Lee Eugene Johnson, lifetime community man passed away peacefully on June 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife Donna and adored daughters Misti and Kelli. Born February 27, 1948, in Smith County, KS. Lee was an only child to Caroline Klinzman and Albert “Shorty” Johnson. Lee devoted his life to his family, friends, and the community. Lee adored his grandchildren Kipton Lee Matthew and Zari. His “brother” of over 65 years Jerry Knight was always by his side. His mornings were spent at the corner drinking coffee and telling stories, some of them were true!

Lee loved the outdoors and anything hunting or fishing related. An avid sports fan, he proudly served his community as a coach, mentor, and umpire- Lee always made the calls! His passion as a city of Kensington employee for 26 years was displayed in his love for the city pool and Sr Center. Lee was always giving back to his community delivering meals and maintaining the wells. He hated cold weather, but lovingly hung Christmas lights for the City and Donna faithfully every year! An avid card player, Lee never passed up a chance to play cards. His spirit was endless and while a man of few words (sometimes), he was always available to pull a grain truck out of the ditch or step-up during tragedy.

Lee faithfully served the Kansas National Guard during the Vietnam era.

Lee is survived by his wife Donna of Kensington, daughters Misti Johnson Olthoff (Matt) and son Kipton Lee Matthew of St. George, KS and daughter Kelli Johnson and daughter Zari Prioleau of Wichita, KS.

Kaye married Tracy Daves on August 21, 1960. Although she worked at J&amp;J Oilfield Services, Boaldin Appliance and DJ’s Variety Store, being a mom and wife was what she took the most pride in. She loved all animals and fed everything in the neighborhood including squirrels, skunks, birds, cats and dogs. She loved her time spent with friends and family, eating, shopping and playing Bridge. Kaye was a member of Hillcrest Southern Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Allen Daves of Durant, Oklahoma; daughters, Lisa Tucker and husband, John, of Elkhart, and Lana Daves of Elkhart; grandchildren, Tiffani Tucker Dudley and husband, David, Kayla Daves Langston and husband, Chris Greenhaw, Jarrod Tucker and wife, Linell, Peyton Daves and wife, Patience, Makenna Daves and Megan Daves; great-grandchildren, Kacey Langston, Gunner Langston, Cooper Dudley, Kenadi Dudley, Paisley Greenhaw, Kyla Tucker, Luke Tucker, Carter Daves, and Gabby Tucker; and great-great-grandchild, Kendal Langston.

Kaye is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tracy Daves; and grandson, Jordan Forbit.

Patricia Lea Feezor, age 81, died Saturday, June 15, 2024, at her home in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born July 27, 1942, in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, the daughter of Russell and Mary Lou (Johnson) Ryser.

Pat grew up in Cheyenne Wells and graduated from Cheyenne Wells High School. She then furthered her education at Fort Hays State University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree. Pat taught school for one year in Hugoton after marrying Marvin Feezor on September 7, 1963, in Cheyenne Wells. They were happily married for 61 years. She was the office manager and co-owner with her husband, of Satanta Lumber Company, Sublette Furniture Store and in 1993 they moved to Ulysses and started Ulysses Building Supply. In her free time, Pat was an avid quilter, belonging to a quilting guild, an active member of the Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and enjoyed traveling. She and Marvin had the opportunity to travel to many countries and most of the United States. They built a cabin in New Mexico, where they made many fond memories. Pat’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandson, and she thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with them. Pat was also a member of the Satanta Arts Council and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Garden City.

Pat is survived by her husband, Marvin, of their home; son, Eric Feezor and wife, Holly, of Ulysses; daughter, Karla Hennebold and husband, Jon, of North Plains, Oregon; brothers, Randy Ryser and wife, Shirley, of McCook, Nebraska, and Kelly Ryser and wife, Karen, of Hays, Kansas; sister, Carmen Medina and husband, Jess, of Kyle, Texas; and her four adored grandchildren, Andrea Feezor, Nick Feezor, Ben Hennebold and Amelia Henelbold; great-grandson, Levi Hennebold; and nieces and nephews.

Larned – William G. Woods, 78, passed away June 14, 2024 at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He was born December 22, 1945 in Dallas, Texas, the son of William O. and Lorraine Ann Ebertowski Woods.

Moving from Blossom, Texas in 1974, he was a longtime area resident. He was of the Christian faith and worked as a hay broker. He was a member of the Boiler Makers and enjoyed fishing, flying, hunting, and attending all of his grandkids sporting events. &nbsp;He was a hard worker, always supporting his kids and grandkids.

He married Sandra Sugg and to this union were four children: Dea (Mark) Gardner, Colorado, Laura Hall, Texas, William C. Woods, Larned, and Shannon Campbell-Coyel, Texas. They later divorced.

He married Sharla P. Johnson on November 3, 1977 at Larned and gained two additional children: Paulette (Kevyn) Soupiset, Great Bend and Roy (Jessie) Pleasant, Larned.

Survivors include: wife, Sharla, Larned and their children; three brothers, James (Janice) Woods, Tennessee, David (Debra) Woods, Larned, John Woods, Larned; sister, Carolyn (Ty) Teegerstrom, Colorado; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Daniel Woods.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Larned Cemetery, Larned, with Ryan Webster presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Shirley Weigel, 89, Hays, formerly of Plainville, died Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Rooks County Health Center surrounded by her family.

She was born July 18, 1934 in Fort Collins, Colorado, the daughter of Jack and Emelia (Walters) Cole. On June 15, 1953, she was united in marriage to Edwin Weigel in Catharine and they celebrated 62 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 26, 2015. In 1961, Edwin and Shirley moved to Plainville where they raised their family and worked together at C.O. Mammals. Shirley sang in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Choir and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. After moving to Hays in 1984, Shirley opened her home and heart to many children as a daycare provider. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed playing Bingo and Bunko. Shirley was organized, made homemade noodles, and was a wonderful cook and especially talented at making delicious German meals, which were enjoyed by all. She loved her family and treasured every moment with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her two sons, Randy Weigel and wife Lora of Plainville and Rick Weigel and wife Janel of LaCrosse, two daughters, Joan Rozean and husband Paul and Janice Skeen, all of Hays, a son-in-law, Ric Leiker of Hays, a sister, Dorothy Lang of Hays, 19 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin, a daughter, Jolene Leiker, nine brothers, Florence, Paul, Rudolf, Rupert, Rudolf, Romauld, Francis, Alexius, and Alfred “Fritz” Walters, and three sisters, Helen Stecklein, Adelaide Dinkel, and Bertha Lang.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville with Fr. Leo Blasi officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. He was born on December 8th, 1955, in Hays, Kansas, to Alfred and Rosie (Kreutzer) Staab. On September 12th, 1981, he married the love of his life, Jolene (Hageman) Staab. Together they were blessed with four children: Susanna, Jessica, Jonathan, and Kimberly.

Alongside his family, he ran the Ellis County Ambulance Service for 20 years. In 1994, Duane and his family relocated to Kersey, Colorado, where he devoted nearly three decades of his life to serving as an ICU nurse. A devout Catholic, Duane was a cherished member of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Greeley, Colorado. In his spare time, Duane enjoyed indulging in intellectual pursuits, particularly listening to political radio shows and engaging in spirited debates. &nbsp;

Duane will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rosalie Mitchell, age 99 years of Great Bend, Kansas passed away early on Sunday morning, June 16, 2024 at Azria Health Woodhaven, where she had made her home for the past nearly three years.&nbsp; Rosalie was born on January 6, 1925 at Charleston, West Virginia, and had been a resident of Great Bend since 1932.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Lonnie Frederick Mitchell, Sr. on November 18, 1955 at Larned, Kansas.&nbsp; Rosalie was a homemaker and also reared and took care of more than 30 children throughout her long life.&nbsp; She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Great Bend.&nbsp; Rosalie loved to play Bingo and Pokeno.

Helen Mary Dechant Hertel, 92, passed away April 28, 2024, in Rossville, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born on April 25, 1932, south of Bazine to Henry J. and Albertine (Schoendaller) Dechant. &nbsp;Helen was a resident of Ness County until she moved to Topeka in 1987, then to Rossville in 2018.

She married Wilfred Hertel on March 26, 1951. &nbsp;Later divorcing before his death in 1999. &nbsp;They farmed South of Ness City while raising 7 children. &nbsp;She was a taxidermist; her favorite was pheasants. &nbsp;She painted and drew beautiful pictures. &nbsp;In Topeka she was a companion to Ruth Atchinson. They enjoyed belonging to Doll Club and traveling before Ruth’s death in 2001. &nbsp;Helen loved dolls and miniatures, creating many beautiful scenes. She touched many people in many ways.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane VanGilder (Larry), Topeka and Janice Weyer, Memphis, Tennessee; four sons, David (Jo), Brandon, Mississippi, James (Holly), Bazine, Kevin (Jill), Gibbon, Nebraska, and Craig (Jenny), Meridan, Mississippi; 19 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. All dear to her heart.

She was preceded in death by a son, Keith Hertel; brothers, Marvin, Lee, and Bob; sisters, Henrietta, Alice, Erma, Coralee, and Shirley.

The family will be celebrating Helen’s life, along with her brothers’ and sisters’, at the Dechant Reunion on July 13, 2024 in Topeka, officiated by Mike Dechant.

Graveside inurnment services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2024, at St. John The Baptist Cemetery, Bazine, officiated by David Hertel.

Jowilla Couch,79, affectionately known by her loved ones as Willie, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024, in Hays, Kansas. Born on June 1, 1945, in Lawrence, Kansas, Jowilla's life was a testament to her loving, generous, and thoughtful nature, touching the lives of many. She came into this world behind two sets of twins and was immediately special in her own way as she was the first “single” to arrive.

Jowilla was raised in Garden City where she attended and graduated from the local schools. After graduating with an Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Garden City Community College, she embarked on a fulfilling career that began at Southwestern Bell. She continued her professional journey at Western State Bank and found her calling at Golden Plains Credit Union, where she rose through the ranks to become Senior Vice President. Even after retirement, Jowilla remained a dedicated board member, contributing her wisdom and experience for many years.

Family was the cornerstone of Jowilla's world. She shared a beautiful and adventurous life with her beloved husband, Jim Couch. Together, they traveled the world, with a particular fondness for cruises. Jowilla's dedication to her family knew no bounds, and she was the proud matriarch to her sons Greg Cox, Brett Cox and his companion Kim Smith, Robert Couch, and Curtis and his wife Colleen Couch. Her sisters Janis Mastin and Joyce, along with her husband Mike Triebold, held a special place in her heart, as did her sisters-in-law Doris Arwine and Roberta Arwine.

Jowilla's is also survived by her grandchildren Ashlee Murray, Kristalle Hedrick, Arin Cox, Trevor Cox, Taylor Cox, Katie Berland, Jennifer Unruh, Carter Cox, and Isaac Cluster, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Each family gathering was brightened by her presence, and her love and guidance were the pillars upon which her family thrived.

She is preceded in death by her parents, step-father Paul Hoffman, brothers Joe, Jack, and James, a brother-in-law Bert Mastin, and sisters-in-law June and Faye.

Known for her impeccable standards of cleanliness, Jowilla's home was always spotless, earning the affectionate nickname of "Willie Clean." Her passion for cleaning, ironing, and mopping was matched only by her love for her family and friends. Jowilla's warm and generous spirit made her a friend to many, and her thoughtfulness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In every aspect of life, Jowilla exemplified the very best of what it means to be caring and dedicated. Her unwavering support and love for her family, her commitment to her career and community, and her zest for life's adventures left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched.

Dorothy Irene Burns, 76, passed away on June 12, 2024, in Hays, Kansas. Born on June 1, 1948, in Bowman, North Dakota; the daughter of Wallace and Elizabeth Mauer.

Dorothy relocated to Lakin, where her and Frank Burns married and established roots. In 1970, Frankie D Burns Sr. was born. Having finished her schooling in Cosmetology she opened a beauty shop which she ran for many years. Dorothy then transitioned her compassionate nature into healthcare. In this position, she ensured that everyone she came in contact with received not only exemplary care but also the respect they deserved until her retirement.

Dorothy enjoyed bowling, and acquired many state championships doing so, traveling, camping, and spending time with her family and loved ones. After her retirement Dorothy could be found taking in different activities at the local Senior Center and volunteering at the Budget Shop. She enjoyed being a devoted Mother, a Devoted Grandmother, and a Devoted Great Grandmother.

MOHRI, Patricia Jean, “Jeannie” (Steele), age 84, formerly of Leoti, KS, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024. She was born April 10, 1940 in Hutchinson, KS. Jeannie was a graduate of Wichita County High School and received her BA from Kansas State University in 1962, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.

During her life she volunteered with various organizations, the Officer’s Wives Club, Family Services, served as President of Heartland Desert Shield during the first Gulf War, and served as a docent with the National Park Service for the San Antonio Missions, favoring Mission San José. Jeannie was an exceptional seamstress and crafter and at one point owned an antique store in Papillion, Nebraska. She will be better remembered for an infectious laugh, hilarious sense of humor and quick wit (once receiving a shout-out by Ann Landers), adventurous attitude – “well, we’ve never been lost here, before,” and her fabulous style and class. Her compassion for others and animals was unmatched by many.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Hyland and Dorothy Steele and her brother, Jack Steele. She is survived by and was a rock star mother to her children, Anne Mohri, Allison Mohri-Troster and son-in-law, Adrian Troster, and Matthew Mohri, her dog Baxter, and kitty Nancy. Cheryl Kathleen (Yoke) Brown, 79, died June 3, 2024 at her home in Goodland, KS.

She was born February 18, 1945 in Wichita, KS. She graduated from Wichita West High School in 1963. She worked as a lab technician in hospitals in Newton and Dodge City, KS as well as in Santa Rosa, California, later relocating to Northern California where she became a professional musician. She played piano and keyboards along the California coast as a solo act and with various bands. She was also an artist, quilt maker and cat lover.

She is survived by her children, daughter Kim (Brown) Hamel of El Dorado, KS; son Chris Brown of Clearlake, CA; two grandchildren, Gabriel and Lily Hamel; brother David Yoke of Phoenix, AZ; and sister-in-law Janice Yoke, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dewey A. Yoke and Gladys Ann (Abbott) Yoke Minkler; brothers Dewey “Don” Yoke, Joe Yoke, and Kenneth Yoke, and sisters-in-law Evelyn Yoke and Wilma Yoke.

Florence Awyn (Kaser) Ayers was born August 23, 1925 to William Henry and Florence (Cram) Kaser at their farm home east of Osborne.&nbsp;&nbsp;Awyn was the youngest of 6 children.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Ayers, and also her parents and three brothers, Wayne, Kenneth, Dwight and wife Minnie, 2 sisters Rena and husband Ralph Barber, Opal and husband Harold Coop, and a grandson Christopher Ayers.

Awyn was married to Lester Ayers for 59 years.

They were Wholesale/retail milk distributors in the Osborne area for 35 years.

Their children are Janet and husband Tim DeCocq, Alan, Glen and wife Becky; Seven grandchildren; and Nine Great Grandchildren.

Awyn loved her family and spent a lifetime caring for them.

She was known for her flowers and her kindness, she loved music, gardening, cooking, teaching Sunday school for over 65 years and rest home work and programs.

She wrote poetry and songs, played the organ for church and for Parkview Care Center, and most of all she loved the Lord.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5PM until 7PM at the Rentschler Family Mortuaries Osborne Chapel.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30AM Wednesday June 19, 2024, at the Rentschler Family mortuaries Osborne Chapel.

The family has requested memorial contributions be made the Awyn Ayers memorial fund to be split between Gideon’s International and NwKares Hospice and can be sent in care of the mortuary.

Gerald Lee “Jerry” Staab, 75, Hays, died Friday, June 14, 2024 at his home.

He was born September 26, 1948 in Hays the son of Alfred and Alice (Zimmerman) Staab. He graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy and attended Fort Hays State University on a baseball scholarship. On June 6, 2009 he was united in marriage to Sharon (Leiker) Hammerschmidt in Hays. Jerry worked at Travenol, St. Anthony Hospital, and was a food salesman for 35 years. He was a St. Catherine third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, was a talented outfielder while at FHSU, and also with the Hays Larks and Legion baseball teams. Jerry never met a stranger and he loved to mow the lawn and when finished, he would fetch a glass of ice tea and watch the grass grow again with Sharon. His grandkids truly meant everything to him.

Survivors include his wife Sharon, of the home in Hays, children Curt Staab and wife Beth of Lansdale, PA and their children Ryan, Collin, and Trevor, Sarabeth Verbeck and husband Todd of Wichita and their son Cody Verbeck, Lyle Hammerschmidt and wife Abby of LaCrosse and their children Maylee and Bo, Ross Hammerschmidt and fiancé Kendra Barnes of LaCrosse and their daughter Amy, and Abby Stapleton of Hays and her daughter Diana, and a brother Dennis Staab and wife Marla of Catharine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Sophie Staab, and two grandsons Cody Cawood and Trae Whipple.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Catharine with Fr. Earl Befort officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time on Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested in Jerry’s memory to the Hays Larks. Gerald Lee “Jerry” Staab

Harold Raymond Taylor passed away on June 9th, 2024, at the age of 94 in the LTC in Hoxie, KS. At the time of his birth, January 16, 1930, his parents, John Orval (known as Orval) and Bernice (Haynes) Taylor lived east of Hoxie in rural Sheridan County, KS. He was the second of seven children, an older sister and five brothers.

Harold attended Holly Creek School and Tasco School before graduating from Sheridan Community High School in 1948. In May of 1949 he married Ina William. They had five children, Ione, David, Ardath, Ronda and Carol.

Harold worked on his dad’s farm until 1951, then worked for Gene Mowry for about a year and worked at Getz IGA in Hoxie for 2 years. In 1954 he went back to work for his dad and in ’57 a partnership was formed (Taylor Ranch) with his dad and brother, Marvin.

In 1968 Harold and Ina opened Taylor’s Place on Highway 24 in Hoxie. Ina passed away of cancer in March of 1976 and “TP” (as it was called by the family) was sold in 1979. Harold married Arvilla (Keith) Bell from Studley in May of 1979 and two more girls joined the family with this union: Lois and Karen. He moved into Arvilla’s home near Sheridan Lake and continued to work at the ranch and help Arvilla with her farming until his retirement. They moved to Hoxie in 2016.

Harold loved his large family, all 89 of them. He loved teasing them, playing games and cards with them, and traveling with them. He enjoyed working on the farm\ranch. Besides work, he enjoyed square dancing with Ina and playing golf in the early years of their marriage. He enjoyed bowling, reading, watching westerns, any sport, especially Hoxie High School sports, putting puzzles together and playing cards. As a young man Harold enjoyed paint by number. He won several bowling trophies and held the record high score for many years at Hoxie Lanes and also won a few golf trophies.

He was a member of the Methodist Church in Hoxie most of his life and was a generous man and supported several local charities.

Harold was preceded in death by both wives; son-in-law, Guy Williamson; grandson, Brian Schulte; great-granddaughter, Mia Schulte; his parents; sisters, Ellen May and Ruby Smith; brothers, Marvin, Dale and Larry; brother-in-law, Robert Smith; and sister-in-law, Kathleen.

He leaves to mourn his passing, six daughters and one son; Ione Williamson of St. Augustine, FL; David Taylor (Sheryl); Ronda Johnson (Roger); Carol Farber (Ron); Karen Lindenman (Robert), all of Hoxie; Ardath Beringer (Mark); and Lois Schulte (Charles), all of Bethune, CO. Harold Raymond Taylor

Rex Roger Morton was born on June 20, 1931 in Decatur County, Kansas, the son of Abbott and Margaret Morton. He passed away on January 29, 2024 in Wichita, Kansas.

Rex attended Plainview one-room school in rural Decatur County, KS and graduated from Oberlin Senior High School in 1949. Through the sale of his Decatur County Grand Champion steer, he attended one semester at K-State University before returning to work with his father on the family farm. Rex enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and was deployed to Nuremberg, Germany. During his tour of duty, he enjoyed visiting Holland and England, where he witnessed a precession with Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Guard. Upon discharge in 1955, he returned to the family farm.

Rex married Billie McClure on November 20, 1955, in Oberlin. The couple lived and worked for a short time in Atwood, Kansas before returning to the family farm and from there to a farm just north of Rexford, Kansas. In 1969 Rex left farming and began work as a Kansas State Meat Inspector, moving to Dodge City, Kansas in 1973. From there he moved to Topeka, working as a training officer in the Meat Inspection Department. Eventually he began work for Doskocil Food Companies in Hutchinson, Kansas. After retirement, Rex embarked on a new adventure picking up and delivering travel trailers all over the U.S. and occasionally into Canada. He also enjoyed woodworking. Billie and Rex lived in Sahuarita, AZ for a number of years before returning to Kansas in 2019 and making their home in Wichita.

Survivors include his wife Billie; daughter: Patty Morton (Felix Tarm); son: Allen Morton (Ruth); brother: Arnold Morton (Judy) of Roseburg, OR; sisters: Mary Futral of Savannah, GA, Margaret Ann Steadman of Oberlin, KS, and Avis Morton (Suzanne) of Kansas City, MO; grandsons: Tom Morton (Priscilla) and Frank Morton (Margo); granddaughters: Hillary McShea of Caledonia, NY, Sarah Cherry (Andrew) of Buhler, KS, and Erin Morton of Ingalls, KS; great-grandsons: Ryan Cherry, Jackson Cherry, and Clayton Morton; great granddaughters: Abby Morton, Josephine Koehler, Beatrix Koehler, Mesa Morton, and Evelyn Morton; numerous other nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Kevin Moeder, 63, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at his home.

Kevin was born November 18, 1960, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Thomas J. “Tommy” and Elenora (Herrman) Moeder. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1978 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, Kevin furthered his education by receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agri Business from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas, in 1982. He was Sr. Vice President, and the Regional Branch Manager for Farmers Bank and Trust, La Crosse, Kansas, for 38 years before his recent retirement.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 2970, where he served as a past Grand Knight, and a member of the Virgil C. Dechant 4th Degree Assembly 3550, where he served as past Faithful Navigator, all of La Crosse, Kansas. He was the chairman of the Locust Grove Village Board of Trustees from June 2013 to April 2024. Kevin also served as a member of the Fort Hays State University Alumni Board from 2006 to 2014.

Kevin enjoyed golfing, being outdoors, and in his younger years, playing softball. He loved watching sports of any kind, and was the “go to” person if you needed a sports fact or statistic. His granddaughters, Emrie and Ella were the light of his life and brought him so much joy.

On August 15, 1981, he married Cheryl Mendenhall at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Survivors include: his wife, Cheryl Moeder, La Crosse, Kansas; two sons, Matthew Moeder (Ashley), La Crosse, Kansas, and Marcus Moeder, Hutchinson, Kansas; two granddaughters, Emrie Moeder, and Ella Moeder; four brothers, Larry Moeder (Deanna), Manhattan, Kansas, Leon Moeder (Susan), Wichita, Kansas, Kurt Moeder, La Crosse, Kansas, and Duane Moeder (Linda), La Crosse, Kansas; one sister in law, Jody Gasper (Terry), Victoria, Kansas; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his father and mother in law, Jack and Sharon Mendenhall.

Visitation will be Friday, June 14, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:20 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka officiating. Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

Leroy J. Riedel, 74, Hays, died Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at HaysMed.

He was born August 29, 1949 in Hays, the son of Edwin and Esther M. (Befort) Riedel. Leroy graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in 1967 then worked as a lineman for Southwestern Bell Telephone. On August 23, 1969, he was united in marriage to Linda Gottschalk at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen, and they celebrated nearly 55 years of marriage. In 1969, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and during his three years of service did communications work and was stationed in New Jersey, Arizona, and Korea. Together, Leroy and Linda owned and operated Master Cleaners, and after retiring, he shared his love of history while volunteering at Historic Fort Hays and was a member of The Society of Friends of Historic Fort Hays. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Schoenchen Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #4166, the Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Assembly #282, VFW Post #9076, and American Legion Post #173.

Leroy was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan, enjoyed family pinochle games, and was a collector of sports memorabilia, guns, and coins. He also had an extensive marble collection, which was honored by the Kansas Toy Museum as he was the marble champion of Kansas in 1962 and took 13th in Nationals. Leroy and Linda raised their two daughters, Tonya and Tara, and they were honored to raise three grandchildren, Ashley, Chelsea, and Dylan. Leroy’s legacy extends on to his grandchildren and great grandchildren through the wisdom and knowledge he passed on to them. His family was his pride and joy, and he treasured all the lasting memories made at their SCADD Lake House at Cedar Bluff, during favorite holiday celebrations, and throughout their travels around the world, which included baptisms in the Jordan River, and annual vacations to the Bahamas.

Survivors include his wife Linda of Hays, two daughters, Dr. Tonya Knoll and husband Grady of Hays and Tara Amador of Great Bend, seven grandchildren, Ashley Kirkpatrick and husband Brennon of Hays, Chelsea Haskett and husband Dave of Hays, Dylan Zimmerman and wife Tiffany of Liberal, Shelby Trickle and husband Dalton of Hays, Dustin Knoll of Hays, Bree Pickerell of McPherson, and Evan Amador of Great Bend, five great grandchildren, Lincoln Stipe, Colton Stipe, Archer Haskett, Riggins Kirkpatrick, and Ledger Haskett, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna Hill.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Daise officiating. Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #173 Legion Riders will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Friday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Saturday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30 pm, the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 5:30 until 6:30, and a vigil service will be at 6:30, followed by a combined Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Friday at the funeral home. Monte Lee Adamson passed away at his home in Zurich, KS with his loved ones by his side on June 8, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He was 69 years old. He was born on August 29, 1954, in Long Beach, California to Henry and Shirley Adamson.

Monte grew up on a farm in Stove Prairie, Colorado. He also lived in Fort Collins, Colorado and Loveland, Colorado. He moved to Plainville, KS in 1998. Monte made lots of friends and loved hanging in his shop with his friends. He also loved joking with the people he met in town daily. He was a selfless, hardworking, funny, and loving man. He loved hunting with his hunting buddies, fishing, being in his shop, drinking with his friends, collecting coins and being with his family. Monte also loved hauling boats.

Monte is survived by his wife, Rachelle Oletzke, of the home in Zurich; children, Jessica Oletzke, of Hays, KS, Cory Adamson of Loveland, Colorado, Brandon Drieling of Colorado, Nicole Major, of Overland Park, KS, Jennifer Dickey, Hays, KS; grandchildren, Destiny Davidson, Haley Davidson, Damon Adamson, Emma Adamson, Dylon Adair, Ricky Adair, Lyric Adair, Byson Gennetten, Rosa Gennetten, Olivia Gennetten; and many step siblings in Oklahoma and nieces in Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Shirley Adamson; grandparents; brothers, Rocky and Donnie Adamson; and granddaughter, Carole Adamson.

We will miss papa’s drives on his mower and his singing in the truck.

&nbsp;Julia Ann Quenzer, 72, of Colby, died Monday, June 10, 2024. She was born on October 2, 1951, in Salina, KS, to Cleo and Ivy (Thiesen) Rolland. Julia graduated from Norton High School with the class of 1970. She was united in marriage to Michael Quenzer on May 17, 1975, in Norton, KS. To this union two sons were born. Julia had a daycare, worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Barlow and was a CNA at Colby Health and Rehab. Julia was a member of the Colby 6th Street AA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Michael; sisters-in-law, Doylene Foreman and Susan Thomson and brother-in-law Elwood Thomson.

Julia is survived by her sons, Nicholas (Michelle) Quenzer and Christopher (Danielle) Quenzer; grandchildren, Carter, Michael and Miah Quenzer and Johua and Lilly Mullins; daughter-in-law Megan (Conet) Quenzer; brother Gary (Samette) Rolland; sister-in-law Patrice Chard; brother-in-law Eldon Foreman; Uncle and Aunt Dee and Barbara Biesterfeld and many more nephews, nieces and friends.
