Erlinda G. Rayas, age 81, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune, Kansas. She was born on October 12, 1942, to Eulalio and Faustina Ortiz Gutieriez in Bass Drop, Texas. From there, she moved to Brownsville, Texas, to Ulysses, KS, back to Brownfield, and finally to Tribune, Kansas where she lived for more than two decades.

Erlinda was a member of the Christian faith and was a devout mother who raised her boys to be respectful and polite to everyone. She had great pride in keeping a clean home and spent hours keeping the yards clean. She loved listening to music and taught her boys to dance to Mexican, and real County &amp; Western. She had a passion for finding treasures in thrift stores and garage sales.&nbsp;

Erlinda is survived by her five sons, Andres Diaz of Burlington, Iowa, Lupe Diaz of Brownfield, Texas, Bobby Rayas of Tribune, Kansas, Richard Rayas of Beloit, Kansas, Carl Rayas of Fort Collins, Colorado, her siblings Joe Gutieriez, of Brownfield, Texas, Petra Florez, of Brownfield, Texas, Lupe Salas, of Brownfield, Texas, Yolanda Gutieriez, of Brownfield, Texas, Janie Miranda of Brownfield, Texas, and Josie Melendez of Chicago, Illinois, 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial Services are planned for Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Price and Sons Funeral Home at 322 2nd St., Tribune, Kansas at 10:30 a.m.

Angela Rae Barber-Willis passed away at the age of 49 on Saturday, June 15, 2024, while staying at her childhood home in Hays, KS.

Angela was born on April 13, 1975, at Hadley Regional Medical Center in Hays, KS, to Donald and Luella (Squier) Barber. She grew up in Hays and graduated from Hays High School in 1994. Following graduation, she attended both Kansas State University and Fort Hays State University, majoring in Psychology. She later graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree from Fort Hays in 2006.

Angela gave birth to her only child, Alassa Barber, in 1998. In the summer of 2005, Angela met the love of her life, Stephen Willis, whom she married just over a year later on July 1, 2006. They enjoyed nearly 18 years of marriage together.

Angela had many hobbies she greatly enjoyed, including baking delicious desserts and breads—she was always searching for new recipes—cross-stitching beautiful family keepsakes, reading and writing (especially cozy mysteries), crafting, and traveling to new and exciting places whenever possible.

Angela will be remembered as a kind and spunky woman who loved being a mother.

Angela is survived by her parents, Donald and Luella Barber of Hays, KS; her husband, Stephen Willis of Kettering, OH; her daughter, Alassa Barber of Hays, KS; her sister, Crystal Hensler of Salina, KS; her sister, Stephanie Davis (Andre) of Grand Prairie, TX; and her brother, Mitchell Barber (Julie) of Shawnee, KS. She is also survived by three nieces, Malina Barber-Regier, Emily Hamm, and Sophia Hensler, and three nephews, Ryan, Andrew, and Matthew Barber.

Angela’s life will be honored on Saturday, June 22, 2024, with a public visitation from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Brock's Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hays. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. This will be followed by a lunch at the Rose Garden Banquet Hall, 2350 E Eighth St., Hays, KS 67601.

Margaret Evelyn Fenton Chatham, died June 17, 2024 at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital.

Margaret Evelyn Fenton Chatham was born July 16, 1926 near Hunter, Kansas In the Blue Hill Community to Albert and Etta (King) Fenton. Margaret grew up in the Mitchell, Rooks, Russell and Osborne County area. Her parents moved several times during the Dirty 30’s. Margaret graduated from Osborne High School in 1944. After graduation from High School Margaret attended Brown Mackie School of Business, in Salina, Kansas for 2 and half years and then was employed by Lynn Abstract and Title Company in Salina, Kansas.

On August 24, 1947 Margaret married Roy Chatham, Jr. Margaret and Roy celebrated 74 years of marriage. Margaret and Roy farmed and ranched from 1947-2012 on the Chatham family farm northeast of Luray in the Cheyenne Community. They were blessed with the birth of 2 daughters, Rita and Karen.

Margaret was the bookkeeper for the farm. She milked cows, raised chickens, took meals to the field, gardened, canned, baked, sewed, taught Sunday School, served as church treasurer, church women’s leader, 4-H Leader, chauffeured her girls to numerous school activities and worked for a short time at the Osborne Livestock Commission Company on Sale day.

Margaret enjoyed learning and helping people. Margaret enjoyed playing the piano and was Rita and Karen’s first piano teacher. She played the piano for enjoyment and loved to sing. Margaret listened to many hours of her daughters’ practicing their instruments.

Margaret was a member of the Cheyenne United Methodist Church until it closed and then attended and became a member of the Osborne Free Methodist Church.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters Neva (Wendell) Berry, and Lela (George) Scott, and her husband, Roy.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Rita (William) Blauvelt, and Karen (Patrick) Call, one grandson Garrett (Sarah) Call and 3 great grandchildren Graham, Lawson and Sybil.

Andrew Leonard Duran, age 57, of Ellis, Kansas peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas surrounded by his loved ones, after a courageous battle with metastatic lung cancer.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The beloved son of Alfred Duran and Lorraine Quintana (Martinez) was born on December 15, 1967, in Leadville, Colorado.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Andrew was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes.&nbsp; He was employed at Qdoba Mexican Grill in Hays.&nbsp; Andrew was a supportive father, a caring brother, and a devoted partner.&nbsp; His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the honor of calling him family or friend.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In his spare time, Andrew found solace in fishing, a passion that brought him great joy and relaxation.&nbsp; He was a true Broncos fan and his dedication to this hobby reflected his patience and contemplative nature.&nbsp; Andrew's kind heart and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him and was known to many as a devoted family man.

Antonina Chavez Sotelo, age 84 years, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away on Tuesday afternoon, June 18, 2024 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; Antonina was born on February 2, 1940 at Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico to Favian and Petra (Sotelo) Chavez.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Rumaldo Garcia in 1962, and he passed away in 2005.&nbsp; Antonina moved to Great Bend in 2008.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and crocheting, crafts, cooking, traveling, and most importantly spending time with family.&nbsp; Antonina was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Prince of Peace Parish at Great Bend.

Roger Lee Holmdahl died on June 14, 2024, at the age of 88 years, in Atwood, Kansas. He was born during the Dust Bowl on July 11, 1935, in Oberlin, Kansas, to Carl Joseph “Joe” Holmdahl and Maude Venla (Carlson) Holmdahl. He lived in rural Rawlins County, attending country school, until he moved with his family to Wheat Ridge, Colorado, in the mid-1940s. He graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in 1953.

Following high school, Roger joined the Army and was primarily stationed in Germany operating a radar unit. During his time there, he was able to travel through Europe and into Africa, which started a love of traveling. After his time in the military, he returned to Colorado to farm, where he married Jean (Mazza) Holmdahl in 1961. Roger and Jean moved back to the Holmdahl family farm in Kansas in the spring of 1964. Roger lived the rest of his life tending the land his grandparents had homesteaded when they emigrated from Sweden in the 1880s.

Roger’s lifelong career in agriculture was highlighted by his prize cattle herd. He started with Herefords in the 1970s, and then added Simmentals in the 1980s. He was very proud that his calves would bring a premium at any sale barn, based solely on his reputation as an expert cattleman. Roger loved raising wheat and putting up alfalfa – harvest and silage cutting were eventful times that often included his beloved nephews and young men from the neighborhood, who he mentored without them even realizing how much he taught them until they were older.

In 1971, Roger and Jean became the proud parents of a daughter, Wendy, who was their only child. Roger instilled in her his love of the land, golfing, an obsession with the weather, and his gift of conversation. Roger was the kind of man who would sit down in a coffee shop in Moab, Utah, or Midland, Texas, and find some common ground with at least one person in the room.

In the 1990s, after his marriage ended, Roger met the love of his life, Donna Reagan. This began a 30 year relationship of dancing, traveling around North America, and loving companionship. Traveling between the farm in Kansas and Donna’s condo in Denver became a monthly occurrence, and he continued the journey until this past winter, when he became too ill to travel.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his dearest lifelong best friend – his sister Joanne (Holmdahl) Yager. He is survived by his daughter Wendy of Atwood, Kansas; his granddaughter Emily (Fields) Wickham and husband Grant of Bertrand, Nebraska; and his grandsons Alexander Fields and Cooper Hayes; along with many nieces and nephews.

Roger’s life will be honored on Saturday, July 13, 2024. At 11:00 a.m. a short memorial service will be held at the Herndon Covenant Cemetery, located 12 miles east of Atwood on Highway 36. This will be followed by a come-and-go Celebration of Life including lunch and golf at the Atwood Country Club – please feel free to bring your clubs!

Phillipsburg resident, Linda Blubaugh, passed away on June 18, 2024, at the Phillips County Hospital, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, at the age of 78.

Linda was born on August 22, 1945, in Phillips County, Kansas, to her parents Lewis and Lois (Jaenicke) Krouse.

She was united in marriage to Dan Blubaugh on October 15, 1966, in the St. John’s Catholic Church in Logan, Kansas.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents Lewis and Lois Krouse, and brother Dennis Krouse.

Survivors include her husband Dan of Phillipsburg, Kansas, and son Troy Blubaugh of Beloit, Kansas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the St. Philip and James Catholic Church in Phillipsburg, Kansas, with Father John Schmeidler officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Logan, Kansas.

Christopher Dale Wilken, 53, passed away at home with his loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer, on June 17, 2024. Chris was born on June 8, 1971 in Garden City, KS, to Dale Wilken and Joyce (Arwine) Triebold.

Chris was born and raised in Garden City, attended and graduated from local schools, and although he enjoyed living in Colorado Springs for 10 years, he was always really a Kansas man at heart.

As a self-employed carpenter, Chris was a master craftsman, building and remodeling numerous homes that will leave a beautiful and tangible legacy of his hard work in this community.

Outside of work, he was known for his musical talents, playing guitar with several local bands as well as jamming with family and friends. Chris has been a devoted follower of Steelers football since his youth. In recent years, he developed a passion for cookouts, often posting delicious pics for his online “fans” and enjoying the outdoor time with his family and dogs.

Chris was very charismatic and had a talent for using humor to get through hard times. His animated storytelling and humorous impressions never failed to bring a smile to family, friends, and work associates.

Chris is survived by his wife of 30 years- Rachel Wilken of Garden City;

children- Ayrika (Mitch) Watson, Jacquelyn Jewell, of Garden City and Alexander (Paige) Wilken of Taos, NM;

grandchildren- Karma, Amadeus, Scarlett, and Andi;

parents- Dale &amp; Lois Wilken and Joyce &amp; Mike Triebold;

siblings- Janelle Livingston, Cristin Smith, Kevin Wilken, and Wyatt Wilken.

Mamie R. (Mravinec) Huxman, 95, of Russell, Kansas, passed away at the Harry Hynes Hospice in St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Mamie was born June 3, 1929 on the family farm in Osborne County, Kansas.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Frank and Ruby (Boyd) Mravinec.&nbsp; She grew up in Osborne County and graduated from Natoma High School in the Class of ’47.&nbsp; She then attended Ft. Hays State University for a year and a half before getting marriage.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Joseph Huxman on April 14, 1950 in Russell.&nbsp; They made their home in Natoma, before moving to California while Joseph was in the military.

Mamie was a devoted wife and home maker.&nbsp; She worked as a secretary for North American Aviation for over 23 years.&nbsp; After Joseph’s retirement, they moved back to Russell in 2004.&nbsp; Joseph preceded her in death on September 16, 2013.&nbsp; She attended Bible Baptist Church of Russell.&nbsp; She had a kind heart and friendly smile for everyone she met.

Mamie’s surviving family include her brother, Larry Mravinec&nbsp; and wife Lisa of Russell, Kansas; and nephew, Bart Mravinec and wife Denise of Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Helen Iola Waggoner, 79, a long time Graham County resident passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Logan County Senior Living in Oakley. She was born November 5, 1944, to RC and Mary (Clark) Ray in a farmhouse south of Penokee. She was welcomed into family by her brother Ralph.

As a young girl, she attended school in Morland where she met the love of her life, Tim Waggoner. After graduating from Morland High School they were married June 3, 1962. The couple was blessed with four children: LaDonna, Galen Royer II, Angela, and Timothy “Gregg”.

Helen and Tim raised this family on the family farm south of Morland. Many fond memories were made there. Snow in the winter meant going out behind the house and sledding down the hills, then coming into the warm kitchen for hot homemade soup and a game of cards. Spring, summer, and autumn were very busy times; however, Sundays were spent down by the farm’s fishing pond.

Helen would always have a large garden where she would show that hard work and dedication always paid off. Helen loved flowers and had a special knack for arranging them. Her special talent with flowers eventually led her to a flourishing career. Many beautiful arrangements, wedding and sympathy flowers came from her shop, The Unicorn.

As their children married, Helen and Tim were blessed with a dozen grandchildren, all of whom agreed, Grandma and Grandpa made the best rhubarb jelly. Helen and Tim cherished every moment with them and their children.

In her spare time, and later at the Senior Center, Helen enjoyed reading, listening to music, and creating many beautiful things with flowers, clay and paint. In the evenings, Helen and her roommate and special friend, Maxine Zerr, loved to play Rummy-Q.

Survivors include three children; LaDonna (David) Slaughter of Oberlin; Galen Royer II (Kathi) Waggoner of Wakeeney; Timothy “Gregg” (Evone) Waggoner of Quinter; and 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; and her brother Ralph (Jeanine) Ray of Morland. She was preceded in death by her husband Tim; her parents; her infant daughter, Angela; and a nephew Calvin Ray.

Helen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother. She cared deeply for all the friends she met along her life’s journey. Her smile, her laugh, and her genuine work ethic will be missed.

Funeral Services will be held at Stinemetz Funeral Home, Hill City, KS

Service is Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

She was born on May 30, 1932, to Charles and Elizabeth (Randal) Dorn in Long Island, New York. She met Harold Lee Zolman while living in Pueblo, Colorado. They were married on October 7, 1956, in Raton, New Mexico. Together they raised five children: Harold, Elizabeth, Charles, John and Mary.

Edna loved her family and enjoyed get-togethers. Some of her hobbies were camping, fishing and reading. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness organization in Hays, KS.

Edna is survived by her children, Elizabeth Anderson of Pueblo, CO, Charles (Judy) Zolman of Pueblo, CO, John Zolman of Pueblo, CO, and Mary (Steve) Plante of Plainville; daughter-in-law, Renee Zolman of Denver, CO; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Zolman; son, Harold Zolman, Jr.; grandson, Jeremy Hart; and four brothers.

Edna Amanda Zolman

Sylvia Jo Hopkins, 85, of Salina, Kansas, and former Russell, Kansas, resident died on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Kenwood View Health and Rehab Center in Salina, Kansas.

Sylvia was born on December 07, 1938, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Marie and Lloyd Houdyshell. She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1956. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Ronald George Hopkins on August 04, 1957, in Russell, Kansas. From this union Sylvia and Ron were blessed with 3 children, George, Greg and Grant. The family moved and made their home in Garden City in 1967, and Sylvia lived there for most of her adult life. Later she moved to Mulvane, Kansas, for a short while then moved to Salina, Kansas, and live there for over 20 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was an avid reader and dedicated bridge player. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her sons George Hopkins and wife Lori of Garden City, Kansas, Greg Hopkins and wife Stephanie of Twinsburg, Ohio and Grant Hopkins of Wichita, Kansas; sisters Patricia Young and husband Wayne of Overland Park, Kansas; 5 grandchildren Mitchell, Matthew, Beau, Spencer and Erika and 3 great grandchildren.

Sylvia Jo Hopkins, 85, of Salina, Kansas, and former Russell, Kansas, resident died on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Kenwood View Health and Rehab Center in Salina, Kansas.Sylvia was born on December 07, 1938, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Marie and Lloyd Houdyshell. She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1956. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Ronald George Hopkins on August 04, 1957, in Russell, Kansas. From this union Sylvia and Ron were blessed with 3 children, George, Greg and Grant. The family moved and made their home in Garden City in 1967, and Sylvia lived there for most of her adult life. Later she moved to Mulvane, Kansas, for a short while then moved to Salina, Kansas, and live there for over 20 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was an avid reader and dedicated bridge player. John is preceded in death by his father John Henry Williams and Grandmother Velma Diehl.

JT thoroughly enjoyed cooking at his restaurant the South Side Diner and loved the community it afforded him.&nbsp; In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors in nature, taking amazing pictures, playing his flute or learning a tune on his guitar.&nbsp; John had an artistic and creative spirit that made him a natural at preparing amazing meals, learning a musical instrument or writing a well written poem or story.&nbsp; John was a devoted son to his mother Janice and enjoyed spending time visiting with her and sharing thoughts on health and nutrition. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved dogs Ebby and Zeek.&nbsp;

A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina, with family present from 4-6 p.m.

John Terence (JT) Williams

Jody Hartwell, 92 years old, of Colby, Kansas, passed away peacefully in her home on June 17th, 2024. Jody was born in Toole County, Montana on November 25th, 1931, to Ethel and Joseph Skryja. Jody was born in a blizzard on the family's homestead in Montana.

Jody married Red Hartwell in 1966 in Shelby, Montana. Together they joyously raised Penny (Keegan) and Jeff Hartwell. Red and Jody made their homes in Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota while Red worked in the oil field. After retirement they both made their home in Colby. There they helped their son Jeff Hartwell with his racing career and helped raise their grandchildren. Jody was a loving sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ethel Skryja: her husband Red Hartwell; sisters, Jean Hunt and Freda Hartwell; brothers, Dave Pederson and Richard Skryja; son Jeff Hartwell, and granddaughter Kayla Hartwell.

She is survived by her daughter Penny Keegan (Kevin Keegan), of North Dakota; grandchildren, Cy Crighton, Chase Hartwell and Jordan (Hartwell) Sweet; six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Colby.

Shannon Wade Sindt passed away June 9, 2024 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS at the age of 64. &nbsp;He was born Jan. 2, 1960 in Eugene, OR, the son of Ralph &amp; Jolene (Bergman) Sindt.

Paula was a hard-working homemaker and a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She loved and cared for her family very deeply. She especially adored and doted on her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include sister, Petra Banda de Garcia of Great Bend and many nieces and nephews that will miss her dearly.

Paula Banda

Benjamin Franklin “Ben” Millard, Jr., 85, passed away June 16, 2024, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born on June 17, 1938, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Benjamin Franklin, Sr. and Irene Lee (Krug) Millard. On November 24, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Janis Ruth Stutz in Mission, Texas. She survives.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Ben worked as a Marketing Associate for Sysco Foodservice of Kansas City. Prior to that, he proudly served four years for his country in the United States Air Force at Biggs Air Force Base in El Paso, Texas, as a trained hydraulic specialist, working on B-52s and other aircrafts. Following this training, Ben, Janis, and Baby Valerie moved back to Great Bend, where he then spent five years in the oilfield working as a diesel technician for Diesel Equipment before switching to sales.&nbsp;

Ben was a member of the First Christian Church – serving in many roles like church elder, member of the Masonic Lodge, member of St. Omer No. 14 Commandery of Knights Templar drill team, Lions Club, a Boy Scout during his childhood, and a terrific swimmer on the Great Bend High School swim team. Ben was also a charter member of S.R.C.A, carrying a passion and love of cars his entire life. He was a craftsman, his hands were his tools, he could fix anything, from car motors to rebuilding his home, and was meticulous with any work he did, including his yard work. Ben enjoyed family vacations to remote, mountain areas in Colorado and Wyoming camping, fishing, and above all, spending quality time with his family. In addition to camping adventures, Ben always ensured that his Kansas family traveled to Texas to spend time with the Stutz clan of Janis’s mother and five brothers. Always a gentleman, he took care of his wife and family, forever giving his love and support in all their ventures.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Janis Millard of the home; daughter, Valerie Ann Romine and husband Kent of Great Bend; son, Benjamin Scott Millard and wife Hsiao Lan Sun (Stephanie) of Taiwan; two grandchildren, Chad Romine and wife Taylor of Quinter, and Ryan Romine of Great Bend; sister, Sandra Kay Jensen and husband Lester of Bolivar, Missouri; two nieces, Kim John of Bolivar, Missouri, and Kari Blakely of Manhattan; five brothers-in-law, V.C. Stutz, III, of Mission, Texas, George Stutz of Liberty, Texas, Jerry Stutz of Houston, Texas, Jimmy Stutz and wife Betty of Rockport, Texas, and Roger Stutz and wife Linda of Houston, Texas; and numerous loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and infant sister, Frankie Lee Millard.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024, with the family receiving guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Lawrence Denning

Phillip R. Hammond, 69, of Ulysses, Kansas, passed away at his home early in the morning of June 14th with his wife and son at his side following a battle with cancer. Phil was born on March 23rd, 1955, to Raymond and Mignon Hammond in Garden City, Kansas, and was a lifelong resident of Ulysses, graduating from Ulysses High School in 1973.

Phil was raised on the farm north of Ulysses and loved the farming life with his dad and raised livestock while in high school. He left the farm after graduation and worked in delivery, sales and a manufacturing business until he made the decision to strike out on his own, which eventually led him to start his own business in remodeling and construction. He had a successful career over the next 30 years.

In 1980, Phil met his future spouse, Teresa, and wed in 1982, going on to have one son, Aaron Hammond.

Phil was a talented and determined man, always working to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. Phil was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father. His knowledge and guidance was the foundation of his family. Anyone who knew Phil knew that he was a truly special father, husband and friend.

Phil was also a passionate mechanic, sport-shooter, craftsman and patriot and could often be found creating new projects from his own design in his shop at home.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mignon Hammond of Ulysses, and sisters, Dorothy Hollingsworth of Antelope, California, and Lucinda Butler of Stockton, Kansas.

He is survived by his spouse, Teresa Hammond; his son, Aaron Hammond; and granddaughter, Piper.

Phillip R. Hammond, 69, of Ulysses, Kansas, passed away at his home early in the morning of June 14th with his wife and son at his side following a battle with cancer. Phil was born on March 23rd, 1955, to Raymond and Mignon Hammond in Garden City, Kansas, and was a lifelong resident of Ulysses, graduating from Ulysses High School in 1973.Phil was raised on the farm north of Ulysses and loved the farming life with his dad and raised livestock while in high school. He left the farm after graduation and worked in delivery, sales and a manufacturing business until he made the decision to strike out on his own, which eventually led him to start his own business in remodeling and construction. He had a successful career over the next 30 years.In 1980, Phil met his future spouse, Teresa, and wed in 1982, going on to have one son, Aaron Hammond.Phil was a talented and determined man, always working to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. Phil was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father. His knowledge and guidance was the foundation of his family. Anyone who knew Phil knew that he was a truly special father, husband and friend.Phil was also a passionate mechanic, sport-shooter, craftsman and patriot and could often be found creating new projects from his own design in his shop at home.Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mignon Hammond of Ulysses, and sisters, Dorothy Hollingsworth of Antelope, California, and Lucinda Butler of Stockton, Kansas.He is survived by his spouse, Teresa Hammond; his son, Aaron Hammond; and granddaughter, Piper.The family requests that anyone who wishes to support or honor Phil, do so by contributing to the memorial fund which will be given to the Adobe Historical Museum in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Brian Gernald Yaeger, Branson West, MO, son of James and Carely (Wanker) Yaeger, was born September 12, 1979, at Ransom, KS, and departed this life on June 16, 2024, at the age of 44.

Brian is preceded in death by his grandparents, Gernald and Pauline Wanker and Peter and Martha Yaeger; uncles David Wanker, Patrick Wanker, and Al Marciel; and aunt Marlene (Yaeger) Marciel

He is survived by his parents, James and Carely Yaeger, Branson West, MO; aunt, Charlotte Wanker, WaKeeney, KS; siblings Andrea (Larry) Romeiser, Cape Fair, MO, Cindy (Alex) Rufenacht, Reinbeck, IA, Peter (Maggie) Yaeger, Omaha, NE; nieces and nephews, Bailey (Paul) Shaffer and great niece Jacey Jade, Branson West, MO, Shayla Rufenacht, Branson, MO, Dawson Yaeger (girlfriend, Allie Anding) Omaha, NE, Aspen Romeiser, Fayetteville, AR. Along with cousins Julie, Kelli, Angie, Heather and Kim and their families.

In Brian’s young life, he learned and grew through many services, the first being Heartspring, Wichita, KS, and the last being Stone County Disability Board Services, along with Linkability and Self Directed Services, all located near his home in Missouri. Brian enjoyed thousands of sporting events for his siblings, extended family, and friends. He also participated in Special Olympics for many years. &nbsp;Brian loved worshiping with his church families, all forms of music, and greeting others with waves of hello and lots of “Good Byes”! &nbsp;Brian could be found going for rides of any kind on bikes, boats, golf carts, gators, jeeps, and cars. &nbsp;He liked to guide the ways to go! &nbsp;On those adventures, stopping for a Pepsi or ice cream brought true joy to him. Everywhere Brian went he ran into someone he knew and was always ready for a handshake, high five, or a fist bump, as he caught your attention with his beautiful eyes.

Although Brian was a man of few words, he was very able to communicate with those who knew him best! &nbsp;His smile, laugh, and love for Jesus was contagious. He will be truly missed by all his family who loved him dearly. &nbsp;However, we have peace knowing that he has received complete healing and is now enjoying his days in heaven.

A memorial service for Brian will be held at LifeSong UMC, 353 State Hwy 76, Reeds Spring, MO 65737 on Wednesday, June 19th at 3:00 pm with a light meal to follow at the church.

Brian Gernald Yaeger

Elsie Ann Urban, 88, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas.

Elsie was born June 18, 1935, in Rush County, Kansas, the daughter of Felix and Caroline (Schuckman) Kuhn. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1953 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, she was a farmer, rancher, and homemaker.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and St. Ann’s Altar Society, both of Liebenthal, Kansas.

On May 24, 1955, she married Norbert W. Urban at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas. He preceded her in death February 9, 2021.

Elsie was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved farming and ranching alongside her husband, Norbert. She had many interests, a few of those included word search puzzles, shark’s tooth hunting, cooking, sewing, gardening, making t-shirt and blue jean quilts, camping with her family, garage sales, and road trips. Elsie enjoyed her friends and the time they spent together. She was an avid KU Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs, and Kansas City Royals fan. Many memories were made on the family “hay less hayrides” each summer.

Survivors include: one daughter, Pamela Leiker (Richard), La Crosse, Kansas; two sons, Glen Urban (Pam), Lindsay, Oklahoma, and Brent Urban, Overland Park, Kansas; four grandchildren, Amber Irvin (Chad), Jason Leiker, Nathan Urban (Shannon), and Anisha Urban; eight great grandchildren, Audrey Irvin, Chet Irvin, Hadley Leiker, Lyndon Leiker,

Killian Urban, Elsa Urban, Rosalyn Urban, and Kamdyn Urban, and one brother, Harlen Kuhn, Imperial, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sister in law, Marietta Kuhn.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas. A rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:20 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.
