Marlin J. Marintzer was born on August 29, 1942, in Oberlin, Kansas, son of Emmery and Josephine (Solko) Marintzer. He grew up in Herndon, Kansas and attended St. Mary’s Parochial Grade School and Herndon Rural High School graduating in 1960. He helped his mother with her farming to support the family and worked for Beaver Valley Hatchery & Feed Store for 12 1\2 years and then worked for Herndon Produce for 2 1/ 2 years. He then went to work for his father-in-law Wayne Goltl Construction working there the rest of his life.
He married Dana Goltl on May 8, 1976, in Oberlin, Kansas. He then moved to Oberlin where he resided the rest of his life.
Marlin shot trap and played Herndon fast pitch softball and Oberlin slow-pitch softball in his younger years. He loved to fish in Kansas, trout fish on Colorado and was fortunate to fish in Alaska four times.
He attended St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church in Herndon and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin. He was a 3rd degree member of the Oberlin Knights of Columbus, serving his council for 30 years as an officer.
Marlin is survived by his wife Dana Marintzer; sister, Sharon Ecker; father-in-law Wayne Goltl; nephews: Troy Ecker and Bart Ecker of Hays, KS; great niece, Brandi (Bryce) Ficken of Hays, KS; and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carla; mother-in-law, Dixie Goltl and brother-in-law, Gene Ecker.
Mass of Chistian Burial will be held 10:30 am Monday, September 9, 2024, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oberlin. Visitation will be held 3:00-7:00 pm Sunday September 8, 2024, at Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, with family receiving guests from 5:00-7:00. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Oberlin Knights of Columbus or Decatur County Museum and sent in care of Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, 121 N.
