
Lorna Jean (Underwood) Hajny of Smith Center, Kansas, passed away June
17, 2020 at Smith County Memorial Hospital. She previously resided on a
farm in the Esbon, Kansas area.
She was born September 1, 1928 on a farm near Otego, Kansas, to
parents Charley and Elsie (Snyder) Underwood. She graduated from Esbon
High School.
Lorna worked at Southwestern Bell and after marriage spent time
raising a family and worked hard helping on the farm. She enjoyed her
grandchildren, bowling, playing bingo, gardening, cooking, and community
activities in the farm area and later in Smith Center.
She was thrilled to win a quarter playing bingo. During the holidays, she was the fastest at unwrapping gifts.
She married Nolin Hajny on November 16, 1947. He survives in Smith
Center, Kansas. Also surviving are their three children, Melvin Hajny
and companion Helen Chancellor, Bruning, Nebraska; Sherry (Hajny) and
husband Robert Young, Topeka, Kansas; Brad and wife Kathy Hajny,
Jamestown, Kansas. Other survivors include seven grandchildren; two
step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two
step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Corrinne Johnson of Blair,
Nebraska; and her brother Verle Underwood of Bellevue, Nebraska.
Additional relatives, friends, and special friend, Pam Hajny, survive.
Lorna is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Milton
Underwood and his wife Arleta; Max Underwood; and Dale Underwood. Two
sisters, Gayle Cole and her husband Junior; Charlotte Frank and her
husband Robert. One brother-in-law, Eugene Johnson. Two grandchildren,
Melissa Hajny and Corey Hajny.
