Lois Elaine Meitl was born October 6, 1928, in Selden, KS to Florentz and
 Margaret (Reinert) Neff. She passed away September 25, 2020, at the Good
 Samaritan Society of Decatur County at the age of 91.


Lois grew up in Selden and graduated from Selden High School. She 
then went on to attend Marymount in Salina where she graduated with a 
Bachelor’s of Science degree. On June 6, 1951, Lois was united in 
marriage to Gerald F. Meitl. Together they raised nine children in their
 home three miles northeast of Leoville. Lois was a homemaker and High 
School Teacher in Leoville, Rexford and Selden. She was a member of the 
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Leoville.  She was also a 
member and served on the Board of the Salina Diocese Council of Catholic
 Women in the mid 1980’s. 


Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald in 2006; son, Gregory in 1960.


She is survived by her three sons, Steven and Marlene Meitl of 
McCook, NE, Tim Meitl of Indianapolis, IN, and Brice Meitl and Darci 
Meitl of Oberlin, KS; five daughters, Joan Meitl and Jeff Franklin, 
Boise, ID, Ann Johnson, Overland Park KS, Nancy and Brad Bassett of 
Salina, KS, Gail and Todd Shields of Bolivar, MO, and Cindy and Ed 
Starke of Helena, MT; 13 grandchildren: Kyle Johnson and wife Sarah, 
Natalie Johnson, Marie and husband Larry Holloman, Clint and wife Gina 
Rocha, Hannah and Dylan Bassett, Courtney and Amanda Shields, Anthony, 
Jenna, and James Starke, Laysha and husband Tyler O’Shields, and Faith 
Meitl; and eight great grandchildren. 


Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, October 
1, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Leoville. Burial 
will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Leoville. Visitation will be 1-7:00
 pm Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin. A 
Rosary and Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 pm following the

Lois Elaine Meitl

Keith Alden Van Pelt was born July 1, 1947 in Delta, CO to LeRoy "Jack" 
Van Pelt and Katie Maude (Smith) Van Pelt. He passed away Saturday, Sept
 26, 2020 at the Great Plains Hospital in North Platte, NE at the age of
 73.


Keith was raised in Dresden, KS where he attended grade school and 
graduated from Jennings High School in Jennings, KS in 1965. Keith was 
drafted into the Army in July of 1966 and proudly served his country 
until his honorable discharge in June of 1968. 


Keith married Elaine Wagoner on November 5, 1966 and to this union they had 3 children, Curt, Leah, and Jason.


Keith married his 2nd wife Maritta Louise (Foight) on April 7, 1973.
 Over the years, the family made their home in McCook and Indianola, NE 
and Oberlin, KS. Keith worked for Murfin Drilling Company for over 40 
years before he retired in January 2015. He was a devoted husband, 
father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and enjoyed attending his 
children's and grandchildren's activities along with his nieces and 
nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews activities. 


He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Curt and Shannon 
Van Pelt of Winfield, KS and Jason and Lorna Van Pelt of Clayton, NC; 
one daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Steve Sewell of Dresden, KS; one 
sister-in-law, Jannelle Van Pelt of Indianola, NE, and two 
brothers-in-law, Glendon Foight of Grand Island, NE and Ron Foight of 
Beaver City, NE. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Dan Sewell, 
Thomas Sewell, Alexis Ruetti, Kayla DelaVega, Kyle Van Pelt, Kaden Van 
Pelt, Gina Westerman, Spencer Van Pelt and Ariana Van Pelt; 8 
great-grandchildren: Vichtor DeleVega, Trinity Sewell, Wally Sewell, RJ 
Ruetti, Lyndee Ruetti, Jay Van Pelt, Dexter and Zephren Westerman; in 
addition to nephews and nieces and other family members and friends.


Keith was preceded in death by his 2nd wife, Maritta (Foight) Van 
Pelt; parents LeRoy and Katie; one infant brother and one infant sister;
 brothers Roy Van Pelt and Charlie Van Pelt, and one sister-in-law Dona 
Van Pelt.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, October 3, 2020

Keith Alden Van Pelt

John Harris, 84, went to be with Jesus on September 28, 2020, at his 
home in Great Bend surrounded by his whole family. He was the son of 
Merle and Emma Harris, born on January 31, 1936 in Pretty Prairie.&nbsp; He 
was one of six children.

John grew up enjoying the outdoors; fishing, hunting, farming and later, boating and more fishing.

John graduated from Mt. Hope High School in 1955. He started dating 
Carole Schoonover from Haven High School, starting his junior year in 
high school.&nbsp; While John was in high school, he met his Lord and was 
baptized at Mount Hope Methodist Church. Later, on August 15, 1957, he 
married that high school sweetheart and they went to Hutchinson 
Community College, where John played football and was co-captain of the 
football team in 1957. From there they went onto Emporia State 
University, where he received his BSE in 1959.

John’s first job was teaching in Carbondale, where he coached all 
three sports, taught history, shop and drivers education. In those days,
 “the coach” marked the football field and drove the players’ bus.

Their summers were spent at Arkansas State University where they 
received their MSE degree the following two summers. It helped that ASU 
was so close to calm and beautiful, Lake Norfork.

After two years in Carbondale, they moved to Partridge where John 
coached and taught from 1962-1964 (football &amp; track). While in 
Partridge, John and Carole started their family. Pam was born in 1964. 
Then, as they moved to Goddard the rest of the family came along; Kim, 
1967, Jenni, 1969 and Tammi in 1973. They made their home in Goddard for
 the next 12 years while John was coaching football and track and 
teaching Drivers Education and History.

While in Goddard, he continued at Wichita State University to finish 
his Specialist in Education Administration. The next move was to 
Athletic Director in Goddard.

Then in 1976, they moved to Great Bend, where John was the new 
Assistant Superintendent in charge of finance, and buildings and 
grounds. What a wonderful career followed at school, with further 
education, and teaching finance classes at FHSU and for KSU. The many 
years until his retirement went quickly and in 2004 he retired from USD 
428.

When the first child was born, they decided to make family vacation a
 priority. Each year, they would ask the girls where they wanted to go 
and it was always Table Rock Lake and Branson. They had many good times 
and good years together, as this family vacation continues as a 
tradition. John had many plans for fishing trips after retirement. He 
and Carole went to Alaska twice and British Columbia and Hawaii before 
his health became an issue.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Carole, of the home, 
four daughters, Pam Allender (Kendall) of Hutchinson, Kim Randall (Mark)
 of Great Bend, Jenni Wittig (Steve) of Great Bend and Tammi 
Krebaum&nbsp;(Kevin) of Salina; one brother, Joe Harris (Harriet); one 
sister, Amelia Lyon; two brother-in-laws, Jack Cole and Don Newton; 12 
grandchildren, Erika Ewing (Harley) and their children Harley and 
Theodore, Erin Bernard (Jon), Zane Allender, Jackson Randall, Jensen 
Randall, Jaiden Randall (earning her angel wings in 2001), Johnathan 
Randall, Dustin Swanson (Melissa) and their children Rydlie, Lennex and 
Coda, Chantell Wittig (Jordan McKenzie), Kade Krebaum, Megan Krebaum and
 Julianna Krebaum.

He was preceded in passing by three sisters, Audrey Stamback, Julia 
Cole, and Ellenna Newton; and by two brother-in-laws, James Stamback and
 Gary Lyon.

His family, these wonderful kids, grandkids and great grandkids were 
the love of his life. He didn’t ever want to miss being in on whatever 
sport or activity they were doing. The last two years, his health 
dictated that he couldn’t go, but he still kept up on what was 
happening.

John was a generous, patient, loving, kind and caring husband, dad, 
grandpa, great grandpa and friend to so many wonderful people. John 
loved to tell stories that entertained his family and friends. Whether 
the stories be about the civil war, the wild, wild west or the latest 
fishing stories or football games, he entertained us all with his 
knowledge and wit. He was an avid reader of history and Civil War 
stories. John had many wonderful Doctors who helped along the way; Dr. 
Amanda Valiant, Dr. David Gile, Dr. Richard Preston, Dr. Greg Nanney, 
Dr. Jon Pike, and Dr. Ryan Beard to name the most recent.

John was involved in the Heartland Community Church of Great Bend, 
past president of Great Bend Noon Lions Club, past president of KASBO 
(Kansas Association School Business Officials), and past president of 
USA (United School Administrators). He was inducted into Kansas Teachers
 Hall of Fame in Dodge City in 2003.

Visitaiton will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, 
October 1, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends 
from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. John’s Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 
a.m., Friday, October 2, 2020, at Heartland Community Church with 
Pastors Troy Miller and Greg Savage presiding. Interment will be in the 
Great Bend Cemetery North. 

Memorials are suggested to the Heartland 
Community Church or Barton County Food Bank, in care of Bryant Funeral

Janice Kay Hayes, 77, of Atwood, died Monday, September 28, 2020. She was born July 11, 1943, to Glenn and Florence Vernon.

Robyn Clifford passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at the Redbud 
Village nursing home in Plainville, Kansas, at the age of 76. She was 
born on October 4, 1943 to Robert and Vivian (Freeman) Keiser in 
Glendale, California.


Robyn spent her early years moving around the world due to her 
father’s affiliation with the United States Military. She battled many 
illnesses at a young age but never let that affect her work or the care 
she gave to others. Robyn found a home in Henderson, Nevada where she 
spent a few years working in a nursing home and met and fell in love 
with a co-worker, Donald Clifford. The couple were united in marriage on
 February 14, 1992 in Henderson at the nursing home they worked so the 
residents could attend. They later relocated to the Rooks County area 
where she and Donald spent the rest of their lives.


Robyn was a woman of faith with a huge heart that overflowed with 
love for family, friends, the elderly she cared for, and even the stray 
cats she took into her care. A beacon of light, her charismatic and 
bubbly personality radiated from her heart to everyone she met. She 
never knew a stranger and jumped at the opportunities to help anyone. 
She donated vehicle loads of clothing to the Pine Ridge Reservation; and
 it was by this daily example of living that she taught all of us what 
it truly means to love and care for one another, and live every day 
being grateful for the opportunity to humbly serve one another. 


Robyn is survived by her daughter, Leeann of Florida; stepdaughter, 
Naomi Clifford of Oklahoma; step-sons, Jamie Thompson of Nevada and Andy
 Clifford of Arizona; close friend, Kayla Desbien of Kansas; one 
grandchild; and  several step-grandchildren and 
step-great-grandchildren.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Vivian Keiser; husband, Donald Clifford; and sister Roberta Keiser.

Linda Lulubell Fry passed away on September 25, 2020 at the Solomon 
Valley Manor in Stockton, KS, at the age of 73. She was born on July 10,

Linda grew up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School in 
1965. After high school she moved to Portland, Oregon to work as a 
nannie while Harvey was in Vietnam. After Harvey’s 28 years of service 
in the Airforce, they moved back to Woodston. 


Linda loved to travel, and she loved cats, horses, and rodeos. 
Although she has now gone home to be with her Lord, the legacy of her 
caring and compassion will live on in our hearts and memories. 


Linda is survived by her sisters, Carol Kimball of Urich, MO and 
Lela Glatz and husband Gary of Brighton, WI; brother, Allen Beck and 
wife Mary of Hutchinson, KS; sister-in-law Dena Beck of Stockton, KS; 
and many nieces and nephews.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Erle and Leona; husband Harvey Fry; and brother Alvy Beck.


A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at 2:00
 PM with visitation 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home in 
Stockton. Private inurnment will be at the Ash Rock Cemetery, north 
Woodston.

Linda L. Fry

Cyril J. Schmeidler, age 100, died at Via Christi, Hays, KS, on Saturday, September 26, 2020. Cyril John Schmeidler was born at Catharine, KS, on October 7, 1919, the eldest son of John Schmeidler and Emma (Wolf) Schmeidler. He served his country for 3 ½ years during World War II and was a lifelong farmer in the Catharine area.

Cyril graduated from Hays High School in 1937 and St. Joseph’s College and Military Academy in 1939. He moved to Washington, DC shortly thereafter and married his childhood sweetheart, Mildred Karlin, on June 7, 1943 in Jacksonville, FL prior to departing for Europe for the war. He was a clerk typist in the Seventh Corps, U.S. Army, and was discharged in late 1945, having attained the rank of corporal.

After the war, he returned to Ellis County to take up farming. He and Mildred rejoiced in the births of their four sons, weathered the droughts of 1950s, and rebuilt their new home and the farmstead after they were destroyed by a tornado in 1959. He was active on the farm north of Catharine well into his mid-nineties, and said that he was happiest when he was on the tractor. Cyril also was active in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and in the Ellis County community throughout his life. He briefly taught at Severin School in the late 1940s. He served several terms on the St. Catherine’s Parish Council. He was a Catharine Township trustee for many years, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)-Hays and a member of the Hays American Legion. He was a charter member of the Farmers Credit Union, Hays, served on the board &amp; was board president. He served as president of the Ellis County Extension Council. He received conservation awards from the Ellis County Soil Conservation District. In the mid-1970s, he was a co-owner and the general manager of the Victoria Grain Company. He sold insurance and was an accomplished carpenter.

Although it may be said that Cyril’s favorite pastime was working (except Sundays), he also loved to play cards, especially pinochle and solo. He always seemed to know what cards others had in their hands or what card they were about to play. He loved to dance, and learned to square dance with his second wife.

Cyril Schmeidler was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred, who died in 1972; his second wife, Alice Unrein, whom he married on August 23, 1975 and who died in April 2019; his siblings and their spouses: Solana Moore (Paul); Fidelia Herbert (Charles), Sr. Solana Schmeidler, Celestine Schmeidler (Marcella), Harold Schmeidler (Norma), and Gilbert Schmeidler (Mary Ann), and two great-grandchildren.

He is survived by four sons: Neal (Lorrinda), Springfield, VA; Phil (Brenda), Hays, KS; Michael (Cheryl) Hays, KS; Lloyd (Brenda), Durham, NC; twelve grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Cyril John Schmeidler will be held on Wednesday, September 30th at 11 AM at St. Catherine’s Church in Catharine. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 AM at the church, with a Parish Rosary at 10:30.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors courtesy of the Hays VFW Honor Guard.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all visitors are expected to wear facial coverings throughout the services.

James Michael “Jim” Balthazor, 69, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, September 27, 2020, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Jim was born on September 06, 1951, in Concordia, Kansas, the son of Armand and Helen (Appleby) Balthazor.  He grew up in Concordia, Kansas, and graduated from Notre Dame High School in the class of 1969.  After high school, he received his teaching degree from Ft. Hays State University in 1977, majoring in vocal music, science and elementary education.  He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Lucinda Mae “Cindy” Spatz on August 18, 1974, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Beloit, Kansas.  From this union Jim and Cindy were blessed with two children, Kirk and Teryn. 

 Jim started his teaching career in La Crosse, Kansas, in 1977.  In 1978, he moved to Russell, Kansas and took a vocal music teaching position at USD #407.  Later in his teaching career, he taught Science and developed the Peggy Taylor Owls Project and Science Olympiad. He retired from USD #407 in 2012 and continued his career teaching science, Science Olympiad, and monarch music at Thomas Moore Prep in Hays, Kansas. He spent many years directing and helping with musicals at RHS and TMP.  He was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell where he cantored and played with the ministry group Revelations. 

 He enjoyed music, rock hunting, metal detecting and spending time at the lake boating with friends and family.  Most of all he enjoyed life, spending time with his family, and he especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. 

Surviving family includes his wife of 46 years Cindy of the home; daughter Teryn Yarmer (Neil) of Russell, Kansas; 3 brothers Fred Balthazor (Theresa Kueter), Greg Balthazor (Lisa) and Pat Balthazor (Jamie); 2 sisters Cindy Cleveland (Mike) and Christine Sevigny; 4 grandchildren Chase Alan Yarmer, Aiden Matthew Yarmer, Brynley Grace Yarmer and Koda James Yarmer; sister in-law Sheila K. Hein and nephew Shawn Hein (Jenny); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kirk Matthew Balthazor on August 05, 2000, brother in-law Don Hein and nephews Doug Hein and Benjamin Cleveland. A funeral mass to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday, October 02, 2020, at the St. Mary Queen of Angel Catholic Church in Russell.  Viewing will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Thursday, October 01, 2020, at the mortuary in Russell.  A vigil and rosary will be held at the church at 7 P.M. on Thursday evening, October 01, 2020.

Marlyn D. “Dean” Brown, 88, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Dean was born April 23, 1932 in Hays, Kansas.  He grew up in Hays and later in Waldo, Kansas.  He graduated from Waldo High School.

Dean served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.  He was a Company Radioman.  After his tour he transferred to the Army Reserves and returned to Russell.

Dean was united in marriage to Barbara Wagner on November 18, 1956 in Russell.  This union was blessed with two children; Greg and Marietta.  They made their home in Russell.

Dean worked for the City of Russell many years and retired as the Superintendant of the City Power Plant.  He retired in 2002.  Earlier in life he worked in the oil fields and for Shannon Appliances.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and was a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240.  He enjoyed fishing, watching sporting events, tinkering and fixing things for family and friends.  He always had a smile and never knew a stranger.

Dean’s surviving family include his wife of 63 years, Barbara of the home; son, Greg Brown (Michelle) of Fairview, Oklahoma; daughter, Marietta Watkins (Tony) of Cleo Springs, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Stephanie Schatz (Mike) and Trevor Watkins; and great grandchild, Max Dean Schatz.

Celebration of Dean’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 2, 2020 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.  The family has chosen cremation and no visitation will be held. Vernon J. Kisner, 91, Hays, died Sunday, September 27, 2020 at HaysMed.

He was born May 4, 1929 in Pfeifer the 
son of Adam and Cecilia (Jacobs) Kisner.&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1947, he graduated from 
Schoenchen High School then attended Kansas State University for a 
year.&nbsp; He earned both a Bachelor and Masters Degree in mathematics from 
Fort Hays State University and taught math in Schoenchen, at Jefferson 
West, and at Hays High School.&nbsp; On April 18, 1950 he was united in 
marriage to Virginia Dome in Pfeifer and they celebrated 70 years of 
marriage.&nbsp; He was a farmer, automotive repairman in LaCrosse, and a 
police officer for the City of Hays.&nbsp; His memberships included St. 
Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph Third Degree Knights of Columbus 
Council #1325.&nbsp; Vernon loved the world of mathematics, but especially 
loved teaching and helping his students learn.&nbsp; He enjoyed playing 
volleyball, raising eight wonderful children with his wife, watching his
 children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, and following K-State 
athletics.&nbsp; He loved life and farming, and always looked forward to 
harvest and driving the combine.

Survivors include his wife Virginia of 
Hays, four sons; Mark Kisner and wife Judy of Sugarland, TX, Terrence 
Kisner and wife Anne Marie of Bellevue, WA, Dale Kisner and wife Karen

of Hays, Sandra Skipton and husband Steve of Derby, and Anne Zimmerman

husband Mike of Albuquerque, NM, 22 grandchildren, 17 great 
grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his

from 9:00 am until service time on Thursday, at Holy Cross Shrine.&nbsp; A

Lawrence Alexander Munsch, 93, passed away with his family by his side on September 15, 2020, at Keefe Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne Wells, CO. He was born in Bazine, Kansas, on February 21, 1927, the son of Henry and Catherine (Depperschmidt) Munsch. Lawrence was born and raised on a farm. He moved to Colorado in 1954 to farm with his wife and children. Lawrence was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1959 and was active in the Catholic Church.&nbsp;

He is survived by Bonnie Bogenhagen (Gary), KayAnn Sexson (Richard), Dusty Tallman (Charlotte), Peggy Moberly (Rod), Cindy Hoffman (Dan), grand children and great grand children, as well as one brother, Robert Munsch, of Lawrence, Kansas, sister-in-laws, brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews and extended family.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Catherine and Henry Munsch, his wife Edna, two daughters, Connie and Linda, granddaughter, Sonia, and grandson, John Henry, six brothers; Joe, Edwin, Ralph, Harry, Jerry and LeRoy Munsch, and three sisters; Velma Boltz, Arlene Hanan and Wanita Reinert.

Lawrence was a farmer and rancher that truly loved what he did. He was a member of the ASC Board for many years. He served on the Chivington Grazing Association Board as well. He played accordion in a band with his brothers and dad in a community band "Four on the Floor and Fifth under the seat" for many years. In his younger years, he played softball and bowled. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed talking to family and friends. He also enjoyed playing pitch, pinochle, nickel poker or finding a good slot machine to hit a jackpot.&nbsp;

Norma “JoAnne” Elder, 90, Bison, Kansas, died Monday, September 28, 2020, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

JoAnne was born March 9, 1930, in La Crosse, Kansas, the daughter of 
Clyde Christopher and Elva Mae (Smith) Hall.&nbsp; She was a lifelong 
resident of Bison, Kansas.&nbsp; A 1947 graduate of Bison Rural High School, 
Bison, Kansas, she was a homemaker, and cosmetologist working for 20 
years from her shop in her home.&nbsp; JoAnne helped her husband, Leonard, 
with the farm work.&nbsp; Although she disliked it, she was very good at it.&nbsp;
 But JoAnne was a seamstress from the get go.&nbsp; She owned and operated 
Elder’s Drapery in Bison, Kansas, for 12 years prior to her retirement 
in 1995.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist 
Women, and Joy Club, all of Bison, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a lifetime member of
 the Order of the Eastern Star, Hays Chapter #228, Hays, ,Kansas, and a 
charter member of the Sunshine Unit Extension Club.

JoAnne enjoyed gardening, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On January 16, 1949, she married Leonard D. Elder at the United 
Methodist Church, Bison, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death October 13, 
2007.

Survivors include:&nbsp; two daughters, Kathy M. Holopirek, and her 
husband, Rick, Bison, Kansas, and Lori A. Collins, and her husband 
Charles, Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, and 15 great 
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, 
Dennis Elder; an infant daughter, Karen Marie Elder; and two sisters, 
Bonnie Schraeder, and LoRee Cooley.

Memorial service will be Saturday, October 3, 2020, at 10:30 A.M. at 
the United Methodist Church, Bison, Kansas, with Pastor Angie Vertz 
officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in Lone Star Cemetery, Bison, Kansas.

Wilma Hoover, 92, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society – Hays, Kansas.

She was born on August 3, 1928 at 
Woodston, KS the daughter of George &amp; Eula (McCombs) Guthrie.&nbsp; She 
married Bruce Hoover on May 27, 1949 in Phillipsburg, KS.

She was a longtime employee of J.C. Penney in Norton and Hays, KS for over 30 years.

Survivors include 2 sons, Greg Hoover and wife, Deirdre, of Hays and Randy Hoover and wife, Dora, of Great Bend.

Wilma is also survived by her sister, Karen Walters and husband, Pat, of Tulsa, OK.

2 grandchildren, Amy Turner and 
husband, Marshall of McPherson, Brian Hoover and wife Amy of Platte 
City, MO, and 7 great grandchildren, Emma, Ella and Brody Hoover, and

Wilma Hoover

Robert “Bob” Harlan Gilbert passed away on September 27, 2020, at the 
Redbud Village Nursing Home in Plainville, KS, at the age of 84. He was 
born on March 12, 1936 in Plainville to Harlan and Doris (Phillips) 
Gilbert. He married Joan “Jody” Maxine Waterman on February 15, 1958 in 
Plainville. They were blessed with 3 children: Brad, Melane, and 
Michele.


Bob attended school in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High
 School with the class of 1954. He then attended four years at Fort Hays
 State College, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.
 Bob worked for the State of Kansas as an Income Maintenance Supervisor,
 Area Supervisor, and Office Manager of Hill City SRS. He retired in 
1998 after working 30 plus years for the State of Kansas. 


Bob was the epitome of a faithful servant. His Catholic faith was 
paramount in his life and he served as a lector &amp; lay minister for 
St. Ann’s Church, Zurich until his health declined. He spent his working
 years helping those less fortunate finding resources to better their 
lives and their families’ lives. He was an active member of the Palco 
Lions club volunteering many hours doing community projects. He also 
served on the Palco school board for several years. In his younger years
 he played minor league baseball for a farm team for the Philadelphia 
Phillies (Van Johnson) out of Great Bend; but once he got older he 
settled for any televised sport – especially KU Basketball, Royals 
Baseball, and Kansas City Chiefs or being outside fishing or hunting.


Bob was a man of few words, quiet by nature, and had an extreme love
 for his wife and family - especially his grandkids. As his health began
 to fail, he still managed to attend many of his grandkids’ sporting 
events with the help of his never-failing wife Jody. 


It has been said, “kindness is like a seed that when cultivated will
 continue to grow”.  Bob was a man who loved his Lord, Jesus Christ, and
 passed that love on to his family so it would continue to grow and be 
nurtured in their lives. He tended to the hearts and souls of all who 
knew him and made a legacy that will continue to grow for eternity in 
the lives of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all 
who knew him.


He is survived by his children, Brad Gilbert and wife Diane of S. 
Hutchinson, KS, Melane Gilbert of Great Bend, KS, and Michele Hixon and 
husband Troy of Plainville; siblings, Harry (Mary) Gilbert of Houston, 
TX, Dennis (Cindy) Gilbert of Neodesha, KS, Anita (Doug) Wilson of 
Lyles, TN, and Chris Gilbert of Chanute, KS; three grandchildren, Taylor
 (Kyle) David of Wichita, KS, Nick (Jordan) Hixon of Wichita, and 
Samantha (Brodie) Pfannenstiel of Plainville, KS; and four 
great-grandchildren, Finn, Wesley, &amp; Duke Pfannenstiel, and Brenna

Robert Harlan Gilbert

Elnora Leone (Lynn) Jinks passed away on September 23, 2020 at 
Midlothian, TX.&nbsp; 

She was born on April 30, 1925 at Scott City, KS to 
Edward J. and Maggie (Miller) Schultz.&nbsp; The family moved to Pawnee 
County, Kansas when she was very young, and later moved into Larned.&nbsp; 
Her nickname in High School was “Dutch” and she was a member of the 
Dramatics Class, taking part in several plays.&nbsp; Elnora graduated from 
Larned High School in 1942 and then attended Business School in 
Hutchinson, KS &nbsp;

She married Jerry Jinks on June 7, 1958, and they lived in Larned the
 rest of their lives.&nbsp; They both worked many years at Larned State 
Hospital. Elnora was the Secretary for the Social Services Department.&nbsp; 
She took great pride in the fact that she could make the department run 
smoothly and make her boss look good.&nbsp; She retired at age 70 after 39 
years of service.&nbsp; Elnora was also well known for her Avon business

She enjoyed traveling with Jerry in their RV, and going to Lake 
Wilson for weekends. She loved fishing, camping, and being in their 
boat.&nbsp; Elnora also loved spending time at Port Lavaca, TX on the beach.&nbsp;
 She and Jerry would also spend a week in the RV at the Hutchinson Sate 
Fair every year.&nbsp; She loved decorating her home.

Elnora was preceded in death by her parents Edward J. &amp; Maggie 
Schultz, 2 brothers - Vernon and Estes, 3 sisters Ethel, Doris, and 
Gladys, and husband Jerry Jinks.&nbsp; She is survived by her children: Benny
 Chesebro of Waxahachie, TX, and Barry Chesebro of Topeka, KS; her 
beloved grandchildren Brian Brown of Richardson, TX, Suzanne Bruyere of 
Frisco, TX, Christy Chesebro, career Air Force, currently stationed at 
Clovis, NM, Dan W. Gill of Ruidoso, NM, Thomas Metzler, Agaunga, CA, and
 Curtis Metzler of Carrolton, TX.&nbsp; Elnora is also survived by five great
 grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2020 at 
Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Pastor Mark Slattery presiding.

Helen Louise Hoyt, age 91, died on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the Homestead Assisted Living in Garden City, Kansas.  She was born on April 28, 1929 in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Ralph Johnson and Dorothy (Morrow) Coen.

She worked as the administrator for the Finney County Health Nurse for over 30 years before retiring.  Louise was also a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Louise was an incredible cook, baker and loved her country music.  Louise was a super grandmother and certainly knew how to throw parties for family and friends.  Her big smile and infectious laughter will always be remembered for brightening up any room.  

On March 7, 1948, she married Donald “Ed” Edward Hoyt in Garden City, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on March 6, 2000.

Faye Ellen Anderson, age 87, died on September 25, 2020 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ben, husband Carol (Andy) N. Anderson, and earlier this year by her sons Nils and Jerry. She is survived locally by her daughter Kristin and grandson Zachary, sons Mark Anderson (wife Susan) of Bellevue, WA and Charles Anderson of Naples, FL, sister Lou Hoover (husband Rod) of Topeka, KS, and grandsons Matthew (San Francisco), Christopher, and Grant (Chicago). 

Faye Ellen was born on July 12, 1933 in Natoma, KS to Louis Beisner and Lila Hankins Beisner.  She met husband Andy there, where he was directing high school band and vocal music and coaching football. They married on May 20, 1953 and were together for 41 years.  In Natoma, she worked with her mother, the editor of the Natoma-Luray Independent newspaper. She later lived in Effingham and Russell, where she was activities secretary at the high school.  She moved to Garden City in 1970, where Andy taught vocal music at Garden City Community College and Faye Ellen worked, first in the Santa Fe Trail Council, BSA office and then as window clerk until her retirement with the United States Postal Service.  

 Faye Ellen was the ultimate Mother and beloved Grandmother - steady, calm, resilient, positive, patient, curious, smart, loving, and generous. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Finney County Senior Center, Order of the Eastern Star, church circles, and the Garden City Civic Choral Union.  Favorite family activities were playing cards and games and working puzzles together. She was a fierce bridge player, playing weekly with dear friends. She enjoyed riding bikes with Zachary and tending her garden. 

Faye Ellen remained the active, loving caregiver of her household into 2020, seeing her special son Nils safely into God’s hands.  She cared deeply for those facing challenges in life. Faye Ellen knew that, with the Covid-19 pandemic, the still postponed memorial service for Nils and then unexpectedly, heartbreakingly Jerry, too, would probably, in the end, include her as well. She can now rest in peace and join Nils, Jerry, Andy, and others in Heaven. 

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts are suggested in lieu of flowers to  Team Elanor, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 400 S Colorado Blvd Ste 840, Denver, CO  80246, in honor of her grand-niece Elanor, daughter of Clarissa Hoover of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She was born January 5, 1922, in

September 23, 1943, she was united in marriage to LaVier Staven in 
Waukesha, Wisconsin, and they celebrated 71 years of marriage before he 
preceded her in death on July 25, 2015

Trenton J. Brinkman passed away Sept. 23, 2020, at the Norton County Hospital in Norton at the age of 24.&nbsp; He was born Oct. 14, 1995, in Kearney, NE.

Survivors include his mother, Janna Constable of Phillipsburg; step-father, Thane Beckman of Concordia; brother, Damon Beckman of Concordia; sister, Daria Beckman of Phillipsburg; his grandparents, Ron Powers of Victoria; Melissa &amp; Dean Brinkman of Beloit, WI &amp; Glenn &amp; Paula Weinman of Phillipsburg &amp; his nephew McKennan.&nbsp;

Iona (Goetz) Selensky, age 75, of Quinter, KS, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care, Quinter. She was born July 10, 1945, to Michael and Catherine (Depperschmidt) Goetz at the family home in Park, KS.

Iona graduated from Park High School in 1963. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Ronald Selensky, on January 23, 1965, in Park. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage until Ron's passing in 2015. She was an extremely hard worker and could do everything. Wherever help was needed, she was there to "fill in the cracks".&nbsp; She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society and enjoyed serving funerals and church events. With many hours spent following Ron and the kid's activities, Iona never knew a stranger. In 1984, she suffered a brain tumor. After recovering, she still had it in her heart and mind that she could do anything, but her body limited her. That was a big adjustment for an active wife and mother. Iona loved having family gatherings and cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Iona was a respected and loved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

Survivors of Iona include her sons Curtis (Teresa) Selensky of Grainfield, KS, and Kelly (Jynette) Selensky of Park; daughters Lynn (Chris) Schrader of Benkelman, NE, and Julie (Tim) Hall of Dodge City, KS; grandchildren Gavin, Kendrik, and Samuel Selensky, Carter, and Breckyn Selensky, Kasha Davis, Kamie Crawford, Tallan Schrader, Chelsie and Nicole Hall, Blake, Carson, Kelsey and Cole Selensky; great-grandchild Skylar Davis; daughter-in-law Cassie (Selensky) Shirley; brother Vern Goetz of Dodge City; and sisters Louise Feldt of Dodge City and Twila Logsdon of Hays, KS.

Iona was preceded in death by both parents; her husband; son Greg Selensky; and infant brother Delmar Goetz.
