing the one-arm bandits with Cliff. As fun as those hobbies were though, Helen always said, “She was happiest at home with her family.”

In her last weeks at Via Christi, she lapsed back in time and dreamed about going out-of-town shopping, she said witty things to her children and nurses, and she had an amazing knack for knowing what her family was talking about. We always knew Mom had eyes in the back of her head; little did we know she had such extraordinary hearing for someone without her hearing aids.

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and a lifetime member of the Daughters of Isabella. Helen (Bape) was an eternal optimist who always looked for the goodness in life, and she trusted in God for His guidance every day. Heaven truly gained a beautiful spirit.

Helen is survived by six children, fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law.

Agra resident, Jimmy Ducharm, passed away March 20, 2024 at the Smith County Hospital in Smith Center at the age of 69. He was born January 26, 1955 in Smith Center, the son of Alfred &amp; Aleta (Gower) Ducharm.

Survivors include his brother Kerry of Costa Mesa, CA; his sister Gaylene Ducharm of Mission Viejo, CA&amp; his aunts, Waneta Gower &amp; Anita Christensen of Agra.

Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 5 at 2:30 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jay Brandon officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Burial will follow in the West Cedar Cemetery.

Marcia Faye Dinkel, 79, passed away March 14, 2024 at the Sheridan County Health Complex LTC, in Hoxie, Kansas. Marcia was born December 5, 1945 in Holdrege, Nebraska to Roscoe and Ilene (Gentry) Brown. The family resided in Morland, Kansas where Marcia graduated from Morland High School in 1964. Marcia and David Dinkel were united in marriage January 14, 1968 and were blessed with three children: son Tracy, and daughters Jodi and Valerie.

During her lifetime, Marcia worked at various jobs including waitressing, grocery store cashier and her final employment, as a dietary aide at Graham County Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and crossword puzzles.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, David. Survivors include son, Tracy (Chanda) Dinkel, of Hill City; daughters Jodi (Travis Riffle, of Uhrichsville, Ohio; Valerie (Luke) Polson, of Marysville and a brother Robert (Holly) Brown, of Salina; grandchildren: Bret, Nick (Rachel), Kaylen, Haley, and Madison, and four great grandchildren: Colt, Remi, David, and Leo.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

It is with profound sorrow that we announce that Ray Lonnie Terry passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2024, after a very brief illness.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Ray was born on October 25, 1933, in a small country home nestled in Glen Elder, Kansas. When he graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1951, he answered the call of duty, enlisting in the United States Air Force. Ray was first stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas where he embarked on a path of service and dedication. It was during this time that he married his beloved high school sweetheart, Loretta, affectionately known by him as Lettie. While stationed at Lackland, the couple welcomed their first child, Michael Ray.

&nbsp; &nbsp;After Ray’s second assignment in Okinawa, Japan, his journey with the Air Force led him to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. It was during this time that their second child, Pamela Kay, joined the family. Subsequently, they returned to Wichita, Kansas, where Ray served at McConnell Air Force Base and welcomed their youngest child, DeAnne Marie. In 1962, the family relocated to Shreveport, Louisiana, where Ray was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base for several years.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Among all his assignments, the most memorable chapter of Ray’s career unfolded when his family was assigned to Ankara, Turkey. Amidst the enchanting backdrop of the Middle East, the Terry family embarked on extraordinary adventures that created lifelong memories. After their first year there, and as summer break beckoned, the Terry family embarked on a memorable journey across Europe and the Middle East. Ray cleverly converted a VW Van into a mobile home and the family slept in a tiny 5-person tent and quite often right next to ancient ruins. They visited many countries including Switzerland, Austria, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Germany, Israel (Bethlehem and Jerusalem), Syria, Jordan, Italy, and Greece. These cherished memories stand as a testament to Ray's adventurous spirit and the love that painted their travels.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Upon their return to the United States in 1967, the Terry family found a sense of stability at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, where they planted roots until Ray's retirement in 1972. Following his service in the Air Force, Ray embarked on a new chapter, spending five years at Anheuser-Busch until all his children graduated from high school.

&nbsp; &nbsp;In 1977, Ray and his family returned to their hometown of Glen Elder, KS, where they took over the family farm. Alongside farming duties, Ray took on a role at Farmway Co-Op, delivering fuel to local farmers for a decade until he embraced retirement in its truest sense. In 2003, they were finally able to build their dream home in the town of Glen Elder. Retirement marked the dawn of a new passion for Ray as he delved into genealogy. Serving as President of the Cawker City Genealogy Society, he poured his heart into unraveling family histories, meticulously crafting family trees for countless families in Mitchell and Jewell County, Kansas. Ray found immense joy in helping visitors reconnect with their lineage by guiding them through the cemeteries to unearth the stories of their lost ancestors.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Preceding Ray in death was his wife of 65 years, Loretta Gail Terry (Loomis), son Michael Ray Terry, brother Robert Terry, sister-in-law Dee Terry, sister-in-law Marie Terry, sister-in-law Carol Stover, and brother-in-law, John Stover.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Ray is survived by his children, Pamela Kay Zell, DeAnne Marie Fiorini (Peter), and his daughter-in-law Mona Terry; his 8 grandchildren, Ryan Zell (Kaki), Geremie Fiorini (Allisia), Brandon Zell (Nicole), Alexis Hokenstrom (Sean), Jessica Conrow (Chris), and Morgan Terry; 8 great grandchildren, Hudson, Gianna, Rocco, Blake, Violet, Krew, Archer, and Luca; Two brothers, Roger Terry (Lynda), and Ron Terry.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Ray was a bright spark in this world and his absence leaves a deep ache in our hearts. He’ll be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know his warmth and kindness.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Funeral services will be at 10 AM Friday, March 29 at the Glen Elder Christian Church. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM, with family present from 5-6 PM Thursday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Ray found immense joy in helping visitors reconnect with their lineage by guiding them through the cemeteries to unearth the stories of their lost ancestors.&nbsp; &nbsp;Preceding Ray in death was his wife of 65 years, Loretta Gail Terry (Loomis), son Michael Ray Terry, brother Robert Terry, sister-in-law Dee Terry, sister-in-law Marie Terry, sister-in-law Carol Stover, and brother-in-law, John Stover.&nbsp; &nbsp;Ray is survived by his children, Pamela Kay Zell, DeAnne Marie Fiorini (Peter), and his daughter-in-law Mona Terry; his 8 grandchildren, Ryan Zell (Kaki), Geremie Fiorini (Allisia), Brandon Zell (Nicole), Alexis Hokenstrom (Sean), Jessica Conrow (Chris), and Morgan Terry; 8 great grandchildren, Hudson, Gianna, Rocco, Blake, Violet, Krew, Archer, and Luca; Two brothers, Roger Terry (Lynda), and Ron Terry.&nbsp; &nbsp;Ray was a bright spark in this world and his absence leaves a deep ache in our hearts. He’ll be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know his warmth and kindness.&nbsp;&nbsp; Funeral services will be at 10 AM Friday, March 29 at the Glen Elder Christian Church. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM, with family present from 5-6 PM Thursday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Eileen Joanne (Helvey) Gosser, 80, of WaKeeney, KS, passed away peacefully at Hays Medical Center on March 30, 2024, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born to Clifton Theodore and Lola Irene (Rounkles) Helvey on January 26, 1944, in rural Osborne County, KS, Eileen’s life was a testament of love and dedication to her Savior and family. She attended school in Cawker City, and she graduated from Cawker City High School in 1962. Soon after graduation, she went to work as a switchboard operator for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

On June 14, 1966, Eileen met the love of her life, Arnold Gosser, while working with Alice Stramel at the Telephone Company. Alice had mentioned to Eileen that she would like her to meet her little brother. It only took 3 dates for Arnold to tell Eileen that there “was something she needed to be thinking about because he was going to be asking her something one of these days.” Semi-long story short, they were married on October 8, 1966, at the Cawker City Methodist Church. Only 3 months, 3 weeks, and 1 day after they met. To this union, the Lord added the joy of three children: Kevin Arnold, Shelli Renee, and Sara Joanne. They enjoyed 36 years together before Arnold’s passing in 2002.

Eileen had a generous heart and the God-given gift of caring for others. From bringing a van load of friends to church every Sunday, being Grandma ‘I-een’ to kids at the daycare and making sure everyone was fed no matter the occasion; boy could she feed her family! Lending a helping hand and being a prayer warrior came naturally. She made it known that the most important decision you can ever make is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Eileen’s life was a reflection of His love.

It was her pride and joy to be with her grandchildren, and she was a consistent supporter at their events. Each grandchild was nicknamed "George,” with a number following to represent the order in which they were born. During their younger years, grandma’s house was a “grand" central station before and after school. Her staple snack was popcorn and apples, and her way of making sure we were all okay was to have us come and check on her. At every family holiday, she made it a point to bring each grandchild their favorite treat or dessert (Charlie, we knew you were the favorite with your Caramel Apple Salad). She was always proud to share stories and pictures with her friends! Her heart continued to expand as great-grandchildren were born, and she was overjoyed to be called “Nana Great." One of her most treasured gifts was a crocheted blanket for each new addition to her family.

Eileen enjoyed playing card and dice games, visiting with friends, and cheering on the KU Jayhawks. She even dabbled in skydiving.

Eileen’s outlook toward her recent cancer diagnosis was that it was a win-win situation. If the Lord healed her, she would get to tell everyone how He healed her. If He called her home, she’d get to be with Jesus. Well, now she is! She is with her Jesus, her Arnold, and her Sara. She will be lovingly remembered as a Godly woman who gave all honor, glory, and praise to her Lord.

A funeral service to celebrate Eileen’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. CST at the WaKeeney Church of God. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. CST. at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney, KS.

Great Bend – Carolyn Ann Musil, 76, passed away March 28, 2024 at the University of Kansas Health Systems Great Bend Campus. She was born April 21, 1947 in Beloit, KS the daughter of Walter Henry and Wilma Marguerite Hobbie Reich. She was a secretary at Kansas State University and Osborne County Extension Service, and later, a farm wife and homemaker.

Carolyn graduated from Downs High School in 1965 and was a recipient of the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow award. On May 3, 1980 she married Elmer Lee Musil at First Lutheran Church, Manhattan, KS and they subsequently moved to Musil farm at Burdett, KS in Pawnee County. From 1981-1986 she was a member of Pawnee County Extension Council, serving as chairperson of the executive board from 1984-1986; she also represented southwest Kansas on the State Extension Advisory Council, serving from 1984-1988. In 1989 she received recognition for her service on behalf of the Pawnee County Extension Council.

Carolyn was a past member of Burdett United Methodist Church, serving as their business manager for 26 years and participated in the annual quilt tying mission day. She also served as a Dodge City District UMW Officer. &nbsp;Carolyn served on the Executive Council at Burdett Senior Center and was a Pawnee County 4-H Leader.

In 2016, Carolyn and Lee moved to Great Bend, KS. Carolyn then transferred membership to Trinity United Methodist Church. She was involved in Trinity United Methodist Women, and Lydia’s Circle.

Survivors include: a son, Richard Andrew Musil, Great Bend; &nbsp;two grandchildren, Connor and Briezlyn Musil, Great Bend and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lee.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Daniel Vandenburg presiding. Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at Brown’s Grove Cemetery, Burdett. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born March 10, 1938, on the family farm at Munjor, Kansas to Melchoir and Cecelia (Unrein) Gabel.&nbsp; She was a 1956 graduate of Hays High School.&nbsp; She married Julian R. Huser on August 25, 1956, in Munjor. &nbsp;&nbsp;He preceded her in death on October 15, 2016

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Norma Jean was a homemaker and mother. She was a graduate of Purdue University in Dietary Management.&nbsp; She cooked at St. Joseph Friary, Hays, Kansas for 12 years, and a &nbsp;cook at Fort Hays State University at the Memorial Union and head baker at McMindes Hall. She was a volunteer and caregiver for Jill’s Helping Hands.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and St Boniface Christian Mothers both of Vincent, Kansas. &nbsp;&nbsp;A member of Saint Fidelis Daughters of Isabella and V.F.W. Auxiliary Post # 1751, both of Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Norma was a devout Catholic and will be remembered for her love of the rosary and commitment to her faith.&nbsp; She loved to fish, play pinocle, host family card parties and gardening.&nbsp; She taught sewing for 4-H. She was very well known for her generosity of sharing with others her homemade bierocks, crock pickles and blackberry kuchen.&nbsp; She was proud of the home she built with Julian and most proud of the family they raised.&nbsp; Once Julian had passed, her cat, Boots and her dog, Pretty Girl kept her company on the farm.&nbsp; In August of 2021, she moved to Hays and continued knitting and baking. She touched the lives of many.

She was very well known for her generosity of sharing with others her homemade bierocks, crock pickles and blackberry kuchen.&nbsp; She was proud of the home she built with Julian and most proud of the family they raised.&nbsp; Once Julian had passed, her cat, Boots and her dog, Pretty Girl kept her company on the farm.&nbsp; In August of 2021, she moved to Hays and continued knitting and baking. Katherine Urban – age 92 of Hays, Kansas passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the Wheat State Manor Nursing Home in Whitewater, Kansas.

She was born on June 11, 1931, in Plainville, Kansas to Michael and Dora (Fischer) Dechant. &nbsp;She married Daniel F. Urban on June 3, 1953, at Pfeifer, Kansas. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on February 27, 1994.

Katherine was a homemaker, was raised on a farm north of Plainville, Kansas and attended school in Plainville. &nbsp;After their marriage Katherine and Daniel moved to Great Bend, Kansas. &nbsp;Upon Daniel’s death in 1994, Katherine then moved to Hays. &nbsp;While living in Great Bend, she was a member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She was a member of Saint Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild, the Sunflower Polka Club, and a Hays Bowling League. &nbsp;She enjoyed going to polka dances, watching KU basketball, cooking, baking, and playing cards.

Katherine is survived by her children, Gloria Michel and husband, Ed, Derby, KS; Steve Urban and wife, Nancy, Hays, KS; Janice Witt and husband, Bruce, Maize, KS; her grandchildren, Amanda Devlin (Tim); Nathan Michel; Rebecca Urban; Adam Urban; Nicole Hammerschmidt (Ryan); Sarah Witt; Madison Witt; her great grandchildren, Sam and Henry; Adley and Piper; with one on the way; her sister-in-law, Firma Dechant, Wichita, KS.

Simone M. Shoemaker died on March 28, 2024, at 97 years of age. Simone Marie Thérèse Victorine Noël was born on January 21, 1927, in Bleret, Belgium to parents Gérard Hubert Alfred Noël and Rosalie Marie Thérèse Victorine Servais. She married United States soldier Alfred B. Shoemaker on February 14, 1946, in Bleret, Belgium. Simone immigrated to the United States in 1946 and became a naturalized citizen on February 6, 1956.

Simone and her husband co-owned and operated the Hays City Bakery in Hays, Kansas. She was an avid traveler, gardener, and seamstress, and was known for her beautifully decorated cakes and pastries.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and granddaughter, Erica Bollig.

Simone is survived by her children, Marcel and Megan Shoemaker, Suzanne and Mick Bollig, and Alan Shoemaker. Simone had 13 grandchildren: Noël and Charlie Servais-Leach, Michael and Maxine Ali Bollig, Jonathan and Carissa Bollig, Dylan and Sarah Shoemaker, Elizabeth Quenzer, Brianna and Travis Brandt, Brendan and Kennya Arnold, Lindsey Middleton, Aaron and Sarah Shoemaker, Brandy Clifford, Stephanie and Brock Holzmeister, and Brian Shoemaker. She has 32 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Mary Treasa (Brown) Good, beloved sister, devoted daughter, and cherished friend, passed away on March 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 30, 1967, to Veronica (Ashbaugh) Brown and Donald Bertrum Brown.

Mary was a compassionate soul whose presence left a lasting impact on all those she encountered. With a fervent love for creativity, she found solace in crocheting exquisite designs and crafting intricate diamond art pieces. Her eyes radiated with joy during lively card games with loved ones, infusing every moment with laughter and warmth. Tending to her beloved flowers brought her immense joy, making it one of her cherished pastimes.

Mary found profound happiness in the company of her loved ones, treasuring every moment spent together. Whether it was exchanging stories over a cup of tea, enjoying serene moments by the lake, or simply relishing each other's presence, she held these times dear with her family and friends. Her affection extended to her animals, whom she regarded not merely as pets but as cherished companions, bringing her solace and delight.

Mary had a favorite song that always brought a smile to her face, "Purple Hippopotamus for Christmas." The playful melody captured her playful spirit and brought back cherished memories of holidays spent with loved ones.

Wayne Wallace Wilson,&nbsp;79, of Salina Ks, passed away on March 23, 2024.&nbsp;Wayne was born on&nbsp;August 1,&nbsp;1944&nbsp;at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita Ks. to&nbsp;Elmer Edward &amp; Roberta Emily (Courton) Wilson.

Wayne&nbsp;attended school &amp;&nbsp;graduated from Rosalia&nbsp;High School in 1962. Wayne was very active with the Flint Hills 4-H club of Rosalia. Wayne won many Awards with livestock, including 2 trips to the 4-H Nationals in Chicago. Wayne was also asked if he would like to join the peace core due to all his achievements in 4-H, Wayne always felt that was one of his highest honors.

Wayne then married Judy Ann Ellis of El Dorado&nbsp;on&nbsp;March 16, 1967.&nbsp; The loving couple enjoyed 34yrs together before Judy passed away on&nbsp;September 15, 2001.&nbsp;Wayne remarried November 29, 2003 to Mary Eshbaugh. They divorced in&nbsp;2021.

Wayne served in Law enforcement for 35+ years, then 5 years in retail. Wayne started in the&nbsp;El Dorado, Butler Co. Sheriff’s&nbsp;Office&nbsp;then served as&nbsp;Marshall&nbsp;of Victoria, Ks. Wayne was&nbsp;Undersheriff of&nbsp;Ellis County in Hays Ks, then&nbsp;Fraud Investigator in Kansas City. Wayne worked at Ardan’s &amp; Wilson’s Service Merchandise in Wichita Ks. Next was Beloit, Mitchell Co. Police &amp; Sheriff &amp; then on too&nbsp;Hill City,&nbsp;Graham Co. Retiring as Chief of Police due to&nbsp;an&nbsp;on the job injury&nbsp;on October 31, 1994&nbsp;resulting in partial leg amputation&nbsp;in 1995.&nbsp;

Then after retiring from Law enforcement Wayne worked with&nbsp;Mac Air office under John Britting &amp; then with&nbsp;RCIL as a counselor for disabled people.

Wayne also joined a group&nbsp;called (ADAPT)&nbsp;who are&nbsp;activists putting their bodies on the line for the civil rights of people with&nbsp;disabilities.&nbsp;With this group Wayne traveled to several cities ranging from Washington DC to California.&nbsp;Wayne also&nbsp;worked for the Hyatt in Wichita Ks. for 10yrs as a shuttle driver where he won the (Ambassador for Wichita Award) given by the (Go Wichita Convention Bureau). Wayne was also awarded Employee of The Year in 2012 with a trip to Hawaii. Shortly after Wayne retired for good and focused on his woodworking projects, crafts,&nbsp;&amp; traveling.

Wayne&nbsp;was definitely an animal lover his whole life with pets and livestock, Wayne&nbsp;&amp; Judy raised Yorkshire Terriers in the 70’s &amp; early 80’s &amp; also Pomeranians in the later 80”s. Wayne enjoyed traveling, fishing , golf, crafts , photography , and all sorts of auto racing. He especially enjoyed good conversation with all of his friend’s family &amp; coworkers. Wayne didn’t know a stranger and was always willing to listen and talk to anyone. Wayne W. Wilson was a very dedicated family man and loved his family very much. Most of his favorite memories &amp; stories was those of his&nbsp;family but a big portion of his memories and stories came from working as Undersheriff in Ellis Co. That was some of Wayne’s favorite times.&nbsp; KLETC instructors at that time would point out to New Recruits that the Ellis Co. Sheriff’s Office was the real deal on how they handle things up there, true professionals! Wayne’s reply to hearing this was

(We are the best &amp; I’m glad the KLETC notice’s and hearing how good we are).

Wayne’s siblings&nbsp;are&nbsp;Joanne Marie (Wilson) Mendenhall&nbsp;&amp; Brother In Law Duane Mendenhall ( deceased. ) His Son&nbsp;Michael Shane Wilson&nbsp;&amp; Daughter-in Law &nbsp;Stacy Lowe. His&nbsp;foster&nbsp;Daughter&nbsp;was&nbsp;Wanda Gibson,&nbsp;stepson Stacey Alan &amp; step daughter Theresa Wilson.

Grandchildren&nbsp;are&nbsp;Natalie Wilson, Dalton Sawyers, Justin Noel,&nbsp;Saxon Noel, Arielle Alan, Mercedes Light, Sheila Dragoo, Braeden Alan, Danielle Alan.

Great Grandchildren&nbsp;are&nbsp;Nathan Noel &amp; Savanna Noel.

Wayne had been diagnosed with cancer in 2021 &amp; moved to Salina in 2022 to live with his son Michael Shane Wilson and his fiancée Stacy Lowe. Even with treatments the cancer had still spread rather quickly from 2021 to 2024.

Wayne will be honored by a graveside service on Saturday April 6, 2024 at (time) at Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita Kansas.

Shortly after Wayne retired for good and focused on his woodworking projects, crafts,&nbsp;&amp; traveling.Wayne&nbsp;was definitely an animal lover his whole life with pets and livestock, Wayne&nbsp;&amp; Judy raised Yorkshire Terriers in the 70’s &amp; early 80’s &amp; also Pomeranians in the later 80”s. Wayne enjoyed traveling, fishing , golf, crafts , photography , and all sorts of auto racing. He especially enjoyed good conversation with all of his friend’s family &amp; coworkers. Wayne didn’t know a stranger and was always willing to listen and talk to anyone. Wayne W. Wilson was a very dedicated family man and loved his family very much. Most of his favorite memories &amp; stories was those of his&nbsp;family but a big portion of his memories and stories came from working as Undersheriff in Ellis Co. That was some of Wayne’s favorite times.&nbsp; KLETC instructors at that time would point out to New Recruits that the Ellis Co. Sheriff’s Office was the real deal on how they handle things up there, true professionals! Wayne’s reply to hearing this was(We are the best &amp; I’m glad the KLETC notice’s and hearing how good we are).Wayne’s siblings&nbsp;are&nbsp;Joanne Marie (Wilson) Mendenhall&nbsp;&amp; Brother In Law Duane Mendenhall ( deceased. ) His Son&nbsp;Michael Shane Wilson&nbsp;&amp; Daughter-in Law &nbsp;Stacy Lowe. His&nbsp;foster&nbsp;Daughter&nbsp;was&nbsp;Wanda Gibson,&nbsp;stepson Stacey Alan &amp; step daughter Theresa Wilson.Grandchildren&nbsp;are&nbsp;Natalie Wilson, Dalton Sawyers, Justin Noel,&nbsp;Saxon Noel, Arielle Alan, Mercedes Light, Sheila Dragoo, Braeden Alan, Danielle Alan.Great Grandchildren&nbsp;are&nbsp;Nathan Noel &amp; Savanna Noel.Niece’s &amp; Nephew’s include Alan &amp; Vickie Mendenhall &amp; Son Jeremy Mendenhall, and daughter Lillianna &amp; Rosalina Mendenhall / Kathy &amp; Denise Blackman, Tasha Beck, Andrew Beck &amp; Tyson BlackmanWayne had been diagnosed with cancer in 2021 &amp; moved to Salina in 2022 to live with his son Michael Shane Wilson and his fiancée Stacy Lowe. Even with treatments the cancer had still spread rather quickly from 2021 to 2024.Wayne will be honored by a graveside service on Saturday April 6, 2024 at (time) at Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita Kansas.Memorials can be made in honor of Wayne W. Leona D. Jones, 83, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Wichita, Kansas.

Leona was born March 11, 1941, in Miami, Oklahoma, the daughter of Leon and Dolors (Gazaway) Harrington. She was a resident of Rush County, Kansas, for 25 years, moving from Stafford County, Kansas. A 1959 graduate of Commerce High School, Commerce, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Commerce, Oklahoma.

On May 25, 1960, she married Gerald F. Jones in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home for many years in Topeka. He preceded her in death December 12, 1981.

Survivors include: her daughter, Valerie Harrington, and her husband, Brian Wright, Hays, Kansas; her granddaughter, Jessie Lee Harrington Wright, Hays, Kansas; and one sister, Margaret Olds, Miami, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Joseph Harrington.
