Dorothy Irene Burns, 76, passed away on June 12, 2024, in Hays, Kansas. Born on June 1, 1948, in Bowman, North Dakota; the daughter of Wallace and Elizabeth Mauer.
Dorothy relocated to Lakin, where her and Frank Burns married and established roots. In 1970, Frankie D Burns Sr. was born. Having finished her schooling in Cosmetology she opened a beauty shop which she ran for many years. Dorothy then transitioned her compassionate nature into healthcare. In this position, she ensured that everyone she came in contact with received not only exemplary care but also the respect they deserved until her retirement.
Dorothy enjoyed bowling, and acquired many state championships doing so, traveling, camping, and spending time with her family and loved ones. After her retirement Dorothy could be found taking in different activities at the local Senior Center and volunteering at the Budget Shop. She enjoyed being a devoted Mother, a Devoted Grandmother, and a Devoted Great Grandmother.
Dorothy is survived by her son- Frankie D. Burns Sr., grandsons- Tyler Crain, Frankie D. Burns Jr., Shae Burns, great-granddaughters- Brekalyn Burns, Paisley Burns, sister-Betty Kopp, brother- Bobby Mauer, and her dog- Tigger
Visitation will take place Monday June 17, 2024 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm at Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin, Kansas. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday June 18, 2024 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Tran officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakin Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kearny County Senior Center or The Budget Shop both in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
