Clayton H. Campbell

Clayton H. Campbell, 90, died at his home in Hill City, Kansas, Monday, September 7, 2020. He was born March 14, 1930 in Minneapolis, Kansas to Leo Morton and Mary Lou (Constable) Campbell. He was raised in Minneapolis, attending grade and high school there. Following high school graduation, Clayton went to Bethany College in Lindsborg where he played football. When he was no longer able to play football because of an injury, he quit college and worked for a Lindsborg area farmer. In 1951 he joined the United States Army, was stationed in Korea, and earned the Korean Service Medal.

After the war Clayton worked as a concrete truck driver for a construction company. He soon moved to Hill City where he helped with the building of Dawson Place. Clayton met Betty Scott and they were married December 24, 1962, in Hill City. A change in jobs found him employed by Pfeifer Well Service until they closed their operation. He finished his work years with Murfin Well Service retiring in 2000 at the age of 70.

Through the years Clayton and Betty kept busy working and raising their family. When he found spare time on his hands, he enjoyed fishing. However, most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding Clayton in death were his parents, his wife Betty (September 3, 2012) and two brothers-in-law: Leo and Jerry. Survivors left to cherish his memory are his sons: Bobby Nix, Jr., Hays and Curtis Campbell and his wife Suzanne, Derby; his daughter Tammy Richmeier, Hill City; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Clayton will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
