Mary Ann Ortega, 78, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.
Mary Ann was born December 7, 1945, in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Francis and Eleanor (Wallace) St. Peter. She was a resident of La Crosse, Kansas, for 20 years, moving from Salem, Oregon. She was an LPN before her retirement.
Mary Ann was a true Renaissance woman. When she set her mind to do something, she did it, whether it was building a front porch and a back deck on her house, to mastering electrical and plumbing issues. She was a very creative person and an artist. She loved to paint, and her family enjoys many of her paintings in their homes. Mary Ann was a deeply spiritual person and enjoyed experiencing different churches in the area.
Survivors include: two daughters, Bonnie Montgomery, and Diana Ortega; five grandchildren, Monique Urban, Stephan Blaine, Alexandra Snyder, Javier Rodriguez, and Elias Adams; two great grandchildren, Ambrose Urban, and Hagan Blaine; and one brother Richard St. Peter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Peter Ortega; one daughter, Marie Adams; and two brothers, Michael DiMillo, and Tommy St. Peter.
The family has chosen cremation. No services are planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the Humane Society of the High Plains, Hays, Kansas.
